Officially forming the theory that the reason more service dog handlers don't use protective gear like boots, goggles, and ear protection on their dog is because the public becomes 3000% more unbearable when they try.

We're all used to "aaaaawwww look the the doggo" when we go out with our working animals, but getting

1. Accosted for pictures (whether folks ask or just invade your space and distract your dog)

2. Pointed at like an exhibit

3. Shouted at (OMG DOGGLES, "why is it wearing that" etc)

4. Actively followed around by strangers

Is downright fucking awful.

I know it looks cool. I know some of our gear is specialized. I know pet dogs don't usually wear/tolerate what SDs learn the wear. But for the love of whatever you deem holy, BE KIND ABOUT IT. All of the actions listed above are just fucking rude. Leave people alone. Leave service dogs alone.

there are a few different topics id like to cover here; before i begin, please know that i am coming wholly from a place of respect and understanding, while also feeling the need to defend my friend. mari (@thatdammchickennugget) is one of the sweetest, full hearted individuals i have had the pleasure of meeting, and she did not deserve to be spoken to like that.

the fact i even have to reiterate this fact is disheartening in itself, but, please: give respect, get respect. at the heart of this fandom, we are all here for the same reason. to read and write for characters we love. it seems that sometimes, perhaps we forget this fact and we focus too much on the analytics of it all.

i understand the frustration, i too was once a new writer and can promise you the feeling is not lost on me. you are valid for having these feelings, but there is a right and a wrong way to go about it.

there simply has just been too much hate in this fandom lately. there are tensions for all sorts of reasons. shaming and mocking people for making friends and fostering safe spaces is not how this fandom has ever operated. ‘big blogs’ are humans with feelings, the exact same as you, and to immediately assume the reason they aren’t reading or reblogging your fics is because they don’t want to support anyone except their friends is an unfortunate stance to take; given it’s simply not true.

perhaps you may be forgetting that there are real lives behind these screens. lives with traumas and grief and heartache and stress. not actively reblogging every fic we come across doesn’t equate to not wanting to support, it may just simply mean that we’re going through some shit and don’t have the time to read as much as we’d like to.

for new writers, a side note;

if you’re a new writer, you need to assess within yourself why it is you’re writing. there’s going to be low points, topics or themes not as highly sought. low notes do not depict your worth, and to point fingers at others because they’re not supporting you the way you want them to, screams to me, someone who is writing for all the wrong reasons.

interactions and reblogs are so fucking appreciated but shouldn’t be the root of why you are doing what you’re doing. i write for tom more than anyone and his fandom is the smallest aside from blaise. the amount of writers that actively reblog my fics is very very low, and that’s okay. no one owes me or you anything.

i’m going to wrap this up by saying this; over half of my mutuals are small blogs or nonwriters. i have made majority of my mutuals on here by interactions alone, wether it be me searching for fics or them commenting on mine. it’s easy to make friends, it’s easy to find those supports, you just have to reach out.

i will always encourage every single one of you, to send me your fics, to tag me in them, whatever the hell you want to do. it’s hard to be everywhere at once. i have always been loving and welcoming and inclusive to everyone, i know all of you know this. if anyone wants my support, do not ever be afraid to ask it. i will not bite you, i will not ignore you, i will not tell you to get lost.

People who make content/talk specially about Bad Boys and Roomies but don't include Grian really like, confuse me? (Specifically, people who either talk about or make stuff around the dynamics of the series they were in but don't include Grian while still calling them Bad Boys and Roomies)

Don't get me wrong, Grian is not everyone's little guy and I know him being "everywhere" can be a bit tiring for some, and that's so valid!

But like, it's not Bad Boys or Roomies without Grian?? It's Jimmy&Joel and Etho&Cleo then. The reason those are the dynamics and named for those dynamics is because Grian adds to it, he's just not there standing in a corner while they do stuff ya know?

There's nothing wrong with preferring those pairs and being happy these team ups provide them, but you really can't fully remove Grian from these dynamics without destroying how the team is. He was a structural part of Jimmy&Joel's Limited Life experiences, he was a structural part of Etho&Cleo's Secret Life experiences.

I'll refrain from going all analysis on Grian's relationships in the Life Series and the people he teams with for another day, but yee I just wanted to ramble about what iv noticed recently.

So I've seen the idea out there that Ingo's amnesia is him losing his proper sense of time as he lands in Hisui and the Pearl clan picks him up. And that given this interpretation, if Emmet fell instead/as well and was picked up by the Diamond clan, then he should lose his proper sense of Space.

This is a cool concept, but it's a little hard to determine how exactly one loses their sense of space.

The most popular argument I've seen is either Emmet has no sense of direction, or is straight up Blind now. The first option is eh, the second option is clearly to be used for angst purposes only, so I have a option that I feel works way better!

Emmet has Touch-Blindness, a disorder that means the signals that go from your skin and muscles to tell your brain where your body is in space don't work. You can feel pain and heat just fine, but if you close your eyes you wouldn't be able to feel your hand being touched, or if you put your hand in a bag to get something you wouldn't be able to feel anything inside.

It's an incredibly rare condition, so rare that googling it is a nightmare and a half, so here's a Video explaining it by Brew on YouTube.

1) In the US, service animals may legally be worked off leash if the leash interferes with the dog's tasks, or the handlers disability. The dog must remain under complete handler control

2) The only people legally allowed to question the legitimacy of service dogs are employees/staff/owners of businesses/venues/events. They may ask and expect answers to the 2 ADA questions. Random other patrons are not owed answers by handlers.

3) There is no specific gear required to determine the legitimacy of a SD team. Amazon vests, leash wraps, fully custom gear, vest provided by organizations, and unlabeled service dogs can all be legitimate teams under US law.

4) Accusing a service dog team you've never seen before of being fake is incredibly insulting and rude. Do not do this. People who do this are assholes.

5) If you are not familiar with service dog laws, do more research before you speak to teams about legalities and their legitimacy in public. Ada.gov is free and has an FAQ section that answers a LOT of the basic SD inquiries.

I just received a pretty vitriolic and emotional ask lambasting me for having the “male witch tag” in my posts: I understand that the pagan and other witchcraft communities have deep, deep scars as a result of ignorant and hateful men who have used their misplaced power as a weapon against witches and those who practice magic, of whom are often overwhelmingly women or non-male in some form. I am a gay man, and gay men also have deep roots in Hellenic and pagan communities and culture, as well as black magic and other occult religions, and I wear that as a sign of pride. I understand that I am not to dictate your personal pain, and I am not in any way the arbiter of how you process your trauma and anger, nor will I try and pretend to understand what you must be going through, but I will NOT tolerate you personally attacking other witches and hellenists for how they practice and personify their own personal spirituality and identity, including my own.
