Well, it’s not quite a master’s thesis, but this is (the first of) a series of posts on why Catra and Adora are the best love story in the history of kids TV animation and maybe the greatest love story in the history of TV. This may in some ways be faint praise - romance on TV is generally not very good compared with books or movies. Often it’s just some will they/won’t they sexual tension that is defused by getting characters together and re-heightened by breaking them up. TV is full of nearly shark jumping pointless dramas like Sam and Diane (Cheers, holy fuck am I dating myself, though that was technically before my time), Ross and Rachel (Friends, which was no Cheers) etc, but also some less annoying couples like Ben and Leslie (Parks and Rec) or Amy and Jake (Bk99) who are mostly just kind of cute and fun. Other shows, like the X-Files, teased viewers for years with unresolved sexual tension. In kids shows most romances are, appropriate for their target viewers, mild, sweet relationships based more on self-conscious flirting and blushing than on complex and conflicted feelings or deep passions - which is pretty realistic when the characters are young teens or even mid-teens. Some of these relationships are really well done - Finn and Flame Princess, Dipper and Pacifica (yeah I ship them), the early stages of Katara and Aang (before the showrunners imbued this childhood crush with cosmic significance), Steven and Connie, etc. Catra and Adora, though, are different. Their love story is not a side plot or a sub plot, it’s the heart of the show. It isn’t a childhood crush, it’s a very messy and passionate relationship between two young adults. She-Ra is an emotionally complex lesbian romance just as much as it is a thrilling action/adventure show. Everything about their relationship is baked into the show’s plot, its themes, hell even its musical score. The dramatic tension between Catra and Adora is not the result of stretching out a flirtation for ratings, but a coherent dramatic arc that runs through the entire show. As Noelle said, he made Catradora so central that execs couldn’t take it out without ruining the show. And the show is better for it. In this series of posts I’m going to try to show why, as well as showing why She-Ra is such a fantastic love story.
First off, let’s talk about how Catra and Adora’s character arcs are foils for each other, and how they come together and apart through the series. This is actually a post that I’ve been working on for a while but I keep summarizing the show rather than cutting to the chase, so I’m not going to recite many plot points so much as sketch out what’s going on with the dramatic structure at the time. But also, let’s talk about what each character’s arc is saying, and how they are commenting on each other. Spoiler alert: Catra’s arc is a subversion and critique of stories of empowerment through ruthless self-assertion and revenge, while Adora’s arc is a subversion and critique of chosen one narratives and stories of self-denial and self-transcendence.
When the show starts, Adora and Catra are shown as rivals and friends - their first scene starts the recurring motif of them reaching out for each other as one of them dangles above an abyss, as well as establishing their flirtatious banter and easy camaraderie. We quickly learn that these two young women plan to conquer the world together. These scenes and later flashbacks show Catra and Adora as deeply enmeshed in each others lives, to the point where neither of them (but especially Catra) have clear identities outside of one another. There is so much genuine love on both sides before Adora leaves, but also resentment, envy and fear, especially on Catra’s side, as well as a protectiveness on Adora’s side that deprives Catra of her autonomy. They are both being abused by Shadow Weaver - Catra physically and emotionally, Adora emotionally. It wouldn’t be too much to say that Shadow Weaver holds Catra hostage to control Adora (this is why critiques that Adora abandoned Catra to be abused are actually kind of messed up, since they accept Shadow Weaver’s premise that Adora is responsible for what Shadow Weaver does to Catra). In addition, Catra and Adora actually see the world incredibly differently. Adora already sees the world in terms of right, wrong and her destiny to right wrongs - this is why it’s important for her to accept the Horde’s obvious lies - she couldn’t keep living if she didn’t. Catra, on the other hand, sees the world solely in terms of survival and personal loyalty - everything for her is about preserving herself and the person she cares about - Adora.
Then, when Adora finds the sword, she leaves because it’s the right thing to do. Catra doesn’t even have a concept of ‘the right thing to do’ being something she should care about, or perhaps, something she can care about as an irredeemably evil, awful fuck-up. So at Thaymor neither one understands where the other is coming from, and Catra and Adora begin to part. This is the first turning point in their relationship. Adora chooses duty over what she desires, Catra chooses to protect herself (such as she sees it) and nurse her sense of betrayal and abandonment.
Their relationship until Promise is a kind of weird Frenemy thing that is fascinating to watch and sold me on the show. Neither one wants to fully admit to themselves that the other is now their enemy, neither one has given up on changing the other’s mind. Each is furious at the other, and desperate to see her again at the same time. There’s a lot of heartache and just as much sexual tension, especially at Princess Prom. Both of them come alive when they fight each other (more about that in a later post). But they’re already growing apart - Adora embracing her destiny as She-Ra, Catra rising in the ranks for the Horde. Adora now has the purpose she always wanted, plus other friends and a sense of being chosen to do something great, while Catra now has power - the means to protect herself from people like Shadow Weaver as well as the vindication she had always been denied, and even the opportunity to beat Shadow Weaver at her own game.
The next turning point is Promise. Holy fuck, this episode. It’s an episode that is even more heartbreaking after you’ve watched the show because you know just how much worse things are going to get, and yet, it’s a necessary part of both of their character arcs. Even through season 1 Catra and Adora had remained very much enmeshed in each others lives in an increasingly fucked up way as they grew apart but refused to turn away from each other. Even though they aren’t -exactly- a romantic couple (Adora doesn’t recognize and acknowledge her feelings until the last episode of Season 5), Season 1 of She-Ra is one of the worst breakups I have seen on TV. As I said in a couple of previous posts, this is the kind of shit that the Mountain Goats write songs about. Everything that was poisoning their love for each other even before episode 1 bubbles to the surface and combines with them fighting on opposite sides of the war to make a truly fucked up situation. In the end, it’s Catra that makes the choice to turn away from Adora. This isn’t a -good- decision. It’s spiteful, and destructive, and based on an outright deluded understanding of their relationship (inspired by Light Hope’s manipulations and her own issues), but it’s in some ways a necessary decision. Catra has been so wrapped up in Adora for so long that she isn’t going to be able to figure out who -she- is without cutting Adora out of her life. And the same is true of Adora.
But each of them do this in about the worst way possible. Catra embraces destruction, ambition, manipulation and outright cruelty, turning the tactics of her abusers against them and against everyone around her. She first triumphs over Shadow Weaver and manipulates Entrapta into trying to corrupt Etheria itself. Meanwhile Adora ‘lets go’ and commits herself to the self-denying mantle of She-Ra. Over the next several seasons, their respective paths will nearly lead both Catra and Adora to their deaths (in the Season 4 finale).
For the next season (counting season 2 and 3 as one) Catra and Adora are still closely linked, but as enemies. Still, there’s more than enough flirtation between them (that ‘Hey Catra’ in the first episode of Season 2 is something else), and especially on Adora’s side we see her hold back with Catra, and often take responsibility for the harm Catra inflicts, just like she had when they were kids. Yet they still drift apart - after facing off every other episode in Season 1, they spend less and less time on screen together through season 2 and 3. Catra continues her ascent to power and descent into villainy while Adora becomes more of a stressed out mess as she takes the fate of the world and the wellbeing of everyone she cares about on her admittedly broad shoulders. Catra’s one moment of vulnerability is rewarded by Shadow Weaver’s betrayal and her exile, then Catra triumphs in ruthless badass fashion through sheer desperation and aggression. In the Crimson Wastes, we see Catra at her most independent, and she almost seems happy. But once Adora shows up and Catra hears about Shadow Weaver, she’s sucked back into the worst of her resentments, and she makes very clear that being happy is less important to her than making sure Adora is miserable.

This changes everything. Catra completely breaks with reality and tries to kill Adora, herself and the world rather than lose to Adora and Shadow Weaver (I do think it’s important to remember that she does that after Shadow Weaver nearly kills her). Catra betrays everyone around her when she exiles Entrapta, threatens Scopria and lies to Hordak. Then she flips the switch. When Adora tries to fix things, Catra fights to her own death to make sure that the world disintegrates with her. For her part, Adora fights first to understand what is wrong with the world and then to fix it. Finally she tells Catra that destroying the world is her choice and she has to live with it, decks her, and then sees her off with a death glare once the portal is closed. With this, Adora writes Catra off even if, as she says later, she never never hated her. By doing that, Adora casts off the guilt that had dogged her and takes responsibility for her own life rather than someone else’s - this is actually a huge step for her, and one that will become more important in Season 4.
Season 4 is in many ways the nadir of their relationship. They only see each other once during the entire season, in Fluterrina, when Adora tries to blast Catra, much to the latter’s shock. There’s a sense in that scene that Catra is trying to have the same flirtatious enmity she used to have with Adora, and Adora is having none of it. Catra almost seems hurt by this, which is an early hint at how isolated Catra is beginning to feel. Catra spends the rest of the season at her highest and lowest. On the one hand she spends most of 12 episodes winning by every standard she has ever claimed to care about, besting Hordak himself in single combat and making herself co-ruler of the Horde and coming within a day’s march of ending the Rebellion. In many ways it is the ultimate empowerment fantasy - the abused young woman has defeated her abusers, showed up everyone who doubted her and forced everyone to respect her. But I think it’s striking that the show starts with her and Adora dreaming of conquering the world together and in Season 4 Catra nearly succeeds in conquering it alone, almost like she was trying to live out her old shared fantasy while proving she didn’t need her former best friend.
At the same time, Catra is clearly miserable. She’s always been unhappy, but in Season 4 we see her completely isolated and lying to herself and everyone who will listen in a desperate attempt to justify her actions. Turning the tactics of Hordak and Shadow Weaver against them to gain power and then against Scorpia and Entrapta to maintain it haven’t vindicated Catra, they’ve made her more and more alone as Entrapta is exiled and Scorpia drifts away. Meanwhile Catra reaches out to Double Trouble, and her interactions with them reek of a kind of desperate desire to have someone in her life (the feeling of their interaction is of an unhealthy casual relationship where one partner becomes emotionally invested and the other takes advantage of that while denying the other the closeness they desire). As people leave her, one after the other, it becomes clearer and clearer that Catra doesn’t want power at all - she wants connection, friendship, love, and power is a very poor replacement. As I said in my long Catra rant, Season 4 is both her ‘Walter White as a Catgirl’ season and the beginning of her redemption. Everything comes to head when Sparkles destroys everything Catra has tried to achieve, Double Trouble delivers those harsh truths and Horde Prime shows up and makes it all irrelevant, just highlighting how futile all her struggles and sacrifices and crimes have been.
Meanwhile Adora spends Season 4 becoming her own her and her own woman. After telling off Catra, she grows more and more disillusioned with Light Hope and critical of Glimmer (though the latter has more than a shade of her old habit of taking responsibility for others - Adora’s development is not linear). She’s gained the courage and confidence to strike out her own path, not just follow a destiny. At the season’s end she once again breaks with her best friend to do what is right, and discards the destiny that she was being prepared for. But in this case she isn’t chasing one packaged destiny for another, instead she’s making her own choice and literally shattering the thing that she thought gave her life purpose. It’s badass, and heartbreaking, and along with decking Catra and jumping after Catra into the abyss (see below) it’s the perfect Adora moment.
In many ways Season 5 starts with Catra and Adora farther apart than they have ever been. They aren’t even enemies anymore, they’re completely out of each other’s lives. And both Catra and Adora are lost at the beginning of Season 5 - Catra is useless and alone on Prime’s ship, completely defeated despite ostensibly being on the winning side, and she goes through the motions of her normal plotting without any particular conviction and none of her normal flair. Meanwhile Adora is even more miserable and self-destructive than usual, throwing herself at Horde Bots and working herself until she drops of exhaustion. In a very real way they both stay lost until they have a chance to help the other. Catra takes responsibility for what she’s done and what she can do, saves Glimmer (at least partly for Adora’s sake), apologizes to Adora, and sacrifices herself. Adora only seems to come alive when she decides to turn around, face Prime, and save the cat. And when she does, Catra and Adora’s arcs, which had separated so completely in season 4, come crashing back together to end the series.
Adora during Save the Cat is such a contrast with the uncertain, hesitant and self-destructive wreck we’ve seen so far in Season 5. This is possibly her craziest plan in 3 years of mostly cazy plans, but she never wavers or questions herself. Even when Chipped Catra appears and we see Adora’s heart break while we watch, Adora doesn’t back down or relent. She keeps at it even as the tears stream down her face. She fights better trying to save Catra without She-Ra’s powers than she fought at the Battle of Bright Moon with them. Catra’s just about as desperate - we see her cry and plead, and now is probably as good a time to any to point out how amazing a job both VAs did throughout the show, but especially in this episode, and how good a job the board artists did.
Seeing each other for the first time in a year, and only the second time since Catra blew everything up, Catra and Adora are probably the rawest and least restrained we’ve ever seen them. There’s barely any banter, no bravado, and no pretense that they are anything other than two women who desperately need each other (Prime doesn’t help with ‘You broke my heart’.) Then Catra is flung to her death, Adora jumps after her, breaks both her legs in the fall (we see her crawl to Catra, as though she couldn’t walk) and becomes the real She-Ra. It’s such a triumphant and deeply queer moment seeing a woman transformed into a warrior goddess to protect the woman she loves, and it’s the reason that, as dark as it is, Save the Cat is my Comfort Food episode.

