BUUUT in my AU, they are really close and have a pretty confusing, but mostly positive, friendship! Honestly a lot of this is me sorta just rambling off concepts about them in my AU but. What am i if not off topic. i wrote liek 35898 pages

to begin, Toby met Nina through Jeff. Jeff would be hanging around the area, arm around Nina, showing her off like she's some trophy. so toby didnt really think much of her at first, just one of jeffs chicks - not really her own person. He’d not think twice when jeff would tell her to get the guys a beer or tell her to fix her clothes or generally being shitty to her - until jeff raises his voice at Nina, then toby is more likely to Sit up and watch a bit more carefully cuz he doesnt know what to expect and hes not gonna just watch jeff scream at her (although she’d be quick to scream back). 

I like to think that’d be one of the tuning moments for their relationship, jeff starts berating nina and standing up, toby perks up and is getting ready to intervene cuz it brings back bad memories, and nina starts screaming back cuz she DGAF. she dgaf. So toby would be like oh. Okay. so she does think for herself. an d the next time jeff tells nina to go get them beers, toby might be like “nah its fine i can get my own” rather than nodding along. FIX HIS BRAIN A LITTLE BIT. 

BUT because nina was coworkers with Natalie for a while(and friends), he eventually started hanging around nina more often casually. it sounds shitty but he used her for ego boosts cuz she was so quick to fawn over him ("you're so strong!! oh, that scar is so cool! i looove this haircut on you toby, let me touch!"). And i think its pretty nice for both of them, sort of passive bonding? AND they're both naturally pretty touchy people (toby wrapping his arms around shoulders, patting backs, picking people up, messing with hair. nina leaning on people, holding hands, tracing shapes, sitting on laps). i like to think that was one of the things that reaaaaallly got on jeffs nerves, which is part of the reason jeff and nina become so toxic with nonstop cheating on eachother, screaming matches, and his eventual stabbing. and part of why jeff and toby went from being pretty good buddies, to getting physically violent with eachother at the drop of the hat. And nina is really, really appreciative to have someone do that for her - cuz she’s the type to sit on the fence between friends, play both sides, not be assertive about who was right/wrong, etc and she’s used to everyone around her brushing off her feelings and how she’s treated. so toby firmly being like “he hurt you, i care about you, so i dont fuck with him anymore. Simple” would make her feel very like Wow. i feel important.

HOWEVER, they’re both really emotional, and really, really sensitive. It presents different, with ninas emotions being more like a breaking dam of tears and screaming and drowning in it, while toby is explosive shouting and burning and aggressive and just wants to suffocate the fire. Toby is a hypocrite though, and views Nina’s emotions as weak and pathetic just cuz she’ll cry and babble. He doesnt quite grasp that theyre both sensitive, he just validates his own anger as a ‘useful’ emotion that ‘gets shit done’ while nina is a whining babbling mess who wallows in it… AND HE’LL TELL HER THAT LMAAAOOO. And nina is mean and spiteful and will be crying while going off about how he’s a virgin loser little bitch with mommy and daddy issues and this and that and toby would just be like You fucking know what. anyway tho like. overall (SPOILER FREE!!) natlan first impressions over last week in no particular order for me bc i felt like it sooooo

Firstly: the environments are absolutely insane like. i love the vibrancy they brought into it and the striking distinct sceneries between the three main regions (tho lowkey any water region post-fontaine is... unfortunate for basically feeling like its lacking a layer w/o diving) that rly make them feel unique!! like i havent explored an insane amount but a decent bit nonetheless and i think as much as i Liked fontaine the aboveground environments there just werent that unique which like. kinda couldnt be helped given the geographic inspirations like it was good and v beautiful in its own way but more like. mondstadt premium french steampunk edition if that makes sense. whereas natlan is already striking such a distinct image for itself and thats just great

also loving all the kinds of living creatures going about everywhere like not even accounting for the saurians genshins rly come so far from the early days of barely any non-monster creature anywhere (mondstadt cavalry but no horses moment) and i love all the creatures sm 💕💕 Especially all the surprise chests theyve incorporated into tiny interactions with the animals like it just feels v fresh and immersive. theyve rly nailed the feeling of making the natural environment feel lived in its so nice

