Stella Star's Among the Cars in Wildwood-Villas
Stella is taking her car for a tune-up at Brent’s Auto Care on Fulling Mill Road in Wildwood-Villas, home of The Martian Hop. It’s just a short drive from Doo Wop City, and the mechanic repairs all types of cars that are destined to become classics. The shelves in his shop are lined with countless replicas of various cars! These photos were taken on Thursday, May 23, 1968. (…Or, was that…

One of my readers comments on original Dead End Kids post from 6 years ago
One of my followers recently read the post I wrote back in 2018 about The Dead End Kids. I thought the tale he told was such a great story, so I asked him if I could print it on my blog. He approved, and here it is! . The tri-state area music scene during the 1970s can only be described as magical. It was during the Golden Age of Rock when I saw the Dead End Kids. Most likely in 1977. At that…

My Tanthamore Comfort Fics
We were talking about comfort fics in the Tanthamore discord and I realized I have too many for a normal sized reply, so here's a tumblr post instead. In no particular order i've reread these fics...maybe too many times.
I'm just gonna list em by author cause that's easier. Keep in mind we may have different definitions of the word comfort.
@commanderbuffy
650 ft2 - Ok so like envision these girls have been best friends for forever and they've been secretly pining for ages, no sense of personal space, they can read eachother like books AND they were roommates!
The Tanthamore Affair - This fic has everything, one bed, fake dating, celeb au, the fic that changed the meaning of a certain emoji and all the tropes you could want really
@badlance
We've got to find other ways to make it together - this one line says all you need to know
"It is the greatest irony of Jade Claymore’s life to be a certified genius who is nevertheless in love with an idiot."
@spybrarian
More Than Just Survival - as far as 5+1 fics go this one has me in a CHOKEHOLD
I scream at your chest for as long as I must
one night at the start of the end of the world
@ilovemyships (i think you need an AO3 account to read these gems)
you won't believe it (they think we're lovers)
don't wanna pressure (but friends don't kiss friends)
@acre-of-wheat - Acre's way with words should be studied
Network Connectivity Issues - I have never related to a character more than I relate to this Jade
The Dark
The Bite
@jlmichigan
Out of the Cuirass - one of the first tanthamore fics I ever read actually and I still come back to it every so often
@stbot
lay down your armor (come lie bare with me) - saintbot has a catalogue lemme tell ya but this one for tanthamore is just so heartwarming
@overkill-max
Escaping Fate - the Kit runs away fic that everyone needs
Dil3mma (idk their tumblr right now sorry)
A Sword And A Shield (And Everything In Between)
Deja-Brew - the loveliest coffee shop one shot
Jad3dEt3rnal (idk if they have a tumblr either)
This Daydream is Dangerous - cuddly vampire Jade, need I say more?
ana_chronistic (idk if they have a tumblr either x3)
Oops. I proposed. - fake dating x 100, fake proposal it's like fake dating to the next level and I love the growth of communication and pacing in this.
@barmaid-anon
do what you feel now
you want a good girl that does bad things (to you)
fulfill (an obligation) or keep (an arrangement)
we simply don't have time to unpack why these are comfort fics, we're just going to accept it and keep going.
@thecsquirrel
Sword and Shield - I love this look at what post S1 life could have been like for the gang, revisiting Nockmaar, seeing Galladoorn, getting into the evil Elora storyline with Graydon, spending more time with the Nelwyn and in the Wildwood it's just everything
@wigster07
What a pleasant surprise - a fic of one of my other comfort fics, I know it's like fic-ception in the best way possible. If you liked Tanthamore Affair I have an inkling this will be right up your alley
@isabrella @jade-claymore @allthefakepeople @resurrecho
those rumors they have big teeth - BAND AU need I say more? I don't need to but i'm going to, this fic has everything Kit and Jade in a band, Kit's leather pants, gay-ifying songs, MAMA MIA, totally gay best friends who have basically been dating for years but won't admit to it, Jade gets to be a bit problematic as a treat, inner band fighting, what more can you want?
@swashbucklery
meet you where the spirit meets the bones (tanthamore 90s werewolf au) - its a SERIES of these repressed gay DORKS and they're werewolves, there's such a charming way to how this author writes them I legit can't even with these two gays
@onlyshestandsthere
these walls come tumbling down - look, we don't have time to unpack why there's so many were-related supernatural esque fics on my comfort list and I know this is only 2 chapters in but I can already feel the comfort in all the hurt ok I dont even have to wait I already know i'm gonna be rereading this like monthly
I'm gonna have to stop there even though I know i'm still missing some! If someone asked me what my favorites are we'd be here all day XD

My Random Smiling Friends Headcanons
Gnarly was born in the dressing room at a Pac Sun in New Jersey, that's why his name is basically surfer slang.
Grim grew up in the suburbs and his parents were a dentist and a lawyer. Grim went into his edgy phase as a teen and never left.
Grim isn't actually his real name, he just changed it to be "Edgy"
Allan was an engineering major in college.
Glep listens to Will Wood.
