do you ever think about how season 4 hits john repeatedly in his abandonment issues and he tries so hard to hang on and hang on and hang on but the hits keep coming.

elizabeth sacrifices herself to save them and john isn't allowed to look for her and he's angry but he'll respect it.

ronon gets ready to leave the team and john tries his best to respect that too. but it's hurting him.

rodney wants to sacrifice himself for his sister and john quietly doesn't let it happen.

teyla tells him she's pregnant (something that invariably changes a parent's life in some ways are predictable and some ways that aren't) and john gets nasty about it.

the hits keep coming and john's doing his best but there are Limits. and this happens all in the span of 10 episodes ???

I was Once Again thinking about that one SBS question and more specifically about how it had been translated, when I accidentally came across this lowres photo of it (on KnowYourMeme of all places lmao)

So the reason I had been wondering about the actual translation of what Oda said here, is because while Viz translated the first sentence of Oda's reply as "I wonder if any of them have been married.", fantranslations have ranged from "The marriage experience, huh." to "I wonder if any of them have been to a wedding."

Needless to say, those are all very different things.

But now that I got access to the original text, I get to read it for myself and check what Oda actually said! So here goes (assuming I'm parsing the lowres jpg correctly)

結婚経験あるんですかねー。子供がいるのかいないのか知りませんが、とりあえず僕の想像でお楽しみください。 Kekkon keiken arun desu ka nee. Kodomo ga iru no ka inai no ka shirimasen ga, toriaezu boku no souzou de otanoshimi kudasai.

Arguably, the most literal (and thus clunky) translation would go something like "I wonder if they do have experience in marriage. I don't know if they have kids or not, but for now please enjoy what I imagined up". So I would say Viz's official translation is indeed the best/most accurate one-- like for the "been to a wedding" version to be an accurate translation then Oda would've had to say something along the lines of 結婚式に行ったことあるのかな (Kekkonshiki ni itta koto aruno ka na), and the "marriage experience, eh" version excludes Oda wondering if any of the three actually have any.

And, yeah, now I know. Fan vs official translations can have very interesting differences to begin with for a variety of reasons (not even getting to when mistranslations happen, which can and does happen to both), but with a series like this with a lot of "Oda said this" and "Oda said that" going around, it is really nice if you can doublecheck things yourself. Now this translation ghost will no longer haunt me!

And I can focus all my neurons on the missing ring instead!

I hatehatehate that every single hairdresser's appointment booking system forces me to choose "men's haircut" or "women's haircut" and then, if I choose the one that actually corresponds to my gender, I end up having to pay like 75 fucking euros for a "women's haircut" when I just want my hair to look exactly like a dude's hair.

I don't know what the different hairstyles are called, but I just want to have short shaggy hair. And you cannot convince me that my hair is somehow magically different from a man's hair. I hate the fact that I'm seriously considering just booking a "men's haircut" and then having to show up looking like the woman I am and deal with all the Gender Discomfort of explaining wtf I want when literally all I want is "boy-short" hair (as much as I cringe to even have to use that phrase).

Confession time I despise the ship so much. I didn't at first, after all it was the only thing I knew abt the show going in. But as I was watching I first developed a slight dislike bc in my opinion there is 0 romantic intent between them and in fact the story becomes much worse if there is. Then I finished the show and cheerfully went to see what people have to say about it, only to find out that the ship is like 80% of the content (and mostly OOC at that). Then I started getting it rec'd on my accounts as the algorithm picked up on my love for the show. Overexposure lead to my dislike growing and now I really really can't stand it.
