We did it!
The Lebanon Valley Java Journey is officially over…for us! We went to all 12 locations and tried what they had to offer, well, sort of. PSM tried some of the specialty drinks, I had a chai latte at each place, and we both tried the food offerings, well, PSM didn’t at the last one, but for the most part, we did the Java Journey proud! We were at the last place and PSM said, we could do this…

13. Hot Cocoa + Baking
from @carmenberzattosgf list
Reader x Carmy Berzatto (The Bear FX)
Rating: Mature (2.3k)
Tags: Chocolat (2000) AU, Friends to Rivals to Lovers, Food, Curvy Reader, Fluff, Sexual Tension, Smut, Dry Humping, Dirty Talk, Both Carmy and Reader have a bit of a praise kink
Maybe it was corny and provincial, but you always welcomed your neighbors with a batch of cookies. It was good for business most of the time too - the insurance people next door bought pastries every other day for their breakfast after you gifted them some for their opening.
So, there you were, close to the counter of the new specialty chocolaterie, box of cookies in hand, captivated by the smell of chocolate... There was so much more though: caramel, vanilla, almonds, coffee, cardamom, berries, and was that pepper...?
"Welcome to The Bear, what can I do for you?" a tall man greeted you.
"Oh, hi!" you smiled politely. "I'm from the bakery down the street. Wanted to say hello and give you a little welcome present."
You handed him the box, delicate calligraphy marking the name of your shop.
The man beamed. "That's so sweet! Pun not intended," he chuckled to himself. "Now we definitely have to give you something on the house!"
You looked at his name tag. "Richie, that's not necessary at all..."
"Nonsense. Plus, you get to see the magic happen. Cousin!" he bellowed to the back, where you assumed the kitchen was.
"Magic?" you frowned.
A blond guy with blue eyes emerged from the door and gave you a polite nod.
"What is it?" he asked Richie, he seemed irritated.
"Cookies from our neighbor, cuz," Richie offered him the open box, he was already biting into his second one. "Say thanks and do your mind-reader thing."
"It's not... Never mind," he mumbled in exasperation, rolling his eyes. "Carmy Berzatto," he said and offered you his hand to shake. "Thank you for the cookies."
"You're welcome," you smiled at the sight of him eating with gusto.
"Is that piloncillo sugar?" he asked after a moment of savoring.
"Yes!" you beamed.
"Tremendous," he said earnestly, wiping his hands on a dish towel. He walked closer to the counter and stared at you, intensely, for half a minute. "Mocha frappe, double espresso shot, whipped cream and chocolate shavings on top. That's your favorite."
You stared right back, mouth agape. That was your comfort drink, no matter the weather. How did he know?
"Do we still have the nice Mexican coffee? She'll appreciate it," he asked Richie.
"Yeah, third shelf. Neat trick, huh?" Richie grinned, enjoying the shocked look on your face as Carmy went to the back.
"How does he-?"
"Fucked if I know," he shrugged. "He says it's a family thing. He never misses."
"Did he guess your favorite too?" you asked, fascinated.
"Yeah," he chuckled. "It's hot cocoa with marshmallows. He says I have the palate of a six year old but if it ain't broke..."
While Carmy prepared your drink, you looked around the shop. There were beautiful confections with crazy flavors, covered in gold leaf, almost too beautiful to eat. But there were also dollops of milk chocolate with puffed rice, humble looking and ready for a kid to devour. Truly something for everyone.
When he handed you your coffee you asked: "What's your favorite?"
Carmy gave you a tense smile. "Hope you like it. Pleasure to meet you," he said and left.
"He says it's a secret," Richie handed you a napkin, then he added in a whisper: "I don't think he has one. He doesn't enjoy things that way."
"What way?"
"Uh, the normal way, I guess," Richie shrugged. "He barely eats the things he makes. Lives like a monk. It feels like he has to make chocolate 24/7 or some family curse is going to get him. Dunno if I'm making sense."
"Kind of," you said.
You took a sip of your drink and knew you were fucked forever. No chain coffeehouse would be able to compete with this.
~
It had been a couple of months since The Bear opened. They had a few loyal customers plus whatever weirdos wanted to see if Carmy was as spot on with his predictions as online reviews said he was - he never missed.
You had become friendly with the staff and had developed a routine of sorts with Carmy.
It probably wasn't healthy but you saw him as a mystery to solve. You didn't know about chocolate, not the way he did, but you knew baking, you understood how comfort and love could be encapsulated in a dessert. So you tried to find his favorite, the thing that would make his heart sing like he could do to you and every other person that walked into his chocolaterie. If nothing else, you got constructive criticism from a kindred spirit on a weekly basis.
Could use less cinnamon.
Maybe with brown sugar instead?
Oh, that's good.
What about blackberry jam?
Delicious... but not my favorite.