Glep collects CDs
When Charlie was 12, he spent Memorial day on the side of the road by his Uncle's burnt '54 Chevy Bel Air. Charlie's Uncle and cars. *Sigh*
Charlie's parents died shortly after he was born, so he was basically raised by his uncle.
Charlie's Uncle's band, "The Red Gapers", is psychedelic rock.
Pim likes Dollywood (I went there once and it's so fun!)
Pim's favorite musicals would probably be Hairspray, Hamilton, Mamma Mia, and Dear Evan Hansen.
Mr. Boss' favorite musicals would probably be Ride The Cyclone, Annie, and wicked
Charlie unironically got one of those "Gangster cartoon" Shirts from the Wildwood boardwalk when he was a teenager.
Glep likes Rhythm Heaven and Arcaea.
Pim has a Neopets account
Mr. Boss likes the movie "Radio", Allan hates that movie.
Allan really likes Star Trek
Mr. Boss collects PEZ Despensers.
Gwimbly Plays the Accordian
Glep has a 90's Cherry Coke can he found in the woods one day.
Gwimbly hates it when people think his name is Quigley. It happens quite a bit with people unfamiliar with him.
Pim likes Taylor Swift.
Glep listens to 80s synth
Pim had a phase when he was younger where he made Olympic Mascot fanfic. It was short lived.
Pim also had a "Tumblr Girl" aesthetic phase.
Glep is sometimes underestimated due to his size.
Pim played the flute when he was in school.
Those have been some random and not strangely specific at all headcanons about Smiling Friends!

Prompt #7: Morsel
tw: child endangerment, death
“Stick with me, pup,” she’d told him. “I’ll look out fer ya.”
Her name was Violet. Violet was older than him. Not by much, but she talked like she knew all there was to know, so she must. She also had a head’s height on him, with chiselled shoulders carved for archery and arms broad as boughs. She’d taken a shine to him, so staying under her wing was smart for practical purposes.
He was a waifish scrap of a lad when the band took him off his mother’s hands. Barely looked his age then, and he was only grazing ten. The price he fetched? A good meal, but not for him. He went hungry that night, huddled alone in a cramped cage to keep him from bolting.
Not that he would’ve.
Violet shared her watery stew with him next moonrise. Antelope, mostly gristle, seasoned with nettle leaf. It was awful, and he relished every bite.
The next sun, they let her take him to the river to wash off the grime and the lice. She’d had to swallow a shriek when she moved the locks behind his ear and his scalp crawled. Apologising with every breath, she spent the next bell carefully shaving away matted hair at the root with a paring knife while he sat unshivering in the icy water, knees pulled up to his chest.
With nowhere to hide, his itchy passengers were rinsed away. Ticks were twisted ‘n’ plucked, leeches peeled off. She scrubbed him down and bundled him up in her own spare clothes, leagues too large. He said nothing the whole time, staring at her while she asked all kinds of questions and made up the answers when he wouldn’t give one.
“What was yer village like? Why did yer mum give ya up? Didn’t she want yer? Did ya do somethin’ bad? D’ya have any brothers? Sisters? Did they die? D’ya talk at all. C’mon, say somethin’. Did they take out yer tongue?” She grabbed his chin and made him open his mouth to check. He let her.
“Pff. Y’can talk. Say somethin’. ‘Ey. What’s yer name? Y’must know yer name. I’ll call ya… eh, pebble. ‘Cause rocks never say nothin’ but yer too small t’ be a rock. So yer a pebble. Like what y’get stuck in yer shoe.” She glanced at his bare feet, caked in river clay. “Oh, right. Y’need shoes. Should have some that’ll fit at the hideout. Let’s go, pebble.”
Violet took his hand and started to walk, but he dug his heels in, his hazel eyes pointed downwards. He muttered lowly, under his breath.
“What’s that?”
“Osric. I’m Osric.”
The girl cracked a smile. “Y’can talk. Knew it. I’m Violet. Like the flower. I was born while they was in bloom. It’s too late t’ see ‘em now. Turnin’ cold. But when spring comes, I’ll take ya t’ pick ‘em. What’s yer name mean?”
She walked him back to ‘the hideout’, a cluster of huts and tents lodged into the rocky, wooded hills of the South Shroud, not unlike a true hornet’s nest. The hive that dwelt there was led by a wildwood woman who styled herself their queen. All Osric had known until then was life with his siblings and his mother, but the queen wasn’t his mother, and the wasps weren’t his kin. The hive wasn’t his home.
Violet felt like a friend, though. Maybe his first.
They wasted little time putting him to work. They’d taken him in for his potential uses, not out of the kindess of their hearts. He was small and slight, which meant he was the one getting shoved into a cellar through the window to unlock doors, or helping them empty larders. He’d climb into wagons to relieve them of their goods, waded through forests of legs in crowded markets to lighten pockets.
Osric was good at it, all of it. Too good, and that was the problem. It didn’t take long for his impulses to land him in trouble. Violet was the first to find things that didn’t belong to him hidden away under his blanket. A search of his pockets turned up more.
