Coronavirus Pandemic: 5 Things to Know Wednesday
Everyone, undoubtedly, is familiar with the chaos caused by the novel coronavirus pandemic within a few months; besides, on Wednesday some incidences are scheduled to make conspicuous stance among other occurrences. Let’s shed some light on the 5 things you need to aware of happened on Wednesday. Deadline for claiming $500 stimulus check for deserving kids
Any beneficiaries of federal benefits must act quickly if they wish to see an extra $500 per qualifying child early. Such groups do not make enough money to be eligible to file a tax return, including those earning Social Security and Supplementary Security Income. Earlier this week, the Internal Revenue Service stated, "Their $1,200 payments will be issued soon and, in order to add the $500 per eligible child amount to these payments, the IRS needs the dependent information before the payments are issued," The details can be submitted online by Wednesday at noon EST on the "Non-filers: Enter Payment Info" application. More Protests against State Stay-At-Home Orders
Another demonstration against Virginia's stay-at-home order is planned in Richmond on Wednesday, the latest in a growing national campaign against governors juggling healthcare and economic issues amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. There were also protests in Colorado, Michigan, Kentucky, Pennsylvania and other counties. Several states, under pressure from demonstrators and the White House, have made moves to scale back social distancing legislation imposed to combat the spread of COVID-19. Gov. Greg Abbott signed executive orders Friday in Texas to loosen some of the most serious constraints on the state. A ban on un-essential surgery will be loosened Wednesday and starting Friday, retail companies will be able to operate with a curbside pickup. Danny DeVito, Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, more on Fundraiser
Some of the biggest stars band in New Jersey together to give back during the coronavirus pandemic Wednesday. The "Jersey for Jersey" special will feature Jon Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, Tony Bennett, Halsey, SZA, Jon Stewart, Chris Rock, Danny DeVito, Chelsea Handler and many more from their homes to raise funds. Money raised by the hour-long broadcast will go to the New Jersey Pandemic Relief Fund, launched to help bring support to vulnerable communities around the state that was hit hard by the pandemic of coronavirus. The special streams at 7 p.m. ET are to be unfolded on multiple platforms. Digital Earth Day's 50th Anniversary
On Wednesday, 50th anniversary of Earth Day was supposed to be a celebration across the globe. It still will be – just digitally. With social distancing restrictions in place around the world to counter coronavirus pandemic, millions of people will celebrate the online annual day dedicated to environmental protection. Citizens may engage in several ways: remotely protesting; making a poster and posting it with hashtags like # EarthDayNetwork on social media; attending a virtual conference coordinated by teachers, colleges and other leaders; watching a performance; playing trivia games; and much more. McDonald’s Says 'Thanks' to Health Care Workers
Beginning Wednesday, first responders and health care workers working on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic that receive McDonalds' free meal courtesy. The fast-food giant says the "Thank You Meals" will be available at participating restaurants nationwide for breakfast, lunch and dinner through May 5. The company said customers must display a work badge or ID, or be in uniform, and there is a maximum of one per customer per day. Because of COVID-19, McDonald's closed its dining rooms and play areas on March 16, but 99 %of U.S. stores remain open for execution and distribution. WHO Cautions Rush to Ease Virus Rules Could Lead to Resurgence
On Tuesday, the World Health Organization (WHO) said that trying to relax restrictions on coronavirus would likely lead to a revival of the disease, a warning that comes as policymakers begin carrying out strategies to get their economies moving again. Dr. Takeshi Kasai, WHO regional director for the Western Pacific, “This is not the time to be lax. Instead, we need to ready ourselves for a new way of living for the foreseeable future.” He said policymakers need to remain vigilant to avoid the spread of the virus and to slowly remove lockdowns and other social distancing measures and strike the right balance between keeping citizens safe and enabling economies to work. Aggressive Plans to Reopen the Economy Despite health officials' fears, several U.S. states reported ambitious reopening plans on Monday, while Boeing and at least one other U.S. manufacturer of heavy machinery resumed production. Across Europe, where the crisis has started to ebb across countries like Italy, Spain and Germany, step-by-step reopenings have been taking place elsewhere around the world. On Tuesday, Australia said it would allow non-urgent surgery to start from next week as health officials are more assured that Covid-19 patients won't overload hospitals there. On Tuesday, the reopenings come as policymakers get tired of rising numbers of unemployment and economic crisis prospects. Asian shares led Wall Street lower after US oil futures fell below zero as factories, cars and aeroplanes remain idle due to a worldwide glut. The cost of having delivered a barrel of US crude in May plummeted to negative $37.63 as traders ran out of places to store it. At the start of the year it was at about $60. Companies that start operating in the US again are likely to build goodwill with President Donald Trump at a time when his administration is giving out billions of dollars in relief to companies. Trump has been agitated to revive the economy, singing out Democratic-led states and egging demonstrators arguing that the shutdowns are damaging their livelihoods and trampling on their freedoms. Many States Reopen Businesses and Public Spaces
