Matthew Phillips was the first to make basketball something of a beacon in this town; his son carried it on, bringing the name of Nightrest to the big stage for the first time. Now it's Colson Young's time to shine. The town will all be out, donning their orange and white as they cheer on the local star, a kid fresh out of Wardwell, making a name for himself in the Final Four of March Madness.
While the pressure is certainly on under the lights of the stadium, the atmosphere at Rhee's is much different. Sure, eyes are glued to the television screens, all tuned in to watch the big occasion, and the crowd shouts at the ref and cheers at every basket— but the drinks are flowing. Bud Light is even on special. Wings can't come out fast enough. And the town, for an evening, has something to smile about. Something to cheer for.
In Character Time: 6:30 pm Saturday, April 1st, 2023
Out of Character Time: Saturday, March 25th to Saturday, April 1st
Event Tag: #nightrest:event004 and #nightrest:madness
Note: Muns may choose to continue non-event threads during this time.
While we want to stay true to current events, we cannot predict the outcome of March Madness, nor the teams advancing to the actual Final Four. In our universe the following will be true:
Colson Young is #22 for the University of Texas at Austin, playing for the Longhorns. He is a freshman. His position is Shooting Guard.
Texas will face off against the Gonzaga Bulldogs at 7:00 pm.
The final score of the game will be 76-73, with the Longhorns winning. The game will end around 9:15 pm.
A second game will follow, at 9:35 pm. The Kansas State Wildcats will face off against the Creighton Bluejays. This game will go into overtime, ending at approximately 11:45 pm with a score of 86-85, with the Wildcats winning.
For now, we'll leave you with a quote.
“I've never lost a game, I just ran out of time.” – Michael Jordan

homage to the mates.
Quick news: The Princess Kate cancer video, twirly amongst nature, is false, fake, and a lie. Musk wrote the impregnation tweet to deflect from September 11 because it was Harry. We don’t know why Muzzled Meg is with microphones galore—both consensually horrible?
Harry’s eponymous Catturd Twitter account represents family pedophilia. Google the identity, king-wise. Harry posts unwitty far-right extremism like curricula for monsters. Harry Windsor—cause of school shootings, school fires, stabbings, and suicides—is a fanboy right-winger with zero political views writing slop on the Internet to lighten the mood from kidnapping that upsets your teenagers. Kids know how he’s a swaddled coward in the UK, getting paid to theorize about my rape.
He has fun outside of wedlock. Dril or wint or cunty, the online account with a Jack Nicholson picture from the film, Something’s Gotta Give. This is Harry. In 2014, he wrote: i am selling six beautfiul, extremely ill, white horses. they no longer recognize me as their father, and are the Burden of my life.
google iitz.
In non-eloquent terms, a literary pedometer about his papa enslaving little girls and threatening the actor who was their actual pen pal. In case South Sudan needs a civil rights guest speaker.
A Netflix deal for a hired ventriloquist who, for six years, has deliberately helped a California-enemy sex trafficking violator. To dire results. Could nothing be worse?
As a briefcase model, in brassy copper orange, she opened suitcase Number 11 to reveal 5 dollars inside which the video titled, Meghan Markle Has the Case Deal or No Deal Game Show Network on YouTube details, years before she accompanied her playbook bunkmate to the ESPYs as he accepted an award honoring a fallen 9/11 hero.
She was cast in a wedding day prank, procreated with the contract holder, and deceived youths with the intentional spread of inaccurate information about race, gender inequality, and cyber bullying that she’s never been subjected to. H & Birthmark: You’re a psycho and she’s nowhere near a Cleopatra Malala Yousafzai.
Meanwhile, my female rights are gone and her captor husband says he wants to live in my attic. A reference I’ve learned is not about a cathedral roof hideaway, but the anatomy of a persecuted 15-year-old girl.
Grieving parents deserve more than implementing Flip and Frogmore Cottage as Mad Hatter tea techniques to denote that she’s the wrong milady.
Kids feel bad for someone. Guess who?
In Harry code, Rachel means: Rape-U-1st.
Divorce.
Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols, at 9:02 am, in a Ryder rental truck, bombed the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995, killing 168 people because of Royal Pedophilia, Incorporated.
