As a Japanese person who is used to reading manga, I find comics outside Japan to be so different beyond size, color, reading direction, and language that I wish there was a book explaining comics of various kinds and how to approach them. For example, I have read The Witch Boy by Molly Ostertag, Magical Boy by The Kao, Hound by Paul J. Bolger and Barry Devlin, An Táin by Colmán Ó Raghallaigh, and the excerpts of Franco-Belgian comics in the guide Invitation au monde de la Bande Dessinée (はじめての人のためのバンド・デシネ徹底ガイド, 2013).
Neither The Witch Boy nor Hound were divided by chapter to my surprise—especially Hound since it was first released in three volumes. Dialogue in Franco-Belgian comics are lengthy compared to what I see in manga, which the academic book Les échanges culturels entre Manga et Bande dessinée : Historie, Adaptation et Création (日仏マンガの交流 ヒストリー・アダプテーション・クリエーション, 2015) has commented on.
Hound was created by at least two Irish people and edited by one British person (Hugh Welchman) but I find this graphic novel to be similar to a certain kind of Franco-Belgian comics like the works of Jean "Mœbius" Giraud. These comics have impressive art and imagery—and I love how Hound portrays Cú Cullan's berserk state and uses dashes of red in an otherwise black and white setting—but they give me little or no idea about what's going on unlike, say, Fullmetal Alchemist by Hiromu Arakawa. I have heard of the international popularity of manga—in France in particular—but I wonder why people outside Japan embrace manga so much when it's not like comics produced in their countries.
Thoughts?

1982: The Greatest Geek Year Ever Review- A Docuseries That Brought Me Back to My Childhood in a Great Way
The fact that 1982 is a year that has been one that made me who I am today is pretty incredible to me. That year had so many of my favorite movies. ET the Extraterrestrial is a film that has been one of the most influential movies of my lifetime. I was only 8 years old at the time, but I loved that movie so much. I still remember watching it at a drive-in theater, and I felt ET and Elliot (Henry…

1 Actor, 2 Characters - Due South : Pilot
Inspired by my realization that RCMP Officer 2 (Pilot) and Jocelyn Kerr (The Ladies' Man) are both played by Jennifer (Jen) Parsons, I decided to check the cast list from IMDb and see if there were any other actors who appear as 2 (or more) different characters in the due South universe. To my surprise, there are several from the pilot alone! Many of these characters lack readily available screenshots (and some I couldn't identify by name alone) so I went through the episodes to compile this side-by-side list.
I may continue this search through the rest of the episodes, mainly relying on cast information from IMDb, the credits of the episodes themselves, and these wonderful annotated transcripts. And since some characters are unnamed and/or uncredited, maybe I'll even spot some new ones! Also, I am 100% open to contributions and/or corrections, so if anyone has anything they'd like to add, I'm all ears!
Without further ado, listed by actor and mostly in order of appearance...
Paul Gross - I almost skipped PG before remembering that he has indeed played another character on dS! So here's PG as Benton Fraser (Pilot) and as Frannie's German fiancé (Dead Men Don't Throw Rice, S4E5)
2. Kimberly Ange - RCMP Officer 1 and also appears in Victoria's Secret Part 2 (S1E21) as an attorney named Boswell (credited as Kim Ange)
and
3. Jennifer Parsons, the one who started it all - RCMP Officer 2 and also appears in The Ladies' Man (S4E3) as Jocelyn Kerr, who wants to have bark tea with Fraser (credited as Jen Parsons)
4. Scot Dentor/Denton - RCMP Officer 4 (credited as Scot Dentor in the pilot but listed on IMDb as Scot Denton). IMDb also identifies Scot Denton as the uncredited actor who plays Pierce (the ambassador targeted in The Edge, S2E9)
5. Barry Kennedy *** - This one I'm not so sure on. Barry Kennedy plays a character called Bert Jenkins in the Pilot but as far as I could tell, no character is called this aloud in the episode itself. Working backwards from Kennedy's other dS credit (Sgt Eddie Polito in The Ladies' Man, S4E3, uncredited, per IMDb), I still struggled with a definitive ID. Based on the annotated transcript of TLM, I believe the man on the right in TLM screenshot below is Kennedy's character Polito. Based on this, and the fact that the supporting characters seem to be credited roughly in order of appearance in the Pilot, my best guess is that Kennedy's dS Pilot character is the pilot who talks to Fraser about the lack of geese and beavers. They look like they could possibly be the same guy?? Maybe?
