Unpopular Opinion 911 - et all
I'm a bisexual woman and I've known that I'm bisexual since I was 11 years old. I legitimately am attracted to both men and women.
I've been watching 911 since 2 months after season 1 ended in 2018. I got into the show for Bathena and have loved them ever since.
I keep seeing people complaining on the official show pages about how Athena abuses her authority as a cop, and while they're not wrong, they're also blowing things way out of proportion. I'm pretty sure the people saying that have never watched the NBC show Chicago PD, because if you compare what Athena's done, to what Voight on Chicago PD has done, you'd know that the stuff she's done has been pretty tame. On Chicago PD: 1. Voight has locked people up in a cage and literally tortured them for information.
2. He has killed people for revenge. He killed the guy who killed his son, Justin. He killed the guy or people who killed Al. There are probably even more occurrences than that, but these are the one's that mainly come to mind for me.
3. He literally threatened Matt Casey, Hallie Thomas, and Gabby Dawson, when his dumbass son, Justin, was on drugs and caused an accident which paralyzed someone, because they could report Justin to other police who would've actually locked Justin's stupid ass up. I get that Voight was trying to protect his kid, but that doesn't make this shit okay. Also, it's weird as hell that Antonio worked with Voight for 6 years. How the hell did Antonio not kill Voight for threatening his sister's life? That's garbage.
4. He literally stole money and drugs from criminals.
5. He has threatened his detective's lives on more than one occasion, and not in some way to make sure they are more careful and protect themselves, but as a legit threat.
Returning to my 911 thoughts.
Oliver Stark has claimed that he's been playing Buck as bisexual the entire time. No, he has not. He just wants the clicks and attention from pretending that this has been happening all along. Buck has had no interest in men until season 7 and the BuckTommy storyline happened.
The episode of Lone Star that's the crossover, doesn't prove Buck is bi. He wasn't flirting with TK, it was a misunderstanding on TK's part. Buck is literally confused when TK says that he's with someone, as he wasn't flirting with TK, he was only inviting TK to come to LA as a friend to hang out. Buck says on the show that he's checked out hot guy's asses before. He hasn't done that in canon. It's one of many things that they claim is canon, but isn't because it happened off screen. He has literally been obsessed with women from the first time we see him, until Tommy returns in season 7.
Buck can't even say that he's bisexual on the show. He hasn't done any research, when he used to research everything. He hasn't spoken to people like Hen, Karen, or even Josh in depth about his feelings for men. There was one scene, right before the relationship ended, where he talked to Josh, which didn't even amount to anything and was just a waste of time since they made Tommy OOC and broke up with Buck. Hell, he (Buck) didn't even know after 6 months that Tommy was gay and not any other identity.
All this to say, 911, TM, OS, they don't genuinely give a shit about Buck, his supposed bisexuality, Tommy, or even the other main characters on the show. From one episode to the next, they have them say one thing and then retcon it right after. The whole Buck is bi thing was a hoax. They just wanted to attract the gay and bisexual crowd back to the show since Henren and Josh haven't been getting that much screentime, and Buck and OS are like the golden child of the show. People think he's an idiot, but that he's a sweet idiot, who can do no wrong. As I stated above, I started watching 911 before season 2 even aired. I don't like the way the show is handling their characters and storylines and I'm finally getting tired of the shitty writing. I love Bathena, I love Henren, I love Madney, I loved BuckTommy. However, if Tommy is thrown aside like yesterday's trash and Buck moves on, only to fuck a bunch of women and/or men with the excuse of exploring his sexuality, I will be checking out and dropping the show.
I like Buck's character, but he's not the reason I watch the show. He's also not enough to keep me watching. Henren are constantly being threatened to have their kids taken away. Bathena is constantly put in crazy life or death situations that end in some super unrealistic way: Kid landing a plane, remember? Madney don't have anything interesting going on. Literally, all they have going on, is that they're having another kid. Eddie has spent years obsessed with his dead wife, Josh hasn't had much of a plot in years, since the only boyfriend he's had on the show was some homophobic jackass who lied and said he was gay, so that he could beat Josh up.
