Sims In Bloom: Generation 1 Pt. 14 (Big City, Biggest Pumpkin)
When Spencer returned from Selvadorada, Everett visited her at home. Spencer was none the wiser to Heather and Everett's kiss, and she and her boyfriend lost their virginity to each other in her family’s animal shed. When Heather found out, she plastered on a smile for her friends, but Holly knew she was devastated. She suggested the family return to the city for another day trip to take her mind off her drama, this time to the Arts Quarter near the waterfront.
San Myshuno was hosting a flea market, but the kids played on the playground nearby while Neal and Heather played basketball. Daisy and Holly, meanwhile, spent hours fishing beneath the San Myshuno Bridge, catching fish they’d never find in the River Bagley back home. It was a wonderful bonding experience for them, and Holly started to muse about life catching fish in the Simlandia Sea, working in big ocean trawlers docked at the mouth of San Myshuno Bay.
Holly was a petite girl who loved makeup, so this revelation was a bit of a surprise to Daisy, but it was the thought of her growing up and leaving Henford that filled her mother with the most dread. Luckily, Holly was still far too young, and even though Daisy’s new job kept her away from home more than ever, she cherished every minute with her family. When it got too dark to fish, they rejoined the others at a karaoke bar, where they’d stumbled on a contest which River won. His energy doing Sinatra-style jazz won the crowd over several accomplished singers – San Myshuno was a paradise for aspiring entertainers.
Daisy and Neal were surprised to run into Abby Goldbloom and Hayes Harms but thrilled to catch up and hear how love had beaten the odds with them. The lonely creature keeper had finally been brought from his shell by the outgoing grocer. After the birth of their son, Elliot, she sold her grocery, and he sold his cottage in the Bramblewood; Neal and Daisy hadn’t seen them since they’d moved to Brindleton Bay and adopted an Australian Shepherd. For her part, Heather hated hearing about their happily ever after, but she kept her tortured feelings to herself.
(NOTE: After I took all the Henford NPCs and made them playable, the game generated replacements for the grocer, delivery person, creature keeper, and mayor. I use MCCC cheats to alter relationships, like making Kim Goldbloom the daughter of Ian and Derek Moody-McMillan, and I made Agnes and Agatha an old married couple and set Agatha as Bob Pancakes' mother. The game generated clones of Agatha and Agnes in their place, but Abby and Hayes were the new grocer and creature keeper so I played out the in-game creature keeper/grocer lore a little as a side plot, and used MCCC again to make Abby pregnant with Hayes' kid before I made them both playable and moved them to their own lot.)
The family worked together to grow two oversized pumpkins and an enormous watermelon for Finchwick’s Oversized Crop Fair. River got to put his name on the biggest, juiciest pumpkin because he’d helped his parents the most with weeding, so River won the first-place ribbon. Only the third first prize the Nesbitts had ever won from the Finchwick Fair, Heather’s smaller pumpkin placed second and Neal’s watermelon placed third, solely because it was more of a summer plant than a fall one. Now Daisy’s prizes for her chocolate pie and garden crops had to share space on the walls of their home. In all the fair was a great day, and the townsfolk thought it fitting an astrobiologist would be able to grow the best and biggest produce Henford had ever seen.
With Harvestfest around the corner, would the Nesbitts' fresh produce grace their holiday table? And would Daisy ever find a UFO fruit? ->

Oh what about Farmer with a horse girl? Does he have horses. My dream is to basically be a hometeader so I keep wondering what his farm has.
Oh yeah, he has horses!! Ok, so this is how I view his farm. He has the homestead of cause, which is this pale yellow colour (for some reason? it's not even a colour I like, but it's what I imagined it as when I wrote the first one). It's two stories with a wrap-around porch and has big white shutters with those pretty shaped cut-outs.
Then the infamous barn is the stereotypical red and white barn. But it's seen better days. The red is more of a dull/brownish red and the white has chipped away and now it's more wood than paint.
I see him having a few fields of wheat/barley. This is more of a way to feed his animals rather than a profit. But if he has enough left over he will sell.
His main profit is his bulls. I don't see him being able to sell cattle for meat or anything too intensive. It's mostly just him and he only gets seasonal workers to help with the harvest or just when he needs them. So instead he runs a bull stud. Breeding the best bulls in the state. It's a small operation but he charges a hefty price for quality so it works. He has about 2 bulls he keeps for 4-5 years before replacing them, and about 30-50 cows/heifers depending on the season.