6. Philip Williams - Herb Lantrell, the pilot who gives Fraser the list of American dentists who'd been hunting in the Pilot, also appears as the arms dealer Lloyd P Nash (the P does not stand for pertinent) in Bird in the Hand (S2E4).
7. JD/Jack Nicholsen - the unnamed Airport Hustler (credited as such even though he does return the money to Fraser at the end of the Pilot) is also 2 other characters: Caulfield (one of the bad guys stealing pets in The Wild Bunch, S1E15) and Joey (Denny Scarpa/Lady Shoes' trigger man in Odds, S4E6)
8. Gene Mack - the Chicago Desk Sergeant in the Pilot is also credited as Mason Dixon, the associate of Devlin (the boxing trainer in Mountie & Soul S3E7). Mack is credited as Chicago Desk Sergeant but does have a name tag in the Pilot, although it is quite blurry.
9. Dan Lett - Dr. Weingarten (the dentist in the Pilot) is also Carver Dunn (the creepy fan who uses blackmail to barter for the singer Tracy's stockings in Mountie Sings the Blues, S4E7)
10. Ramona Milano - Francesca Vecchio! And also appears as Deputy Bernie in Dr. Longball (S4E1).
Dr. Longball of course has other main cast members playing different characters, but I plan to cover those as I make my way through the episodes chronologically in the hopes that it'll help me keep track of which actors/episodes I've checked.
11. Sandi Stahlbrand - TV Reporter Shelley Perry from Channel 6 News in the Pilot and TV Reporter Tracy Wightman (apparently from Channel 7) in Red, White, or Blue (S2E17)
12. Kevin Rushton - an honorable mention! I didn't think to include Rushton until I saw the IMDb trivia point him out in the bar scene in the Pilot. Rushton does stunts on the show and presumably appears in several episodes, which I think thereby technically meets the brief of playing multiple characters (unless there is a case to be made that Rushton plays a recurring character role? which could be an interesting take). But either way, shout out to all the dS stunt folks!
IMDb specifically credits Rushton for appearances in Diefenbaker's Day Off (S1E2), A Cop, a Mountie and a Baby (S1E9), You Must Remember This (S1E11), and One Good Man(S2E8).

Uh this is for to see if more potential ships or friendships/interactions with your ocs for these few? Is fine if just 1 option for each.
Duane Devlin Neville Alexandre & Adalene
Send me ocs
For Duane I feel Gregory and Bengal would mostly just welcome a fellow rocker into their circle and also Gregory would vibe with the goth aesthetic... although I am unsure if boths low intelligence might put them off. But musically the three would have a lot to share and could hang out at award shows. I can also see Julian and April chat with him about the occult. And as said Eiji might find him pretty.
Kaeru and Devlin for sure be fishing buddies... but also it be funny if Devlin got close to Kayne and found out he was previously an assassin geeking about it while Kayne just is worried about it... he would love to cook the fish he catches though.
Neville gotta go with Paula being a social media bestie on his side... she could make him tough against internet hate and share cute aesthetic photos where they just chat a lot. Peko also has friend potential... and... I can see Barry grow weak to his pretty cute look...
Fennec and Carol be probably fine studying friends with Alexandre... Carol being one who visits this dorm much anyways and doesn't mind joining while Fennec is an adventure expert and could offer great experience and ideas...
Adalene maybe could vibe with Gabrielle who could be a good sparring partner and make her a nice sword... aside that... Pamela could be a friend who is more accepting and make her cookies. Camilla also being close to a Lady knight but being strict could be interesting for them to go from bickering to respect.

WWTG22: The Welcome Ball 2.0; Prim’s version
“Don’t worry, I’m a good enough dancer for the both of us,” she whispered, as the first notes of the waltz began to play.
Primrose started to dance, and Malcolm was still nervous and tense. She whispered “Breathe. Right now, the only thing that matters is us.” She gently squeezed her hand into his shoulder as a reassurance, and kept guiding him, their eyes never parting from the other. a sky blue meeting the blue sea, like Gaia and Uranus found one another again.
Though her heart was racing, she told herself that she’d be the one who was calm and collected. She whispered him to follow her lead and think of nothing else but the dance. He spun her around, and Primrose’s breath caught in her lungs, but said nothing of it. His rather big shoe nearly stopped on her, but Primrose’s quick feet prevented it, and Malcolm nodded her thank you.
The next step was for Malcolm to pick her up and he did, and was surprised of how light she was. He easily spun her around, and slowly put her on the floor, their noses nearly touching. She prayed that Elian was far enough not to hear her heartbeat, that was as quick as a hummingbird. His hand moved to her lower back and dipped her, and she took a deep breath, collecting her thoughts. When she came back to him, they were close again-- too close. She could hear him gulp, and she was glad that she was not the only one.