“Y’don’t take these,” she’d warned him, waving a bejewelled bracelet in his face. “Food, I get. They don’t give ya enough.” He worked harder than half the hive, and he still only ate what he could steal and squirrel away. They wanted to keep him small. Useful. “But what would ya even do with this?”
She’d laughed. It was always kind of funny, the first time. The first few times. They tried the bracelet on his slender wrist and it looked silly, hanging there like a loose, shimmering shackle. He didn’t know what to tell her, so he just shrugged. He hadn’t even remembered picking it up or where he got it. Violet knew whose it was, so she took it back before it was missed. But it wasn’t the last time she had to cover for him, and even her patience started to wane.
“D’ya want t’ get into trouble? I’ve told ya before. Y’don’t steal from yer fellow wasps. They’re not playin’ around, Os. They’ll have ya fer this if they catch ya.” He stared at her, like he always did. It was like he got it, but if he got it, why’d he keep doing it? Her face changed. “This is why yer mother got shut of ya. En’t it.”
It hurt. He could tell she was only angry because she cared. Violet’s anger was different from his mother’s. She didn’t want to see him hurt, or tossed out to fend for himself.
“Won’t happen again,” he swore. She hit him, and he fell back into the grass. He lay there, stunned. But he understood why. It was her way of saying she didn’t believe him. Because he broke his last promise, and he was going to break this one too.
They went fishing as the colder moons set in. She taught him things he didn’t know, like how to fashion together a makeshift rod, and the kinds of bugs that were better as bait for this or that kind of fish. He didn’t have much patience for it, and he usually ended up in the river, fishing for crayfish with his bare hands.
Violet showed him how to cook their catch, starting with how to make a fire. The rocks that made the base, first. “It needs t’ breathe,” she told him. Then the right tinder, and finally how to make a spark by striking firestone. “Cook it through,” she scolded. “Fish’ll make ya sick if the middle’s not done.”
She taught him how to set snares for small game, and the mechanism for basic traps. He wanted to learn how to hunt with a bow like she did, but he wasn’t strong enough to draw back the string. His arrows nicked off the outer bark of the tree they used for target practice while hers lodged themselves ilms deep. It made her laugh until she cried every time his shot went wide, and he started doing it on purpose just to see her smile.
He didn’t get it back then; why she did all that. He figured they were just having fun together. That she was proud to teach him all the things she knew and show him how clever she was—and she was.
The take got harder. It always did through the winter moons, Violet told him. This one was leaner than most, though. Bad weather set in and buried the roads in fulms of snow. They had to travel further, and the risks were greater.
Osric was sent out to scout. He didn’t mind the cold much and it meant he got lucky finding something to eat every once in a while. A warm glow amidst the trees alerted to him to a camp’s presence. The guards were few in number and half-asleep. He snuck in, clambering onto the back of a cart laden with salted fish and meat. He ate until he felt sick, then more, until his stomach hurt. It was tempting, too tempting to doze off right there in amongst all the bundles when he was done, but he willed himself to retreat—pockets stuffed with as much as he could carry—back to the nearest outpost.
He hid his haul before reporting in, but he smuggled some mackerel for Violet. Her favourite.
The ‘stingers’, they called them, were assembled. Archers all, and Violet was among them. Following Osric’s lead, they retraced his steps back to the camp to assess numbers and the viability of their task.
It was near dawn by then, but it wouldn’t get light until late morn this season. The boy had an idea of what was going to happen when he reported in, but he’d never been there for it before. They hadn’t needed to mobilise the stingers since he was taken on. His talents had helped to keep them well-enough supplied.
But they’d missed too many meals.
They took to the trees, found their positions: Clear sight of the guards and the tents they watched over. The boy stayed on the ground, with Violet. She was down there to give chase if they sought cover. A body dropped, its fall softened by the snow. Osric watched it turn red with clinical interest.
The next shot must have missed its mark. A man’s scream pierced Osric’s ears. He sounded so pained that it made his stomach lurch, and he regretted his earlier gluttony. Figures poured out of the tents, more than he’d banked on. They were in their smallclothes but had bows in their hands, and were in various stages of hastily slinging quivers over their shoulders.
A woman dressed in a long, woollen robe with a wooden staff took stock and said—
“Leave this to me.” The staff spun, palm over wrist, and Osric flinched back and ducked low as a fierce gale billowed out from her position, scattering supplies and raising up the snow off the ground into a whirling blizzard.
“Fuck!” he heard Violet cry, but he couldn’t see her. Cold winds blew right through him, chilling him to his core. He heard dull thuds and ivory cracks from the west and north, where the stingers had been poised to strike. Blinded and panicked, he pulled up his hood to shield his head and ran.
“Violet!” he bleated, but he heard his own voice die in the gale. He leant against a tree to gather his bearings, and a whistling thunk carried an arrow deep into the bark, ilms from his ear. Peeling away, he scrambled through thick brush that snared and scratched bare skin. He grabbed a skinny sapling for support and doubled over. Each panicked gasp was being stolen from him. I can’t breathe, he realised, cold dread pouring down his back.
He couldn’t muster a scream when a powerful arm closed around his torso, thrashing in vain against their strength. He was thrown over a shoulder, and jostled as his captor ran. Drifting in and out, Osric felt the winds die, watched the snow start to settle.