"Anyone told you you're a buzzkill?" you said with a dejected sigh.
"Many people. Often," he replied dryly.
"Richie doesn't count."
"Point still stands," he said, wiping crumbs from the flaky pastry you had brought. "People think I'm supposed to be having fun in there for the chocolate to be good when it's probably the opposite."
"It doesn't have to be like that, Carm," you said, exasperated. "You don't have to be fucking miserable for this to work."
He took a deep breath. You had never spelled it out so clearly and it clearly struck a nerve.
"I appreciate you," he said. "I do. But I'm fucked up. And you can't fix me with pies and cakes and-" he looked at the ceiling. "You're an incredible pastry chef. And you're so fucking nice but, uh, I think we should stop this."
"This?"
"You coming here and asking for feedback on your already perfect baked goods. I don't know what you're expecting from me but you look at me with those Bambi eyes and I always disappoint you," he ran a hand through his hair. "It fucks me up."
"Right." You picked up your stuff as quickly as you could, feeling heartbroken and humiliated. You knew you probably came off as needy but you hadn't realized just how much. You felt tears pricking at the corners of your eyes. "Sorry to bother you. Won't happen again."
And you left.
~
Weeks passed, weeks that you devoted to yourself, to feeling better, dressing pretty, baking delicious treats for happy customers, standing in front of the mirror to say nice things about your curvy body.
You had tried and failed to make Carmy see how much better his life could be if he let himself enjoy things, actually savor his chocolate instead of finding four things that were wrong with it upon his first bite. Only now you realized how similar you two were, both wanting to fix things that were probably best left alone. Carmy wasn't a recipe you could perfect and he wasn't your anything really to worry about.
It wasn't lost on you, the metaphor for everything you had been doing - his lithe body and your slightly overweight one, and how much you wanted his toned biceps on either side of your head as he panted above you, letting himself lose control for once. As you indulged in these fantasies, your fingers deep inside your pussy, you wondered whether he ever desired stuff that way. You pictured him, eyes rolled back in bliss, while he held you, and you came with a cry.
~
You were closing up for the night, cold wind ruffling your hair and your skirt.
"Hey."
You turned to see Carmy, blue apron underneath his wool coat.
"Hey," you said curtly, avoiding his glance.
"I, uh, I've been wanting to talk to you..." he said.
"Okay? Can you make it quick? I have to get up at four in the morning," the prickly part of you woke up at the sight of him.
"Listen, you don't need to do it if you don't want to but-" he handed you a paper bag with The Bear's logo on it. "I was wondering if you could make pain au chocolat with this?"
You received the bag cautiously. "How many?"
"I only need two," he mumbled and you scoffed. He knew - he fucking knew how hard it was to make the dough and that you couldn't just make two. "You can keep the rest of the chocolate," he offered.
"I'm still gonna charge you full price," you warned him.
"Of course."
You eyed him suspiciously, his bright eyes and open hands, his overall apologetic manner...
"Fine. I'll come by tomorrow after I close."
~
Maybe it was pride but you didn't try the pain au chocolat with Carmy's chocolate. Not one bite out of the entire batch you had baked. It would, of course, be excellent and you didn't want to give him that satisfaction.
"Here you go," you handed him the box, all pretty with a ribbon and a blank card ready to be gifted.
"Thank you," he gave you a shy smile. "Wanna sit down? I'll make you hot chocolate."
His shop was empty - only half the lights were on, and the sign at the door read 'Closed'.
"Come on," he insisted, his blue eyes pleading and you sighed in defeat, sitting by the counter next to him.
He served two cups of hot chocolate and plated the pastries, one for you and one for him.
"What are you-?" you started.
"When we first met, you asked me about my favorite," he explained. "Then you started bringing cookies and pie and muffins and it was so nice. I'm not used to nice things. And you were getting close. So I pushed you away and I Iashed out. I was an asshole."
"Yes, you were," you took a sip of your chocolate. He would be so much easier to hate if the things he made weren't so tasty.
"I'm not asking to go back to the way things were if you don't want that. I just hated how things ended," he nudged the plate towards you. "This is my favorite."
The pastry you had baked with the chocolate he had made.
"You haven't even tried it," you challenged him.
He took a bite and chewed slowly, savoring, a moan stuck in the back of his throat. You squeezed your thighs at the low, delicious sound.
"Fuck. That's perfect," he declared. Your heart beat faster. "Try it."
You took a bite. It was cozy and delicate, the rich chocolate caressing your tongue.
You nodded. "What a way to put my chocolate supplier to shame."
Carmy smiled, taking another big bite. "I'll give it to you for free if you keep making these."
You blushed at the double meaning and turned away.
"Fuck, that sounded awful. Sorry," Carmy said after a beat.
"It's okay," you laughed. You turned to face him, he had a giddy smile on his face that made him look younger and prettier.
