Batfamily + Cooking
Alfred:
He's the main cook, and has been since taking the job as the Wayne's butler. Classically trained in the culinary arts, and thankfully stillvery much enjoys it, though not as much as he used to. He likes baking more than cooking, and has gotten more of a sweet tooth as he's gotten older. Leans more on your classic British dishes, but is always happy to try a requested recipe. Prefers to cook either alone or with competent help.
Bruce:
No. Cannot even be trusted to make a grilled cheese, he always burns them.
Barbara:
Pretty good. Very much a 'throw something together at 7:30, eat at 8' kind of person, but everyone is always happy to have what she cooks. If it takes hours to make then its not worth it. A teacher suggested once that being raised by a single father, she must do most of the cooking and cleaning, and after that she refused to learn how to cook out of sheer stubbornness.
Dick:
An excellent cook. I think it comes naturally to him, he didn't spend much time cooking growing up but once he taught himself the basics he can pretty much throw anything together. Its by no means a passion of his, but he does enjoy it. However, he doesn't cook often due to being too busy and/or tired, so he gets a lot of takeout or just has something quick or microwavable very often. But if he's cooking you best be there. Anything can be a social occasion and he happily accepts help in the kitchen. Not great at baking though, he always manages to over-cook or over-mix.
Cassandra:
I'm sorry but she will throw rice, water, and and an unseasoned chicken breast in the rice cooker and call it a night. Either that or she'll have a protein shake and seven eggs.
Jason:
Quite good. Unlike Dick, it doesn't come naturally to him, but he is a fast learner and picked it up mostly from Catherine, Alfred, and YouTube. That being said, would he prefer tortellini en brodo or four boxes of Kraft mac and cheese? Tamales or something quick and greasy from Bat Burger? Its always the second option. I think he often cooks as a distraction or just something to do, and just gives it to the single mother across the hall or throws it in the freezer to eat a week later.
Stephanie:
Decent. She'll see a recipe on TikTok and will try it instantly, and she's always excited to try something new. Works best with a recipe but decides just to wing it mostly. Cooking with her mother has become somewhat of a bonding activity. Really good at baking, especially things like brownies and cookies. However, she will also throw pickles, peanut butter and ice cream in a blender and swear it tastes fantastic. Is learning to cook more because everytime she sees Cass eating a boiled chicken breast she takes psychic damage. Trying to sneak meat alternatives into Cass without her noticing. It worked once.
Tim:
Not great. Will follow the recipe to the letter and will somehow still fuck it up. He mostly sticks to simple recipes that are hard to mess up, and also just doesn't have the desire to spend heaps of time in the kitchen. He does make a mean sandwich though, every time someone tries to replicate one its just never as good.
Duke:
Doesn't particularly enjoy cooking but he's fine at it. Not as bad as Cassandra, he will season his food, but prefers it to be quick and not complicated. Loves heavier foods like pastas and other carbs but doesn't have the patience or desire to make them from scratch so he uses jar sauces, frozen potatoes etc. Will put taco seasoning on everything.
Damian:
Good eventually. Doesn't cook a lot now, but when he was younger he had a kind of 'well obviously its not difficult, its just cooking' mindset. He was humbled. By Dick. I think when he's older he is much better. Will still follow a recipe so it is perfect every time. It isn't a hobby, just a task that must be completed, but he'll be damned if he's eating bland food, he will spend an hour preparing vegetable tagine. Nobody can help of even be in the kitchen with him while he is cooking, because they are breathing all the kitchen air and taking up all the room. Get out.

Barbara: It appears I'm the only one in this household who cooks.
Dick: Excuse you, I do cook .
Barbara, raising an eyebrow: Dick, heating up leftovers isn't cooking.
Dick: I know, but–
Barbara: Darling, you've burnt rice.
Dick: Hey, rice cooking is hard!
Barbara: In the rice cooker?
Dick: Oh, give me a break, I got a call and that was one time.

So:
Dennis in s6 is desperate for a marriage that he married Maureen. He wanted to be married, a reality in which two people have an emotional bond. He tried to have that with a woman his age but it fails because she doesn’t offer him the connection he wants.
In s7 e8 he agrees with Charlie’s assessment about social media and how it ruins human connection. Then says that whenever those people hear other having a real conversation, they shush them. They ruin the connection that he’s having.
We find out in s7 e11 that Dennis has long talks with his hookups (so you don’t have a great relationship w/your father) that are inherently emotional. Under the pretense that it’s with the system but this the first hookup. Not the one after he traumatizes the girl that leads to the “most emotional” and “best bang” of all. He connects to them. They’re younger women, they’re easier to connect with and talk to.
In Tends Bar, he wants the Gang to acknowledge his emotional needs. And wanted some form of connection with the Gang. He sees that Mac can offer him that and meet his emotional needs.
In the s12 finale, he feels a connection to his son. Instead of staying with the Gang who’s system is to move on the second they fail, he goes to where he believes he’ll have a connection.
In Frank v. Russia, his system is about connection, on a deeper level. He wants these men to view them as their mommy. Creating an emotional connection, however artificial.