“Yer safe,” was the next thing he heard, and he trusted the voice that told him so. She set him down in a snowdrift and knelt over him protectively while she surveyed the woods. “Can’t say if we lost any. We’re s’posed t’ regroup at th’ outpost if somethin’ happens. But only if we’re not bein’ followed.”
Shivering, Osric sat up and buried his face in her chest for a moment, gripping her shoulder. Fear still prickled the inside of his skin, and he shook from the itch. “I dun wanna do this again, I hate it,” he choked, breath shuddering. “I wanna go home.” He didn’t know where home was. Just that it wasn’t here.
“I know, pup.” Taking his hand, Violet rose. “C’mon. Stick with me.” Osric climbed to his feet, unsteady as a fawn. He registered the whistle too late. The arrow’s path scored his cheek and struck her chest.
─ • ─
Come spring, her namesake was in bloom. Pretty purple petals that flourished where sunlight spilled into the forest. He gathered a bunch and brought them to her.

September 10, 1975
KIϟϟ: Alive! is released
Recorded: May 16, 1975 (Cobo Arena, Detroit); June 21, 1975 (Cleveland Music Hall, Cleveland); July 20, 1975 (RKO Orpheum Theater, Davenport); July 23, 1975 (Wildwoods Convention Center, Wildwood)
The album’s title was a homage to the 1972 live album Slade Alive! from the English rock group Slade, a band that heavily influenced KIϟϟ.
Even though the band released three albums prior to this they were commercial failures. Paul Stanley attributed the low sales to KIϟϟ' weak sound when they were in the studio versus when they were in live. According to Paul: "I never thought any of our first three albums captured the intensity of what the band was going for or was. And it was a problem because people would come to see us and many of them weren't buying our albums." KIϟϟ was famous for its elaborate performances, wearing kabuki-style makeup, using pyrotechnics, and spitting fake blood. Gene Simmons said that because of KIϟϟ' notoriety, they were kicked off of multiple tours with groups like Argent, Black Sabbath, and Savoy Brown because they were 'afraid to play after KIϟϟ.'
In a last-ditch effort to save the label, Bogart decided to capitalize on KIϟϟ’ onstage notoriety and have the band record a live album. KIϟϟ’’ manager Bill Aucoin was receptive toward the idea, as he felt the band could finally achieve the sound they strove for. He also liked the fact that a live recording would be less expensive than a studio recording. The band members also liked the idea, and within a few days, Bogart arranged the Dressed to Kill Tour. Bogart could not finance the tour, however, so Aucoin paid for the entire tour with his own money, a total of $300,000.
KIϟϟ’ wild and energetic stage presence did not translate well to the live recordings. Stanley and Simmons had several miscues, such as playing the wrong chords, knocking over mics, and not singing directly into the mic. Producer Eddie Kramer knew that significant dubbing was needed to make the album sound good. For many years, KIϟϟ denied the use of dubbing on Alive!. In Simmons’ 2001 autobiography, Kiss and Make-up: A Memoir, he admitted the band had done some post-production alterations. The live recordings were so heavily altered, only Criss’ drum tracks remained untouched
Alive! peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard 200 album charts, and charted for 110 weeks, by far the longest chart run in the band's history.
In 2003, the album was ranked No. 159 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time, maintaining the rating in a 2012 update, and dropping to number 305 in the 2020 revision.

I'm Doing Bear Science
So my question is Who ACTUALLY did the voice for Teddi Barra in the original version of the show?
Nearly all the available information says that it was Patsy Stoneman who did the voice for Teddi. Given that I've spent the past month and a half pretty much only listening to the Stonemans, I believe that it is NOT Patsy.
Here is Teddi:
youtube
Under the cut is my evidence and my conclusion, BEHOLD
Here is my evidence: If you listen to this track by the Stonemans, it starts with studio chatter, mainly Patsy, talking about the track. The singing comes from the same direction that Patsy is talking in the beginning. Patsy was also older than Donna and Roni (which IMO you can hear in her voice). Their version of Wildwood Flower is sung by Patsy too.
youtube
youtube
THEN, if you listen to their version of All The Guys That Turn Me On Turn Me Down, I think that whoever sings this is who voiced Teddi. I believe that Roni is doing lead, meaning that by process of elimination it's Donna doing backing vocals.
youtube
Additionally, In All Honesty, Dawn of the Stoneman's Age and California Blues were all recorded BEFORE CBJ. (In 1969, and early 1970 respectively)
Here's snippets from a biography about the Stonemans (SOURCE) and a quote from a blog post (SOURCE)
Another video source that I think backs this up is this clip of the Stonemans doing a track called 'White Lightning'
youtube
Here you will see Van asking 'Grand Ol Opry stars' what they think of White Lightning, and first up is 'Kitty Wells': the vocals here being Roni.
Personally, I think that her voice is closer to that of Teddi than Patsy.
HOWEVER HOWEVER: Here is the kicker; a spanner in the works!
