I mostly agree but to those with intense guilt about such things I will say that you do have to remember that there are some decor items that it's not wasteful to buy every year.
Get yourself a new (real) wreath from the little old lady that makes them out of pine branches, pinecones and thread. You can keep the ribbon for next year, and the rest is compostable.
Where I am there's a local pewter company that makes a new ornament for each year. Yes, you can get yourself the new 2024 ornament. There are seniors around here that have gotten the yearly ornament every year since the company opened in 1974, and who gift them to family members. A single durable ornament that you put up along with the ornaments from 1974 all the way to this year is not waste.
If it will last, or is biodegradable and meant to be composted at the end of the season, that's very different from going out and getting hundreds of dollars of the latest in poorly manufactured plastic decorations that will break before next year.
seeing someone comment landfillcore under a holiday decor haul a few years back permanently changed my consumption habits. what an evocative word. I think about her all the time
#wolfievim is very right#but it's always important to remember to look at what you're doing based on long-term impact#you don't need to overhaul your Christmas ornaments every year#or add a new light-up monstrosity to your front lawn#but a biodegradable wreath or a small pewter ornament is very different#(and this is as someone who doesn't decorate for Christmas)#also if you want new decorations just go to yard sales and thrift stores in july#and do a little drive on garbage days after Christmas#that's where a lot of this stuff ends up#then you can use it next year

astro hypothesis: what's your ideal laundry room like?
take a look at your 4h and the persona chart of its ruler (ex: my 4h is in gemini, i will be looking at my mercury persona chart NOT my ic persona (thats more family and childhood dynamics in my opinion)). today i want to focus on my personal next house project - the laundry room... for that take a look at the 6h and/or neptune.
why?
6h typically is associated with routines, maintenance, and even hygiene. people often have a laundry routine or it adapted into their schedule. it is a maintenance task of life. and laundry relates to overall hygiene of not just yourself but other rooms in the house - towels, napkins, mats, sheets, curtains, etc.
neptune rules over liquids like water/detergents, and can be connected to the process of dissolving/clearing dirt, which is essentially what washing clothes is.

6h gemini (3°, 15°, 27°), neptune at 3°/15°/27°, 6h mercury, 6h ruler aspecting mercury, and/or neptune aspecting mercury
the laundry room would be highly functional and efficient. the process of doing laundry in this space is streamlined - it's likely a smaller space (simple just the machine(s) and additives). think clear labels, sorting bins, etc. even in a small space, everything would have its place and be designed/organized for easy access. mercury loves technology - expect high-efficiency washers/dryers, smart home integrations, and/or even a small speaker or tablet mounted in the vicinity for entertainment (it makes me think of bathrooms with TVs). i suggest light, fresh colors for these people like whites, grays, and/or pastels, possibly geometrics like a tile wall feature.
6h leo (5°, 17°, 29°), neptune at 5°/17°/29°, 6h sun, 6h ruler aspecting sun, and/or neptune aspecting sun
this laundry space would be bright and warm - the sun represents vitality so this space wouldn’t be hidden away. it would be in large room, not a closet or bathroom. it would be well-lit too - there is definitely natural light so not necessarily located in a subterranean basement or the garage. perhaps there is a large windows for natural light, maybe a sliding door that leads to a clothes line, warm overhead lighting or a skylight, or even a statement light fixture. it isn’t a cluttered, forgotten room - cleanliness and presentation are everything. laundry would be done on a set schedule in this space, as the sun has a strong sense of rhythm.
6h libra (7°, 19°), neptune at 7°/19°, 6h venus, 6h ruler aspecting venus, and/or neptune aspecting venus
libra laundry rooms would be a clean, aesthetically pleasing space. libra brings a touch of elegance and balance, it wouldn’t be purely utilitarian - it would be stylish yet order. similar to other air influences everything has its place, neatly labeled bins, light, neutral, or pastel colors, etc. possibly there are decorative touches like framed art, a small plant, and/or soft lighting. i believe the scent of detergent or a diffuser with a calming oil would be present in the space.
6h pisces (12°, 24°), neptune at 12°/24°, 6h neptune, and/or 6h ruler aspecting neptune
the mundane laundry room feels more effortless and less utilitarian with this influence present. think flowy elements like sheer curtains, soft edges, and a light color scheme (whites, blues, lavenders, seafoam greens). maybe some ocean-themed decor, or even a washing machine with an emphasized rounded design or a front loading washing machine with the wave look on the door (you know what i mean?). maybe essential oil diffusers, calming lavender or chamomile scented detergents, etc. this might be more intuitive setup, i get woven basket vibes for one thing it's not plastic/glass organizer coded. in fact it's a holistic set up - natural, biodegradable detergents / detergent sheets, crystals, wool dryer balls, etc.
9h neptune
the space is something more dreamy and tranquil, rather than purely functional - it has an almost meditative atmosphere for this task. think soft lighting, perhaps with fairy lights or calming, dim lamps, etc. the room might have an aromatherapy diffuser with calming scents like lavender or sandalwood. maybe even with subtle ocean or sky motifs (waves, clouds - in that italian bistro way if you know what i mean i can't remember the name for that textured painting style). the room definitely has shades of blue, lavender, and/or soft warm whites. the task that is laundry might take on a ritualistic quality. maybe it's meditative where you focus on the tactile experience of the water?

