The Court: Origins
Guess who wrote that instead of searching for an appart ? .-.
But kinda like it and I mean there's Hawkgirl so it can't be that bad (yes it's from the animated JL. I mean it's the best girl from that carton. Best. Girl.)
-
Ladybug and Chat Noir meet heros : Wonder Woman is the First (working in Paris ?) and she introduces them to the rest. Because they need help and decent backing. (shinanigans and awkwardiness are totally here, they're fans ok?) But it's a firm 'no' to any direct intervention from foreign heroes who doesn't manage his emotions (akumatized Superman... brr). But they need help. They send Martian Manhunter and Hawkgirl. (Wonder Woman would have come, with her own ties with the Miraculous and all, but she's already the ambassador of her people so can't.) Immediately, there are results. Crazy the efficacity of training right? (Master Fu gets an earful along the way, heroes don't like this Gardian way of his)
Ladybug is still his apprentice but she has back-up so she doesn't drown and she trains Chat Noir in secret from Fu. Because y'know, they're p a r t n e r s! (Hawkgirl called bullshit on the inequality between the two and Martian Manhunter said it was a good idea so). Ladybug and Chat Noir totally plan to rope Nino in it too. The Turtle always have more Gardian-vibe than the rest because Protection and Nino is Nino so he's trustworthy. (He could be Grand Gardian in the future but Ladybug is a martyr if anything else and she doesn't want to overburden him. She works on that. (And Chat Noir works on the "self-sacrificing" bit of his personality. Hawkgirl called bullshit on that too)).
They don't know each other's identity but when Chat Noir flirts and Ladybug complains they know it's more for fun than anything else. Sure, they have a tiny tiny crush on each other but they're heroes (teenage heroes) after all, they need the comic relief please.
Marinette and Adrian are more busy than ever and it's hard sometimes but they're not drowning and it's better than what could have been without the Justice League so they manage. Sure, Marinette doesn't design as much as before and Adrian runs on three hours of sleep tops but they manage! Sure they're in high school now but they're in seconde and it can be a lot of work but it's also the year the most laid back of high school so. They can do it.
With help, comes suspects. Did you think Martian Manhunter and Hawkgirl were here only as supports? They're might be not as detective-oriented as Batman but they have their own way to have answers. They're still heroes, even if they're not detectives. Chat Noir isn't happy when his father made it on the List and is a serious suspect. And he's not happy when Ladybug supports this theory with her own evidence either. And sure his suspects are believable too but he overlooks Gabriel completely and Ladybug is not impressed with him (Lila comes back at the same time and Marinette is not impressed with Adrien either.) Maybe their argument and all the yelling gave away their identities a little too quickly. Oups.
They ignore each other for two good weeks, in class like in battle, before Hawkgirl forces them to talk. (Communication is important kids). It's not a fun conversation. They somewhat forgive each other even if it's strain in the first weeks. But they work on it (because frienships too need work) and they come to it at least! And sure Hawkmoth landed some good hits during that time but they always win, good relationship or not. They're professionnals guys.
And maybe they become so close they're often taken for a couple. Except she gives him advices about Kagami and he's pushing her in Luka's arms. They're often saying they're more like siblings if ask. At some point Adrien is all but officially adopted by the Dupain-Cheng. (The Lahiffe tried but hey, a whole bakery. They can't hold a candle to that.) It was a happy few months despite the stress and the akumas and amoks. Even with Lila. (because the class isn't full of idiots, yes they find Lila great and yes her war with Marinette and Adrien is weird but they're friends either way. They just... don't go out at the same time with them. They take turns. They think of something to make it work. Because being friends with a whole class is cute but not realistic.)
And then there is a conversation who strucks odd to Adrien. Not even a conversation, just an off-hand comment. Barely a "make sure Duusu obey correctly next time". Just a few seconds. Adrien wouldn't have think of anything if he didn't exactly knew who was Duusu. Oups x2. He took it pretty bad. Poor Chat.
Their plan is simple - in theory (well, more or less, it's still Ladybug we speak of). A sort of "breaking & entering" with thief!Marinette and complice!Adrian. Martian Manhunter in invisibility mode scoots the hallways before the two and Hawkgirl is at the end of the formation, ready for all he can throw at them. Of course it comes crashing down. La faute à pas de chance like we say in French - they come during the Night of Hawkmoth (the one random night in the week where Hawkmoth akumatises someone from a nightmare - look, he needs to sleep to). So when Adrian lets Ladyfox enter, the illusions doesn't fool the high-security systems and he prepares. Time for Scarlet Moth to shine!
He doesn't go to the confrontation this coward - he knows they will kick his ass with their training and help of the Justice League. Nah, he creates several really destructive akumas. Y'know. Criminals and the such he carefully avoided before. Trumps cards! Mayura joins not long after. It's a massacre. They need help. Big help. Big like all the box. (And Not the Justice League because maybe Scarlet Moth isn't at his limit and they can't risk it.)
So they recruit. Rena Rouge, Carapace, Hornet (Queen Bee 2.0), Ryuko, Viperion, Bunnyx, and sometimes random people whom the kwamis sense they have a greater affinity than the other persons in their class. It's still bad. They die - a lot. All of them, except Bunnyx. The number of times she jumped from her Burrow to protect a fellow hero is... frightening. Sometimes she made them exchange their miraculous, to better suit their affinities and needs. It lasts three days.
They win! Somewhat. They're... not broken, almost, mourning their innocence and deeply hurt. But they're alive and Paris is standing and Hawkmoth and Mayura are not - yet - winners so. They take what they can.
Ladybug and Chat Noir don't take back the Miraculous from those who want to fight with them. Some people can't be heroes, can't have the mental for it. Others are desesperate to stop this. And others still are born for it - like them. Hawkgirl and Martian Manhunter agreed to train them - they're not in their best mindset either (they didn't see so much destruction since their last world-ending event, it's not an everyday occurrence even for them) but they're adults, professionals. The kids need them so they help, of course. The Court is born, with new heroes and new names. Too many has been compromised during the battle to keep their old, and... they are not the same as before either. Dame Chance (Ladybug - Marinette), Cat Sìth (Cat - Adrian), Alya (Tiger - Tigris), Nino (Turtle - Shield), Chloé (Bee - Hornet), Kagami (Dragon - Kinryu), Luka (Snake - Ouroboros), Alix (Bunny - Bunnyx), Nathaniel (Fox - Renart), Allegra (Rooster - Mélodie), Bridgette (Ox - Niú), Claude (Horse - Kid Mime) and Alan (Dog - Gavroche).
From here, it's hell. Hawkmoth and Mayura send akumas and sentimonsters at a frenetic pace, sometimes switching with a Scarlet Moth Situation (not too otfen because it costs a great deal of energy but at least one on three days). Life in Paris is impossible, the city is lock down, the civilians need to stay home for their security and the heroes all but stop to live. They move in the QG Hawkgirl and Martian Manhunter set up at the beginning and scheme. Identities don't matter (and that's an interesting conversation), sleeping, eating, all of that is pushed aside. They can't deal with distractions. That's also a interesting conversation. (Look, some of them don't lose their priorities. Sleep and food are not distractions. But go say that to Marinette, hah.) But nevertheless, their lifes are put on hold for their hunt (and training. the new heroes need it.) No need to say, they're on a fine line from madness.
It lasts two weeks (an eternity) before they attack. The battle is horrible - like all battles - and the Court is spread across all Paris to protect it from the akumas and sentimonsters. Against Hawkmoth and Mayura, it's only Dame Chance, Cat Sìth, Ouroboros, Kinryu and Martian Manhunter.
They win. Finally. And they sleep the month after that, because trauma (very much so), adrenaline and - just - their bodies shut down. Especially Marinette and Adrian.
-
Now, the Box is used as almost full capacity. Nino has the Turtle. So Fu is like 'cool, Marinette is ready!' Hence Marinette is Grand Guardian at 16 (joy. so much.) and as first decision names Adrian and Nino Guardians with her. Fu isn't too please. She doesn't give a flying fuck.
After Hawkmoth Alya, Nathaniel, Bridgette and Claude gave back their miraculous (they were heroes when needed but it isn't a life they want).
The next two years are a lot of juggling between training, learning, apprenticeship and heroing but nowhere near the intensity of their first two years.
Because the Court is still active. Even without Hawkmoth and Mayura (by the way Nooroo and Duusu are absolutely being pampered in the box), they remained active, help the police and all. Especially with the new risk of attacks from terrorists (they couldn't prevent the bombs, only help afterwards and that was... hard. Definitely more so than Hawkmoth because the Cure can't revive these victims. There wasn't any Miraculous involved - only plain, old, ugly humanity).
Btw the Justice League is on speed dial in case they need help for a magical/miraculous/world-ending event and because they're allies now but they're not part of it.
So yes they're heroes but they're teenagers too. Marinette and Luka date one year before they break up and remain friends (and maybe she has a little something with Kagami at one point. maybe), Adrien discovers preferring guys, Nino and Alya are still as in love as ever. They grow up, they graduate high school. Some stay in Paris, others go discover the world.
Alya made a name for herself with the Ladyblog and has a brilliant carrier ahead of her, already thinking of doing something similar to Lois Lane : war reporter, then specialising herself in heroics. She wants to be the best and knows damn well what she needs to do for that (Lila be damned). Chloé flourishes in New York, attempting business and politics degrees (nobody else see Chloe as Mayor of Gotham? I think it would suit her - a broken city needing her help and power. pretty much her). Luka makes soundtracks for movies and makes a name for himself ; in the same sector, Allegra joins the National Orchestra of France. Nino chooses a degree in the cinema, DJing in the weekend. Adrian works with Sabine and Tom, training to inherit, one day, the bakery - Gabriel crumbled with his father and he has no intention to ever build it back. Kagami trains for the Olympics. Alix goes for a degree in archeology - following her family and her miraculous. The comic series relating the aventures of the Court by Nathaniel and Mark is a huge success, assuring their own place in the world. Allan go to Japan for a degree in languages. Bridgette and Marinette goes to China to visit their family (they're totally cousins) and for their respective studies in communication and fashion.
Paris is heartbroken and very concerned when Dame Chance and Cat Sìth disapear but the Ladyblog remains active so they can explain that they're young, they want to learn to live in this world and they need to attends some Miraculous matters - but of course if Paris or the France or even the world need their help one day, they'd come back.
At 23, Marinette, Adrian, Nino and Alix take a gap year and go to Tibet. Because they're not civilians despite their somewhat inactivity and their Court is cool but they very much need to think about the future, the after them. So they need to rebuild the Order.
Oh. The League/The Untitled/a great bad. Coucou. (book 2?)

Flowers
(Damian x Reader) Soulmate AU
Rating: T
Ages: Damian and you are 16, everyone’s ages follow after.
Summary: Soulmate AU where the wounds on your soulmate turns into a flower tattoo on your skin, if it heals with no scars the tattoo goes away, if it heals with a scar then the tattoo stays. You are just an ordinary girl, with an ordinary life, so one might think it only makes sense that your soulmate is just as ordinary as you. But that isn’t the case. Especially not when your body is constantly littered with flowers. Some of them fade over time, some stay, but one thing is for certain – your soulmate seems to get hurt. A lot.
Notes: Hey there you guys. Recently I’ve been caught up in a Batman fever, and I can’t do anything about it. I ended up creating a challenge for my friend @mrevaunit42 which was an “Character x Reader” Soulmate AU. Seriously, it was all in the name of fun.
And then I got caught up in it, perhaps a little too much – and created this. I’ve never written a soulmate au before, though I really wanted to. (Now I have! Yay~) So please forgive my writing since I’m a little rusty, and I hope you enjoy.
Stay safe everyone.
Disclaimer: I do not own DC. If I did, I wouldn’t make it as confusing as it is now.
I woke up to a burning sensation on my lower ribs in the middle of night. Hissing in pain I slowly pushed my feet out of the warm covers and turned on the lamp beside my bed. Pulling up my shirt I assessed the damage.
It was purple lilacs this time, stretched across the middle of my torso going horizontally to my side. I winced as the tattoo completed itself and just as the heat came, a cold chill ran through it and down my spine. Somehow it soothed the burn.
God, another one? I frowned at the beautiful flower and sighed. It worried me that my soulmate was prone to getting hurt. Sometimes the injuries made sense, like when I found them on my knees, I could easily chalk it up to falling and scraping – but injuries like these were more difficult to decipher.
How does someone normal get hurt this way?
They don’t.
“Unless they’re a criminal.” One of my friends stated dryly days ago.
“Or a hero!” Another said quickly.
Needless to say, I wasn’t in a rush to find out. Whoever this person was, I knew from the start that they were trouble.
The next time I woke, it was to the early morning rays that escaped my curtains and played a fiery dance on my eye lids. I groaned and pulled the covers up wishing I could sleep in for a couple more minutes, but I knew I couldn’t.
A few weeks ago my school, Gotham Academy, announced that they were holding their annual science fair at a convention centre as opposed to the regular school gymnasium, because surprisingly enough, Wayne Enterprise offered to fund the event.
It was no secret that Gotham’s economy was hitting below the desired margin. Many people don’t have jobs which resulted in an influx of crime in the past years. And so Wayne Enterprise collaborated with Gotham’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to raise awareness and encourage young minds to strive for a better, innovative future. They shouldered the expenses needed and created an international affair, to top it off; Wayne Ent. also offered scholarships to future college goers and internships in all their branches.
Which was why I couldn’t sleep in today. I had project to work on. In line with our team of sponsors, I decided to invent a weapon that could help the GPD when catching criminals. A gun that projects thin plastic case marbles filled with a chemical concoction that erupts into a quick hardening foam upon impact. The foam itself is not toxic, but it works with catching and detaining. It turns as hard as stone but there was another type of compound that I was in the process of creating to counter act it as a measure of safety.
I got up and started my day.
“Good morning sweetheart.” My mom greeted as I entered the kitchen. She smiled warmly at me as she placed a plate of eggs and bacon on the table.
I couldn’t help but return the gesture, walking up to her and placing a kiss on her cheek. “Morning Mom, are you working tonight?”
“I have to, but don’t worry I’ll be leaving something in the fridge for dinner.”
I thanked her and took my plate into the living room. Turning on the T.V., I easily found the news channel and watched the latest reports on Gotham’s activities.
Mom sometimes had to work on weekends just to make ends meet, which was one reason why I was so hard to get that scholarship and hopefully the internship as well. The other reason was…
A family picture caught my eye in the middle of the news and I bit back a sigh. My dad, my mom, and me. We all were smiling at the camera.
Dad was part of the Police force and died during a heist. Reports stated he was running after the criminals and got shot before he could capture them. That was another reason I chose this as my project. Dad always wanted to fight for justice, hopefully this invention could help.
I finished up my breakfast and helped my mom with chores before I slipped into science mode and continued tinkering with the project. The projectiles were complete and I was able to make 3 in total, which I stored in a small box encased with extra padding.
It was around evening after my mom left that I got another burn. I dropped the screwdriver I was holding and bit my lip. Gasping for breath I pulled my sleeve and watched another flower blossom on my forearm.
The pain was gone in an instant and the cold tickled the skin that was branded. I sighed and slowly straightened my poster. This person, after all these injuries, they better not die before I meet them. I grumbled to myself when I realised I was short on supplies. Poor planning on my part.
I grabbed my bag and locked the front door before I headed out to the nearest hardware store, careful to keep my marks hidden from view. I’ve lived in Gotham my whole life, and I knew that standing out, even in the smallest way, would lead into trouble.
The walk to the store was short and uneventful, thankfully. There were only a few customers. I manoeuvred my way between the isles and picked up what I needed. After paying at the counter I hauled my goods and ducked back into the streets. I almost wished I didn’t stop when I heard that woman cry out for help. I was unarmed, unprepared, and every cell in my body screamed at me to walk – no – run away from the scene that was unfolding before my eyes.
But she was helpless. Clad in a trench coat and rain boots, she didn’t look like much but her bag was definitely designer. The thieves in question had a knife pointed at her face. There were 6 of them. All were towering and bulky next to her petite frame. Their menacing stares struck a cold shiver in me and my hand involuntarily clutched the projectiles I was working on in my pocket. I had a feeling it would be safer with me than it would be at home, however this was not how I imagined I’d first be using them.
The woman screamed again and I clenched my palm.
I sucked in some air and got ready to shout at the perpetrators – until I felt the wind rush past my ear.
In a flash someone had swooped into the scene and kicked the man holding the knife to the ground. The sound of blades being drawn stole my attention. It was Robin. He took a stance between the woman and the men.
“Run. Now.” He told the lady.
She whimpered and scrambled up to her feet dashing towards me, towards the entrance of the alley. She zipped past and didn’t stop running till she turned the corner. I should be running too. But my eyes were fixed on the fight that was about to happen.
Robin seemed no older than me. In reality there was no way he could win against 6 huge men. But then again, this was Robin. No normal teenager.
“6 against 1.” He mused, the grip on his katana tightened. “That hardly seems fair.”
The one who held the knife, possibly the leader of the gang, growled thickly. “Get‘im boys.”
They all rushed towards him at the same time, hands in the air and weapons ready. Robin whipped his blade and easily knocked two knives down, the remaining used their strength and threw punches that looked like it would strike anyone straight to next week. The masked boy effortlessly dodged all their hits. Crouching, jumping, twisting, exactly when needed and not a second too late. His movements were precise; a quick jab below the rib striking the kidney with the handle of the sword, a sharp slam of his elbow to the chin, and to close the deal with a blunt blow force to the side of the neck. The goon fell like a tree that’s been cut down.
I gaped in awe.
The others rushed to avenge their fallen comrade, but Robin was quicker and used his blade to disable them. He kicked one of them into the brick wall, a sickening crunch echoed as the goons’ head smashed into it, then a howl of pain when Robin sliced his back. I cringed at the sight of the blood. It was a superficial wound, at least from my vantage point. The cut was deep enough to hurt and draw red, but not enough to kill.
The next lunged himself and grabbed Robin’s wrist, the boy growled and kicked him the face, forcing to free himself. He couldn’t see the other one running towards them from behind, the weapon aiming straight for Robin’s back.
“Robin!” I found my voice and screamed. “Behind you!”
He did a roundhouse kick and slammed the head of the one holding his wrist, then using the momentum back flipped and kicked the one who was behind.
I sighed in relief.
“What are you doing just standing there?!” He shouted at me as he readied himself again. “I said run!”
That got all the men’s attention. The ones that fell got back up and huffed angrily.
“Get the girl!” The leader shouted. “We can use her.” His leer sent bile rushing up my throat.
I squeaked as 3 of them started to chase me. Finally my legs listened and I dashed across the street onto the other pavement.
They were too fast though, their thundering footsteps grew closer towards me. My lungs burned as I tried to inhale some much needed oxygen, physical sports like running really weren’t my thing. I nearly tripped on an uneven tile as a scream rippled out of my throat. I braced myself for impact but it never came. Instead I felt a rush of wind across my face and a lightness below me. The ground was getting further and further away.
I realised I was being carried. Looking up, I was face to face with Red Robin.
“God thing I saw you when I did or you’d be dead meat.” He said dryly as we landed on a roof.
“Th-thank you.” I breathed, trying to gulp in as much needed air as I could. “Robin – he –“ But I didn’t know how to articulate. The adrenaline rush was messing with my head, and I could barely think straight.
Yet Red Robin nodded, understanding. He jumped off the roof and shot his grappling hook. I peered down and saw the fight started to move, from the alley to the side walk. The goons cornered Robin into a store front and were relentless as they threw punch after punch. The other 3 that were chasing me were already fighting Red just below the building that he deposited me on.
I watched in horror as the glass shattered everywhere around them. They weren’t just normal gangs I discerned, they knew how to fight. And unlike the birds and bat, they didn’t mind taking a life.
Clutching the projectiles again in my pocket, I brought them up with trembling hands.
“I hope this works.” I whispered to myself and pulled out my elastic hair tie.
Hooking one of the orbs onto the elastic, I aimed for the goons attacking Robin, and pulled as far as the band could go. Willing my hand to stop shaking, I said a silent prayer and released my hold.
Time seemed to go into slow motion as it flew across the air. I held my breath.
It hit the ground between two goons and burst into a big foamy cloud of vibrant cobalt, instantly seizing the men and solidified their prison as the concoction cooled.
Both fights stopped for a split second, as they watched the chemical reaction, which now looking back was a mistake on all parties.
I gasped and thanked whoever was listening.
The leader roared and pulled a pistol. I felt my throat tighten as the gun set a bullet free.
Robin and I cried out in pain as the bullet dug into him. Tears threatened to roll down my cheek as I clutched my burning shoulder.
A birdarang zipped towards the leader, catching his wrist and making him let go of the weapon. With a grunt, Robin kicked him hard across the chest stealing the perpetrators breath and with a quick turn, smashed his foot onto the mans jaw, cracking it before letting him fall with a loud thud.
The fight continued and Robin easily subdued his last opponent. Then he ran across the street to finish up with Red. Both of them moved in fluid motions like well trained dancers as they fought while protecting each others weak spots. They took down the last 3 goons and tied them up just as the police sirens blared within the distance.
I jumped up from my spot and turned to run but stopped when I saw the two Robins in my path.
“You.” The younger one started. “You were the one who shot the…”
I nodded wordlessly, still feeling the adrenaline coursing through my body. A nasty red splotch caught my attention and I believe they both noticed as I glanced at it. My own hand went up and clutched my shoulder unconsciously, a cold sensation rippled through where the bullet was.
“Oh my god.”