Tyler Hilinski—Quarterback at Washington State University was found with a gunshot wound to the head and a suicide note. 21-years-old. Four months before their wedding.
Jason Hairston—NFL player; founder and CEO of Kuiu, a hunting gear company. He was Department of the Interior liaison for hunting groups during the Trump administration. He killed himself at his home in Dixon, California. Four months after their wedding.
Jonathan Cantwell—Australian professional road bicycle racer; won a stage of the Herald Sun Tour and two stages of the Tour de Taiwan. He killed himself six months after their wedding.
Morgan Rodgers—lacrosse player at Duke University. Her mom, Dona, said she suffered a dream-shattering knee injury and on July 11, 2019, Morgan died by suicide. At 22.
Pavle Jovanovic—Olympian on the USA Bobsled team. He became a welder and hung himself in his metal shop on May 3, 2020.
Dieter Brummer—Australian actor on the soap operas, Home and Away and Neighbours. He killed himself in Glenhaven, New South Wales. July 24, 2021.
Terrence Butler—basketball star at Drexel University, studying Engineering. The 6-foot-7 forward from Prince George’s County, Maryland died by suicide on August 2, 2023.
Alec Musser—model and actor; played the role of Del Henry on All My Children. He died by self-inflicted gunshot wound in his Del Mar, California home on January 12, 2024.

last thursday and friday marked the last job interviews that matt will have before we move back. the interviews were thankfully one hour long each, and they gave a specific timeline on when he can expect to hear back. one is by the end of this week, the other is by end of next week, and last is within 20 days. this is such a good contrast to some other interviews that were 4-6 hours long and basically ghosted him afterwards.
i think the timing of everything works out pretty well, where we can make a final decision once any additional offers are received. if no other offers come up, we plan on going with west la by default. this marks 9 interviews total in 2024, 11 interviews total in 2023, to make 20 total interviews before an offer is accepted. i felt like matt was michael jordan, and i was michael jordan's mom/advisor in this job search. this process was very exhausting for the both of us. since the last year or so was dedicated to job searching, it's going to feel (good) weird that his subsequent off weeks are really off now?!
as mentioned before, we have become pretty emotionally disconnected and burnt out. it's been feeling like a lot like all work, no (little) play makes us dull boys. it's been trying to get through the work week, and then prepping for interviews, then debriefing the interview. rinse and repeat. hopefully the sacrifices are worth it and everything will be on the up and up.
matt will be giving his 120 days notice this friday, so that his last work date will be in late aug. shit is feeling real now. although there is still uncertainty, i feel a little relieved that the ball is at least rolling forward and i feel some stress trickling away. in hindsight, i suppose waiting an additional half year to get a job in LA versus accepting the redlands one was a good call.
it also worked out quite perfectly that the job search thing lined up with R&T's time here. if we had accepted an offer earlier on, we wouldn't have had the opportunity to make east coast memories together. they were there for me exactly when things started to get tough emotionally and will stick around until our move back. now that people's schedules are all over the place (matt's week on/off, T's super commuting), it's a little difficult to plan a trip, but we're aiming to go to acadia national park together in the coming months.
other events:
i've been going to a new yoga studio as well as tangerine. this new one is not heated, but the classes are longer and the cost is cheaper! instead of doing the unlimited yoga membership, i upgraded my classpass to pay about $136/mo bc YOLO. it's essential in helping me feel stabilized by doing the practice and also by having a community
we supported I in his new coffee shop opening in the UES!