Then he has his pigs, thats how his father made his money breeding boars, but pigs are noisy as all hell, so the farmer has it more as a side project rather than the main source of income. He has a pair he keeps and he then sells the litter.
Then he has his chickens, a good 20 of them. One big red rooster and all the rest hens. He sells the eggs he doesn't want either as produce or as incubator eggs. He has this huge chicken coop he built himself.
Then he has one or two dairy cows. He breeds them with his bulls and shares the milk with the calf. Or sells the calf depending on if it's a bull calf. Doesn't sell the milk, but uses it for himself (after pasteurisation of course). He'll most likely sell the heifer calf later on.
Then there are the horses. He doesn't have many. Maybe one or two and they're used as transport mainly through his fields or to round up the cattle. They aren't anything special either just quarter horses, but they get the job done. I can see the horse girl reader just falling in love with them and getting mad when they find out he calls them Horse, and Also Horse. Reader will braid their hair and beg farmer to let them go for rides. He agrees as long as he's with them.
Then he's got a cat that just roams around. He doesn't even own it really. It just showed up and never left.
Then there are his working dogs. If I hadn't implied he was from the Us south/Texas, I would have given him kelpies. They are the best working dogs! At least in my biased australian opinion. I was thinking of giving him cattle dogs (blue/red heelers), cause they are recognised in the States but cause his cattle are breeding stock he won't want the dogs to be overly aggressive and bite their heels (they can be trained out of them but easier to get another breed).
Ok, I did some googling and cause I have three kelpies myself, I'm giving him some. I don't care if the us doesn't recognise the breed (rude) but it's not unheard of for them to be used in the States. So yay! Anyway, he only has two cause he has such a small herd. They aren't inside dogs cause they are primarily working dogs so they get this nice kennel outside. And cause I love country music and by extension, he does too, they are called Pancho and Lefty.
He also has a veggie garden and grows most of his own food. If you are a vego/vegan DO NOT go into the small shed out the back. That chicken he took in there does not come back out alive.
Anyway! Hope you liked it. I got a bit over the top

Frances Alda sings Ave Maria - vitaphone film 1928
Fanny Jane Davis, who rose to international prominence under the stage name Frances Alda, was one of the first of a long line of New Zealand opera singers to achieve such fame. She came from a strong musical background: her maternal grandparents, Fanny and Martin Simonsen, were important opera impresarios in Australasia during the 1870s and 1880s. Five of their children, including Fanny's mother, Leonore, were professional singers, and one, Frances Saville, achieved European fame as a member of the Vienna Hofoper. Fanny's father, David Davis, a merchant, was a gifted amateur musician and some of her paternal relatives sang in J. C. Williamson's light opera companies. Such an inheritance almost predestined her for a career on the musical stage.
After Fanny Davis was born in Christchurch on 31 May 1879 David Davis objected to his wife resuming her professional career, and the couple divorced in September 1880. Thereafter, Fanny and her older brother alternately lived with relatives or accompanied their mother on tour. When Leonore Davis died in San Francisco on 29 December 1884, shortly after marrying Herman Adler, her two children finally found a stable home with their Simonsen grandparents in Melbourne.
Fanny Davis's musical gifts were apparent early. She studied both piano and violin, but her greatest enthusiasm was for singing. Although she later took lessons from the distinguished Australian tenor Armes Beaumont, much of her technical and interpretive knowledge came from listening to her beloved grandmother teach. She seems to have found her grandfather a forbidding figure. Her grandmother's untimely death in 1896 precipitated Fanny's decision to leave home and earn her own living. In March 1897 Melbourne periodicals reported her engagement by the J. C. Williamson organisation; she was billed as 'Francie Adler'.
Her professional début, in the Adelaide production of the musical extravaganza Matsa, was followed by a small role in the Australian première of the hit musical The gay Parisienne. Subsequently she appeared in pantomime, sang in productions of Gilbert and Sullivan and other light operas, and performed with the Harry Rickards variety company at Sydney's Tivoli Theatre. In August 1901 she left Australia to pursue her vocal ambitions in Europe. At this time she amended her first names from Fanny Jane to the more elegant Frances Jeanne. She also began to falsify her age, shedding four years to create the persistent fiction that she had been born in 1883.