SFW alphabet. | seteth
-> Pairing: Seteth x GN!Reader
-> Warnings: None
-> Genre: Fluff, Headcanons
-> A/N: this was chosen by a poll on my discord server except i gave no context in the poll so this is for y’all :) also uh im sorry if i’m not active in the next week, i rlly just had the absolute worst nervous breakdown ive had in a long while LMAO so uh ya might stay away from the internet for a while
warning, long post.
A -> Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)
with seteth, affection STAYS private. it will never ever be displayed out in the open, especially not around the students. he prefers to keep personal relationships out of professional life
when he does show affection, though, it’s super slow and gentle. he always hugs you from behind and just sways side to side, pressing little kisses against your temple and cheek while you lean i to his embrace and close your eyes.
B -> Begin (How did the relationship begin?)
it didn’t really have a solid beginning. you just kind of wormed your way into seteth and flayn’s hearts unknowingly. when he asked to court you, you were super super hesitant because you didn’t want to replace his late wife. he assured you that she’d want him and flayn to be happy and that she’d 100% approve of you.
you still have your doubts, but seteth is always there to reassure you.
C -> Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How do they cuddle?)
cuddling is saved for nights or early mornings on a day off. seteth is always itching to get up and get things done, so it’s a little on the tougher side to get him to stay. eventually he caves and lays in.
you cuddle facing each other, your head tucked underneath his chin and his legs entangling yours. his hand that lays underneath you plays with the ends of your hair while the other rests gently on your thigh, which is hiked over his hip.
D -> Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How good are they at cooking and cleaning?)
seteth’s thoughts rarely every go astray, but when they do, he imagines what life would be like, just retiring from the monastery and living a nice life with you. he’d like to settle down eventually, but not any time soon
he’s super good at doing his part in chores and duties! of course he is, but he’s very very reliable and does things when asked. it’s nice
E -> Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)
he would sit you down and explain his reasonings and such. it hurts him, definitely, but he does well at hiding it. until you leave his office, that is.
F -> Fiancé(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quickly would they want to get married?)
not any time soon, as said earlier. seteth really will not stop his obligations towards the monastery and to fodlan. he wouldn’t have time nor would he want a very extravagant wedding, either. a simple ceremony would suffice.
G -> Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)
physically, seteth is the epitome of a soft, romantic man. his touches make you melt and he’s always trying to keep you comfortable and happy. if you’re content, hes content.
emotionally, not as much. seteth has trouble sympathizing with some things. he’s used to pushing his feelings aside for the sake of fulfilling a duty or doing something, so he struggles sometimes to understand why someone else can’t do the same. give him time, though, and he’ll get better at comforting
H -> Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)
seteth’s hugs are firm and warm. they’re always like a passionate embrace, as if it would be the last time he’d ever touch you
seteth really enjoys hugs and physical affection with you, but as i said earlier, it’s always behind closed doors. sometimes he calls you to his office just so you can sit in his lap while he holds you.
I -> I Love You (How fast do they say the L-word?)
NOT fast. seteth is kind of in denial that he even had feelings for you at first until flayn pointed it out, so it’s rather hard for him to wrap his head around the fact that he loves you.
he does say it first though, as you’re half asleep, making you wonder if you even heard it correctly. you did.
J -> Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?)
seteth doesn’t get jealous, really. there’s really nobody around to even like, make him jealous. he knows that a bunch of weird ass teenagers like sylvain aren’t going to actually come in between his and your relationship. honestly, most people in the monastery probably don’t even know that you’re both in a relationship.
if he is jealous, he stays relatively nonchalant about it, asking you to help him with a task somewhere else to take you away from the person
K -> Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)
seteth’s kisses are very loving and passionate. every single one of them are full of adoration, even the little pecks. they never fail to warm up your entire body as everything melts away around you
he loves to kiss your neck. not just for more intimate reasons, but because he absolutely adores your giggles as his beard tickles your skin
this only happens when your relationship has been going on for a while, but seteth really enjoys it when you kiss his ears. they’re super sensitive and they always tinge as red as his cheeks when you kiss them.
L -> Little Ones (How are they around children?)
seteth is super good around his own child, of course, but he doesn’t so so hot around other children. theyre often too rambunctious for his liking, but he’ll tolerate them enough to entertain them sometimes.
M -> Mornings (How are mornings spent with them?)
three words. soft, soft, and soft
you usually either wake up in the same position that you fell asleep in, or you’re spooning. seteth’s always the big spoon, no acceptions. if you’re spooning, he kisses your shoulders and the back of your head until you wake up enough to turn over and give him an actual kiss.
N -> Nights (How are nights spent with them?)
also soft, but a little less.
seteth is always so busy during the day that when he lays in bed, he falls asleep almost instantaneously. if you want to stay up and talk or cuddle, he’ll try his hardest, but please don’t be upset with him if he accidentally dozes off. he’s a hard worker
O -> Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything at once or wait to reveal things slowly?)
this depends on who you are. if you’re the professor, you more than likely already know everything by the time you get in a relationship with him
if you’re not, then he trusts you enough to catch you up on most things in the early weeks of your relationship. sometimes there’s a little tidbit that he may have forgotten to mention in the talk that comes up later on, but that’s really it
P -> Patience (How easily angered are they?)
seteth has the patience of a saint
hehe
but no, literally. very rarely does he get irritated or impatient with you. you know how he is and know how he likes things to happen or be done, so you do them. kind of like in the Domestic headcanon, he does his part so you try your hardest to do yours. he doesn’t ever have a reason to be impatient with you and is actually rather understanding now that he knows how you function as well
Q -> Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)
seteth remembers everything. literally everything. you’d think in his 1000+ years of life, he’d be an old ass man with shit memory, but no. to seteth, you and flayn are his number one priority and he’d never forget a thing about yall.
R -> Remember (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?)
seteth’s favorite memory is when he accidentally walked in on you hanging out flayn. you two weren’t doing much other than reading and talking about your books, but it warmed his heart to see his two favorite people bonding
S -> Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)
insanely protective, but like in things that matter. if you’re doing something that could get you hurt, he’s in defense mode trying to get you to safety. if you’re in battle, he’s sure to always know where you are just in case.
he’s not one to appreciate being protected- he feels like he failed to protect his people in the past, so to be the protected instead of the protector makes him a little iffy- but he’ll always admit that he needed the protection and will always show his gratitude
count how many times i said protect in that second paragraph wow
T -> Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, etc?)
seteth is romantic. he’s not much for physical gifts, but the memories and sentiment and feelings are so real and present that you really don’t need material things to know that he loves you
of course he does give you gifts, like a pretty bouquet of flowers that he saw in the greenhouse, or a necklace or something from the market that reminded him of you
U -> Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)
seteth tends to forget to slow down and take a break every once in a while. he’s constantly finding tasks to do around the monastery and doing things to help rhea that he often neglects his own well being. you always remind him and try your best to help him out, but he never really breaks that habit
V -> Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks? Do your looks bother them?)
seteth is rather concerned about how he’s seen in the public eye. how could he not? he’s a very prim and proper man. this, however, doesnt extend to you as much.
he doesn’t expect you to dress up to the nines every day just to be seen around him or whatever. he may be like “darling, are you sure you want to be walking around the monastery in your pajamas?” but the minute you’re like “hell yeah” he lets you be.
W -> Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)
this is a tough one, because i feel like seteth would do just fine on his own and would still feel relatively whole. but there would always be like this tiny little sliver of him that constantly misses you when you’re not around
X -> Xtra (A random headcanon for them.)
seteth has a secret, super playful side that only comes out when you’re alone in your shared bedroom. he likes to play wrestle you and mess around just to hear your laugh and see you smile.
Y -> Yuck (What are some things they wouldn’t like, in general or in a partner?)
in a partner, seteth wouldn’t really like someone who’s obnoxiously loud and blatantly disrespectful. it’s one of his biggest pet peeves and he wouldn’t date someone like that.
this doesn’t pertain to people who like, don’t realize their volume or is disrespectful to someone who deserves the disrespect, though. he doesn’t like just overly rude and jnconfiderate people who are like that for no reason
Z -> Zzz (What’s a sleep habit of theirs? Does it change around a partner?)
seteth is the lightest sleeper in the history of the world. he’s always on guard for something to happen. i dont blame him, but sometimes even the littlest bumps in the night wake him up almost completely. don’t ever try to sneak out of bed because chances are, he woke up from you just opening your eyes.
if anything, this habit becomes even more prominent when you start sharing a bed with him. he’s just afraid of losing you is all 😃

Stuck With You
Pairing: Zak Bagans x Reader
Summary: Stuck in quarantine with Zak is slowly driving you both insane, but a minor argument brings things back into perspective. (Inspired heavily by “Stuck with U” By Ariana Grande & Justin Bieber.)
Warnings: None (basically fluff central with minor hints of angst.)
Lately you and Zak had been bumping heads, and honestly you couldn’t pin point why. Problems were a rare occurrence in your relationship, and in the case you were to argue it would be because you were upset at how careless he could be when taunting spirits or whatever it might have been. You only argued because sometimes he wouldn’t even tell you about it, so you’d find out when you watched the episode air, which was the frustrating part.
However, that wasn’t the case this time, because he had to postpone any planned investigation for the time being since the coronavirus forced states to lockdown, urge citizens to stay home, and social distance. Truly, the first few weeks weren’t all that bad. You both had missed spending time together, so you both enjoyed spending time together. Learning new meals to cook, having him assist any baking you wanted to try, cuddling up and watching movies and TV shows, or playing with Gracie out in the backyard. This was the soft domestic side you missed Zak showing, and it was comforting for you both.
Of course Zak was often FaceTiming Aaron, Billy, and Jay as they did their best to work from home either on editing old footage or planning for future renovations for Zak’s Haunted Museum. Honestly, sometimes they were simply just joking around with each other as they talked about everything and nothing all at once.
“Babe, you forgot to refill Gracie’s bowl.” You sighed as you refilled both Gracie’s water bowl and food bowl while you were at it. He was recently deep into who knew what, typing away on his laptop, calling the crew, and obliviously to you some producers too. “I’m sorry y/n, I’m a bit busy.” Zak sighed from the living room, where he sat with his laptop being used to arrange certain things, as well as his cellphone pressed to his ear thanks to his shoulder.
You had noticed he stopped putting calls on speaker, and spoke softer when you were around, which grew to annoy you. Of course you trusted him, the annoying part was that he clearly didn’t trust you. A soft sigh left your lips as you rolled your eyes and entered the kitchen, making sure all the dirty dishes were around, if not in the sink, before starting to wash the dishes. How there was such a pile of dirty dishes in a household of two was absolutely beyond you. If you didn’t know any better, you’d even suggest a spirit had been helping make the mess.
The sound of your phone ringing drew you from your thoughts, sighing as you dried one hand quickly to pick up the phone. Using your shoulder to keep the phone in place as you returned to washing the dishes. “Hello?” You responded, setting a now clean plate on the dish rack. “Hello y/n, I hope I didn’t call at a bad time.” Nancy’s voice came through, smiling at the sound of Zak’s mother’s voice.
“No! Not at all Nancy, just washing a few dishes. How are you doing?” You responded softly as your hands became a soapy mess. “I’m doing just fine honey, thank you. I hope being locked up hasn’t caused Gracie a problem,” Nancy responded with a soft laugh. “No, not at all! We play with her in the backyard often, she still enjoys the outdoors at least.” You laughed, relaxing slightly at the news that she was indeed healthy and well.
Meanwhile, Zak had been typing away on his laptop to put together a rough draft for their investigation. “No, that won’t be necessary. We’ll handle all the filming. The security cameras will help us make sure we get absolutely everything, so we won’t need anyone else but us four.” Zak finalized with their producer. He, Aaron, Jay, and Billy had agreed to quarantine themselves within his haunted museum for two weeks. It took them some convincing before Zak was able to get everyone on board with the investigation. Zak had grown restless, and he couldn’t just stay home.
Of course the investigator loved being home with y/n and Gracie, it was relaxing and peaceful, definitely something he had needed. However, he was now ready to get back into work mode, which was challenging considering their ‘stay at home’ order had just been made longer. He was yet to tell y/n, not that he meant to hide it from her, but they had enough with their petty arguments lately. Surely, this would only be the cherry on top.
“So what can I do for you, Nancy?” You asked with a small smile as you were drying your hands, having finished washing the dishes during your small talk. “Well, I was hoping to get in touch with Zak? He hasn’t been answering my calls and I had some questions for the new investigation.” Nancy responded, you grew confused as you let Gracie outside, following her into the backyard. “I’m sorry, he’s been rather busy on the phone lately. He’s on the phone as we speak.” You explained, a small frown on your face as you sat down on the grass. “New investigation?” You questioned.
“Ah, I figured. I just wanted to check in and make sure things were sorted for their new quarantine location. I can’t believe they are going to stay in the museum for the next two weeks.” Nancy sighed, oblivious to the fact that her son hadn’t told you yet. “But anyway, please have him call me as soon as he can? It was nice talking to you, y/n.” Nancy bedded her goodbye. “Of course Nancy, take care.” You responded, hanging up shortly after.
Zak was going to stay at the museum? You weren’t sure what bothered you the most. The fact that Zak hadn’t even told you yet, the fact that none of the boys had told you either, or how stupid that idea even was. You knew the paranormal was Zak’s life, and you respected that, but you worried for him endlessly. He tended to be a little too ambitious when taunting, or exploring dangerous grounds with demonic or poltergeist activity. “Hey, my favorite girls are hanging out without me?” You heard Zak approach you, as you were torn from your thoughts while watching Gracie bark and chase after a squirrel.
“Hard to tell,” you muttered as you crossed your arms over your chest. Zak sighed as he took a seat beside you, the outdoor scene of the backyard would have been peaceful and relaxing, had it not been for the tension between the pair. “Babe, we can’t go on this way.” Zak frowned as he glanced your way, though you hadn’t met his gaze. “I agree. You know, I was wondering what I did to make you avoid me so much. When were you going to tell me?” You responded, your voice a bit hoarse as you fought back a few tears.
Zak wasn’t sure how you’d found out, but he figured it hadn’t mattered much. A sigh leaving his lips as he watched you with a soft gaze, “I’m sorry y/n. Honestly I wasn’t sure the others would even agree, and working with production to approve has been a nightmare. I didn’t want to spark another argument in case it wasn’t even approved.” Zak explained, knowing he should have told her sooner. Zak knew you’d be worried and upset, angry even, but he wasn’t expecting your response at all.
“I don’t get it.. Do you not want to be around me anymore? Am I not making you happy? I just don’t.. understand..” You frowned as your eyes began to water, blurring your vision slightly. “What? No! Where did you even get that from?” Zak frowned as he gently reached for your hands, taking them into his. This wasn’t at all the response he had imagined, and some how, it hurt ten times worse. Seeing you cry was something he never wanted to see.
“Why else would you want to lock yourself in your museum? For two weeks? Surrounded by the most deadliest and cursed objects on Earth, Zak why are you doing this?!” You asked, the hurt in your voice audible as some tears slid down your cheeks, doing your best to blink away any others. “Y/n, sweetheart…” Zak sighed as he gently let your hands go, to instead cup your face gently, his thumbs wiping your tears away. “I’m so sorry, that’s not at all why we decided to do this. I figured it would give us something to do and considering the fights we’ve been having, it would give you some space. I know I haven’t been the best boyfriend lately,” Zak explained with a frown on his face as he gazed into your eyes. “But I love you, y/n. I love being around you, even when you run that smart pretty mouth of yours.” Zak reassured with a small smile, before pressing a soft yet sweet kiss to your lips.
The tension slowly began to ease away, as you relaxed under his touch, kissing back. The contact being something you had missed the last few days after petty disputes. “I love you too Zak. I’m sorry I’ve been so petty lately.” You sighed softly before pouting, “What on Earth am I supposed to do without you the next two weeks?” You selfishly asked, though of course you were only teasing.
“Don’t worry babe, you’re stuck with me the rest of this quarantine after that. Whether you want to be or not,” He joked towards the end, a soft laugh leaving your lips as he wrapped his arms around you. He brought you into his chest as you now sat on his lap, your head resting on his shoulder.
“I’m stuck with you, Bagans. Go ahead and drive me insane, its just you and me.” You responded with a small smile, an arm around his neck as you leaned upward a bit and pressing a soft kiss to his lips, Gracie soon running onto your lap as you both shared a laugh.
There’s no where else you’d rather be.