Let’s not sleep on Taking Control, though. This episode is like a microcosm of what this show does best, especially the A plot with Catra and Adora. Catra’s reversion to lashing out at everyone and her refusal to be open to Adora shows just how much of a struggle this whole ‘being good and trying to connect to people’ thing is. Catra’s outburst gives Adora a chance to stand up for herself and refuse to be Catra’s punching bag, while also not trying to control her. Adora’s ultimatum gives Catra a chance to reach out to Adora (quite literally), and allow herself to be vulnerable. In this episode, we see just how far Catra and Adora have come since the messed up stew of their relationship in Season 1. Adora lets Catra be responsible for her own actions; Catra lets herself be vulnerable to Adora and takes responsibility for her actions. They’re both better people and better friends and better partners than they were, and the show has shown this in a strikingly nuanced and realistic way.
The important thing to note in the next few episodes of Season 5 isn’t just how much closer Catra and Adora get to each other and how much they flirt (So much. So much, y’all) but just how -happy- they are. We see both of them transformed in the other’s presence. Basically, since they’ve parted, both Catra and Adora have been defined in no small part by how miserable they often are. They have both had their triumphs and their lighter moments, but there’s been a sense of melancholy dogging both Catra and Adora since episode 1. And now that they’re together again, that lifts, somewhat. Catra’s verbal barbs have lost their venom, and she can openly show how much she cares for Adora and even Bow and Glimmer. She’s still herself - snarky, cynical, somewhat devious - but she’s not engaged in a self-destructive zero-sum struggle with everyone around her. Meanwhile Adora has spent 4 seasons being a neurotic and sometimes nearly joyless mess who takes responsibility for everything and often doesn’t let herself enjoy anything other than the odd BFS group hug (exceptions include trying to uh...impress Huntara and reveling with the butterfly ladies of Elberron in Flutterina). Around Catra, though, she’s a cocky, swaggering jock who gives as good as she gets. It’s a side of Adora we’ve only seen hints of before, and one that’s so much more confident and joyful even as the world is ending around her. Apart, Catra had tried to protect and vindicate herself with power and conquest, while Adora had tried to forget herself in duty and sacrifice. Together, they can be themselves again. This dynamic is crucial to the show’s portrayal of Catra and Adora’s romance because it doesn’t just show how much they love each other, but how they’re -good- for each other now that they’ve grown as people, and that they are so much better than they were when they were apart.

Until Shadow Weaver shows up. Their old abuser reintroduces tensions but even then things are different than they were. Now Catra isn’t just resentful of how Shadow Weaver prefers Adora - she’s protective of Adora, which is clearest in Failsafe when she calls Shadow Weaver out for being willing to sacrifice Adora. And while Adora takes the Failsafe, it isn’t to follow her destiny or because she has a death wish - it’s because she loves her friends, and she is the only one who has any hope of doing this and living (though Catra’s suggestion that Shadow Weaver take it is a good one). And finally, when Catra leaves Adora, it isn’t because she hates Adora, nor, despite what she says, is it because she really thinks that Adora chose Shadow Weaver. At least, not exactly. It’s because Catra loves Adora, and can admit that to herself, and can’t stay around and watch the woman she loves sacrifice herself rather than choosing Catra. Before Catra leaves, she asks Adora ‘What do you want?” It’s a question that echoes Shadow Weaver’s speech in Episode 1: ‘isn’t this what you always wanted since you could want anything?’ As much as Adora has grown as a person, and defined herself and stood up for what she thinks is right, she still has never answered that question - it’s never been ‘what do I want’ but ‘what do I have to do?’ and that’s how Adora answers Catra’s question. This is Adora’s last gasp as a self-transcending hero, letting go of what she wants (not that she ever dared articulate what that was) in order to do what must be done. And it nearly kills her and dooms the universe, because Adora can’t be the hero that she needs to be by being anyone less than herself.
But it’s losing Catra that inspires Adora to tell off Shadow Weaver for good (not that she’d ever really warmed to her after season 1). And it’s love for Adora that inspires Catra to stand up to Shadow Weaver and demand that she do the right thing. In both cases, Catra and Adora aren’t just standing up to their abuser, but holding her to account for the harm she’s caused, and it’s the love that they have for each other that inspires them to do this. In Catra’s case in particular her refusal to let Shadow Weaver weasel out of finding Adora is a much greater triumph over Shadow Weaver than beating her up and breaking her mask in Season 1 - it’s proof not so much to Shadow Weaver but to Catra herself that Catra really is better than this and that she deserves better than this. It’s not turning her abuser’s tactics against her, but truly holding her to a moral standard and demanding that she do the right thing.
And then there’s Catra and Adora together at the heart. Catra has already come back for Adora and stayed to the end, choosing to die with her even if she can’t share a life together (not out of some death wish, but because Adora needs her). And Adora, who’s been avoiding answering the question for three fucking years, finally let’s herself want Catra when Catra finally confesses her love (breaking the last of her self-protective shields) and asks Adora to stay -for her-. And by admitting what she wants, Adora can truly be at peace with herself and be the hero she needs to be, lesbianism saves the universe, The End.
So anyway, that’s how Catra and Adora’s stories are woven together and how they compliment and comment on each other. Narrativiely, Adora and Catra start together, come apart, find something of themselves, and truly find themselves and each other when they are reunited. Thematically, they are critiquing seemingly opposing narrative tropes - empowerment narratives and narratives of self sacrifice. But by showing the flaws in both types of story and showing how neither self-seeking empowerment nor self-negating self sacrifice can actually make us happy, She-Ra asks and answers more profound questions than most prestige dramas for adults do. I’ll get into how the show sells the idea that the power of love can bring us happiness (and save the world) in a future post. But next up, I’m going to celebrate just how much Catra and Adora’s relationship revels in ambiguity, complexity and contradiction and so tells a grown up love story in a kid’s show.

Our 10 Favorite Music Moments From Euphoria Season 2

Photo: HBO
Another season of Euphoria has come and gone, and people are still shocked by the dramatic events of season two. We saw the characters go through betrayal, growth, self-destruction; we even got an iconic dance number starring everyone's favorite underappreciated boyfriend, Ethan. (Yes, I'm an Ethan stan. He deserved better.)
Anyway, this season's soundtrack didn't fail in acting as a carefully curated vehicle to move the story forward sonically. Below are our top ten favorite music moments of Euphoria Season 2.
Billy Swan - "Don't Be Cruel"
The season opens with an unexpected flashback of Fez's childhood. His gunslinging grandmother marches into the strip club and shoots Fez's father in the pelvis. When she walks back to the car, the line, "Baby, it's just you I'm thinkin' of," plays on the radio as she tells a bruised and battered Fez that he's going to live with her now, away from his cruel and abusive father, and kicking off the fate that is to befall our favorite, loveable drug dealer.
Orville Peck - "Dead of Night"
youtube
In the first episode, Nate drives Cassie to the New Year's Eve party. Unfortunately, he speeds up to 100mph, and as a result, she spills her drink all over herself. Nevertheless, the tension between them builds, leading to them getting together behind Maddy's back. "Dead Of Night" is about a whirlwind romance that ultimately ends in tragedy, foreshadowing what's to come.
Gerry Rafferty - "Right Down the Line"
The song, which was featured in the official trailer, makes two distinct appearances this season. In episode one, the song plays when Rue and Fez are told to strip by Laurie and company. In episode two, it plays when Rue ditches dinner with Jules to do drugs with Elliot. "Right Down The Line" is a mellow and vulnerable song that describes how Gerry feels about his lover. Gerry suffered from alcoholism for most of his life, and in the song, he praises his lover for helping him through the dark times in his life, saying she is the only one he can "lean on."
Lil Xan and Noah Cyrus - "Live or Die"
While in a somewhat comatose state, Nate fantasizes about Cassie and the life they could have together. The montage includes scenes of a pregnant Cassie and her subsequently giving birth. Given that this song is sung by a couple that didn't last, it only foreshadows just how doomed this toxic relationship is from the start.
INXS - "Never Tear Us Apart"
youtube
After their high school graduation, Cal and Derek seek shelter from a storm in a gay bar. After a fair share of drinks, the two best friends dance with each other, culminating in them giving into their repressed desires and ultimately kissing. But unfortunately, this is Euphoria and lovers do get torn apart once Cal finds out that his girlfriend and future wife, Marsha, is pregnant.
Bobby Darin - "Call Me Irresponsible"
While high, as per usual, Rue lip-syncs and dances around her house with a pillow to the appropriately named song, making a mess in the process.
Ben E. King - "Stand By Me"
In episode six, Fez and Lexi watch the ‘80s classic Stand By Me and sing along to the song. Lexi later talks about the play that she's poured her heart and soul into, lamenting over everything she couldn't say to everyone's faces and wonders if it may do more harm than good. Fez reassures her that no one will have a problem if the stage production is anything like the movie.
Bonnie Tyler - "Holding Out For A Hero"
youtube
It only makes sense that Lexi incorporated this ‘80s hit into her play. Kat's ex-boyfriend Ethan, who single-handedly played most of the characters in the play, lip-synced his heart out to this hilarious and entertaining homoerotic dance number, earning himself a standing ovation for his performance. Ethan proves what we knew all along; he truly is a hero.
Dominic Fike (written by Zendaya and Labrinth) - "Elliot's Song"
The touching scene shows Elliot apologizing to Rue for worsening her addiction issues and betraying her by telling Jules and Rue's mom Leslie that she had been using. As part of this apology, he sings a song he's "still working on" for her, accompanying himself on guitar. It’s a tender, heartbreaking send-off to a friend.
Zendaya and Labrinth - "I'm Tired"
This grand, church-inspired song is ethereal yet grounded. In episode four, a high and emotionally and mentally exhausted Rue is caught in a surrealistic memory of her late father and walks through church doors, passing by an entire congregation. At the front of the imaginary church stands Labrinth himself, singing "I'm Tired," a song he co-wrote with Zendaya and Levinson. The singer then transforms into her father, and she cries and apologizes for not being a good person. In the finale, Rue shares in the closing narration that she stayed clean the rest of the school year and wants to continue working towards being a good person.

