Unveiling the Power of Online Auctions
Tumblr media
Online auctions have transformed the way nonprofits raise funds and engage with their supporters. In this blog, we will take a look inside online auction platforms and explore how they can change the game for nonprofit organizations.
Nonprofits rely on donations and grants to fund their programs and services. However, with the rise of online giving, nonprofits are finding new ways to engage with their supporters and raise funds. One such way is through online auctions.
Benefits of online auctions for nonprofits
Online auctions offer several benefits for nonprofits, including:
Increased reach: With online auctions, nonprofits can reach a wider     audience beyond their local community.
Lower costs: Online auctions eliminate the need for physical space     and reduce overhead costs associated with traditional auctions.
Increased engagement: Online auctions provide a fun and interactive     way for supporters to engage with the nonprofit and its mission.
Increased revenue: Online auctions often result in higher bids and     increased revenue for the nonprofit.
Tips for successful online auctions
To make the most of online auctions, nonprofits should keep the following tips in mind:
Choose the right platform: Each online auction platform has its own     features and pricing. Nonprofits should choose the platform that best     meets their needs and budget.
Set clear goals: Nonprofits should set clear goals for their online     auction, such as the amount of money they hope to raise and the number of     bidders they hope to attract.
Promote the auction: Nonprofits should promote their online auction     through their website, social media, and email list to reach a wider     audience.
Provide detailed descriptions: Nonprofits should provide detailed     descriptions of each item being auctioned, including photos, measurements,     and any relevant details.
Engage with bidders: Nonprofits should engage with bidders     throughout the auction process, responding to questions and providing     additional information as needed.
Conclusion
Online auctions have the potential to change the way nonprofits raise funds and engage with their supporters. By choosing the right platform, setting clear goals, promoting the auction, providing detailed descriptions, and engaging with bidders, nonprofits can make the most of online auctions and increase their revenue. If your nonprofit organization is looking for new ways to raise funds and engage with your supporters, online auctions may be the perfect solution.

The Benefits of Attending Specialty Auctions for Niche Collectibles
Tumblr media
Specialty auctions focused on niche collectibles offer unique opportunities for enthusiasts and collectors to acquire rare and specific items. These auctions cater to specialized interests, such as vintage toys, rare coins, or fine art, and can provide numerous advantages over general auctions. Here’s a closer look at the benefits of attending specialty auctions for niche collectibles.
1. Focused Selection of Items
One of the primary benefits of specialty auctions is the focused selection of items. These auctions are curated around specific types of collectibles, meaning that every item up for bid is relevant to the niche interest. This targeted approach allows collectors to find and bid on items that align with their specific interests, rather than sifting through a broad array of unrelated items.
2. Access to Rare and Unique Items
Specialty auctions often feature rare and unique items that may not be available in general auctions. Collectors seeking specific types of collectibles, such as limited-edition pieces or historically significant artifacts, will find these items more readily available in specialized settings. The concentrated nature of specialty auctions increases the likelihood of discovering rare finds that are not easily accessible elsewhere.
3. Expertise and Authenticity
Auction houses that specialize in niche collectibles typically have a deep understanding of the items they handle. This expertise translates into more accurate descriptions, thorough authentication processes, and knowledgeable staff. Collectors benefit from the assurance that items have been vetted for authenticity and value by experts familiar with the specific niche, reducing the risk of purchasing counterfeit or misrepresented items.
4. Competitive Yet Focused Bidding
Attending specialty auctions often means competing with fellow enthusiasts who share a similar passion. While this can create a competitive environment, it also means that bidders are more knowledgeable and genuinely interested in the items being auctioned. This focused competition can lead to more informed and fair bidding, as participants have a shared understanding of the item’s value and significance.
5. Networking Opportunities
Specialty auctions provide excellent networking opportunities for collectors and enthusiasts. Attendees share a common interest and often have valuable insights and experiences to exchange. Building relationships with other collectors, dealers, and experts can lead to future opportunities, such as private sales, collaborations, or access to exclusive events and information about upcoming auctions.