So someone basically just assumed it was Patsy because that was the first female name they saw associated with the Stonemans. Which is another point pour MOI. (They also did NOT do their research properly because if they had looked, they would know that there were three sisters in the band at the time they recorded CBJ: Patsy, Donna and Roni.) (SOURCE)
So my CONCLUSSY is that it is Roni who did the voice for Teddi Barra.
Bonus photo. Patsy (Top), Roni, Donna and Van (Middle), Jimmy (Bottom)
THANKS FOR COMING TO MY BEAR TALK!

Back on my willow shit after mourning the removal of the show (and forcing my friend to watch it). So here’s my Tanthamore playlist with explanations for each song
- Crimson and Clover by the Pom Pom squad: this one’s obvious
- I’m on fire by Soccar Mommy: also just because it’s in the show but the lyrics about bad desire feels very repressed queer love so it’s a tanthamore song now. I don’t make the rules.
-Bags by Clairo: the lyrics are very kit running away in episode 1 plus Clairos vibes are just so tathamore.
- Ceilings by Lizzy McAlphine: this songs lyrics gives me Jade’s internal monologue after the kiss in episode 1.
- I am yours by Churchill: this goes on every ship playlist I make because it’s so cute and it’s just about being devoted to someone else and thinking about it with them makes me FERAL!
- Cherry Wine by Hozier: the soft guitar feels very fantasy to me, plus the lyrics feel Jade talking about kit.
- Trees by The Oh Hellos: this is a childhood friends to lovers song and it makes me think of them as little kids not knowing their in love with each other 🥺
- Dear Arkansas Daughter by Lady Lamb: I blame edits. It’s Jades pov from episode 5 when she’s a little mad at kit in the wildwood. “you with the dark curls, you with the water colour eyes, you who bares all your teeth with every smile.” Like cmon that’s so kit.
- Like or Like Like by Minature Tigers: again it’s a childhood friends to lovers song but like more current. The sort of will they won’t they from episode 1-5.
- Another Story by The Head and the Heart: this one is mostly vibes but I feel like it gives the way home from the quest and moving forward together. It’s them choosing each other in the end.
- Without You by Oh Wonder: it’s a PINING song okay so therefore it’s a jade song.
- Softly by Clairo: this song is a Kit song about falling for jade. And I’ll say it once I’ll say it again. Clairo has tanthamore vibes.
- Dear Wormwood by the Oh Hellos: the title sounds so close to wildwood and the vibes are super fantasy esc. It’s very much jade’s arch learning who she truly is and what she wants and how that change was sprung by the wildwood.
- Home by Edward sharp and the magnetic zeroes: this song is a classic and it’s just so cute. It’s them acknowledging their each others home 🥺
- Gemini by Tash Sultana: this is also a kit song and her admiring her feelings for jade.
- Fight or Flight: pretty sure I got this song from an edit and went yes I agree. It’s a kit song and her dealing with her weird feelings for Jade. “I’d rather lie they tell you I’m in love with you” like that’s so wildwood truth plums.
- Heavy Feet by Local Natives: this is them both being unable to admit their feelings contrasted with when they finally say what they needs to and their “left in the sun, shivering”
- Soldier, Poet, King by The Oh Hellos: there is no band with more fantasy vibes then the oh hellos. Kit is the soldier, Jade is the Poet and Elora is the King. I will not debate, I could write an essay proving this.
- Two Birds by Regina Spektor: I saw one edit and it went on the playlist. Kit is the one that says “cmon” and Jade says “I’m tired” need I say more?
- Until I Found You by Stephen Sanchez: the EDITS. The lyrics are just so bloody romantic it will go on every ship playlist imaginable but it hits particularity hard for them. “Never let you go again” so makes me think of end of episode 6 beginning of 7 when Jade almost looses kit.
- Bloom by the Paper Kites: again just so totally, completely, desperately romantic. it had to go on the playlist the gods demanded it.
- Will We Talk? By Sam Fender: again just the idea of them finally saying what they haven’t. I can also see an au where they meet as a one night stand (which is what the song is about).
- Would That I by Hozier: the edits Plus the image of a willow tree in the first verse made me associate it. Also so bloody romantic.
- Sleep on the Floor by the Lumineers: the idea of running away together feels very Kit trying to convince Jade to go with her in episode 1.
- Pretty Firl by Clairo: you thought I was done with the Clairo songs? Think again. It’s Jade willing to wear a dress and become a “pretty girl” to support Kit.
- Croses by José González: this is a kit song. Her talking about her trauma and the “well cast sunlight and you’ll be alright” is Jade.
- the colour violet by Tory Lanez: this one is vibes alone and because there were so many edits of this song.
- Start a Riot by Banners: this song is just what they’d both to for each other very much the sentiment of “when you love someone you jump off the edge of the world to get to them” and it FITS SO WELL.
- Gajendra by Willow and Jahnavi Harrison: again the Willow association felt right. And the vibes of “I depend on you alone” is so tanthamore.
- Bad Idea by Girl in Red: it’s so sapphic panic and “oh fuck we have feelings we need to address” because of this it goes on every playlist.
- Sound and Colour by Alabama Shakes: the song gives me jade vibes and it’s honestly vibes alone but I don’t care.