top three ships: hmm these days I’m not sure. Ian+mickey for sure, brittany and santana forever of course, and maybe monica and chandler/ leslie and ben for some het love. for non canon it’s probably dean and cas before it was ruined by the actors, it’s truly a soulmate romance between them.
top three shows: is the most difficult category ever. I love everything. I used to say all shows starting w s: spn, shamey, (the) society, skam and stranger things + ofc friends and parks n rec. I am for sure forgetting all my favorites as well.
I won’t tag anyone, but please tag me if you do one - I’d love to see!

Ship game
Rules: Movie/TV ship questions, no repeats, answer with a gif. (I couldn’t make my own, but I’ve credited below.)
Honored to be tagged for this by the fabulous @nevertothethird and my wonderful meme partner, @lavellenchanted. Let’s talk ships!
1. First Ship ↳ Jack/Sue, Sue Thomas FBEye
This show used to air at random times on my local UPN station and I was - completely inexplicably - wild for it. My best friend and I would call each other frantically if we happened to catch it when it was on. A big part of my interest? This very chaste pair of coworkers who wanted to be something more! (Gif via @suethomasfbeye)
2. First OTP ↳ Buffy/Angel, Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Cannot tell you how completely gone I was for this ship for essentially all of high school. Was it the soulmates aspect? The Yearning™ because they couldn’t be together? Their sweetness and encouragement toward each other, the way they relied on each other despite everything? My enormous thing for David Boreanaz? (It couldn’t have been my total 😍 for the symbolism of the cross burned into Angel’s chest in 1x07 - I was not astute enough to appreciate it until later.) Regardless, I spent much of driver’s ed when I was 16 writing a full on treatise about how they were meant for each other. Still do not drive, but they’re still with me, so I think I took care of the important stuff. (Gif via @buffysummers)
3. Current Fave Ship ↳ Elizabeth/Henry, Madam Secretary
It’s not a huge surprise that I got into this show, considering my love of The West Wing and my past as a college aged Good Wife fan, but I was shocked at how absolutely wonderful this ship was. I’m always here for functional married couples, and they are a prime example of believing in each other, having complementary values, communicating, and sticking together through everything. I’m about it. (Gif via @beautifuldisastr)
4. Your Ship Since the First Minute ↳ Booth/Brennan, Bones
I purposefully picked a gif from the first Bones episode I ever watched (2x04, The Blonde in the Game) because from the second they walked through those woods arguing about the possibility of having a pig for a pet, I was gone for them - and they didn’t even get together for another four seasons. The show shifted tone in later years in a way that I wasn’t totally on board with, but at the core, their bickering and chemistry and rock-solid partnership remained a draw for me. (Gif via @becauseyoulovemebb)
5. Ship You Wish Had Been Endgame ↳ Mary/Marshall, In Plain Sight
Y’all. It makes no sense that these two didn’t end up together. I rewatched somewhat recently and liked Abigail much better this time around, but these two had a best friendship that was extremely obviously a romance, and they passed it over to stick them with random others. (Gif via @browncoatgrl221b)
6. Ship You Wish Was Canon ↳ Sam/Ainsley, The West Wing
The idea of the principled Republican doesn’t exactly carry the same meaning these days, but I’m with Aaron Sorkin: not keeping Emily Proctor on West Wing was a huge mistake. Watching these two characters walk and talk through disagreeing on nearly everything and still managing to be friends of a sort is an unexpected joy of any rewatch. (Gif via @donnajosh)
7. Ship that Most of the Fandom Hates, but You Love ↳ Rory/Logan, Gilmore Girls
I’m not completely alone in shipping them, but Jess is definitely the more popular Rory boyfriend and Logan gets a LOT of hate. And in some ways I get it, but my heart belongs to these two beautiful messes who filled my life with adorable moments of banter and affection as they learned to be in a relationship. (They were also a candidate for “different storyline” - where was my revival non-cheating media power couple, Palladinos? Where was it?????????) (Gif via @rosedatlantis)
8. You Don’t Even Watch the Show, but You Ship It ↳ Jim/Pam, The Office
Mike Schur is my guy, but The Office has always been too awkward for me to handle. Still, if I ever force myself to watch, getting to see these two will have been a big factor in the decision. They look adorable, and history has shown that I’m wild for a sweet Schur relationship! (Gif via @bymine)
9. Ship That You Wish Had a Different Storyline ↳ Dawson/Casey, Chicago Fire
Part of the reason their relationship turned out the way it did was because of behind the scenes real world stuff, but I would have absolutely loved for Dawson to stick around and for them to figure out their issues (and maybe even eventually build a family). Also for them to have gone through just a touch less Drama™! My brother was recently binging the show and as I watched over his shoulder I found that I didn’t remember about 400 fairly large obstacles and random soap opera plots they added in for them. (Gif via @jayhalsstead)
10. Fave Ship That’s Endgame ↳ Steve/Peggy, MCU
It’s gotta be them, ya know? It was in the prompt. I’ve been extremely #blessed to have a lot of endgame or at least canon ships (Ben/Leslie from Parks and Rec? Matt/Julie from Friday Night Lights? Parker/Hardison on Leverage? Logan/Veronica on Veronica Mars since they got married and lived happily ever after and nothing else? Jake/Amy from Brooklyn 99? DON/SLOAN ON THE NEWSROOM??????), but the surprise and delight of these two finding their way back to each other? Unparalleled. A joy. 10000/10. (Gif via @onscreenkisses)
I’ll tag @mediocre-mee, @sisforsammi, @nightlocktime, @thesokovianaccords, and anyone else who wants to do it!
#Leah memes#really reflecting my homegrown functional pairing values here#you know that post about how great vanilla relationships are? that's me#bore me with sweet affection and supportiveness!!!

Just want to throw in in response to your big J/A post that I'm a man who watched Community from my teen years into my 20s and was never a big "ship" person and I was 100% into J/A. The show played it as the main pairing. It was like Leslie and Ben or Eric and Donna or Jim and Pam. Everyone I know who watched the show viewed it like that. Dan Harmon always acted like it was way weirder than it was, which is weird in and of itself because isn't his wife like 15 years younger than him?
I think Dan Harmon is not big on romance in general, he went with J/A because they had the best romantic chemistry out of everyone and that kept people interested - I’m also fine with the way the ended them in S6 and I also understand why show runners (ever afraid of the moonlighting curse) don’t want to commit to getting will-they-won’t-they couples ever properly together (I mean, Chris Carter arguably blew the entire latter seasons of X-Files on just not committing to a committed Mulder/Scully pairing with ended up being downright comical because the story went against everything that these characters had grown into).
But what I don’t get and what annoys me, is playing audiences for fools. Harmon is trying to cover his bases retroactively in that interview to keep the pearl-clutchers appeased while still reaping the views and the “revenue” from using J/A as a main romantic focus of the show. And even that I understand - but he could just be honest about it. That would make the pearl-clutchers angry tho, so here we are. With people who enjoy the pairing which, (and you’re the best example) aren’t just juvenile “shipper”-girls, getting the boot and a bad rep.
I’m tired of that thing in particular but Harmon’s far from the only creator who operates this way - putting blame on largely female fan-groups who care about the human interactions and relationships of the characters for being “too invested”, while simultaneously joyfully taking their money and enthusiasm and catering outside of the material to the largely male audience members who complain loudly about everything else, assuring them that the dumb relationship-stuff is useless anyway. Only it’s not because obviously, it works. Shippers make or break shows, shippers help save shows. If all the “dumb little girls” stopped watching and interacting and tweeting and being invested, many, many shows never make it longer than a season. That’s why Britta exists. They put a will-they-won’t-they couple in the PILOT because it works. The least they could do is respect the people who are invested in things they put in the show to make it successful and not trash them for it. Or essential call all of them “young women who fantasise about older men”.
And it bugs me in the case of Community and that interview because the show wasn't ambiguous about J/A in the end. Hell, even Harmon wasn’t. His commentary of both the finale and the season 5 finally explicitly states that they love each other. I don’t understand why he feels the need to walk back on that now just because a couple people need to be woke about age differences.