WFH is great until your mom yells from behind “uth chai bana de”
If you’ve ever been stuck in torrential rain waiting for a delayed train after a long day at office, the chances are pretty decent that you’ve thought about working remotely at least once or twice.
There was a time when Work from home was a fantasy for everyone until we all got attacked by pandemic. Wherein we actually want the hectic schedule rather than working remotely. WFH is in favor for someone as an introvert like me and a disaster for an extrovert who loves roaming around in the office greeting everyone with a smile and gossiping with every second person in the office. Without having an office where you need to share pleasantries with your coworkers, boss, and clients, you need to find alternative methods of socializing with people on your own time.
Challenges:
Sounds appealing right? No more setting the alarm for 6 am. No more sitting in your cubicle all day, your only escape a measly hour for lunch. You can set your own hours and work when you feel it. Freedom is yours!
Expect it doesn’t work that way.
Juggling work, household chores, and parenting responsibilities along with fear of infection and job loss can put a dent in performance, motivation and productivity. On the other side of the coin, when you work from home, you no longer have a clear geographic division between workspace and your personal life. Ideally, your home is a place of relaxation, safety, and security. It’s a place where you subconsciously slip into a calm, easygoing state of mind , putting the stresses of the workday behind you and have a beautiful evening with your family.
Feeling of disconnection and social isolation:
Even in normal situations, managing remote employees is more challenging than managing regular office workers because Emotional health is a priority now because living and working in confined conditions for a long time takes a mental toll. Moreover, people who have so far been accustomed to working in an office setting may find remote work very lonely. Only now have team members and managers begun to realize how much time and effort it takes to communicate properly across screens. They cannot reach out to each other as easily as they would in a physical office, and this makes people feel disconnected from the company. Direct reports may feel that their managers are out of touch with their reality and cannot help them solve their problems.
Screen Fatigue: You’re probably hearing people complain about ‘Zoom fatigue’ or ‘meeting fatigue’. Managing remote employees via video conferencing has given rise to a new challenge – that of screen fatigue due to back-to-back meetings. People are turning away from their screens in exhaustion, citing headaches and eye strain. It is more tiring to look at a screen for a prolonged time than it is to have face-to-face conversations. It is more tiring to look at a screen for a prolonged time than it is to have face-to-face conversations. In addition to the laptops, team members are also looking at conventional screens like phones, tablets, or television. It fatigues the eyes, causes loss of focus, and decreases attention span. Naturally, people cannot work efficiently because of these issues.
Breakdown of effective communication: Perhaps the biggest challenge of managing remote employees during the COVID-19 pandemic is effective communication. As you and your team members must have discovered by now, it isn’t quite as simple as shooting off a few emails and calling a meeting. Your direct reports can’t casually walk up to your desk for a quick chat. You can’t see each other in the office and you have to make an effort to know who is working on what. This ‘blindness’ leads to an interesting situation–people tend to think the worst when they receive a negative message. For instance, if you get a brusque e-mail from a colleague who you know is having a bad day, you tend to brush it off. But when you’re working from home, you have no context on what is happening at the other person’s end. This causes more misunderstandings, negativity, and friction within the team.
Communication & Coordination Challenges
It’s hard enough to hold productive in-person meetings to coordinate different team members’ efforts to remain aligned. When everyone works from home, it becomes all the harder to stay on the same page.
Human beings rely on nonverbal communication when they speak. But emails, phone calls, and even video calls remove much of the nuance from how we communicate. Just think back to the last time someone misinterpreted an email or text message you sent for a quick example.
This problem is so inherent in virtual businesses that an entire industry has sprung up to solve it. Team collaboration and communication tools like Slack exist specifically to make it easier for companies to stay in touch and stay organized. GoToMeeting is another popular choice for companies to stay in touch using video conferencing.
Since the majority of the global workforce is not used to working from home, this sudden change has led to many problems. They are just adjusting their seats to meet the organizational needs amidst everything that is happening around the world. Work from home is prominent but comes with a lot of challenges like communication and coordination with team, failing network is the biggest interruption “Uncle wifi nahi chal raha check karo” which impacts productivity, you may get distracted by your dog or just feel like going through some memes on Instagram (which unknowingly turns from seconds to minutes to even a hour sometimes) or just sibling’s silly fights or just in a mood to workout.
Productivity:
Sitting at home by yourself all day takes a toll. Humans are social animals. They need interaction with other people. Without a water cooler to swap jokes, stories, and shop talk around occasionally, telecommuters can get lonely. People working from home sometimes struggle with productivity. Working away from your co-workers, with only remote online meetings, risks emotional disconnection and apathy. It can also encourage procrastination .
You might find that it helps to have particular clothes for working at home. Dressing for work can set the right mental tone for the day – and avoid the awkwardness of being dialed in to a virtual meeting while you're still in your pajamas! Also, avoid going into certain areas of your home, or sitting in certain chairs, for example, so that you know when you're in "work mode," and when you're not.
Productivity at office was optimal as there were no distractions, you had a great working environment and also who doesn’t like working with their colleagues and friends like family rather than completing the given tasks alone. The lack of interaction that often comes with remote work can also be a detriment to team building – something that is built during meetings, lunches, chai/ coffee/ cigarette breaks or even water cooler conversations.
Challenges faced by HR:
HR managers have been at the center of these pandemic-generated changes from the beginning. They had to navigate new health and safety requirements, support managers in the new normal, reduce headcount in some cases, and keep up with required administrative processes. Organizations now have to rely more than ever on their HR departments to ensure their workforce feel as safe as possible during this unprecedented and unpredictable times.
Some of the challenges are-
Performance Appraisal like you actually are not aware if the employee has given its best due to working remotely as compared to work from office.
Team collaboration like if you have to give any cross training or learn a new process.
Employee engagement is also affected due to pandemic as there is no connect with the management and just virtual meets or seminar or activities conducted by HR but all of this has been now fixed into a rectangular display which is not giving desired results.
Health and safety is the utmost priority of the workers and as employee is an asset of the organization especially after pandemic HR also needs to look into health and safety measures.
Promotion cycle is been simulated as company actually doesn’t have the same promotion cycle period which eventually demotivates the employee.
Challenges in Business continuity
If you’re working for yourself and think you can disregard administrative work, think again. You’ll probably end up doing more mundane administrative work than you ever did at your old day job. Ignoring business basics, like paying your bills, preparing your taxes, and invoicing clients, is a sure fire way to not only ruin your business but possibly trigger an audit with the IRS in the process.
Traditional jobs tend to come with paperwork, such as work reports, time sheets, travel expense reports, and accounts payable requests for freelancers and vendors. Still, each individual worker’s administrative work pales in comparison to the total amount needed to run a business. Beyond administrative work, businesses need systems in place to streamline all repetitive tasks. Otherwise, entrepreneurs spend all their working time on mundane work that doesn’t actually generate revenue and quickly go out of business.
Organizations are facing unprecedented times as the measures being deployed to slow the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) are impacting capital markets, supply chain, and business operations. The uncertainties of the current environment serve as a powerful reminder to senior decision-makers of the need for risk management and crisis planning.
Business continuity will be on a toss due to few obstacles like technical problems such as data loss, data protection, technology failure, incident management software and so on, Workforce will need to be retrained to be update as per the new changes, taking utmost care of cash flow management like does the organization have sufficient funds to continue operations or have a plan of how to address unanticipated expenses.
This pandemic poses significant challenges and unlike many crises has unfolded much advance warning or scope for preparation. Nevertheless, there is a wealth of information and resources that organizations can use to weather the pandemic and its aftermath and can be accessed here. CEOs and small business owners may find it helpful to bring this information to their boards or other advisors to stimulate discussion on the issue.
Its just not the cons, here are some pros:
Remotely working comes with a slew of benefits from no setting up alarm, no daily commute in the morning, No strict dress code (unless you have online meeting!), get a more flexible work schedule to being work anywhere in the world, and every benefit comes with a challenge like managing your own schedule and time like we suddenly look at the clock and realize their kids want food, you need to have a proper division between workspace and personal space. Humans are social animals they need interaction with people, occasionally talk or no face-to-face interaction can get people lonely.
New Learnings from the #NewNormal
As days progress, we see a positive adoption of the isolation, which was initially difficult to adjust to. So be it working from home, connecting with colleagues and teammates at a slightly more personal level, managing chores, and working more efficiently. People are now working around to make way for a new style of living.
Tools such as Zoom, Skype, and facilities such as conference calls earlier used exclusively for official meetings are increasingly used by people to connect with family, friends, and relatives. Every small act of kindness and courtesy, which was earlier absent, is now making a huge difference. People are now more appreciative of life, of things that were taken for granted before.

so uh, i was telling @ishibooty about my daydreams and the fact that somehow in two of these scenarios, marcus ends up joining libra, and all of a sudden it was 5am and i had 3k words of summary of marcus’ arc for one of them
there are two parts to it. this was supposed to be a side-plot. why am i like this
anyway enjoy my ramblings i guess
------------------------------------
Mushroom arc
Marcus and Leo meet at the hospital (Daniel came to visit/interrogate/make fun of Steven and kicked Leo out of the room) and leave a good impression on each other. (“So uh, are you also a cop ?” “Why does everyone assume that ? Is it my name ??”)
Later, Libra investigates on a drug ring. Because the drug seems to incorporate magic in its fabrication, making it as potent on humans as well as all sorts of beyondians, Leo is sent alongside Zapp to get a sample and get a closer look and maybe identify the spellcaster or something. Marcus is in the club and makes himself known, and it turns out he is part of the gang. Zapp and Leo get invited to a private room and meet some of the higher-ups (Marcus included), buy their sample, and are then asked to breathe into a container, of which they are assured it is perfectly safe, just a security measure. Since murdering clients seems like a pretty bad business plan for a drug ring, the duo does what they’re asked. They pass out and wake up in the club, with no memory of the past 30 minutes.
Later, Leo is greeted by Marcus at Diane’s Diner and they have a chat, during which Leo feels like he met Marcus recently but can’t seem to place it ? Marcus makes fun of him, asks if Leo has been hanging with Mushroom beyondians and at Leo’s confusion, mentions the amnesic effects of their spores.
Leo comes back to Libra all “MOM HOLY FUCK”, and the team decide to investigate that memory-erasing spore thing. Also one of Steven’s “contacts” discouraged him from looking deeper into the drug ring geez I wonder why that might be.
In parallel to that whole investigating, Leo goes to eat out with Nej, accidentally bumps into Marcus, and they somehow become a trio of burger pals ? (“wait what do you mean you sold Nej burgers for profit” “it’s money my dude”) Hanging out together during lunch break regularly, all that jam. At some point, following Leo and Marcus complaining about their respective workplaces and co-workers (preluded by Marcus being all like “work ? like, part-time ? aren’t you in high school ?” “… I’m 21…” (quietly) “what the fuck”), Nej mentions having an actual job but can’t seem to remember it. Cue laugh track I guess.
Plot twist it’s not funny it’s actually tragic because the place Nej works at is the spore extraction factory that serves as the center of that Mushroom traffic. Chain, Zapp, and Leo storm the place, Leo gets beaten up, Nej is traumatized, the Mushroom beyondians are evacuated, the building is burned down and so are the spores. Meanwhile, Marcus is allowed for the first time into the laboratory, meets the spellcaster, looks around the place and asks non-suspicious questions, he’s just curious and enthusiastic and kind of dumb in his cleverness but that’s just how Marcus is haha look at him, such a good and loyal guy (we hope).
Someone caught Leo and Zapp on tape while they destroyed the factory and since Marcus is friends with Leo, it’s a bit uhhhhhhh suspicious ? Marcus is all “do I look like I have control over whatever every single one of my friends does ?”, the Chief goes “okay well, would you fucking mind getting that kid over here so we can know where he learned about the spore factory ?”, and so Marcus goes to do just that.
Except he doesn’t. What he does is go see Leo at the hospital, offers to go on a walk in the hospital park, covertly gives Leo a vial of his own blood, and tells him to act like they’re fighting and then run away and bring the vial to Daniel. He then makes as if to grab Leo to take him with him.
Leo knees him in the dick and books it. The gang guy dispatched to make sure Marcus actually did his job watches and comes to the conclusion that Marcus is on their side because, like, yeah.
When he gets the news and the blood, Daniel calls the narc brigade to start the tracking, grabs Leo, gets in the car, and starts driving. The “tracking” is actually blood magic, the vial of blood Marcus gave Leo reacting to sigils he left at the lab and even on the spellcaster and forming spikes in the direction of it all. Turns out Marcus was an undercover narc looking to get his hands on the spellcaster (drug labs are rather easy to make, having a magic user able to apply their knowledge to that kind of craft is a lot less common).
Of course when magic is activated, it risks being picked up on by other magic users, so any intervention needs to be swift, and also Marcus seems to have been under some suspicion (why else would he ask Leo to serve as a middle-man) so things need to move real fast. (“wait so you’re going on a drug busting operation with a civilian in your car ? I know I said I wanted to know what the hell is going on but that’s kind of, like, uhhh” “you’re holding the vial and giving me the directions, I can’t do that while driving”)
Anyway, most of the gang is arrested, Marcus ends up in the hospital because he saw some kids crossing the road without watching and jumped in to save them, ironically saving him from being exposed as a cop to the underworld, and Leo later apologizes for kneeing him in the dick. End of arc
------------------------------------
Boss arc
Marcus takes advantage of his old gang being disbanded, and of him still looking like a regular crime guy, to join another, bigger group. The Boss welcomes him with open arms because 1) Marcus sells himself really well (“yo my brother’s a lieutenant of police, I got some intel”) and 2) they actually knew each other before the Collapse, and while Marcus never worked for him, the Boss has a lot of respect for him.
The burger trio still hangs out together, and sometimes Marcus also hangs out with Leo alone. It’s a nice break from work for Marcus honestly, Leo is a chill guy, and it’s great to not have to pretend to be someone else, with someone who isn’t Daniel, for once. And for Leo it’s also a nice break from the usual Libra madness. They share wacky stories, some gossip, one time Marcus arrives like “LEO HOLY FUCK” because he spotted Steven at Daniel’s flat and they both lose their shit. They also get a little more real sometimes I mean, both of them have some heavy baggage, and Marcus doesn’t have a lot of emotional support outside of his brother (who is married to his work and not great at emotions himself). In short, they’re friends.
Anyway, Leo may or may not be developing a crush – whatever the truth is, Zapp has decided to go on Big Brother mode and drag Zed along to stalk Marcus and make sure he’s an okay guy. (“are you sure this is necessary ?” “this is HL, and this is Leo, he’s like, a trouble magnet ! and if things turn out badly, guess who will have to deal with the fallout ?” “… you actually care, don’t you” “shut up !”) Of course, Marcus publicly performs as a Crime Guy, so that’s a little… well…
Zapp and Zed follow Marcus to a shady pub where Marcus has a meeting with the Boss (“wait isn’t this guy like, a crime lord” “god fucking dammit”), get spotted, but since Marcus isn’t about to out them as Libra if he can avoid it, he just ironically buys them a drink. And that’s how a hot mess and a merman end up sharing a table with a Crime Guy and a Crime Lord. Zapp, always the diplomat, asks Marcus to break up with Leo. Marcus is obviously very confused because, like, they’re not ??? A thing ??? So Zapp instead tells him to not start a thing, while Zed sits there nervously and very obviously tries to not look at the Boss.
Marcus laughs it off, but he ends up a little shaken by the encounter honestly, not because Zapp said anything particularly clever, but because it echoes doubts he’s been holding about himself for a while now. He’s been doing his job for quite a long time, has done quite a lot of shitty things to keep his cover up, and he – he isn’t quite sure he’s really helping. Sure, he’s lead to the dismantling of some drug rings, but was it worth it ? If he looks at what he did for the past years, how exactly is he different from the people he targets ?
Also there’s like, Collapse trauma, which in his case is also closely related to that whole issue. For three days, Marcus walked around with a suitcase of “merchandise” from whatever his gang was at the time, doing his best to survive and get that thing where he was supposed to get it and not lose it and not act like a servant of the people who would actually help, or try to help at least. Marcus made it out of the Collapse with his cover intact, his gang mostly dead, and a suitcase full of shit he didn’t know what to do with because the people he was supposed to bring it to died and he did it all for nothing. He let people die for nothing.
And he does feel a kinship with some of his “co-workers”. He’s friend with some of them. He slept with one of them, at a time when he had just lost whatever purpose he’d had for the three days the Collapse lasted, at a time when he couldn’t get in touch with his family and make sure they were alive and he was just so desperate for someone he knew, for some human warmth, for whatever comfort he could get. And the Boss (at the time not his boss, but someone he knew and who made business with whoever he used to work for) was kind and praised his determination and good work and just held him with no judgement.
Marcus enjoys the Boss’s company. What happened after the Collapse was a one-off thing, but they’ve been in touch ever since, drinking out sometimes, sharing some quiet comfort together. The Boss introduced Marcus to a new group in exchange for his merchandise. The Boss keeps on vouching for him, trusts him, and Marcus almost feels a little guilty.
He feels guilty a lot, he finds, whether that be when he enjoys drinking with his co-workers or when he works at home on a spell that would identify the caster in charge of their drug.
One time, Steven comes to the Boss with a deal, information for whatever price the Boss gives and Marcus sits there, at the Boss’ right, watches Steven and the apparent friendship between him and the Boss and thinks “ah”. Same fucked up hat, same dilemma, same constant walking a line you can barely see.
At Daniel’s place (Steven has been there a lot more often lately, and Marcus a lot less, but they still end up meeting at times), neither of them mention that moment of recognition. But Marcus mentions being a little tired, and Steven half-jokingly offers him a place in Libra, should he ever want a change of pace.
And Marcus thinks maybe, just maybe, this would be better. Maybe he could help, really help, the way he wants to. He just needs to finish this job. Just this one job.
It’s not that he means to isolate himself, he just really needs to figure this spell out, and anyway Zapp was exposed as Libra and that brought suspicion on Marcus because of the whole “don’t date my friend/colleague” incident and while the Boss trusts him, there’s this one guy who has some amazing instincts (and maybe holds a grudge for that time Marcus beat him up for trying to sell stuff to kids), and that means hanging out with Leo is probably a terrible idea. And he has work. And he is so, so tired. He has nightmares, too, a little more than usual. Maybe more than that.
It’s a good thing that there are spells offering protection against nightmares, really, a good thing there are spells that provide energy too. Marcus has a rule against ever consuming something he sells, but he’s been so tired lately that he gets close. But there are spells for sleep that work better than alcohol, and spells for energy that work better than cocaine, with none of the less appreciable side-effects, and it’s a shame the only magic he knows is blood magic because drawing blood to activate them is a pain, literally. But it’s a small trade-off for the ability to keep it together and finish his work.
Leo actually seeks him out once, and while the encounter is short because Marcus can’t afford to hang out with “most definitely Libra” and tells Leo that (and also mentions Zapp and Zed’s visit because he is petty), it’s also nice to have Leo be all “if it’s because you’re afraid of getting me into trouble, friendly reminder that this is HL and that I am Libra” at first and just. Miss him, apparently ? Marcus will have to treat him to lunch once he is done.
After that, after his eyes pick up on the weird magic going on over Marcus’ shoulder, Leo looks up spells by shape, and if he was worried about Marcus avoiding him before, he is now worried for an entire different set of reasons. Square-shaped spells are reinforced exponentially, and there’s no way anything stronger than a level-1 energy spell (the equivalent of an espresso) can be healthy. Also he is going to kill Zapp.
And finally, finally, Marcus gets his breakthrough. He finalizes his identification spell, drops a little blood on the powder in the middle of the circle, and gets a signature. He can track this caster. He grabs paper, a pencil, writes down the signature sigil, calls Daniel to tell him that he got it, and – and there was a defensive spell inside the drug because of course there was and Daniel needs to come here right now.
At the time, Daniel is wrapping up a case with Klaus and Gilbert nearby, and there is no question what the fastest vehicle here is. The others can manage without him. Daniel reaches Marcus’ flat in record time, Klaus on his heels, and they find Marcus unconscious on the floor, left arm injured, in a state that seems much worse than it should be.
Daniel grabs the paper Marcus is holding, Klaus compresses the injury and carries Marcus to the car, and Gilbert drives as fast as possible in these conditions. Calls are made – to the narc brigade, sending them the signature so they can do whatever it is they need to do with it and so they can prepare to start the tracking of what Marcus left for them to find, and to Steven, who is currently free and can absolutely help in the capture of the higher-ups of the gang (Leo definitely helps spot anyone who escapes).
Luciana welcomes them with the same determination she has at all times, and the slight annoyance she always expresses at seeing Daniel, and hurries Marcus inside. “What did he take ?” she asks, and Daniel could strangle her. Marcus doesn’t take anything, he is a professional, how dare she – but he is overdosing, Klaus was the only thing keeping his heart beating during the drive there, and the powder on the floor of his flat seemed weirdly crystallized, like it had solidified and broken. And there was no weapon that could explain Marcus’ injuries. And the conclusion Daniel and Luciana reach is. Bad.
He answers Luciana’s questions, asks for a small sample of Marcus’ blood, shouts at whoever he has on the phone at the time, and goes for the car. Luciana is baffled, Gilbert readies to drive, and Klaus says he will stay at the hospital and call if anything happens. It’s not a pretty arrangement, but the look on Daniel’s face was one that promised death to anything that tried to stop him, so.
I could go into length about the capture, about the way Daniel almost killed the Boss for his words, about the return to the hospital and the gruelling wait for news, about the way the Luciana on coffee break duty told Daniel off for criticizing her devotion to her work when he isn’t much better himself, about the relief Daniel felt at it being personal, a revenge of sorts, instead of something he’s heard much too often about his being heartless. He isn’t, if Marcus died it would break him, but he simply doesn’t know any other way to deal with these emotions than drowning them in work.
Later that night, after Steven has dragged him home to make him catch at least some sleep, he will tell Steven about the death of his grandfather, back when he was a kid, about Marcus crying for an hour, about himself not shedding a single tear, instead finishing the model boat the three of them had started because he needed to do something. It will be the first time they have that kind of discussion, the first time it feels like whatever they have going on is a serious relationship. But that is a story for another time.
When Marcus wakes up, a few days later, he asks Daniel to transmit his resignation letter. His recovery will take time, months even, to get back to a functioning state both physically and mentally, but that is the first step towards that. Another step will be to buy Leo and Nej lunch when he gets discharged, reconnecting with them. And another will be to ask Steven if the job offer was serious, and to accept it.
Marcus joins Libra as a blood mage with some background information on drug dealings, and he thinks, for the first time in forever, he can help.
(Also he hasn’t told Daniel anything about that last part and he is not looking forward to that conversation, at all.)