"Hi hun! I'm Anna-Lee Kamski, the owner and head baker here at Love Blooms Bakery, and today I'm giving you a small tour! Come on in!"
❀˖ ° 𝑂𝑢𝑡𝑠𝑖𝑑𝑒

"Welcome to Love Blooms Bakery! We first opened here in Detroit about 10 years ago and have been here ever since. There is some seating outside where you can relax and enjoy your treats! When it's not busy you'll get a clear look inside! You'll often see my daughter, Chloe, decorating our iced cookies or us loading the pastry case early in the mornings!"
❀˖ ° 𝐹𝑟𝑜𝑡 𝑜𝑓 𝐻𝑜𝑢𝑠𝑒

"I find it rather cozy up here! My goal was to combine the vibe of my grandmas house and the feel of a small town bakery. She lived in a small town before she moved to Chicago to be closer to us and there was a bakery she'd always take us to when we'd visit her there. I fell in love with the atmosphere and when opening my own shop I knew that I wanted to emulate the same feeling for my guests."
❀˖ ° 𝐾𝑖𝑡𝑐ℎ𝑒𝑛

————————————————————
"This is my safe space! Very open and well lit, everyone has plenty of space at their own station, and we always have all that we need. It can get very hot back here though as we are constantly baking throughout the day. Fans and a quick step into the walk-in cooler helps a ton!"
❀˖ ° 𝑃𝑎𝑐𝑘𝑎𝑔𝑖𝑛𝑔

"Everything is eco-friendly, biodegradable, and plastic free! Our boxes are very special as they keep things fresh as if they've just been baked for about 2 weeks and are spill/drop safe. You could drop it down stairs and your baked treats will be just fine! Plus, it's all cute and pink! Although, I may be biased..."

Notes from a witch who is a part-time caretaker of a rural graveyard:
Disclaimer: These are both mundane and magical personal observations and recommendations acquired from living directly beside, working part-time for, and working with the spirits of a rural graveyard.