R&T took us on a friend date: picnic with bagels and bike riding around central park, basketball, thai food and board games
work has been quite busy and all over the place as usual - i'm trying to manage it as best as i can. they have not hired anyone yet for my old position and i'm still doing the work for it.
matt got invited to a former co-resident's wedding in aug. it'll be hosted in boston. i'm a little intimidated because this will be my first (rich) white people wedding lol
watched ramit sethi live with R. although some parts were a little boring as he interviewed the couples (as i usually listen to his podcast while doing some other task), the best part of the show was the end where he interacted with the audience. so many people were grateful for him that he created this open space community and i too was fangirling.
edit: i was out in cobble hill today and a young white guy passing by (if i heard correctly) said "you're beautiful". i was 80% sure because i had my airpods on and was in the middle of a text. compliment by NYC strangers instance #5

Adhel Tac, a 6-foot-5 post, signed with South Carolina in November 2023, According to a school news release, Staley said ,“Adhel’s interior presence and high motor allow her to impact the game in so many ways." At the time of her signing, Tac was rated one of the top five post players in the country. Another incoming freshman is 6-2 Joyce Edwards, a top five overall prospect the Gatorade national player of the year who committed to USC in November. Edwards played in the McDonald's All American game April 2, where she displayed her great post work. With the departure of Cardoso, these two incoming freshmen quickly could become great assets to the frontcourt. The Gamecocks also add Madisen McDaniel, another November signee, who brings point guard experience. How much she'll play is uncertain, but Staley said, “I love a point guard who plays to make others better without sacrificing her own talent as a playmaker; and Madisen is that.”

Montana State: 2023-24 Big Sky Men's Basketball Champions
BOISE, Idaho — Montana State is goin' dancing. Again.
The Bobcats, a No. 5 seed, used a big second-half run to push past archrival and No. 3 Montana 85-70 Wednesday night to win the Big Sky Conference tournament championship and earn a berth in the upcoming NCAA tournament.
It is the third consecutive Big Sky title and the third straight NCAA tourney trip for the Bobcats and the first under coach Matt Logie, who was hired at MSU last April.
In its fourth straight trip to the championship game, Montana State trailed by 11 points, 49-38, early in the second half but clawed back and eventually took the lead at 51-50 on a 3-pointer by Tyler Patterson with 12:23 remaining.
After that the Bobcats went on a 14-0 burst, and when Patterson hit another 3 with 8:28 left the Cats led 62-53. A turnaround shot by Robert Ford III with 6:29 to go gave MSU a 14-point lead at 67-53.
During that stretch, the Grizzlies shot 0 for 8 from the floor. Montana State's lead grew to as much as 21 points with 2:13 left after a Brandon Walker putback.
It was just the second matchup between Montana and Montana State in the championship game of the Big Sky tournament and the first since 1986, which was also won by MSU.
It was the 12th all-time tourney matchup between the rivals and the first since 2009. Each team has now won six times in those meetings.
The Bobcats, now at .500 with a 17-17 overall record, will learn their seeding and opponent for the upcoming NCAA tournament on Sunday. The tournament begins March 19-20 with the First Four. The first round is March 21-22.
The Grizzlies, at 23-10, are expected to continue their season with a postseason berth, possibly in the College Basketball Invitational, which begins March 23-24.

2023: Most important thing is family
First year I’ve felt a shift from my “forever young” lifestyle to realizing we are getting old. Our friends no longer join every big event. Both our grandmothers passed away earlier this year. We’ve also had some health problems we’ve had to manage. There’s more time spent at home with continued house maintenance and remodeling projects (and a little of relaxation when possible). I guess since we spend more time at home, we keep improving it. But overall, I’m like “what’s going on? Are we boring? Oh, we are just getting older”, blah.
The biggest focus this year has been family. Between birthdays, funerals, national holidays, and newborn family member, we traveled 8 times in the year to spend time with family. With all the life changes, I cherish the time I spend with our family.
Workwise, this year I hired three new people for my team, and it was the first time in 5 years working at Barr Engineering that I felt the workload was finally manageable. All those years of stress finally paid off; I have a solid team, way more money (ha!) and Barr did an article about me so getting some industry recognition.
Traveling to a new place or visiting family is my favorite thing to do. Here’s this year’s list, 9 different states and 3 new countries, not one full month spent in Denver.
JANUARY:
Jackson Hole, WY snowboarding with friends (Highlight: seeing a moose on the ski run!!)
