He stopped short, just before the cockpit. That had been their sacred space. Their boys' club, his mother had called it. She'd never really warmed up to the Falcon, and at the time, young Ben had been amused. Now he wondered if she regretted it.

He could feel Rey slip away from his side, back down the hallway. He didn't consider calling her back. This wasn't… Not for her. Or anyone.

Without realising it, he began to cry.

Things had changed, in the years since he'd last been here. But there was so much that was exactly the same. He circled along the wall, fingertips bumping over the grooves and dents and control panels.

He could see himself and his father clearly.

"Where are we going now, dad?"

"Maybe Nar Shaddaa, if you don't tell your mother."

"Cooool."

They'd never been to Nar Shaddaa. His father had never taken him anywhere that was dangerous. The one line Han Solo would never cross - endangering his family.

Ben was supposed to be his legacy.

He stopped with his hands on the back or the pilot's seat, on either side of the headrest. He'd wished he was taller, as a boy. Wanted to be able to look over his father's shoulder and watch him fly. And now…

"I'm sorry," he whispered, and then the grief overwhelmed him. He clutched his father's seat, his forehead pressed against the back, fighting not to fall. Killing his father was supposed to free him, but now it was the one thing he could never get forgiveness for.

I wish you were a Jedi.

Just like his wife, there were some things where Han had never fully put aside first impressions. 'All that Jedi nonsense' was one of them. He'd only spoken lovingly about the Jedi when trying to convince Ben that going to his uncle's school wouldn't be so bad.

But if Han Solo had been a Jedi, he would have had a ghost, and Ben would be able to see him again.
