Good Morning and Wonderful Wednesday! I started my day early and got my 15K steps in. My #junejewel Tip #21 is one I borrowed from my friend Monica: "Fitness is not about being better than someone else...It's about being better than you used to be." So many times I hear my friends say they cannot keep up with me. Well, I always tell them that they have to run their OWN race! If I tried to keep up with some of my peers at the beginning, I would have given up a long time ago. Better Person Daily

As I was driving home from lunch with a friend today, a song came on that made the tears stream down my face. Every word of the lyrics hit home like they never have before.

It reminded me of all the previous shame and guilt I’ve battled over years. It also shined a light on the growth and changes I’ve worked really hard to make.

In short, it made me proud of my program, of my recovery, and of myself... flaws, dirt, and dances with the devil.

It’s Better Than I Used to Be by Tim McGraw (emphasis mine)

So much of this doesn’t just speak to me... it sings to me. Now when I look in the mirror, I don’t see someone unworthy, unwanted, not a priority, fat, ugly, or damaged.I see a survivor. I see a fighter. I see a kind, loving soul. I see beauty and grace. I see triumph. I see life lessons learned. I see forgiveness.I see me.. and I am definitely better than I used to be.
