CLOSER TO THE ENEMY, NOW LOVERS | back
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
starring: soobin x male reader
summary: Mn and Soobin have been childhood enemies. They competed against each other in every thing but does something also develop within Soobin from all these years ?
fluff
Tumblr media
“Students I will be passing out all the test papers to you. Please check your own paper and answers. I have corrected them properly so don’t come begging to me or for arguing with me for marks. Count all marks and only if there’s a totaling error then tell me. Am I clear ?”, the professor instructed the students of the class as she was passing or the corrected mid semester papers to everyone.
“Also put your hands together as Mn Ln has achieved first place with O grade! This is his third time in a row! Everyone has a lot to learn from him”, the professor congratulated the bright student who was smiling like an idiot. Everyone clapped for the student who thanked everyone as he went to collect his paper from the teacher. “Well done Mn! Keep up the good work !”, Professor Kim patted Mn’s back. Mn muttered a ‘thank you’ and went to his seat.
“Mnnie !!! What’s your secret to studying ? How do you keep getting the same grade every time!”, Yeonjun, Mn’s best friend, whined playfully. Mn chuckled at his friends antics. He looked into Yeonjun’s paper and smacked his head. “You idiot! You’re yourself have gotten an A+ and yet you’re still crying!”, Mn said to Yeonjun who held his head in pain.
“Ouch! Why did you do that?! Also O grade is better than A+”, Yeonjun complained. Mn let out a sarcastic chuckle at the taunt. “Jun, these grades don’t matter after few years”, Mn snarked at his best friend. Yeonjun laughed at the harsh reality. “True true !”.
The two were so busy in their conversation that they didn’t realise a pair of two eyes glaring at the topper student. Soobin was livid! His mind was fuming as he was hearing the two’s conversation. ‘I wanted to get the best grade ! This fucking Mn’, was all that was going through Soobin’s mind. He was holding his paper so tightly that it was almost going to rip apart.
Beomgyu, his bench partner, took notice of this. “Soobin you’re going to tear the paper like this!”, Beomgyu called out Soobin. Soobin realised what he was doing and immediately came back to his senses. He thanked Beomgyu before going back to his paper.
“You look angry ? Is everything alright ?”, Beomgyu asked noticing the red cheeks and red ears of Soobin. Soobin let out a nervous chuckle. “Nothing nothing! I’m fine”. Beomgyu did not buy his answer. He traced back Soobin’s vision and it landed on Mn. “Ahh! You’re jealous that Mn got the best grade and you didn’t!”, Beomgyu laughed at Soobin. Soobin realised he had been caught.
“Yeah.. I mean it’s kinda dumb. But I deserved an O. Mn got it just because he’s the teacher’s pet”, Soobin out aloud. He smirked as he made sure that Mn heard the last statement.
Mn clearly heard what his competitor said. He shook his head and the comment. Yeonjun turned back and faced Soobin. “What’s your problem giant ? Jealous ?”,Yeonjun laughed at Soobin.
Mn too let out a chuckle at Yeonjun’s statement but he didn’t want to further fight with Soobin. “Junnie don’t!”, Mn said as he insisted Yeonjun. Soobin laughed at Mn, “You can’t fight back that’s why your servant did it for you”.
Now Mn was really fuming. No one is going to call his best friend his servant. Mn got up and walked towards Soobin. He looked at Soobin with a glare that the taller was used to. Mn harshly pulled Soobin by his collar.
“Don’t you ever dare to call my best friend a servant. If you do, I’ll make sure that you’re out of this school wiping the school floors with your disgusting shirt and your blonde hair would be the perfect choice for a mop. Wouldn’t it Choi Soobin ?”, Mn whispered in a sultry tone.
The whole class went quiet and this dangerous act of Mn. Soobin gulped. In years of fighting with Mn, he had never seen him so mad. He however felt something else burn up inside. As much as he found this scary, he found Mn so hot at that moment.
The way he pulled Soobin by his collar and whispered in that voice, Soobin couldn’t help but be turned on from it. Mn chuckled a villainous laugh as he went back to his seat. He turned once again and looked at Soobin who was fanning himself. He shot the taller a wink that made Soobin lose his shit.
Soobin was waking the corridors of his college as he was waiting to go meet his friends. The corridor was crowded as it was break time and everyone was hustling and bustling around. Soobin mindlessly walked towards the park. He however couldn’t help it remember the little incident he had with Mn.
He had known Mn from his childhood. The two however didn’t get along quite well. There had always been tension between two. Their parents never bothered about. They were good friends but their kids weren’t.
Soobin and Mn used to always fight whenever they might. From fighting as five year old to arguing 18 year olds. The two have had a history of just fighting and arguing. The two teased each other and argued unnecessarily but it wasn’t friendly that they would make up later. They would fight about some other stuff later. That’s how rocky their relationship was.
But lately something has changed within Soobin. For the past two months, the way Soobin used to look at Mn had changed. His whole way of thinking and perspective of Mn had been altered.
Everytime he heard Mn’s voice, he used to feel butterflies in his stomach. Everytime he made eye contact with Mn, he used to feel butterflies in his stomach. Everytime he came closer to Mn, he used to feel butterflies in his stomach. Soobin had realised that he was slowly but surely and steadily falling in love with Mn.
The little incident of the day just ignited his feelings once again for the shorter male. The way he looked at Soobin as he delivered that dangerous dialogue and with that very sultry voice, made Soobin feel things inside. Just the very thought of it made Soobin blush.
He checked his phone to see the time but once he saw his Lock Screen, he felt his ears go red and his cheeks ho red. It was a picture of Mn that he had secretly taken but he didn’t want anyone to see it so he had use stupid effects on it to distort it but the fact it was Mn made him smile.
He stared at the picture and remembered all the memories of Mn. Those stupid memories of them fighting but cherishing those moments of Mn smiling again were truly treasured by Soobin.
Soobin was waking to so long while looking at his phone that he didn’t realise where he had ended up. He looked around and realise that he had accidentally gone upstairs rather going downstairs and had stumbled upon the art & music department.
Soobin scratched his head in confusion as he was clueless. He had never ever really strolled into the art and music department. He didn’t know anyone and he was not from that department so there was never a chance for him to come to that part.
Soobin looked around once before waking back to the stairs. However something stopped him in his tracks. He started hearing someone sing a beautiful song and play the piano. He stopped to hear the beautiful music.
Soobin loved singing but never actually wanted to pursue singing. “Who could be singing right now ?”, Soobin asked himself as the music got louder. He turned his heels and started walking towards the source of the noise. He started recognising the voice as he got closer to the room. He stepped in front of the room that read ‘Piano room’. The door was closed but there was a glass window on the door to peak in.
Once Soobin peaked in, he was shocked. There’s sat Mn as he was singing his heart out while playing the piano. Soobin couldn’t help but stare with soft eyes and love. The way Mn was singing with such grace and softness while naturally playing the piano like a professional made Soobin awestruck.
He knew Mn was smart and sporty but he was even talented in music. “What can’t he do ?”, Soobin whispered softly. Soobin felt his heartbeat beat faster. Something about Mn playing the piano and singing, made Soobin fall in love more with Mn.
Soobin peaked away as he started swaying to the song that Mn was singing. He so badly wanted to go in and hug Mn, but he knew that would never happen.
The two were enemies, that’s it. And enemies don’t fall in love, atleast both don’t. Soobin silently let out a tear as he stood outside the door and leaned to the pillar that watched over the open field. ‘Will I ever be with him ?’. Soobin was so deep in thought that he didn’t realise a body walking up behind him.
“Soobin ? Soobin ? Soobin ?”, Mn patted Soobin’s shoulder and suddenly the last pat brought the taller man back to reality. Soobin jumped a bit as he realised it was Mn. “Wtf! You almost scared me Mn?”, Soobin said clutching his heart. Mn laughed at Soobin scared state.
“Did I scare you ? Then I must have achieved my goal!”, Mn snarled at Soobin who just gave him an annoyed look. Mn however noticed Soobin’s teary eyes. “Were you crying ?”, Mn asked to Soobin. Soobin completely forgot to wipe his tears. Mn had never seen Soobin cry and to see him cry was eye opening for Mn.
Soobin looked away avoiding eye contact with Mn. Mn put both his hands on Soobin’s shoulders and pulled him to look at Mn. “Soobin, tell me, were you crying ?”, Mn asked a bit more strongly. Soobin was confused with Mn’s actions. “Why do you care ? You don’t like me right ?”, Soobin sarcastically chuckled and wiped his tears. Mn forward hearing Soobin’s reply.
“I don’t hate you Soobin. I would never hate you. Actually…..I feel the opposite”, Mn shyly replied as he looked away with pink blush. Soobin widened his eyes as heard and processed what Mn said. “You…like me too..?”, Soobin asked. Mn smiled as he heard the ‘too’. Mn had figured out Soobin’s feelings a long time ago.
But he could never find the perfect moment to confess. Mn nodded his head making his feelings clear to the other. The two stood there staring at each other. “I would have never thought that you would like me too. I thought you didn’t”, Soobin said as he slowly hugged Mn.
Mn smiled feeling Soobin’s warmth. Instead of replying to Soobin’s question, he just placed a sweet kiss to Soobin’s lips. Soobin was taken aback but gave in and smiled at the kiss. “I was waiting for you to confess. But you sure took your time Choi”, Mn replied making Soobin laugh.
“Will you be my boyfriend Mn Ln ?”, Soobin asked as he placed gentle kisses to Mn’s hands and face. Mn chuckled and just hugged Soobin.