FEBRUARY:
Taos, NM snowboarding trip with friends for my 38th birthday (Highlight: live music at a bar)
MARCH:
Tucson, AZ for work NAEM conference (Highlight: cucumber vodka lemonades)
APRIL:
Houston, TX for abuelita’s celebration of life
MAY:
Birmingham, MI for Luka’s birthday
JUNE:
Vienna, Austria trip with my mom (Highlights: ALL THE ART!! Absolute best and champagne breaks)
JULY:
Collbran, CO camping for 4th of July
Lake George, NY for Betty Brown’s celebration of life
AUGUST:
Nagawicka Lake, WI for grandpa Bob’s 95th birthday
Serbia and Montenegro for our 5th year wedding anniversary (Highlights: Basketball player Boban Marjanovic being at the same restaurant and all the cats in Montenegro)
SEPTEMBER:
Houston, TX for business trip (Highlight: Got to see SanJuanita and parents for a night)
OCTOBER:
Minneapolis, MN for work training
NOVEMBER:
Birmingham, MI for sisbro’s birthday and went to see Metallica (Highlight: Detroit Institute of Art with so many dutch paintings)
Tampa, FL for Thanksgiving with the Brown family (Highlights: Salvador Dali, wild dolphins and saving Sofi)
DECEMBER:
Houston, TX for Christmas with the family (Highlight: Go Karts with the siblings!)
The times I wasn’t traveling but stayed in Denver were memorable: 1- Goat yoga 2- Getting a limo to see SOFI TUKKER at Red Rocks 3- Bridgerton themed brunch with Elizabeth 4- Indoor mini golf with friends where I won :D 5- Denver Nuggets won the NBA championship and my obsession with Jokic started 6- Seeing The Book of Mormon 7- Makeup class with Kate at Sephora, and finally learning better makeup techniques (I know what to do with primer and bronzer) 8- Obsessed with Women’s World Cup games 9- Vivas Streets where Denver closed Broadway and Welton and had it open for bikers/walkers and no cars. So much fun. 10- Free outdoor movie The Goonies at Curtis Park 11- Tried something new: Hip Hop class with Holly 12- Seeing Jerry Seinfeld 13- Discovered new favorite restaurants: Jovanina’s Broken Italian and Bao Brewhouse
Relax time at home:
Creating art of any form is my favorite pastime. And this year I’ve become obsessed with creating miniatures. A few inspired by my recent travels: Mozart's home after Austria and Porto Winery after Portugal.
Favorite books I read this year: o The Blueprint for Revolution by Srdja Popovic o All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr
Bigger focus on skin care. I have a routine of drinking tea collagen every morning, take vitamins and use serum. The occasional face mask.
Favorite TV shows/Movies in 2023:
Shrinking
Beef
Transatlantic
Ted Lasso
Air
The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar
BARBIE!!
With all the art obsession this year I came up with our Halloween costume: Vincent Van Gogh and The Starry Night
Baby news!
New nephew Noah born in February 2023 and new baby announcement from Justin and Vanessa again on the same year! (another boy!)
Owen and Pearl had their baby Soren on November 7, 2023.
My 2024 wishes are for better health and continued happiness <3

Explaining the Memphis Grizzlies implosion
(News4usonline) – The Memphis Grizzlies like to talk. When it comes to chirping, perhaps no team in the NBA does it better than the young, talented and annoying Grizzlies. That’s why they’re sitting at home watching the rest of the playoffs. The Grizzlies talk too much. Memphis players don’t know how to shut up and play. After their early exit in the 2023 NBA playoffs, a deeper inspection of the Grizzlies’ vomit by talking nature is necessary.