Then here in the s16 finale. All he wanted was a person to connect with him. He didn’t want to talk to a machine he wanted real human connection. He continued to imagine Mac meeting and understanding his needs. He remembers the faces of everyone he walked past in order to concoct the situation in which he crushes a man’s heart into a diamond and eats it (while he imagined Mac trying to create diamonds from a pressure cooker, something’s there I’m sure). The idea of connecting with someone (to the point that he eats the diamond heart but like that’s just standard Dennis things) actively lowers his blood pressure.
Instead of putting himself in an imaginative bubble where he immediately connects with someone. He HAS to put himself through tremendous amounts of anger and frustration. That’s what makes the connection work. He went through all of that and that makes the connection with the dude so much more cathartic in his mind.
All this while he can’t recognize that that’s what he wants. That he only goes after younger women for plenty of reasons, one of which being that older women have consistently hurt him (his mom being uh, Barbara Reynolds and Ms. Klinsky). He cant go for a woman older than him because of that. He’s never met a woman his age that will connect with him the way he wants (He can’t seem to allow himself to fully connect with Dee). To the point that the women in his fantasy are constantly being the subject of his anger even if it is because of a system. He’s still yelling at these women.
It’s worth noting that he’s angry at the people who created a system. He’s created multiple. Multiple systems that have complicated and convoluted steps.
Then when he had that moment of connection it’s with a man. Because always, his emotional and human needs were met by a man.
He has always wanted human connection.
Anyway, fun episode im very normal about this.

My partner's parents emailed to ask for our Christmas wish list, as they do every year, which is so very generous of them. I think that they typically spend $75 on everyone (i.e., their 5 children and their children's spouses/partners (me!)/children) each year, but I can't in good conscience ask for $75 worth of stuff. So, I told my partner to forget about a new rice cooker and, instead, sent along three Amazon links for three CDs that I want, namely, the three most recent albums that one of my favorite classical pianists, Víkingur Ólafsson, has put out: Mozart & Contemporaries, From Afar (pieces from J. S. Bach to Thomas Adès), and J. S. Bach: Goldberg Variations. In the past, if there was money left over, my partner's parents just sent along a small Amazon gift card to make up the difference. I kinda hope that they do the same this year. I wanted to also include the link for the Emerson String Quartet's last (as in, very last since they've now retired) album, Infinite Voyage, which features awesome collaborations with Barbara Hannigan and Bertrand Chamayou in repertoire by Arnold Schoenberg, Paul Hindemith, Alban Berg, and Ernest Chausson, but I just couldn't bring myself to impose on them beyond the three Ólafsson CDs, which will come out to approximately $50.

Grief
BY BARBARA CROOKER
is a river you wade in until you get to the other side.
But I am here, stuck in the middle, water parting
around my ankles, moving downstream
over the flat rocks. I'm not able to lift a foot,
move on. Instead, I'm going to stay here
in the shallows with my sorrow, nurture it
like a cranky baby, rock it in my arms.
I don't want it to grow up, go to school, get married.
It's mine. Yes, the October sunlight wraps me
in its yellow shawl, and the air is sweet
as a golden Tokay. On the other side,
there are apples, grapes, walnuts,
and the rocks are warm from the sun.
But I'm going to stand here,
growing colder, until every inch
of my skin is numb. I can't cross over.
Then you really will be gone.
This poem’s connotation is loss and grief. The poet is describing her refusal to let go, her refusal to move on or to attempt to heal; because that would make the death finalized and real. The poet depicts being unable to move forward, to allow her grief to change, to face the reality that life goes on and can still be enjoyable without her loved one. She can see that life is good on the other side, but she is comforted in her misery because it is all she has left of who passed. The poem is aesthetic because of its figurative language and the way the author uses imagery to describe a physical scene to paint a picture of grief. The theme of the poem is holding on, even though it is known that moving forward is the only way to feel better. The central image of the poem is the river and the woman standing in it. The poem uses lots of metaphors and figurative language, referring to her grief as a river, to her sorrow as a cranky baby, and to the result of her moving on as warm, sunlit rocks and fruit. It describes the air as being as “sweet as a golden Tokay” because although she is suffering, life is still pleasant beyond the veil of her grief. Barbara Cooker says “It’s mine.” because she doesn’t want time to take it away or to make the person a part of the past. She does a fantastic job of transferring her feelings to the reader.

adam & barbara taking care of someone who’s sick
barb:
mom instincts kick in immediately
will only show a little bit of worry by furrowing her brows and scrunching up her lips for a second when you first seem ill. it’s brief, but she doesn’t want to stress anyone out by visibly fussing
takes all of what you’re telling her 100% seriously
does whatever she can! takes your temperature, gets you a cold cloth, super encourages taking medicine if it may help
gets you comfortable in bed or on the couch or wherever with blankets and pillows
she’ll check in on you frequently to see how you’re feeling, but not in a helicopter-y way. it’s sweet
adam:
offers to run to the store and get anything you might need, especially in the realm of medicine or snacks
encourages that you have a stuffed animal/pillow or something else to hold. yes, charles, he knows you’re a grown man. take the kitty plush
as soon as barbara starts to get you settled he’ll split immediately to the kitchen
makes soup. will make the best chicken noodle soup you’ve had in your life. whatever type of noodle you prefer (egg, drop dumplings, etc)
he gets on it super quickly too so you can eat as soon as you’re feeling capable
romantically, the both of them would smother their partner with attention. “but i’m sick,” you might say! this will not stop them from giving you lots of forehead kisses. adam will sit and stroke your hair if that’s what you’d like, or rub your back. barbara will read or sing to you. they’d definitely check in on you together, especially once you fall asleep, and spend a moment just looking at you all happily

Hi there, could I possibly get some headcanons of Albedo, Xiao and Kaeya caring for their sick s/o? I haven't been feeling the best lately ^^"
penpal: sure thing, forgive me if this is too short! i hope you feel well soon 🥰
characters: albedo, kaeya, xiao
warning/s: none
Tumblr media
man’s lowkey worried for you
If you try to insist that you’re okay (while coughing), he won’t believe you.