“I was always yours Soobin”

Hello🤗 I love your writings❤️ can I request a fluffy smut about Lan Wangji x female reader where they had a fight over Lan Xichen(as Lan Wangji was jealous & possessive of her). After the fight, angrily, reader went the forest without informing anyone and Lan Wangji gets deeply concerned for her. He searches for her everywhere and in the forest, reader gets into some trouble but Lan Zhan saves her in time. In anger, reader said some hurtful words something like, "why are you here? I'm nothing to you, you shouldn't save me etc" and he becomes so angry on the fact that she doesn't understand his feelings for her and how much he loves her and protective of her, so he takes her to a nearby cave and makes love to her and also confess his feelings for her. This makes reader so happy and they continue their love making session throughout the night forgetting that everyone is waiting for them back in Cloud Recesses. In the morning, when they come back from the forest, everyone teases them but their reactions are quite different. Reader gets shy and embarrassed while Lan Wangji is happy and relaxed. Also, the reader is tiny heightwise(only 160cms) so their height difference is remarkable and kinda cute. Lan Wangji's body covers the reader's body entirely whenever he gets on top on her😍 Thank you in advance❤️
A/n: Thank you anon for the request, I enjoyed writing it! Its 🔞 so MDI ⚠️⚠️🔞‼️
Lan Wangji x Reader: Mine
Tumblr media
Summary: Lan Wangji is a jealous and possessive man, wbk. But he has no way to express that. (This occurs in a different au and they are all adults, around 17).
_____________________________________
"Thank you for your assistance in the class Ln Guniya, everyone speaks so highly of your musical skills, but I got to see it for myself and I can say it's really inspiring. You don't miss a note and play all the sharp one exactly the way they are supposed to be." Zewu Jun and you were walking through the corridors of Cloud Recess, after you helped him take a musical lesson for the instrument using cultivation students. He was now walking you to your quarter. "Zewu Jun is just very kind," you said, smiling.
What you didn't notice was Lan Wangji walking by another parallel corridor, who was headed towards you two and heard two juniors discussing "Zewu Jun and Ln Guniya look so good together" one said. "Look at the way they smile at each other, what a cute pair". Wangji gritted his teeth as his palm tightened around Bichen.
"Zewu Jun, Shifu is calling you urgently," Wangji said. "Well, I was walking Ln Guniya back to her chambers-" Zewu Jun tried to speak, but was interrupted by Wangji "I'll do it" he said. A look at Wangji made you blush, you couldn't help but ogle as he spoke, his perfectly well carved face, his broad shoulders, his hair tied perfectly with his forehead ribbon. You were so lost you didn't notice when they were done talking and only realised when he had already walked away.
"Let's go" Wangji said calmly and walked away, in long strides, it was only when he noticed your struggle to keep up that he slowed down. "Wangji Xiong, did you get you read that book I gave you the last time I came?" You asked as you matched pace. "Mn" he said, "I heard you enjoy reading poems, so I got that one for you" you said smiling to be able to spend time with him. But, he didn't reply, you found it strange and stopped. Generally, Lan Zhan tries his best to always converse with you by saying a word or two here and there, especially when you two speak about books. Suddenly a thought hits you. "Wangji Xiong?" You called and followed behind him again but he didn't stop, "Oi, Wangji"you called again and he didn't stop. "Lan Zhan!" You finally called him and he stopped. You mentally thanked the heavens that there was nobody around. He looked straight at you and you asked "Are you angry with me?". "Mn" he said, turning to restart walking, now it's your turn to get angry so you do the best thought that comes to your mind, you use your brother's binding talisman and catch his left wrist, stopping him in his tracks. "Lan Wangji, you can't just say Mn and walk away. That's not how things work, why are you even angry? I arrived yesterday and was in a class with Zewu Jun the whole morning" you said. "Reason" he simply said, "What? Because I was with Zenu Jun?" You repeated and he looked away and said "Mn" he responded. "You're really testing my patience here. Wangji, why would you be angry because I was with Zewu Jun, he is your brother" he said. "Can't stay close to Zewu Jun" he said, and it seriously frustrated you. Why would he say that? He has never reacted to your romantical advances. He always retracted his hand if you placed yours even a little close to his, he has never invited you to meals or even tea, he never even sits beside you during meals, he has made it clear that he isn't romantically interested in you so why? It's not like you were hitting on Zewu Jun. "You really frustrate me Lan Wangji" you said and walked away.
"How can he be so insensitive like this?'' You spoke to yourself as you paraded inside the room. "Uh" you said, finally being done and feeling suffocated and left your room, walking start towards the forest shortcut you found the last time you came that led to a lake just outside the periphery of Cloud Recess, it wasn't that far, but you could easily return before curfew. You made the walk for it, you reached the lake and took off your shoes and dipped your feet in the water, you lied back down to watch the pretty sky. The cold water was relaxing after the whole day.
What you underestimated was your fatigue and before you realised you dozed off to sleep and how quick warm afternoons in Gusu can change to cold evenings.
_____________________________________
Inside Cloud Recess
"Zewu Jun! Zewu Jun! Ln Guniya is not in her room, when I went to call her for dinner, her pipa was left in her room. We searched around the premises, she wasn't here".. as soon as Zewu Jun and Wangji heard, they stood up. "Never late" Wangji informed Zewu Jun "something must have happened" Zewu Jun said and summoned some disciples to immediately go look for you.
"Brother, I'll go" Wangji said and went off, he quickly asked your attendant to bring your Pipa. He got out a tracking talisman and used it in the Pipa.
_____________________________________
When you opened your eyes, you sat straight up, you legs were numb from the water that was now freezing cold. "Gods!" You exclaimed, as you had to physically pull your legs out. You tried to get up but could not, your legs needed time. Suddenly you heard some weird sounds from a close by bush. When you looked you noticed motion, that looked like 3 walking corpses. You were done for, you can't run because you have hills on two sides and the now closed protective walls of Cloud Recess and the only exit was were they are arriving from. You looked around and realised you didn't even bring you pipa when you left your chamber.
Is this how you'll die? You won't even be able to see Wangji one last time before you pass! Would it hurt? Will you vecome one of them? You hoped Wangji killed you before you hurt someone else or-
Your chain of thoughts was interrupted by a sharp sound. A sound you've heard so many times when you joined Wangji and your brother on Night Hunts. A wisp of white came flying and stood between you and the walking corpses. One more strike of the guqin and they were down dead (well, more dead than they previously were)
"Are you okay?" Wangji looked at you on the ground and pulled you up. You felt glad to see him for a moment, only to remember what he'd down back then. You removed your hand from his and went off on him. "Why are you here? It's not like you care about me? Why are you here?! And why did you sav-" you were yet again interrupted by more sounds of grunts and you both look to see the 3 corpses up again and 3 more arriving. "No time, poisonous corpse" Wangji said and in one fast move he literally swept you off your feet and picked you up bridal style and ran. You tried to resist but none of that effected Wangji. He entered a cave with you in his arms and placed you down on the cave ground. He then put a few protective talisman, to guard the gate.
"I refuse to stay here a minute with you" you said and stood up. In a blink of your eye Wangji was infront you and he pushed you aginst the cold wall of the cave towering infront of your short shape, you craned your neck to look at him.
"Zha- Lah-Lan Zhan! What are you doing?" You asked.
Wangji looked at you and you felt like you'd melt right then and there. "Show Y/n my love" he said and crashed his lips onto yours. This was a foreign feeling to you. The way he devoured your lips and you reciprocated felt like sparks. You felt a fire in the pits of your stomach or below. He asked you "trust me?" Looking deep into your eyes, and all you could do was shake your head. He slowly slid your outer robe and you did the same for him. Slowly all the layers came off, you found yourself tracing his chest with your hands, it was more toned that you imagined.
As the layers were now off, he slowly sat down on the cave floor and pulled you on his lap. You loved how your small body fit with his. "So pretty" he said as he kissed your neck and sucked on the skin, making you moan. "Mine" he said before he went further south but holding you up by your ass. "Lan Zhan~" you moaned as his mouth took your hard nipple into his mouth. If there was heaven on earth, it was here right now for you. He slowly laid you down and climbed on top of you, covering your whole body with his. He looked at you for permission, which you granted and his hands reached your wet core. His touch felt like fire, he slowly reached down and drew circles around you clit, making you moan his name harder.
He slowly inserted one of his slender fingers inside you and started pumping making your mind dizzy. Then he added one more finger and by then you were panting, a knot was forming inside your belly that tightened and tightened and as soon as he added the third finger and pumped a few times. The knot came undone, your toes curled and you bit his shoulder, making him moan. "Ready?" He asked and you nodded, "i need more" you said panting, "make me yours" you told him. And he lowered and inserted himself inside you slowly pushing little by little. You felt his hard member throbbing inside you. You felt whole, invincible and on cloud nine. Lan Zhan grunted as he thrust inside you slowly to let you adjust. He kept picking pace, "yes Lan Zhan, yes" you said encouraging him and he increased his speed, hitting in the right spot that made you eyes roll back.
You moaned his name louder, "I'm close" you whimpered. "Together" Lan Zhan said looking into your eyes, you pulled him closer and kissed him. "Now" he said and you let go the two of you moaned and grunted as Lan Zhan rode you through your high.
The two of you lied beside each other and suddenly you said "didn't we do a taboo?! Lan Zhan did you break rules?!" You whisper yelled. "Not in Cloud Recess" he said asuring you. "Still be did a taboo" you said, but he just wrapped his arms around you and said "mine". "Why were you behaving that way then?" You finally asked the question that has been lirking on your mind. "Y/n was with Zewu Jun, Juniors said you both looked good" he said pouting. You wanted to squish his cheeks "Was Lan Zhan jealous?" You asked, only to get a "Mn" in response that melted your heart. "I'm yours, I can't be or even think about anyone else" you said.
Wangji suddenly turned and started kissing you hugrily, but you pushed him away and strandled him and started kissing him. He pulled you on his lap and this time made you ride him until the two of you came and lied down with you on top of him, in his arms and the two of you fell asleep. Tiredness took over you as you both found comfort in each other.
_____________________________________
Inside Cloud Recess
"First Ln Guniya was missing now even Wangji is mossing with her" Zewu Jun said pacing around, he hoped Wangji atleast found you before any harm could happen to either of you. That was when they saw Wangji riding in on Bichen with Y/n on his back. You attendants rushed to you as soon as they sae you. You explained how you went for a walk and then fell asleep and how later Wangji saved you. Wangji told them how you two had to spend the night in a cave as the Corpse were poisonous.