"You have a-" he pointed at your lip but then he reached over and rubbed at your lower lip, wiping some leftover chocolate. He brought that same finger up to his mouth and sucked it clean. Your stomach dropped and you could feel yourself getting wet.
Carmy stood up, you could see his pupils dilate the closer he got, see his eyes linger on the low cut of your shirt.
"I thought that if I stopped seeing you, I would be able to focus," he whispered, his breath tickling your face. "I have never been so fucking distracted. Just thinking..." he kissed the side of your face, open mouthed and hungry. "Kept thinking of things I'd say to you, recipes I could share and shit like that," he mumbled, his hands ghosting over your thighs, playing with the hem of your skirt. "Thinking about your hands, kneading, working, and how they'd feel," following his lead you placed your hands over his chest, caressing his sides. He groaned. "Thinking about your body. Every part of it..."
"Touch me," you practically begged, moaning in satisfaction when he squeezed your breasts over your clothes.
"Imagining how sweet you'd taste," he panted against your lips, letting you close the small distance left, tasting his own chocolate in your mouth as he devoured you. You pulled on his hair, desperate to return every bit of passion he was giving you.
"Carmy," you gasped and brought him closer, opening your legs and scooting to the edge of your seat. His hard cock rubbed against your center, his hands were everywhere.
"So soft," he said, kissing down your neck to your chest. He palmed your breast with one hand and squeezed your hip with the other, guiding you to grind against his erection.
"Fuck," you cursed. "Like that."
You tugged on his hair, getting a low groan in response. You took the opportunity to shove your tongue inside his mouth and kiss him with all the hunger you had for him. He bit your lower lip and you moaned.
"You even sound sweet," he said absently, a desperate rhythm building between you.
"I thought of you too," you said, looking into his blue eyes, squeezing his ass to bring him closer. "Thought how'd beautiful you'd look when you came - all sweaty, your eyes on me."
"Fuck," he growled, his thrusts becoming frantic. "Can't wait to take you home. Fuck you properly. Fucking taste you..."
You could feel fireworks inside you, your pussy clenching around nothing, grinding desperately against Carmy, biting on his bicep to muffle a cry of ecstasy.
"Oh, my God," you gasped for breath as he chased his release, you grew pliant in his embrace, carding your fingers through his hair, legs shaking around his waist, your underwear soaked.
"Fuck," he froze and exhaled hard, his nose tickling your neck. "If you feel this good with your clothes on..."
You giggled. "Come on," you kissed his temple. "Let's close up shop."

The Joint Bakery + Cafe, 13718 Ventura Blvd, Los Angeles (Sherman Oaks), CA 91423
Tumblr media
The Joint Bakery + Cafe has a separate entrance and a separate area from The Joint Seafood market. You have to walk through Uoichiba, the handroll area, to get to the coffee counter. It’s a coffeehouse that serves espresso drinks (using coffee from Sightglass and Copa Vida). They bake their own cookies, bread, and pastries (muffins, Danish, cronut, croissants). You can also order sandwiches on housemade bread. The tuna that they use for the tuna salad is not from a can.
Blueberry citrus slice ($3): a thick slice of pound cake with whole blueberries. It was rather dry and lacked citrus flavor. I’m glad it wasn’t glazed and wasn’t too sweet but I would not get it again since I wanted citrus flavor.
Mini milk bread ($6): The milk bread is so good! It comes whole, so you can slice it how you like. The interior is soft and slightly sweet.
I like how the baked goods have a Japanese influence. They even have matcha and hojicha cookies. Will be back to try the sandwiches and maybe the coffee. The space is confusing but interesting.

Smoking Tiger, 15545 Whittier Blvd, Whittier, CA 90603, Score: 43/50
Tumblr media
Smoking Tiger is a Korean bakery in a strip mall in Whittier. They have a wide variety of baked goods and lots of coffee and tea drinks, including Korean drinks.
Score: 43/50
Food: 4/5 – Freshly baked offerings include cookies, scones, croissants (Nutella, guava, almond, matcha pistachio), financiers, cream cheese garlic bread, Basque cheesecakes, etc. They invented a cross between a cookie and a scone. The baked goods are less sweet. They’re good but I wouldn’t say that they’re fantastic.
Coffee: 5/5 – They serve espresso drinks, signature drinks, Jeju matcha, and Korean drinks like the banana milk latte and Korean honey oat.  It looks like they have their own coffee (coffee that is roasted for them or that they roast themselves). They’re known for their Jeju matcha drinks. My latte was quite good! As good as what you’d get at a good coffeehouse.