Bungie Weekly Update - 3/28/19
This week at Bungie, Lord Saladin is watching you.
The Iron Banner rages on. Once again, players are invited to test their mettle in Crucible combat—with Power enabled. The Iron Burden and Wolf’s Favor are new features we’ve added to mix things up, and rewards have been refreshed to offer two updated weapons and the new Iron Symmachy armor set for each class.
If you haven’t jumped in just yet, Iron Banner bounties have been updated with new objectives, and each bounty will grant a powerful reward. Some quest steps for Thorn and the Recluse also progress faster in the Iron Banner, so if you’re on the hunt for these rewards, now’s the time to grind them out!
Today, we’re focusing on change.
Destiny 2 Update 2.2.1 is on approach, and we have another round of server-side changes coming to Gambit and Gambit Prime Matchmaking to tune your experience.
Refreshing
Each Tuesday, Guardians look forward to a new set of objectives and challenges to complete in the world of Destiny 2—rotating Crucible modes, new bounties to complete, and every so often, a Curse Week in the Dreaming City.
For some time now, we’ve been encountering issues where some of our resets would catch bad streaks, preventing players from completing various Triumphs or earning their desired Titles. We’ve taken some time to address these issues and wanted to give an update on status.
Nightfalls
This week, the Corrupted is available for Forsaken owners to complete. If this is the last checkmark you need for the Dreaming City Seal, make sure you head to The Dreaming City before the weekly reset!
Moving forward, we’ll be putting effort into preventing streaks where specific Nightfalls appear multiple weeks in a row or don’t appear at all for months, and we’ll be making sure your experience tackling strikes associated with Seals isn’t feast or famine.
Ada-1 Weapon Frames
While weapon frames aren’t tied to any specific Seals, we understand that players are on the hunt for new and exciting rolls on their favorite weapons. Since Black Armory released, there have been a few streaks where Sniper Rifle or Machine Gun frames didn’t appear for many weeks in a row.
In Destiny 2 Update 2.2.1, Ada-1 will begin offering all weapon frames each week. While players will still be limited in how many different frames they may acquire per week, we are removing the weekly rotation.
As Destiny 2 continues to evolve throughout the Annual Pass and beyond, we’ll continue to deliver quality-of-life changes like the ones described above to address common feedback items. Some changes may come more quickly than others, but we’ll continue to deploy updates to provide a better player experience. Speaking of these changes, read on for a quick preview of our next update!
Destiny 2 Update 2.2.1 Preview
Tentatively planned for April 9, Destiny 2 Update 2.2.1 will bring a variety of quality-of-life changes and bug fixes. Below is a short list of topics that we commonly see in the wild. Note, if any issues are found in the final weeks of development, the following may change or be delayed. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on status as we get closer to release.
Dreaming City cosmetics
Drop rates for the Ghost, ship, and Sparrow have been doubled, tripled, or more for their respective activities
Last Wish cosmetics
Drop rates for the Ghost, ship, and Sparrow have been doubled, tripled, or more for their respective checkpoints
One Thousand Voices
This Exotic will continue to be rare among players, but we’ve tuned the drop weights to give slightly better chances than what are currently available
Increasing drop rates for various Lore Books
Cayde’s Stash
Dreaming City
Tangled Shore
Invitations of the Nine
Currently, players must complete an Invitation of the Nine by Tuesday reset in order to have a new invitation appear on Friday
After Update 2.2.1, players have through Thursday’s reset at 10AM to complete the invitation
Nightfall Power Handicap
In Season of the Drifter, the Five of Swords card was updated to apply score multipliers only after setting a Power handicap of 100+
In Update 2.2.1, we’ll be adding +25 and Max Handicap buttons to help players set their handicaps more efficiently
Destiny 2 Update 2.2.1 will also kick off Arc Week. Be sure to check back next week for information on how we’ll be celebrating Arc Energy in Season of the Drifter.
Security Update
Members of our Security Response Team spend their days swinging the banhammer against those suspected of cheating. They also inform players they they need to work on improving their network connections. This week, we have a few updates on their efforts.
Security Response Team: Our mandate is to safeguard the experience of our players against those opponents who would detract from your fun in the Destiny universe. Today, we want to talk about two different initiatives we’ve been focused on recently.
Aimbots vs Macros
It’s important to us that people with disabilities be able to use accessibility tools, which sometimes include simple automation. It’s one of the reasons why we fixed the Titan Skating macro issue in-game, instead of simply punishing people running automation tools. However, there is a clear line between macros and aimbots. Players who stray into the latter territory will find themselves no longer welcome in the Destiny universe. We’re currently in the process of banning a number of players on PC who have been detected using aimbots to unnaturally augment their skill. Defeating your opponents, whether they’re AI or other Guardians, should always be about your own skill. We’ll continue to make sure that’s the case.
Plugging In
In December, we announced that we would begin issuing warnings and restrictions to players with extremely poor network connections that lasted for a prolonged period of time. We’re happy to report that 90% of the players who received a warning have not been detected for having a poor connection again.
For people who have struggled to improve their connection after receiving a warning, we want to be clear: Stability is more important than speed. Latency and Packet Loss are the biggest concerns for Destiny, not throughput (mbps). Here are a few choice quotes from our Network Troubleshooting Guide: “While average bandwidth usage is considerably lower, Destiny may request up to 1 Mbps download and upload bandwidth. Destiny creates connections between a player's console, Bungie’s servers, and other players in a unique way. As such, network performance in other games and applications is often NOT a good indicator that the network is setup for a stable connection to Destiny. The most common sources of lag and frequent disconnects are high latency and packet loss.”
We encourage players who receive a warning or restriction due to their network connection to visit the Latency and Packet Loss section of our Network Troubleshooting Guide.
Finally: Thank you to the players who have used the Player Report features in-game and on bungie.net to help us identify opponents who are hurting your experience. While we’ll never rely on Player Reports alone to issue restrictions, it is incredibly helpful for corroborating the hard data we gather.
Time for Prime
Two weeks ago, we made some adjustments to Gambit Matchmaking to help even the playing field. To give a refresh of what the change was and why it was made, here’s some context from a previous edition of ‘This Week at Bungie’:
Gambit is a team-based activity. As such, players who are in a pre-made fireteam have a communication advantage. To offset that advantage, we've raised the internal skill rating of pre-made fireteams to pull in higher skill enemies to fight against. With this change, even as a solo player, you'll still have a chance. Plus, your other matched fireteam mates should be higher skilled as well.
After modifying normal Gambit settings to try to create fairer matches, we re-evaluated the settings and have further tweaks to try to get them even fairer. We’ve also now had a chance to collect data on Gambit Prime and are applying these changes to Gambit Prime matchmaking to take advantage of our findings. The changes to Gambit Prime matchmaking are live now. If you encounter any issues, please report your experience to the #Help forum on bungie.net.
Iron Support
Whether you’re on the road to increasing your Power or taking your first steps as a Guardian, Destiny Player Support is at the ready to get you the information you need for success. If you need an assist, you can find then in the #Help forum, or content authored by the team on help.bungie.net.
This is their report.
Saladin’s Pride
This week, we kicked off the first Iron Banner for Season of the Drifter. Unlike other activities, which may require Destiny 2: Forsaken or Annual Pass ownership, Iron Banner is available to all Guardians in Destiny 2 who wish to test their mettle.
Last week, we highlighted some key differences in this season’s Iron Banner experience. For players joining us in progress, we’ve got a convenient summary below.
Changes in Season of the Drifter:
Iron Burden: This consumable reduces a player’s Power by 100 in Iron Banner and is available for purchase from Lord Saladin.
Wolf’s Favor: This consumable increases a player’s Power by 100 (to a player’s cap) in Iron Banner and can be earned by daily and weekly challenges.
Wizened Rebuke: This curated and Masterworked Fusion Rifle is unlocked by defeating 500 enemies in Iron Banner while under the effect of Iron Burden before Season of the Drifter ends.
Weight of Guilt: This emblem is unlocked by completing all weekly bounties during an Iron Banner event. Weight of Guilt tracks higher-Power opponents defeated while under the effects of Iron Burden.
Bounties: All Iron Banner bounties will now grant a powerful reward upon completion as well as unlock direct-purchase rewards from Lord Saladin.
We are also tracking two issues that players may encounter in Iron Banner:
The Weight of Guilt Emblem: We're aware of an issue where the cost to purchase The Weight of Guilt emblem is not exposed to players after they unlock it for purchase from Lord Saladin.
This emblem costs 40 Iron Banner tokens once players have unlocked it for purchase by completing all of Lord Saladin's Iron Banner bounties during a single event.
"Iron Ruby" Iron Banner Shader: We're investigating an issue where players can't attain this shader.
For more information on Iron Banner, players should visit our Iron Banner Guide.
Delayed Invitations
In recent weeks, Xûr has begun offering Annual Pass players his Invitations of the Nine. These invitations are short-term pursuits that reward players with powerful gear and lore experiences.
Players who accept these invitations should be aware that they must be completed by the following weekly reset in order for Xûr to offer a new invitation in his next visit. Players who complete an Invitation of the Nine after the weekly reset will need to wait another week to become eligible for a new invitation from Xûr.
Prime Time
This week, Gambit Prime features its final map before all maps enter the Gambit Prime playlist rotation. Players who want to get their uninterrupted fill of Emerald Coast have the rest of this week to do so, until the weekly reset next Tuesday. If, at that time, you and your clanmates decide to relive the glory days of uninterrupted gameplay on your favorite map, we’ve got good news! Next Tuesday (4/2), Gambit Prime unlocks in Gambit Private Matches for Annual Pass players. There, players can choose their favorite Gambit Prime setup, including map, encounter variants, high value target spawn availability, and whether or not Power is enabled during invasions.
If you’re itching to learn the ropes and set up your own Gambit match, classic Gambit Private Matches are available right now for Destiny 2: Forsaken players.