Tagged by @gorogues, thank you!
Can you think of three images that are recurring elements in your writing? Are they symbolic of something? What do these images mean to you? Do you have any memories/connotations tied to them?
Hmm, I think this will wind up being less “images,” and more about common themes that pop up in my writing. Because I don’t think I repeat specific images all that often.
1. Friendship. A lot of my favorite characters are minor bad guys, not so much on the genocidal world-ending scale, more on the bank-robbing (and occasional murder) scale. They also tend to be part of groups and teams, like the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and the Flash Rogues. Basically, I like watching these characters interact and get along and be nice to each other. That doesn’t mean that everything is peaches and cream, and that they never fight. In fact, I imagine them fighting quite frequently. But I like seeing these characters pal around, fight and make-up (and maybe come to understand each other better), and generally have each other’s backs, like a found family. it’s a side we don’t see as often in the comics. A couple of my favorite ships, namely Trickster (James Jesse)/Pied Piper and Pyro (St. John Allerdyce)/Avalanche are romances that grow out of friendships. And it’s honestly not even about just wanting to see them bang (in fact, I haven’t written any explicit sex fic for either of those ships, although some day I might), it’s about wanting them to have this strong sense of closeness and love for each other. Which of course, you could still have platonically, and I can enjoy “friendship fics” about my favorite ships just as well. I think maybe I ship some of these pairings because I want them to be the most important thing in each other’s lives, without a different romantic partner gumming up the works. Or maybe because that’s a kind of romance that I find ideal - this very close friendship easily transitioning into romantic love rather than “these two people are physically attracted to each other, and spend the next several seasons being stupid and angsty about it.” I like the Ben Wyatt/Leslie Knope type romance - “I like you and I love you.”
2. Detailed back stories - A lot of my favorites are also fairly minor characters, and as such, aren’t always super-well developed (especially depending on who is writing them). And I tend to put a lot of details into my stories, even when I don’t intend to. I can’t just have Hartley find James in his apartment in the morning, I have to say what kind of cereal they are eating and what they are watching on TV. I have so many useless head-canons about Blob and Toad playing Animal Crossing, and Pyro watching Australian soap operas and Avalanche trying to breed orchids in his spare time. Do you want to know Pyro’s opinion on Vegemite? Well, too bad, I’m gonna tell you anyway. I also like making reference back to older stories in the comics (unless I completely disagree with the portrayal, in which case I just blithely ignore canon.)
3. Characters disagreeing without either being entirely wrong. This is kind of a new thing, since I’ve been exchanging a lot of RP asks with @sebastianshaw, which is mostly my version of Pyro interacting with her version of Sebastian Shaw. And they hate each other. They clash in almost every little ficlet I write. But Sebastian Shaw is not just a strawman for wrong opinions, he’s an interesting and complex character (especially the way @sebastianshaw writes him), who is ruthless and callous, but also intelligent and competent. Shaw is cruelly observant, and his opinions about Pyro, although overly dismissive and condescending, are not entirely wrong. Pyro can be needlessly argumentative and hostile (he generally finds something nasty to say to Shaw in every interaction), but he also often has a point. I don’t know why I enjoy writing this. Maybe because it often doesn’t sit right with me when one character gets portrayed as a complete unreasonable monster, even though we actually need a few unreasonable monsters to be good villains in the comics. Or maybe because I tend to be non-confrontational and dislike arguing in real life. So I get my cathartic release writing as a loud-mouthed, opinionated Australian pyrokinetic who disagrees with everything Shaw says.
Extra bonus theme: Dumb, goofy characters being more competent than portrayed, but still being dumb and goofy. One of my pet peeves in comics is characters like Trickster (who is an engineering genius) and Pyro (canonically a former journalist and author) being portrayed as complete idiots. I like to show them (and others like Blob and Toad, who also don’t get much respect) being intelligent and thoughtful. But then I also like to show them being hilarious dumb-asses because it’s more fun that way. Like I’d actually enjoy Marauders Pyro if he was given a few moments of intelligence and sophistication to go along with his stupid face tattoo and new penchant for biting people. It’s a fine line!
Extra extra bonus theme: Everyone is gay. I think I head-cannon a lot of my favorite characters as some form of LGBT (or I’m open to imagining them that way, if I don’t directly head-canon it.) There are a few faves that I still imagine as straight, but not that many. Maybe because we still don’t get a huge amount of canon LGBT content, so it’s a matter of wanting what I can’t have? Maybe I just want the widest possibility of ships? Maybe I just want to imagine two guys banging - although again, I don’t actually write a lot of pure sex fic, and I do the same for female favorite characters. And I do this even for characters that I don’t have specific favorite ships for, like the Riddler or Loki or Rachel Summers.

A Decade In Ships
The decade is ending and with it so are many of my favorite shows, couples, and fandoms.
Here’s a countdown of the loves that got me through the last ten years 🖤
10. Olicity
When I first started to see sparks between Oliver and Felicity I figured it was wishful thinking. Oliver seemed too caught up with the Lance sisters to notice the incredible woman under his nose. That is until the epic Season 2 finale when Oliver surprises everyone by declaring his love for Felicity, not Laurel.
9. Bughead
What can I say? I love when the nice girl picks the bad boy. Jughead is the heart of Riverdale and Betty’s love for him is what keeps the show grounded even when Archie is off in Canada being a 17 year old park ranger and fist fighting a grizzly bear 🤷🏻♀️
8. Choni
Speaking of Riverdale, it’s impossible not to be in love with the chaotic, sexy, devoted love between Cheryl and Toni. Thank you Riverdale for letting this lesbian love story be as romantic, dramatic, and sexual as any of the het ones on the show.
7. Deckerstar
O.M.G. Lucifer and Chloe are the ultimate slow burn ship and I am living for it. There hasn’t been a burn this good since Booth and Bones!!!
6. Leslie x Ben
Holy crap these two epic, nerdy, sweet, beautiful, perfect, powerful musk oxen...Ben and Leslie are everything. The kind of love we all want and deserve.
5. TomTom
So, normally I am VERY anti shipping real people but Tom Schwartz and Tom Sandoval lean into their ship so hard they named a restaurant after it. If they can love the love then so can I! Tom and Tom have the purest, sweetest, craziest friendship and they aren’t afraid to let the lines get a little blurred in the name of fun and ratings.
4. FinnPoe
Even Oscar Isaac knows these two belonged together. They had a bond forged in battle, in finding themselves and their purpose. The way they look at each other is everything. Finn was looking for a light at the end of the tunnel and he found Poe, a hot shot resistance fighter who gave Finn a way out and a way forward.
3. Spuffy (comics)
The Buffy comics expanded on the TV show in such an incredible and valuable way. They had some ups and downs but the character development was undeniable. Buffy and Spike created a real bond based on trust, friendship, partnership, and genuine affection. They fell in love with one another slowly and truly in a way they never could have before. They talked openly about their issues and worked through them.

2. Jamie and Claire
Wow. Wow wow wow. What a love story. What a pair! Jamie and Claire have a love that spans lifetimes. Their passion, commitment, and determination to find one another no matter the odds is beyond romantic. It’s soul affirming. Even after 20 years apart they pick up like it’s the very next day. There could never be anyone else for either of them and that’s so amazing to read and watch.
1. Delena
“You want a love that consumes you”
This ship consumed me. Damon and Elena were endgame from the very first second of the very first episode and there was never any other choice for either of them. Season 3 will forever be one of the best seasons of TV in the last 10 years. It perfected the concept of the YA love triangle. It perfected the vampire genre. It defined the show and encapsulated everything that made it great. Damon is one of the most complex and rich characters I’ve ever watched on TV and Ian Somerhalder brought him to life with a tortured charisma that was impossible to look away from. Nina Dobrev doesn’t get enough (any) credit for her work on TVD, juggling two characters, two love stories, and the majority of the scenes. Her sensitivity allows you to root for Elena even when she’s tearing the Salvatore brothers apart. Delena is my ultimate ship of the 2010’s. I hope another show and another romance can do to me what this one did. I am forever a diehard Delena shipper.