If the grass is being cut regularly, the graveyard/cemetery is being looked after. Even if headstones are neglected and the decorations rarely change at the graves, someone is coming out regularly to check things out.
Even if you know for a fact a graveyard/cemetery is abandoned, it does not mean it's been entirely forgotten. You're probably not the first person to stumble upon it and probably won't be the last. Don't ruin it for others by desecrating graves or damaging the natural environment.
Be mindful of rules and be respectful of the cultural practices of the graveyard/cemetery. Some graveyards/cemeteries have regulations as to what can be left at a grave; either in general or during certain seasons, or they may have set visiting hours; often in an attempt to deter nocturnal mischief makers.
If you are ever questioned as to why you are there, be calm and courteous. You don't have to divulge your spiritual practice, but simply explaining that you're visiting out of an interest in history can more often than not put suspicious minds at ease. However, if you are explicitly asked to leave, by the living or the dead, do so. There is no sense in arguing and it may be for a good reason.
This may be personal preference or may depend on whether or not you have built up a connection with the graveyard/cemetery (spirit/guardian/etc), but when in doubt: come with protection.
Avoid leaning, standing or pushing on headstones. It is not uncommon for stones to topple, especially those with preexisting damage, those made out of softer material like limestone, or those simply not designed to take much force.
Sometimes stepping on a grave is inevitable. Politely apologize and carry on.
You can show respect and still laugh, joke, tell stories, etc. There's no rule saying you must keep the mood sombre.
If you will be doing any type of magical workings, ask permission and respect the answer. This goes especially for any workings done at a specific grave.
When finished, give your thanks and take all non-biodegradable tools/spell ingredients/offerings with you. You could even pick up trash as you leave, but be mindful of what may be a misplaced decoration or offering.
If you want to clean/repair headstones or cleanup the general area of the graveyard, do your research and go through the proper legal channels. Your intent may be good; but if you don't know what cleaners/tools to use or mistake a misplaced decoration as trash, you could unintentionally do more harm than good.
If you require grave dirt or other forageable matter, tread lightly. Only take what you need and opt to take from the perimeter over a specific grave*.
When you are finished with your workings and are ready to head home, say goodbye and leave the spirits at the gate. You can cleanse yourself and your tools once you've crossed the threshold or as soon as you've gotten home.
*Removing dirt from a grave is often viewed as immoral and depending on your location may even be illegal (desecration of a grave). <- I'm not mentioning this last bit as a scare tactic, just as a reminder that you never know how your actions will be interpreted by outside eyes.
As an alternative to grave dirt, consider this: The earth has been around for 4.5 billion years. In that time, many a thing has lived and died across its surface. Dirt is made of decaying and decomposed matter. So technically speaking, the entire planet is a series of unmarked lost graves, making all dirt grave dirt.

what are some popular camp traditions?
Wonderful question!
Here at Mystic Meadows we have quite a bit of traditions to make your experience fun and unforgettable!
Among these traditions we have:
1. The Moonlit Walk
On nights with a full moon, campers and counselors go on a quiet, guided walk through the forest. They bring lanterns or flashlights, but once they reach a certain clearing, everyone sits and watches the moon together in silence. It's a peaceful moment where everyone connects with nature, and counselors often tell old legends to keep everyone entertained!
2. Nature Journals
Every camper gets a blank journal on the first day, and is encouraged to fill it with drawings, thoughts, leaves, or sketches of plants and animals they see, anything, really! At the end of camp, the counselors host a "sharing circle," where campers can read or show parts of their journal if they wish. It’s a way for campers to connect and reflect on the memories they've made at Mystic Meadows!
3. The Midnight Bonfire
Once per season, there’s a special bonfire held right at midnight for only the oldest campers. The bonfire is a rite of passage for campers as they grow older, making it something younger campers look forward to.
4. The "Hidden Object" Hunt
Throughout the summer, counselors hide small objects around camp—things like tiny, painted stones or little nature-themed tokens. Campers are encouraged to look for them during free time, and if they find one, they can keep it as a lucky charm. Some of the objects might even have little inscriptions with advice or words of encouragement.
5. Jackalope Week
Once a summer, Mystic Meadows celebrates the legendary "Jackalope Week," a spirited event where campers are split into two teams: Antlers and Ears. Each camper is given either a pair of antlers or bunny ears to wear for the entire week, and they're encouraged to decorate them with natural materials found around camp—like flowers, leaves, feathers, or twigs—to show off their creativity and team spirit.
Throughout the week, the two teams face off in friendly competitions, like nature scavenger hunts, obstacle courses, and even a storytelling contest where they create their own versions of the jackalope legend.
At the end of the week, there's a big "Jackalope Feast" with both teams celebrating together, and they all gather around the fire to reflect on their favorite moments. It’s a way for campers to bond across cabins, and everyone leaves with their decorated antlers or ears as a keepsake from the week.
6. The Wish-Launching Ceremony
On the last night of camp, everyone gathers by the lake. Each camper writes a wish or goal for the future on a biodegradable piece of paper, attaches it to a small leaf boat or flower, and releases it onto the water.