Wordless
Yoongi has this thing. No one really talks about it, but it simmers just below the surface of every interaction he has with the other members. It’s equal parts understanding and indulgence – it’s understanding that Yoongi has this thing, and indulging him by giving him what he needs. And what he needs is Park Jimin. It’s not that there’s anything special about Jimin, exactly, not really. It’s just that... things always seem to go more smoothly for Bangtan when Yoongi can be near Jimin. He’s not helpless without him, though Jimin has a natural tendency to mother him when they share space. It’s just that being close to him, Jimin practically the embodiment of all things cute and cheerful in the world, makes Yoongi feel more at ease and much more of a willing participant in whatever ridiculous activities they have been volunteered for on any given day. He’s more relaxed, his remarks are softer, and he finds himself smiling more often. Maybe it’s that Jimin’s bubbliness is contagious, but if that were the case, proximity to Hoseok would serve the same purpose. And yet Yoongi doesn’t feel the acute sense of security when Hoseok is close by that he does when Jimin is. The problem is just that... Jimin doesn’t actually know that Yoongi has this thing. If he thinks it strange that he’s always placed beside the rapper in interviews or paired up with him for games lately, he doesn’t mention it. And honestly, Yoongi knows it only works because it’s Jimin. The dancer, for his part, is a relatively laidback person. There isn’t much anyone can do to irritate him (though not for a lack of trying by the maknae line), so it’s pretty easy to maneuver him into certain placements when they’re preparing to be in front of an audience. But keeping him in the dark is starting to grate on the other members’ nerves.
In fact, Hoseok has been bugging Yoongi for weeks about coming clean to the boy and making everyone’s lives a little easier. “I just don’t understand why you keep treating it like Jimin finding out the truth is the nuclear option. He’s a good kid, it’s not like he’d be disgusted by you or something, you know? And if that’s what you think, you really don’t know him very well at all,” Hoseok says one day while they’re mixing a song together in his studio. His big brown eyes are focused on the computer screen in front of him, but he’s wearing a frown that doesn’t suit his normally cheerful face. Yoongi grunts from his position curled up on a chair in the corner, refusing even to deem Hoseok’s suggestion with a proper answer. Hoseok really doesn’t get it. It’s a serious blow to Yoongi’s pride just admitting out loud that he has a problem, let alone making Jimin himself aware of it. No, Jimin can’t find out. A week after this one-sided conversation, Jimin finds out. The whole fiasco plays out like a scene from a badly written sitcom. It starts when they’re backstage waiting to film a Section TV interview about their new album. Yoongi’s laying down on one of the couches as usual, trying to catch up on the sleep he didn’t get the night before. Three hours into their wait, just before they’re scheduled to go on, Seokjin hyung and the maknae are reviewing the scripted questions and who is slated to answer what. Seokjin hyung has a soft spot for Jungkook the size of Seoul itself, so his voice is soft as they go back and forth practicing. Eventually, the discussion turns to the game they’re supposed to play at the end of the interview. “So, I’ll be with Joonie here,” Seokjin hyung says pointing at the chart. “You’ll be with Taehyungie and Hobi here on the other side.” Yoongi’s only half paying attention until he overhears his name. “Mine’s different, hyung. Yoongi hyung and I are supposed to pair together and Jimin hyung is with Taehyung hyung and Hoseok hyung on this side,” Jungkook says. Yoongi cracks open one eye to peer at them hunched over together on the other couch. Seokjin hyung is frowning at Jungkook’s layout of the game so hard that his forehead is all creased and his lips are pushed out in a (admittedly really cute) pout. Jungkook is wearing a similar expression and Yoongi has a bad feeling something annoying is about to happen. “That can’t be right, Yoongi and Jimin can’t be on different teams,” he says. Oh. So that just happened. Yoongi scrambles up into a sitting position just as Seokjin hyung realizes his slip. His eyes go comically wide and he claps a hand over his mouth, his panicked stare meeting Yoongi’s across the room. It’s too much to hope Jimin hasn’t overheard him, and indeed, the dancer is already eyeing Seokjin hyung with a confused expression on his face. “What are you talking about, hyung?” By now, every occupant in the dressing room has stopped what they were doing and five pairs of eyes slide over to Yoongi’s frozen form on the couch. Well, shit. “Hyung?” Jimin’s voice is a little more insistent this time. He’s avoiding looking at Yoongi entirely which isn’t doing much for Yoongi’s confidence. “Jimin-ah... listen, it’s not –” Taehyung’s attempts at smoothing things over are drowned out by Hoseok, who’s apparently at the end of his rope. “Jimin, it’s like this,” Hoseok starts. Yoongi swallows the lump in his throat, too shocked to stop him at this point. Hoseok folds his arms over his chest, immediately assuming “Dance Instructor Hope” mode, and even Yoongi shrinks back a little at his intense expression. He levels Jimin with a hard look. “Yoongi hyung says he likes being close to you during interviews and stuff... so, we always try to pair you guys up or seat you near each other. It’s not really a big deal.” Jimin’s mouth drops open a bit, but he doesn’t look disgusted or freaked out. Yoongi figures he’s taking it pretty well, all things considered. He stares, wide-eyed, around the room, until his eyes finally land on Yoongi. “Wait... really, hyung?” His voice is a little small and his cheeks are a little red, but he doesn’t turn away and Yoongi’s own face heats up from all the attention. He doesn’t know how to respond so he just nods. “O-Oh.” Jimin looks like he’s got more to say, but just then, one of the crewmembers pops his head into the room to let them know it’s time to go on. Yoongi hears someone groan (probably Hoseok). He doesn’t get a chance to find out who it is before his attention is caught by Jimin rushing out of the room, one small hand grasping Taehyung’s wrist and dragging the taller boy with him. There’s an awkward pause, the rest of the members staring between Yoongi and the empty doorway, mouths agape. All told, The Big Reveal™ probably could have gone a lot worse considering the people Yoongi has to deal with (i.e., five out of seven members of Bangtan Sonyeondan), and Jimin probably could have taken it a lot worse, but his running out like that doesn’t really instill Yoongi with much confidence. “To be fair,” Seokjin hyung says after a beat, “he did just find out his least favorite hyung in the group has to be glued to his side at all times to make him less of a grump. He’s basically the equivalent of a Snicker’s bar to Yoongi. He probably needs a minute to process.” Yoongi groans. Seokjin hyung’s facetious assessment of the situation makes it sound so much worse than it actually is. The “to make him less of a grump” part isn’t necessarily true – Yoongi doesn’t hate being an idol, in fact he’s pretty proud of how far they’ve come – and contrary to popular belief he doesn’t dislike interviews, either. It’s just his nerves tend to get the best of him sometimes and he needs Jimin to – Wait. Yoongi’s eyes narrow. “Least favorite hyung?” Seokjin hyung shrugs as if it’s just the most obvious thing. “Well, it’s obviously not me or Joonie. And Hobi’s his roommate by choice, so…” It’s a few hours after filming has wrapped and the managers have dropped everyone back at the dorm for the evening that Jimin finally seeks Yoongi out at the Genius Lab. Truth be told, Yoongi doesn’t have anything he’s working on that requires him to be in the studio – he’s just hiding. And poorly, at that, it seems, because Jimin knows exactly where to find him. Yoongi considers pretending he’s not there, but there’s no point in delaying the inevitable since they’re in the same band and share a house and all. Jimin will find him eventually. Still, that thought doesn’t rouse him into standing up and letting the boy in any faster and Yoongi spends a few moments just staring at the closed studio door. He jolts at the sound of Jimin’s voice. It’s quiet and cautious, questioning, uncertain. “Hyung?” Yoongi takes a deep breath and opens the door, revealing a somewhat flustered Jimin who’s standing a couple of feet back and wringing his hands together. Yoongi practically deflates at the sight of him looking so nervous. “Hi, hyung,” Jimin says. Yoongi stands back and opens up wider for Jimin to come in. He pauses for a second, debates leaving the door ajar, but the last thing he needs now is for the janitor or some company straggler to overhear them. The door clicks shut with a ring of finality and they’re left in the confines of Yoongi’s studio. Silence bears down on them like a two-ton elephant, heavy and unbearable. While he’s never been as close to Jimin as some of the other members, like Taehyung, are, Yoongi likes to think they’ve never been this awkward, either. Jimin stands in the middle of the room like he doesn’t know whether to sit down or not. He won’t make eye contact with Yoongi and honestly, it’s all ridiculous. “Jimin-ah –” “Hyung –” Yoongi groans. “Okay, this is dumb. Sit, let’s talk. We need to talk.” He gestures to the couch and Jimin lets out a long breath before flopping down and settling himself against the cushions. Yoongi follows suit, taking a seat in his desk chair. He rolls forward until he’s directly in front of the couch, but not wanting to make Jimin any more uncomfortable than he is already, he leaves a couple of feet of space between them. “So…” Jimin says after a few more protracted seconds of silence. “I talked to Hoseok hyung.” “Okay.” “I’m sorry I ran out like that.” Yoongi lifts a shoulder in a lame attempt at being casual, but it comes off as more of a flinch. He leans back in his chair, swallows the lump lodged in his throat, and waits for Jimin to go on. “It’s just… I don’t really understand, you know?” Jimin says frowning. He’s distractingly adorable. “Hobi hyung told me it’s not a big deal, but I don’t… he said I should just ask you myself.” Yoongi runs a hand down his face as his cheeks redden. He takes a deep breath. “It – It makes me feel better during interviews and stuff t-to have you… close by.” “Feel better?” Jimin asks, cocking his head. His face doesn’t hold any judgment – he just looks genuinely confused. “Like, less nervous?” Yoongi nods. “You make me feel calmer.” There’s a pause in which Jimin doesn’t say anything, and then he sighs. “You should have told me. Or… or someone should have told me.” Yoongi nods again, scratching the back of his neck somewhat sheepishly. “Yeah. Yeah, I know. Sorry.” “I just – I just felt kind of stupid. I-If I knew about it, I could have helped you sooner, hyung.” Yoongi’s eyes widen. Sure, he’s let the other members help him covertly, but that was only after Seokjin hyung noticed how stiff and stone-faced Yoongi had started being whenever they were in front of a camera. A few weeks ago, he’d cornered Yoongi with Hoseok and Namjoon and told him they were staging an intervention before things got so bad that management realized there was a problem. They’d tried everything from plying Yoongi with different kinds of calming teas, to smelling salts and massages, but nothing had really worked quite as well as just having Jimin nearby. But the help the members had given him thus far was a world away from forcing Jimin to stay glued to his side every time there was a camera around. “Helped? Jimin, I don’t – You don’t have to help me,” Yoongi says. That’s more or less just a flat out lie, and Jimin can probably tell that it is, but Yoongi says it anyway to make himself feel less like a creep. “Why not? It’s not like you’re asking me to marry you or something,” Jimin says. “Sitting by you in interviews isn’t going to put me out any, hyung.” Yoongi shakes his head. “It’s just something I need to get over. We’re idols, right? It’s not like we haven’t done a million interviews before. I can get by.” Except the truth is that he probably can’t. He doesn’t know why Jimin makes him feel better, he just does, and the panic that sets in every time Jimin has a different schedule than he does hasn’t lessened any since all this started. Jimin peers at him with a concerned expression. He bites his lip, hesitating over his next words. “Is it – is it because of…?” Yoongi’s head bobs up and down of its own accord. It’s been a few months since The Incident™, but Yoongi would be lying if he said that wasn’t the reason why he’s like this now. Prior to their last comeback, BTS had been doing the promotional circuit as usual. The agency was notoriously picky about the programs they added to Bangtan’s schedule, so it was only the second time they’d actually sat down for a formal interview the whole year. Filming for the show was live, as it was a news program, which translated to mean that none of the managers had access to any of the members during the course of the interview. As luck would have it, while the cameras were rolling, an uncorroborated story accusing BTS’s Suga of plagiarizing portions of a song on their last album came out. None of BigHit’s managers could interrupt the interview without making things worse, but the same couldn’t be said for the news anchor, who received the story in the middle of filming. To say Yoongi was blindsided would be a gross understatement. He still remembers the disbelief in the interviewer’s voice as she read portions of the story out loud. She’d turned to Yoongi with wide eyes and pinned him with questions he didn’t have answers to. “Suga-ssi, I’ve just received word that an unnamed producer within the music industry has accused you of plagiarizing his unreleased lyrics for a song on your last album. Is there anything you can tell us about this? Has anyone approached you or your agency with regard to these claims?” Yoongi had completely frozen up. He’d stuttered out a few words about not knowing what the anchor was talking about before Namjoon jumped in to smooth things over. “This is something we have not been privately approached about. I apologize, but there’s nothing more we can say about this issue right now.” The story was quashed almost immediately after that initial interview when it was determined the claims were unsubstantiated. And yet, the experience had left Yoongi on edge. The feeling of being unprepared and overwhelmed by the sudden news was something that stayed with him even now, and the fear of such a thing happening again bled into every public appearance Bangtan had made since that day. That is… until that first time Jimin had crowded up against him during one of their fansigns a few weeks after the news interview. Like someone pressing the “Mute” button on a remote control, the doubts in Yoongi’s mind were quelled and he was finally able to relax. He’d never wanted to let that feeling of utter relief slip out of his hands again. “Hyung?” Jimin’s soft voice brings him back to the present, and Yoongi shakes the cobwebs out of his head. He meets Jimin’s eyes. There’s no pity or disgust or disappointment in them. He just looks worried. That’s the thing about Jimin that Yoongi’s always been grateful for but has never been able to understand. He has this fierce sense of selflessness that drives him in everything he does – a way to put aside his own demons (of which he seems to have many) in favor of helping those he cares about, no questions asked. He gazes at Yoongi unwaveringly with a burning determination reflected in his eyes and Yoongi realizes he’s lost the fight before it even started. “Please let me help you?” “Fine. Okay.”
Yoongi is loathe to admit it (and he’d sooner eat worms than make such a confession to Hoseok), but Jimin finding out the truth makes things a lot easier. No longer does he have to be sneaky about his need for proximity to the younger. The members, now with the aid of Jimin himself, do all they can to ensure that Yoongi and Jimin are near each other during all public appearances. It becomes routine, and the result is a much less jittery Yoongi and an even more affable Jimin. Management is relatively understanding about the whole thing, too, though Yoongi suspects that’s only because they’re afraid of the consequences of separating him from Jimin. He’s a naturally withdrawn person, but ever since The Incident™ his lethargy during recordings has been even more apparent than usual, bordering on impropriety, which is no good for PR. So, management eventually stops trying to upend the members’ attempts at helping him when they realize everyone’s in much higher spirits as a result. All in all, The Big Reveal™ brings tension levels down significantly and Yoongi is finally able to relax. Until he’s not anymore. At some point, the natural pairing off of Jimin and Yoongi starts bleeding into their “off-camera” lives. Yoongi doesn’t even realize it at first, the way the other members seem to just naturally isolate them, but then it starts to happen all the time. And if one thing is clear, it’s that Jimin and Yoongi have no idea how to behave around each other anymore when there’s no audience.
Soon enough they’re approaching the end of promotions for their new album, a repackage of the one released at the beginning of the summer. Yoongi is exhausted and all he wants to do is sleep for a month straight, but they’re scheduled for a fansign right after this music show recording, so rest is going to have to wait. Music show recordings are the worst part of comeback season by far. The schedules are generally horrendous, and there’s hardly ever any rhyme or reason to the way the recordings are actually done. Most of the time, they arrive at the studio around dawn and spend the entire day holed up in a waiting room until the wee hours of the next morning when they’re finally given a chance on the stage to record their performance. But Inkigayo takes the cake. Since the show airs in the afternoon rather than in the evening, their recordings are usually scheduled for around midnight, which means they spend the entire night and most of the morning hanging around at SBS. “Yoongi hyung?” He’s brought out of his thoughts by the sound of Jimin’s confused voice at the door. “Hey. Is it time to go?” Yoongi stands up from his place on the couch, gathering his coffee and his phone and then glances around to make sure he’s not missing anything. “Yeah, it is… but I can’t find any of the others,” Jimin says. He’s standing in the doorway of the waiting room backstage, but his attention is on the hallway outside. He looks back and forth, from one end of the hall to the other. Ultimately, he gives up on finding whoever he’s looking for and stops fidgeting long enough to meet Yoongi’s eyes. There’s a somewhat sour, knowing expression on his face, which probably mirrors an identical one worn by the rapper. It’s the fourth time this week the other members have abandoned them at a schedule to make their way to the next event on their own. Yoongi doesn’t normally care who he’s shuttled from location to location with, but the awkwardness between him and Jimin has been unbearable lately and every time they’re left alone together like this, it seems to just keep getting worse. “Fuckers,” Yoongi mutters. He heaves a long-suffering sigh, not even surprised at this point. “Let’s just go. Do you know where Hobum hyung is?” “Should be in the car, I guess.” They make their way out of the studio together, keeping a careful half-foot distance between them so they don’t accidentally touch each other. Fortunately, most of the fans that had been waiting outside have dispersed by now, so it’s a relatively painless affair getting situated in the car. The drive over to the location for the fansign is made in a silence so stifling that Yoongi actually has to crack open his window to let in some air. He hates this, absolutely hates the fact that he can’t have a normal interaction with Jimin anymore, hates that they get along better on-camera now than they do off. He wants more than anything to fix it, somehow, to have things go back to the way they were, but he doesn’t know what to do. He can see Jimin from the corner of his eye right now and the dancer is staring resolutely outside at the passing streets. He’s clutching at the seat between them, his thumb jiggling the big silver ring on his middle finger back and forth out of habit. Yoongi bites his lip. Jimin is a tactile person. Everyone knows this. If being around Jimin helps Yoongi feel better, then maybe… As subtly as he can, Yoongi places his hand beside Jimin’s on the seat between them. When the dancer doesn’t move away, he locks their pinkies together. Jimin sighs, tightening his grip just enough to let Yoongi know he appreciates the gesture, however small.
Things start to get a little bit easier after that day, once Jimin realizes Yoongi’s making an effort to lessen the sudden weirdness between them. “I’m home!” It’s a rare afternoon off and Yoongi has been using it to catch up on sleep after being at the studio all night. The house is uncharacteristically quiet, so Jimin’s voice rings loudly through the hall and rouses him from his nap. He groans, burying his face into his pillow in an attempt to melt into the impossibly soft 1000-thread count sheets he’d bought for just this reason. But then Jimin yells out again, and not even his bell-like voice is anything but irritating right now. “TaeTae? Kookie? Anyone here?” “No one’s home. Go away,” he groans out. “Yoongi hyung?” A moment later, the sound of Jimin’s slippered feet padding through the hallway reaches him, followed immediately by a soft knock on his bedroom door. “Hyung? Can I come in?” He groans again, but doesn’t have the energy to protest as Jimin cautiously peers in at him. “Hey.” Yoongi frowns at him and lifts a hand to wave. Jimin takes that as enough of an invitation to shuffle into the room, though he stays near the door and doesn’t come any closer. Everyone knows Jimin is a tactile person, but he’s always respected Yoongi’s need for physical space. He’s actually the only one who has. “Are you the only one home?” Jimin asks. He’s got his hands clasped behind his back and he looks a little uncertain as he scuffs his slippered foot against Yoongi’s plush beige carpet. Yoongi raises a brow, hit by the sudden realization that the dancer feels awkward. “Mm, think so,” he mutters. He closes his eyes and presses his face back into his pillows. “Um, do you know where everyone went?” Jimin asks. His voice is soft and cautious, as if afraid to set Yoongi off. Knowing that he makes the younger feel uncomfortable doesn’t settle well with Yoongi, so he tries to make his voice just as low and unthreatening as Jimin’s when he answers. “To eat, I think. At the pojangmacha around the corner – the one with the really spicy ddukboki that Seokjin hyung likes.” He turns on his side to face Jimin properly, cocooned within his warm blankets, the remnant haze of his nap swirling around him. Jimin hums. He’s still hanging nervously near the door, but his eyes are focused on Yoongi, and the elder is surprised to find a bit of determination in the set of his shoulders. They’re at an impasse. Yoongi swallows, unsure how to proceed when Jimin looks like he neither wants to remain in the room nor make a move to leave, either. But then, it’s like Yoongi’s possessed by some demon, because the words that spill out of his mouth next are not ones he was planning to say out loud. He blames it on his sleep-addled mind. “Wanna take a nap with me?” Jimin’s mouth drops open just a fraction and he almost takes an automatic step forward before he stops short, hesitating. “Hyung?” Yoongi burrows back into his mound of blankets, turning away from the door entirely, but leaving a little space at the edge of the bed just in case. “I’m going to sleep, Jimin-ah. Close the door on your way out if you’re not going to stay.” He must not be alone in wanting to dispel the tension between them because a few (long, unbearable) seconds later, he feels the bed dip down behind him. Jimin slides under the covers, trying to maintain as much distance as possible and failing almost entirely when every inch of his body from his shoulder to his leg brush up against Yoongi as he tries to make himself comfortable. He springs backward, and Yoongi can literally feel him flailing wildly to keep from falling off the bed. There’s a few more moments of shuffling around before Jimin finally settles down. They lay in silence for a while, most of the sleepiness Yoongi had been fighting to hold on to having dissipated by now, until eventually he can’t stand it anymore. “Jimin-ah?” “Hyung?” “Are you hungry?” As if in response, Jimin’s stomach lets out a monstrous grumble and Yoongi snorts. He flips over onto his back and stares up at the white ceiling of his bedroom for a long moment. Jimin is warm beside him, and despite whatever weirdness has been floating between them lately, Yoongi feels his body relax involuntarily. He reaches over and takes Jimin’s hand, twining their fingers together loosely. Jimin sighs but doesn’t pull away. “How does the monster in your stomach feel about us making some ramyun?” Yoongi asks. “I think he would like that very much.”
That’s all it really takes. Jimin and Yoongi begin taking deliberate but incremental steps to restore their relationship to the way it was before. As such, it’s not exactly a surprise that all the “forced” proximity fosters a new kind of closeness between them. They become attuned to each other – their wants and needs, their likes and dislikes. Within just a few weeks, Yoongi learns more about Jimin than he has in the whole six years since they met.
Eventually, the awkwardness between them melts away entirely. It’s partly to do with Jimin’s inability to keep his hands to himself, though Yoongi knows the younger would hold himself back if ever asked, and partly to do with the fact that they’re somehow always around each other. Promotions for the repackage finally, finally end and Bangtan’s gathered in the practice room for an end-of-comeback group picture for the band’s official Twitter account. As usual it’s a tight squeeze on the couch that’s been selected for the photo. (“It promotes skinship,” according to one of the manager hyungs.) Yoongi settles on the arm rest, which is the only free space left by the time he makes his way over, and he barely has a chance to process Jimin’s lithe form settling down on his left thigh, precariously perched between his legs, his own hand automatically wrapping around the younger boy’s waist, before the camera flashes a couple of times and it’s over. It’s just that… even after the PR noona gives them a thumbs up and walks away, even after the other members have dispersed to various corners of the practice room, Jimin doesn’t move. Instead, he leans in further against Yoongi’s chest, burying his face against the crook of Yoongi’s neck, and breathes out a tired sigh. Yoongi’s body is aflame at each point of contact between them, his heart is pounding a mile a minute, but even so, his fingers grip tighter at Jimin’s waist. He drops his cell phone beside them on the couch and wraps his other arm snugly around the boy in his lap. “Tired?” Yoongi mumbles. His voice is low enough that only Jimin can hear him. Jimin nods against his shoulder but doesn’t give a verbal response. Yoongi carefully slides them off the armrest of the couch and settles back against the cushions, Jimin still seated on his left thigh, their legs tangled together. “You’ve worked hard,” Yoongi murmurs. He cards a hand through Jimin’s wheat blond hair. Jimin once again offers no words in reply, but a moment later Yoongi feels the soft press of lips against his throat, right over his pulse point. The kiss leaves his skin positively buzzing and warmth blossoms both in his chest and over his cheeks within seconds. Yoongi drops his forehead down on Jimin’s shoulder in a weak attempt at hiding his embarrassment even as his arms tighten around Jimin’s midsection. The pair of them doze off like that, comeback exhaustion finally overtaking them, and they rouse only when Sejin hyung lets them know it’s time to head back to the dorm.
They get about a week off after the repackage promotions end, and it’s the first time they’ve been given time off all year – between dropping three separate albums, and preparing for Festa and a world tour, they just haven’t been able to fit any down time into their schedule. Yoongi spends most of the week at home with his family, whom he hasn’t seen all year. The break is to double as both an opportunity to catch-up with their loved ones, and also as a goodbye before Bangtan’s world tour starts, which will keep them out of the country for a couple of months. It’s weird not being around Jimin all the time – he’s kind of gotten used to having the dancer near him at any given moment – but home is nice, familiar. It’s the first time Yoongi’s back since The Incident™, and his mother seems to know just how much of a toll it’s taken on him, because she wordlessly gathers him into her arms the moment he walks through the door. Yoongi and Jimin don’t talk much over the break, though Jimin does send him a couple of photos from the seaside, separate from the picture spam he’s inundated the Bangtan group chat with. Yoongi sends over a couple of shots of Holly in exchange and he can’t help the gummy smile that stretches across his lips at the heart eyes emoji-filled message he gets in reply. And while the break is nice, Yoongi would be lying if he said he’s not glad to return to the dorm at the end of it. Jimin smothers him with hugs and a couple of wet smooches to his cheeks the moment he walks through the door. Maybe Yoongi wasn’t the only one who’d felt a sense of loss at being away all week.
They’re on tour in London at the end of the summer. It’s been about eight concerts across two continents already with the same setlist and the same rehearsed fanservice. Bangtan has done great so far, racking up praise and making celebrity connections in every different country they have visited. They’re riding the highs that come with being able to perform in front of scores of their fans, and everything is going off without a hitch. But London is different – Jimin falls in London. And this time it’s not one of his usual tumbles. This time, he doesn’t get back up right away. He sits on the floor of the stage for two beats, then three, as if in a daze. It’s not until Namjoon breaks formation and pulls him carefully to his feet that he seems to realize what’s happened and begins dancing again. The members retreat backstage after the song ends, but when the next song, the last song, starts, Jimin doesn’t come back out with them. Yoongi knows Jimin will be harder on himself than any of their managers or dance instructors will, so he isn’t at all surprised when the boy knocks quietly on the connecting door between their hotel rooms at two in the morning that night. He hangs out in the doorframe once Yoongi gives him permission to come in, and he waits there so long that eventually Yoongi sits up in his bed and turns on his bedside lamp. “C’mere,” Yoongi says, holding his arms open. Jimin moves forward and folds into Yoongi’s chest just as a couple of stray tears make their way down his face. Neither of them say anything – Yoongi knows Jimin doesn’t need platitudes like “It’s okay,” and “No one blames you,” – that letting him cry it out and sleep on it will do more good than artificial words of comfort. And cry he does. Jimin settles between Yoongi’s legs and cries himself into a fitful sleep as Yoongi cards a hand gently through his hair. When Yoongi wakes up in the morning, Jimin is gone.
The next stop on their tour is two shows in Paris, which go off without any further issues. Jimin is back to form, dancing hard and practicing as often as possible, even at the expense of taking time to explore the city on their one free day. Yoongi doesn’t bother trying to get him to rest because he knows it’s pointless – Jimin is more of a perfectionist than anyone else in the group and his fall in London will stay with him for the duration of the tour. Another change that stays with them after London is Jimin sleeping in Yoongi’s bed. The fact that they’re given connecting rooms at every hotel they stay at is helpful in accomplishing this. Yoongi is only surprised the first couple of times, – especially when Jimin doesn’t try to come up with excuses for seeking him out – but it soon becomes so routine that he finds it hard to sleep on the nights when Jimin doesn’t come to him. He wonders how things will be when they’re not on tour anymore.
Eventually, the tour does end and they return home to Seoul just in time for the end-of-year awards and music shows. Nothing much changes, really, apart from the fact that Jimin and Yoongi don’t share a bed anymore. Maybe it’s the familiarity of home, but the absence of a warm body beside him each night is somehow easier to deal within the comfort of his own bedroom. The whole group falls back into an easy dynamic, even though there’s a clear shift in the way Yoongi and Jimin interact with each other which betrays a closeness that wasn’t there before. They’re at dinner one night. A rare evening where the whole group finds time to sit down for a meal together. It’s a family restaurant down the street from their dorm – the usual place they order food from but never have time to actually visit. It’s busy so the owner ahjusshi provides them with a private room near the back, away from prying eyes and ears. They’re on their third round of beers (coke for Taehyung, somaek for Jimin), just enough for Yoongi to feel a little lightheaded. He’s got an arm draped over the back of Jimin’s chair and his knee is warm where the younger is gripping it. No one notices how close they’re sitting, or the way Jimin keeps picking scallions out of Yoongi’s food because he knows the elder doesn’t like them. “Stop, just eat your food,” Yoongi grumbles eventually, when he notices that Jimin is spending more time putting meat in Yoongi’s bowl and picking out various ingredients Yoongi doesn’t like than on actually eating anything. “I don’t mind,” Jimin says, shooting him a small smile. Yoongi uses his chopsticks to debone a piece of fish and drops it into the younger’s bowl of rice. “But I do. Eat.” Jimin’s grin widens adorably and he pops the fish into his mouth, leaning against Yoongi’s shoulder in thanks as he does so. Before he even realizes he’s moved, Yoongi places the hand that had been on the back of Jimin’s chair over Jimin’s hand on his knee and squeezes his fingers. He tries to ignore both the churning feeling in his stomach and Seokjin hyung’s eyes boring a hole into the side of his head.
Two days after their family dinner, Namjoon finds Yoongi in the Genius Lab on a rare occasion where Jimin isn’t around. Normally, Yoongi just ignores whoever comes knocking at the studio door because everyone in the company and all of the members know he hates being bothered while he’s working. Only Jungkook and one of their managers have the code to the lock, and since the maknae is almost as much of a lone wolf as Yoongi is, he’s rarely ever interrupted. But Yoongi’s been expecting Namjoon to corner him at some point, so he doesn’t even bother hiding from him. “Hey, hyung,” Namjoon says when Yoongi swings open the door. Yoongi grunts and settles back down on his desk chair as Namjoon takes a seat on the couch. The atmosphere is a little tense, as expected, but not nearly as awkward as when Jimin had come to see him in much the same manner the first time. Yoongi waits patiently for Namjoon to explain why he’s here (Yoongi’s not stupid – he knows Seokjin put him up to it, but Namjoon isn’t one to be rushed). “So, I think we should talk about you and Jimin,” Namjoon says folding his hands together in his lap. There’s no real judgment on his face, just concern for the wellbeing of two of his members. “Right,” says Yoongi. He waits again. “Are you and Jimin… Do you –” Namjoon cuts himself off, apparently dissatisfied with his choice of words. He takes a deep breath and starts over. “Are you in love with Jimin?” Yoongi groans out loud. “Love is a really strong word for the way I feel about Jimin, Joon-ah,” he says. He knows he’s being unfair by not giving an honest answer, but Namjoon needs to understand this isn’t easy for Yoongi. “Fine. Do you have feelings of the not-so-friendly kind for Jimin?” Namjoon asks, patient as ever. Yoongi and Namjoon have lived together for eight years, longer than he’s lived with any of the other members of Bangtan. Apart from Hoseok, no one knows him better or understands him as well as Namjoon does. So, when Yoongi hedges again by muttering, “What the fuck does that even mean, ‘feelings of the not-so-friendly kind’?” Namjoon just rolls his eyes, apparently having expected Yoongi to be difficult. “Can’t you just be straight for once, hyung?” Yoongi scoffs. “Yeah, that’s not likely, all things considered.” Namjoon grimaces, realizing once again his poor choice of words. “Fair enough. But you know what I mean.” “Yeah, okay, so I might have a thing for the kid. What’s it to you?” Yoongi says finally, and maybe it’s not only the first time he’s admitting such a thing out loud but also the first time he’s admitting it to himself. He swallows thickly, waiting for Namjoon’s reaction with bated breath. “Oh, I don’t know… apart from being your best friend, I’m also the leader of the biggest boyband on the planet, so I guess I should probably know if two of my members are dating, right?” Namjoon replies. He levels Yoongi with a glare for his petulance to which Yoongi smiles weakly in response and scratches the back of his neck. “Bold of you to assume you’re my best friend,” Yoongi says, but he knows he’s trying Namjoon’s endless patience at this point, so he confesses, “We’re not dating. Not even close.” “You seemed pretty damn cozy at dinner the other night. Are you sure Jimin doesn’t think you’re dating?” It’s Yoongi’s turn to glare. “We’re not dating.” Namjoon holds up his hands in surrender. “Fine, fine. I give. Just – I know this whole situation has been hard on you and I don’t want you to get hurt,” he says. And then, biting his lip, he adds, “But I don’t want Jiminie to get hurt, either, hyung. You understand what I’m trying to say, right?” “Yeah – ‘don’t fuck it up.’ Got it,” Yoongi says. He leans forward in his chair, resting his elbows on his knees and peers over at Namjoon with what he hopes is sincerity in his eyes. His voice is much softer when he speaks again. “I care about him too, Joon-ah. Before any of this, he’s my dongsaeng and friend. I’d never forgive myself for hurting him.” Namjoon nods. “Yeah, I know. I love you both and I just want you guys to be happy – whether that’s together or… not together.” Yoongi leans back in his chair and folds his hands behind his head. He throws a knowing smirk at Namjoon and asks, “So, how much did hyung pay you to come over here and talk to me?” He takes immense satisfaction in the way Namjoon’s cheeks and ears darken in a deep blush.
By the time Yoongi gets home that night, after going out for a couple of drinks with Namjoon, everyone else has already made it back to the dorm. Jimin, Hoseok, and Seokjin hyung are settled in one of the sitting rooms watching a movie, and Yoongi can hear the sounds of Taehyung and Jungkook in their shared living room playing Overwatch. When he spots him in the doorway, Jimin smiles at Yoongi and scoots over to make room for him on the couch. Normally, Yoongi would just go straight to bed after a long day in the studio like he’s had today, but there’s something about the way Jimin grins at him that keeps him rooted to the spot. Jimin cocks his head after a couple of seconds, chuckling a little, and then makes grabby hands at Yoongi in a clear show of “c’mere.” That’s all he needs. Yoongi unravels his scarf, takes off his coat and beanie, and drops down against the cushions. He stretches an arm out over the back of the couch, and in no time at all, Jimin has melted into his side. He settles one small hand over Yoongi’s knee and then buries his face against the crook of Yoongi’s neck to drop a butterfly kiss against his pulse point. Yoongi sighs. He stares blankly at the television, wondering absently what movie is playing but sufficiently distracted by the way Jimin’s blond hair tickles his chin as the boy remains tucked against him, nosing at Yoongi’s throat. “Did you eat dinner, hyung?” Jimin mumbles eventually, settling his head against Yoongi’s shoulder. He pushes his index finger back and forth over Yoongi’s leg as he continues without waiting for an answer. “Did you go out for drinks? You smell like soju.” Yoongi nods, swallowing the lump in his throat. “Namjoon stopped by at the studio and we went out to eat.” Jimin hums. Their hushed conversation is loud enough for Hoseok to realize someone else has joined their movie night (Seokjin hyung is passed out beside him), but the dancer doesn’t even bat an eyelash at the way Jimin is pressed up against Yoongi. He rolls his eyes, flapping a hand in ‘hello,’ and then turns back to the TV. Namjoon’s question from earlier comes back to Yoongi as he considers Hoseok’s nonchalance. Are you and Jimin dating? While the resounding “no,” Yoongi gave Namjoon is the truth, as he sits there with Jimin’s warmth bleeding into his tired body and the tension of the day lifts from his shoulders, he can’t help but wish he’d had a different answer to give.
The end-of-year music shows are as overdone and flashy as they always are, and it’s a shame that none of them can be avoided now that the networks are slating the events around Bangtan’s schedule. The frenzy of the season is more exhausting than any comeback, and the only thing that helps Yoongi get through it is Jimin’s constant presence beside him. A handful more daesangs are given a home in their trophy room and Gayodaechukje is over by the time Yoongi finds himself able to lay down for a proper rest. It’s been a while since the last time he was able to completely relax, but the agency has given them a few days to go visit family again before they leave on the Japan leg of their tour, so he plans on using the time off to its fullest. He hopes Jimin will visit him tonight, but doesn’t really expect him to, so it’s a bit of a surprise when a knock sounds at his bedroom door. It’s New Year’s Eve, and normally they would be at a year-end show, but now that the networks are catering to Bangtan (and not the other way around), it’s a free night for once. The members collectively decided to spend the holiday together at the dorm, drinking with each other and some of their managers, but Yoongi had begged off after a couple of hours, citing exhaustion. And so, he’s already in bed, settled against a mound of pillows and buried under the warmest down comforter he could find in his closet by the time he’s interrupted by whoever is at the door. “Come in,” Yoongi calls out. Jimin peeks in at him with a sheepish grin. Yoongi rolls his eyes even as a fond smile lifts his lips and he’s already scooting over to make room for the younger. Jimin shuffles forward and crawls in under the covers. He looks so soft and beautiful, showered and face free from any of the makeup he’d had on earlier. Yoongi’s struck again by how pretty Jimin is. “Hi, hyung,” he whispers. He’s pulled the blankets up so far that the only parts of him visible are his fluffy blond hair and wide brown eyes. “Can I help you?” Yoongi asks peering down at him. Jimin shakes his head before shuffling closer to Yoongi and dropping an arm over his stomach. Yoongi sinks down into the covers beside him. “I just wanted to say, ‘happy new year.’ It’s midnight,” Jimin says. He nuzzles against the crook of Yoongi’s neck like he always does, and with only centimeters between them, Yoongi can smell the alcohol on his breath. “Ahh. Happy new year, Jimin-ah,” Yoongi says. Jimin’s lips against his jugular are almost unbearably warm, so he scoots back a little bit as his heart pounds in his chest. Jimin is staring at him with hooded eyes and a frown. “What’s wrong?” Yoongi shakes his head, swallowing thickly. “Nothing. Did you have fun at the party?” Jimin snuggles closer and hums. “Yeah, you should have stayed a bit longer. We missed you at the countdown.” “Oh?” “Yeah.” Yoongi closes his eyes and they lay in silence for a few moments, only the muted sounds of the party downstairs offering any distraction. “Hyung?” Yoongi opens his eyes surprised to find the dancer is leaning over him with flushed cheeks and an uncertain expression on his face. There’s no time to process what’s happening before Jimin’s lips are pressed against his. They’re as soft and plush as they look and Yoongi reaches up, unsure what to do. But it’s over before it even really starts, and by the time Yoongi regains his bearings, Jimin has his face buried in his pillow, the tips of his ears burning bright pink. His fingers are clutched around the front of Yoongi’s shirt and that’s the only remaining point of contact between them. Yoongi curls his hand around Jimin’s fist. “Jimin-ah…” Jimin shakes his head. “No,” he mumbles into the pillow. “Okay.” Yoongi manages to slide an arm under Jimin’s shoulders and he brings the boy against his chest. His heart is hammering in his ribcage and his own cheeks must be bright pink, but all he can think about as he stares up at his bedroom ceiling with an overheated Park Jimin snuggled into his side is how glad he is that he hadn’t been too lazy to brush his teeth tonight. “Okay.”
By the time Yoongi wakes up in the morning, Jimin is gone. But not just gone as in “two rooms down the hall to his bedroom” gone. Gone as in, “back home to Busan” gone. Yoongi’s stomach drops. He hadn’t expected much after Jimin had refused to talk to him last night, but he also hadn’t expected, well, this. He spends the morning in somewhat of a daze, unable to get the feeling of Jimin’s lips against his out of his mind. In fact, he’s so distracted that he almost forgets he’s scheduled to leave for home today. It’s not until he’s scolded by Seokjin hyung for not being ready when the car arrives that he realizes he hasn’t even packed yet. He stuffs enough clothes for the week-long trip into a random duffle bag and rushes out of the dorm. The car ride home is just long enough for him to do plenty of worrying about what’s going to happen when they all get back from their break. Jimin hasn’t contacted him all day, and from what Hoseok had told him that morning, he’s not due to come back to Seoul until a few days after Yoongi gets back to the dorm. That means more than a week without seeing him. Yoongi doesn’t know if he’ll be able to last that long without spontaneously combusting. He’s got his cell phone practically glued to his hand all day and the worry must show on his face because his parents needle him with questions the moment he steps through the door. It’s not until after dinner that night that he finally, finally hears from Jimin. Relief shoots through him the moment he reads the boy’s name on his phone screen and he frantically opens the message. Hi, hyung. I’m sorry for ducking out without saying goodbye this morning. I didn’t mean anything by it, honest… but I think we need to talk, don’t you? Let’s go somewhere, just us, when we get back from break. Oh, and hyung? Saranghaeyo, you know that, right? I really, really do. Have a safe holiday at home <3 Yoongi stares down at his phone for a long while, unsure how to respond – which parts to respond to. As he continues to deliberate, his phone buzzes again. Hyung… I feel like I need to clarify something. I don’t regret what I did last night. I just need you to know that. And, as is always the case when Jimin does anything, the tangled knots in Yoongi’s heart unravel, the discontentment in his mind dissipates, and he’s finally able to relax. He breathes out a long sigh in relief and types back a message. Don’t worry, we’ll talk when you get back. Tell your family hyung says hi. Ahh, and… I love you, too, you know that.
The break passes in a blur of apprehension and anticipation and before he knows it, Yoongi is shuffling back into the dorm, arms laden with food from his mother for the other members. Roused by the clatter Yoongi’s making as he unpacks all his presents in the kitchen, Taehyung peeks his head through the doorway curiously. “Welcome back, hyung,” he says. “Thanks, kid,” Yoongi says, glancing back at him briefly. Taehyung has a sleepy pout on his face that makes him look much younger than he is, but it’s endearing and Yoongi can’t help but smile at him a little. “Are you the only one back so far?” Yoongi asks as Taehyung sits down at the kitchen table. He blinks blearily at Yoongi, his chin propped up in his hand, and shakes his head. “No, Kookie just got back.” Yoongi pauses at that, frowning. “Kookie came back alone?” Taehyung’s lips split into a mischievous grin. He raises a brow at Yoongi and asks, “And why do you want to know that, hyung?” “Don’t be a brat. There’s no chance he didn’t tell you… put me out of my misery, huh?” Taehyung chuckles. “I didn’t know you had it in you to be so cute, hyung.” He pauses, milking the moment for all it’s worth and Yoongi wants to take back the whole conversation. Finally, Taehyung’s face softens and he says, “He had to stay an extra night for a thing his little brother is doing. He’ll be back tomorrow.” “Right.” There’s a long moment of silence, but Yoongi has a feeling Taehyung has more to say. He waits patiently for the younger to gather his thoughts. “He does really like you, you know?” he says at last, sighing. His voice is low and soft, laced with utter fondness for his best friend. “Please, just… be nice to him, okay? He’s literally the best person I know and he… he deserves the whole world.” Yoongi stops pretending to be busy with his unpacking and makes his way over to the table to take a seat across from Taehyung. The singer’s eyes are shining brightly, but his mouth is turned down in an apprehensive frown. “Taehyung-ah,” he starts, “he… he makes me happy. I kept saying he made me feel better in front of the camera, and that’s true, but the reason why that is is because… when he’s around me, the whole world just kind of… stops, and every thought in my mind disappears to make room for him. He does deserve the world, you’re right, and if I could give him the whole world, I would. But all I can really do is promise to take care of him and try to make him as happy as he makes me.” Yoongi’s face must be the color of a tomato by now, but he needs Taehyung to understand him, to have faith in him. His assurances seem to work, because Taehyung reaches across the table and puts his hand over Yoongi’s. “Never knew you could be such a fluffball, either, hyung. I’m learning all sorts of things about you today,” Taehyung says. His lips split into his characteristic boxy smile and Yoongi groans. “You’re the worst.”
The next day, Yoongi tries not to spend the whole morning agonizing over Jimin’s impending arrival. He busies himself by going to the Genius Lab to work on a couple of songs for which he’s got deadlines approaching, but it’s all mostly just a ruse, because even music can’t get his mind off the dancer today. He’s about ready to call it quits when he hears the lock on the door shift. Not even a second later, Yoongi’s wrapped up in a hug from behind and Jimin’s signature cologne invades his senses. Every ounce of worry that’s made a home in his stomach all week dissipates instantly as Jimin presses his cheek against Yoongi’s. “Hi,” he breathes out. “Hi, hyung.” He turns his face into Yoongi’s shoulder and presses a kiss there, and then another against the apple of Yoongi’s cheek. His heart is thudding irratically in his chest. It feels as though they’re reuniting after years of being apart rather than just a few days – almost doesn’t know how to behave. But as always, Jimin knows just what to do. He spins Yoongi around in his desk chair so that they’re finally facing each other and, mouth turned up in a big, beautiful grin, he leans down to put their foreheads together. “I missed you.” If Yoongi could find it within himself to string a whole sentence together he’d say Me too. Alas, he’s completely tongue-tied, so he allows himself to be dragged out of his chair and over to the couch. Jimin sits down close beside him, so close that their legs are pressed up against each other, and takes Yoongi’s hand in his. He flattens his own palm against Yoongi’s, seemingly fascinated by the size difference, before twining their fingers together. He giggles momentarily and his cheeks redden as he says, “Ahh, I missed you so much, hyung.” Yoongi brings their locked hands up to his mouth to drop a kiss against Jimin’s knuckles. He takes a deep breath, swallowing his own hesitance, and mumbles, “I missed you too, Jiminie.” They’re silent again for a few moments, just basking in the feeling of being together again, but Yoongi knows this is a conversation that’s been a long time coming. “Jimin-ah –” “Yoongi hyung –” Jimin laughs. He leans his head down on Yoongi’s shoulder and lets out a content sigh. “You first, hyung.” Yoongi’s heart is still pounding in his chest as it always does in the younger’s presence when they’re alone together and he wonders absently if Jimin can hear it. He stares down at their interlocked hands for a long while, just trying to make sense of all the chaos in his head. “Jimin-ah… I just – before anything else, I want to say thank you and that I’m sorry,” he says finally. “This year’s been… well, you know how it’s been. I don’t know what I would have done without you.” Yoongi can feel Jimin’s smile against his shoulder. “You don’t have to thank me, hyung.” “I do. You’ve done so much for me –” Clicking his tongue in dissatisfaction, the dancer lifts his head. He untangles his fingers from Yoongi’s and settles his hand firmly over Yoongi’s knee so as to make his intentions clear. “Hyung – I like you.” Yoongi swallows and immediately feels his cheeks heat up. He covers Jimin’s hand with his own. “I – You know how I feel, don’t you?” Jimin nods. “I’m sorry,” Yoongi whispers. “You’ve been… You deserve so much and I just…” Jimin suddenly slides off the couch to crouch down in front of him. He cups Yoongi’s cheek with one hand and tangles their fingers together again with the other. His eyes are bright and his cheeks are pink, but he smiles softly in a way that says “It’s okay.” He’s so, so incredibly beautiful that Yoongi loses his breath for a moment. “You keep apologizing… as if you’re dragging me along against my will. But I need you to understand that that’s not it at all. Apart from all that’s happened recently, you’re first and foremost one of my best friends, you know? We’re practically family, hyung. I’d do anything to make you – any of you – happy.” “I know,” Yoongi sighs. “I feel like I’m taking advantage of that.” Jimin runs his thumb over the apple of Yoongi’s cheek. The coolness of his rings is a welcome respite from the warmth of his own blush. Yoongi stutters out another long sigh. “That’s where you have it wrong, hyung,” Jimin says, gripping Yoongi’s fingers a little more tightly with his other hand. “I need you, too. I always have.” Yoongi’s eyes widen just a fraction. He leans into Jimin’s palm against his cheek and Jimin smiles that pretty little smile of his that doesn’t quite crinkle his eyes but makes them brighter, that doesn’t quite puff out his cheeks but makes them a little bit pinker. Yoongi doesn’t know what to say. He’s always been shit at sweeping romantic gestures – can’t really express himself unless it’s through music, can’t initiate skinship as well as the others do – but Jimin is watching him with a soft, fond expression on his face that speaks volumes for them both. “Jimin-ah…” Yoongi starts, and his voice cracks even over that one word. He closes his eyes, disappointed that he was able to talk to Taehyung just yesterday with so much conviction but can’t do the same now. But as always, Jimin is there to calm his nerves and settle the discontentment in his mind. Yoongi revels in the warmth of the younger’s small hand cupped around his jaw. “It’s okay. It’s always okay,” Jimin whispers. “I already know.” When he opens his eyes again, Jimin is there before him, so striking, so beautiful, as though he’s too good for the world. As though he belongs on some other plane more deserving of his magnificence. And Yoongi’s reminded again of the words he’d offered Taehyung the day before. When he’s around me, the whole world just kind of… stops, and every thought in my mind disappears to make room for him, he’d said. And in this moment, he can’t fathom an existence in which Jimin isn’t by his side. He can’t imagine going through this life without feeling the relief he feels when Jimin smiles at him, or when Jimin kisses him. He can’t… he won’t. “You can’t imagine how much you mean to me,” he says. Jimin smiles, his eyes closing with the force of his happiness. He leans up, bracing himself against the couch on either side of Yoongi and kisses him once, twice, then a third time, soundly and deeply and Yoongi doesn’t think he’s ever felt so calm.