Governors said they had seen signs in some states-most of them Republican-led-that the coronavirus curve was flattening, making it easier to reopen businesses and public spaces. Brian Kemp, Georgia Governor, has announced plans to revive the economy of his state before the week ends. Kemp said hair salons, gyms, bowling alleys, and tattoo parlors could reopen on Friday as long as owners met strict criteria for social distance and hygiene. Texas began a week of slow reopenings on Monday, beginning with state parks, while officials said the stores would be able to provide curbside service later in the week. Tennessee Governor Bill Lee declared that businesses across most of the state would start reopening as early as next week, but the order did not comprise counties with the biggest cities like Nashville, Memphis, Knoxville and Chattanooga. Republicans rule both nations. On Monday, Republican West Virginia Governor Jim Justice said he would authorize hospitals to conduct elective procedures if the facilities meet an unspecified set of requirements as per WHO. On Monday, Jared Polis, Governor of Democratic Colorado, said he will allow his compulsory stay-at-home order to expire next week as long as strict social distancing and other individual security initiatives continue. But governors from several other states said they lacked the supplies they needed for testing and warned that a second wave of infections could reach them, considering how people with no symptoms can still transmit the disease. Gretchen Whitmer, referring to restrictions in place in her state, remarked, “Who in this great state actually believes that they care more about jet skiing than saving the lives of the elderly or the vulnerable? This action isn’t about our individual right to gather. It’s about our parents’ right to live.” Do not forget leaving your valuable comment on this piece of writing and sharing with your near and dear ones. The Novel Coronavirus Pandemic is Changing Anti-vaxxers’ Mindset
Scientists race to create an unparalleled inoculation of the coronavirus and many political leaders have cautioned that the constraints on our lives cannot be removed entirely until one is available. This is a problem for the anti-vaxxers community, many of whose members strongly oppose mandatory vaccinations. Yet something more surprising has been achieved by the virus too. It has made a few anti-vaxxers alter their mindsets. Haley Searcy, who is 26 and from Florida, unfolded she was “fully anti-vax” when, in 2019, her daughter was born. "I had seen so many accounts of kids dying from SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) and having other dangerous reactions due to vaccines," she added, recapping the scientifically unfounded but widespread concern among vaccine treatments that even those therapies which have undergone extensive testing can still be risky. "I was just as scared of vaccines as I was of the diseases they protect against." Searcy said she "begrudgingly allowed her to be vaccinated," after being informed by her daughter's pediatrician, yet they also thought the vaccines would be needless and harmful. Her opinion has been shifted with the coronavirus outbreak. She stated, "Since Covid-19, I've seen firsthand what these diseases can do when they're not being fought with vaccines." "My mother has a lung disease, so if she gets Covid-19 there is no fighting it. I learned as much as I could to speak out against misinformation in the hopes that I could convince more people to stay home and follow social distancing so that she won't get sick. So many lives are at stake, including people I care about who are very vulnerable." In the course of researching how the world had dealt with pandemics in the past, Searcy discovered how vaccines had been used to counter recent pandemics such as swine flu. "And I've learned just how rigorous vaccine trials are before they're made available to the public," she added. She also gathered details about countries that had reduced coronavirus spread. "I wasn't actively looking for vaccine information but the more I learned, the more I realized it would help and the easier it became to recognize the lack of science in anti-vax arguments," she stated. According to polling carried out for a research group at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine – Vaccine Confidence Project – in a number of nations, including the United Kingdom and France, concerns raised by some in recent years about vaccinations in general have eased.