May is gone, Harry is gone, Sue is gone, Carla is gone, Chris is gone. All the side characters that helped make the show a little interesting, is gone. The found family dynamic is lacking or entirely absent this season. Also, making the point to show Tommy sad and longing for a family, only for him to end up sad and alone, doesn't make me want to keep watching this show.
I think I'm finished bitching for now. I know that my thoughts are all over the place, but I've kept my mouth shut on how I feel about OS and Buck's bisexuality, this whole time, but now I'm finally going to fully speak up.
As always, I know many or even most people aren't going to agree with me and that's fine. This is just my feelings and opinion on the show.

Putting shipping aside. I think they need a new showrunner
Someone who can flesh out the character and story and give each character a meaningful character development, or whatever arc that moves the story forward in a meaningful way.
And I don't hte Tim or wish him any ill will. I can't imagine how the job of a showrunner is. But you need someone who will plan out the season. Not necessarily down to the last detail. But the direction of the season, and where the characters will go. At least to some degree.
This season for whatever reason felt all over the place. We've seen less of so many wonderful recurring characters. The stories weren't balanced and so much felt like an afterthought.
We could have gotten so much more out of Hen and Karen and getting Mara back her adjusting, and maybe Mara missing Jee. You could have maybe done something with Chim and Maddie and Jee missing Mara.
Mara and Denny playing pranks, etc.
Maybe some tension between Harry, Athena, and Bobby and frustrations over the whole house-building thing.
Eddie going to therapy and maybe actually putting his foot down with Chris?
Buck having a relationship hurdle that leads to a breakup or doesn't lead to a breakup. Maybe he and Tommy work through it, but it takes a C plot for a couple of episodes. Giving Josh something to do outside of dispatch. Maybe he and Sue go to brunch together. Cause it's not like they're the only floor managers. Maybe Maddie and Linda hanging out.

i'm not one to get involved with all the drama about AB and PK getting too much screen time, because quite frankly it's laughable. without them, there would be no show. so i really am struggling to understand the hate?? i know people are caught up with the whole 'buddie' thing but can we agree that it's becoming a little ridiculous now?
anyway, rant over, i'll go back to writing my fics;)

My theory about "Brad" for episode 8x8
In a recent post (linked here), I indicated I would reveal "My Theory" regarding the reason why I believe the character "Brad Torrence" is still around this late in season 8 and here it is.
Full disclosure: Initially, I didn't have a problem with Brad because Bobby was working as the tech advisor for the TV show "Hotshots" and I thought he was interesting. Also, after 8x1, I posted that I hoped him and Bobby could be friends since Bobby hasn't had anyone to hang out with outside of the 118 since Michael left in season 5. But my opinion of him has changed because he should be gone and I thought he would be once Bobby went back to the 118 in 8x4. He's still there taking up screentime from the mains and I don't like it 🙄. Even though I'll be glad when he's gone, I've still provided a fair and balanced assessment of his character.
On Friday, I posted my review of episode 8x7 "Hotshots" (linked here) and earlier this week I posted about my expectations for 8x8 "Wannabes". After rewatching 8x7, I noticed a common theme between Bobby's and Athena's storylines and it was centered around preparation for their retirements with Bobby dealing with Brad, a fake firefighter and Athena working with Sparks, a rookie police officer.
Before I delve into this, I need to make something crystal clear! These are my interpretations and observations regarding what could happen in episode 8x8 and even though it's possible some might not agree, it's ok if they don't because two differences of opinion can coexist. I'm basing my analysis off things that happened in episodes 1, 2, 3, 4 and 7 along with the stills that were released for episode 8.
Let's get started.
At the beginning of season 7, I did a post about the way the show was setting everything up for Bobby and Athena to begin their retirement arcs (linked here) but something happened (probably during the three-week hiatus between 7x5 and 7x6) that changed their storylines. When season 8 started, they were and still are living in an apartment, they're looking for a home and once again, Athena was in peril during the opening disaster. At the time it seemed like neither of them would be slowing down but the "cracks" in their communication were shown again and they've been present throughout their marriage (especially in season 4 when they argued about not talking to one another and it was about their retirement). They don't talk about the important things and it was even more evident in 8x7 when Athena told Hen that she told Bobby she didn't want to walk around with a cane. IMO, they're setting up their retirement arcs again but this time they're inserting others (guest stars) to assist with the development (which is unnecessary to me especially since the main cast is large enough which means they could utilize the people who are already there. I mean HELLO Buck's right there but I digress).