With one last spin, the song stopped and everyone clapped. Malcolm gently kissed her hand and she curtsied to him, her cheeks warm from the activity “I look forward our next dance.”
“As do I. You’re an excellent teacher, Lady Gray.”
She smiled and he left, probably to drink champagne. She could notice a presence behind her, and she quickly spun around to find Henry, and she sighed of relief. He was quick to ask her to dance, as they had done every Christmas. Primrose smiled “Thought you’d never ask.”
The minuet started, and they went to the dancefloor, and the guests clapped, glad to see the iconic couple back into the dancefloor. Henry politely bowed, and so did Primrose, and soon began dancing, imitating the other’s gestures and talking back-and-forth, teasing one another “It’s a crying same you can’t dance with Elian, truly.”
“It’s fine. Last thing we want is to cause you another scandal. You’ve got enough in your plate with Lord Archibald and your dissolved engagement to Mr. Devlin.”
She nodded, and enjoyed the last minutes of the minuet, bowing again and everyone clapped. When everyone started talking to one another and Henry was gone, she beckoned her trusted valet, Ms. Barry, to come to her, “Aye, my lady?”
“When everyone goes to bed, please ask Mr. Goldcrest and His Highness to come here. Lit a few candles as well.”
“Of course, ma’am. Anything else?”
“Yes. Do keep this to yourself.”
“As you wish, my lady.”
She smiled and turned around to find a nervous William Devlin waiting for her conversation to end. He bowed politely and asked “May I have this next dance?”
She nodded, now a bit nervous-- she had done many events with Mr. Devlin, but this time, all eyes would be on them. This had been agreed between Lord Carlisle and her father to show everyone there was no bad blood between the families and that all was well.
The moment the country dance started, Prim sighed relieved. Though very jumpy and with far more movement, it was lighthearted and fun to do. The jolly song started, and William and Primrose started to dance and spin, and soon the majority of guests joined, forgetting for a moment their troubles. William and Primrose spun around, and she couldn’t help but laugh, and so did he. Soon, the dance ended and they bowed to one another, breathless and smiling. The applause was sound and everyone whispered about how good they got along.
When she went for a small bottle of champagne, she spotted the Earl of Wexford holding a scented handkerchief. It had the initials N.S embroidered beautifully and whispered “Missing a certain sultana, are you?”
He gasped, waking from his trance and nodded, fully knowing he couldn’t fool the lady “I was wondering if she would’ve accepted to be here, should she had remained in England. She’s probably to marry a Pasa of the empire.”
“What if she isn’t? If I’ve learnt something this past year, is that true love finds its way back where they belong.”
“And where is that, my lady?”
Primrose smiled “Where they are loved.”
She curstied and left, sipping her champagne and spotting her father talking to Jesse Seymour. A wave of feelings came over her. She still loved her father, but was hurt and betrayed of his role in her engagement and his true intentions. He looked over his shoulder and spotted her. He grinned at her, but she just couldn’t. His confession still hurt.
She emptied the glass and went over to talk to Miss Fawley, who was trying to keep track of a conversation between her fiancé and a guest she was yet to recognize.
Midnight fell upon Winbourne, and Elian was looking for Primrose. When he saw candlelight in the hall, he went there... to find an equally confused Henry, who was looking for her as well. They both were surprised and delighted to find one another there “Elian. Primrose summoned you here as well?”
“Yes. I wonder where that girl is.”
Henry was about to propose to look for her when another candle was lit and a beautifully romantic sonata started playing... with Primrose there, sitting in front of the gigantic piano. Elian chuckled and Henry smiled.
Elian offered his hand “May I have this dance, Your Royal Highness?”
Henry beamed, playing alone “You may, Mr. Goldcrest.”
Primrose kept playing as both men danced in the small but intimate candlelight. focused on no one but them. Henry was smiling wide, and Elian had a small smile on his lips, clearly glad he got to dance with Henry in the end, with no scrutiny. Impossible to miss the sparks between them, who put to shame electricity itself.
At one point, Henry rested his head on Elian’s shoulder and Elian rested his on Henry’s head, both savouring this rare moment. Primrose gave them one more minute, making the song a bit longer. Then, she got up and told them to enjoy a few minutes more and they promised not to leave evidence.
Content to have helped the lovers, she headed upstairs to her room, but not without glancing at Malcolm’s.
