God I wish I had the patience (and time) to do a full dissertation style dive on serialised novels and how they've changed from Darwin-style serialisation to modern web-serials

Serialised fiction is such an interesting thing! It's so interesting to see something being written to an outline amidst real time feedback

Dickens was writing approximately a chapter a week and selling them either weekly as part of a magazine or monthly in little stand alone 3-4 chapter 'books'

Modern writers are killing themselves with 2-3 chapters a week and are supported monthly by patreon

And the demands are different, so the requirements have changed! The style has changed!

and there is a style! Modern web serials are SO OFTEN similar in so many ways, both form and function!

Is it just because one fella was successful doing it that way so everyone else cribs off them? Or is it a case of convergent evolution? I don't know because I haven't got the time to work it out.