Deidi Larson, VCP director, said Figures showed that, as the number of coronavirus deaths escalated and public understanding of its severity raised, people became more likely to take a vaccine. "I think it definitely is provoking people to rethink a lot of things," she said. Yet she warned there was a need for more data to monitor the reaction over time. She stated some were "going to the opposite side" and were distrustful of a potential coronavirus vaccine - the anti-vaxxers. "This is an important time to reflect on the value of vaccines," said Larson. "If we had had a vaccine for this, we wouldn't be locked up in a room, the economies wouldn't be crumbling, and we would have been a whole different world. The question I would ask is, do we have to wait for something to be this bad?" Once vaccinations are common and people see little threat, they are more cautious, Larson said. Yet she added futher that shielding society "totally depends on public cooperation." Many who openly object to vaccination now face harsh critic. Tennis player Novak Djokovic raised eyebrows on Sunday after he shared his views on a coronavirus vaccine while addressing the pandemic's effects. "Personally I am opposed to vaccination and I wouldn't want to be forced by someone to take a vaccine in order to be able to travel," Novak Djokovic stated in a Facebook live chat. "But if it becomes compulsory, what will happen? I will have to make a decision. I have my own thoughts about the matter and whether those thoughts will change at some point, I don't know." Some anit-vaxxers fear that governments will make use of lockdowns as an excuse to drive through regulations such as compulsory vaccination compliance. This is a big problem for Lynette Marie Barron, who runs an organization called Tough Love, and who actively lobbied twice against bills to restrict religious vaccination exemptions in her state of Alabama. Barron has children suffering from health issues. One of her daughters was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that came after she was given vaccines in her youth, Barron says. Another daughter was born with extreme autism, which Barron attributes after injuring a finger during pregnancy to a tetanus vaccine she was given. Such fears have been debunked multiple times by a number of independent groups encompassing the non-government institute of Medicine – The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO). When Will the Second Wave of the Novel Coronavirus Strike?
Researchers are concerned about the second wave of the disease just before the first devastating phase of the novel coronavirus pandemic has run its course. It could smash worse than the first, slaying tens of thousands of people who have done such a good job of protecting in place they remain virgin ground for the coronavirus. Or it might be a pure ripple, with so many people affected without signs that immunity rates are higher than realized. There is no crystal ball to look at, because there are still so many important pieces of information missing. Peter Marks, director of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER), said, until there is a vaccine “it’s unfortunately not unlikely that we may see a second wave or even a third wave.” “I shudder to think of that, but I think we have to be realistic." Can you fall a prey to COVID-19 more than once?
The first question in any doctor's mind is whether anyone who has had the novel coronavirus is immune, and if so for how long. People who have had mumps are completely immune to it. Versions of the common cold triggered by different forms of coronavirus indicate immunity waning within one year. COVID-19 is such a novel ailment that there is no reliable data on survivor immunity. But, it is projected to carry at least some immunity, given its similarities to coronaviruses such as Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) and severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). That is good news as so many people have contracted COVID-19 through SARS-CoV-2, the virus that triggers the illness. Perhaps far others had it asymptomatically, and did not know it. Experts states it is difficult to determine what proportion of the population is immune as the United States does not yet have rigorous research. A reply is probably months away. Even if immunity is not permanent the virus might have infected enough people to make finding new victims difficult for it. A professor of epidemiology at Harvard’s Chan School of Public Health – Marc Lipsitch – who co-wrote a paper in the journal Science modeling what novel coronavirus might look like after the preliminary outbreak has passed, said, “It would mean we’d be getting to herd immunity through natural immunity” even before a vaccine is established. Gregory Poland, a professor of medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, stated once it returns, it is definitely the first time it enters toughest areas not heavily infected. “This outbreak has predominantly been on the two coasts. Wave 2 will be in the interior of the county where there are a lot of susceptible people,” he added. Will the novel Coronavirus vanish in the summer?
Another consideration is that the virus persists at hotter, drier temperatures for longer. That's why the flu is more prevalent in winter, the virus lasts longer and people are more likely to be behind the closed doors. Michael Mina, a professor of epidemiology at the Center for Communicable Disease Dynamics at Harvard's Chan School of Public Health, stated, “We have no idea really whether this is going to bounce back the moment people start going back outdoors or if the warmer weather is actually going to help us out.” “If it doesn’t happen in the summer, we’d all be very surprised if we don’t see some reemergence in the fall,” he added. Modeling proposes, in that scenario, the sweet spot of COVID-19 may be the same as influenza, with a peak between October and November roughly. If it behaves like influenza, it travels there for winter to the Southern hemisphere, and during its cold months it returns to the Northern hemisphere. What about the second wave? Poland said, “To anthropomorphize, the virus will come back here looking for new victims.” The first wave of the epidemic now being faced by the planet struck so hard that no one had immunity. Ultimately it may collapse into an annual cycle of reoccurrence, like influenza. If combined with the annual outbreak of winter flu, it will further burden the nation's hospitals. Mike Reid, a professor of infectious disease at the University of California – San Francisco, said an increase in fall also seems likely as children return to school. “Given the potential for repeated waves, the more that can be put in place to rapidly jump on every new spike and ring-fence every infected individual with wraparound health services is going to be crucial,” he added. In order to avoid this, wide-ranging testing would need to be available, and communication tracking will be in place to identify someone who has been exposed and to enable them to self-isolate for at least 14 days. Novak Djokovic Opposes Obligatory the Novel Coronavirus Vaccination