"I'm happy you both are safe, please refrain from going on walks around the gate closing time. Even for two people who are supposed to be bethrowed, they shouldn't spend nights together before wedlock" Zewu Jun said.
"Bethrowed?" You repeated. "Yes, you and Wangji are to be bethrowed soon, I proposed the offer and your brother said you accept" he said and you just nodded and said "sorry I'm just tired" and thus Zewu Jun asked you to go rest. You turned to your attendants and said "He was serious about that question. I thought when Wuxian asked about the marriage, he was joking! I'll kill that-" you were interrupted yet again by the love of your life, who came to back hug you one last time before you both part. Before releasing you he mumbled one word into you ears, "MINE".

Jumping off the Bell’s Hells vs. Mighty Nein question…what does Bell’s Hells need most right now? What can Sam bring to the table that would make BH as complete as MN? Is it just “a life cleric” for maximum healing, or do you think there’s something better out there?
Hi anon,
You would need a drastic reworking of the entire party. One person swapping out can't fix it.
I'm going to stick to combat and not more general stuff [high INT doesn't matter much in combat unless that's your casting stat but GOD it's not optional in a longform campaign] but in short:
You're fucked by having two (mostly) sorcerers in a party. It's one of the least versatile classes by far; all the glass cannon of a wizard with a fraction of the utility. As my url indicates I am nearly always a caster main but also very much NOT a casters as blasters person and sorcerers are basically designed to be this (except divine soul love u dariax).
melee line is strong so that's pretty good, though Ashton's stuff is unpredictable by design and as a result they're a touch behind Yasha, and the fact that Chetney runs the risk of attacking the party in wolf mode is something of a liability that the Nein did not have.
None of the melee tank line has quite the range the Nein melee line had at the end: Yasha could fly; Beau was a monk; Fjord had a trillion short range teleport options and could also if necessary fly. Ashton, Chetney, and Orym have comparatively limited options and Ashton's can't be relied on. I love Ashton's subclass but whenever you can't control the situation you cede something in combat to someone who does. I do actually own a copy of The Art of War for non-douchebag reasons and I'm pretty sure it says that.
Really, hexadin is literally one of the most bonkers good verging on broken combos and if you don't have one you are probably at a disadvantage over a party that does.
For all I am a Rogue Hater Of Some Renown, they are very good in combat scenarios when on a party with a strong melee tank line. Burst damage is overrated but man it is kind of great when, simply because your melee fighters are doing what they do best, the rogue can eliminate a handful of d6s worth of enemy HP for free.
Fearne would need to be played very differently. This isn't a judgment of how Ashley plays her - I love her choices and feel they're in character. However, to compete with the Mighty Nein she would need to be played rather more like Jester, with a more even split of offensive and healing. She can do this, and sometimes does, but that's not her usual style.
The Nein had two main healers plus a hexadin plus Yasha had a little; Bells Hells has only one person with any healing at the moment.
The Nein had two people who could cast Counterspell. Laudna has no one to counter Caleb when he counterspells her counterspell.
This is very subjective, but also, I think the Mighty Nein really played to a lot of the cast's strengths mechanically, and Bells Hells are an expansion of their comfort zones, which is a good thing but it also means they play the Nein more optimally.
Anyway I think full cleric (most subclasses will do) is probably the wisest bet for Sam and if he can throw in a high INT score (knowledge cleric? wizard dip? Just a smart guy?) that wouldn't hurt, but yeah the Nein are still winning this one unless you replace like half the party.

Behold… a project that began back in October 5th 2022…
C3 Swap AU
I am nothing if not predictable
What is the swap AU?
The swap AU was created due to my love of that genre (If you followed me in my Persona phase, you know what I mean)
It was a way for me to practice my craft as time goes on and to this day, I’m still learning. It’s also an excuse for me to draw pretty outfits
It was also inspired by Eren Angiolini’s CR swapped classes (mainly VM and MN back then) before their own rendition of Bell’s Hells, done in 2023
The difference between my version and Eren’s is that instead of swapping DnD classes (Fighter -> Paladin) , we changed their subclasses (Fighter : Battle master -> Fighter : Eldritch knight). Some of these were taken from completely made up thanks to a homebrew list of subclasses
The entire creation of this AU is a group effort from various members of the Dorym Nation discord server. We did not plan for it to work as well as it did as episode rolled by. We did it mostly on vibes and somehow made everyone’s backstory sadder (oops)
Why making this post now?
With campaign 3 coming close to an end, I felt like it was finally time for me to face my fears and show the people what 2 years of creation do to someone, without any remorse for showing enjoyment in a piece of media.
I also struggle with showcasing my work in the last couple of years to a wider audience, especially with the rise in A/I art and N/F/T that just destroyed me mentally. This is why you don’t see much art posting from me
Also every time I thought I had a breather with art, shit just kept happening in the canon game and it really just spiralled to what we have today… Mind you this was created around episode e20 so we didn’t know everything about the characters back then… We were so close but had to change some stuff and add something else… I love the creative process <3
What did you mean by “you made everyone’s backstory sadder?”
When you go into a project made on vibes, you kiiiiind of mix-match a couple of ideas together. With the Swap AU, not only did we swap their subclasses, but we also swapped elements of their backstories with another member of their group. You will see it with everyone’s post.
Wait so you’re not sharing the art yet? Why not?
My goal with this post is to give you guys a small introduction to the AU. I know this will be at the very least 10 post in total minus this one since I’m hoping to give each Hellions their very own Tumblr posts
I am also a perfectionist and I want to give the best quality possible when posting the artworks. I am in the making of creating front facing reference sheets of each member of BH with max 6 different clothes ( EXU or start of the campaign, ball, outfit 2, current one, and for those with specific body transformations get that illustrated also)
There is already existing art of the AU that was created by @czpeterp that you can see here! (Their art is amazing, go check them out!!)
I have Fearne and Chetney’s that are complete, and Imogen is the next one in line. Expect for a post about them coming really soon (hopefully tomorrow)
That’s all for now! Sorry for all the rambling lmao, I do hope I piqued your curiosity and I’ll see you (hopefully) tomorrow morning for our first Swapped character: Fearne Calloway!

#xiantober2024 Day 31: Batxian/Happy Birthday
During Wei Ying's highschool years all of the major universities with magic programs held tours and events so those looking to attend a school can find a good fit. Wei Ying went to them all despite figuring he'd go to Yunmeng.
What he hadn't expected was how much he actually enjoyed Gusu.
Gusu University had a designated magic school campus called Cloud Recesses; it was up on a mountain and quite secluded. There are also many rules (though it is significantly more lax than it was when founded).
Everything he had known about Gusu University should have made him feel least drawn to it.
And yet.
He attended a summer program there during highschool and frankly fell in love with the place. He also made a friend—or, he tried to anyway. He's determinded about it.
The point is, Wei Ying ultimately fell in love with Cloud Recesses and the programs they taught. Everyone who knew him was stunned when he announced where he would be going to university but he just laughed.
On his first day during orientation he saw him: Lan Zhan. The one he is determined to befriend. He wasn't sure what it was about him, but he felt drawn to him more than he'd ever felt drawn to anyone before.
Wei Ying sought him out constantly.
At first, Lan Zhan had seemed quite resistant to his charms (much like he was during the summer program) but Wei Ying is nothing if not determined. He persevered, never letting himself get too down about the fact that Lan Zhan seemingly didn't want to be his friend.
There was a part of him, deep down, that whispered things he didn't want to hear: that he was annoying, a burden, that Lan Zhan hated him and wanted nothing to do with him.
He doesn't want that to be true. He doesn't think it's true. Lan Zhan had begun to warm up to him.
Lan Zhan didn't walk away from him as often, he listened to him talk, he worked well with him when they teamed up for projects, he allowed Wei Ying to enter his dorm. He was sure that Lan Zhan didn't hate him but he wasn't sure if he liked him yet or not.
Wei Ying spent the first year of university enjoying his classes, honing his magical craft, and spending as much time with Lan Zhan as possible.
By the end of the year he'd learned one major thing: he was in love with Lan Zhan.
It was a quiet revelation, really.
They had been studying in Lan Zhan's dorm, Wei Ying sprawled awkwardly on the floor, when Lan Zhan silently handed him a pillow. Wei Ying had looked up at his best friend and thought, 'Oh, I love him.'
Simple as that.
Wei Ying promised to text and call Lan Zhan all the time over the summer and Lan Zhan quietly agreed to respond. He felt hopeful that he would be able to get closer to Lan Zhan next year.
They chatted often during the summer and it did little to lessen his longing until autumn.
He was climbing the final steps to Cloud Recesses when he noticed that Lan Zhan was standing at the gate, watching him. Wei Ying smiled wide, yelled his name, and launched himself at him. He wrapped his arms around Lan Zhan in a hug and then realized what he was doing.
Lan Zhan was stiff under him and Wei Ying felt reality wash over him. Lan Zhan hates people touching him. He was just beginning to pull back, a laugh and apology on the tip of his tongue when Lan Zhan's arms came up to hug him back. Wei Ying stilled and then melted into it.
"I missed you, Lan Zhan," Wei Ying murmured.
"Mn," Lan Zhan replied. "I missed you as well, Wei Ying."
Wei Ying gasped and pulled back to stare into his eyes. "Does that mean we are friends?"
Lan Zhan blinked, eyes wide in stunned confusion. "I had thought that was apparent."
"Ah. Well, you know..." Wei Ying trailed off awkwardly. "It's nice to have confirmation sometimes, I guess."
"I see. You are my friend, Wei Ying. I enjoy spending time with you and I missed you."
Wei Ying felt his face heat and he shoved Lan Zhan away gently, chuckling quietly.
The first few weeks of their second year of university went smoothly, better than Wei Ying even expected.
And then, towards the end of October, things changed very suddenly.
Wei Ying was alone in of of the labs, working on some experiments for one of his inventions when there was a shift in the air. He felt chilled and could sense a malicious presence watching him. He turned around but only caught the briefest glimpse of a person before a flash.
A blinding light filled his vision and he felt magic hit his chest, he was unguarded, never expecting something like this to happen in Cloud Recesses of all places. Whatever magic was sent at him was one fuelled by hatred, the acrid taste of it on his tongue before he passed out.