Wi-fi: 5/5 – Free, unlimited, seemed fast
Ambiance: 5/5 – Spacious, lots of seats
Noise: 3/5 – Loud music but otherwise quiet
Plugs: 3/5 – Some along the wall
Parking: 5/5 – Park as long as you want in the strip mall
Comfort: 5/5 – Chairs are padded, lots of two top tables
Bathroom: 5/5 – Two restrooms
Art: 3/5 – None, framed pictures of their drinks
Tips: Coffee beans and coffee accessories for sale. They sell some of their own merch.

Of fathers and daughters
This is a Coffeehouse!AU with a one word prompt brumous (adj.) - of grey skies and winter days; filled with heavy clouds or fog for @its--fandom--darling 1000 follower celebration!
I don’t know when I’ll really feel like mixing up some word salad again so I’m throwing myself in this one. This is probably the last Henry piece I’ll work on for a while so, might as well, right? Henry takes his daughter to his favorite little coffeehouse and gets some help when he least expects it.
Warnings: talks about a very difficult pregnancy, PPD, and new parent struggles. aside from that, ITS SO FLUFFY YOU ARE GOING TO DIE!!! Also mom jokes, which are like dad jokes. But they cute you to the core.
Not beta’d: all you can eat typos.
Tumblr media
“Hush, my darling. Lets give Mummy some time to nap, sweet girl.” Henry said in a soothing tone to the baby as she whimpered in discontentment. The infant was just so tiny as he held her against his warm chest. The diaper bag was on the handle of pram, a cozy blanket was readily available as was a snuggly puppy stuffy that looked just like Kal. A fan had hand stitched it for the growing family shortly after the Cavill clan announced the pregnancy.
The tiny manifestation of he and his wifes love for each other loudly protested her sudden change of scenery and cold air on her face as soon as they walked out the front door. The motion of the buggy seemed to calm her. “I know, my love, we wont be outside for long, I promise. We are just going to go see Auntie Sif. She’s just down the street.”
The sky was a dark grey as they trekked down the road to Henry’s favorite coffeehouse. It perfectly matched his mood for the afternoon. Being parents to a baby that after everything was said and done the doctor was even surprised made it full term had been emotionally taxing. Her umbilical chord had only one artery, and the increased hormones made his wife miserable practically as soon as implantation even happened. It started with an aversion to eggs and just got worse from there.
They were both exhausted, but his wife definitely didn’t have the easiest time. If his love could cure what ailed her, there would be no bad days. But depression just doesn’t work like that.
Arriving at the coffeehouse, the warmth and laughter inside welcomed him. The smell of soup and the occasional notes of espresso greeted his soul.
“Well hey there, stranger!” A bright voice called out from behind the counter. “Oooh, you brought my littlest sweetheart to see me! Where is Momma?”
“Hello, Sif. We are on a daddy-daughter adventure so Mummy can take a nap. My god does it smell good in here.” The tiny woman came up and hugged him hard. She then pivoted immediately to look at the pink wrapped baby laying down in the pram.
“Good man, and it smells so good in here because I made your favorite soup today.” She said, smiling, her eyes teared up a little at the little girl wiggling.
“You didn’t even know I was coming.” He laughed. When they had gone to
“You go take a seat, darlin’, I’ll get you set up. Your usual, right?” Her vaguely southern accent popped out when she was really happy. He looked around the space. Her husband was in the corner teaching a younger patron how to play Warhammer. He never remembered his name, but in his mind he called the red bearded man Thor. He looked up and waved at new dad.
“For coffee, yes. Can I get the soup and sandwich thing you make me?”
“Of course.” Moments later, Sif came out with a tray in one of her hands. She placed a steaming bowl of soup in front of him with a heel of a fresh baguette from a local bakery. The sandwich was so big he almost couldn’t wrap his lips around it. The latte was perfect, but like always, she made the foam look like a dick.
As soon he dug into the sandwich, his baby started screaming until her face was bright red. Henry tried everything, checked her wants, needs, but the crying continued. Before he could run through the mental checklist again, he looked up and saw Sif walking over. “Oh no, sweet girl, are you giving Daddy a hard time? How can I help, Hen?”
“I don’t know what she wants, her nappy is clean, she didn’t want the bottle.”
“Maybe she just needs a new view, can I hold her?” Henry nodded. “Alright, Chicken, come here. Daddy should be able to eat his lunch while it’s hot, right?”
“Did you just call my daughter a... a farm animal?” Henry asked between mouthfuls of soup.
“My Grammy used to call my sister Chicken and I was Chicken Little. I think it’s a Massachusetts thing. Or Irish, her grandmother used to call her Chicken too. I call my daughter it occasionally.” The woman stood up and started rocking back and forth and pacing a little. Soon the little girl was snuggled into her chest, perfectly content as long as she could see her daddy. In a smooth voice, almost musical, she rubbed the two month old’s back. “See, everything is alright. You just relax, my littlest sweetheart, that way my biggest sweetheart can take good care of you once he’s eaten. Yeah, does that sound like a good idea?”