Novak Djokovic faces a dilemma whether players are forced to get vaccinated before they can continue playing once the tennis season begins again following the hiatus created by the novel coronavirus outbreak, said world No. 1 tennis player in men's singles. He said in a live Facebook chat a few fellow Serbian athletes, “Personally I am opposed to vaccination and I wouldn’t want to be forced by someone to take a vaccine in order to be able to travel.” “But if it becomes compulsory, what will happen? I will have to make a decision. I have my own thoughts about the matter and whether those thoughts will change at some point, I don’t know. “Hypothetically, if the season was to resume in July, August or September, though unlikely, I understand that a vaccine will become a requirement straight after we are out of strict quarantine and there is no vaccine yet.” Former world number one tennis player – Amelie Mauresmo – said last month that the remaining tennis season of 2020 could be washed out, saying the activity shouldn't restart until players can get a novel coronavirus vaccine. In a widely shared tweet, the two-time grand slam winner stated, “International circuit = players of all nationalities plus management, spectators and people from the 4 corners of the world who bring these events to life. No vaccine = no tennis.” Medical experts have stated that vaccines against the respiratory virus will not be available until next year, creating concerns about the prospect of contesting any more tennis tournaments this year. The Wimbledon Championships this year have been postponed for the first time since World War II, while the French Open, initially scheduled for May 24-June 7, has been rescheduled for Sept. 20 to Oct. 4, shortly after the end of the U.S. open. Novak Djokovic made a flying beginning to the 2020 season, winning the Australian Open in January for his 17th grand slam title and extending his winning streak to 18 matches until the pandemic interrupted sporting events around the world. Among the activities postponed until next year were the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the Euro 2020 soccer championship, as the pandemic has caused 165,000 deaths worldwide. To date, the tennis governing bodies have postponed all tournaments until July 13. Moreover, this year's women's Rogers Cup in Montreal, which was scheduled to take place in August, will also not be held. Why Did Singapore Cases Boost up? A Mysterious Situation
Singapore, less than a month ago, was hailed as one of the countries that got the right response to coronavirus. Encouragingly the city-state appeared to have resolved cases for the rest of the world without implementing the draconian lockout measures faced by millions elsewhere. As time moved on, the second wave hit, hard. According to data from Johns Hopkins University, since 17th March the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Singapore has risen from 266 to more than 5,900. Although thousands of cases are registered each day in the worst-hit countries of Western Europe and the United States, Singapore has a population of 5.7 million people and a total area of approximately 700 square kilometers — it's smaller than New York City — but those figures are higher. But Singapore also has benefits that a lot of larger countries don't possess. It has only one big land boundary, with Malaysia, and can maintain tight control over people coming in by air. This also has a world-class health network and a commitment to more strict laws and regulations that can support a government as it tries to contain a pandemic. In a nutshell, what happened suddenly? The response seems to lie in neglected clusters of cases between migrant workers living in cramped dormitories and an underestimation of the pace at which those infections could spread through a city where lockdown measures had not been enforced to control Singapore cases. Trump Cautions China Could Face Consequences for Virus Outbreak
On Saturday, President Donald Trump warned China that if it was "knowingly responsible" for the novel virus outbreak it will face repercussions, as he intensified Beijing's criticism of its treatment of the outbreak During a daily White House briefing, Mr. Trump said, “It could have been stopped in China before it started and it wasn’t, and the whole world is suffering because of it.” It was the latest U.S. volley in a word war between the two largest economies in the world, indicating heightened friction in relationships at a time when according to experts an unprecedented level of cooperation and collaboration is entailed to cope with the devastating virus outbreak. “If it was a mistake, a mistake is a mistake. But if they were knowingly responsible, yeah, I mean, then sure there should be consequences,” Trump stated. He has not commented on what steps the U.S. might take. Mr. Donald Trump and senior aides have censured China of losing accountability since the coronavirus broke out in its city of Wuhan late last year. He suspended World Health Organization funding this week and accused it of being "China-centric." Washington and Beijing have frequently sparred over the virus in public. Trump initially lavished praise for his statement on China and his counterpart Xi Jinping. However, he and other senior officials have referred to it as the "Chinese virus," and have ramped up their rhetoric in recent days. They also vigorously denied earlier attempts by some Chinese officials to blame the US military for the sources of the virus.
