a/n: I didn’t mean for this to be so long 😭 Also this is set before some of them go to the NHl. Also 2: Pretend that Los Angeles to Ann is 3000 miles from each other.

Nevaeh gazed out her bedroom window staring at the California sunset, missing the snowflakes and fireplace warmth of Michigan. She longed to be back with her friends, especially Luke, who had been her childhood friend.

As she scrolled through her phone, memories flooded her mind. She and Luke had grown up together, and his hockey teammates had become her own friends. They'd have sleepovers, skated together, played in the snow, and the boys would go to Nevaeh with girl issues.

But now, she was stuck in California, feeling homesick and alone. She sent Luke a message: "Hey, I'm missing you and Michigan so much. Can we Facetime tonight?"

The response came quickly: "Aww, Nevaeh! I'm missing you too! We can Facetime tonight after practice. Can't wait to catch up!"

Nevaeh's heart skipped a beat. Maybe this winter break wouldn't be so bad after all.

Nevaeh's eyes wandered, lost in the California haze. She yearned to escape the sun-kissed streets, craving the crisp air and gray skies of home. She stood there on the half empty dock thinking of running away, back to the place she dreams of being in. If only it wasn’t 3000 miles away.

Feeling restless, she thought back to Michigan's stormy weather, the way the wind would whip through her hair as she walked down State Street. Those were the days she felt truly alive.

The present seemed dull and gray in comparison. She missed the warmth of her friends hugs, the way they tease convinced her to stop studying and to go out with them. Most of all, she missed the sense of belonging that came with being surrounded by friends who knew her best.

As she gazed out at the sunset reflecting into the ocean, a pang of sadness struck her heart. She wasn't okay. She was lost in a sea of unfamiliarity, 3000 miles from her home.

Nevaeh redialed Ethan’s number, for the 6th time, hoping he'd answer. She remembered his "Silent mode" joke and smiled, thinking about their late-night conversations on her roof top.

As she waited, she gazed out at the California night sky, feeling like a stranger in this moonlit world. She longed for Michigan's starry skies and snowflakes falling.

Finally, Ethan answered, his sleepy voice a brightness to her dark homesick heart. "Hey, what's up?" he mumbled.

"Just wanted to hear about your day," Nevaeh said softly. As they talked, the distance between them seemed to shrink, but she knew a piece of her heart would always remain in Michigan.

Listening to Nevaeh, Dylan grows concerned as she mention being lonely and homesick "I’ve been dreamjng of a place called home, Dyl." She felt like she was drowning in her birth state, surrounded by unfamiliar faces, beside her father, her step siblings, and the endless sunshine.

She thought back to the nights them and the crew would run together, laughing and chasing the stormy weather. But now, the gray skies of Michigan seemed like a distant memory.

"I don’t feel okay, Dylan" she whispered to him over the phone, feeling the weight of her decision to leave her father and go back home to her true family, her friends. She missed the way they would take turns guiding her to skate, and the way the wind would whip through her hair when Luke’s older brother Quinn would drive their boat on the summer lake.

And as she gazed out at Los Angeles skyline, she felt like she was losing herself. The distance between them and her seemed to grow with each passing day, and she wondered if this feeling would end.

As she laid in her bed, she thought of the crew at the rink, their rugged faces and loud chirping becoming a familiar noise to her. She'd grown up with their laughter, their teasing, and their competitive banter.

But now, as she laid alone, she felt like an outsider. Michigan was a 3,000 mile drive away and the next plane leaves in 3 days, but Nevaeh wishes she could be there in an instant, like Dorothy.

If only, only, she could go back for a day, to see those familiar faces that she calls her brothers. But it was too far, and she knew she couldn't won’t make it home in time before they have to go back to school.

Nevaeh opens up a group chat titled, “The Wolves”, a play on their college team name. She writes a long text, saying, “Hey boys, it's been too long. I'm stuck here in this crazy, busy city, feeling like I'm a millions miles away from everything that's real. I miss the stormy weather, I miss our late nights at the lake, and I miss the way you all would drag me out…. But most importantly I miss you all. This place just ain't the same as Michigan nor are the people. It feels like forever since we've been together. I'm not okay. 3000 miles away, wishing we were all together. Talk to you guys later <3 - Nevaeh”

Nevaeh wakes up to the yellow California sun shining in her eyes. She lays there for a second before hearing her phone going off continuously. As she grabs her phone, she notices all the messages from the group chat, and she reads every response.

