Blackrock Summit and Amazing Views Beyond (Shenandoah National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A setting looking to the north-northwest while taking in views across the large boulder and rock formation at the summit of Blackrock in Shenandoah National Park. In composing this image, I chose to take advantage of what I felt where the layers present with the foreground interest of the rock formations and then the forest covered ridges and peaks of the Northern Blue Ridge. I also liked the contrast of looks between those two types of setting. I angled my Nikon Z8 Mirrorless Camera slightly downward to bring the horizon higher into the image and minimize what I felt was the negative space of the overcast skies.

Rain Fed Water Fall into Mammoth Cave at the Historic Entrance View (Mammoth Cave National Park)

Rain Fed Water Fall into Mammoth Cave at the Historic Entrance View (Mammoth Cave National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A portrait orientation of an image from just inside the main, historic entrance in this part of Mammoth Cave National Park with a view looking to just outside the cave. While most of the images at this point had been with a landscape orientation, I felt a portrait one would best capture that feel of the cave entrance, especially with the waters falling from the top to some nearby rocks a little to my front. I decided to go with a longer exposure in order to bring out more of a milkier look to the falling waters. I then worked with Capture NX2 and used some D-Lighting adjustments to bring out the more shadowed areas without including too much color cast. I later did some work with color control points for the final image seen.

One Can't Buy Love, But One Can Walk out into Nature and See the Earth's Beauty (Analog Efex Pro 2, Mammoth Cave National Park)

One Can't Buy Love, But One Can Walk out into Nature and See the Earth's Beauty (Analog Efex Pro 2, Mammoth Cave National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: I exported a TIFF image to Analog Efex Pro 2 and made some adjustments to a classic camera recipe to bring out a more "old camera" feel that might have been captured on some film with a camera. This is standing just beyond the famous, historic entrance to Mammoth Cave with waters from a recent rains coming down over the cave entrance.

Looking Straight to the Top of Devils Tower (Bear Lodge, Devils Tower National Monument) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: With this image I used this close up point along the Red Beds Trail to look straight up on the eastern side. I was able to find a point with a slight closed down aperture to bring much into focus in this image, including not just the side of this formation from near to far but also a few of these people climbing. Zooming in, one can see the ropes and colors of clothes and helmets.

One Can't Buy Love, But One Can Walk out into Nature and See the Earth's Beauty (Mammoth Cave National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: An image I capture where I got the idea from others including this one on Flickr (www.flickr.com/photos/andreamoscato/25358154068/in/galler...). In my mind, the idea was to use the historic entrance and the cave walls as kind of a portal for looking up and outward into the daylight beyond. The recent rains just before my visit helped to create a small waterfall that I was able to use along with the stairs to complete the setting for this image captured. I decided to go with a longer exposure in order to bring out more of a milkier look to the falling waters. I later worked with Capture NX2 and you some D-Lighting adjustments to bring out the more shadowed areas without including too much color cast. I then did some work with color control points for the final image seen.