- I’ll Call You Mine by Girl in Red: it’s so GAY and so ROMANTIC and it’s one of the first songs I thought of when I made this playlist and then I saw an edit immediately after and I just about died.
- Cosmic Love By Florence and the Machine: Florence only writes character songs so this is my obligatory contribution to this playlist. Song has fantasy vibes and has the same dramatic vibes as the banners song.
- Morning Dove by Genevieve Stokes: this one’s all vibes and because the dove had a vague association but it’s a good ass song.
- Like Real People Do by Hozier: cmon this is probably the most romantic song ever written. It’s very kit finally kissing Jade to me because “I will not ask you where you came from.. just put your sweet lips on my lips, we should just kiss like real people do.”
- Homecoming Heroes by the Head and the Heart: this is so Kit and jade imaging having adventures in the world together. It’s such a cute image.
- Love Ain’t Enough by the Barr Brothers: this is so Kit at the end admitting love is the most powerful thing in the universe (specifically her love for jade).
- Falming Hot Cheetos by Clairo: “I wanna be the one you think about at night, I wanna be the one that you would put up a fight for” LIKE THAT IS SO JADE!! I can’t even it fits so good.

A Tribute to My Best Friend: Forty-Five Years of Friendship
Having a best friend is a rare treasure—a gift that transcends time and defies all odds. For over four decades, I’ve had the privilege of calling Jim Gloria my best friend, and today, I want to celebrate the extraordinary bond we share. Our journey began in the summer of 1979, in the bustling arcade Botto’s in Wildwood, where chance—or perhaps fate—brought us together. It was a seemingly random…

morse being queer (and other commentary) pt 14:
season 4, episode 2, “Canticle”:
- so far this season isn’t very gay 🫤
- i miss jakes ‼️‼️
- SINGGGGG BITCH
- this music video would be a target pride ad tbh
- don’t even try to say i’m wrong
- wait isn’t this episode super gay?
- IT IS
- omg
- get ready for me to go absolutely ballistic
- character hasn’t even introduced himself yet and we r already seeing his entire ass
- also can this lady stfu?
- “‘kiss me.’” “what?!”
- morse panicking every time theres even a suggestion of physically intimacy is so….
- anyways
- as someone who grew up in colorado, i forget constantly that weed has ever been illegal
- the way morse looks at the younger brother when he meets the band
- clocks the queer and is immediately interested 🥰
- i actually have 0 clue if that’s the gay one i’m just guessing
- “never did anything for me.”
- thursday smokes pot and listens to the grateful dead is my new hc for him
- “you ever tried it?” “i’m a serving police officer!” MORSE U ARE LAME BOO BOO BOO
- “you put enough beer away.”
- TELL EM THURSDAY
- “beer is brain food.”
- YOU TELL EM MORSE
- [i am fully joking. smoking is bad for you, and i would never encourage it under any circumstances. i would also never shame anyone for partaking. i do vouch for the legalization of drugs such as marijuana and shrooms tho. just do what u wanna do!]
- i love summertime because they’re all walking around in just their shirt sleeves 🥰
- thursday and morse just laughing at this lady is so real of them
- the daughter immediately becoming attracted to morse because of how he talks to her mom is the realest shit i’ve ever seen
- i am obsessed with The Wildwood
- like i said in the tiger episode, the episodes where a woman is guilty are always more interesting and this one is the PRIME example
- let’s not pretend like loads of rock songs aren’t based on poetry
- they could have been onto something 🙄🙄
- this band is a bunch of 🏳️🌈🏳️🌈
- debryn choking morse ???????
- like okay
- pressing up against his back and shit
- i love these two together
- given the marching band coats they’re all wearing i wanna say this band is supposed to represent the beatles during their sergeant pepper days which had me wondering which of the beatles this writer thinks is gay
- joy pettybon is SO ANNOYING 🙄🙄
- this song is an absolute banger
- so basically the position the gay guy has in the band is the same as john lennon for the most part
- so this writer thinks john is a lil 💅
- and i respect that
- however!
- the english band that was supposed to tour with the kinks and got denied their visas was the Moody Blues so they could be referencing that band also
- THURSDAY IS SO MEAN
- pettybon’s daughter is kinda…
- jk
- free her from this hell tho!
- the way he goes 🤫 at her after she asks him not to tell about the cigarette
- i’m obsessed w him 😭
- the way her talking about homosexuals is not even an outdated argument
- like
- we have not progressed
- props to this guy for standing up for himself and other queer people
- and i hate that nick is the one she said all that homophobic shit to directly
- i know morse hated her ass
- “he’s a pervert” SHUT UR BITCHASS UP
- as a gay, i can guarantee you gay people want nothing to do w ur dirty ass kids
- “it was about love. she said it was dirty. how can love be dirty?” “well if it isn’t then i suspect you aren’t doing it right.”