Before long the baby drifted back to sleep so Sif leaned her back to hold her more comfortably, Thor walked up to his wife with his car keys in his hand, chuckling. “Before you get any ideas. No.”
“No, I know. I like my babies these days the way I like my library books, returnable.” His wife said. “Getting the wee shebeast from school? Drive safe, my love.”
Continuing to rock back and forth with the expertise of someone who has helped many babies fall asleep, Sif hummed gently. Henry finished his food as quickly as he could. “I appreciate how good you’ve been to us, Sif. The Missus loved the cookies you baked her.”
“I am happy to make her more whenever she wants them. You both have been far kinder to me than I could have ever hoped for. You told all your friends how much you liked our place and honestly that made a huge difference. I wouldn't have made some of the friends I have without you, and I can’t thank you enough for that. How is your wife doing?”
“Its been rough, but she’s been hanging in there.”
“Well, give both of you some grace. I know you will get a million people telling you that you should enjoy every minute because they are fleeting. And I’m sure you will get more people who will give you a hard time for not being grateful for every sleepless night. But I’m going to tell you this, as an unsolicited veteran parent to a new one, sometimes babies are hard. You don’t know each other yet and you don’t understand what the other wants. They have no idea of patience, or object permanence. Whenever something go wrong for the first, like, I don’t know, eight years of their lives, try to remember that it could very well be the worst thing that could have ever happened to them so they will react accordingly.” Sif gently stroked the soft hair on the babies head. Looking at the little angelic face in her arms, “So much hard work, so much heartbreak. But, if you do the right by her, you’ll make the world a little bit better. But you know that, you have nieces and nephews. You guys are doing great.”
Henry nodded taking the baby back into his arms. “Thank you, Sif.”
“I’m going to go package up some soup for Momma, give you guys one less thing to worry about tonight.” She said, squeezing his shoulder gently. She came back a few minutes later with a container with some supper for his wife.
“We’ll see you soon, my friend.” Henry said, tired still but ready to go home. He leaned down and hugged the small woman. “We love you, thank you again.”
“Be safe, give Kal some love for me.”

The History of Muffins
Tumblr media
The History of Muffins [Own Article]
A muffin is an individual-sized, baked product. It can refer to two distinct items, a part-raised flatbread and a cupcake-like quick bread. The flatbread is a British or European derivation, and dates from at least the early 18th century, while the quick bread originated in North America during the 19th century. Both are common worldwide today.
Quick-bread muffins or simply as "muffins" originated in the United States in the mid-19th century. The use of the term to describe what are essentially cup cakes or buns did not become common usage in Britain until the last decades of the 20th century on the back of the spread of coffee shops. They are similar to cupcakes in size and cooking methods, the main difference being that cupcakes tend to be sweet desserts using cake batter and which are often topped with sugar icing. Muffins are available in both savoury varieties, such as cornmeal and cheese muffins, or sweet varieties such as blueberry, chocolate chip, lemon or banana flavours. They are often eaten as a breakfast food, often accompanied by coffee or tea. Fresh baked muffins are sold by bakeries, donut shops and some fast food restaurants and coffeehouses. Factory baked muffins are sold at grocery stores and convenience stores and are also served in some coffee shops and cafeterias.

Mysteries for Foodies: Book Recs
Honey Roasted by Cleo Coyle
While struggling to find a romantic (and affordable) destination for her upcoming honeymoon, coffeehouse manager Clare Cosi whips up a honey of a drink made from honey-processed coffee. Clare plans to serve her outstanding new Honey-Cinnamon Latte at her spring wedding to her longtime honey, NYPD Detective Mike Quinn. The culinary world is also abuzz about the amazing honey that Clare was lucky enough to source for her shop's new latte. Produced by Madame's old friend Queen Bea Hastings, the rare, prize-winning nectar from Bea's rooftop hives commands a premium price, and top chefs compete for a chance to use it in their signature seasonal dishes. One night, a swarm of escaped bees blanket the Village Blend's chimney, and Clare discovers Bea's unconscious body after she seemingly fell from her high-rise rooftop-hive setup. The police want to rule it as a tragic accident or possible attempted suicide. But Clare doesn't believe either theory. Like Madame, she knows this Queen would never abandon her hive. To sort out this mystery, Clare investigates a world of cutthroat chefs, culinary startups, and competitive urban beekeepers. But can she uncover the truth without getting stung?