He came to with a groan, lifting a hand to his head. Only... His hand felt different.
His whole arm felt different.
With his heart racing, Wei Ying opened his eyes to find that his once human arm was now that of a bat. His whole body was that of a bat.
He was a bat.
Shakily, he tried to orient himself but everything felt so different—so much bigger—from this perspective. He tried to think, to remember what happened. Who in the world would curse him into a bat? Who would do that kind of magic on campus? And /why/ curse him at all?
Frustrated and disoriented, Wei Ying looked around the room in an attempt to gather his bearings. After a moment, he realized he was still in the lab alone, the sky was fully dark and based on the clock on the wall it was after 3 am.
He looked around the room, looking for any signs of who did this and realized that the door was fully shut, all the windows were closed, and he was trapped.
Panic surged stronger in him at that realization. He didn't know how to get out or how to turn back into a human.
He crawled along the floor and wrapped his wings around the leg of one of the tables as he tried not to let the panic completely consume him.
He was a smart and capable student, he had a deeper understanding of magic than most at his age he just needed to think.
He needed Lan Zhan.
He needed Lan Zhan!
Lan Zhan always helps him calm and focus but he's also one of the best mages of their age. He needed to get to him and he'll know what to do.
The problem was: he was currently trapped.
He could risk exploring a vent (but who knows what problems he might find in that uncharted territory) or he could wait until someone comes in and he can sneak out the door that way.
Wei Ying opted to wait and chose to figure out how to fly to kill the time.
Really, being a bat wasn't so bad. Flying was super fun. He just wishes he got to choose this and knew it was temporary for certain.
A few hours passed when he heard footsteps in the hall. He positioned himself above the door and flew out the moment it opened.
He did the same at the entrance and then he was outside.
It was...
A lot.
Very overwhelming to his tiny bat senses. He struggled to navigate his way across campus to Lan Zhan's dorm but he eventually made it without any issues arising.
He flew around, searching for Lan Zhan's window, thankful that his best friend liked to keep one open most of the time to let air in. He zipped in and flopped onto Lan Zhan's bed, exhausted. A quick glance showed the room was empty and he huffed. Of course. Classes.
Resigned to waiting until Lan Zhan returned, he opted to nap. Wei Ying cuddled up in Lan Zhan's bed and quickly drifted off to sleep.
~
"—were not in class today and you did not answer your door. Please call me back, Wei Ying." Lan Zhan's muffled voice drifted into his ears.
Wei Ying twitched, not wanting to wake up. He was trying to figure out why Lan Zhan would sound so worried, he was right here.
It all came back to him when the thud of Lan Zhan's door closing startled him away and he saw his own little bat wings.
The curse.
He heard Lan Zhan gasp and Wei Ying whipped around to look at him. Lan Zhan was frozen by the door, staring at him with wide eyes. Wei Ying waved and tried to speak but all that came out was a small squeak.
"What?" Lan Zhan whispered.
Wei Ying launched at him, gripping onto the front of his shirt and climbing up to look at his face. Lan Zhan twitched and stared at him. Wei Ying pat him on the chest and squeaked pitifully.
He watched as Lan Zhan's brow furrowed and then shock set in. "Wei Ying?" he asked.
Delighted, Wei Ying squeaked and pushed off, flying around the room in little circles before landing back on his chest and very deliberately nodding his head.
Lan Zhan sighed in relief. "Did you turn yourself into a bat?"
Wei Ying shook his head and Lan Zhan frowned.
"Someone else did this to you?"
He nodded.
"I see," Lan Zhan muttered darkly. His hand came up to cup Wei Ying's back and Wei Ying took the opportunity to crawl onto Lan Zhan's forearm and hand upside down. Lan Zhan pulled his arm up to meet Wei Ying's gaze. "At the lab?"
Wei Ying nodded again. Lan Zhan really was so smart.
Over the next couple of days he and Lan Zhan (well, Lan Zhan mostly seeing as he was a bat and couldn't actually contribute much) worked to figure out the spell, the caster, and how to turn him back.
Lan Zhan set up some complex arrays in his room and set Wei Ying down in the middle and told him to stay. So, Wei Ying decided to nap to make sure he didn't accidentally ruin their progress. He woke to Lan Zhan cradling him gently against his chest, murmuring his name softly.
He yawned and blinked up at Lan Zhan. Lan Zhan smiled and Wei Ying felt like he could melt. "I know who did this." At that, Wei Ying perked up. "It was Su She," Lan Zhan replied, anger colouring his voice.
The name was vaguely familiar to Wei Ying but he couldn't place it.
He tilted his head in question and Lan Zhan let out a small sigh. "He is the one you said wanted to be me or fuck me."
Wei Ying huffs, eyes narrowing. Why would he curse him?
Lan Zhan seemed to sense his question because he continued. "I do not know why he did this but I told my uncle about the situation and Su She will be questioned about it all soon."
Nodding, Wei Ying still wanted to know what happened to him so he tapped himself on the chest.
Thankfully Lan Zhan understood that. "He used a complex array to combine a transmutation spell with a timer lock spell and linked that to a confession spell. Essentially, he turned you into a bat and you will stay a bat if you do not confess your biggest secret by your birthday."
Wei Ying's eyes widened in horror.
What?
"I am sorry, Wei Ying."
No. No. No. No. No.
"I wish there was another way."
This was not how he wanted to confess to Lan Zhan.
"It is nearly your birthday. Crafting a counterspell array will take too long."
No...
He never planned to tell Lan Zhan how he felt. He cared too much about his friendship to potentially ruin it by confessing to him. He sure as hell never intended to confess as a /bat/ in order to avoid /staying/ a bat forever.
This was such a mess but he only had one option.
Wei Ying will confess his feelings to Lan Zhan, turn back into a human, and hope that things won't get weird between them. Sullenly, he nodded.
Lan Zhan set him down on the floor in front of his laptop. It was already open to a blank document. All Wei Ying had to do was type.
He glanced back at Lan Zhan to see him already turned around, giving Wei Ying privacy to write out his confession first. He truly is the best.
Wei Ying's heart ached as he set out to type a simple message.
'Lan Zhan. I am in love with you.'
It took him a while, but he did it.
He crawled off the laptop to the side and sat awkwardly. He took a breath and let out a few squeaks to get Lan Zhan's attention, closing his eyes as soon as Lan Zhan started to turn.
Wei Ying heard a gasp and then felt the tell-tale sign of magic coursing through him.
He was human again.
"Wei Ying," Lan Zhan breathed. "Wei Ying, do you mean it?"
Steeling himself, Wei Ying smiled and opened his eyes. Whatever he planned to say left him the moment he saw the raw /hope/ painting Lan Zhan's face. "Yes," he whispered.
Lan Zhan shuffled to kneel in front of him. "Wei Ying," he breathed, taking his hands. "I love you. I am in love with you. You mean the world to me."
"Really?"
"Of course. How could I look at you and not fall in love?"
Wei Ying laughed wetly. "I feel that way about you."
Lan Zhan smiled. "Mn."
Wei Ying pulled Lan Zhan into a tight hug, relishing the fierceness in Lan Zhan’s hold. "Are we gonna have to thank Su She now?" he joked.
"Wei Ying," Lan Zhan chided, clearly unamused at the prospect.
Wei Ying chuckled. "I know, I know."
He couldn't help but smile. He was incandescent with glee. Lan Zhan /loved/ him!
"Lan Zhan, can I kiss you?"
"Yes."
Their first kiss was a shy, chaste thing. But it didn't take long for it to devolve into something heady and passionate. He had never been happier.
When they pulled back to catch their breath, chests heaving against each other, Lan Zhan pressed a kiss to his head. "Happy birthday, Wei Ying."
Wei Ying smiled. "Happy birthday indeed. Kiss me more?"
Lan Zhan eagerly obliged.
~
Later, Lan Qiren would tell them that Su She admitted to casting the spell because he felt jealous and wanted Lan Zhan to himself (stupid really) and was later expelled after having had his magic locked.
No one knows what came of him after that.
Lan Zhan would later buy a bat plush to gift to Wei Ying for their one-year anniversary alongside more gifts for Wei Ying's birthday (truly, he spoils him). Wei Ying will laugh and hug the plush.
"I made a cute bat, didn't I?" he'd ask.
Lan Zhan would smile and agree.

There are two music studios in the building that faces the mountains. One belongs to the Lan family. They're famous violinists, walls lining up with their awards, golden cups and medals shining in the light. Lan Qiren, a world-renowned virtuoso, teaches the most talented of the young generation, his nephews, alongside several other students from high class backgrounds. He teaches them the classics, expects rigorous, disciplined, harmonious music to enchant his ears during every lesson, his criticism is scathing and his praise is rare. His most talented student, Lan Wangji, has already secured spots in the world's most famed orchestras.
The other studio belongs to a woman known as Cangse Sanren, a retired rockstar, highly talented, her music still being played on international radios during throwback segments twenty years later. She teaches the young generations how to feel the music, how to have fun with it, and to be disciplined only as long as they don't stifle their own creativity with rules and limitations. Her son, Wei Ying, is the apple of her eye and her best student. He's already signed record deals, his songs are receiving millions of streams online and he's recruiting band members.
The studios are a floor apart.
The first time Wei Ying and Lan Zhan meet is on the stairway.
---
"Are you nervous?" Lan Zhan asks. Wei Ying smiles, putting his guitar down. That had been his last rehearsal, and it had been great, as usual... well, almost.
"A little. The venue sold out. Thousands of people... I've never had such a big audience..."
Lan Zhan says nothing, but instead fishes through his bag for something and hands it to Wei Ying.
"What's this?"
"Look."
The envelope reveals the familiar design of Wei Ying's concert tickets. He can't help an excited shout. "You're coming?!"
"Mn."
Wei Ying jumps onto Lan Zhan and pulls him into a tight hug. "You said you didn't find any more tickets!"
"Brother pulled some strings. I wanted it to be a surprise the day of, but you looked like you needed encouragement now."