Kaeya will bring Barbara home to check you up in case it’s not just a simple cold that will go away. When Barbara said it’s just a cold, he’ll be relieved but still worried.
He’ll literally pause his calvary captain duties just to stay at home and take care of you.
If the sickness is that bad to make you puke, Kaeya will be there for you, carressing your back comfortingly as you puke your guts out.
I see Kaeya as a decent cooker so he’ll def cook some lotus soup or radish veggie soup.
He’ll either go to a pharmacy (if there’s even one in Mondstadt) or to Albedo to get you some medicine.
Kaeya is very different when you’re sick, that’s for sure. He’s sincere and caring (with a dash of playful) and will do anything to make sure you’re okay.
In case there’s an emergency that requires Kaeya’s assistance (despite him saying he’s gonna take the day off), he’ll try to ask someone like Amber, Lisa, or even Diluc to keep you company before giving you a hug and leave.
If you spend all day thinking of him while he’s away, he’s thinking of you too. He won’t admit it but all he can think about is your wellbeing and if you’re being taken care of while going on his mission.
As soon as he’s done with the mission, expect him to rush home with speed (sonic better watch out)
Kaeya will make sure you’re very comfortable. Want a pillow? Coming right away! Want to get out for fresh air? No worries, Kaeya can open the windows instead! Want cuddles? Sure! Just make sure to take care of Kaeya when he gets your cold too!
Don’t even try to sneak out just to do your job, he’ll know what you’re gonna do. If you still insist— he’ll literally carry you bridal-style to the bed.
“Darling what are you doing out from the bed?”
“I need to go to my job, I’m really am okay Kaeya.”
“Nonsense! Didn’t Barbara tell you to get some rest so you can feel better soon?”
Tumblr media
Albedo would be very calm throughout your cold.
He may value his experiments but not as much as he values your health and well-being.
I can see Albedo as someone who isn’t very experienced in the health department since he doesn’t get sick and isn’t his forte but he is willing to research on it (with the help of Barbara) just for you!
He’ll make some potions that can help you heal and make sure there are no side effects that makes it worse.
If you keep on persisting on Albedo that you’re okay, he won’t have it.
He’ll take days off just to make sure you’re being taken care of cause only god knows what you’d do when he’s away.
Albedo will either cook or buy foods that can help you feel well. He’ll even spoon-feed you despite you being able to feed yourself.
While you’re asleep, he’ll either go to his office to research on his experiments or sketch his surroundings.
He can’t help but sketch you while you’re asleep hehe
Once you start to feel better, that’s when Albedo can go back to his lab in the K.O.F. Headquarters (but not Dragonspine since it’s far away from your place)— while making sure you have good company with someone the both of you trust ofc
That doen’t mean that he’ll stop taking care of you. You’re still sick after all so he’ll think about you all day.
The moment he goes home, he rushes to your bedroom and ask if you need anything.
Want massages? He’s not good at it but he’ll try! Want cuddles? Sure thing! Want soup? Coming right up!
He’ll lowkey be confused and panic though if he doesn’t see you resting on your bed and will find you around the house.
“Y/N— what are you doing out of your bed?”
“Oh welcome home, Albedo! I just *cough* need to get myself some *cough* *cough* medicine!”
“And where is Sucrose?”
“Oh don’t fret, I told the poor *cough* girl to go home moments ago! I don’t wanna bother Sucrose to waste her time on me— besides, I can stand up and walk around now so there’s no need to *cough* worry.”
“*sigh* just please go back to bed, N/N.”
Tumblr media
Please help this confused man.
Xiao def dunno how to handle your sickness so he’ll go to Verr Goldet about it while you’re asleep.
Man lowkey thought you gonna die or smthn
He’ll literally just stand by the doorway and wait for your instructions in case you need anything 🧍‍♂️
Pls forgive this man for not knowing what to do
Xiao won’t go out of your home until during night times when he can patrol around the area in case there’s monsters nearby. He’s THAT willing to stay just to make sure you’ll be okay.
When it comes to you puking your guts out, he’ll be there for you and make sure nothing is covering your face while looking at you in concern.
With the help of Verr, he’d bring you some soup to eat and watch you just in case you might get yourself hurt. The last thing he wants in this world is you being in pain when you already are.
This is honestly one of the first times you’ve seen the yaksha so worried and panic-ish.
Xiao’s willing to go to Liyue just to buy some medicine for you from the Bubu Pharmacy and if he has the chance, he might stopover to where Zhongli is for some tips on how to take care of a sick person.
