Daniel Andrews Resigns as Victoria Premier
Tumblr media
Statement by the Australian Prime Minister
Daniel Andrews is a person of deep conviction, great compassion, and fierce determination and he brought all those qualities to his time as Premier of Victoria. Dan has always been a builder and in education, health, infrastructure, and housing he has built an extraordinary legacy that will endure for generations. You can measure Dan’s time as Premier not just in years but in achievements. Opportunities created through TAFE and early education reform. Melbourne and the regions remade by record investments in infrastructure and public transport. An ambitious plan for the construction of 800,000 new homes right across Victoria. A new generation of powerful social progress on equality, action against family violence, and investments in mental health. Dan’s leadership was tested by some of the toughest times. In the relentless pressure of a once-in-a-generation pandemic, Dan never shirked the hard decisions. He fronted up, he stood up and he did everything in his power to keep Victorians safe. As Prime Minister, it was a pleasure for me to work alongside an old friend – and a leader of such vision and ambition. It made a huge difference to sit at the National Cabinet table with someone who believed so deeply in the power of government to change lives for the better. Nearly nine years as Premier is a remarkable achievement. Dan Andrews can be proud that he didn’t waste a minute. I wish Dan, Cath, and their children all the very best for their future together.   Sources: THX News & Australian Government. Read the full article

Tech giant Google forebodes Australian government to disable it's search engine, if the government continues with the new media code and pressurize Google and Facebook to pay a dedicated amount to the local news outlets for sharing their content. According to reports, Australia is proceeding with new media law which will make the tech giants to negotiate payments with local publishers and broadcasters for sharing their content. If denied by any tech company, a government-appointed arbitrator will decide the price. Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said, "We don't respond to threats." #Australia #google #facebook #newmedialaw #australianmedia #scottmorrison #australianprimeminister #PrimeMinister #techcompany #techgiant #googlesearch #searchengine https://www.instagram.com/p/CKV1O67rmh-/?igshid=lfx9w4bd32up

NSW Will Not Race to Lift Limitations as National Cabinet Exposes Plan
Premier Gladys Berejiklian has encouraged people over the weekend to adhere to current lockout laws, stressing that NSW is not going to rush the implementation of coronavirus lifting restrictions. When the national cabinet agreed to a three-step strategy to rid the country from the lockout of coronavirus, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said it would be up to the states to decide their timetable.
Tumblr media
Ms Berejiklian said that she wants the economy of the state to restart as soon as possible, but she said that there would be no drastic changes and that NSW would not hurry to lighten restrictions. Ms Berejiklian said on Friday, ahead of the national cabinet meeting, "NSW will be considering the data we collected in May, to make sure that any further consideration of easing restrictions will be done in a solid way so that we continue to gain ground." "You can’t just make a decision and implement it immediately, there’s 8 million people I need to consider." Earlier this week, Ms Berejiklian worked to control perceptions and said there would be no changes in place for Mother's Day on Sunday in time in NSW, such as big family gatherings. She encouraged people to be complacent over the weekend. She said, "With Mother’s Day and another weekend coming along, we know there will be more visitations to peoples’ houses and we ask people to do that safely, especially if you’re visiting an older and vulnerable person." "Please consider how you might conduct that visit to keep everybody safe." She said the return of schools is one of the first significant measures which will begin to increase face-to-face teaching from Monday. I was very sad to hear of Bob Hawke’s passing today. As a child growing up in Canberra in the 80’s he was the only prime minister I knew, so it was a surprise when Keating took over. I had the opportunity to photograph Hawke in his Sydney office in 2006 while working on the ABC’s Australian Story. He’s only 5’8” to my 6’5”, so I’m definitely crouching down in this photo of the two of us for him to be able to reach his arm around. It’s always uncanny when the people we’ve seen as characters behind the TV screen appear before us in real life, but a good reminder that they are just human beings like us. Farewell Bob. #bobhawke #australianprimeminister 1983-1991 #laborlegend (at Sydney, Australia) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bxhv97pg9-i/?igshid=1etp3lmortgni

Australian PM Urges Schools to Reopen amid Coronavirus Outbreak
Scott Morrison – Australian Prime Minister – warned on Wednesday that the nation’s children could become a silent victim of Coronavirus outbreak as new nursing home cluster is investigated by officials. At levels much lower than other countries for weeks Australia’s rate of COVID-19 infections has been continued; but strict social distancing orders, that have shut businesses and limited people to their homes, have been retained so far. Still, Scott Morrison wants teachers, to join ‘great heroes’ such as supermarket workers and medical staff, to return to their classrooms across the country stressing the risk that children lose a year of education particularly those from disadvantaged families. “At this time, as our nation fights this coronavirus, your role has become even more important” said PM Scott Morrison in his address posted on his official Facebook page in the video form. “The education of our children hangs in the balance”.
Tumblr media
The Morrison’s warning regarding the reopening cracks between various state jurisdiction and federal government over the thorny problem of whether children should attend school acknowledging the fact that much of the country is in lockdown form owing to coronavirus outbreak. Morrison told that the risks to children from attending school have been consistently considered to be very low by the official health advice. Contrary to this, parents are advised to keep their children at home by some state leaders; while the risks to teachers have been highlighted by trade unions. About 6,400 cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Australia whereas 61 deaths have been recorded, with the rate of daily uplifting in the low single digits for weeks though a handful of latest clusters over the past week have been there. More than a third of the country’s recent cases have been accounted for two hospital in Tasmania.