6. Preservation of Specialized Knowledge
Specialty auctions contribute to the preservation of specialized knowledge and the cultural significance of niche collectibles. By focusing on specific categories, these auctions help maintain and celebrate the history, artistry, and craftsmanship of unique items. This focus ensures that valuable and historically important items are recognized, preserved, and passed onto future generations of collectors.
7. Opportunities for Discovery and Acquisition
Attending specialty auctions opens up opportunities for discovering and acquiring items that might not be available through other channels. Collectors can explore a curated selection of items that may include hidden gems, exclusive pieces, or items with significant historical importance. The specialized nature of these auctions increases the chances of finding exceptional and hard-to-find collectibles.
In summary, attending specialty auctions for niche collectibles provides numerous benefits, including access to rare items, expert authentication, and focused competition. In Minnesota, auctions offer valuable opportunities for collectors to enhance their collections, network with fellow enthusiasts, and engage with specialized knowledge. By participating in specialty auctions, collectors can enjoy a more targeted and rewarding auction experience.

I was recently fortunate enough to win an auction for a piece of Wedding Peach merchandise I've been unsuccessfully trying to win online for years (at this point, literally decades) and it got me thinking about how lucky I am to not be starting my collection today.
Prices for all older, more obscure magical girl items have ballooned over the past ten years but Wedding Peach merchandise is definitely one of the worst offenders. It's not uncommon to see single manga volumes going for 10k yen, 20k yen or more for the picture books, and let's not even touch on the amount the toys go for (literally several thousand dollars a pop).
Tumblr media
In an ideal world we'd have better access to the series itself at least (the Japanese release of the DVDs and manga, for example, are in high demand due to the manga being out of print for something like 28 years and the DVDs being a relatively limited run from 25 years ago). I understand it's unlikely that we'll be getting more fun toys or merchandise for the series, but it is truly bleak when people can't even access the series itself.
This isn't some lost media type thing, this is just capitalism and it solidifies why I feel a sense of duty to ruin my own collection in order to archive what I have. If my house burns down or washes away in a flood, I truly don't think I can restart my collection and have a fraction of what I have now ever again. It's too expensive and too time-consuming, I simply don't have another 25 years up my sleeve to dig through every possible website to try and find scraps of 90s Ciao magazine issues.
Tumblr media
In that sense I feel like I should share what I have with others while I have the opportunity. Even if a teenager today falls for Wedding Peach like I did as a kid, they would need to be extremely wealthy to get these pieces together and I just don't think your ability to own the core of a series should come down to wealth alone.
Goodness knows I'm not wealthy and I had very little growing up, hence my collection took decades to get where it is now. I don't want people to have to endure all that just to see a picture book from 30 years ago or to see an obscure illustration from a Ciao paper bag given away for free in 1994.
The efforts of fans keep series like this alive long after most companies have dismissed their long term profitability (although I do see you Germany with your beautiful hardback manga editions and I thank you).
Not everyone wants to break down their collection for the benefit of others and I respect that (there are some things in my collection I don't want to pull apart either), but I appreciate the efforts of those who do and aspire to do better with my own archiving as I work to get Weddingpeach.net updated to celebrate 30 years of the manga series.

Hey there lovelies. I hope your Monday wasn't too crazy! I'm gonna keep it short tonight because I am nodding off.
I know sometimes we do things when we're not feeling very well that we regret. I know sometimes we get so far progress wise, but then we revert a little bit because the day was just too much. Sometimes we even say or do things that hurt others, even if we don't mean to, but it happens.
Just remember lovelies that that doesn't make you a bad person.
We all make mistakes. We are all human, and none of us are infallible.
You are going through so much. You are dealing with the stressors of the day, of the week, of the year, of the country, of the global climate, hell you're dealing with the stressors of keeping you and your loved ones fed, and clothed and sheltered, or maybe you're dealing with a physical ailment.
Whatever it is, you're dealing with A LOT. We all have bad days.
Making mistakes is how we grow. Give yourself some grace lovelies, you deserve grace too.
Anyway, that's enough out of me, goodnight crew, I hope your dreams are sweet, and your rest is full.