If you ever feel uncomfy from your bed, he will immediately help you out in trying to make your bed more comfortable and do whatever he can to make you sleep well.
He’ll be somewhere in the room while you’re on bedrest, making sure nothing is going to disturb you from outside and inside.
Once your sickness starts to get better, that’s when he starts feeling relieved (but still lowkey worried)
He really doesn’t want you to feel in pain or unwell, seeing you in that state makes him worried and he’ll do anything to make sure you’ll feel better soon.
Hell he might bring Venti home just to make him play his songs to you and help you sleep better if he can.
“Uhm... Xiao?”
“..yes?”
“Who is *cough* this person?”
“Well—”
“Why hello there! Xiao has told me so many things about you, I’m Venti by the way!”
Cue Xiao lowkey questioning his choices

genshin impact hydro Elements
Genshin Impact has quickly become one of the most popular online games in recent memory. With its vibrant world, colorful characters, and deep battle mechanics, it's no wonder why players have been drawn to the game. One of the key elements of Genshin Impact is its use of hydro elements for battle. Players can use hydro elements to craft powerful weapons and armors, as well as summon powerful Elemental Beings to assist them in battle. In this blog post, we will explore all that you need to know about hydro elements in Genshin Impact; from how to best utilize them in battle to what items they can be combined with!
Tumblr media
How to Use Hydro in Genshin Impact
Hydro is one of the five elements in Genshin Impact. It is associated with the element of water and is strong against fire. Hydro can be used to healing, crowd control, and damage enemies. Healing: Hydro can be used to heal characters in Genshin Impact. When a character is low on health, using a Hydro skill will restore some of their health. This can be useful in keeping characters alive during tough battles. Crowd Control: Hydro skills can also be used to control crowds of enemies. Using Hydro skills will knock enemies back and create a small area of effect that will slow down enemies who enter it. This can be useful for giving players time to escape or reposition themselves during battle. Damage: Hydro skills can also deal damage to enemies. When an enemy is hit with a Hydro skill, they will take Water damage over time. This damage will stack if multiple Hydro skills are used on the same enemy.
The Best Hydro Characters in Genshin Impact
There are many strong hydro characters in Genshin Impact, but these are the best of the best. 1. Diona – Diona is a powerful support character who can heals her allies and deal damage to her enemies with her Hydro skills. 2. Barbara – Barbara is a tanky character who can absorb a lot of damage and protect her allies with her Hydro shields. 3. Qiqi – Qiqi is a DPS character who deals massive damage to her enemies with her Hydro skills. 4. Sucrose – Sucrose is a utility character who can buff her allies and debuff her enemies with her Hydro skills. 5. Fischl – Fischl is a DPS character who can deal massive damage to her enemies with her Electro-charged arrows.
Hydro Elemental Reactions
In Genshin Impact, Hydro is one of the five elements. It is associated with water and ice. The Hydro Element can be used to create reactions with other elements, such as the Anemo Element, to create new effects. When a character with the Hydro Element attacks an enemy with the Anemo Element, they will create a Vacuum Zone. This will suck in all nearby enemies and deal damage to them over time. If a character with the Hydro Element attacks an enemy with the Pyro Element, they will create a Steam Cloud. This will damage and stagger all nearby enemies. The Hydro Element can also be used to heal allies. When a character with the Hydro Element uses their Elemental Skill on an ally, they will heal them for a small amount of health.
Hydro Cooking Recipes
Looking for some recipes that make use of the hydro element? Here are a few to get you started! 1. Hydro Chicken Teriyaki: This dish is healthy and flavorful, and can be made in just a few minutes using a hydro cooker. Simply marinate chicken breasts in a teriyaki sauce, then cook them in the hydro cooker until they are cooked through. Serve with rice and steamed vegetables for a complete meal. 2. Hydro Salmon with Lemon and Dill: This recipe is perfect for those who want to enjoy the taste of fresh salmon without having to deal with cooking it themselves. Simply place a piece of salmon fillet in the hydro cooker, then top with lemon slices and dill sprigs. Cook for about 15 minutes, or until the salmon is cooked through. Serve with mashed potatoes or steamed rice and vegetables. 3. Hydro Vegetable Soup: This soup is packed full of healthy veggies, and can be made easily in a hydro cooker. Simply add all of your favorite veggies to the cooker, along with some broth or water, then cook until the veggies are tender. Season to taste with salt and pepper, then serve hot topped with shredded cheese or croutons.
Conclusion
The Hydro element in Genshin Impact has a lot to offer players, from its wide range of characters and abilities to the strategic benefits it provides when battling monsters. With the right strategy, you can use the elemental weaknesses of your foes against them while also buffing up your squad with Hydro's unique support spells. Whether you are new to Genshin Impact or an experienced player looking for ways to level up their team, learning how to utilize the Hydro Element is an essential part of building a powerful party.

Carrebeean, Here we are!!!
As I said before: 5783 nautical miles we sailed towards this little paradise where we are still on quarantine anchorage. Waiting on the PCR result is always making me a bit nervous, especially this time. If we are tested negative, we have the chance here in Grenada to get the AstraZeneca vaccines and we will travel much freer than we do now.