Not literally however. When a guest at the PennDutch Inn drops dead shortly after consuming a slice of Barbara's delicious Blitz torte, Magdalena finds herself arrested for murder. As co-owners of Eastport’s beloved waterfront bakery, The Chocolate Moose, Jake and Ellie know their customers expect them to cream the competition. But they’re really just in it for fun, hoping to get Jake’s daughter-in-law baking again. Those plans collapse when fearsome local curmudgeon Alvin Brown is murdered, and every crumb of evidence points to Tiptree family friend—and all-around sweet guy—Billy Sewell. Billy’s sisters beg Jake and Ellie to prove his innocence. After all, lots of folks had gone sour on Alvin--the only thing the retired lawyer liked better than bilking widows was swindling orphans, and several victims of his long-ago schemes still lived in Eastport. But just as the ladies begin sifting through the suspects, a series of grassfires blaze across the island, cutting off access to the mainland. Could someone be trying to hide the truth about Alvin’s murder? Now, Jake and Ellie will need all their courage—and an extra dash of that down-east Maine stubbornness—to sniff out the real killer before anyone else gets burned . . .

Coffee Shops in San Francisco You Need to Visit Before You Die
Trouble Coffee Co. is your tiny coffee shop that may.  Using its first place based from a very small store in the far reaches of the Outer Sunset, Trouble Coffee sparked San Francisco's artisanal toast trend using $4.00 cinnamon-sugar toast thick bread.  (Hey, the title just begun to make sense for us because you are going to be in trouble with their bread - calorie-wise, and maybe financially, also.)  Founded by Giulietta Carrelli, Trouble has enlarged its small coffeehouse's (and coconut club) achieve with just two new places in Bayview and Oakland - combined with its own toast offerings.
youtube
Coffee shops are a dime-a-dozen at San Francisco. Are there so many?  SF is a worldwide leader in the innovative, third-wave java motion - a movement which intends to generate high quality java as an artisanal solution, such as craft wine or beer. This is excellent news for us, as San Franciscans enjoy their coffee.  We narrowed our list down on the very best, and the top of the very best to provide you with this list of coffee shops you need to see before you die. Down the road from UCSF's Parnassus Medical Center is currently Golden Bear Trading Company.  This unassuming coffee shop sells breakfast meals, spirits and coffee-snob accepted drinks.  This little cafe is a must-go for java fans in the City, also has been showcased on Yelp's Best 100 Places to Eat.  Sam, the enthusiastic owner of Golden Bear, is known to state that in the event you do not believe his coffee is the best, he will provide you another cup at no cost.  Challenge approved, Sam!
Coffee Bar Papa November is a java truck indefinitely in the corner of 15th Street and Kansas at San Francisco's Design District, across the road by the Design Center and Design Within Reach.  While there is no seating, the java makes up for this.  Serving Stumptown coffee, the truck rotates a choice of beans weekly.  In addition they sell homemade baked products which change every day.  What do you need to purchase at Papa November?  The Claris - cold milk lotion with espresso.  Evidently, there's no seating at Papa November's java truck, so grab a cup to go in your way into the workplace or to get you prepared for a evening of furniture purchasing.
Saint Frank Coffee Piccino Coffee Bar No listicle of San Francisco coffee shops are complete without Philz Coffee.  Scratch that.   San Francisco would not be full without Philz!  Phil Jaber was the proprietor of a miniature supermarket at The Mission District and wished to leave behind a larger legacy for his son, Jacob.  In his quest to make the ideal coffee, it took seven years to receive his very first coffee mix, Tesoro, only perfect.  Philz is a San Francisco staple with 14 places in the City along with 15 other people across the Bay Area.  (Philz has also enlarged to Los Angeles, and he has his eyes set on Washington, DC - we would say he is likely to leave behind a fantastic legacy.)  The Mint Mojito Iced Coffee is one of the very well-known items, together with the Mocha Tesora - but you really can't go wrong with anything else here.
This stylish, contemporary coffee shop situated just from 19th Avenue & Noriega is popularly famous for its communal tables, comfy environment and diverse espresso creations.  Popular with students and a hipster crown, the menu consists of large pieces of paper onto the wall.  What do you need to purchase at Home?  Without a doubt: the lavender latte.  If lavender isn't something (or you are afraid that your coffee will taste like soap - a legitimate concern, although it's capital-D Delicious), try out the sea salt caramel and coconut vanilla java.   House  - 1222 Noriega Street, San Francisco, CA The Mill is the beloved child of Four Barrel Coffee and Josey Baker Bread about the buzzing Divisadero Street corridor involving NoPa and Alamo Square.  The Mill serves up tasty, velvety espresso beverages, java, artisanal toasts and granola (change seasonally and comprise weekly specials) roasted by Josey Baker Bread, pastries from Neighbor Bakehouse, biscuits from Anthony's and donuts from Dynamo Donuts.  If your taste buds have not already exploded while dreaming about the goodness that is The Mill, prepare The Mill includes Pizza Night every Monday from 6:00-9:00PM plus a Grilled Cheese & Soup Night on Wednesdays, 6:00-9:00PM.  Seriously, is that this location heaven-in-SF?   We recommend ordering an espresso beverage with a Pistachio Blackberry Croissant.