Trump's domestic critics argue that although China performed badly at the outset and still needs to be honest about what happened, he is now trying to use Beijing to help redirect his own response from the shortcomings and take an edge of developing anit-China emotions among some voters for his 2020 re-election bid. White House officials are, however, at the same time aware of the possible backlash if things get too high. The United States relies heavily on China for personal protective equipment which American medical workers urgently need and Trump is also keen to keep track of a hard-won trade agreement. Trump said the relationship between the U.S. and China had been good until recently, citing a multi-billion agricultural deal intended to defuse a brutal trade war. “But then all of a sudden you hear about this,” he stated. Chinese were “embarrassed” he said, and the question was whether what happened with the virus outbreak was “a mistake that got out of control, or was it done deliberately?” “There’s a big difference between those two,” he added. Wuhan Lab Trump also raised concerns about a Wuhan virology laboratory that the coronavirus was likely created as part of China's attempt to demonstrate its ability to recognize and combat viruses. Trump has said his government is trying to conclude whether the virus originated from a Chinese laboratory. As of February, the Chinese state-sponsored Wuhan Institute of Virology debunked claims that the virus might have been synthesized artificially in one of its laboratories or perhaps escaped from such a facility. Wandering off the coronavirus issue, Trump also used the White House briefing to take a swing at supposed Democratic presidential nominee – Joe Biden – and his long record as senator and prior vice president on China. Mr. Trump while focusing on his own confrontational trade terms toward China and using his nickname “Sleepy Joe” for his rival, stated if Biden wins the White House that China and the rest of countries “will take our country.” Trump also raised doubts again regarding China's death rate, which was updated on Friday. China stated 1,300 people died of the virus outbreak in Wuhan were not counted, but dismissed accusations of a cover-up. The United States has the highest number of recorded cases of coronavirus in the world by far, with more than 720,000 infections and more than 37,000 deaths. Amazon Develops Its Own Coronavirus Test for Workers
Amazon has started creating a novel coronavirus test to provide assistance to rebuild the devastated economy. In his annual letter to shareholders, CEO Jeff Bezos emphasizes the need for routine testing for rising industry to "both help keep people safe and help get the economy back up and running." For this to happen, he said that society needs "vastly more testing capacity" than it currently has. He has placed together a team of Amazon employees from various departments to build new resources for Covid-19 to test. Bezos said Amazon would soon start testing "small numbers" of employees. "We are not sure how far we will get in the relevant time frame, but we think it's worth trying, and we stand ready to share anything we learn," he stated. In his message, Bezos said he's concentrating on the health of the global workforce of Amazon, amid persistent criticism that the company is not doing enough and has fired outspoken critics. He further added, the company has made 150 "important process improvements" in both its network and Whole Foods operations besides devising coronavirus test. That encompasses temperature regulation, improved facilities sanitation and employees being given personal protective equipment, such as masks.
Cases of coronavirus have been identified at Amazon facilities in Virginia, California and New York among others, triggering calls for deep cleaning to be closed for fulfillment centers. Employees have also been holding walkouts to oppose the decision by Amazon to hold warehouses open. Recently, Amazon has employed about 200,000 new staff to meet rising demand for critical households and other market-spurred commodities. Scammers have also figured out a fertile sandbox on Amazon's website. Bezos said that during the pandemic it suspended more than 6,000 vendor accounts from around the world on its website for price gouging on critical goods. In addition, it has also withdrawn over 500,000 listings from Amazon's website for price gouging and enhanced reporting to authorities of price gougers. Taiwan Baseball: Being Played and Broadcasted Live
Owing to the Coronavirus pandemic, sports of all sorts have been cancelled around the world. But wait! Not in Taiwan! The thwack of bats striking balls on Thursday echoed Taoyuan International Baseball Stadium as the Rakuten Monkeys clobbered the Uni Lions 15 to 3. Taiwan Baseball is still being played currently. Richard Wang, a Taiwanese broadcaster who presented live English-language commentary broadcast worldwide, said, "That is because we did a pretty good job on the pandemic prevention." The numbers suggest Richard Wang made an appropriate point. As of Friday, Taiwan had reported only 395 cases of coronavirus and just 6 deaths, despite its population of about 24 million people. It also reached a significant milestone on Tuesday. That day, for the first time since 9 March, no new cases were registered. Grand Hotel Taipei celebrated the success by spelling out the word "empty" in lights on the building's facade. Taiwan started working to contain the virus even before the island's first case was identified on 24 January. Taiwanese officials began boarding and checking passengers for signs of fever and pneumonia on flights from Wuhan, China's initial epicenter of the virus. In the light of the list published by the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), within three weeks, the island's Main Disease Command Center had launched more than 120 action items. The relative success of Taiwan fighting the virus has made it possible to play professional sports, although with some modifications. It is not allowed for human audiences to be in the stadium for Thursday’s match-up. Instead, cardboard cut-outs and even mannequins were erected in the stands. "We obviously miss the audience," Wang unfolded by videophone near the dugout just before the game. Baseball games are usually extremely loud in Taiwan, Japan and South Korea since Singalong cheerleaders dance to loud music and lead the crowds. "But we still have the music on," Wang added. This is a lot quieter in the era of coronavirus. They've got robot drummers too. Four metal robots overlooked the ground, complete with blinking eyes and swiveling heads.