Oct. 23, 2021. Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant stored 28 points in his team's 120-114 win against the Los Angeles Clippers. Photo credit: Melinda Meijer/News4usonline Throughout the regular season and through the playoffs, the Grizzlies made inflammatory remarks about their opponent and presented themselves as being unprofessional. Ja Morant, the Grizzlies' star guard and one of the new poster child of the NBA decided to go thuggish and made headlines for all the wrong reasons. This was the season that Morant was supposed to take the Grizzlies, the Western Conference’s No. 2-seeded team deep in the postseason. That didn’t happen because media headlines around Morant centered more on his attitude and lifestyle than what he does on the basketball court. After a defeat to the Denver Nuggets earlier this year, Morant was seen on Instagram live, flaunting and displaying a firearm at a strip club. That was not a good look for either Morant or the ballclub. Morant wound up being suspended for eight games. Without question, this incident, near the end of the regular season, had an impact on the Grizzlies getting bounced in the first round. That was one distraction the Grizzlies did not need going into the postseason. Then there is the matter of Dillion Brooks. Brooks outdid his teammate in the negativity department thanks to the forward running his mouth like a water faucet when the Grizzlies played the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round. Like his buddy, Morant, Brooks made the headlines for the wrong reasons. Just all bad. Brooks, who has built a reputation for trash-talking and getting into game-time foolery, was just plain disrespectful toward LeBron James and the Lakers. After Game 2 against the Lakers, Brooks went the “Dumb and Dumber” route when he raked James over the coals with some basketball-related disparaging remarks. “I don't care. He's old. … I poke bears. I don't respect someone until he gives me 40,” Brooks told reporters, and later replayed by Tim MacMahon via Twitter. The Lakers beat Memphis in the best-of-seven series, winning four games to the Grizzlies’ two. The Lakers clinched the series with a 125-85 win in Game 6. That would be exactly 40 points. 24 in the books. keep fighting. keep pushing. pic.twitter.com/kG1wMTg5yb— Memphis Grizzlies (@memgrizz) April 29, 2023 On top of his verbal exchanges with James during their playoff series, Brooks and the Grizzlies ran their mouths in the postseason last year against Draymond Green and the Golden State Warriors. Green and Golden State had the final say, kicking Brooks and Memphis right out of the playoffs in six games on their way to a fourth NBA title. Green had this to say about Brooks after reading a statement from Brooks about him this season and the Warriors: “Next time you speak up on me you should do some fact-checking…you're a clown.” Via Bleacher report on Youtube. Before the Grizzlies were ousted from the playoffs by the Lakers, Memphis recorded a regular season tally of 51-31. Brooks averaged 14.3 points per game during the regular season and only 10.5 points per game. With his numbers and his production dropping, it has been rumored or leaked that Memphis is not interested in bringing Brooks back next season. In the final games of the Lakers-Grizzlies series, Brooks chose not to speak to the media and made himself unavailable to the press. He was fined $25,000 by the NBA. Brooks is not the first NBA player to become famous for their trash talk. However, avoiding the media when times are tough is not a good look. Bad sportsmanship is also not a good look. The Grizzlies need to act more professionally to change that makeup. Reporter Dennis J. Freeman contributed to this story Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja'Morant warms up before hitting the court against the Los Angeles Lakers on Feb. 21, 2020. Morant was named the 2019-20 Kia NBA Rookie of the Year. Photo by Mark Hammond Read the full article

World Cup Bound 2023
By: Melanie J. Real
Away from the spotlight, the Philippine women’s national softball team continues a tradition of dominance with an eye on becoming one of the best softball teams in the world. As the country hosts the SEA GAMES, the Blu Girls hope not only to win medals, but also win the hearts and minds of more Filipino fans. (Ma. Angelica Garcia)
When the Filipinos think about the team's success in the Southeast Asia Games, the men’s basketball team always comes to mind. But our national team does not have a perfect gold medal record in SEA Games basketball having finished second in the 1989 edition of the tournament. In fact, the most dominant Filipino team in the SEA Games is our national women’s softball team, the Blu Girls. They have each won a gold medal in women’s softball at nine Southeast Asian Games. For all its success, softball remains relatively unknown in the Philippines, when most of the attention of fans is focused on mainstream televised sports like basketball and volleyball. But now the Philippine women’s softball/Blu Girls are in the top 4 for the World Cup 2023.
News and Events from Around the World As the world continues to shrink thanks to technology, it's important to keep up with what's happening beyond our local and national borders. Here's a look at some of the latest news and events happening around the world:
● Softball Blu Girls secure World Cup berth after finishing top four in Asian Cup 2023
The Philippine women’s softball team will travel to the 2024 Women’s Softball Cup after securing a place in the medal round of the 2023 Women’s Softball Asia Cup in Incheon, South Korea. The Blu Girls are looking to finish in the four of the Asia Cup after hosts South Korea lost 11-0 Japan on Thursday.