After rewatching 8x7, the common theme I found between Bobby and Brad and Athena and Sparks was that both Brad and Sparks were inexperienced, hot heads who wanted power and they were aiming to use firefighting and police work to get it. Brad is an actor playing the role of a fire captain on a hit TV show that contributes to the LAFD while Sparks was a rookie cop (who Athena kept addressing as a "probie" instead of a "rookie" and I think that was done on purpose for Brad's storyline). Brad and Sparks were/are impressed with Bobby's and Athena's work and they admire them.
Athena - Sparks did his homework and learned everything he could about her including the number of arrests she'd made and her commendations along with all of her other accolades.
Bobby - Brad told Bobby to his face in 8x1 that he was going to study him and in 8x2, he suggested Bobby do a bootcamp in the mountains or at his home in Malibu with him and his friends so he could learn how to be a fire captain.
Sparks and Brad have a lot of similarities; however the major difference is Sparks is young and he doesn't have a LOT OF LIFE EXPERIENCE (Sound familiar? It should since that's what Bobby told Buck in 6x1 when Buck wanted to be interim captain). Even though Brad is older, he's an asshat and he's also a reckless manchild (Bobby's description of him in 8x7) who will likely get someone hurt and he seems like a womanizer (Sound familiar? It should since that's how Buck USED to be when he first started at the 118.) He's been married 5 times and in the stills; it seems like he's flirting with a woman during that water rescue call.
These two guest characters have a lot of similarities with 25-year-old probie Buck and I believe that was done on purpose. During one of OS's Entertainment Weekly Q and A responses, someone asked, "In 9-1-1 s8 was Brad the British actor a reference to you being a British actor" and he answered, "Yes! Well, not like based on anything but I think he is an "homage" to me." The word "Homage" means "to show respect or honor to someone or something." Therefore, I believe my theory has merit since Callum Blue the actor who plays Brad Torrence is supposed to be an "Homage" to OS.
I've included a quick video below of Brad's interactions for two reasons, one, I didn't feel like making the GIFs for them and two, I think when the things a person says can be heard as opposed to reading them, it provides more context.
It's evident that Brad is mesmerized by Bobby's and Buck's father/son relationship and before 8x7 aired, I completed a post that included the way Brad wants to be like Buck and how IMPRESSED he was by Buck's and Bobby's heroics during the opening airplane disaster (linked here).
At the end of 8x8, Brad said he talked to the chief and had the show put his character in a coma so that he could "job shadow" Bobby but in the stills for the episode, he's wearing full turnout gear with a name on the back. I found this to be problematic for two reasons. First, Brad is NOT a firefighter, therefore he shouldn't be wearing any 118 or firefighter gear period. Second, the turnout coat he's wearing has a name on the back of it. Now, it's unclear if he borrowed it or if it's his but the last name is "Boothe" and since his actor name is "Brad Torrence" it made me wonder if that's his real last name.
FTR, job shadowing means a person is supposed to observe someone while they're doing their job. It doesn't mean "participating" and they shouldn't be dressed to look like they're part of the team but Brad is and it's going to be a cluster f~ck.
Why is this a problem?
It's a problem for him to be wearing turnout gear because he should be standing off to the side without getting involved. Bobby's captain of the 118 which means Brad should have a notepad and an ink pen instead of standing next to him. Since he's wearing 118 gear, someone will easily mistake him for being a real firefighter and reminder, in 8x3, he lied to the soccer player and claimed he was one even though he isn't.
Also, during the Metro Dispatch fire in 5x16, Eddie was still a firefighter but he wasn't with the 118 and when Bobby told him to grab some turnouts, THERE WASN'T A NAME ON THE BACK OF THE JACKET.
Therefore, how is it that Brad "an actor who plays a fire captain" is wearing full turnout gear with a name on the back when he hasn't even gone through the academy to become a real firefighter?
In the above BTS stills, it seems like Brad's flirting with a victim and the statement about not dating someone they meet on a call has been spoken numerous times since Eddie said it in 6x15. Since Brad's not a firefighter, he doesn't know that and he appears to be fascinated with the attention he's getting from the people who recognize him. Therefore, it seems like he's going to hookup with someone from a call and it's likely to cause problems with the team and the LAFD.