But no boredom: a little leak in the hand wash basin, try to clean the mud off ELITSHA, friends and family to speak to, small other repairs, taking the lead in UBUNTU again since we have full and unlimited internet on board, planning and booking Zora’s and Su’s tickets towards us, baking bread again and of course swimming and snorkelling.
But let me talk first a little bit about Suriname and our short sail to Grenada. Suriname was for a long time a Dutch colony. Since 1975, this country is the smallest independent state in South America. The previous president unfortunately abused his power and all the resources the beautiful country has, for example gold, aluminium, oil, bananas got exported unwisely and the profit went into the presidents and his friend’s pockets. That is what Surinamers were telling us. In the meantime, there is a new president, but there is Corona as well. The ECO tourism, Suriname was good and well known for, stands still and the country is in a bad state and shape. At the banks of the Suriname river, entering Suriname, you see big and then I mean really big villas. According to the locals they belong to friends of the former president and to drug lords. A very familiar story to us South Africans. The Netherlands is still involved and helps where they can, but a few days after we left Suriname they closed the country: total lockdown. Just above 500 000 people live in Suriname and most of them in and close to Paramaribo. People are currently getting infected and dying in huge numbers from Corona: not enough hospital beds, not enough vaccinations, not enough oxygen……… not enough doctors and nurses. Their rainy season is terrible this year due to the ELNino effect and its really tuff for the poor population. After a good week in the Marina and a road trip through the rural part of the country to a big dam where people are searching for gold, visiting banana plantations, visiting Paramaribo with a lot of rain we said goodbye to the populated part of Suriname together with Elitsha and we sailed into the Commewijne river. This was so romantic and special. The jaguars, caiman and anacondas were too scared of us, hahahahha. We did not see them, but we heard and enjoyed the voices of the jungle, saw and heard millions of birds, parrots and all kind of other noises. It was magical.  Three days we were totally one with nature, did not see any human being, together with Elitsha.
Coming back from Commewijne river was coming back to happy reggae life. Looking for a spot ashore to get our dingy on board for the trip to Grenada, a fisher of New Amsterdam waved us to come next to his fisher boat. Loud reggae music and a very friendly crew invited us for coffee, tea and biscuits……….and dagga and rum………..Unfortunately, we had to say thank you no (dagga and rum out of question, of course). The threat of getting infected just before we go back to sea again for a couple of days made us kindly refusing the offer. Even though we chatted a while with them and they helped us to get the dingy motor on board. And that’s how Surinamers are, chatty, always happy to assist and help, curious and interested about who you are. As I mentioned before people told us in advanced, that coming to South or Central America or the Caribbean with a South African flag would ask for problems. That was one of the reasons why we registered Elitsha in Germany. But we always say that we are from Cape Town, we don’t hide that and up to now we had no bad experiences. People are impressed that we come from that far to visit their small country and want to know if we like it. They loved the fact that we speak Dutch, because Dutch is still the first language in Suriname. Anyway, after chatting to the fishermen, we tied everything nicely, slept a short night and left New Amsterdam and Suriname at 6 am on the 25th of May.
Aware of the thread of Venezuelan pirates (Surinamers and NOON site (cruiser website) informed us about it), we sailed at a safe distance from the coast. Even though we choose to pass trough the Galleon’s passage between Trinidad and Tobago, but we choose to pass it close to the Tobago side,  away of the Venezuelan coast. On our way we saw a fair number of oil platforms, huge ones, with huge flames, we could see from far. This was also a bit spooky. We had 35 to 40 knots of wind and a good speed to leave the oil area and the Galleon’s passage behind us. I think, pirates do not like rain. We had tons of rain and no pirates though……..although: Dick told me later, that 40 miles out of both coasts, the Grenadian and the Tobagonian, a fast open boat with 3 men in it sped past us. We think they were checking us out, how rich we are. The stretch between Tobago and Grenada apparently is also declared as an unsafe area. That is what we heard later when we arrived in Grenada. Our neigor, Steve, always has a gun with him. Happily, with enough wind and a strong currant we passed Tobago at 4:30 in the morning and arrived safely in Grenada at 17:00 on the 28th of May.
Close to the harbour at the quarantine anchorage we spoke to our South African friends of the Aventura, a young couple with 2 dogs and his parents on their way to emigrate to Panama. We saw them in every harbour we visited up to now. They left Suriname a few days earlier then we did. They craved for blue water and thought jaguar, caiman and anaconda would perhaps love their dogs too much. In any way, nice to see them again. They explained the Grenadian procedures to us and on Saturday we went ashore to register with the health department. We inhaled the positive and relaxed Grenadian vibe immediately: steel drum music from the taverns, people on the streets, Corona is almost dealt with.
And in the meantime, 1 week in St George, we are declared negative and are allowed to explore the island. Paul, a registered tour guide grabbed his chance. Slandering around the harbour he almost forced us to have a tour with him.  The cruise ships are missed by restaurants, tour guides…not by us. Paul told us, that they on “good” days had 6000 tourists from cruise ships ashore. Dick and I were quite happy to escape these “good“ days. Pity for Paul, that’s why we went with him on a long trip through St. George at noon and let him earn some ECDs.  Hot and up and down, I was exhausted at the end. We didn’t walk much for the last 2 months at least..