- HES FUCKING GAY
- this man jessop is talking about writing about the queer experience and wondering how it can be dirty and morse tells him that if it isn’t a little bit then he isn’t doing it right
- that’s like a quadruple entendre
- he’s fucking queer and that line alone proved it to me
- also good on him for telling joy her supporters got violent with jessop
- she’s a bitch
- her performative goodwill-doing is SO ACCURATE
- HOW HAVE WE NOT PROGRESSED???
- oh this bettina girl is a hoe
- good for her!
- morse instinctively straightening up when he decided to have a drink w her 💀💀
- he’s such a whore
- this girl straight up called his life sad because he’s alone 😭😭😭
- like she’s right but goddam girl
- “you seem lonely”
- FINAL STRAW
- death by chocolate is so wild
- the way she catches morse’s eye the day after and he just looks away 😬
- “the threat was made against you. so far as i can see, you’re still here.”
- GO MORSE GO
- the way morse smiles while jessop goes off about pettybon
- and the way that after they accuse him he looks to morse
- people go to morse for comfort in every scenario i hate it here
- OMFG I HATE JOY
- her daughter has NO FRIENDS and sought comfort in an older man via CONVERSATION because her father died and she’s projecting and her mom slaps her across the face for it
- like what the fuck 😀
- i. hate. her.
- the way nick is mourning a lover this entire episode and we don’t know until the very end
- and the way that queer people had to mourn silently for lovers, dead or alive, just because they couldn’t be together
- and people still now have to do that
- i’m sick.
- this is my favorite episode if you couldn’t tell
- combines my two favorite things
- gay people and the 1960s progressive movement via its ties to rock music and bands
- like i live for this shit
- also detectives
- i love a detective
- “comparing his [nick’s] lyrics to james joyce and oscar wilde” AKA TWO QUEER AUTHORS (joyce was only alleged it’s never been proven)
- like how did people not clock him as a homosexual
- tf?
- trewlove is so real for being a serious police officer and genuinely a genius while also being a boy band fan
- the reverend literally shit himself to death
- i’m not laughing 😐😐
- morse listening to rock and roll agenda ‼️‼️‼️
- nah this girl is wild for showing up to his flat
- him letting her in is even crazier
- his face when he says “no more than usual” IM SCREAMING
- why is he so 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️
- i’m gonna lose my mind over him
- her asking him if she’s gonna burn in hell and him being like 🫤 like girl he does not believe in hell
- YOU WHAT
- “i love you” GIRL WHAT?????????
- his face
- boy said
- 😮😧
- “there’s someone else” GIRL U WERE NOT EVEN ON THE ROSTER
- “nick wrote it about me”
- girl….
- and then says she’s not allowed to go to the Enchanted Place but fully lets morse go
- like queen
- she looked at nick and said I Know What You Are and then committed murder over it
- so wild!
- PLEASE IM DYING
- bro gets offered a drink and says no SO aggressively
- trying not to catch the sleeping with suspects allegations out here
- nick reaching for his drink the second barry comes up 😭😭
- i feel so bad for this kid 😀 but i’m normal about it i swear 😀
- “don’t you want to expand your mind?” translates directly to “i know ur gay and u should act on it”
- “you ever tried em [mushrooms]?” “only as part of an english breakfast.”
- and then BOTH OF THEM GIGGLING?????
- morse couldn’t help but flirt huh
- i hate him
- and then smiling at him genuinely and asking him about his interests???
- hello.
- PLEASE THE SMILE WHILE NICK EXPLAINS WHATS BEYOND THE DOOR
- AND THE WAY HIS FACE DROPS WHEN NICK SAYS “infinite love”??????
- he figures it out really early on he just didn’t want to out him
- i stand by that
- “there is no shame. no guilt.”
- and morse finally breaks eye contact and looks away??????
- this scene is so inherently queer
- and then nick finally breaking down over barry 😭😭😭😭
- and morse is just not judgmental
- he KNOWS what happened between them 😐 and he won’t out nick 😐
- i’m normal about this episode 😀
- morse refusing to look at her naked 😧 sir i need you to be normal
- “Well, i hope you’ve arrested him. Dudley Jessop. He’s an abomination in the eyes of our lord.”
- “Strangely enough, the police training manual omits to mention abominations.”
- i just want to point out that no one in this entire show defends queer people the way morse does and i feel like it’s really telling
- just like jessop, he stands up for queer people
- they are comparing the two of them
- and they juxtapose him to nick while also making it clear that there’s something similar between them
- like HELLO????
- wake up.
- writing my dissertation about this episode
- anyways ‼️
- “Thankfully, Thursday and I can remember a time when people were decent.”
- the way morse looks absolutely disgusted by her
- i love him
- morse is literally celebrating in his mind when this lady gets arrested
- he’s so fucking happy 💀
- “he’s hiding something.”
- once again, i fully believe that morse KNOWS that nick is queer
- he knows that nick was with barry
- but he refuses to out him
- morse going back to nick’s spot because he knows where he goes to escape is so…
- morse just understands the queer people in this show and im obsessed w it
- nick 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
- justice for my boy!
- his brother is so real for keeping the girls away from him
- this girl is FUCKED for fully melting his brain to cover for herself
- i hate her
- debryn is awfully aware of the culture surrounding acid 🤨
- anything you’d like to tell us doctor?