While I was making GIFs and the video for this post, I noticed something from episode 8x3 that I didn't see before. After Athena landed the airplane and the emergency escape slide inflated, the spotlight was on Brad for about 3 seconds and he was standing there all alone. Then the camera showed Buck and Brad standing next to each other and I don't believe that was a coincidence.
Here's my theory... I believe Brad is there so that he can become a "Probie" and Bobby will be the one who has to make a decision at the end of the episode about if he wants him to be part of the 118. The interviews all indicate that Brad will be there, he's going to cause chaos and he's supposed to have a conversation with Eddie that will be life changing and I think it'll revolve around Brad asking Eddie what made him want to become a firefighter. TM (showrunner) said in an interview that their conversation will revolve around something that has to do with being an "All American" (I couldn't find the quote but I remember reading it) and based on Brad's propensity to want to be like Buck and that he does in fact have "daddy issues", it appears he wants to work with Bobby so that he can aspire to be like him. This guy has to be at least 45 years old or older so his daddy issues should be resolved but that's my opinion.
Brad wants to be like Buck so he can become a firefighter and like I said in a previous post, he was impressed by Buck's and Bobby's dynamic. Everyone knows Bobby is Buck's found dad and they've been working together for so long that Bobby didn't have to tell Buck what he needed while they were preparing to shutdown the I-110. Brad watched all of it and he called Buck, "Bobby's boy."
I don't know how long Brad will be around but based on everything that's happened so far, it seems like he could be part of the 118 at least until the end of 8B the same way Jonah was there until the end of 5B and he didn't leave until the real reason he was there had been revealed.
Do I think Brad is dangerous? No, I don't believe he is... at least not in the sense of him trying to capture someone and hurt them so he can be captain of the 118 or anything. But I do believe his reckless behavior is going to get someone hurt or they'll experience an NDE because of his actions and those someone's will likely be Buck or Eddie and/or Buddie.
All of this seems like a huge setup for the second half of the season.
These are more Bathena and Buddie parallels (related posts linked here and here) and I believe it's being done this way for a reason. IMO, it's still too early to tell if these things have anything to do with the 9-1-1 spinoff that's supposed to start filming in March but I'm not ruling it out. Since TM and RM (creators) like well-known stars with top billing name power (hence AB, PK and RL from LS) I'm not sure if Callum Blue fits that description to carry an entire series on his own but only time will tell.
The point of this post is to highlight the reason why I believe Brad is still around and it's so he can become part of the 118. That way Bobby will have someone to lead, teach and train since the core four (Chimney, Hen, Buck and Eddie) have been working with him for so long that they know what he expects. Even though Gerrard was a complete and utter terror while he was there (mainly towards Buck), when he got injured, they carried on with Hen as interim captain. It kind of seems like Bobby needs someone to lead who doesn't know anything and this is more about him than it is about Brad. At the end of season 7, Bobby left and he didn't tell his team that he was planning to retire. Now that he's back, it appears that he's realizing they can and did function without him and it's making him understand his role as captain could be coming to an end the same way Athena pulling her hamstring is making her realize her own mortality as a LAPD police officer.
It'll be interesting to see how this will play out but Brad being around at this late date is NOT a coincidence and I think Bobby will have to decide if he wants to hire Brad as a probie after Brad reveals he wants to change careers.
Just saying.

Considering the newest events... let me rant for a bit because it's clear to me that many of the loud parts never really cared for bathena or the characters individually.
Since forever, when it wasn't about to brag about AB and PK being on the show, when their screentime wasn't about parenting grown adult men, It was always like this, people complaining.
Complaining of Athena centered storylines, because even 8 seasons later, people still find hard to believe that 9-1-1 is a show about first responders what will includes cops... it's not CF or S19.
Complaining of Bobby struggles dealing with his trauma "being boring to watch". This is nothing new, except, this time certain people seem to be saying "fuck to all good senses" and leaving the bubble of "valid complains of screentime" to insult the actors, ship and it's fans.