They were armed with drum sticks, pounding snare drums all over the place. "The club got these robot figures that play the drums during the games," Wang stated. "We never saw that before. It's fun!" Another thing Taiwan has never done before is free games broadcast to the world — in English. "The only #Live Pro-baseball game on EARTH," Eleven Sports Taiwan revealed in a tweet ahead of Thursday's game that was broadcast online on the website. Simone Kang, general manager of Eleven Sports Taiwan, said, "We hope we can cheer up all the people who might be under the impact of coronavirus." "Don't feel sad ... just watch Taiwan professional baseball." Eleven Sports Taiwan said over two games live-streamed in English this week they reported nearly a million views. Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen has been among those celebrating the launch of Taiwan's professional baseball season. "I really welcome everybody to enjoy our games especially when there's no game in the States, no game in Japan, no game in Korea, no game anywhere!" stated Wang. Taylor Swift Canceled All Her Upcoming Shows in 2020
For the rest of 2020, Taylor Swift cancelled all live appearances and events in what she claimed was an attempt to keep Covid-19 from spreading. "I'm so sad I won't be able to see you guys in concert this year, but I know this is the right decision," Swift wrote on Twitter. "Please, please stay healthy and safe. I'll see you on stage as soon as I can but right now what's important is committing to this quarantine, for the sake of all of us." She revealed on the twitter. Previously scheduled shows will take place in 2021 and, according to a statement attached to her tweet, ticket holders will then be given new tickets. Refunds for the shows in the US will be available May 1st, according to the terms of Ticketmaster, it said. In view of the pandemic, which has affected more than 2 million people worldwide, Taylor Swift is not the only one who has changed touring programs but you will be witnessing other conspicuous personalities postponing or cancelling their performances. Justin Bieber postponed his "Changes" tour, and concerts and activities were postponed by other stars including Niall Horan and Bad Bunny too. In the intervening time, popular music festivals like Coachella were also delayed, while major city cities like New York and Los Angeles said there would be no large events until 2021. Chin’s denies It Concealed the Virus Death Toll in Wuhan
A spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry stated that some medical institutes were overloaded with patients during the early stages of the outbreak and had little link with the disease prevention and control system, but "no concealing existed" on the part of death toll. On Friday, China's Foreign Ministry said Wuhan's upward review of coronavirus cases and deaths was a matter of historical and public duty, denying claims that it was a cover-up. The "timely" revision was necessary for scientific decision-making, as well as being a "response to social issues," Zhao Lijian, Foreign Ministry spokesperson, said. He said some medical facilities were stunned with patients during the early stages of the outbreak and had failed to communicate with the network of disease prevention and control. "Missed and mistaken reporting, objectively, did occur, but no concealing existed or was allowed." Issues have long swirled around the accuracy of Chinese case reporting, with Wuhan in January going in particular several days without reporting new cases or death toll. Many U.S. officials, including President Trump, flirted with an unfounded hypothesis that a Chinese lab had loosened the latest coronavirus to the world that permitted it to escape. There is already an emerging scientific consensus. Yet, scientists generally believe study of the genome of the new coronavirus rules out the possibility of it being created by humans, as indicated by some conspiracy theories.
The U.S. worked mainly to "confuse the public, divert attention and shirk accountability." Zhao – spokesperson – in Beijing, said. "We urge the US to stop political manipulation, do their part, and focus more on how to overcome the virus and boost the economy as soon as possible," he stated. The new coronavirus causes mild to moderate symptoms for most people, such as fever and cough which will clear up in two to three weeks. But the virus is extremely infectious, and can spread through those with noticeable signs that are mild or not. This can cause more serious illness, including pneumonia, which may lead to death for others, particularly older adults and those with established health problems. That represented a rise of 3,856 deaths over the past 24 hours, but that number possibly encompasses "probable" virus-linked deaths that had not been counted before. New York City said this week it would add to its official report 3,778 "probable" deaths from the virus. Mexican health officers confirmed 578 new novel coronavirus cases and 60 new deaths, bringing the total to 6,875 cases and 546 deaths in the region. Sports Competitions Cancelled; When Will Those Be Watched?