Wei Ying laughs, relieved. "I'm so glad you'll be there. I always feel so happy when you're around."
"Likewise."
Wei Ying laughs again, "So formal."
Neither realize they're still holding one another so tightly.
They also don't realize that, all of a sudden, their lips are inches apart.
And neither know who initiated first, but they're suddenly making out in the middle of Wei Ying's studio.
In the doorway, Cangse Sanren stretches her palm out and Lan Qiren very reluctantly high fives her.

(Haven't seen much of MN, so this is a very incomplete view)
The thing that puts me off trying to get back into it is what seemed a lack of character responsibility/consequence - to npcs, and each other. (again, just from first impressions, and a few things you've mentioned about MN)
I find the suspension of disbelief harder when you feel a person realistically shouldn't be able to act a certain way without push back. (Chetney attacking that shopkeeper then being capture dozens of episodes later for it, people being scared when Laudna does something scary...)
All I can remember is Beau getting flack from the other pcs for being rude, but that's about it?
I'd like to enjoy MN, and you're pretty objective about it, so would you say I'm way off base with my impression of it?
this is kind of a tricky subject to talk about given i doubt i’m very objective but i’ll try my best to work it out. for the most part, i would say your initial impression feels like it's very much rooted in early c2, so we'll work from there.
if it’s a “how dare nobody yell at jester or punch her in the mouth for being annoying to soldiers or goofing off in temples! she should have been punished for not taking things seriously!” put off, that gives off vibes of “how dare fearne never face legitimate consequences for stealing or trying to steal!” sometimes a joke is just a joke and i feel if jester was given anything harsher than getting thrown out of a library it’d feel gratuitous and kind of cruel. i don’t want to watch jester lavorre get the shit kicked out of her for drawing a dick on a building.
if it’s a “i’m disappointed that the characters will make super important game-changing dice rolls that allow them to coast by in the story without much conflict that would have been interesting to explore” put off, then on some level it does bug me too, but what am i supposed to do if the dice decide beau and veth should get out of jail free by jester giving the hag a cupcake or caduceus sneezing and sinking a million ships or bringing back a fan-favorite character? i do not control the way the dice roll. the same thing just happened with laudna and briarflop
but if it’s a “this serious rp moment was ruined by a joke or they straight-up forgot it happened or refused to engage with it because it didn’t personally affect them at the time” put off, now we’re getting somewhere. i did notice that post-bowlgate the players basically got scared into being a little less punchy with each other in ways that felt realistic (there’s way more gifsets of beau and caleb being actively aggressive at each other post-molly’s death than prior to it, let’s put it that way) and while i do appreciate a lot of the heart-to-hearts i feel like they can get a little… too nice to each other? some of the best moments in the campaigns are when tensions ride high and it isn’t so "yay look at us we are friends" coded. angel of irons arc you will always be famous!
(will say was horrified when both liam and travis said they might have left the nein 80-90 episodes in. because, holy shit what do you mean you were going to abandon everybody?)
this is a problem with all the campaigns; for example, in campaign three they sped right on past the talking tree the second it gave ashton the info he needed and nobody else got a turn with it, which pissed me right the fuck off. though i appreciate that for the most part we always get conclusions to small things that come back to bite the cast later on even though it has been a pain in the ass watching orym’s arduous journey into class consciousness for the past 40 episodes because of the plot getting in the way of the character moments and i just want it to happen already. i know it’s going to happen but fucking when
the one time i genuinely think there was a moment with an utter lack of responsibility or consequences was how they handled xhorhaus and the kryn dynasty. on some level, sure, ashley had a busy schedule and they didn’t have a lot of time to get into her backstory with it but they really did just speedrun getting the bright queen on their side and the moment they had her trust, away went them interacting with the war or with anti-monster sentiment. which felt double weird given fjord and how he was bullied for being half-orc but when it came to that possibly getting addressed in that context… crickets.
and of course… essek. the guy who kind of ruined countless lives without them knowing it. and i agree with caduceus that punishing him then and there wouldn’t bring back all the people he hurt. i can see how caleb could tie his own struggle believing the lies of a superior to his. but then, it’s kind of uneven. caleb was a teenage boy and essek was an adult man. nothing that the nein did or attempted to do (veth threatening to reignite the war as payment for the hag does not count as actually doing it!) possibly matched up to the actions he chose to perform with no coercion. they were also under no pact to allow him to brainwash someone into thinking they did it with the only excuse being “he was a jerk to essek and we like essek!” and having that total stranger getting his life ruined to end the war with zero fanfare.
there could have been an interesting story beat there with someone they trusted and saw as a friend turning out to be a traitor, but they said no, so let’s throw in a sexy beholder to be the last bbeg! and then we can mug an old guy and oops we only have five minutes left in the campaign, let’s set up a five-year-plan to stop the empire which we just now decided needs to go.
i was told there apparently was a huge argument at the end of campaign two about the ending feeling like neoliberal feel-good “change the system from the inside!” trash and while i wouldn’t go that far, i’d say it’s so disappointing because you know it’s not going to work. you know that you can’t change the system incrementally and eventually it’ll be too much to handle and blow up in your face.
conversely, campaign three’s biggest flaw is how violently it shatters the illusion of a perfect fantasy world and makes it impossible to enjoy previous campaigns without that nagging feeling in the back of your head. it shows the world’s ugliness in full overdrive that even a fantasy world is not exempt from. and that can be jarring for people who were just here to turn their brains off and enjoy people doing stuff alongside blue people and magic and the lack of downtime added to that can make people feel like they're just going through the motions or listening to a boring worldbuilding infodump
so i guess, sure, if you’re annoyed by a noticeable lack of consequences with character actions that either get brushed off as jokes or are never fully explored due to the players’ own incuriousness, then you might wanna watch crit recap animated for mighty nein or wait until the cartoon comes out. if you can overlook that, i say give it a shot! it’s still a good story even if i feel like it could have been better had they tried to take more risks and not be so safe with it.

TW: mentions of Death, PTSD, Panick attacks, Abuse
Summary: Honami with an S/O that suffers from PTSD due to seeing their mother die
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
⋆ When you were a kid your dad was extremely abusive towards you and your mother
⋆ you didn't like how he treated her at all , he would always hit your mom if she did one simple mistake and he would do the same thing to you if you did a mistake yourself
⋆ One day you were helping you were helping your mother in the kitchen to help her make you a cake since it was your birthday , one of the only days in the year you truly feel happy but your father had other plans for that day
⋆ After you and your mother finished celebrating your birthday in which you turned 5 years your father entered through the door and saw that none of you waited for him
⋆ When your mother saw the look in his face she told you to run quick and hide , she would distract him
⋆ luckily for you , your father didn't see where you were hidden , but before you noticed it he walked in to the kitchen dragging your mother by the arm
⋆ He had a strong grip on her you could tell , she was trying to get out but nothing worked
⋆ With that he took a knife from the drawers and stabbed her multiple times
⋆ After your mom stopped moving your dad left the house thinking you ran away and when he close the door you went out the closest
⋆ You were shaking and crying so much
⋆ You didn't know what to do , you were so scared what if he were to find you again what if he kill's you too
⋆ That same night the neighbors called the police for a noise complaints 🙄 which lead to the police finding you laying crying close to your mother's dead body
⋆ After that you stayed with your aunt and fortunately your father was putted in prison
⋆ But things weren't the same after that you were different
⋆ When you turned six your aunt said there was a few children that always played in the park close to the house so if anything went wrong you could come back
⋆ and you actually went , and this was were U met your childhood best friends Saki , Ichika , Shiho and Honami
⋆ Ever since that day you felt happier than you have ever been you felt happy to spend time with them
⋆ That was until Saki was sent to the hospital in middle school and had to stay during Junior high as well
⋆ All of you got separated well except you and Honami your mental health still got worse tho since some kids found out about what your dad did and because of that they thought you were gonna become just like your dad
⋆ Middle School was hell being constantly reminded about what happened that day over and over again just because some stupid classmate found out about it
⋆ You were on the verge of tears on your way to class until you heard a soft voice behind you catching your attention
S/O are you ok ? your breathing very fast is something wrong?
Oh Honami .... It's fine don't worry we should be heading to class anyway
⋆ It was your childhood friend and now girlfriend Honami
⋆ She confessed to you not to long ago actually she even gave you homemade apple pie she made herself to you
⋆ She knew about your past and how you had PTSD because of this she always made sure to comfort you
⋆She was always by your side when you had trouble sleeping , her hugs were always so soft not even your nightmares were able to fight against that
⋆ Apple pies became your comfort food , especially when your birthday came around instead of cake she would make you an apple pie since it helped you get your mind of it
⋆ She always did everything she could to make sure you didn't think about it
⋆ When Saki finally got back from the Hospital during High School They all fixed their friendship bods specially you , you were all so happy that you were all back together
⋆ A few days later they started noticing your behaviour change to what it seemed to be scared ? , but they didn't pay much mind to it since you've always been like this specially on your birthday .... How odd
⋆ After School Honami got asked by Saki
Why does (name) always seems so scared during the day's close to their birthday?
Oh about that...
I think it's better if you asked them yourselves since it's a very sensitive topic and I don't know if they are ready to talk about it
⋆ Now if they ask and you decide to tell them yourself , Honami will be beside you rubbing your back to comfort you , if you stop mid sentence she'll ask if you want her to finish it for you and she will tell that you were very brave for telling it to them
⋆ Now if you tell Honami to tell them she'll be very careful while telling them and also give them advice so they don't overwhelm you

15 Questions?
As tagged by @tsupertsundere! Thank?
Are you named after anyone? Yes and no? Pretty sure given name is original to me, family-wise. Middle name though, is named after a bit of family trauma, which I wasn't aware of until about 5 years ago. Never liked it much before, don't really care for it now.
Do you have kids? God no. I've never been in a place for that, and I Worry.
What sports do you play/have played? I've never found a sport that's ever appealed to me. I've tried some out, but exercise in general is anti-fun, even when I was doing it regularly. There's a bit of a family tradition of golf, but I haven't played that in over a decade at this point, so it hardly counts.