Seriously, you will find more than 300 coffee shops across the City - that is approximately 6 per square mile! This hipster-chic cafe can be found on top Polk Street in Russian Hill.  With soaring ceilings, ample all-natural light, clean lines and glossy, white and walnut interior, Saint Frank can make you feel as though you've been hauled to Copenhagen.  As you may have guessed, Saint Frank is called after our beloved City.  The menu is modest, and the coffee is on the side (in true Nordic type ).  Our Favourite creation in Saint Frank is your Almond Macadamia Latte.   Saint Frank Coffee - 2340 Polk Street, San Francisco, CA Founded in 1935, Graffeo Coffee Roasting Company is one of North America's earliest artisan coffee roasters.  You will find Graffeo just up the road from Washington Square Park in the heart of North Beach, San Francisco's famous Italian grotto.  Graffeo is not really a cafe; it is a roaster.  You may just purchase their deliciously roasted beans or reasons.  Totally worthwhile.
Réveille Coffee started in 2010 when brothers Thomas and Christopher Newbury started selling coffee from a repurposed delivery truck.  Six decades and four places afterwards, Réveille serving some of San Francisco's tastiest espresso and coffee beverages.  After moving to Mission Bay only six weeks before, Cafe Réveille is currently creating a lot of buzz on Yelp and social websites.  With vivid colors along with small, artsy decor, Cafe Réveille is a superb place to catch java, breakfast/lunch or invest just a tiny bit of time .  (Notice: Cafe Réveille is open for dinner and drinks each evening.)  All beans are roasted in house, and also their mocha is one of the most well-known things on the menu.  Réveille Coffee has different places in Jackson Square,
The Castro and North Beach.   Fog Lifter Cafe is a small, quaint coffee shop located in the center of Ingleside.  This unpretentious hangout - favorite with local residents and SFSU and CCSF students - functions tasty coffee roasted by Blue Bottle and Sightglass, in addition to smoothies, pastries, breakfast scrambles, panini sandwiches and much more.  This store specializes in pour-over java.   Home Piccino is a contemporary Italian trattoria with a cute linking coffee pub.  This very small coffee bar functions Sightless java, oven-hot stick buns and other homemade pastries which are sure to delight.  Open till 10:00PM, it is the perfect stop after dinner at the Dogpatch to get a cappuccino.  Even though the coffee bar doesn't have seating, it is possible to get a seat in the nice Woods Yard Park across the road.   Piccino Coffee Bar - 807 22nd Street, San Francisco, CA
Coffee Bar - 1890 Bryant Street, San Francisco, CA Ritual Coffee Roasters sparked a java renaissance at San Francisco after launching in 2005.  Based from The Mission, Ritual has enlarged to include four places such as Bayview's Flora Grubb Gardens along with Napa's Oxbow Public Market.  Our favorite is your outpost in Hayes Valley's PROXY - a modified shipping container that is positively hipsteriffic.  Get caffeinated using their tasty Gibraltar Coffee, San Francisco's version of a Cortado, and head to Chantal Guillon to Get a sweet pairing.
Ritual Coffee in PROXY - 432b Octavia Street, San Francisco, CA Situated between the Mission District and Potrero Hill is Coffee Bar, one of the favorite places in San Francisco.  This comfy, but contemporary coffeehouse includes a split-level store with sidewalk and courtyard seating, also serves espresso and coffee beverages sourced from Mr. Espresso.  This exceptional place provides breakfast and lunch items, such as sandwiches, salads and, of course, candy.  Come via this relaxing coffeehouse to their Havana Latte - YUM!
Tumblr media
Another Bay Area first (Oakland, to be exact ), you can't ever fail at Blue Bottle Coffee.  With exceptional places around the globe (Blue Tooth recently opened store in Tokyo), java fans everywhere flock to Blue Bottle for yummy, handmade beverages - particularly their famous iced coffee beverages: the chicory-flavored New Orleans Iced Coffee and sweet Vietnamese Iced Coffee.  Our favourite Blue Bottle outpost is certainly that the semi-hidden Linden Alley store in Hayes Valley which works from a garage, also surrounded by graffiti artwork A ideal pit stop before or after a day of shopping Hayes Valley's many boutiques.   On silent Lawton Street at the Outer Sunset is located Andytown Coffee Roastersfamous for their Snowy Plover iced expresso beverage.  It is a mixture of brewed espresso, sparkling water and brown sugar syrup, topped with tasty house-made whipped cream which provides Cool Whip a run for their money.  This beverage is merely one of the factors for its long lines which frequently file the door out.  (That, and the fact that Andytown packs at a coffee store, roastery and bakery all in its 600 square foot store!)  Do not skip the Northern Irish soda bread and scones.  Added bonus: it is only a couple of blocks from Ocean Beach.