The world is facing a shutdown of sports competitions for the first time in decades with many clubs predicted to fail financially. As of April 17, the spread of the coronavirus pandemic worldwide resulted in more than 150,000 deaths and more than two million infections. As countries around the world reel from the outbreak's human and economic effects, sporting events around the globe have been especially hard hit. The most notable sporting event to be canceled was the Olympics in Tokyo 2020, now rescheduled for summer 2021. Globally, the sports industry is worth $480 billion to $620 billion, and worldwide markets will be taking a huge hit this year. Football: Sports Competitions in Europe
Italy, which has now become one of the hardest hit countries because of the coronavirus, was still going ahead with Series A football games in the beginning but without the fans. As the virus grasped and spread across the country, the Italian government took increasingly desperate steps to halt the spread. The Government declared in early March that it would suspend all domestic games, a move that has not yet been lifted. Likewise, several matches were canceled by the German Football League and they pointed in a statement about what the financial implications could be for certain clubs. “The goal is still to finish the season by the summer - from a sporting point of view, but especially because an early end to the season could have consequences that could threaten the existence of some clubs." Spain is among the worst affected countries, with more than 180,000 diseases and almost 20,000 deaths. LaLiga and the Spanish soccer Federation (RFEF) have canceled football nationwide until further notice. Given the spread of the virus in the country, reopening football games will take a long time. Russia moved early to cancel football matches and other sporting activities, following the lead of other European countries such as France and the Netherlands. Originally, however, the suspension was to last until early April, as the coronavirus epidemic has escalated in Russia, the planned reopening date now is the end of May. Russian football is one of the top five leagues in Europe, according to the Moscow Times, and is losing more than $12 million per week, putting financial pressure on many clubs. It wasn't until March 20 when, due to the coronavirus outbreak, Turkish Youth and Sports Minister Muharrem Kasapoglu made the announcement to suspend their football, basketball and volleyball leagues. The country reported the first case on March 11, and the government has since worked rapidly to try to cover the virus. With broadcasting profits on stake and an imminent suspension of the English Premier League, football clubs in the United Kingdom are mulling if footballing could simply be a "TV event." With several football teams nearly at the end of the season, clubs are working together to figure out whether matches could be played at Wembley Stadium, behind closed doors, without spectators. In Europe, the Champions League and the Europa League could be left months from catching the coronavirus, said the UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin, earlier this month. Football: Sports Competitions in Arica Qualifying games for the 2021 African Cup of Nations have been postponed in Africa putting the competition for next year at risk. Early measures were taken by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as one of the largest footballing facilities on the continent although confirmed cases were small. “Following the growing concerns of the Covid-19 virus and the declaration by the World Health Organization (WHO) describing it as a pandemic, CAF has decided to postpone the following competitions until further notice,” CAF stated in a statement. Football: Sports Competitions in Asia The Chinese Football Association said all domestic games at all levels would be suspended on January 30, in a bid to curb the coronavirus outbreak. China was the epicenter of the virus at the time. Mid-March, the Asian Football Confederation voted to postpone all competitions until further notice after several member countries had postponed their domestic games or lockout imposed. “Following the imposition of further preventive measures and travel restrictions by several national governments due to the current Covid-19 pandemic,” the entity stated in a statement. “The Asian Football Confederation has decided today to postpone all AFC Cup 2020 matches until further notice.” Olympic Games
The year's signature sporting event would have been the Olympics in Tokyo. Japan's last summer Olympics was in 1964, and has held two winter Olympics in between. Initially, reluctant to cancel the Olympics and only after national teams started withdrawing their competitors, the International Olympic Committee and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe agreed at the end of March to postpone the games until the summer of 2021. In history, the Olympics were postponed just three times, and only because of world wars: 1916, 1940 and 1944. Cricket
The cricket world was gearing up for the new season of sports competitions when the coronavirus brought it to an abrupt halt. One of Pakistan, India and Bangladesh's most famous sports, the seasons were either postponed or cancelled in all three countries. The billion-dollar Indian Premier League has been rescheduled to April 15, but with India still in lockdown it remains uncertain when it will continue to be indefinitely postponed again. Likewise, in the knockout stages in late March, the Pakistani Super League was also cancelled after English cricketer Alex Hales, who had been in Pakistan for training, sent a warning that he may have contracted the coronavirus. In England, another cricket powerhouse, there will be no official cricket games in England or Wales until May 28 at the most primitive. Tennis