- i like thursday referencing cain and abel
- makes u think it might have been the brother’s doing
- but no!
- i love a lil red herring
- morse finding the proof of nick’s relationship with barry 😬
- he can’t keep it on the dl now
- how unfortunate
- always sucks when ur fellow gays are tied up in murder 🙄
- “it was what he deserved.”
- GET HER BETTINA
- saying that someone deserved to die because of how they were “carrying on”???????
- ma’am
- you married a gay man
- it’s as simple as that
- there’s no need for all this hatred
- just divorce and move on there’s no need to drive people to end it all
- “she’ll be back.” “no. she won’t.”
- GET HER THURSDAY!!!!
- trewlove being a fan of boy bands is the ONLY reason morse solved this case so here’s a shoutout to all my boy band girlies out there!
- it’s me. i am the boy band girlie
- morse’s freckles 🥰🥰🥰
- the lemonade was already spiked when he drank it which means that girl was tripping ballsack and speaking completely normally
- good for her
- he drank so much 💀💀💀
- bro is about to meet god
- ope i was wrong
- nick is bisexual
- bisexual awareness!!
- OSCAR WILDE APPRECIATION
- morse being privy to the contents of a book about… actually i won’t say 🤨
- the book is called Justine by de Sade
- if ur curious
- the contents are sensitive tho so be wary
- ANYWAYS
- i always appreciate queer people from that period using oscar wilde as a means of communication or identifying other queer people
- and the fact that morse knows that off the top of his head…
- oh my god
- chris and nick 💀
- what all of you don’t know is that i assumed chris was the gay one at the beginning of the episode because i couldn’t remember which of them was gay
- and i wrote in these notes that it was him
- and then went back and deleted it because i was wrong and it was nick
- BUT I WAS FUCKING CORRECT
- CHRIS IS QUEER TOO
- i’m losing my mind
- just like morse is about to 🥰
- morse having a bad trip is so unfortunate
- it would b interesting to see him have a good trip and change his entire perspective on drugs tbh
- except that he has an addictive personality
- so it’s actually good he had a bad trip and will never even attempt drugs again!
- we won ladies
- his waist is soO SNATCHED
- morse 🥺🥺
- i don’t wanna know what he was hallucinating but yes i do
- because i’m a nosy bitch.
- “he went to hell and back.”
- thursday gets it
- morse in a wife beater agenda‼️‼️🗣️
- “what day is it?” “corned beef.” “it’s friday.”
- I LOVE THEM OH MY GOD
- i hate it here
- there’s no way that pillow is comfy
- why is it up so high
- oh my god he’s so fine
- GOOD FOR YOU BETTINA
- nah joan is foul for calling him and then not saying anything
- absolutely foul.
- to be quite honest i’m not sure i can forgive her after this little plot point
- so for anyone who isn’t privy to tarot card meanings:
- the hanged man, upright, means the person is experiencing sacrifice and martyrdom. this is obviously applicable to morse as he is very self sacrificial. martyrdom is typically defined as suffering or death to obtain sympathy; this can be applied to morse as he is intentionally being made to suffer by the people around him and it is causing people to swarm to him. we will see more of this in the future.
- the lovers, upright, represents duality and union as well as an important relationship. it is interesting that they chose to display this card upright given he keeps losing people he loves and the card in reverse (representing loss of balance and disharmony) would be more fitting. it does mean, though, that he could be seeing a relationship coming into his life that will provide him balance and unity
#this one is so long#but it’s my favorite episode#like in the entire show#i’m obsessed with this episode#i love#gay#people#endeavour#endeavour itv#endeavour morse#morse#itv endeavour

The day’s headliner was Blake Shelton, the enduring Oklahoma superstar, who is now perhaps better known for his decade-plus-long stint as a judge on NBC’s “The Voice” than his 28 No. 1 singles on the country chart.
Shelton was in fine spirits on the massive Miller Lite-branded main stage — built between Morey’s and Adventure Piers — declaring about a dozen times how it was his birthday weekend (he turns 47 Sunday) and how he was ready to celebrate.
“Y’all didn’t think I’d live this long, did ya,” he joked, a cup of clearly-not-water glued to his hand for much of the 90-minute performance. Fittingly, much of Shelton’s catalog is built for a party: “All About Tonight,” “Sangria” and the like kept the monstrous crowd dancing and sipping their tallboy cans.
Barefoot, now New Jersey’s largest country music festival, typically draws around 30,000 fans, comparable to the more rock-focused Sea Hear Now in Asbury Park (booked again for September). Though Barefoot enjoys as wide an age range as any festival of this size. Families, teens, seniors and in between swayed to Shelton’s more somber “Home,” with thousands of phone lights morphing the Wildwood beach into a starry sky.
Though the boisterous Shelton is best in his heavier, more outlaw-leaning moments, with crunchy guitars and the power of his six-piece band felt most on “Hillbilly Bone,” “Old Red” and his biggest hit “God’s Country.” For the latter, the back-and-forth between Shelton’s unwavering baritone and a backing female vocalist’s towering wails made for the set’s most compelling tune.