Grenada is the spice island: nutmeg, gloves, cinnamon, and other spices grow here. They have a golden waterfall and many more attractions. We will explore them all and share with you. For now, we experienced the spicy side of the island by drinking shandies with nutmeg, eating ice cream with nutmeg and gloves and some other weird things you would think its really ugg, but in reality it’s absolutely amazing.
We are registered for Astra Zeneca vaccination and yes, we are in a marina with a nice club house and WIFI and not on anchorage or at a mooring buoy. For the first time in almost 3 months, I am able to go and stay where I want on my own. For somebody like me, who likes her independence, its heaven. Opposite of our little paradise, there is another marina, posh and expensive and not really our style. Elitsha, would feel a bit lonely between all the posh-million dollar-yachts. I don’t know, if I mentioned before, that a lot of other cruisers, have fancy and well-equipped boats with freezers, bread baking automates, washing machine, water cooker……. you name it. Our only luxury is a fridge, a BBQ and a good stove with oven, cosy and exactly what we need no more and no less. Anyway, Elitsha got a good clean-up. Sticky, a local guy, Dick and I made her looking pretty again. The water of the Suriname river was dirty through mud and chemicals, they use for the gold extraction industry, we learned. And this was very difficult to get off the hull-0987654Qasdfuiop[.
My home office is in the marina’s clubhouse, with more than brilliant views!          Unfortunately, UBUNTU for Africa’s operations manager, who took over financials and admin of the NGO from me, resigned a few days ago. That’s why I am back on the job and working every day for an hour or 3. Alene Edson Smith, local social worker, who was already involved in the family program and took over my job at Kronendal Primary, is doing the hands-on jobs, where you have to be involved personally onsite, like team meetings, meetings with principals etc. For now, we won’t have stretches which will take more than 3 days and we have internet and WIFI. No problem to work though. I love my work as much as I love cruising. To combine both is absolutely great.
For the rest the NGO is in good hands, with our after-care team, Barbara Heye, who is mentor to a single mother with 3 kids. And as I mentioned before Alene Edson Smith, well known in the valley through her involvement through her own NGO, Serenity, took over the reins at Kronendal Primary from me and is mentor to 5 families in our NGO. We share the lead of UBUNTU for Africa. What I can do, I will do, where personal presence is needed, Alene will be hands on. She will lead the sound and music studio, which will release their first CD soon. Lelo managed to get 2 new volunteers into this project, for marimba and music production. Ricardo will remain taking the lead on Silikamva side and Alene will have a firm look and hand on the project.
After care is just running. Andiswa and her team also get support from Alene. But this team of 5 is just doing what they can do best: love our children and supervise, support, teach them and make sure that they are safe.
 Questions for the kids:
1.       How many kilometres did we sail from Cape Town to Grenada?
2.       Which language do the people speak in Suriname?
3.       What kind of currency do we used in Suriname and which one in         Grenada?
4.       Please explain, what the modern pirates of the Caribbean are up to.
5.       What is the name of the small entrance to the Caribbean between Trinidad and Tobago?
 Sponsor sail:
For the ones who want to take part in our sponsor sail: We have sailed 1812 nautical miles. You can donate a cent, a Rand, a Euro or whatever per nautical mile. We are sailing for these amazing schools: every nautical mile and each Rand counts. To UBUNTU for Africa,German  NGO.
The money will go to the UBUNTU for Africa projects: after care at Hout Bay Primary School and the music project at Silikamva High School. This organisation I started 12 years ago (www.ubuntuforafrica.com) Of course, you will receive a tax certificate.

I worked for 10 years at Kronendal Primary as a school counsellor. This school struggles financially due to the consequences of the Covid Pandemic and deserves our support.

Psych 2: Lassie Come Home Easter Egg and Reference Guide
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
The following contains spoilers for Psych 2: Lassie Come Home.
As fun as 2017’s Psych: The Movie was, its 2020 sequel Psych 2: Lassie Come Home will likely supplant it in Psych-Os’ hearts, because it’s got 500% more Carlton Lassiter (Timothy Omundson). But how does it stack up to its predecessor in terms of Psych callbacks and pop culture homages? Using our Spencer powers of observation, we’ve tried to catch every recurring inside joke between Shawn (James Roday Rodriguez) and Gus (Dulé Hill), plus all the episodic-specific bits. It’s a feature-length Hitchcock homage, but it’s also the toughest Easter egg hunt of your life. C’mon, son!
Psych 2: Lassie Come Home Easter Eggs and References
The title is a reference to Lassie Come Home, the 1943 Lassie movie about the beloved dog making her way home from Scotland. A German-language remake came out early in 2020.
It’s always a treat to hear the Psych theme song “I Know, You Know,” performed by creator Steve Franks and his band The Friendly Indians.
Lassiter wakes up to Shawn and Gus hovering above him at the recovery clinic is a throwback to when they kidnapped him for his bachelor party in “Deez Nups” and he came to with them screaming “Surpriiise!”
Morrissey the rescue dog reprises his role from Psych: The Movie in being adorable, incredibly nosy, and oblivious to Shawn’s hissing commands.