In a statement the International Tennis Federation (ITF) said 900 tournaments were postponed. The London-headquartered governing body has also announced that it would furlough half of its staff as it strives to deal with the coronavirus fallout. In an identical move, the Women’s Tennis Association said, "The professional tennis season is now suspended through June 7, 2020, including the ATP Challenger Tour and ITF World Tennis Tour.” This was also in early April that one of the highest profile tennis tournaments, Wimbledon, was postponed for the first time since World War II, a decision that seemed inevitable. The 134th Championships would instead be performed in the summer of 2021. International tennis rankings have been frozen, too, before the season begins, which is still uncertain. Basketball
Earlier this year, the death of basketball great Kobe Bryant in January sent shockwaves through the basketball world and other sports competitions beyond. His horrific death was now overtaken by incidents that influenced basketball, too. On March 11 the National Basketball Association (NBA) agreed to suspend the season after a positive coronavirus test by one of its members. They stated in a statement, “The NBA is suspending gameplay...until further notice,” the league told, “The NBA will use this hiatus to determine next steps for moving forward in regard to the coronavirus pandemic.” The Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) has postponed until further notice the start of the regular season, scheduled to begin on May 15. “As developments continue to emerge around the COVID-19 pandemic, including the extension of the social distancing guidelines in the United States through April 30, the WNBA will postpone the start of its training camps and the tip of the regular season originally scheduled for May 15,” the WNBA stated in a statement. Formula 1
Formula 1 unfolded in a statement, “Our intention is to start the 2020 season at some point this summer. At this time no-one can be certain of exactly when the situation will improve, but when it does, we will be ready to go racing again.” At least nine Grand Prix so far have been cancelled or postponed with little sign that things are going to return to normal. On April 19, the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai, scheduled to take place. In addition, the Grand Prix in Azerbaijan slated to take place on June 7 has also been cancelled. China Dismisses U.S. Claim – Low-Level Nuclear Test
This is committed to a nuclear test moratorium after the U.S. says China might have carried out a clandestine explosion says Beijing. China says it is committed to a nuclear test moratorium after a US State Department report which stated Beijing may have performed underground, secret nuclear experiments at low level. On Thursday, Zhao Lijian – foreign ministry spokesman – stated that China has successfully fulfilled obligations to arms control treaties and said the false allegations made by Washington are not worth refuting. He said, "China has always adopted a responsible attitude, earnestly fulfilling the international obligations and promises it has assumed." "The US criticism of China is entirely groundless, without foundation, and not worth refuting," he added. The argument made by the State Department, first stated by the Wall Street Journal, could exacerbate relations already strained by US charges that the global COVID-19 pandemic resulted from the mishandling of the 2019 coronavirus outbreak in the town of Wuhan in Beijing. US worries about potential violations of a 'zero-yield' test blasts requirement by Beijing have been triggered during 2019 by activities at China's Lop Nur nuclear test site, uncovered in the State Department report.
Zero yield means a nuclear test where the form of explosive chain reaction caused by the detonation of a nuclear warhead does not occur. The very report, without presenting evidence of a low-yield test, stated, "China's possible preparation to operate its Lop Nur test site year-round, its use of explosive containment chambers, extensive excavation activities at Lop Nur, and a lack of transparency on its nuclear testing activities ... raise concerns regarding its adherence to the zero yield standard," The lack of accountability in Beijing included the blocking of data transmissions from sensors linked to a control center run by the international agency that verifies compliance with a treaty banning nuclear tests. The Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) of 1996 provides for measures intended to protect nuclear weapons. A CTBT spokesperson who tests compliance with the deal told the Wall Street Journal data transmission from China's five sensor stations has not been disrupted since the end of August 2019, despite an interruption that began in 2018. A senior U.S. official said that worries about China's research practices backed the case of President Donald Trump for China joining the U.S. and Russia in arms control talks accord to substitute the 2010 New START treaty between Moscow and Washington that expires in February. New START required the United States and Russia to deploy no more than 1,550 nuclear warheads, the lowest level in decades, and the land and submarine missiles and bombers that delivered them were limited.
The U.S. senior official said on the condition of anonymity, "the pace and manner by which the Chinese government is modernizing its stockpile is worrying, destabilizing and illustrates why China should be brought into the global arms control framework." China, estimated to have around 300 nuclear weapons, has dismissed Trump's plan on many occasions, claiming that its nuclear arsenal is defensive and poses no threat. Russia, France and Britain – three of the five nuclear powers that are internationally acknowledged – signed and ratified the CTBT which still entails endorsement by 44 countries of the world to become in international law. China and the US are among eight signatories that refused to ratify it. Yet China has proclaimed adherence to its terms, while the U.S. has maintained a moratorium on unilateral research since 1992.