My Top 10 Christmas Episodes
mysterylover123
Everyone has a favorite Christmas Episode. That time of year from your favorite shows where the characters celebrate the holidays along with you, usually accompanied by big changes in their lives, gaudy decorations, and creative traditions. I’ve included my top 10 here, along with some honorable mentions. I’ve excluded Christmases I liked from book/film/comic book series, thought I think in 2 years time there will be a grand new edition to the list (aka My Hero Academia). Hope you all like them and have a Merry Christmas!
#10. Futurama “Xmas Story” Airdate: 12/19/1999
I don’t broadcast it much, but I love classic Futurama. This little gem of a Christmas episode - sorry, X-mas episode - is a common staple of “Best Christmas Episode” lists, and for good reason. It’s one of those “dark” Christmas stories, featuring a murderous Santa Claus robot, Fry dealing with being 1000 years in the future where his old traditions have died, and some good bonding moments among the cast of Planet Express. I particularly like the “gift of the Magi” joke with Amy and Hermes, and the Harold Lloyd reference with Fry on the clock tower.
#9. X-Men Evolution “On Angel’s Wings” Airdate: 12/15/2001
X-Men Evolution is a nostalgic favorite of mine - my introduction to the X-men in high school, the first show I ever read fanfiction for, etc. It’s Christmas episode has a very warm feeling to it, a rare dip into sentimentality for the show. It deals with Scott and Rogue going to recruit Angel for the X-Men while the others are home for the holidays, and clashing with Magneto in their attempts to do so. I’m always down for an episode focused on Rogue, and her bond with Scott over being the X-Men without families to go home to is great. The little montage that ends the episode always puts a smile on my face.
#8. The Simpsons “Holidays of Future Passed” Airdate: 12/11/2011
I heard this one was thought of as a potential series finale for The Simpsons, as a bit of closure for their premiere (another christmas Episode, “Simpsons Roasting on an Open fire”, which I like but find a little too ‘early Simpsons’ to make the list.). Honestly, I wish it had been. Modern Simpsons is generally such a mess, it would’ve been nice to see it get such a dignified end in Season 23. This one is a great little trip to the future of the family, and it really feels like a nice vision of what could become of them somewhere down the line. I like that this one gives Homer a chance to be a good grandad, and a bonding moment between Lisa and Bart. I hope this is where they really do end up.
#7. Frasier “Frasier Grinch” Airdate: 12/19/1995
Frasier is the only show that ended up landing 2 Christmas episodes in my Top 10. And I felt I still had to cut a few of them that could’ve made the list easily. This series really had a knack for the Christmas episode. My 2nd favorite, obviously, is this little offering from Season 3, which deals with Frasier trying to get Freddy gifts in time for the holiday when the ones he ordered got misdirected. It ends up touching on an aspect of the holidays I wish would get covered a little more often: when you buy others Christmas gifts, are you getting them what they actually want, or just what you think they should want? Overbearing Frasier has made this blunder, and the episode helps him learn that lesson. Though as usual Niles steals the show. Niles in a toy store trying out a doofy hat is more than worth the #7 spot.
#6. Friends “The One with the Christmas in Tulsa” Airdate: 12/12/2002
Friends has a lot of Christmastime episodes, but most of them are just kinda coincidentally set around the holidays. Only a few stand out as actual “Christmas Episodes”. While I enjoy “Holiday Armadillo”’s comedy and “Creepy Holiday card”’s sentimentality, my standout favorite is this one, the last Christmas episode they did, perhaps because Chandler and Monica are my favorites on the show and their romance is the OTP. This one deals with Chandler away from home, working on Christmas at a job he hates and being separated from Monica. Through some clips and a bit of soul searching, he decides to finally quit the job he hates and pursue something he wants to do. It’s a great example of how to do a clip show/Christmas episode well, move characters forward, and remind us of why we love these two together.
#5. Buffy “Amends” Airdate: 12/15/1998
This one would probably be higher if there wasn’t so much Bangel melodrama in the last 10 minutes (sorry fans, I really hate Bangel). But the rest of it is more than good enough to put Buffy’s sole Christmas episode at #5 for me. What I love the most about this one is, well, the ‘amends’ of the title. Xander starts making up for 3 seasons of douchebaggery by being a good friend. Willow makes up with Oz. Buffy makes up with Faith. That latter one puts the biggest smile on my face of the bunch; it’s bittersweet, given what happens, but when Faith shows up on Buffy’s doorstep with presents for her and Joyce, my small Grinch heart grows three sizes each time. Definitely a must-watch.
#4. Parks and Recreation “Christmas Scandal” Airdate: 12/10/2009
Parks and Rec has 3 Christmas episodes and they’re all pretty good. I debated between this one and “Ron and Diane”, but since that one is more about Ron’s award ceremony, I decided to go with Season 2′s. This one is a very “Parks and Rec” kinda Christmas, dealing with Leslie getting involved in a dumb sex scandal, the Parks department putting on a “Winter wonderland” on Lot 48, some dating drama about Ann and Leslie and their boyfriends (At this point, since Ben and Chris weren’t around yet, Mark and Dave), and a very cute hug between a pre-marriage April and Andy. The biggest win in this one is the sheer Christmas atmosphere. It practically glows off the screen.
#3. How I Met Your Mother “False Positive” Airdate: 12/13/2010
HIMYM is another one with a lot of candidates, but “False Positive” really stands out to me as something special. It’s essentially an “It’s a wonderful life”-style story (as they’re going to see the movie) where Lily’s false positive pregnancy test inspires the friend group to each choose the more responsible path in life of their two choices, only to chicken out when the false part of the title is revealed. The way the episode ends is absolutely spectacular, a standout moment to me among the series’ many strong character moments, and leads to strong development for all around going forward. Definitely a highlight of HIMYM’s 6th season, and an episode full of Christmas imagery, soul-searching, and classic plotlines.
#2. Frasier “The Fight Before Christmas” Airdate: 12/16/1999
My favorite Frasier Christmas episode feels like it combines a little bit of everything that makes the other ones good: a KACL office Christmas party with a whacky theme (we finally see it instead of having it going on in the background!), Frasier being pompous about Christmas celebrations and ending up karmically punished for it, a comedic scenario which crafts a comedy of errors, Martin’s decorating. In many ways though, the highlight of this one is how deftly it handles the romance reveal from the previous episode between Niles and Daphne. in the midst of all the crappy Christmas rom coms, it’s easy to forget how strong a good Christmas set romance can be, and the moment of tension as Daphne tries to reject Niles but just can’t quite do it is a standout for me. Definitely my favorite of Frasier’s 8 xmas episodes.
Hon. Mentions: Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire, Batman Christmas with the Joker and Holiday Knights, Frasier Perspectives on Christmas, Parks and Rec Ron and Diane, HIMYM How Lily Stole Christmas.
#1. Smallville “Lexmas” Airdate: 12/8/2005
This one isn’t just a Christmas episode. It’s pretty much the Ultimate Christmas episode. Where to begin? A fancy Christmas party jam-packed with colorful decor. Superman - Clark - delivering presents as Santa for the Daily Planet. Clark talking/saving a depressed mall Santa (or is he real?) from committing suicide with an emotional heart to heart. Sweet family Christmas celebrations (right before tragedy strike in the next episode). But of course, the real highlight of this one is Lex’s Alternate Reality fantasy. After getting shot, the titular Luthor has a vision of what his life could be like if he did the right thing, essentially an “It’s a Wonderful Life” style alternate reality. However, that reality ends in tragedy, and the tragic twist of the episode is that instead of leading the Grinch’s heart to grow, the Christmas dream only serves to help solidify Luthor’s fall to the dark side. It is certainly juxtaposed with enough holiday magic and hope to offset that depressing ending, but I will admit to liking a bit of subversion in my stories now and then. Everything Christmas episodes could have is jam-packed into this episode.

@scarletwinterraven asked: Of the shows on my list, what are my favorite ships and why?
ATLA: Zuko/Mai. I wouldn’t have called myself an ATLA shipper, but on my most recent rewatch I found myself really fascinated by the Zuko/Mai dynamic and by Mai as like, a person, generally, and I actually have most of a fic about them written. I just like them both so much individually, and also, there’s something deeply interesting to me about the balancing act that they must have had to perform throughout their adolescence, having a crush around Azula and all that palace intrigue. And can you imagine being Mai, and having a crush on the crown prince once day, and then the next day he’s been banished forever, and his sister is still ostensibly your best friend? And knowing that any amount of emotion you display over that is power that you’re giving her over you? And then he comes back after three years away? I would so desperately love to have seen their reunion scene.
Angel/Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Wesley/Lilah. It’s technically an Angel ship, but Angel should really be on the list, anyway and also my GOD I love that ship so much. They were the first couple I ever shipped, which, uh, probably tells you something about me. I don’t want to see them end up together, or anything, I just enjoy them so damn much. Also Willow/Tara of course, but I don’t wanna talk about it.
Community: Britta/Jeff. Also not in an endgame way, more in like an, “I really enjoy every time these two people are paired on screen together” kind of way, but they obviously shouldn’t be together, that would be a trainwreck. (I also thought Britta/Troy was very sweet.)
ER: Carter/Abby. They’re one of my ride-or-die OTPs, and I will NEVER be over the bullshit that show pulled with this ship. She left him for Luka? LUKA? HOW BORING CAN A PERSON POSSIBLY BE?
Farscape: So like. Is it possible to friendship ship people? Like, not in a BroTP way, but like, specifically, there’s a kind of dynamic that I very rarely see in fiction that I can get REALLY into, where two people are best friends who love each other incredibly deeply and want the world for each other, and who have a platonic relationship, but there’s a lot of sexual tension there and they both know it, but it would be an incredibly bad idea to follow through on it, so they don’t, or maybe they do for a while but then they stop, but there is a definite sexual component to the relationship, but ultimately it’s more friendship than anything else, just… complicated by this other thing. I fall head over heels for relationships like that, and in that sense, you could say I “ship” John/Chiana.
Girl Meets World: I am. Sigh. A Lucas/Maya shipper. Don’t look at me.
Legend of Korra: Korrasami, obvs.
Leverage: Hardison/Parker/Eliot TIL MY DYING DAY, BAYBEE.
The Magicians: Quentin/Eliot is still a great ship, and you will pry it from my cold dead hands, motherfuckers.
NMTD/LoLiLo: Pedrazar :) :) :)
One Day at a Time: Uh, okay, so here’s the thing, I don’t SHIP Penelope/Schneider, but I ABSOLUTELY see the chemistry and I think it’s HYSTERICAL, and because I am secretly, in my heart of hearts, kind of a troll, I’m so excited by the fact that it’s there and the show is getting another season and somehow they’re going to have to deal with it. Does that count?
Parks and Rec: Ben/Leslie are a weird exception to almost everything that I normally ship, but whatever, I love them. Gimme all the wholesome nerds in love and supporting each other.
Schitt’s Creek: I “ship” David/Stevie in all the same ways and for all the same reasons that I do John/Chiana.
Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated: Fred/traps.
Star Trek: Tom/B’Elanna is probably the ship I have loved the most that has ended up being endgame, and I can’t believe that it was on freaking Voyager. There’s something about the way that they are both such incredible disasters, and they are both kind of incredibly hard to be in a relationship with, but also they both try so hard to be there for each other regardless, that really works for me. Every relationship should ideally switch back and forth between insulting each other, sincerely reassuring each other that you’ll be there during times of trouble, and encouraging each other to commit acts of ecoterrorism.
(I’m also really into Picard/Crusher but specifically as a weird, tense, unconsummated thing. Like hell yeah, TNG, show me a future where Picard and Crusher are already divorced. That’s the good stuff!)
Superstore: JONAH/AMY OH MY GOD. These two are a disaster in probably a bad way, but there’s something so real about Superstore, and something so delightful about their chemistry, and again, I’m just such a sucker for people who can’t get their shit together, and like. They had sex for the first time when she was pregnant with her ex-husband’s child? Their life is a series of awkward, undernegotiated attempts to merge their extraordinarily incompatible contexts? I just feel like Jonah/Amy takes the standard trappings of the Mike Schur style grounded soulmate workplace romance and turns it into this slightly sordid, unwholesome, not always good thing, where the fact that they’re opposites who attract and work together leads them to have real problems, like, a lot of the time. But also (because I promise I’m not a complete downer) that relationship just feels so fucking lived in, those people just feel so detailed. The joy they take in each other feels equally real.
Teen Wolf: If you’ve gotten all the way to the bottom of this list, surely you can guess that I am in love with Stiles/Malia. FOR FUCKS SAKE. They lose their virginity to each other in the basement of the mental hospital that they’re both staying in while dealing with their overwhelming trauma. After knowing each other for like five minutes. And then they turn that into a relationship. Those two are in no position to be dating anyone, let alone each other, I love them so much.
As you can see, I find it very difficult to ship like a normal person, and therefore I am perennially frustrated. (Other ships I have loved: Jane/Michael from Jane the Virgin; Clarke/Lexa from The 100; oh, and I wrote what I believe to be the single most popular Tony/Nebula fic in all of Avengers fandom.)
My migraine is getting better, but feel free to keep sending me meta asks!