the music is also just. knocking it out of the park like ive had to pause on multiple occasions just to listen bc holy shit its good 😭😭😭 and this is also sth i think compares to fontaine bc. i mean as much as of a cringe moment the whole "wow YPC left and now fontaine music is mid its over" tantrum was (ESPECIALLY once remuria dropped like 💀💀💀 that was just gloating . A whole music based region and culture????? ya we get it) buuut. now w natlan. i do have to admit that fontaine does suffer from some of its environmental soundtracks not being as distinctly memorable as previous nations and now natlan as well . obviously fontaine has its shiver-worthy standouts but its interesting that most of those for me are bc of their use in the AQ and that association . whereas natlans been jumpscaring me left and right on the first listen lmao . anyway to be clear the point is not me hating on fontaine music for lacking impact (but never polish or quality) in some tracks just that hoyomix in natlan is delivering some insanely good stuff rn jsjskskskakdkdk

next. SAURIANS. hoyo. Hoyo . WHY DO WE HAVE TO KILL THEM????????!??? HELLO????@?

ITS SO AWFUL I FEEL LIKE A MONSTER 😭😭😭😭😭 like the small ones?????? The whelps WHIMPERING?????? id rather you punched me in the face this is horrible 😭😭 like you rly saw all the complaints about killing the cute sea creatures in fontaine being too cruel and we dont want that and went bet 💀💀💀 why do i have to wear the skin of a baby saurians mom to murder the kids its so. This is terrible why would you do thisss. id rather merk 7848 seals in Fontaine than hurt a single saurian its so badd

But uhhhhh yeah saurians are great, i rly rly love their goofy animations and how much personality each kind exudes theyre just . Lovable shaped and all i just wish they didnt. Make them THE abundant overworld enemy we need for mats 💀💀💀

In all seriousness tho gameplay wise i really like how the saurians kinda bridge the gap between the older 1.x-2.x exploration where it was really mostly just you with your characters not that many exploration mechanics to boost mobility and traversal at all and then the 3.x era and afterwards where there are all forms of assistance from things like the dendro anchors and chenyu vale mechanics and everything bc. as much as the mobility boosts are nice they kinda had the risk of taking you Out of the exploration so it just turns into a zoom around with gadgets mini game ya know???? But i think w the saurians its a lot more balanced bc. youre still playing As a specific character with their own movement and controls not just getting warped from 1 location to another as a hydro bubble and thats rly rly nice. tho i have to say the koholasaur controls are kinda ass compared to the other 2 lmao . like ig its just post fontaine problems where we Already Got flawless underwater movement so its just. not the saurian alone but the water environments themselves just being ehhh without that added... depth (haha) there??

anyway unfortunately tho on a more negative note wrt the characters im still very uhhhh. mixed on the very modern design direction taken for the playable units and the overall lack of cohesion between a lot of them like. yes natlan is its own thing with different tribes and it should stand out but something about it just takes it a bit too far for suspension of disbelief . the three 5.0 characters i think look overall good and work well enough, but then theres designs like chasca and mavuika where its just . Ehhhh.

like chasca in particular (and im sorry in advance for never letting you unsee this either) i havent been able to stop thinking about a comment i saw about how like. her makeup is WAY too detailed and intense for genshins facial models and makes her face look really weird and just kind of like a bratz doll? compared to the rest of the cast like its really this borderline "yassified" parody of a heavy makeup look that just. Doesnt look natural nor fit in with the rest of genshins characters roster and she just looks off its . Weird. like obviously ik theres a lot of v intense hate going on for her design to the point where its actively hurtful to those who like her and idt thats good at all but this is kinda why her model has such issues for me. and the mess of an outfit doesnt help with the uncanny face stuff either lmao

mavuika is more of an outfit problem honestly like. her hair is good the eyes are amazing the color scheme is great & love the sun motifs and her hair accessory but i just. a biker????? Huh? and not even a particularly good looking biker design its literally just a plain bodysuit design without the usual detailing and dangly things to make it look better from the back that theyve usually done w bodysuit type charas (think shenhe) its just this. uncomfortable looking sausage casing of a disaster garment and that zipper is just.... not it 💀💀💀 like. it doesnt look completely awful if i dont actively think about it so its like whatever but i wish she was given sth a bit different. also ffs i hope she doesnt get ACTUAL motorbike animations like the memes are funny yeah but. thats too much for me sorry thats hsr and zzz stuff . like its just. The overt modernity in natlan isnt doing it for me very much 😔😔