Sarah Chalke’s nurse character Dolores is most likely a nod to San Francisco’s Mission Dolores church and cemetery, the location for Carlotta Valdes’ grave in Vertigo.
Right out the gate, Dolores is treated to the requisite Gus nickname: “My name is Shawn Spencer, and this is my partner Bill Poopingtons.” However, Shawn and Gus take a sidebar for a very meta argument about their ongoing bit (while fitting in another bit):
“Gus, don’t be the night your dad fell asleep inside your mom. We can’t just stop doing bits we’ve been doing for ten years. We have fans, they have expectations, there’ll be a huge backlash.”
“Shawn, we are two dumbasses, we do not have fans.”
Compromise: Gus gets right of refusal until they land on a nickname he prefers. And so:
Bill Poopingtons > All the Pips in One
Ding-Dong Ditch > Claude O’Dern > Big Poppa Pump > Lemon-a Lemon-a Lemon-a Liiime
Leggo My Eggo > Norman Brown Butter > Dijon Hounsou
Gus also calls himself Jermajesty, channeling some Jackson Five energy.
“Black Jello” was Gus’ nickname in their adult dodgeball league.
The Herschel House is likely a nod to Herschel Daugherty, who directed over two dozen episodes of Alfred Hitchcock Presents…
Gus and Shawn are still bickering over driving the drivers ed car, even if we don’t see it in the movie. They do manage to be just as bad at turning the right direction when riding a motorcycle together.
“Now I know this ‘goofy little white guy/sexy black dude’ routine the two of you have going like the back of my scrubs.” Sarah Chalke played Elliot on Scrubs, whose JD/Turk bromance walked so that Shawn/Gus could run.
Shawn calls Dolores “the nurse from Color of Night,” the 1994 Bruce Willis erotic mystery thriller that won a Golden Raspberry for Worst Picture.
The boys get Jamba Juice because you never turn down an opportunity for a Jamba.
Shawn likens Gus’ pubic hair to Eddie Murphy’s mustache in his 1987 stand-up film Raw.
Shawn offers the dismembered hand to Gus to “knuck it up softly,” per their penchant for fist-bumping.
They later do fist-bump outside the old Psych offices, but not before channeling Han Solo and Chewbacca in Star Wars: The Force Awakens: “Gus, we’re home.” “[Wookiee sound]”
Psych has become a French-themed cat café… for now, at least. It’s not an alternative universe from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, but the current subletter’s pop-up business. The proprietor (not the girl from Orphan) is played by Allison Miller, James Roday Rodriguez’s co-star in A Million Little Things.
“I am a psychic. He is a sympathetic pooper.” Poor Gus’ intestinal system gets called out again.
Henry’s (Corbin Bernsen) put-on voice gets compared to Tom Waits, Kathleen Turner, Harvey Fierstein, and Diedrich Bader.
Shawn neglected to tell his landlord that he’d moved, which tracks with his behavior in the series finale “The Break-Up.”
Henry reveals that in addition to telenovelas, he enjoys zeitgeist-y sobfests: “You left behind a slow cooker with a three-pound roast in it. You nearly This Is Us-ed the entire block.”
“This Is Us—Dad, why are you watching that show? They have the same show on ABC but newer”: Shawn’s shoutout to A Million Little Things.
Lassiter mistakes Reese Kessler, his supposed shooter, for country music singer Conway Twitty.
Lassiter’s to-do list includes “tape Galavant,” the short-lived musical comedy fantasy series created by Dan Fogelman (This Is Us), in which Timothy Omundson played King Richard. It also includes items poking fun at Lassiter’s crankiness (“yell at nature,” “chirping bird d-day plan”) and tenacity (“solve black dahlia”), and heartstring-tugging items (“pre-register for ironman” as in the triathlon). He also has written down Shawn’s S.E.I.Z.E. mantra from his short-lived career as Lassiter’s life coach in “S.E.I.Z.E. the Day”: Seize Eggs I don’t know Zebra Eighties.
Juliet (Maggie Lawson) lying to Shawn sounds strange, though not as strange as Lupita Nyong’o—the Tethered Lupita—in Jordan Peele’s Us.
Shawn’s “romantic dinner” for Jules is the menu from A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving (jelly beans, pretzels, buttered toast, popcorn, and ice cream sundaes) because it’s all they had at the gas station on the way home.
That prompts an iconic “C’mon, son!” from Gus.
Gus’ ringtone is “I’m Mr. Bootyman,” which is both Henry’s ringtone and the song featured in Buzz McNab’s bachelorette party stripper routine in “Deez Nups.”
Gus’ (technically Jules’) green snuggie bears a striking resemblance to official Psych contest merch.
Lassiter spotting mysterious bleeding figures out his window is an homage to Rear Window.
Richard Schiff (as Dr. Herschel) was Dulé Hill’s co-star in The West Wing.
Potterhead Gus wants to know if there are any people hiding in the pipes of the Herschel House, “speaking in their own tongue, perhaps Parsel.”
The Psych boys’ map of suspects briefly includes the Hell Hag from Gus’ dreams in “A Nightmare on State Street.”
Shawn has only been to Norway once with his brother-in-law Ewan O’Hara (John Cena), but they don’t talk about that… Maybe that’s where Psych: The Movie went after its cliffhanger ending?
