I have three memories of B:TAS and The Justice League show from seeing reruns as a young child. My three memories:

• I loved Two-Face. He's still my favorite villian. Richard Moll did such a good job in that role. I may not have known who he was back then, but he did so great in this role.

• I loved Martian Manhunter. Still do because of this show. I always felt he got the least representation on the show, but I loved him so much. Best Justice League member, by a mile.

• I liked the villian Shade. I don't know why, since he was such a minor villian. But something about his top hat and cane design just appealed to my aethestic sense, I guess. I remember that whole supervillain team intro weirded me out when I first saw it, but I don't know if that's true or not anymore. The memory is too fuzzy. But I did learn recently shade was voiced by a Canadian actor, which is pretty cool.

You know, it was interesting writing this. Going back through my mind, seeing what I remembered. Maybe I should do this again sometime with some other show.

I know it's been said before but it's so strange that the B:tAS writers felt they had to make up a "real" name for Harley Quinn that sounded like Harley Quinn (the way Pamela Isley sounds a bit like Poison Ivy) but what they came up with sounds less like a real name than Harley Quinn.

like "Harleen Quinzel" sounds like a name Harley Quinn would make up as a cover, the joke being that it sounds silly and implausible because she's a ditz. Indeed, the first time I think it comes up, in "The Man Who Killed Batman," she's passing herself off as a lawyer - and also showing for the first time that she can act like an intellectual, composed professional, so her ditziness is at least partly a performance too - so it would be reasonable for the audience to think it's a name she made up for the occasion.

Caped Crusader is definitely not a continuation of B:TAS, but damn, I have never been so pleased by a major departure in tone and lore. I wouldn't want this to be what the Batman mythos is like all the time, but I am obsessed with the choices they've made.