Do you use sarcasm? Oh I breathe sarcasm. It can be a problem at times.
What is the first thing you notice about people? Ope left this unedited and stole an answer. Honestly idk what I notice first, but one of the first things I want to find out about a person is their taste in media.
What is your eye color? Hazel? I think? Idk.
Scary movies or happy endings? Get outta here with that scary shit. Absolutely not in this house.
Any talents? I'm told I'm a pretty ok writer.
Where were you born? You won't get that answer from me, rando on the internet! (It's in MN though.)
What are your hobbies? Languishing, I'm bad at time management and work/life separation after law school. When I do do things for myself though, I enjoy playing games of any variety, reading, writing. I'm always like five minutes from getting into tabletop wargames. And also an embarrassing amount of gunpla.
Do you have any pets? no :(. But eventually.
How tall are you? 5'10"ish i think?
Favourite subject in school? I don't really dislike classes; even ones I'm not exactly built for (hello maths), I like the act of Learning. I probably did best in English courses; but those more played to my strengths as a student and let me be lazy.
Dream job? I want to be paid a decent wage to be the wise old hermit who hands out cryptic advice that doesn't make sense until, at the final moment, the protagonist has a revelaiton about the nature of the world or some shit. All the rest of the time I could play my games.
No tags, I always feel guilty about them. If you want, take, do, tag me so I know.

Ok I’m so curious about your environmental science degree!! I’m so impressed!! Did you have fun? Learn all the things? What was your senior year requirement?? I’ve thought about going back to school for an ecology degree so many times!
Hi @lick-anthonys-heart thanks so much for the ask!
Yes, I loved all my classes and had a lot of fun. I got the degree at the University of MN. It covered all the basics of areas of ecology: Forestry, Hydrology, Fisheries, Meteorology, Soil Science, which turned out to be fascinating, and basic science classes like Chemistry, Ecology, Biology, then got into some environmental specific stuff, like the history of Conservation in the US, Air Pollution/Mitigation, wetland management, Agricultural best practices, Environmental law, the Environmental Impact Statement process, and covered politics of the environmental movement and current events. We really learned a LOT! Also took some classes on Geographic Information Systems and the technology around environmental sampling and mapping, etc. which was what eventually led to my job.
For a senior year requirement we had the choice of doing an internship or going up to spend a summer session in the woods at Lake Itasca. I had a job at a power plant, and ended up doing a project on an initiative they were doing to burn recycled materials as fuel, which was interesting, but in hindsight, would have rather spent the summer in the woods.
Anyway, I'd recommend it! It was a really valuable experience, a lot of fun, and learned a lot.

Dreams from 1.4.24
Dream 1 (which I woke up from) MN told me to go on my break. I think I politely refused or didn't show any signs that I was making moves to go, since it was a little too early in my book for lunch. But then he mentioned it again, gently, Go on break Kath, so you can come back early.
Dream 2 I had a dream where I was your HS. There energy was not me anymore, but you. The energy was always what I've sensed as being you, but I had never known it consciously. There was no denying that I was seeing things from your energetic viewpoint but behind that, the awareness that looks on over everything (and what lies behind my own HS) was the same. I remember how it felt to be your HS and less about what actually happened. I think you had cracked. You were in the chat and you were angry, but it wasn't exactly anger, it was a type of cracking. Of letting go. I think Mort had said something. Or somebody had said something, and there were no more masks. You challenged him/them but also it was not a challenge, it was being real. The realest that anyone can ever be, but saturated with mania and madness and letting go of confines and giving birth to something, that cannot ever be reigned back in. Your HS was power, terror and an unleashing. It was very strong energy and this is the best I can do to describe it. All I know is that you cracked and it neither good nor bad, it just was. (I think this is probably the frustration going on behind the scenes with ppl being slow af)
Dream 3 I was at school and the next class was swimming class, which meant we had to travel by bus to the swimming pool. I didn't really want to go, it was too much effort. At the same time, I didn't mind going as long as AL would be there. So I asked her, Are you going to go? She said, No. But then after few moments she said, Yes but it won't do anything for me, I don't want to go but I will, only because it will pass the time and then I will be able to go home and be tired and I'll go to sleep and I'll be able to meet Bobby (her cat) 'there'. (I get the feeling that my HS meant one of her cats that have passed away that also has a B name, because the sense is that she will be able to meet them in heaven/the astral).
Now I'm in the change room of the swimming pool and putting my bathers on. I wasn't sure what to wear. And instead of putting on the appropriate swim wear for what it is I'm about to partake in, I am trying to decide on what regular outdoor outfit to wear. I keep taking my clothes on and off, looking in the mirror and trying to make the outfit 'feel' right. Eventually I had on a midriff top and cut-off shorts. I was thinking about changing the top from a plainer one, to one that was magenta pink because AL said it looked better. Also, it would match the aesthetic of what other people seemed to be wearing.
Then that scene disappears and I am standing in a full piece swimsuit that looks more like wet suit than anything. It was not fashionable at all. The area beyond my knees and elbows was where skin showed. It was in the same colour as the top from the previous scene, hot pink. There were buckles to keep the wet suit in place at my thighs, but I didn't do them up yet. Then I met some chick who was being weird and a little rude to me. I can't remember what she said, only that she had on the same bathing suit as I. When I walked out of the change room and saw AL, she said that I lost weight. I could see it too, the ribs of my chest more pronounced than before.
Then we went swimming. But it turns into being my sister and I having a bath inside of our house. I think we are children again. We seem to be wearing swimsuits, while having this bath. My mum kept calling us to finish already and come out. The first time, I ignored her and same goes for the second time. I was just in that world and did not want to be disrupted. And then the third time, I heard her voice more clearly somehow and that was the time I decided to listen and leave the bathroom. When I got into the living room, it looked like there had been a party in our house, unbeknownst to my sister and I. But I think we did know, just did not want to. People were sitting on the couch opening presents and my mum said, Why did you ignore me, you said you would get changed and come out immediately, you were suppose to attend the party and now it's almost over. Her friends, or maybe it's her siblings, they all look at me and don't say anything. I barely feel any disdain in the air, it's just whatever, at least we're here now. I get the impression that SM and his gf were invited to this party but since he knew I would be there, he didn't come. They made an excuse to avoid it.

How did you find DIN 1.2714 Steel in India? If you need a tool steel that can handle high temperatures, pressures, and stresses, look no further than DIN 1.2714 Steel. It’s the best in class for close die forgings.
DIN 1.2714 is a Hot Work Tool Steel that conforms to the German DIN (Deutsches Institut für Normung) standard. It is also known by other designations such as 55NiCrMoV7 or L6 in different international standards.
DIN 1.2714 (DB6 Steel) is a tool steel grade that is commonly used in the manufacturing of forging dies and plastic molds. It belongs to the group of hot work tool steels and is known for its high-temperature stability, wear resistance, and toughness. DIN 1.2714 (DB6 Steel) is often used in applications where the material needs to withstand elevated temperatures during the manufacturing process, such as in forging and die-casting operations.
The chemical composition of DIN 1.2714 (DB6 Steel) typically includes elements such as:
Carbon (C): 0.50-0.60% Silicon (Si): 0.10-0.40% Manganese (Mn): 0.60-0.90% Chromium (Cr): 1.00-1.50% Nickel (Ni): 1.00-1.50% Molybdenum (Mo): 0.20-0.30% Vanadium (V): 0.10-0.30%

Jingyi and Rusong: *walking down the hall with A-Yao*
Yao: firstly we'll go meet A-niang, and then we'll head to my secret room.
Jingyi: whaaatttt??? You have a secret room?!! So hanguang Jun was right! Well he always is.
Yao: yes I do have a secret room.
But now it's situated in Jing Manor. Well in my bedroom.
It's only accessed by a mirror.
Jingyi: that's so cool. Rusong, did you go there?!
Rusong: yup. Only very few people can go into A-Die's secret room. Team d, Xichen, Nainai and myself.
If someone out of that circle wishes to enter, they have to ask A-Die for permission, and go under his supervision.
Jingyi: what's so secretive about the place.
Yao: hence the name, secret room.
It has manuscripts, books, various weapons and torture devices that I collected from the Wens and the sunshot campaign. Some fox spirit stuff as well. My secret room is kind of the treasury of the empire.
Jingyi: wow.
Yao: my collections would always help the defense force in some way.
Jingyi: isn't your secret room in jinlintai?
Yao: it's here now.
Thanks to Minshan, he moved all my relics here, with the help of his teleportation talismans.
He brought my mirrors and everything.
Jingyi: didn't know that loser could do anything, than copy Hanguang Jun. I can't believe I have to see that book stealer.
Yao: *a little furious*
Rusong: Jingyi.
Yao: as er Dianxia, you should have respect for my team. They're my elite.
Insulting them is like insulting Huangdi.
Jingyi: mn. Ok Huangdi Diedie.
Yao: right.
*smile*
Jingyi: i like xue yang out of the three by the way.
Yao: suit yourself.
But team dimple is one. They move and function as one.
Jingyi: ohh. Diedie, what will we do afterwards?
Yao: we'll party.
Jingyi: are you serious!!
Yao: well yea! You're my son now, so obviously I'll throw a party.
The empire must recognize you as the second Wangzi.
Jingyi: gonna be lit!!!
Yao: however, Yi'er, there are some things you got to learn. It's just minor things. Song'er will teach you.
Rusong: *smile*
Jingyi: ok. I'm up for it. And Rusong isn't old and boring like Lan qiren.
Yao: *laughing* right!
Rusong: yes A-Yi, I won't put you to sleep, lol.
Rusong: first lesson.
Let me tell you how to greet taihou, our Nainai.
Eternal flower Pavillion 📍. (Meng Shi's residence)
Yao: A-niang.
Meng Shi: hi Yao'er, works done? *strokes head*
Yao: yes.
Rusong: Nainai. *kisses her hand respectfully*
Yao: I have adopted someone, A-niang. Introducing my second son, Lan Jingyi.
Jingyi: *bows* greetings taihou. *kisses her hand like Rusong*
Meng shi: awww! What a darling. Lan too?