Romance asks: #7, 8, 26, 29 for Keme/Jorgan, #1, 11, 20, 25 for Heodi; #9, 14, 30 for Taviloth; and #5, 7, 10, 18, 25, 31 for Ederity!
Keme/Jorgan
7. Favorite date activity?
*cough* Shooting range or gun/ammo shopping.
8. What are their most prominent memories of each other?
Answering off where we are currently, one of Jorgan’s most prominent memories of Keme is the first time she pushed back against Garza when given a morally questionable order(killing the civvies Krel had maaybe turned into cybernetic bombs). One of Keme’s is their first kiss. She’d been wanting to do that for a looong time, and it was every bit as good as she was anticipating
26. How important is the romance in your OC’s overall story?
Middling. They’re happy together and make an amazing, kickass team, and reuniting with Jorgan is one of Keme’s driving motivations through all the Zakuul crap(she doesn’t want an “Alliance”, she wants to FIND her DAMN HUSBAND) but they’re wholly developed and well rounded people even without the romance.
They’re basically the embodiment of that “in a fight they’re lethal, around each other they melt” quote and it’s wonderful.
29. What are your favorite moments that happen between them?
We’re not there quite yet, but I’m super looking forward to the reunion in KotFE ch11. :D (Look, Tim Omundson did a breathtakingly FANTASTIC job with the VA work there, and that is not just my bias speaking. :P It’s so wonderful, makes me grin like an idiot just thinking about it)
Um, the convo where Jorgan says he was wrong about thinking you were too green to lead a squad like Havoc and you’ve been a solid leader.
The “I’ve been watching your back, alright… and everything else.” convo. The marriage proposal. When Zane gets rude and Jorgan’s quick to make clear he needs to respect you. Oh, and when he gives you the necklace(is that still in the game? I honestly to God can’t remember and I know they cut some convos... it happened for Keme either way).
There are a lot, I could keep going :D
Heodi
1. What drew your character to their LI and vice versa?
Adi thinks Heodan’s sweet and he’s clearly a hard worker, Heodan absolutely loves Adi’s curiosity and how kind she is.
11. Do they have any inside jokes?
Not really. Much as I personally love inside jokes, most of my ships don’t wind up with any
20. Did either person change at all, to be with their partner?
Nah. Kinda the opposite; Heodan’s always the first one to encourage Adi to stay curious whenever she talking about reining it in so people don’t get hurt. Sure, she needs to be risk-conscious, but the solution is not to stifle parts of herself.
25. Share any headcanons about their relationship.
Heodan is the only one other than Adi who can make her tea absolutely right every single time. Kana and Aloth get pretty close, Xoti’s even closer, but Heodan’s the only one who nails it every single time (she jokes that’s part of why she fell in love with him)
There was one time Adi got a teeny bit of a concussion in a fight and wasn’t supposed to read for a couple days as part of recovering, which was ofc torture for her, so she stressed-baked cinnamon blueberry muffins(she has the recipe memorized). Heodan ate, like, half of them bc they were just so good. Adi teased him for a good bit, but she’ll occasionally make a batch that’s just for the two of them now that she knows he likes them so much.
Heodan always keeps a part of the craft hall counter clear bc that’s where Adi sits whenever she comes out to visit him.
As with pretty much every folk/orlan ship, there’s lots of her-standing-on-chairs/counters/a few steps up for kisses
She loves to play with his hair. It’s just shaggy, not super long, so there’s not really anything she can do with it, but there’s just something about running her fingers through it both of them find really soothing.
Most other ones I think are in one of the two Star Rewritten posts I’ve made, though I’m sure there’s something I’m forgetting....
Taviloth
9. How open are they with their feelings?
(after the initial ‘bury my feelings bc there’s no way they’re mutual’ period) Tavi is extremely open, all the time. Aloth is… usually willing to talk if she asks, but sometimes she does have to dig a little. He’s still more open with her than anyone else.
14. Is there anything they associate with each other?
Tavi associates with Aloth–Books, the color blue, tea, the crackly smell of burning ozone.
Aloth associates with Tavi–Swearing, loud laughter, carved wooden figurines, beaten-to-splinters training dummies
30. How does their love change as they get older?
They reach a point where they almost never say the words “I love you” bc it’s been 100+ years, they know. It shifts a lot more to the quality time/physical touch end of the love language spectrum, where they’ll brush hands as they walk past each other, or bump shoulders stuff like that.
Ederity
5. How do they comfort each other when they are sad?
Hugs, cuddling, Edér will crack bad jokes on purpose to make her smile, Charity will plunk Sparrow in his lap bc petting things helps.
7. Favorite date activity?
Snuggling on the couch and talking about their day and whatever else comes to mind.
10. Do they have pet names for each other?
Edér’s pretty much the only one who calls her Char, but other than that it’s just typical couple stuff, I think. (Darling, love, sweetheart etc)
18. Is there any way they disappoint each other?
Not so much “disappoint”, but Edér can be a bit of a ‘leave clothes where I take them off’ slob, which bugs Charity before it bugs him, so that gets on her nerves. And she tends to keep her mouth shut if she disagrees with something “inconsequential” (i.e. she wants to have something different for dinner, or was looking forward to doing something that’s not happening anymore. Things she sees as not important, whether bc they really are little things or bc there’s nothing that can be done about them, so there’s no point complaining), so Edér has to really really dig to figure out what’s bothering her and she tries to brush it off and he insists and they maybe get a little snippy with each other for a while.
25. Share any headcanons about their relationship.
Charity wears Edér’s shirts a lot when she’s just doing things around the house. Sometimes with pants, sometimes not.
Both are secretly convinced Sparrow likes the other one better.
Charity consistently winds up moving in her sleep so she cuts of the circulation in Edér’s arm. He doesn’t mind; he sleeps like a (snoring)log, so it just means his arm’s asleep when he wakes up, and she’s just so cute.
She’s pretty nmw, but his absolute favorite is when she wears her hair in a messy bun. Charity is amused by this, bc it’s literally her “hair out of my eyes to do house/yardwork” hairstyle that takes no thought whatsoever to do and is never the same twice.
31. Share anything you would like about the couple!
She likes the way his bead tickles when they kiss.
Aside from their wedding, they’ve never seen each other dressed up.
I think they’d be fantastic parents.
The mental image of them sharing giggly-sleepy morning kisses makes my chest ache from the sweetness. Think Jim/Pam or Ben/Leslie on mf steroids.
Writing their stuff is always self-indulgent af and I don’t care. (I’d call it a guilty pleasure ship, but I feel no guilt whatsoever :D)
Romance Asks
#romance asks#keme/jorgan#taviloth#heodi#ederity#i think keme and jorgan need a portmanteau yes?#i feel like i'm gonna do enough with them for that + a ship tag :3#ps i will take moe of these even though it's from a few days ago ;)#(might be slow bc i have a couple things i'm writing with deadlines that take priority#but i love talking about my ships so you can still ask)

Kouri watches Marvel’s Runaways Season 1
yo I heard you like liveblogs so I liveblogged a liveblog
30 minutes in and I’m already insane about what happened to Amy
“he hasn’t laid a hand on for a while now” wow what a stellar endorsement
I like Amy and Nico’s dad, why does he have to be evil
the narrative framing of the first two episodes is really interesting, showing the same day from both the parents’ and kids’ POV
Leslie is like “do we have to talk about your issues right now? I’m trying to psych myself up to murder an innocent teenager”
“personally I’ve found denial to be a great coping mechanism” that applies to like failed romances and stuff not murder
ugh Leslie’s husband. why couldn’t they sacrifice him?
ooooooh she’s not dead! fucking plot twist!
betrayed by a fallen hairclip!
Robert I hate to be the one to break this to you but your wife is kinda evil
oh yes that picture of Destiny in front of Big Ben is totally convincing
okay I get that Victor doesn’t want to admit his box malfunctioned but won’t they notice church dude is still wrinkly and shrivelly
the house calling Tina the ‘alpha user’ is just fucking weird
um, Robert. I like you. But buying a house for yourself and your mistress without clearing it with said mistress is very, very stupid.
wow, this flashback to Amy's death is super fucked up, why wouldn't her parents call 911
and it got more fucked up! okay then
Chase and Gert just aren't gonna mention the dinosaur they let free to the other kids???
"I don't want to get my parents in trouble [for their illegal dinosaur]" um Gert priorities please
oh no she ruined your school's chances at winning the lacrosse championship! ......was high school really like this? literally nobody at my high school would give a shit about that
why is she getting naked for the weird corpse?????
WHY ARE THEIR CROTCHES GLOWING
I HAVE CONCERNS
Yes, I'm sure this kidnapping in broad daylight in front of a ton of other people is going to go swimmingly
lmaoooooooooooooooo just as well as anticipated
omg if she takes off her bracelet and doesn't glow and thinks she's crazy I'mma lose my shit
oh thank God, glowing
Alex honey I love you but do you have any idea how to use that gun
FISTIGONS LMAOOOOOO
that scene with his dad would be sweet if his father wasn't an abusive cockbite
Alex is like "all this happening and I'm getting kidnapped by gangsters, that is just super"
will someone listen to Molly please!!!!
well, I foresee that this is going to go very badly for absolutely everybody
poor Alex is like "I would like very much to be excluded from this narrative, which I never asked to be part of"
holy shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit
Alex just sttraight up shot that guy
suddenly: iron man!
hey, a time machine concept I don't hate!
ooooh, glioblastoma, those are nasty
couldn't happen to a nicer guy
okay how is creepy shrivelled old dude actually more creepy when he's not shrivelled and old
wow, these people should have asked a LOT more questions before they put on those fucking robes
"we made a deal with the devil" wow it took all y'all way too long to figure that out
like. nobody ever asked what he was getting out of this? Not a one of you? I thought you guys were all geniuses.
this is not the place for your adultery drama, Victor!
"you're all keeping secrets from each other" yes well that's what happens when you blackmail a bunch of people into committing ritual murder together
did Satan actually not notice that what's-his-nuts just pocketed the rest of his miracle cure
also, okay. I can't believe that not a single one of these parents who got tricked into committing murder on tape didn't think "ya know what? I'm gonna go to the cops anyway and just say that I had no idea 'get in the glowing box' was going to end up in someone being dematerialized by science that as far as I knew didn't even exist yet, and since Leslie admitted on tape that she did know that, she can go to jail and I'll just go into fucking witness protection"
Rather than "guess I'll keep murdering teenagers once a year in this nifty crimson robe"
alien brain has done some weird things to Victor
Chase, stop defending your father. Just stop.
suddenly: Frank is magic!
"It's like he wanted us to examine it" how can you say that without realizing that you're 100% correct
just spill the alien DNA on yourself!
whoever heard of lab safety?!
maybe don't tell Leslie you plan on destroying everything she's spent her life working for?
I don't know why Jonah is intent on "fixing" things with the couples and everything. Like. "We need Pride to stay together" .... I don't even know why all y'all are needed, how many people does it take to shove a homeless kid in a box
Victor, don't attack the lacrosse .... wait, they kicked Chase off the team for stopping a rape in progress. Victor, attack the lacrosse coach! Hit him!
lmao I was like "ugh relationship drama" and Amanda chimes in, without even knowing what's going on or what I’m watching, "the heteros are upsetero"
go get your dinosaur, Gert! I feel like a dinosaur would improve this situation.
ah, I see Victor's personality transplant has worn off
There's literally no reason they couldn't call an ambulance for Victor, come on, it was clearly self defense
"well that was inevitable" lmao Dale pls
Why does Jonah even care about keeping Victor alive
I hope the dinosaur eats Jonah
They're all just okay with sacrificing Janet? Seriously?
What in the Christ is so special about whatever Jonah is doing that none of them have just straight up murdered him
Damn, Tina threw down and now I kinda like her
eight episodes ago you hated your dad, Chase. he's the worst.
lol Tina really did burn her hand on a frying pan
wow, Darius hasn't given up yet?
whoa, sudden teenaged smexing
Well, see, the thing is, Jonah, nobody fucking likes you
he acts so offended that the people he blackmailed into committing murder for him don't want to do everything he says
"this better not be a crackbaby" Darius' girlfriend is my new favorite character
Frank why do you suck
yes, Chase, I'm sure blowing up the control panel is the best answer
the parent-group facing off the kid-group while Alex just stands there looking stern because he doesn't have any powers is hilarious
ALL Y’ALL REALLY JUST GON STAND THERE AND WATCH JONAH BLOW YOUR KIDS UP
NOT A FUCKING ONE OF YOU IS GONNA DO ANYTHING
THERE ARE LIKE 10 OF YOU AND ONE OF HIM
I get that he glows and makes lasers but holy motherfucking shit those dumbass parents really just stood there with their dumbass thumbs up their dumbass asses
the dino in a shopping cart covered by a blanket omg
okay I do not like Karolina having the face hugger mask on
"I'm her father, not Jonah!" dude she confided in you and you ratted her out to Jonah maybe don't be so proud of yourself
are y'all seriously leaving the dinosaur behind in the hills of LA. Seriously.
how in the hell did Alex have Darius' phone number???
I swear to God if I have to see one more minute of fucking Frank, I'mma lose it
Okay if framing them for murder was Jeffrey's plan to find them before Jonah does, he is an utter dipshit
not that this really surprises me as most of the parents honestly don’t seem too bright
okay done with season 1 and it’s a good thing multiple people told me season 2 is better because otherwise…