So in honor to this I will just forget of being a better person and wish for more bathena screentime and more disasters around them. ✌️😊
Seriously, please Tim, make what these people fear the most, make it the Bathena show, make them the Owen Strand of OG (what they aren't even near of being), because since these people are preaching so much about it, let's manifest it for real so these people finally get so annoyed of the show to leave for good... so maybe, just maybe, this fandom will have some peace, because every new season is a new thing to hate., it's a cycle
To conclude my rant, since people are already ruining this by spoiling others or simply complaining of the spoilers they got and ruining for everyone, i'm just gonna enjoy what i can of the episode and then disappear for the hiatus as per usual, because the fandom gets insufferable. It was a mess due buddies vs bucktommys and this time feels like it will be the same way as the new target for the hate is very clearly bathena and angela screentime.
#911 spoilers#911 abc#athena grant#bobby nash#bathena#my straw line was people complaining of Angela and downgrading her over a fictional ship screentime.#but boy reading someone say that what made bathena interesting was the family dynamic was a close one.#way to say you're unable to see them outside of a parental figure because you usually just care for them when they're parenting your favs

Eddie and Bobby both suffering with the ability to be happy or find joy because they believe they don't deserve it.
Confessing as such in season 8 and season 2 respectively.
Bobby and Eddie turning to comforts in the form of therapy with their priest(s) to confess their self burdened sins
Bobby believing he needed to atone. Eddie believing he needed to perform well enough for other people's expectations of him
Bobby saving lives to make up for the lives he felt responsible for. Eddie trying to give Chris a mom because he believes that's the way things have to be. Even if he can't love them.
Bobby fulfilling his goal by being himself and donating the blood that could save millions. Eddie giving Chris a stable life (before The Incident) by being himself, being a good father and bringing Buck into Chris' life.
Bobby on his road to forgiveness, allowing good days and finding love. And Eddie, just starting that to see what is right in front of him and to fight for what he lost.

I’m trying to go into this mid-season finale with low expectations. We still have so much to address and last episode was definitely a filler episode. What is happening with Chris, or Bathena’s home, how is Denny?
I’m enjoying the season, but there is something off about pacing. Some story lines were rushed. Some story lines were not addressed enough. Secondary characters are getting more screen time than some of the main cast.
It’s going to be a good episode, but I know I have to keep my expectations low so that I can fully enjoy the episode.
Unrealistic wish for the episode is hint towards Buddie canon, or Eddie leaving to Texas to get his son.

"We don't mind Bathena screentime when they're together as a couple without the cop storylines or having separated storylines"
Remind me again what happened in S7 premiere, oh yeah they were having their issues, but there was mostly comedy and moments of them together, no copaganda, just comedy and then a lot of action due the cruise capcizinf, only to people cry over not getting much of the 118 rescue.
So yeah, don't give me that excuse these people simply don't care about Athena, Bobby or Bathena, and shouldn't pretend they do.
it’s a discourse goin on rn about cop storylines and its really bothering me because everybody is pretending like they don’t like the cop story lines, for the sake of “wokeness” because Athena is a cop and all the ACAB yadayadayada when the real reason is yall just wanna see buck and Eddie fulltime so yall can have the palatable conventionally attractive yt gays to fantasise(fetishise) about. Like the true tea is you can’t stand the other characters storylines not cause they’re stale or boring cop propaganda but because they aren’t containing your token white boys of the month and you all are just cowarding behind the sentiment of being woke… Cause if buck or Eddie were the law enforcement we’d be seeing the same discourse but on the flip side “it’s a cop show??? Why are we following Athena in the firehouse ??”
Yall are just racist and misogynistic but are too ignorant to even see it. but the evidence is glaring…the discourse happens anytime Athena or even HEN gets a story line & Yall needa do some self reflection on that one... The show isn’t called ‘Buddie’ it’s literally called 911, is about first responders and it was literally written for AB so I suggest yall just unlearn ur misogynoir cause she ain’t goin nowhere bitch.
And in the event she does go… the whole 911 ship is going down with her. Theres no show without AB and PK so yall are gonna just have to suck it up and stfu actually.
#I’d respect yall more if u were at least real about how you think instead of this BS that theyre always glorifying the police storylines#911 abc#911 spoilers#bathena#bobby nash#athena grant