E: We miss you as well Nevs!!!

Dyl: There’s always FaceTime or Skype

Mack: Yeah, this place isn't the same without you. We need you back here

Luca: Adams growing annoying, we need you to shut him up

Adam: Screw off Luca. But Nevs if you’re feeling homesick we can always book you the flight back.

Jay: Or we could fly to you!

Noah: We’ll get the crew together back together as soon as you’re home!

Marks: We love Nevaeh, you could always call one of us

And as Nevaeh gets ready to respond and message chat pops down and the name reads, LuLu, Nevaeh instantly opens her and Luke’s Messages.

“Ah! There you are l/n!” Rengoku’s loud voice boomed against the rocks, making it echo.

You had gotten up early to meditate with Himajima, but got lost at the beauty of the place before you, that after meditation was over, you decided to stay. You had no idea you had spent the whole morning here, and it was time for yours and rengoku’s everyday afternoon walk.

“I’m sorry Rengoku I got lost in my mind and in the beauty of this place.” You said sliding off the rock you were sitting on.

“I understand, I come here sometimes to clear my thoughts when Himajima-san isn’t using it. The waterfall is very calming.” You nod, finally standing beside the flame hashira, making him smile softly when your gazes met. “Shall we get going?” He asks, once again you nod.

The walk started off quite. For you, you enjoyed the scenery, for Rengoku you knew he was trying to enjoy the scenery too, but he was also on guard, fretful of a demon attack.

“Do you have any missions coming up?” He eventually asked. You shook your head. “No, I don’t understand. I haven’t had a mission in almost 2 weeks.”

“Me too! It’s almost scary. It’s definitely the calm before the storm!”

“You think there’s going to be a war?”

“I’m not sure. Obviously all the demons didn’t just up and disappear while we all were resting one night.”

You giggled. “True, if that was the truth Miss Kamado wouldn’t be here anymore either.”

A “mhm.” Was heard from Rengoku, before silence fell once again over the two of you.

About 2 miles later, Rengoku ventured away from the normal route you two take, leaving you to try to catch up from him since he turned without warning.

“H-hey where are we going?”

“I’m hungry! We will go get food!”

“Aww, we should have seen if Kanroji-san wanted to attend with us-”

“No she’s not feeling well!” He quickly cut you off, making you speechless for a second.

“Oh, is she ok?”

“Yes! Obanai is taking care of her. She will be much better by the morning I’m sure.”

You giggled, your dirty mind kicking in. “Yes I’m sure of Obanai is taking care of her she will be fine by morning.”

“I do not follow! Is there a joke in what you said?”

“No it’s ok I don’t expect you to understand all that much.”

“I shall laugh anyway so you do not feel sad I didn’t catch on.” He said before laughing which made you laugh before gently hitting his arm.

“You’re something else Rengoku.” You said turning your head to look at the creak running under the little bridge you were passing over. Rengoku was thankful, he had hoped you didn’t see his red face.

“Ahh I haven’t had this place in so long it’s so good!” You said slurping up the noodles from the bowl. Rengoku had barely eaten his food, he was too mesmerized by how happy and beautiful you looked, especially when you did what you called your “happy food dance”.

“Ah yes, I usually reward myself with this place when I feel like I did good on a mission. This is one of my favorite places to eat!”

“Oh this is totally my new favorite place to eat.” You said with a giggle as you brought more noodles to your mouth.

Rengoku’s face heated up again, the thought of you two sharing a favorite restaurant made Rengoku happy.

“Oh, Rengoku are your noodles spicy? Your face is red.”

“Oh! Umm- uhh, y-yes it is a little spicy but it’s ok! I don’t mind!” He said before grabbing a bunch of noodles and shoving them into his mouth. You laughed.

“Rengoku I swear you’re such an oddball.”