Musings of an Immigrant (4)
Imagine, much like broccoli arranged bouquet-style in a vase, this is the memory I carry from the last meal of my first around the world experience.
Once Around the Globe / October 26, 2018
The first time I circumnavigated the globe was on a 32-day trip in support of a theme I advanced for an American Express annual report…essentially to document through interviews and photography the global reach of the company.
The high was self-evident. Here I was 28-years old, visiting countries far and wide that I had never been to before, and in some cases since, while interviewing notable people in every facet of careers and professions. The low was a bit of a personal quirk, perhaps an emotional impetus that could have been put under better control: In short, I didn’t want to miss the first steps of my first born son, an event that was going to fall sometime during the month-long trip.
The first stop was Paris, France, where the banking, travel, credit card, and travelers check divisions of the company were huge business. The photographer I retained to travel with me and document the events of the trip was Eva Rubinstein, daughter of Arthur Rubinstein, the celebrated pianist. It was fortuitous that on the night we arrived he was being honored with a reception complete with all the expected fanfare of the rich and famous. At the time I smoked cigars, a bad habit I got into as a result of being around the company boardroom with its complimentary supply. Rubenstein not only smoked them but had his own farm and fabrication facility in Cuba at the time. My meeting with him was not much more then ano introduction and his request that I take good care of his daughter during the long trip. He was also gracious enough to give me a box of his Cuban cigars, emblazoned with his personal cigar band. As much as I welcomed the gesture, I was aware that I had to finish smoking the full box prior to returning to the U.S. because the land-of-Castro product was considered contraband by the U.S. government.
To represent American Express International Banking relationships I focused on Claude Lelouch, the then very famous French film director, writer, cinematographer, actor and producer, with whose company the bank did business. At the time, Lelouch was known in America for his 1966 film drama “A Man and a Woman,” and “Live for Life” in 1967. Now that a lifetime has gone by, I am not in the least embarrassed to say that I was very impressed to be interviewing one of the most celebrated ‘fellow’ creatives (hope is eternal) in his palatial digs, sitting facing each other on wingback chairs, and taking in the mesmerizing Parisian landscape.
Next came Spain where I was scheduled to focus on the activity of American Express’ travel division. So, what better than Costa Del Sol. But first I stopped in Barcelona, so after the magic of this city, the beach scene was a bit of a letdown. Rather than a slice of the Spanish population this region was more a mixture of other European nationalities than Spanish. For a local fix I went into the hills to a town called Benalmádena where I very unexpectedly ended having a meal at a private house. Memory fails, but when asking where I should eat, a local denizen suggested knocking on a particular door and the lady of the house would take care of me. It was very much the case. The then seemingly older lady who answered the door was very accommodating. She asked what I liked to eat and within the half hour she was back from wherever she needed to go to procure local fish and accompaniments. Perhaps it was the unplanned event and local fair, but the memory of the meal makes me salivate to this day.
Yugoslavia, specifically Belgrade in Serbia, and Dubrovnik in Croatia, as guests of the General Director of Star Travel, the then-communist state’s travel monopoly, was my host. Two impressions: Belgrade — grey. Dubrovnik — haunting, a perfect little Venice, except in miniature and less tourists. But most impressing was the state’s largess showered on me and my photographer in the way of entertainment and first class travel…all at the people’s expense of course.
When I arrived in Greece, the country was under the control of a Military Junta (1967–1974), headed by a group of 4 colonels of the Greek army and led by a man named George Papadopoulos. At one point I arranged to visit the Parthenon on the Athenian Acropolis. For a major tourist site, the place was fairly deserted on that day and provided the perfect setting for taking photos. As one would expect of a professional photographer, Rubinstein was shooting everything in sight. Suddenly, a convoy of sedans comes rushing in and a squad of military uniform-clad individuals step out. The photographer must have found the scene to be not only interesting but especially intriguing because she continued to shoot in their direction. This caused us some grief. We were quickly surrounded by security personnel fully equipped with nasty looking weaponry. In a nutshell, they took issue with the concept of us photographing military brass without permission…an act bordering on espionage. After some interrogation, and a period of heightened anxiety, they confiscated the film and we were let go.
India of the early seventies was a different kettle of fish from the driving, capitalistic society it is today. The following two episodes encapsulates the country of that time.
Once we deboarded and attempted to go through customs, literally in the middle of the night in ambient temperature that was well over a hundred degrees farenheit and no air-conditioning, we encountered Indian logic in its purest form. This event took place before the advent of digital photography, so the photographer was carrying hundreds of rolls of camera film, both exposed and unexposed. Now imagine a local customs officer speaking sternly in Indian English. Officer: “What is your visit’s purpose?” Me, and keep in mind that we did not have a work visa: “To see the sights.” Officer: “So why do you need so many rolls of photography film?” Me: “Because I work for American Express and might use some photos acquired on the trip in company publications.” Officer: “So, to be clear, you are not tourists but rather working on a photography assignment and you have no work visa to do so.”
It had become clear over the ensuing six hours, during which the full inventory of film, both exposed and otherwise, having been placed in a walk-in vault that was hot enough to fry an egg on any metal surface within it, that most imported products were controlled under some sort of business monopoly system. Photography film was no different and whoever held the import license needed to collect their pound of flesh. As tourists, people could bring in a few rolls of film without any issue, but in the quantities that we were carrying to satisfy the needs of the whole trip, it qualified as illegal import. In the end, with the help of local American Express support team, and a monetary contribution that could feed a small village in that part of the world for many months, we were allowed to keep our contraband.
The ordeal we had just experienced was quickly forgotten once we were being driven away from the airport towards our destination, Bombay, now Mumbai, because of yet another Indian oddity. The spectacle was seeing sections of large-diameter drainage conduit over many miles along the road, for sure intended for ground burial, but unintendedly, become domiciles for thousands of families. Life looked very normal at the front and back openings of each section of the pipes that was intended for a different purpose. People were going about doing their thing… cooking, bathing, living. If we hadn’t gone through the earlier experience at the airport it would have appeared as an alternate universe and more of a curiosity.
At the time of this trip, Hong Kong was still a British Crown Colony, and since I was born in a country with similar British experience, my assumption was that Hong Kong spoke English to one degree or another. In fact, the island of Kowloon which is where the business hub was located at the time is very much the case, but on the mainland and the New Territories it was another story.
Tired of the business opulence that was being showered on me and Rubinstein by the hosts, which included being feted at The Sky Terrace and The Peak Tower, it necessitated that I take in some of the local color and taste the more local foods. So, I took off by foot to parts unknown to see the sights. When the time came, I stopped at a local restaurant to have something to eat. So, this is when I came face to face with the cultural roadblock. The menu was in Chinese and no English was spoken at all. Never fear, there’s always pantomime. Trying to help, the waiter clucked away and flapped his arms. “Chic, chic” was the recommendation to which, since I was in full comprehension mode, I promptly agreed to and ordered. In short order, with mouth-gapping, I was looking at an aluminum cooking pot heaping full of chicken feet arranged with the claws sticking up and leaning over and around the edge of the pot.
Imagine, much like broccoli arranged bouquet-style in a vase, this is the memory I carry from the last meal of my first around the world experience.