✏️ Leslie Knope and Amy Santiago! :)
Leslie and Amy represent the same type of character and type A personality. They’re both incredibly driven, ambitious, methodical, fair, rule-abiding, studious, intelligent, loyal, passionate, kind, leaders. They struggle a bit in the romance department, because they always like to be prepared and in control. Dating can be challenging and awkward for them.
I think Leslie is more spontaneous and rebellious than Amy. She breaks the rules more often. She’s more neurotic and loud. She’s even more ambitious than Amy. She takes things to a whole new level.
Amy is nerdier than Leslie. She likes weird science and fantasy books. She likes to learn in a school-like environment. She’s more methodical than Leslie in that way. Leslie is more unconventional. This becomes more obvious if you consider their romantic relationships.
Leslie dated Dave, a cop, and used him to catch a kid who was defacing public propriety in Halloween. She “made” him break all kinds of rules. Amy dated Teddy, who was also a cop, and she complained that he was boring.
Leslie knows how to make almost anything fun. She’s too energetic and focused to let people get to her.
Leslie’s main love interest, Ben, is mature, nerdy, awkward. He’s kind of the opposite of Jake, Amy’s main love interest, in that way, although Jake and Ben are both sweet, smart, and childlike in some aspects.
Leslie and Ben dated in secret, knowing it was against the rules, and that they were jeopardizing their careers. Leslie sees the best in people and in everything, and Ben is more realistic and careful.
Amy and Jake dated in secret too, but not because it was forbidden. It was Amy’s attempt to be less strict. Jake is more impulsive and playful than Amy, because that’s what Amy needs.
At their core, Amy and Leslie are beautiful, sunny, sweet, helpful, intelligent, driven women. Leslie is more creative, impulsive, neurotic. Her energy is more chaotic than Amy’s. She’s funner and more comfortable with herself. She does everything more intensely. Amy is more controlled, more of an introvert (Leslie is an extrovert). She’s fun, dorky, and lovable, but in a different way than Leslie. I love them both, but Leslie is more relatable to me. She’s flawed and messy.
Thanks for the ask!

intros: next gen verse, pt. 1
ALICE LONGBOTTOM: seventh year, hufflepuff, head student, halfblood, cis female, she/ her. fc: milena tscharntke. pinterest.
Mum Friend™
alice is like... very nurturing, honestly. she likes to be there for people and take care of them -- they come first, in her mind, and she comes second. definitely considers most people around her more important than herself -- she doesn’t have a bad self-confidence, really, but putting herself first isn’t something she’d think of?
even from first year she’d be the kid others could come to if they couldn’t sleep and she’d make them some tea and stay up with them
favourite subjects are care of magical creatures & herbology -- just loves everything about nature and all the creatures in it
her room at home is full of plants & she joined the herbology club at hogwarts as soon as she could so she could help out in the greenhouses; makes her feel like home and less homesick, though having her siblings and parents at hogwarts now definitely helps
her tag is ‘steady flame’ which i tend to think pretty suitable for her -- she’s not a bright, roaring wildfire or anyone that sticks out particularly much, but she’s steady in her light and her love and she’s always there to provide some comfort
always tries her hardest in her classes but if she has to help a friend out that takes precedence -- she cares about her grades but not as much as helping people, so if she needs to skip out on revising more for a test to comfort a friend, she will
takes her prefect responsibilities quite seriously and now her head student ones, but isn’t a stickler for the rules in the sense that she always tries to understand the reason behind why a student got in trouble and if exceptions should be made
her biggest passion is dragons and they have been her favourite animal since she was a kid her heart just !!!! soars when she thinks of them
her dream job is to be a dragonologist but she hasn’t really... committed to it because she’s like... afraid of leaving home? she doesn’t want to be somewhere else if people need her? in a way ig she considers herself a bit more important than she is -- people will be fine if she moves elsewhere, the world will not fall apart, people will be happy for her -- but simultaneously she’s afraid to leave if like. nothing changes when she’s gone? and she’s not as important and necessary here as she thought? idk she has Conflicted emotions so her solution rn is just to let that dream remain just a dream
hopefully she’ll get her act together and go for it one day
but rn she’s considering a herbologist career instead even tho her heart is yelling at her to work with dragons
AISLINN FINNIGAN-THOMAS: seventh year, hufflepuff, vampire, cis female, she/ her. fc: inbar lavi. pinterest.
bde: big dumbass energy
chaotic horny
kind of spoiled in the sense that she has both her dads wrapped around her little finger and kind of... charms her way into avoiding punishment?
gets away with a lot of shit she shouldn’t and has since she was a kid
maybe that’s why she’s such a disaster now! whom knows
was sorted into hufflepuff not so much because she admires or embodies the traits, necessarily, but because hufflepuff takes the rest and she really couldn’t fit anywhere else
she’s really just here to have a good time and wants to accomplish that in any way possible
she’s really... not interested in anything that doesn’t involve having fun. schoolwork? serious matters? will gladly ignore!
she Loves her friends and family but might not be the best person to always turn to for emotional support? or ever gfhsjd. her strategy for anything painful is ignore, ignore, ignore! and that tends to be her advice to others. she’s for sure nice to turn to if you want to distract yourself and do something fun, but in terms of actually discussing things and trying to process them? really not the right gal
‘mate, am genuinely jus here for a laff x’ in a person
gets into A Lot of stupid and reckless and dangerous situations just because she’s a person who tends to follow any half-rotten idea she gets. could be seen as brave, i suppose, since she’s not really scared of much --- but it’s more because she doesn’t think about it or linger on what consequences could come long enough to actually get scared
really doesn’t have an ambitious bone in her body. she’s never been one to even plan a week ahead but just lives her life a day at a time. teachers might try to get her to settle on a career and plan for it but she’ll just say a goal and by the next meeting drop another random career that she has no intention of trying for. probably drives them up the wall
does just well enough to scrape by in her classes so her parents can’t complain but no more than that
makes a lot of bad decisions, especially if she’s drunk
key example: deciding that knockturn alley seemed like a good place for a hookup and went there late at night, alone, and drunk as hell
did not find a hookup, but a vampire found her
woke up the next day feeling like absolute shite and with a very obvious bite that aislinn in true dumbass fashion thought was the ugliest hickey in the world
really hasn’t.... processed being a vampire? she’s like eh! can be ignored! i’m not emotionally and spiritually a vampire which is all that matters!
insists on still doing stuff she can no longer do, like eat a shit ton of garlic bread and lie out in the sun when she’s fucking nocturnal now
she’s quite sweet but her disaster energy brings a lot of stress to the logical people in her life
ISABELLA POTTER: fifth year, ravenclaw, disaster, halfblood, cis female, she/ her. fc: lana condor. pinterest.
she’s like the really trashy love child of leslie knope and ben wyatt?? mostly their bad sides lmao??? she too would be referred to as a human disaster on national tv
she’s a descendant of the part of the potter family that moved to america ages ago, so until she transferred to hogwarts in her fourth year she didn’t know the other potters?? like obviously she knew of them what with harry saving the wizarding world and all, but they hadn’t met each other before. she’s an only child with no close cousins so like meeting the potters and the huge fam that comes with them was kind of like ………………… wait what for her and she’s still like??? doubt we’re actually related sorry can’t live up to you all
but yeah it was just her & her parents growing up and she was quite close to them when she was younger, but her dad is a politician ( now the president of the magical congress of the us ) and her mother is a healer, and they’re both just really ambitious, hardworking people so they didn’t have a lot of time to dedicate to their home life?? and when isa went off to boarding school they drifted further apart, so at this point they honestly don’t know each other that well?? and tbh they’re not bad parents per say, if you don’t count how focused on their careers they are rather than supporting her, it’s just that they’re both so focused and confident i don’t think they ever consider that isa might,,, not be?? and she really, really isn’t.
her self-worth is so low and confidence is basically nonexistent, and when she’s nervous or struggling a lot with anxiety she tends to ramble a lot, which her parents just interpreted as her being talkative rather than there being an underlying reason for it, and basically there was just… a lot of misunderstanding between them? like isa still loves them, but whenever she was home she just didn’t feel good, and she hates herself for it because they are good people, but she just doesn’t know how to change that??
somehow did not end up nearly as charismatic or smart or anything as her parents tho and is just a mess™ so she mostly introduces herself only with her first name and tries to like not think of the fact that that her dad held such an important position bc she doesn’t want to bring more embarrassment to the family than she already has lmao
she really wants to make her parents proud and everything and tries to behave properly she’s just ??? failing epically. always finds a way to embarrass herself and put her foot in her mouth and once it happens her pride kicks in and she just makes it worse and worse because she can’t just admit that she did something wrong so she just continues to dig her own grave like every second conversation it’s amusing to watch but she’s just a tragic mess
with her father being the president and her mother out there literally saving lives she was like i gotta do something good with mine!!! she doesn't see becoming an author as good enough in comparison, so she's gonna study to become a healer like her mom after she graduates but like,,, it’s so not the right career choice for her, she'll probably would dropp up halfway through training
when anything remotely bad happens she’s like this is THE worst thing that has ever happened to me in my entire life and i cannot show my face ever again so basically,,, the ppl in her life are probably used to her Dramatic self by now. tho i guess now that there is an actual apocalypse going on, everything sort of is the worst thing that’s ever happened in her life?? anyways
when it comes down to it isa is just a mess™ who just. gets into embarrassing situations Constantly because she never shuts up. she is often awkward and anxious and always puts her foot in her mouth and once that happens her pride kicks in and she just makes it worse and worse because she just can’t admit that she did something wrong so she just continues to dig her own grave like every second conversation. amusing to watch but a terror for herself she’s just a tragic mess who Cannot shut up for two seconds
her mouth just runs on it’s own and her brain struggles to keep up so she just says weird shit sometimes
it is honestly a surprise she hasn’t run off to live in the woods and write trashy romance novels yet
that’s genuinely a thought she has daily djhasg she loves her family so much so she wouldn’t but like. she thinks she should not be allowed to talk with other people because she Will fuck it up and she’s proven that again and again
lowkey terrified of actually falling in love despite how often she gushes about it and just runs away at the thought. quite literally. she will ramble and then run as fast as she can she’s gotta GO
VERA WOOD-KRUM: fifth year, gryffindor, broom racing mess, halfblood, cis female, she/ her. fc: brittany o’grady.
vera is entirely her fathers’ daughter and that becomes clear to everyone who has heard of them like .5 seconds after meeting her
she is Loud and she Will Not be stopped!!
so yeah she’s the daughter of viktor and oliver, and at this point they’re even more iconic than they were when they were younger tbh. even their ‘love story’ is pretty famous around the wizarding world, their rivals-to-eventual-friends-to-lovers story touching many, not to mention being one of the first openly gay couples in the quidditch sphere
vera will always argue they’re the most iconic couple at the very least in the quidditch world but also probably in the wizarding world but lbr she is Biased
she has three siblings, a younger brother named max who is... probably in his second year at this point i wanna say, and two older siblings, katya & alex, who are a bit closer in age to her. oliver and viktor used surrogate mothers and mixed sperm and have their kids, and yeah long story short vera is fiercely loyal to her family and would highkey die for them. 10/10 always ready to fight for them if someone talks shit
very grateful for her family and her happy upbringing and they mean more to her than anything in the world
obviously comes from a very quidditch centred family, and tho neither of her parents would force their kids into any career, they did have her join a little league quidditch team as a kid to encourage a healthy lifestyle and bc it’s their favourite sport in the world lbr. vera started out as a chaser but the coach decided to switch her position to seeker because he thought it would be a more suitable position --- which it definitely was, only more so than intended. her time in the little league quidditch team made her realise her intense love for broom racing, and she quickly lost interest in the actual game, racing off the pitch before quickly crashing and being brought back by the coaches fgjgdsfjhs
has been set on becoming a professional broom racer since she was a kid, basically, and is as obsessed with that as oliver is with quidditch --- if not more. like father, like daughter fjhsdgfhjs
basically all her birthday and christmas wishes since then has been related to it, whether for broom polish or workout clothes or books on the matter, even sometimes wishing from brooms when a new version was released
always makes sure to keep up with the latest news regarding anything from brooms to quidditch
anytime one of her fathers went to diagon alley, she would hound them into bringing her so she could hang out in broomstix, overtime annoying the old owner into liking her LMAO, becoming something like the granddaughter he never had
she worked there over summer and helps out a bit now during christmas break as well
but yeah vera was sorted into gryffindor like .2 seconds after the sorting hat touched her head HFJSDGFJS she was so far from a headstall it’s ridiculous
she takes after oliver a lot which i think is one of the first things ( and sometimes only if they don’t get to know her ) people notice about her --- she’s vivacious and loud and dramatic and incredibly competitive and is absolutely ridiculous, most of the time, especially when it comes for the lengths she’ll go to when it comes to broom racing. but she holds viktor’s kindness and loving nature at her core and she has quite a fixed
definitely wouldn’t be wrong to call her a daredevil, one of the things she loves about broom racing is flying around obstacles and how wrong it can go if she’s not good enough gjhdsgfj
has been in and out of both the hospital wing and st. mungo’s many, many times for a sixteen-year-old
her whole family is very supportive of her dreams which she is So grateful for, partly because they just want to see her succeed and be happy but also to reduce the amount of injuries she gets hsdhjfgs viktor especially trains her a lot with his seeker experience in mind, a role which her older siblings took on when she started hogwarts
that said, the wood-krum siblings are just as likely to encourage each other to get into trouble as to help each other so she ends up in trouble a lot hjsdghfj she Loves it tho all the professors probably think she is a pain in the ass, albeit a charming one
vera always tries to get around hogwarts by broomstick or longboard so like. rip in peace to the rest of hogwarts’ inhabitants bc the amount of detentions she gets doesn’t face her, she is set in her ways
#( verse: next gen. )#( intros. )#i genuinely just#copy pasted two of these LMAO#i was gonna do more but i figured maybe it's easier to spread them out in several posts