Jingyi: yes.
Meng Shi: cute cute. Just call me Nainai, dear.
Stressed about the lan sect?
Jingyi: very stressed! I hate the long boring classes. And I decided on having a better life with Rusong and Huangdi diedie.
Meng Shi: oh my.
Jingyi: but I would miss pranking that old goat.
Meng Shi: *cracking up* old goat! Loooll!! You seem like a handful, Yi'er. You and Song'er are planning on wreaking havoc in Jing Manor?
*pinches their cheeks* then you're going to spend all your Diedie's money.
Rusong: that's my job, Nainai.
Jingyi: and it's mine too!
Meng Shi: ahhhh, what a pair! A-Yao, you have beautiful children indeed, and a beautiful family.
Yao: I agree, thank you.
A-niang, we're having a party later.
Meng Shi: splendid! Your hulijing citizens would love to see your fabulous fam! *fixing A-Yao's hat and hair* cutie pie.
Yao: *smiling*
Meng Shi: A-yi, if you're clueless about being a Wangzi, look at A-Song. He's a natural.
Jingyi: ok Nainai. I'll master it!! But I'll still talk shit.
Meng Shi: *laughing* so be it.
Yao: just be you.
Jingyi: of course! And I know you guys have a reputations, so I'll try to be on my best behavior.
Meng Shi: marvelous. And Song'er is here with you.He has adapted A-Yao's elegance, politeness and sophistication, and he's now moulded into a well respected Wangzi.
Rusong: *wraps his arm around his neck in a friendly way* yea dude. We'll have fun.
Meng Shi: so you're maybe very fond of Zewu Jun. He's Lan gui fei here, as he's married to A-Yao.
Jingyi: ahahahaha! Lan gui fei! Yes! But I like his brother, Lan Wangji!
Meng shi: oh. The guy who attacked my son.
*sarcasm* Lovely.
Jingyi: but he was awesome doing it! I aspire to be Hanguang Jun!!!......... I'm very sorry, Nainai.
You guys got bad blood with the lans.
Meng Shi: not quite. I like Lan gui fei and Madam Lan.
Jingyi: Madam who? Qiren had a wife????????
Rusong: no Jingyi. She's Qingheng Jun's wife. Lan wangji and Lan Xichen's mom.
Jingyi: huh. Guess I forgot. I'm mostly absent minded.
Yao: Song'er went to the cloud recesses for 5 years. But under private tuition under my Lan xichen. He used his Jin name, Jin Rusong. And he hid his hulijing identity and status.
Jingyi: riiigghhhtt!!! He used to hang with us, and Jinling would be overprotective just because he's his cousin.
Meng Shi: ohh. See, you know our Song'er.
Jingyi: yea. But I didn't know that he was a Wangzi.
Yao: lol. Well that was the plan.
To have him completely camouflaged.
~~
Afterwards, they went to A-Yao's secret room.
Jingyi: *sprinting all over the room, observing every relic* wowww!!!
Is that a hulijing weapon?! Are those razor guqin strings?! Talismans! Swords! This dagger?
Yao: I see you're very interested in my collections. And that dagger belonged to Wen Ruohan.
I have more daggars too.
Jingyi: can I touch them?
Yao: unfortunately no. They're spiritual weapons. You might get hurt.
Jingyi: do you trap fox spirits?
Yao: no. It's very inhumane.
Jingyi: *reading a manuscript* the way of a hulijing. Diedie! Can you turn me into a hulijing???
Yao: there's no need. And you're perfect just the way you are.
Jingyi: fineeee!!
Rusong, how aren't you astonished?
Rusong: I know everything here. Also I once fell asleep on A-Die's sofa.
Jingyi: cool!
What are those things on your desk?
Yao: maps of the empire, strategies and other things. Huangdi stuff.
*sits*
Have a seat guys.
Yao: other than defense strategies. I have some imperial stuff too. *takes a box from off the shelf and rests it on his desk.
Jingyi: what's that?
Yao: *opens* your guan.
Jingyi: is that gold and Jade?
Yao: mhm.
Wear this with your new outfit at the party.
Jingyi: oh heck yea! I'll be all dripped out!
But what do you mean new outfit? Do I have to go buy? Diedie I don't have money.
Rusong: *laughing slighly*
Yao: A-Yi, why are you so worried. Most of our clothes are custom made, and sometimes bought for us.
Jingyi: ohhh.
Yao: *opens another box* here's your ceal. It's for your protection, as it will prevent your energy from being sucked out.
Hulijings will identify you as their second Wangzi.
Also, it may grant you some abilities.
Jingyi: like?!
Yao: summoning hulijings.
Song'er has the same ceal, but since he's already a hulijing, he would give it to others he wishes to protect.
Rusong: yep.
Yao: everyone has a ceal.
Jingyi: interesting.
Yao: but don't misuse your power, Yi'er.
Jingyi: mn. I won't.
Yao: I believe that you would be responsible.
Now I must plan the party for tomorrow.
Jingyi: Diedie, will there be a chocolate fountain?
Yao: do you want one?
Jingyi and Rusong: YES!!!
Yao: well there will be a chocolate fountain.
Rusong: you're the best.
Jingyi: super awesome!
Yao: *smiles*
Both: *kisses him respectfully on his dimples*
Yao: you two will look really gorgeous in your new outfits.
Well the Mengs are known for being beautiful.
Jingyi: you got that right.
Rusong: well. Shall we go practice some things?
Jingyi: yea! I want to see how to be a Wangzi.
Let's go Rusong.
Rusong: mn. See you soon, A-Die. *smile*
Yao: yes. See you soon, Song'er.
Love you both.
~~~
Jingyi: ok Rusong, what's the first lesson!
Rusong: accessories.
Here's a fan.
Jingyi: uhh *awkwardly holding it* isn't this for women?
Rusong: no. It's for the gents too. I use it, A-Die uses it. And even Huaisang.
Jingyi: do I have to.
Rusong: yea, to convey elegance. And subliminal messages.
Jingyi: like?
Rusong: A-Die has fans that convey messages. Like for example, some of his fans have "peace*, "fruitfulness" and "splendor" written on them,
I also do the same.
Jingyi: that's awesome! Can I write F off on my fan?
Rusong: *laughing* no!
Jingyi: I find that would be hilarious.
Rusong: it kinda would be. But it's not the time.
Jingyi: got it!
Rusong: now lemme give you some more info.
Jingyi: all ears.
Crown Princes and Butterfly Wings (3/?)
Chapter 2 : Friendly Stranger
----
Our pair of adventurers becomes a trio, because neither Logan nor Roman have a clue what they're doing. At least now they have an expert on adventuring to help them out.
<- Previous | First | Next ->
@cutebisexualmess :)
----
Sorry about the lack of a chapter last week! It was Christmas, as I'm fairly certain most people are aware of even if they don't celebrate, so I was really busy. Not to mention I mass-posted nine chapters of a fic (go read it if you want, it's on my page) in three days and I didn't want to bombard people, so I kind of skipped a week with this one, haha. Oops.
----
Warnings: Roman is still kinda loopy at the beginning
----
"Roman?" The prince heard Logan yell from across the garden and seconds later the tiefling was in front of him, giving him a once over before turning to the person who had helped him. "What happened to him? Did you do this?"
"Wha- no! No, of course not!" they cried. "Is- is he your friend? He wasn't looking too good and he said to bring him to the fountain so I just-"
"Hey Logie," Roman said, only half aware of what he was saying. "I ate'a weird cake mmm- mn- now I'm here…"
Logan stared at him, baffled,  before sighing, and chiding him in a tone of voice Roman thought made him sound like a dad. "This is why we don't accept random food from strangers, you dunce."
"'m already feeling better though." Roman shrugged. "Thanks to glasses."
The person giggled. Roman could see them better now, they had curly dirty blonde hair and bright blue eyes, and they weren’t dressed nearly as classy as he or Logan were, but the puffy blouse and bluish-grey overalls made him look rather friendly, so Roman didn’t mind.
"I'm Patton!" he said with a smile. "Always happy to help!"
"Are you familiar with this area?" Logan asked him. "I believe it would be the best course of action to find somewhere to stay after this… incident.”
"Um- well I only just got here myself! But I need somewhere to stay too, so I'm sure we could look together?" Patton said, with a blinding grin. "There should be some kind of inn nearby, there always is!"
“Alright…” Logan said slowly. “I will- concede that you likely know more about this process than we do, so I will agree to going with you.”
“Um- cool!” Patton said, his smile not faltering in the face of Logan’s slight strange way of words.
“Logaaaan- your words are loopy,” Roman whined, “Talk normal for once.”
“I am simply talking formally, Roman, and you should aspire to do the same,” Logan chastised. Patton giggled.
“And you’re the one who’s loopy, mister,” Patton said before standing up and shifting a big backpack that Roman had completely missed before onto his shoulders. It was a pretty big pack, almost as big as Logan’s, this guy must be travelling too. Roman thought, “Anyways, c’mon, I think I saw an inn on the way over here.”
Roman tried to stand up before tripping over his own feet. The only reason he didn’t fall face first onto the paved path of the garden was Patton’s quick reflexes. He quickly righted Roman again, but this time he slung one of Roman’s arms around his shoulders and let the—much taller mind you—man lean on him.
“I can take him,” Logan offered as he watched Patton- not struggle, per say, but he did look slightly off balance.
“Don’t you worry.” Patton smiled. “I’m stronger than I look! And besides, you’re already carrying that big ol’ pack! I wouldn’t want to put more weight on you!”
“You calling me dead weight, glasses,” Roman slurred, while Logan muttered about the fact that Patton was also carrying a similarly sized pack.
“Of course not.” Patton laughed again, it almost felt like they were already best friends, like they’d known each other for years. “But you are pretty tall.”
“Comes with the high social class,” Roman giggled with a lopsided smile, obviously finding his own joke way more funny than it actually was in his state.
“Well that would explain why I’m so short,” Patton said. “Come on now, buddy, we gotta go.”