But oh well i hope ill warm up to the cast over time. beyond mby chasca its not like i hate-hate the look of anyone to the point where its off putting its just a Bit of a mixed feeling for now. kinich and citlali are easily my favorites from the revealed designs tho and i do actually like xilonen as well (& kachina is baby) . n like to be fair maybe its just not my style this time around - fontaine was Really catering to me personally with the designs there bc i love ruffles and lolita style inspirations and more historical fashion references and uniform-like elements for garments so a lot of designs were just hook line and sinker for me personally lmao . but ig that does make it very fucking predictable that my favorite design in natlans cast so far is Easily capitano even tho he kinda doesnt count bc i just fucking love goth historical military uniform aesthetics so much its embarrassing 😭😭😭 dont ask me how many times ive rewatched The cutscene just to watch the way his garments shift around as he moves at the beginning its...........

BUT. i have to say. Absolutely LOVE how the reputations are now distributed among the tribes and how much more lived in the entire nation feels compared to p much. ANY previous one by having multiple settlements and communities that all get their own quests and narratives like. yes its a natlan thing bc it has the 6 tribes but i RLY wish theyll keep some version of this system for snezhnaya too bc like. Especially with the story quest incorporation into the tribal chronicles chain its just??? Such an organic way to tie a playable character INTO their environment and community in a way thats been a major failing in a lot of older SQs before like its just. genius

anyway point being. just Imagine playable tonia happening except theres also some sort of morepesok reputation questline and system like??? Actually featuring the village and its people AND childes entire family fr fr in their own storyline in a voiced capacity?? Please itd be so good 😭😭😭😭

but yeah i love the tribal chronicles approach so much its like the perfect marriage between world quests and story quests and reputation like chef kiss truly. and also new bounty and request QoL is great.

he was deep in one of his books down in the living room, the lights off aside from the lamp beside him and a few nightlights he set up around graceland just for you. mary was the last to leave, wandering over to the front door and smiling over at elvis, “good night, elvis.” she said sweetly.

“night, mary. y/n still sleepin’?” he asked.

“mhm, he’s sound asleep.” she nodded.

elvis grinned, “good, good. have a good night. thank you.”

but then 2 am turned to 3 am, and he still couldn’t sleep. still buried in his book, he heard small footsteps nearing—causing him to sit up quickly, his brain not registering that it was probably you and not an intruder. “oh.” he let out a relieved sigh seeing it was just you, “it’s 3 am, baby, whatchu doin’ awake, huh?”

“can’t sleep, daddy.” you mumbled. “scary dream.”

elvis gasped, setting his book aside. “well, we can’t have that, can we? c’mere.” he opened his arms wide and allowed you to sit on his lap. he lifted you a bit to get more comfortable, pressing his lips at the top of your head. “wanna tell me what happened?”

you looked at him sadly, “a big mean man came 'n took me away from you 'n said you didn't love me." you sniffled, "i wasn't allowed t' see you ever again 'n you didn't bother lookin' for me either..."

he tsk'd, shaking his head. "oh, you poor, poor thing." his hand rubbed up and down your back gently, "y'know that ain't true, right? i do love ya."

you furrowed your brows, "you do?"

"of course!" he tapped your nose with the tip of his finger, earning a soft giggle in response. "i ain't gonna let a big, mean man come and take somethin' so precious from me."

the way you covered your face with your hands out of embarrassment made his heart swoon, a soft chuckle leaving his lips as he took ahold of your hands. "and lemme tell you somethin'—i know a big, mean man. if he ever tries to take ya away with me, y'know what i'm gonna tell him? hm?" he asked, tickling at your sides.

you let out a squeal, "what?" you asked, trying to escape from his home.

"i'm gonna tell him–"you ain't takin' them away from me. nuh uh. either bun stays with me, or you're gettin' kicked to the curb." i ain't workin' with nobody who disrespects you or tries to take you away from me. i can promise you that, honey." with a warm smile, he pressed his lips against the top of your forehead, holding you close as his way of protecting you.

"you sure, daddy?"