Answer questions given by the person who tagged you, write 11 new questions of your own, tag 11 people. I was tagged by @scottstiles. Thanks!
I’m not going to tag people, but I did add some questions, if you felt like doing an interview today.
1- if you could go back to one major decision you made that impacted the path of your life and change it, would you? what was it? how do you think your life would be different? or don’t answer those second two questions, if you don’t want to.
I wish I had opened myself up more when I was younger: joined some kinds of clubs, gone out and found people to hang out with, got myself a job so at least I was interacting with other people more even if it was in a minimum wage retail position. I didn’t know how to connect with people, so rather than trying to learn how, I closed myself off more. And now I’m a fully-grown adult who’s really obviously awkward in most social situations.
2- in what direction does your belief lean (like, you don’t have to agree with my description of it, but what fits your image best):
a single/multiple divine power that controls every facet of our existence (or like, any traditional religious worldview), with or without free will? a harmonious interconnected universal complex that directs matter and energy but is affected by our existence in said universe? everything is just a series of random events passing through time and everything that happens, everything we do, makes the next thing happen, but it could have happened any other way as well.
I’m not sure I believe everything is entirely random, but mostly random, yes. I don’t believe in any sort of divine power. If I did, I don’t think I’d view it kindly.
3- on that topic, what do you think happens when we die? do we go to heaven/hell or some other religious construct? do we have a soul that sticks around? reincarnation? do we just… end, and decompose, and that’s it? what do you really think? are you afraid to find out you were wrong?
I think I do believe in an imprint of the energy we once had living on in some way; in the memories people have of us, in the stories that will be told, in that sort of weird way places seem to retain energy from events and people that existed within them. But, we decompose and the circle of life continues, and the ‘you’ that you think of ceases to be.
4- tell me about a moment in a movie or a show that made you go all tingly inside, like, that really special tingle, and every time you see it you get those feelings again.
When Sam went back to 1973 in Life on Mars [spoilers, but it’s been 11 years so fuck you.] If I think about it (and I did very shortly after it happened), I get critical, and I hate how Matthew Graham, one of the show’s creators frames it, but the emotional reaction was absolute fucking joy and no joke, I sobbed my eyes out. For like, 20 mins. And cried again a week later at a bus stop, going to an interview. I never, ever expected it, because it’s narratively not the ending the show had been building towards up until that episode. But, fuck, it still hits me like a tonne of bricks that Sam chose Gene and Annie and ‘73.
For something that’s a simpler tingle, how about when Ben & Leslie in Parks and Rec got engaged. I also cried then.
5- what’s your go-to method for letting out stress?
Watching beloved inconsequential comedy, like Whose Line and Taskmaster and Would I Lie to You. Fun shit that doesn’t make me think but does make me laugh.
6- what are 3 of your favorite words (english or otherwise)? why do you love them? the way they sound? the way they look? what they mean? (i usually would answer this based on sound, kinda like fave color, just a feeling).
I like petrichor, defenestration, and fuck.
Petrichor is a word we use for the smell of rain after a dry spell, and there’s something very calming about it. I like defenestration because I love how we have a word for throwing someone out of a window and it sounds fancy. And fuck’s such a multi-purpose word that’s fun to say.
7- this isn’t so original but i wanna know- if you could live in any other period of time, in any part of the world, what would it be and why? or would you even? would you if you could choose your station/place in society?
You know what? I don’t think I would, because there are so many great things happening in the world at the moment alongside all the shit, the level and access we have to tech is phenomenal, and it’s easy to say the grass is greener, but the truth is you need to water your own grass.
8- is there anything you’ve ever done or ever happened to you that you absolutely never ever could ever tell anyone about? not even your soulmate or someone who would never judge you? if so, does it bother you, or do you have it tucked away in your mind and never think about it?
No, I don’t think so. I’m pretty lucky.
9- which teen wolf cast member would you get along with best? not who would you like to be in a relationship with, but who do you think you’d have the best relationship with (romantic/platonic/otherwise)? if you don’t think you know any of them well enough… which one would you bone? boooooooooone all night long?
Based on their personas, I think I’d get along well with Tyler Hoechlin and Arden Cho best. They both seem like really good people who are well-meaning and can play along with jokes, but aren’t ‘on’ all the time. I also think I’d get along with Dylan and Tyler Posey when they’re in their more sedate mode, but I’d probably roll my eyes a lot at them when they’re in peak Boy mode.
10- do you have a talent/skill that you feel is really underrated or underused by you or others? is there something you’re really proud of but have nobody to brag to about it because nobody you know really cares at all? brag to me.
I really wish my parents had realised just how good a singer I am in comparison to other people and had bolstered me rather than telling me to shut up. I wish I had pursued more of my singing/acting/speaking abilities. Other people now always tell me I’m a fantastic singer, and yeah, I wish they had fostered that confidence in me to perform.
11- do you think it’s truly possible to be happy if you never have a significant other(s) for the rest of your life? could you ever be?
You probably shouldn’t have asked this question while I’m listening to Moses Sumney’s ‘Doomed’; “Am I vital, if my heart is idle. Am I doomed?”
I think it’s possible for people in general to be happy without an S.O, yes. Me personally, I don’t know. I sure hope so. I’m a highkey romantic that no one’s ever romanced and it’s definitely the thing that sends me the most into depression spirals. And, you know, I don’t mean roses and chocolates and moonlight serenading, though if you serenaded me I would cry. I mean the romance of someone knowing you and thinking of you and caring about you even on your off days. Someone who thinks of you and feels lighter because their connection to you makes their life better. I’ve never had that, and at this stage, I think I probably never will?
The truth of this comes down to: I’ve never tried online dating or app dating or anything like that because putting myself out there like that and getting rejected, or worse, hurt, sounds equally as horrible as living as I currently do: which isn’t always happy, but is mostly safe and stable.
1. Is there anything you like that you will get defensive about, even though you know you’re overreacting?
2. Do you eat out/get take-out a lot? What’re your go-to dishes? If you cook more: what dishes do you most like to prepare?
3. Are there any musical artists or specific songs that you love that you could say are objectively bad, but you don’t care, you love them anyway.
4. Is there anything from your cultural heritage that you’d like to learn more about?
5. What’s your favourite time of day and why?
6. Do you have any favourite fictional characters that make you worry about yourself? They’re basically terrible in every regard but something in you connects to them?
7. What’s your second biggest fear?
8. If you could rewrite one relationship you’ve had in your life, what would it be?
9. Do you have a favourite song? When did it become your favourite?
10. What is a scent that you dislike?
11. Is there a place you’ve visited that you’d like to go back to some day?