I'd like to hear about Truth Serum! It sounds interesting! 👀
Truth Serum started as a prompt from the kinkmeme, and has been languishing in my WIPs for over a year, but I dug it out recently. The idea is that Burgess tried a lot of things including magic, to compel cooperation from Dream. One of those was a spell that had real power behind it, but was incomplete- it required blood and Burgess was, of course, too chicken to actually ever touch him.
When Dream returns to the New Inn, Hob is so surprised and discombobulated that he cuts his hand on a broken glass and unknowingly completes the spell by getting his blood on Dream.
(Then of course they have to figure out how to Fix the Thing while falling in love, blah blah etc. )
"I do not know. Perhaps." Dream furrowed his brow, visibly attempting to remember. "It was not always possible to hear him clearly, through the glass of my prison. He read from a number of books and scrolls. There was one. Where the words had power. But felt incomplete."
"I suppose it would be too easy if you remembered which book,” Hob said wryly.
"It was. Blue."
Hob sighed. "Alright. Well, I actually have an idea."
--
Hob angled his laptop screen so that Morpheus could see it.
“I remembered seeing the obituary not long ago. Alex Burgess recently passed away after spending a few weeks in a mysterious coma.” Hob looked at his friend, but Dream just looked a trifle smug.
“No heirs; everything is online for estate auction. There are pictures of every item. I can sort just by books. And then, uh, i guess we will buy all the blue ones?”
“Is that something you are equipped to do?” Dream frowned.
“Well one of the benefits of long life is being able to accumulate wealth. And I’m known to have something of a penchant for historical books anyway. If they were still at the house, I’d suggest breaking and entering, but they’ll have been moved to an escrow service of some kind."
"It would be well to win those auctions, lest some other party lay hands on such vile magic,” Dream said. “But we need not wait to have them delivered.  Make a list of the names of the books and as much information as is available about each."
"And then what?"
"My librarian will handle the rest."

How to Prepare for Your First Auction: A Beginner’s Guide
Tumblr media
Attending your first auction can be both exciting and intimidating. Whether you're interested in antiques, art, or collectibles, being well-prepared can make the experience more enjoyable and successful. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you get ready for your first auction in Minnesota.
1. Understand the Auction Process
Before diving into the bidding process, familiarize yourself with how auctions work. Auctions involve a bidding process where participants compete to purchase items by offering increasing amounts. The auctioneer oversees the process, calling out bids and managing the flow. Understanding this basic structure will help you feel more comfortable and confident.
2. Research the Auction
Different auctions have different formats and focus. Start by researching the auction you plan to attend. Look into the type of items being sold, the auction house’s reputation, and whether it’s a live or online auction. Live auctions take place in person or via live feeds, while online auctions occur on dedicated platforms. Knowing these details will help you decide how to participate and what to expect.
3. Review the Catalog
Most auctions provide a catalog listing all the items up for bid. Review the catalog carefully to identify items of interest and gather information about them. The catalog usually includes descriptions, images, and estimated values. Take note of any items you’re particularly interested in and make a list of their lot numbers. This preparation helps you focus on your priorities during the auction.
4. Set a Budget
Establishing a clear budget is crucial. Determine the maximum amount you’re willing to spend, considering not only the item’s price but also additional costs such as buyer’s premiums, taxes, and shipping fees. It’s easy to get carried away in the heat of the moment, so having a set budget helps you avoid overspending and ensures you stay within your financial limits.
5. Register for the Auction
Most auctions require pre-registration. This process usually involves filling out a form and obtaining a bidder number or paddle. For online auctions, you may need to create an account on the auction platform. Completing registration in advance ensures you’re ready to bid when the auction begins and helps avoid last-minute issues.
6. Attend an Auction Preview
If possible, attend the auction preview. Previews allow you to examine items up close, assess their condition, and verify their authenticity. This hands-on experience is invaluable for making informed decisions. Use this opportunity to ask questions about the items and gather any additional information that might influence your bidding.