"ain't no way am i letting anybody come and sweep you away from me. i promise." he nodded. "it was just a bad dream. nothin' more."

you snuggled into his shoulder, your arms wrapped around him as you let out a soft yawn. he let out a soft hum, rubbing your back again. "you wanna go back to bed?" he asked, a soft mhm escaping your lips as a response. "alright, kiddo. i'll let ya sleep in my bed tonight."

he carried you up the steps and to his bedroom, laying you carefully onto his large mattress and pulling the covers over you. he tucked you in securely, kissing your cheek and turning out the light before going to make his way out of his bedroom.

"wait—"

elvis turned to look at you, "y-you not comin' to bed either?" you asked softly.

"oh." he scratched the side of his head, looking around unsurely. he was tired, but he knew he wouldn't be able to fall asleep. "i guess i can." he smiled and got under the covers with you, letting you rest your head on his chest as you snuggled into his side.

you tilted your head up to look at him, "can you read to me?"

his lips turned up slightly, picking up a book he had on his nightstand. "i thought you'd never ask."

it's been... over a week now, but i still do feel a bit sore. my ribs hurt a bit, but it's manageable. the bruise on my right ankle is itchy but healing. going out feels a little anxious, though. cars moving fast scare me???

im planning on getting back to work wednesday because im so tired of just being cooped up in the house.

i think i said this, but i ammmm a bit stressed??? uh, that lady didnt have insurance. i got the report a few days ago, and she got cited for hitting me and not providing financial liability. so my medical is a bit complicated. got the run around with the ER clinic(?) with giving them my updated insurance (didnt have my cards on me and its been well over 72 hrs).

i did get one of the medical situations figured out and updated but they told me they bill two different ways??? super complicated. my dads trying to get in contact with WHERE the ambulance charge is and how we get that total.

buuut... we are probably gonna take her to court. at least to get some kind of compensation. she tried to pay me off with just a bike. kinda disgusting tbh. 29 yr old should know how to look left.

i wont air my grievances. sorry augh. its just- complicated???? but its good. im not more injured and like my ribs are still sore. sleeping upright sucksssss. but im just glad to be okay.

if theres any good thing to be said ive had a lot of time to do things i love. ive been reading a bunch and playing my ps4. getting good sleep. my mental health has genuinely been... good other than that headache. its so peaceful and simple to just exist and do things that i love. i wish i could do this more often. i haven't had time like this since i graduated high school. i literally jumped into this job august of 2021 and never really... took a break like this... i really needed this. like... REALLY needed this break. injury or not this is really such... a nice break...

No for real the Should've Adapted Yakuza 2 take is the only one that doesn't make even a little sense to me. I will say it. I feel like a lot of people still think it's a movie (even though I literally wrote it was a TV series...) and so they're mad they're "redoing the first movie instead of making a sequel" when that's not even what's happening.

Plus the show has no relation to the (at this point almost twenty-year-old) movie; completely different companies, completely different people working on it, completely different approach (RGGS actually having a say vs. Miike and co more or less just doing whatever).

Technically, it's even a different game--like, on top of it being Yakuza Kiwami rather than Yakuza, the series itself has changed drastically from what it was when the movie came out. I think the reason a number of people are disappointed by the movie is exactly that. Like IMO the movie is more or less (at least tonally) representative of what the appeal of the series was at the time, which is all it was trying to do. But most fans today haven't even played PS2 Y1 and Y2, let alone only played PS2 Y1 and Y2, so it can leave something to be desired.

With casting, my dream of a Tomoya Nagase Kiryu 'cause he's partly based on him was shattered so I'm biased lol, but I appreciate that Takeuchi's been bulking up for the role and changing his public image, and I'm excited to check out some of his previous work. I love Kaku already from Super Salaryman and other roles (DW AT ALL BTW GUESS WHO STILL HASN'T WATCHED EP 2 OF FIRST PENGUIN KLJSJKLFG) but I have yet to see him in a serious role so that'll be fun :)

But like. While I tried to pick images that were close to our images of Kiryu and Nishiki, these are promotional shots, not styled and costumed in-character. I think people are also kind of glossing over the timeskip. Like yeah, Takeuchi's only 30, but pre-timeskip Kiryu is 27 and he has to believably play him too. That's especially notable when the story of Y1 could easily be told in like 5 or 6 hours, so perhaps what we're doing for the other 2-3 hours is spending more time pre-timeskip. I'm kind of speculating even some 0 scenes may make it in, because they were described as being dressed in "flashy suits and patterned shirts" at the shoot.