Biscuit or cookie variants include sandwich biscuits, such as custard creams, Jammie Dodgers, Bourbons and Oreos, with marshmallow or jam filling and sometimes dipped in chocolate or another sweet coating. Cookies are often served with beverages such as milk, coffee or tea and sometimes "dunked", an approach which releases more flavour from confections by dissolving the sugars,[4] while also softening their texture. Breadblok, 1529 Griffith Park Blvd, Los Angeles (Silver Lake), CA 90026
Tumblr media
Breadblok’s mission is to make the best gluten-free baked goods, using the finest ingredients. Everything they make is also organic, free of soy, gums and refined sugar. If you follow some type of special diet, this place is for you (vegan, gluten-free, Keto, egg-free, nut-free). It’s also gorgeous with the best service.
Plus, there’s a lot more than bread and pastries (whole loaves, croissants, donuts, muffins, tarts, cakes, scones). They also have a food menu (soup, toast, sandwiches, tartines, quiche, salads), coffee & espresso drinks, wine, and grab & go drinks, salads, overnight oats and yogurt parfaits. And they sell some merch like their shirts, organic coffee beans (roasted for them), housemade crackers, etc.
Order at the counter. They’ll give you a number and bring your food to you. They also checked on me a few times and brought water. So nice.
Vanilla brioche donut: FYI, one donut is $8.50. I tried a sample and it was nice, a little denser than your regular donut with a vanilla cream filling. Not crazy sweet. It’s gluten-free but not vegan.
Mushroom soup with toast (2 pieces), $10: Pretty good price! Probably a bargain when you consider the price of the pastries (e.g., $10 for a croissant, $22 for a loaf of bread). Very good soup too – a bowl of it (bigger than a cup): pureed mushrooms with cream and sliced mushrooms plus herb oil on top. Lots of mushrooms, not too salty. Really liked it and I didn’t know it came with toast.
Grilled cheese (your choice of bread, I chose buckwheat sourdough), $13: This was okay. I thought the cheddar might be vegan because it didn’t have much flavor but I was told they don’t use vegan cheese. Also, there wasn’t much cheese. The buckwheat bread (gluten-free) was fairly dense but had a natural sweetness and nuttiness that I like. I didn’t taste butter either. Needed more butter and cheese. The price is comparable to what you’d pay at Tartine or some artisanal bakery in LA.
Cappuccino (8 oz, $5): nice foam art, stronger, bitter, not bad but I’ve had much better. It’s not a coffeehouse though.
Love the look of the shop (clean, light woods, marble counter, Scandinavian inspired?), the covered outdoor patio with planters, wood tables, and natural colored fabric. There’s free wi-fi. It’s off the main street so it’s quiet and a bit hard to spot.
Breadblok currently has three locations. Even their paper takeout bag is stylish. They do a brisk takeout business. Sign up to earn rewards.
4 out of 5 stars

Little Ground, 1450 Flower St., Glendale, CA 91201, Score: 33/50
Tumblr media
This part of Glendale seems so industrial, like there’s nothing out here. Little Ground seems like the only option for food and drink, at least that I know about. The people who come here seem like people who work in entertainment (not sure). Prices are cheaper than I expected.
Score: 33/50
Food: 5/5 – I thought this was a coffeehouse that served food, but it turns out that the food is better than the coffee. It’s a bakery café that serves coffee. Breakfast (breakfast burritos, quiche, breakfast sandwiches) is served till 2:30 PM. Lunch (sandwiches, salads) is served from 11:30 AM – 2:30 PM (they close at 4 PM). The brioche sandwich with scrambled eggs, spinach, mushrooms and cheese on a brioche bun ($7.50) was hot, big, and delicious. The spinach, mushrooms, and cheese were mixed in with the eggs. The brioche bun was soft, warm, and sweet. They also have their baked goods – croissants, scones, financiers, muffins, etc. The financier was pretty sweet but also nice and moist.
Coffee: 4/5 – The latte art was nice and the latte was good but it seemed like the beans were a bit overroasted. The flavor wasn’t as smooth as the better places.
Wi-fi: 5/5 – Free, unlimited, and fast. The password is on the receipt.
Ambiance: 3/5 – It’s an outdoor, covered patio in a U shape.
Noise: 3/5 – Very few campers, lots of traffic noise – from the I-5 freeway.
Plugs: 0/5 – I didn’t see any.
Parking: 4/5 – It seems easy to find and unlimited.
Comfort: 3/5 – You can sit on concrete or metal chairs. The tables are small but can be pushed together if you have a larger crowd. I doubt anyone sits here when it rains and it could get very hot on certain days.
Bathroom: 3/5 – One unisex
Art: 3/5 – None but there are no walls.
Tips: Order at the window. Get your own utensils, water, and condiments. Baked goods are half off between 3 – 4 PM.