Together the three of them found the closest inn and Logan paid for Patton’s room as a thank you for rescuing Roman from his own shenanigans before they parted ways. Or, so they thought as Logan forced Roman to take a nap in their room while he busied himself studying the maps they had brought in an attempt to work out where they should go next.
—-
“Are you feeling well enough to discuss our journey?” Logan asked him as they waited for their food to be brought out. They were eating at the inn, because Logan didn’t trust him when he said he was fine enough for them to go and find somewhere nicer to eat.
“Yes,” Roman nodded. “I’ve told you already, Logan, after that nap I’m feeling better than ever!”
“Good, but please keep in mind your volume, we are in an unfamiliar space and I am not yet sure I have quite figured out the etiquette,” Logan told him quietly.
“You worry so much, Logan,” Roman said, rolling his eyes, but he did lower his voice, much to Logan’s gratitude.
“Thank you, now if you’re willing to be quieter about it,” Logan said, pulling out one of the maps he had been looking at before, “I would like to discuss the route we should take.”
“We have no idea where he’s going,” Roman said, looking at the map and then at Logan, “There are- hundreds of towns and villages in this kingdom, we can hardly search all of them.”
“No, you are correct we cannot,” Logan agreed. “It would take us years.”
“Then… what do we do?”
“I don’t suppose you remembered to bring anything with you that belonged to him, did you?” Logan asked slowly, “If so, I could perform a fairly simple tracking spell…”
Roman felt a little sheepish, why the hell hadn’t he brought something? It was obvious they needed a way to actually try and find Remus! It was true that it had been on the list Logan had given him and he just… hadn’t. Roman knew they had to find Remus—the Kings of this land may be his fathers, but that didn’t mean Roman could disobey orders—but then again… Remus was his brother, and he couldn’t just- do that to him. So… he’d just keep playing dumb, dumb was safe and didn’t want him to answer any complex moral problems.
“No I… forgot about that,” Roman said slowly, shaking his head. Logan sighed.
“Of course you did.” Logan shook his head. “There are more complicated spells that could be used, but almost all of them require an personal item… We may have to find somewhere that I can read up on magic spells. I know there are some that can do what we need… but I am unfamiliar with them.”
“H-hey um-” Roman jumped, looking up at the voice only to find Patton lingering a few steps away from the table, wringing his hands. He looked so nervous, looking down at the floor, Roman felt a little bad. “Sorry for- um- overhearing, but- but I heard you were looking for someone…”
“That’s true, though it is a private matter,” Logan said, eyeing Patton without turning his head, clasping his hands over the map that was still spread on the table.
“Oh! I completely understand!” Patton quickly assured, raising his hands. “I just- it’s… kinda obvious that you’re new to this- or you wouldn’t be talking about something private in a bar- but I’ve been travelling for the last- um- eight? years? So I thought I might have some advice you guys could use…”
“...Alright.” Logan nodded. “You said we shouldnt be talking here… is there somewhere better?”
“Aboslutely, if um- if you don’t want people hearing about whatever it is you’re doing, this is probably one of the worst places to be talking.” Patton chuckled. “Taverns and inns are the number one spot for gossip. If you want information, you come here, if we want to have a secretive conversion, we should go to your room, or mine- either way.”
“If that’s so,” Roman said, “I suppose we should continue this conversation once we have finished eating.”
“I didn’t mean to intrude on your dinner!” Patton yelped, stepping back. “I’m so sorry! You didn’t have any food, so I just assumed- I’m sorry for interrupting!”
“It’s alright,” Roman said immediately, and he noticed Logan relax from the corner of his eye, “You’re trying to help us, and you helped me earlier as well, I owe you.”
“No- no you don’t.” Patton shook his head. “I don’t expect anything in return! I just- I like helping people.”
“Still.” Roman shook his head with a smile. “Feel free to sit, if you’d like.”
Logan gave him a skeptical look and Roman just shrugged with a smile. He knew trusting strangers wasn’t a good idea (Logan had lectured him on it for fifteen minutes after they had left the castle) but Patton… Roman couldn’t help but like him. He was just so… friendly. But not just on the outside—Roman considered himself a fairly good judge of character and there was absolutely nothing about Patton’s niceness that seemed off in the slightest.
With an awkward smile, Patton pulled over a chair from the next table and sat down with them. Logan put away the map just as someone brought over their food and they ate in silence, with just the sound of other people having their own conversations in the background.
When they finished, Logan led Roman and Patton up the stairs and to the room they had rented for the night before taking out the map once again and laying it across the small table in the corner of the room. The three stood around it.
“Ok! So,” Patton started, looking at the map, “You’re looking for someone?”
“Yes.” Logan nodded.
“Can you, um, tell me who?”
“I’m pretty sure that’s supposed to be a secret,” Roman said with an apologetic smile. Logan glared at him.
“Of course it’s supposed to be secret, Roman, that’s the whole reason we’re here and not someone much more capable.”
“Alright, um, not knowing who we’re looking for might make things more difficult.”
“My brother,” Roman said slowly. “I can’t tell you much more than that, but we’re looking for my brother.”
“Does he look like you?” Patton asked, tilting his head.
“They are twins,” Logan said with a sigh.
Roman nodded, “But he has a silver streak instead of gold, and green eyes instead of red.”
Laughing made Patton’s eyes crinkle at the corners and Roman couldn’t help how it made him smile. “So you’re… opposites?”
“Pretty much, yes,” Roman said with a shrug.
“Ok, so if you’re looking for information, you’re going to want to go here,” Patton told them, pointing at the map. The town his finger pointed at wasn’t that far away, though it was distinctly separate from the capital. “Mirefeld is known for its gossip, they have a pretty big trade and travel route going straight through the village, if anyone knows something about your brother, I’ll bet it’ll be someone there.”
“Mirefeld…” Roman said slowly, before lighting up. “Oh! I’ve heard of that, aren’t uh- aren’t they known for being a big meeting place for crooks and thieves too?”
“I believe so,” Logan said, nodding, before looking suspiciously at Patton. “Why would you wish for us to go somewhere with such a reputation for crime?”
“They’re the ones with all the gossip,” Patton said with a shrug, “And usually they’ll leave you alone, especially if you’re careful. I go there often and I haven’t had a single penny stolen yet… It’s kind of like a safe haven, I guess. I’m not trying to trick you, I swear.”
“This town is at roughly a three days walk from here,” Logan said with a sigh. “We’ll have to set off early tomorrow if we want to head in that direction.”
“Walk?” Patton blanched.
“I am unable to ride a horse,” Logan deadpanned, gesturing to his own legs. “I am not built for such an activity, and I’m fairly certain we don’t have the funds to buy a carriage.”
Patton flushed and looked away. “R-right- um- yeah that makes sense, sorry.”
“There’s no towns between here and Mirefeld,” Roman pointed out, still looking at the map, “Where will we stay for the nights we’re on the road?”
“Well sometimes there's outposts…” Patton said, “but I don’t think there’s any on the way to Mirefeld.”
“I suppose that means we will have to sleep on the road, then,” Logan said, eyes narrowing. “Which means we’ll need to allow time to buy some equipment, which means we will likely not be leaving until the day after tomorrow.”
Patton burst out in laughter. “Wait- wait- you don’t- you don’t even have camping equipment? What on earth have you got in that big bag of yours?”
Staring, Roman watched as Logan’s cheeks went purple—the guy was blushing. Roman was pretty sure he’d never seen Logan blush, Roman could barely keep down a laugh. Patton didn’t seem to have the same control.
“I… have brought with me multiple spellbooks and supplies for said spells,” Logan said, his tone carefully steady. “As well as a few others that I have been meaning to read for recreational purposes, and of course I brought a few journals to write down everything we learn on our travels.”
Roman stared at him. “You brought a library and have the audacity to call me the dumb one?”
“Excuse you, I am undoubtedly smarter than you,” Logan said.
“Yeah well at least I thought to bring spare clothes.” Roman rolled his eyes. Patton laughed again as Logan went even more purple, and his- literal- constellation of freckles dimmed slightly.
“It’s alright,” Patton said. “We can go on a shopping trip tomorrow- um- that is- if you’re both ok with me coming with you? I don’t- mean to be presumptuous-”
“Patton,” Roman interrupted, “I understand you seem to be nervous around us, but we’ve already proved multiple times that neither of us have a single clue what we’re doing. I for one would be delighted to have someone who actually knows travelling etiquette with us for this journey, Logan?”
“I believe… your company would be… beneficial,” Logan said eventually, after seemingly much consideration.
“Ok! Great- um- I guess I’ll leave you both be, then?” Patton said, already backing away from them. “I’ll- I’ll see you both downstairs in the morning?”
“Indeed!” Roman said with a nod of his head. “Sleep well, friend.”
“Um- you too!” Patton called, before bolting from the room.
It was a few minutes after Patton left before one of them spoke. Honestly, Roman was surprised it was Logan.
“He is… odd.”
Roman couldn’t help but burst out laughing against “Oh my- goodness, I don’t think I’ve ever seen you blush so much! I need to get him to reveal his secrets!”
“Respectfully, your highness, shut up,” Logan said, before walking over to one of the beds and sitting down. Roman just grinned and winked at him. “Go to sleep, you fool, we have a lot to do tomorrow.”
“Yeah yeah, got it, Mr. ‘I’m going to bring a library on a travelling expedition,’” Roman said, before lifting his bag onto the bed and removing the nightclothes he had brought with him. He heard Logan scoff, but he was fairly sure it was fond.
Roman couldn’t help but smile as he settled down for the night. The bed was nowhere close to as comfortable as the one he slept in back at the palace, not even to mention that it was a single compared to his usual bed which was likely large enough to fit five people at a squeeze, but somehow he found that it really didn’t matter. He had spent the day in the city, hell he’d even made a friend—he was fairly certain he’d never made a real friend by himself since he’d befriended Logan, and even that wasn’t really his own doing. Logan was two years older than him and Remus, so they’d basically grown up together anyway.
His thoughts were getting off topic, but he’d made a friend, which was… amazing, in itself, and Patton was going to help them with their journey! So now their party was of three instead of two.
All things considered, this journey was shaping up to be an incredibly good one.