7. Develop a Bidding Strategy
Planning your bidding strategy is essential. Decide whether you’ll place your bids early to show interest or wait until the final moments to place a competitive bid. Incremental bidding—raising your bid in small steps—can help you stay within your budget while remaining competitive. Familiarize yourself with the auctioneer’s style and pacing to better gauge when to bid.
8. Understand the Terms and Conditions
Read and understand the auction’s terms and conditions. This document outlines important information about bidding procedures, payment terms, and item pickup or delivery. Knowing these details helps you avoid surprises and ensures you comply with the auction house’s requirements.
By following these steps, you can approach your first auction with confidence and increase your chances of a successful and enjoyable experience. Preparation and research are key to making the most of your auction adventure.

How To Identify Motivated Sellers For Cash Deals?
Tumblr media
Identifying motivated sellers for cash deals is crucial for securing favorable real estate transactions. Motivated sellers are those who are eager to sell their property quickly, often due to financial difficulties, life changes, or other pressing circumstances. Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to identify these sellers and capitalize on cash deals.
Leverage Public Records
Public records are a valuable resource for identifying motivated sellers. Look for properties with:
Tax Delinquencies: Owners who are behind on property taxes might be more willing to sell quickly to avoid further financial complications. Check local tax assessor websites for lists of delinquent properties.
Foreclosures: Properties in foreclosure are often owned by sellers who need to divest quickly. Foreclosure listings are available through local courthouse records or online databases.
Probate: Estates going through probate may involve motivated sellers, especially if heirs wish to sell inherited properties quickly. Probate records can often be accessed through county court websites or local probate courts.
Monitor Expired Listings
Properties that have been listed for sale but did not sell can indicate motivated sellers. These owners may have been unable to sell their property through traditional channels and might be open to cash offers. Review expired listings on real estate platforms and reach out to these owners to gauge their interest in a cash sale.
Network with Real Estate Professionals
Real estate agents, brokers, and property managers can be excellent sources of information about motivated sellers. Establish relationships with these professionals and let them know you are interested in cash deals. They often come across sellers who need to sell quickly and can provide valuable leads.
Direct Mail Campaigns
Direct mail can be an effective way to identify motivated sellers. Create targeted mailing lists based on criteria such as property tax delinquency, absentee ownership, or property condition. Send personalized letters or postcards offering to purchase their property for cash. Highlight the benefits of a quick and hassle-free transaction to attract sellers who need to sell urgently.
Drive for Dollars
“Driving for dollars” involves driving through neighborhoods and looking for signs of distressed properties, such as:
Overgrown Lawns: Indicates potential absentee owners who might be motivated to sell.
Boarded-Up Windows: Suggests properties that may have been abandoned or neglected.
Maintenance Issues: Properties in disrepair could belong to owners who are eager to sell to avoid further expenses.
Once you identify potential properties, research ownership information and contact the owners to discuss a cash offer.
Utilize Online Resources
Online platforms can provide insights into motivated sellers. Additionally, local real estate investment forums and social media groups can be sources of information about sellers who are eager to close a deal quickly.
Engage with Wholesalers
Real estate wholesalers specialize in finding motivated sellers and can be a valuable resource for cash buyers. Build relationships with local wholesalers who have access to properties from sellers in urgent need of cash transactions. Wholesalers can provide you with leads on potential deals before they become widely known.
Attend Foreclosure Auctions
Foreclosure auctions are a direct way to find motivated sellers. Properties being auctioned are typically owned by individuals facing financial hardship. Attending these auctions can give you access to properties where the sellers are looking for quick sales. Be prepared to act quickly and have your cash offer ready to capitalize on these opportunities.
Look for Divorce and Estate Sales
Divorce or estate sales often involve motivated sellers who need to liquidate assets quickly. Monitor local court records or reach out to attorneys specializing in family law or estate planning to identify potential sellers. These situations can often lead to urgent sales where cash offers are appreciated.
Conclusion
Identifying motivated sellers for cash deals involves leveraging various strategies, from utilizing public records and monitoring expired listings to networking with real estate professionals and employing direct mail campaigns. By staying proactive and using these techniques to sell your home for cash you can uncover opportunities for favorable cash transactions and secure profitable real estate deals.