B is for Breaking and Entering
Headcanons and scenarios for Sherlock, Mycroft and Moriarty.
The prompt: In which you decide to break into your boyfriend’s home. Why? Well, why ever not?
Genre: Fluff and humor
Rating: T for illegal activities
Reader type in the scenarios: Adventurous, confident, eccentric (especially true for Jim’s scenario, haha)
SHERLOCK MASTERLIST
gifs and characters do not belong to me
Headcanons for S/O breaking into Sherlock’s apartment
Sherlock is equally confused and amused on why.
It’s cute to see you worry about him.
But please don’t bring that annoying stranger who happens to be related to him by blood into this.
That irritates him.
He’s fine.
He’s really fine.
He’s fine.
Stop worrying, please.
He wants to know how you did it. He wants you to walk him through the process and see if you spot all the security errors he already has.
He’ll set up his own security measures and challenge you to try again.
Succeed and he’ll make it harder. It’ll turn into a game. Fail and he’ll firmly believe he’s proven his point that he’s fine.
(But thank you for worrying not that he would ever say it out loud)
Sherlock Scenario
One day you decided to break into Sherlock's home.
Because why not?
You waited until late at night on a night that Sherlock and John were currently out and about on some fantastic case. You carefully bided your time until you were certain Mrs Hudson was sound asleep and no one would be up and about to see your nightly antics.
You first tried picking the lock because Youtube made it look easy.
It was not easy.
You gave up on that about ten minutes in and then headed towards the front window.
It was alarmingly easy to wiggle an old coat hanger wire through the tiniest little hole and unlatch the window. You opened it and climbed inside the first floor.
‘That was too easy. That was seriously way too easy.’
You were understandably unsettled by how easy it was to break into your boyfriend's apartment.
‘Maybe it'll be harder actually trying to get into Sherlock's room?’
You really hoped so. Otherwise you were going to have to dedicate a weekend to revamping the security on this place (although already you were planning on getting that window fixed).
You headed up the stairs, simultaneously pleased and annoyed at how the stairs creaked loudly. On one hand you were trying to break in without getting caught, but the potential noise it made offered a bit of security so at least there was that.
Mrs Hudson did not seem to hear the noise, though.
You made it up to Sherlock's flat and you tried to pick the lock. Unsurprisingly you were not successful. You then remembered that Mrs Hudson kept spare keys around on the alarmingly frequent occasion Sherlock “lost” his, or locked John out.
‘But surely she wouldn't leave it lying around for a burglar to have easy access…’
The key was hanging on a hook back down stairs by the front door.
‘Oh, dear…’ You shook your head at such. ‘Maybe it's a fake?’
You tried the key out.
It was real.
Sherlock's flat was completely vulnerable to you.
That did not settle well with you. Nope. Not at all.
So you immediately called up Mycroft.
He picked up on the third ring. "Hello, Kitten."
You didn't bat your eye at your assigned nickname. You didn't like people using your actual name, so you insisted everyone calling you by some kind of nickname. The most common one was Kitten, but you occasionally got Robin, Pet, and Dearie. Even Puppy once from Sherlock when he made a scathing remark at your ability to always come back to him no matter how insulting he could be.
"Hello, future in law," you greeted in return. Marriage was a long ways off for Sherlock, but given that you had been together for as long as you could remember you had earned the right to call Mycroft such. You even called him big brother on occasions you really wanted to get under his skin.
Mycroft wasn't phased, though. "What is it?"
"Sherlock's apartment has alarmingly poor security," you explained. "I literally just broke in it without any fuss ten minutes ago."
"Yes, I've noticed. And?"
"And you and I need to change that. Immediately."
"Starting to feel unsafe?"
"Starting to think Sherlock's catching a lot more attention from not nice people these days," you retorted.
Mycroft made an agreeing noise. "Then what do you propose? He won't let me assist him."
"No. But he'll let you assist me."
"Mm-hmm. Well, if you can deal with his tempertantrum I can have the place properly fitted with a good security system within twenty four hours."
"And replace the windows."
"Of course."
"And the doors and locks."
"That goes without saying."
"Good. We have ourselves a deal."
Thankfully Sherlock's case took him out of town for the next couple of days so the security changes were able to implemented without a fuss. Oh you knew he was going to throw a fit when he got back, but you only had his safety in mind. He'd forgive you because he would understand the logic, even if you ended up getting help from his brother.
He'd forgive you.
Eventually.
Probably.
Hopefully.
When he did return he demanded what happened to his apartment. The new features weren’t obvious, but nothing was hidden from Sherlock’s gaze. Abashed you quietly muttered, “I broke into your apartment a couple days ago when you’n’John left.”
“You what?” John asked in surprise.
“I was bored,” you confessed. “Anyway, it was ridiculously easy. So I—I asked Mycroft to help upgrade it.”
Sherlock stared at you for a solid minute, cold blue eyes narrowed in obvious distaste. Without a word he turned around and left. He went into his bedroom and shut the door. John awkwardly shifted his weight before mumbling an apology on Sherlock’s behalf and asking if you’d like some tea.
You politely declined and moved to sit down in front of Sherlock’s door.
He didn’t come out for the rest of the night, unsurprisingly. You anticipated such, though, and with determination that came with being his girlfriend you stubbornly waited. When you inevitably dozed off sometime around 2 in the morning you were abruptly awoken by the door swinging in.
You tumbled backwards into the room and looked up at Sherlock’s dour expression. You tried for a nervous smile. “I’m sorry I upset you, but I really was only thinking about your safety. You know I—I mean you know I care about you an awful lot. You’re getting into dangerous situations and I only want you to be safe.”
He gave a short sigh. “I already know your reasons. Go to bed, you’re going to throw your back at sleeping like that.”
“I’m sorry.”
“I know.”
“Are you going to be okay with it?”
His face twitched. He was silent for a long time and you wondered if perhaps he was going to turn back around and sulk, but then he lets out a short sigh. “Something tells me you’ll only put it right back up if I take it down and my time could be better spent doing something else.”
You smiled at that.
“Don’t involve that man again, though.”
“Okay,” you agreed then yawned.
Sherlock bent down and gave you that awkward little smile he reserved for you. “Now tell me how exactly you broke in. I’ve done it a few times myself so I’m curious which path you took…”
Headcanons for S/O breaking into Mycroft’s home
If you were doing it with his blessing (for one reason or another), he’ll want to watch.
Succeed and he’ll immediately fix the security errors. He’ll thank you for pointing out the flaws.
Mycroft is not one to shirk on home security.
Especially if you’re living with him.
If you fail, he’ll still find your attempt amusing, but he’ll be pleased with his security.
Regardless he wants to see how you go about doing it so he’ll watch everything unfold on his security cameras. He may even add commentary depending on his mood and if you’re doing it with his blessing or not.
Doing it without telling him will cause some irritation. He’ll be unhappy you didn’t talk to him about it first, but as long as you and his home weren’t damaged during the endeavor he won’t dwell on it.
Be prepared for snarky comments about it though.
Mycroft Scenario
Mycroft’s home was more akin to a mansion than a house. It had a meticulously maintained yard, luxurious cars parked around the corner, and an aura of majestic elegance. Everything about it screamed blue blood, and anyone who met Mycroft wouldn’t be surprised to see what his home looked like.
When you first started staying over you had to admit to yourself it was a little intimidating. You had never been in such a tidy, well-taken care of, old, and gorgeous home.
(Then you saw his libraries and all that intimidation and worry was swept away into awe and envy.)
After so many nights sleeping over you really started to feel comfortable there. Mycroft and his servants were very accommodating to you and it wasn’t long before you started to call the place your home as well.
You had unofficially moved in there (as you still technically owned your own place in the city, but you only visited there maybe once a month) and you adored it. You loved being able to wake up with the love of your life, and occasionally even get to go to bed with him at the same time (he always made an effort to try and go to bed at the same time as you but his work made that difficult; still you appreciated the effort.) You got to eat breakfast and dinner together nearly every day; you got to randomly join him in showers and see his always surprised expression at that; you even got to pick out his ties.
Life there was grand.
Except for one teeny-tiny little issue.
Mycroft’s little brother and your good friend, Sherlock, had this inexplicable desire to break into Mycroft’s home instead of going through the front door. He also tended to do this very late at night / very early in the morning, and every time without fail you would wake up half-asleep and in full panic mode thinking a bunch of evil doers had broken into your home.
It made for amusing stories at first, but after the eleventh time it started to get a little annoying.
Enough so that you decided to actively try to make it near impossible for Sherlock to break in so he would have to go in through the front door, or call, or do anything besides give you a heart attack.
You started by adding extra locks on the doors.
Sherlock didn’t even bat an eye at them.
So you added locks to the windows.
Barely phased.
‘Is breaking into a home really that easy?’ You couldn’t imagine it would be. Mycroft’s home seemed so secure. ‘How is he doing it? Is there some sort of secret passage into this place I don’t know about?’
How did one go about breaking into a home anyway?
All you had seen in the movies were things either way too elaborate to ever happen in real life, or lock-picking. You went ahead and kindly asked Mycroft to change the locks again (and he decided to add a combination of technical locks as well as the standard key ones. He joked it might actually slow Sherlock down enough for him to get frustrated and try a different route.)
But surely there were other ways? After all Sherlock was able to do it within fifteen minutes every time.
Youtube and movies could only show you so much.
So you decided to try it for yourself. Maybe you would see something you initially didn’t think about.
Maybe there was a secret passage.
All of that had lead you to where you were tonight: trying to break into your own home with Mycroft bemusedly watching you on the security cameras.
“What’s your first move, my dear?” Mycroft asked you. You reflexively reached up to your ear piece.
You shifted your posture, thinking carefully. You had decided to do the “heist” at night, so it was a little hard to see. You had a flashlight, of course, because you weren’t trying to be sneaky about it. Right now you were trying to find the apparent holes in your security.
“Gonna circle it and see if I can find anything. Let me know if I disappear from the cameras. Maybe there’s a blind spot.”
“Of course,” Mycroft demurred.
You headed off, moving slowly and trying to see if you could find anything. You didn’t have Sherlock’s genius level of perception but you were observant. It wasn’t uncommon for you to see things others missed.
You poked the hedges, peering through them to see if you could find any magic holes into your home. There wasn’t anything terribly easy to notice as you moved around until—
“I’ve lost vision.”
You paused upon hearing Mycroft’s words and you glanced around. You were at the side of the home, opposite of the garage. You took a couple steps backwards, retracing your steps, until Mycroft’s pleasant voice filled your ears, “I see you again.”
“So there is a blind spot,” you murmured to yourself. “He must be coming in through here, somehow.”
“Very likely,” Mycroft agreed.
You experimented with the view, finding that the blind spot was about two meters wide, gaining in width the closer you drew to your home. It wouldn’t be hard for someone like Sherlock to slip into the spot and then—
And then what?
The nearest window was five meters off the ground. It would be difficult for someone like Sherlock to simultaneously hold onto that alarmingly tiny ledge while picking a lock, especially the expensive locks Mycroft invested in.
You poked at the hedges pressed to the bottom of the mansion. They were all neatly trimmed and healthy. None of them looked like they had been climbed on; there were no broken branches or an abundance of smashed leaves.
At least not until you reached the bottom of the hedges.
“Huh.” You knelt down and brushed back the bent branches. “Oh my God. I knew it!”
“Did you find something interesting?” Mycroft inquired.
You nodded before you remembered he couldn’t see you. “Yep. Hello secret passage.”
There was a pause. “You’re joking.”
You snapped off the branches and pushed back the leaves. Barely visible underneath the hedges was a tiny little wooden hatch. You weren’t surprised the gardener didn’t notice it, given how heavily concealed it was by the bottom part of the hedges. You had to use both your hands to lift up the hatch, though, and then using your flashlight you peered into the darkness below.
“It’s got a ladder. Pretty new. Sherlock probably put it in,” you observed.
“How lovely.”
“Welp. Here I go.”
You stuck the flashlight in your mouth and shimmied down into the hole. It was a tight fit going down—about eleven meters deep—but you managed. Your feet hit cobblestone and you found yourself looking into a dank, dark tunnel. There were lanterns hanging on the ceiling, but none of them were lit.
“This is the stuff of stories,” you commented, looking around. “I feel like a treasure hunter or something.”
“Where does it lead to, though?”
“Probably someplace in the cellar, given how deep we are.”
“Ah. I never installed security down there given what it was. An error of judgement on my part it would seem.”
“To be fair,” you said, “having a secret passage into your home is extremely unlikely.”
It didn’t take you long to reach the end of the tunnel where a tiny little door lead you to the cellar. It was high up on the wall of the cellar and concealed by an old tapestry. You climbed out of it and hopped down to the wooden floor, satisfied with what you had discovered. “Well, how do you want to proceed?”
“It makes for a good emergency escape route, I supposed,” Mycroft said. “Give it an upgrade and substitute the hatch for something sturdier… and fix that blind spot, of course.”
You found yourself nodding in agreement with your boyfriend. “Yeah. Heh. Let’s see if Shirley can break in now!”
“I’m sure he’ll try,” Mycroft said.
And he did.
But he didn’t succeed.
Headcanons for S/O breaking into Jim Moriarty’s penthouse
No matter how you spin it that’s impressive.
Like, wow. What a good little pet you are.
He’s genuinely impressed and bemused by you.
If you got hurt during it though he’ll be considerate enough to assist you in treating your injuries. If you got too hurt then he won’t be amused at all by your “adventure.”
Pets are meant to entertain, not kill themselves.
He wants you to walk him through your process. He wants you tell him what you think are the security errors.
He is a perfectionist; he does not want to have any errors.
He will be vexed with his head of security no matter what you say or do. His penthouse was meant to be impenetrable and the fact that you proved him wrong will simply not do, loved one or not.
This was meant to be a safe place for you. If it’s not safe then that is absolutely unacceptable. His displeasure will be known.
But good on you. Keep it up.
Moriarty Scenario
Moriarty was not a man who wasted time batting around the bush. When he wanted something, he moved to take it. Now certainly there were times where he would patiently construct convoluted and entertaining plans in order to obtain his desire; but there were an equal amount of times where he would brute force his way into taking it (not directly of course because Moriarty did not do dirty work).
When the your relationship with the criminal mastermind had reached a certain point he wanted you to move in with him. Now you had already been practically living in his penthouse with only the occasional visit to your lonely apartment, so you weren’t surprised or bothered by the idea of moving in with him. In fact, it was something you were hoping would happen soon.
He didn’t ask you, though, which wasn’t out of character.
Rather he told you casually during dinner one evening that you would be remaining in the penthouse for the foreseeable future.
His wording was ominous so you asked him to clarify.
“You will be living here from henceforth,” Moriarty explained clearly in that smooth voice of his. “No need to leave here again.”
You swallowed your food as you considered your response. “I have work.”
“You don’t need to work anymore.”
“I like my job.”
He smiled at you in a manner that reminded you of how a master might look at a pet doing an interesting trick. “That’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make.”
You shifted in your seat. You really didn’t not want to move in with him, but you worked hard to get where you were at now with your job. It felt like a waste to throw it all away. Additionally you knew what it was like being unemployed: boring. You learned the hard way early on in life that life without purpose was… uncomfortable. Working helped you stay proactive and if you no longer worked, what were you supposed to do with all that free time?
There were only so many shows one could binge watch, and so many things one could do confined to a single building.
“I’d like to move in with you,” you admitted to him, “but I’d like to keep my job. I’m willing to go down to part time, though.”
“What a nice compromise,” Moriarty commented as he took a sip of his wine. “How about no?”
“Why do you want me to stay in here indefinitely? Aside from the obvious answer that you want to spend time with me.”
Moriarty smiled charmingly. “Simple: it’s safest here. This penthouse is under my protection and no one could ever hurt you here. No one will ever touch you without my blessing. You have captured my attention well enough to warrant my protection, something I do not take lightly.”
Okay. That made sense. You understood perfectly well that Moriarty had made some extremely dangerous enemies It wasn’t a stretch to think they would use you to get to him. Following that logic it was a no brainer he would want you to stay inside his little fortress.
But something he said wiggled at the back of your mind.
“No one?” You repeated his words with a smile. “So what you’re saying is it’s impossible for anyone to break into here?”
“That should go without saying, pet.”
Your smile widened.
‘Oh this could get interesting,’ you thought to yourself.
“Okay,” you purred. “I’ll move in with you, but I’d like it to be this coming weekend instead of tonight. There are arrangements I’d really like to make in person. Surely you can give me a few days? Please?”
Moriarty tilted his head, his dark eyes looking you over as he considered your request.
“I’ll make it worth your while,” you added, your smile stretching over your face as you thought of your brilliant plan. “I bet I can make you laugh this week.”
That manic grin stretched over his face. “Mm. Okay. After Saturday you’ll remain here.”
“Deal!” You couldn’t resist chirping out that response.
So of course you decided to break into the penthouse after that, because why wouldn’t you?
(No one sane dated Moriarty and kept his attention for so long, but that’s okay no one here is judging you.)
The penthouse was definitely difficult to break into. It was stacked with guards, high-level security tech, surveillance everywhere, and lots and lots of weapons. Everyone who worked there was thoroughly vetted and 100% loyal to Moriarty (or at least to the point where they understood taking their own life rather than helping the enemy was the kinder alternative to betraying him.) There was no way to infiltrate it through them.
If you were going to break into Moriarty’s penthouse there were only two ways:
Option one: Cybertech genius. If you were one helluva hacker you could probably pass yourself off as a potential client. You could set up an online reputation, build yourself, make official looking documents, and go in through the front door. You would only have access to the mid-levels before you would have to disable security and sneak past the human guards up to the penthouse. That’d still be ridiculously tricky, though.
Which left option two, and arguably the more fun option: base-jumping. Crazy illegal, borderline insane, and absolutely no way to be predicted.
What a perfect plan.
On the day before you had to move in with Moriarty you decided to invite your bodyguards for some lunch. It was easy to slip them some sedatives and using the cash Moriarty gave you as an allowance you rented a personal plane to fly over the penthouse. When the plane was over the penthouse you would jump out in your air gliding suit and hopefully land on the penthouse.
One did not date Moriarty without being a risk taker.
What really made this extra funny was that you knew he would be looking for you about now.
The guards should have been awake for a few hours by that point. They would have told him you were missing. He would have checked all his GPS tracking bugs he planted on you (which you left behind).
He would likely be under the impression that you were kidnapped / in danger and would be slowly losing his mind looking for you.
And instead you would be breaking into his penthouse, waiting patiently in your room for him to notice you were there whole time.
His face… would be… priceless.
You really couldn’t resist cackling out loud.
He really brought out the mischievous side in you. Truly he had only himself to blame for enabling your pranks early on in your friendship.
You had also already left the penthouse patio door unlocked and open for you so you wouldn’t have to worry about tripping the security system when you went in.
Jumping out of the plane was thrilling, undoubtedly. With a thank you and a bow towards your generous pilot you leapt out of plane and soared through the air. You had only gone skydiving and base jumping a few times (all without your consent during one of Moriarty’s schemes, but you got over it… mostly).
With no amount of incredible luck you managed to land on the roof of the penthouse.
Of course you did not land with perfect grace. You tumbled and rolled, somersaulting several times over until you hit the roof wall. Your suit was scrapped up and you were thoroughly bruised and scratched, but the sheer satisfaction of executing a plan well kept the pain at bay and a smile on your face. You rolled back up, wincing when you realized you twisted your ankles when you landed.
You would definitely be feeling it in the morning, but that would all be entirely worth it upon seeing Moriarty’s face at the fact that you broke into his precious penthouse.
With glee you dropped down from the roof and onto the patio. Unsurprisingly the back door was opened—how you left it that morning—and you hurried inside. You practically ran into your room (okay, wobbled because ow ow ow) and started to make yourself comfortable as you waited for Jim to return.
You didn’t have to wait too long.
About an hour and a half later you heard the doors slam open from the front of the level. You could feel the barely restrained murderous air around your boyfriend as he gracefully (because Moriarty did not stomp) entered his penthouse suit. You could vaguely hear hissed words of anger as he neared the bedroom.
‘Probably on the phone.’
Then the double doors to your shared bedroom swung open and Moriarty immediately noticed you laying on your bed in an air gliding suit with a silly grin on your face.
The unchecked emotions flickering across his face were as priceless as you anticipated: First outrage, followed by confusion and bewilderment, then realization, then irritation, then bafflement, and finally exasperation. He stared at you, eyebrows raised and momentarily speechless.
Moriarty tossed his phone aside and strolled into the room with narrowed eyes. “You… ran away from my guards only to then break into my penthouse, which you can easily enter whenever you want?”
“Yeah,” you answered with a giggle. “I broke into your impenetrable fortress!”
“You injured yourself to… prove a point?”
“Mostly to see your face. It was 100% worth it.”
Then a uncharacteristic snort escaped the handsome man and he shook his head, chuckling. He was smiling, clearly amused by your antics. That familiar mad gleam entered his eyes and you knew you would likely be in for a punishment later tonight by causing him worry; but you had a feeling the punishment would be equally rewarding given that you were able to make him genuinely laugh. “Well done, pet. I honestly wasn’t expecting this. You have thoroughly caught me off guard.”
You beamed at his praise—because truly it was—and said, “Yay! I’m ready to move in with you now.”
“Of course you are.”