Overall, I do personally regret starting the series with K1 and it's my least favorite starting point (out of 0, Y1/K1, 7, and Judgment), but at the same time it's the only story that can be properly told within one eight-hour season. So. Y'know. It makes the most sense. I'm of course hoping it turns out enjoyable regardless because I'm obligated to watch it either way for the wiki lmao (and hey, maybe if it does well enough to get renewed, my faves will get a turn). I do think it's got the most potential of any of the adaptations so far, at least, aside from the other upcoming Judgment one.

Anyways uhhhhhh I hope we see Kiwamine in the background of a shot just vibing

no like thats what i mean: it makes total sense as to why they'd start from Y1 it just makes the most sense for a brand new adaption independent of the past iterations 😩 in any case im interested to see what everyone brings to the table and how they handle adapting Y1 now with all of the games and content that have come out since the initial movie/stageplay releases ♪(´▽｀)

oooooh tbh im not exactly stricly fixated on smth rn which is funny buuut i was talking about xenoblade a bit ago so xenoblade 3

xenoblade in general has some really sick fight choreography, but one of my favorite scenes in general has to be like. EVERYTHING that happens after the prison break with M and right before they get captured again.

like, the part where the camera shows them fighting all in one shot with no cuts, taion going “i lied” and how fast M can switch between controlling them all to make it super chaotic. this whole part is just augh so anime and so awesome

man its so hard to choose. each one of the ouroboros are my funny little guys. im gonna talk about noah bc i feel like i can say something interesting

so at first i really didnt think much of noah. like hes so main character that i found him sort of boring. not like bad just kinda underwhelming compared to the other characters. but as the story unfolded i really understood what they were going for with making N a foil to him.

noah is like so, so kind. but hes also very thoughtful about it, he considers everything that’s happening and then chooses to be kind almost every time.

and he does this because he cares so much about the people around him, he doesn’t want to see anyone at all die. if the consuls just stopped fighting them and doing crazy horrible shit he would let it go because he doesnt want to kill them either. (for the most part, he does have limits)

which is why in another life he turns into N, unable to bear seeing M die. and the crazy thing is i think you see glimpses of that throughout the story. noah chooses to be kind because he grew up closer to death than most, because when people die he sees it as them leaving him (something he reveals at the start of chapter 6). which if you know N you understand how that connects.

and i feel like theres something about noah’s character that is a little more than normal anime determination. in a few ways he actually ruthless yknow? noah is one of the smartest people in the party, and he chooses when he is kind and when he is not carefully. his morals means he believes its worth it to be kind and give others the benefit of the doubt, but he isn’t naive and uses that sort of leader main character charm he has to push them forward towards their goals

noah knows that people listen to him when he speaks, that when he gives his speeches to characters blocking the way he can make them understand the “we’re doing this with you or without you, help us or dont stand in our way” threat all while just expressing how he feels

idk how else to really describe it but i think noah is, not necessarily manipulative but the game goes out of its way to show he has the capacity to be (N being the most obvious example). he only isnt because he has so many more people standing by him, much more faith in him from relying on them.

but thats really just my take on him

anyway i chose to cut myself some slack today so i ate some pasta pesto, a little bowl of chips and 3 chocolate cookies with tea. overall this was a lot of calories :( buuut the first week always does this with me.

i get super motivated and eat about 300 calories per day, then a few days later i get super bad cravings and cave in…

BUT i think i just got tempted bc my mom got all my fav groceries today and i have a feeling she is really watching what i eat bc i have been eating so little. (i rlly hope she didnt notice but shes the most empathic woman ever its scary)

today i ate 300 more calories than i wanted to and that sucks, but tomorrow is a new day so im trying to stay motivated and positive. discipline and self control is something i really struggle with when it comes to food. i either eat nothing or way too much. 200 cals a day or 800 cals a day. i hate it.

i really want to find a good balanced diet, but i feel like i can only do that AFTER i get my goal weight. if im skinny i want to eat healthy and get a little treat once in a while. but right now i feel like i don’t deserve that treat and especially that my body cannot handle “a treat” yet.

does that make sense idk