Ova’s Norwegian song/chant toast at the Viking’s Ice Den is very similar to the Swedish toast in “Right Turn or Left for Dead.”
Ova’s violent son Per is first described as “the bearded Daryl Hannah.”
Shawn’s excuse to Detective Buzz McNab (Sage Brocklebank) for being in Santa Barbara is that he forgot a frisbee signed by German writer/director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck.
Shawn’s first reaction to Jules potentially being pregnant: “You know the windows in the loft don’t even fully close, right? I’m gonna have to replace them, otherwise this is Baby’s Day Out all over again.” As Gus reassures him, he always did get worked up over John Hughes’ worst idea.
At the old Psych offices, Shawn pulls out the jousting lance from “100 Clues”—as well as a pineapple! He looks about to ask, “Should we cut this up for the road?” (his question during the pineapple’s first appearance in the pilot, plus at the end of Psych: The Movie) but stops himself.
When Lassie believes that fellow patient Mr. Wilkerson (Kadeem Hardison) has been walking around, Shawn and Gus have to go “full Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” to interrogate the supposedly catatonic patient.
Shoutout to Jessie Spano’s infamous “I’m so excited, I’m so excited, I’m so scared!” speed speech from Saved by the Bell.
If it’s not Scrubs, the boys are getting compared to Ren and Stimpy.
Mary Lightly (Jimmi Simpson) returns in another incredible, extra-hallucinatory look into Shawn’s brain… this time as a baby, since Shawn’s got fatherhood on the brain.
“We got jackaled!” Gus shouts upon learning that Wilkerson can walk—a reference to “hitting the jackal switch,” or going into stealth mode.
Shawn has always had a thing for singer Jewel, even after the Civil War movie (1999’s Ride with the Devil) and the Bollywood song.
Of course there’s a nasty dance when Shawn and Gus figure out who they think is behind everything.
Gus declares that “I am not going to let you shoot Shules’ baby!” only for the Chief (Kirsten Nelson) to ask, “What’s a Shules?” That’s the fans’ name for Shawn/Jules, a cute nod to a series OTP.
And of course, we can’t forget the fact that Jazmyn Simon, who plays Selene, is Dulé Hill’s real-life wife.
More than once, Shawn quotes The Handmaid’s Tale in reference to Gus and Selene’s baby: “Praise be” and “Blessed is the fruit.”
Dolores compliments Lassiter’s “chest of hair plentiful enough to wake all of Destiny’s Child.”
Shawn comes up with possible names for Gus’ child: Shaft, Shaftie, or D’Shaft—just like Gus’ nickname Sh’Dynasty (with a “God’s comma,” or apostrophe) from “Santabarbaratown.”
They also both coo “c’mon son” to Selene’s womb.
Selene’s proposal to Gus includes his negotiation that he and Shawn have adjacent homes with connecting pools, a callback to Shawn and Gus talking about their dream setup in “The Break-Up”; as well as Pluto! She asks, “Will you make me the happiest woman on this planet, on Eres, and Pluto?”
Shawn tells Juliet that “you’re my person,” the iconic Grey’s Anatomy line (though one would argue that Gus more accurately is his person).
When Lassiter stands (shut up, you’re crying) to meet Marlowe (Kristy Swanson), they place their palms together—like they did when he would visit her in jail, like they did at their wedding. My heart.
Join us on the Easter egg hunt—let us know what references we missed!

This year the Festival continued a series of free workshops for Festival attendees. Festival goers attended a Cajun accordion workshop by Jamie Berzas and Bruce Daigrepont.
The annual Louisiana State Fiddle Championship was also held on Saturday in the Magale Recital Hall as part of the Festival. Fiddle Championship judges included Steve Birdwell, Steve Harper, Henry Hemple, and Clancey Stewart. The new Louisiana Grand Champion is Ron Yule of DeRidder. Second place winner was Joe Suchanek of Merryville, with Owen Meche of Arnauldville placing third. Meche also took first place in the 21 and under championship division.
Suchanek took first in the 60 and up championship division, with Yule coming in second, Birgit Murphy of Opelousas in third, Mark Young of Balise in fourth, Wilfred Luttrell of DeRidder in fifth, and Ron Pace of Alexandria in sixth. Luttrell and Yule also took first place in the twin fiddles competition.
As the new Louisiana State Fiddle champion, Yule also performed on the main stage in Prather Coliseum. Dr. Lisa Abney managed the fiddle championship. Dr. Susan Roach from Louisiana Tech University emceed the championship.

In addition, the honorary award of Folklife Angel was given to long-time Festival crew chief James Christopher Callahan, an NSU alumnus.
In addition to 4 book signings and 8 exhibits by such groups as state parks and archives, over 70 craftspeople displayed their traditional work on Saturday. These craftspeople demonstrated and discussed their work with the Festival patrons. Craftspeople displayed accordion making, beadwork, baskets, Czech Pysanky eggs, filé making, flintknapping, folk art, knives, music instruments, quilting, pottery, spinning & weaving, tatting, walking sticks, whittling and needlework, wood carving, and more. 8 food vendors provided a cornucopia of traditional Louisiana foods to the Festival audience.