The ultimate Small GPS Tracker for locating your loved ones quickly, easily and economically. Ideal for Dementia / Elderly, Kids, Cars + more.MORE INFO: http. Wonbo GPS Tracking Smart Watches. Here, the GPS tracking system incorporated in the smart.
One of our most successful articles here at Smartwatches is our list of the best smartwatches for children. That list contains a wide variety of devices, from entertainment wearables to full-on GPS tracking watches for kids.
Strapping a wearable with tracking support to your child’s wrist makes a lot of sense, especially when it allows you to monitor their current location and habits in real-time.
In the past, it was perfectly acceptable to allow your children free roam of the neighborhood without supervision. Parents would usually set a dinner curfew, and children were expected to return at the appropriate time.
The world isn’t so forgiving anymore; at least it sure doesn’t seem to be. Every day we hear stories about children being abducted, going missing, or being involved in some kind of accident. As a parent, you can never be too safe with your child.
Features such as geofencing are becoming popular methods parents use to ensure the whereabouts of their child.
That’s why we’re going to take a look at some of the best GPS tracking watches for kids.
Some things to note first:
There are not truly “tamper-proof” models, it seems. Most include a silicone band that can be easily removed. Some of the devices have tamper alerts to let you know if the child – or someone else – tries to remove it, but nothing stops them from doing so.
Pay attention to the GPS limitations. If the device is SIM-enabled and has an active subscription, it can usually be tracked anywhere, even internationally. If the device does not connect to mobile networks, the range is going to be severely limited.
Identify the features you want most, which are most important to you and your family, and go from there. Some devices sacrifice features to make room for others. For example, if you want to track your child’s location no matter where they are, without fear of range limits, you’ll need to pay the cash for a wireless subscription. In this case, that might mean your budget will suffer more than expected.
A “water-resistant” rating rarely means waterproof. In most cases, it’s not safe to submerge water-resistant devices, nor is it safe to go swimming, take a bath, or get in the shower with them. Be responsible.
Android and iOS are the most common smartphones supported when it comes to companion apps. If you have another type of phone – or an out-of-date model – you might want to consider an upgrade.
An overwhelming majority of these devices are crowdfunded through platforms like Kickstarter or IndieGoGo. This means people have the opportunity to financially back and support a project before it’s commercially available. For whatever reason, sometimes these projects fail, and the devices are not released. We do our best to keep you updated, but just be aware of this.
We’ve done our best to choose safe, family-friendly devices that have a good reputation. Sometimes, there’s just not enough info. This is where we rely on you – our community – to weigh in with your experiences as you have done in the past. Thank you.
The Best GPS Tracking Watches for Kids
By choosing one of these GPS tracking watches for kids, you will monitor your child’s location and call them back if they stray too far. The idea is not to be a burden on your child — as if any parent is more concerned about that than safety — but instead to ensure they are safe at all times.
Each device on the list includes its own features and a unique price tag. However, with so much variety, you should be able to find something that fits your budget.
We recommend considering everything that’s here before making a final decision about which of the GPS tracking watches for kids you will buy.
GPS Watches for Kids: What to Know
Before we get into our list, let’s take a closer look at what you should consider when purchasing GPS watches for kids. Vyncs.
GPS Tracking
One of the biggest fears for a parent is losing their child. It is something no parent wants to experience. Fortunately, there are GPS watches available on the market that allow us to keep track of our child’s location for greater peace of mind.
You can download the mobile app Find My Kids and then connect it to your child’s smartwatch. It offers reliable global positioning, and some even allow for geofencing.
SOS Alerts
When the watch has the SOS feature, your child can press the button when they find themselves in an emergency situation, and they can get help as quickly as possible.
Two Way Calling
With two-way calling, you can maintain even better lines of communication with your children. However, not all smartwatches have this functionality. So, when reviewing your options, see if two-way calling is a feature.
Camera
A kid’s smartwatch can also be used for entertainment purposes as well. While the camera really doesn’t have any safety benefits, it is fun for the kids. You might even be able to find a camera that you can monitor remotely from the mobile app to view your child’s location.
Waterproof
Finding a waterproof watch for your kids is especially ideal because they are made to be more durable and long-lasting. It is safe for your child to wear while swimming, washing their hands, and splashing around in the rain.
Tech Specs
Finally, make sure to look at the technical specifications of each GPS tracking watch as well. Check for a good battery capacity and make sure it comes with a reasonable amount of storage space.
Now, let’s get into our top recommendations of the best GPS watches for kids currently available online.

Best Child Tracker
One of our most successful articles here at Smartwatches is our list of the best smartwatches for children. That list contains a wide variety of devices, from entertainment wearables to full-on GPS tracking watches for kids.
The next best thing is a GPS tracking device. GPS trackers allow parents to monitor their children’s whereabouts, get important alerts about their locations and activities and communicate with their kids in the event of an emergency. There are a number of these trackers on the market, and all of them function a little differently. The best kids GPS tracker app is “Find my Kids” app from AppStore and Google Play. It provides amazing features like live location tracking and listening to surrounding noises and others. The best part is that you can use it for your toddlers and teenagers. The Best GPS Tracking Watches for Kids. By choosing one of these GPS tracking watches for kids, you will monitor your child’s location and call them back if they stray too far. The idea is not to be a burden on your child — as if any parent is more concerned about that than safety — but instead to ensure they are safe at all times. AngelSense is a kids’ GPS tracker that can keep your little one safe at school, play, and everywhere in between. Its comfortable design won’t interfere with your kiddo’s range of motion. And it locks tight onto school bags or clothes to stay with them from home to bus to classroom and beyond.

Before we get into our list, let’s take a closer look at what you should consider when purchasing GPS watches for kids.

A Closer Look at the Best GPS Tracker for Kids
At Imagination Ward, we understand that sometimes you might want something more than just recommended products based on brand reputation, customer feedback, and other variables. As a parent, reviews by other parents can be crucial when shopping. Especially when it comes to the safety of your own children.
This next section features the GPS trackers that are taking safety to the next level. Read on to learn about the Relay GPS Tracker, Walkie-Talkie, and Screenless Phone Device.
Special Feature Review: Relay GPS Tracker Device
As a parent in the modern era, allowing kids to have the freedom and keeping them safe at the same time can feel like walking a tightrope. Relay sent us some devices that pack safety, security, and easy communication all in a handheld device the size of your palm.
First Glance
The devices themselves are extremely lightweight and simple in design. They feature 3 buttons: Power & Volume on the side, and the large center button that is used to send messages. The power button is multi-purposed, as it is used to switch between channels.
The App is what really sold us on the Relay as the best GPS Tracker for kids. The straightforward design allows easy access to direct chats with each individual Relay device.
What We Loved
Our favorite feature of the Relays in conjunction with the companion app is the ability to set Geofences on the devices. You can easily view the Map mode to see exactly where each Relay device is located. Then by selecting Geofencing, you can add a 50-200 meter radius geofence.
The push notifications will then tell you when each device is within that geofence and when they are outside of it. For example, this can be a great way to track when your older kids get home from school if you’re still at work or running errands.
Does your broody teenager want to go to the mall, but not have you shadow them around? Before you even leave the house, set a Geofence to your desired destination and give them freedom without losing your sense of security.
To learn more about Relays, check out our full-featured product review. There we have more features listed, and some pointers about accessories and app usage.
5 Best GPS Tracker for Kids in 2020
Here are our picks for the other best GPS trackers for kids. Each comes with its own unique characteristics. One could be great for a parent heading to Disneyland but inappropriate for a father keeping track of a son who just took off in that fancy all-terrain vehicle.
That’s why we’ve rustled up five of the best GPS for kids, all the while keeping costs and ratings in mind.
Perhaps one of the more commonly-used trackers, Tile Mate is useful if you happen to lose a necessary item. However, it is also useful for keeping track of young ones. Measuring a mere 1.3 inches, the Tile Mate has a convenient hole that allows you to place it on tags or in book bags.
If you notice your child is being oddly quiet or has perhaps disappeared (unknown to you) behind the backyard bounce house in a game of Hide-and-Go-Seek, you can press a button on your phone to activate a ringer or use your cell to find his or her location.
However, the Bluetooth tracking in this GPS tracking device for kids only locates items or persons within a short to medium range. Most subbed twitch streamer. If long-distance tracking is needed, customers will have to contact Tile community’s global network. Further, while Tile promises a 12-month lifespan, many reviewers claim the tracker quits working well before this.
Compact enough to be slid in the pocket of a bag or attached to a belt, the Spy Tec gadget uses Google Maps to follow a child’s movement. It’s ideal for long-range tracking and provides real-time updates up to every five seconds. Furthermore, you can set boundaries on the device and request notifications if it somehow finds itself beyond the set locations.
The tracker also turns itself off if it’s not in motion, making the battery life that much longer. However, SpyTec’s system is a bit on the larger side, with dimensions of .9 x 1.5 x 2.7 inches. Furthermore, it initially costs about $50 to purchase and the tracking requires $25 a month, although there are no contracts.
All you have to do is tell your kiddo it’s a watch for spies, and he’ll never take it off. Best suited for children from 4 to 9, it lets kids take photos, send SOS calls and even use it as a flashlight. And it’s splash-proof (but not water-proof, so no swimming pools, please). It’s the perfect GPS tracker for kids that they won’t mind having to wear!
For parents, you can call the watch any time of day to hear and see what the little ones up to through a remote camera and voice monitor. You can even set the SOS calls up to send to three different phones in case someone can’t answer, restrict use during school hours and get real-time information on your child’s whereabouts. With this, you will need to purchase a separate SIM card.
Planning a camping trip? If so, goTele may be the appropriate choice for you. It doesn’t require WiFi, allows SMS messaging and has SOS options. Adding authenticity to the company’s product, it’s also used by experts. Shock-proof, water-proof and you-name-it proof. This device does require two devices to work correctly so the price is a bit staggering upfront.
However, it’s a one-time deal. No monthly fees apply.
Looking for something a bit less noticeable and easy to use in a pinch? What about a GPS tracker for kids shoes that won’t be noticed? Consider Ripple, which is great for emergency-only uses. The small, wearable technology is only $19.99 and can be used to contact friends and family with your child’s location. All the wearer needs to do is press the button at least three times.
If you subscribe for $10 a month, Ripple’s 24/7 team will also contact you or your child immediately and call for help. Oh, and the device? It’s the size of a penny. Safety just got a whole lot easier.
The Benefits of a Tracker
Using GPS tracking for kids has a hoard of advantages, especially if you have more than one littles in tow. Let’s face it; it only takes a quick glimmer to capture a three-year-old’s attention and have her wander off on a mini-adventure. That’s why trackers can be so useful. Sure, we watch our kids like hawks. But it’s easier in some situations than others, and all it takes is a few seconds for a child to go from secure to lost.
Convenient for the little ones? Absolutely.
But GPS watches for kids and other such trackers are also excellent for crowded spaces where the risk of someone getting lost becomes much higher. And, yes, to all the parents of teens who use the window more than the door, they can be great for keeping tabs on those with a penchant for late-night adventures.

They’re also useful for children with disabilities. In fact, The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children endorse the use of trackers on special-needs children.
Considerations
Gps For Kids Watch
Even with all its benefits, GPS trackers for kids can become a quick and ugly message: “I don’t trust you.” That’s why it’s important that context, age, and privacy be taken into consideration when a parent considers employing a GPS system. With that being said, they can be extremely helpful as giving us that big sigh of relief if we’re worried.

NBA Top Shot customers can't get their money out. Experts are confounded Dapper Labs, the $7.5 billion company behind NBA Top Shot, has struggled to deal with a massive influx of new buyers and sellers on its platform. After a month of stunning growth (Dapper Labs says NBA Top Shot has 100 times as many users since the beginning of the year) The site has frequently been down for maintenance, and customers have flooded Twitter and Dapper Lab’s official Discord channel with complaints about being unable to withdraw their money. “I just wanna get my money out man,” complained user “Harry” in the “#vent” channel of the NBA Top Shot Discord. Withdrawal delays are purposeful, to an extent, Dapper Labs says: Its identity verification and anti-money-laundering procedures necessitate a wait period to avoid fraud. But the company acknowledges that it has been overwhelmed by the massive influx of sales, and it is looking to hire people and beef up its nascent compliance team. For customers waiting to withdraw their money from Top Shot, the excuses are infuriating. Michael, a 32-year-old digital advertiser in Los Angeles, who asked CNN Business not to publish his last name out of concern that his account could be shut down, said that since joining NBA Top Shot in January, he’s been unable to access the roughly $40,000 sitting in his account. He recently filed a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. “I’m just really worried that I’m not going to be able to get my money,” said Michael. The waiting period Dapper Labs is trying to persuade angry customers that the delays are actually a benefit to buyers and sellers: The company touts the fact that — unlike most other NFT marketplaces — it has some fraud protections in place. Buyers and sellers must go through multiple processes to gain the ability to access the money sitting in their accounts. The first is an identity verification measure, known in the industry as a “know-your-customer” process that involves taking a photo of your driver’s license and submitting your Social Security number. A spokesperson for Dapper Labs told CNN Business that there is “no backlog” for their KYC verification, and that the procedures are performed automatically with any failed verifications being reviewed within a 48-hour period. The next process is a six-to-eight-week period during which Dapper Labs monitors accounts for possible signs of fraud. Dapper Labs claims the delay — which was extended from an initial 30-day period — is essential to spot fraudsters. In a blog post that Dapper Labs shared with CNN Business, the company claims the waiting period is designed to prevent people from buying and selling Moments and then issuing credit card chargebacks. However, even after customers finally access the ability to make withdrawals, there are still lengthy delays before money actually ends up in their bank accounts. Firstly, Dapper Labs has placed caps on how much money can be withdrawn, starting at $1,000, and wire transfers — which carry a $25 fee — take a substantial amount of time to complete. On its website, Dapper Labs says that “most withdrawals are processed within 21 days but others may take 40 days or more.” In practice, the amount of time varies wildly from customer to customer. Some customers are receiving withdrawal payments in days, while others have been waiting for much longer. Vincent Diciglio, a 32-year-old data analyst for Microsoft, told CNN Business that he’s been waiting weeks for his wire transfer to go through. “There’s no reason that a company should be worth billions of dollars and can’t cover these withdrawals or even have the employees to help move this process along,” said Diciglio. “It just doesn’t make sense.” Dapper Labs told CNN Business that the withdrawal caps are meant to protect customers in the event their account is compromised and to “limit other liabilities.” The lengthy period for wire transfers even after the six-to-eight-week fraud monitoring period “just doesn’t make sense,” said Rakhi Talwar, an anti-money-laundering compliance consultant for artwork based in the UK. “Isn’t the whole point of these crypto transactions to be instant?” ‘You don’t really know what something is truly worth’ Dapper Labs has big ambitions. By teaming up with the NBA and creating a marketplace that allows for NFT purchases with a credit card (most other NFT sites require a cryptocurrency wallet) Dapper Labs has positioned itself as the bridge between the high-tech world of cryptocurrency and traditional collecting — NFTs for the regular joe. But the ease and convenience that Dapper Labs offers has come at a cost. Because NBA Top Shot is an all-in-one-marketplace, one that is minting NFTs, converting user’s payments into Dapper Labs’ proprietary FLOW cryptocurrency, and then converting those coins back into cash, they’ve had to deal with the added complications that come with each step. Dapper Labs has good reason to be concerned about potential misuse of its platform, experts say. Because the value of NFTs are both volatile and difficult to calculate — unlike say, a Picasso painting or a Honus Wagner baseball card, there is little precedent to compare an NFTs value to — they are prime targets for money launderers looking to legitimize ill-gotten gains. “You don’t really know what something is truly worth,” cautioned Professor Moyara Ruehsen, the Director of the Financial Crime Management Program at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies. “Given that the value of NFTs can change in seconds in the NBA Top Shot Marketplace (sometimes significantly) and given the frantic and heated 24-7 Top Shot Marketplace, there exists no baseline,” wrote former SEC investigator John Reed Stark in a blistering essay cautioning about the how NBA Top Shot could be exploited by money launderers. “Thus, even the most profitable, erratic or lopsided trading activity could appear ordinary, bona-fide or typical. But it is not hard to find suspicious activity on Dapper Lab’s platform even with its lengthy fraudulent activity monitoring. For example, a Moment of Fred VanVleet — the scrappy Toronto Raptors starting guard — hitting a 3-pointer against the Knicks was minted around 15,000 times. Up until recently, its highest sale was for $1,599 in February. But on April 14, one of the Moments with a high serial number (meaning its value should be low) sold for an astounding $140,090. To Ruehsen, the transaction is suspicious. “Hopefully the compliance folks are filing suspicious activity reports (SARs) on cases where the the winning bid is wildly out of proportion with comparable sales of that type of NFT,” said Ruehsen, who noted that while it is Dapper Lab’s responsibly to report suspicious activity to regulators, ultimately it falls on law enforcement to determine if any illegal activity has occurred. Dapper Labs did not respond to questions about what actions they might have taken to investigate the Fred VanVleet transaction, or whether they have ever filed a SAR with regulators. However, in a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Dapper Labs CEO Roham Gharegozlou said he cannot recall ever filing SARs. While Dapper Labs says they still technically in “beta” mode and are enabling withdrawals as fast as they can — the company told CNN that as of April 23 “more than half” of customers have access to withdrawals — some of the users who have been waiting to gain access to their money have given to despair. “I haven’t gotten the money, I don’t think I’ll ever get the money,” said Vincent Diciglio. “I’ve accepted that I’ll never see it.” Source link Orbem News #confounded #customers #experts #investing #Money #NBA #NBATopShotcustomerscan'tgettheirmoneyout.Expertsareconfounded-CNN #shot #Top