When I was an active docent and volunteer in the desert, and hiked all over the place, whenever I spotted the remains of a mylar balloon, I went for it, shoved it in my backpack and brought it back to properly dispose of it. Those things are vicious killers of wildlife.
Excerpt from this story from the New York Times:
Balloons released in the sky don’t go to heaven. They often end up in oceans and waterways, where they’re 32 times more likely to kill seabirds than other types of plastic debris. Despite this, humans like to release them en masse, be it to celebrate a loved one’s life or a wedding, or to reveal the gender of a baby.
The practice is on the verge of becoming illegal in Florida, where the legislature has joined a growing number of states to ban the intentional release of balloons outdoors. The Florida ban is expected to be signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis and would take effect July 1.
Florida is at the forefront of a dizzying and contentious array of statewide bans, outlawing lab grown meat, certain books from school libraries and classrooms, and most abortions after six weeks. But the balloon ban is rare for garnering widespread bipartisan support. It was championed by environmentalists and sponsored by two Republican lawmakers from the Tampa Bay area, Linda Chaney, a state representative and Nick DiCeglie, a state senator.
“Balloons contribute to the increase in microplastic pollution which is harmful to every living thing including humans, polluting our air and drinking water,” Ms. Chaney wrote in an email.
“My hope is that this bill changes the culture, making people more aware of litter in general, including balloons,” she said.
Ms. Chaney said she first heard about the perils of balloon debris in 2020. Aquatic animals often mistake balloons for jellyfish and feel full after eating them, essentially starving from the inside out. Ribbons affixed to balloons entangle turtles and manatees. Balloons also pose a threat to land animals. In her research, Ms. Chaney learned about a pregnant cow that died after ingesting a balloon while grazing. The unborn calf died too.
The bill closes a loophole in an existing Florida law that allowed for the outdoor release of up to nine balloons per person in any 24-hour period, a provision that critics say didn’t achieve the goal of reducing marine trash.
The new legislation makes it clear that balloons can pose an environmental hazard, supporters say. It equates intentionally releasing a balloon filled with a gas lighter than air with littering, a noncriminal offense that carries a fine of $150. The ban also applies to outdoor releases of any balloons described by manufacturers as biodegradable.
The ban does not restrict the sale of balloons by party suppliers or manufacturers; they could still be used indoors or as decorations outdoors if properly secured.

We're here, we're queer, and we cannot be legislated out of existence 🏳🌈✨
The Luminis Candle Co 2023 Pride Collection is being released on June 1 at 12:00 pm (Pacific time), and you can find it all on www.luminiscandleco.com!!!! This year's Pride candle lineup includes 8 scents, 7 of which are brand new!
Scent information and additional details under the cut!

Nonbinary: This is the only one that's the same as last year: a lovely aromatic blend featuring gentle English lavender top notes, a heart of sweet Meyer lemon, and a base of vanilla and tonka bean.

Pansexual: A playful blend with aldehydic top notes of bergamot, sweet orange, and apple, unfolding into heart notes of rich honey nectar and toffee. White musk forms a gentle base.

Polyamorous: Fresh and clean with citrus and mint top notes. A heart of lavender, green accord, and sandalwood blends into a soothing base of cedarwood, amber, and musk.

Lesbian: An effervescent, feminine blend that opens with sweet apple, raspberry, and sparkling champagne. Lily, jasmine, and peach heart notes follow, supported by coconut and sugar base notes.

Asexual: Herbal and aromatic. Top notes of lemon and cyclamen give way to a heart of sage, lavender, rosemary, and thyme. Base notes of eucalyptus leaf and green musk tie the blend together.

LGBTQ+/Rainbow: Oceanic but not overwhelming, this scent begins with marine and green accords, followed by herbaceous notes, dry woods, and a strong note of sea salt. Leather, cedarwood, and smooth black pepper form a lingering base.

Transgender: A sweet, blush blend. Raspberry and mandarin top notes blend seamlessly into a heart of rose, lychee, and red currant, which in turn lead to a captivating base of oud, benzoin, and sheer musk.

Bisexual: Sweet with a little spice, this striking blend starts with ozone and chili pepper, mellowed out by a heart of mandarin, guava, and orange. Coconut and peppercorn round out the scent.
All candles are decorated with eco-friendly glitter made from sustainably and ethically sourced plant material that biodegrades in a wastewater environment. Testing was conducted to ensure that eco-glitter won't cause a severe fire hazard the way dried botanicals do, and while my own testing showed that they don't cause fireballs or anything, if your glitter gets too close to the wick, I recommend gently brushing it away before lighting, just to be safe!
Each candle costs $35 and the wax weight of each is approximately 6 ounces!