Oh how he acted like a lost puppy around you. Your voice and laugh makes him want to melt into a puddle. He was head over heels in love with you.

“Oh look at the flowers!” You gasped as you walked quickly over to the sunflowers by your path. Rengoku walked behind you, smiling at your excitement.

“Aren’t they beautiful? It’s fall so they’re in full bloom. Keep reaching towards the sun cuties” you spoke to the flowers, reaching your hand up to reach one of the flowers, only for your hand to be caught in rengoku’s. You turned around to face him, only to feel your cheeks heating up at the way Rengoku was looking at you. His eyes soft, half lidded, and full of love as they looked into yours, a soft smile plastered on his face, with a soft hint of blush on his cheeks.

“I think you’re beautiful, y/n. Those sunflowers look like mere weeds when you’re standing beside them. In all honesty, I feel like I’m like the sunflower. The sunflower craves the warmth of the sun, so they grow upwards, in hopes of one day reaching the sun, and basking in its soft rays of warmth. I crave to be close to you. I crave to see you smile, hear your laughter and voice, that’s my warmth. You’re my warmth. I’m just a mere weed compared to you.” He says removing the hand that was on top of yours, to rest it on your cheek.

“Kyo, you being a weed? You’re really putting yourself down. You’re the flame Hashira! The man that makes all the ladies swoon with his kindness. The man that’s willing to lay his life down on the line to protect people he’s never met before. Don’t you understand? You’re the sun.” You said softly, removing your hand to place it on his cheek. Rengoku closed his eyes, and gently leaned into your hand before opening them and looking at you as you removed them to place your hand back in his.

[A/N: Happy Birthday my lovely!!! It's also my besties birthday today and one of my dog's birthdays as well heh. I hope you have/had a wonderful day today! I'm really craving some cake rn NFEKAFK, save me a slice :(. I appreciate all your support, so here's a short little drabble for your birthday. I hope you like it! Love ya <3]

You were full-on sulking at the fact that no one, especially your boyfriend, Kaminari, had spoken to you at all that day on your special day–your birthday. In fact, you couldn’t find the blond boy anywhere no matter how hard you looked. All your calls to him went straight to voicemail and your classmates had no idea where he was either. So there you were, your head thrown into your pillow as you sigh for the nth time, wondering where he could be on such an important day.

Did he really forget? You couldn’t help but think the worst as the day was almost over, the soft orange glow of the sun setting outside illuminating your room. Your only birthday wish was to spend some time with your boyfriend as he was usually busy with training or goofing off with his friends whenever he wasn’t with you. There had been a tiny glimmer of hope within you that maybe he’d plan something special for you, but as the sun fully set and you still sat lonely in your dorm, you gave up.

You drag yourself out of your dorm room and don’t even question the darkness and silence that had uncharacteristically fallen upon the dorms, too caught up in your own sadness and loneliness to notice. It isn’t until you turn the corner into the common room that your heart nearly flies out of your mouth.

“Surprise!” Everyone screams as the lights suddenly go on and all your classmates jump up from wherever they were hiding, but one face stands out the most–Kaminari.

“Well it’s about time! I almost had to call Mina or something to get you out of your ro- wait why are you crying?” Kaminari runs over to you quickly and brings you into his arms, shielding your tears from your classmates who have already busied themselves with some cake.

You smack his chest in frustration but lean into his touch regardless–your disappointment long forgotten.

“You idiot, I thought you forgot my birthday,” you cry even harder, your happiness that he in-fact didn’t forget, coming out as tears.

“Aww baby, how could I ever forget your birthday? I may be stupid, but I made like a million reminders on my calendar and notes just incase I did forget. I wanted to surprise you!”

“Well I’m definitely surprised,” you mumble, finally wrapping your arms around him, “Thank you, I was a little sad earlier, but this definitely makes up for it. You owe me cuddles later though, for making me suffer like that.”

“Of course babe, you don’t even have to beg for those,” he winks and grabs your hand as he leads you over to what was left of your cake.

“Eat up! I had it made especially for you!”

“Thank you Denki,” you smile, pressing a soft kiss to his cheek before the both of you dig in.

It was definitely a happy birthday and the cuddles you were to receive later would make it even better.