The top three from the Asia Cup will advance to the World Cup in Dubai, Ireland, Butrio, Italy and Valencia, Spain. But Asia gets a wild card, with fourth place in the tournament earning that spot. The Philippines lost 9-1 to Japan on Friday, but ended the preliminary round with a 5-3 fourth place record, a game ahead of South Korea.
The president of the Philippine Amateur Softball Association Jean Henri Lhuillier said that ‘I'm so proud of these girls, they really work hard for the moment and give it their all every game’. It was a huge achievement because it was an all-Filipino team, the first in nine years. We at ASAPHIL will ensure they get the preparation and exposure they need to compete against the best teams in the world at the World Cup in July, said Lhuillier.
The Philippines will take home the medal when they battle Chinese Taipei for bronze on Saturday. The Blu Girls took an early 4-0 lead but Chinese Taipei scored three runs at the bottom of the first inning to make it a close game. Chinese Taipei eventually seized control with three runs in the third inning. The ranking will determine where the Philippines ranks in the World Cup. The Blu Girls will take bronze with hosts Ireland, Australia, Botswana, Great Britain and the United States. Should the Philippines finish fourth in the Asia Cup, they will be up against Spain, Canada, Venezuela, New Zealand and the Asia champions in Group C. Were excited to get a World Cup berth, which was our goal at the start of the game. But we’ll be fighting for a podium, and I’m sure the team can do it. Said Blu Girls coach Randy Dizer.
The Philippines ended their preliminaries 5-3 to secure themselves a top 4 spot with losses in Japan (1-9), China (2-6), and Chinese Taipei (0-5).
● Blu Girls seek foreign exposure for World Cup Blu Girls captain and starting pitcher Ann Antolihao stressed the importance of international exposure as the team prepares for the World cup scheduled for July 22-26 in Italy. The Blu Girls qualified for the World Cup for the first time since 2018 after
finishing fourth. The Women’s Softball Asian Cup at Songdo LNG Stadium in Incheon, South Korea, on April 8 2023. The Philippines are 5-3, they beat Hong Kong (7-0), South Korea (2-0), Singapore (8-1), Thailand (10-0), and India (10-0), and lost to Japan (9-1), China (6-2) and Chinese Taipei (5-0). Japan topped the list with a clean sheet (8- 0). China is second (7-1) and Chinese Taipei is third (6-2). South Korea ranked fifth (4- 4), followed by Hong Kong (3-5), Singapore (2-6), Thailand (1-7) and India (0-8).
While they have been ranked No.4 in Asia, the Blu Girls might be dealing with a difficult task from Japan, Canada, Venezuela, New Zealand and Italy within the World Cup. “That's why we want extra overseas exposure. Our coaches realize that is what we lack,” Antolihao stated throughout the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum on the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex on Tuesday. Also, Antolihao said that “were glad that we have been capable of go back to the World Cup, who became joined through teammates CJ Roa (pitcher) and Celine Ojare (catcher) in the weekly session presented by San Miguel Corporation, Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee, MILO and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).
The top two teams in the World Cup will be seeded in next year’s edition. Roa said a training camp in Japan would be ideal. “A high-level training in Japan, even tune-up games with university schools, if given a chance, hopefully in Japan,” she said, adding “skills wise, we have that here but we don't have enough exposure.” The Blu Girls are home grown talent, with players from Bacolod, Makati, and Bukidnon and Batanes provinces. Meanwhile, Antolihao said the coaches will decide who will be included in the final World Cup squad. The team will resume training on April 24 2023.
Under the guidance of coaches Ray Pagkaliwagan, Randy Dizer and Anthony Santos, and with the support of Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (ASAPHIL) President Jean Henri Lhuillier, the Blu Girls made it to the World Cup. Congratulations Blu Girls Philippines for making it to the bronze medal game in the 2023 Women’s Softball Asia Cup. Your dedication and hard work have paid off, and we couldn’t be prouder of your accomplishment. As a student communicator I am optimistic and
excited to see what the future holds for Philippine softball. Keep up the excellent work and continue to inspire others including me with your passion for the game.