In Paris she became a pupil of Mathilde Marchesi, who gave her the stage name 'Alda' and arranged her successful European début, at the Opéra-Comique on 15 April 1904, in the title role in Massenet's Manon. For the next three seasons she gained experience as a leading soprano at the Théâtre royale de la Monnaie, Brussels. Her career also gathered momentum elsewhere, with operatic débuts at London's Covent Garden (1906), Parma (1907), La Scala, Milan (1908), and Warsaw (1908), as well as numerous concert engagements.
On 7 December 1908 Alda made her début at the Metropolitan Opera, New York, singing Gilda in Verdi's Rigoletto. The 'Met' was home to the world's most star-studded opera company. Alda spent 22 seasons there from 1908 until her retirement from the operatic stage on 28 December 1929. During this period she gave 281 performances at the Met itself and a further 88 while touring with the company. Critics considered the finest of her 26 roles to be Mimi in Puccini's La Bohème. She sang it 80 times – a company record – partnering all the leading tenors of her era from Caruso to Gigli. Other successes included the title role in Puccini's Manon Lescaut, Nannetta in Verdi's Falstaff and Desdemona in his Otello, Margherita in Boito's Mefistofele, Marguerite in Gounod's Faust and Lady Harriet in Flotow's Martha. She also participated in the premières of several short-lived American operas.
Between Met seasons, Alda undertook extensive recital tours throughout America, and performed several times at South American opera houses. She made her gramophone début in 1910, eventually recording more than 120 titles for the Victor Talking Machine Company. These included two New Zealand items, 'Waiata Māori' and 'Hine e hine'. After retiring from the stage she took part in a pioneering series of radio productions of Puccini operas and made three short musical films. Her autobiography, Men, women and tenors, was published in 1937. Notable for its candour and writing style, the book contains much good advice for young singers. It also makes clear Alda's allegiance to New Zealand.
Although she spent very little time in the country of her birth, Alda consistently described herself as a New Zealander. After revisiting the country during an Australasian recital tour in 1927, her adherence became wholehearted. She maintained contact with several paternal relatives, and despite the precautionary acquisition of American citizenship in 1939 continued to emphasise her New Zealand origins and identify strongly with the country and its people.
Alda's decorous stage presence contrasted with her tempestuous private life. Bluntly outspoken and acutely sensitive to slights, yet impulsively generous and with a robust sense of fun, she made enemies and friends in equal proportion. She was an advocate of women's rights in the music profession, and never hesitated to resort to law on her own behalf. For much of her career she was handicapped by her marriage, at New York, on 3 April 1910, to the Met's general manager, Giulio Gatti-Casazza. His need to avoid any hint of favouritism restricted her opportunities, while she felt a continual need to prove her artistic worth – as much to herself as the public. She divorced him in 1928; they had no children. On 14 April 1941, at Charleston, South Carolina, she married New York advertising executive Ray Vir Den. Alda spent an affluent retirement, entertaining lavishly at her Long Island home and indulging in her passion for travel. She died of cerebral haemorrhage in Venice on 18 September 1952.

Bushfire / Wildfire preparation and survival (long post)
Because of climate change, we will be facing increasingly difficult fire seasons not just for this year, but for what I can only assume will be every year from here on out. While I fully recommend contacting your local fire services to find information most helpful to you, here is a list of general advice for bush/wildfire preparation and survival. This list will cover:
General things you should know before preparing for fire season
Pre fire season preparation
Your evacuation kit
What to do on fire risk days
What to do if you choose to evacuate
What to do when you evacuate too late and your car is about to be caught in the fire
What to do if you choose to stay and defend your home
Firefighting tools
How to defend your home from a fire
What to do as the fire front approaches
What to do if your home catches on fire while you're in it
No house no car no evacuation centre- best places to use as emergency shelter
I am Australian so I will be using the word "bushfire" because that is what I am familiar with, please feel free to replace it with wildfire or whatever your local term is. Information is taken from the CFA, Fire TAS, and the NSW rural fire service but please check with your local fire authorities for the best information for your area.
General things that you should know:
You don't have to be in the middle of nowhere to be at risk for a fire. If you are located near paddocks, grasslands, costal scrub, or if your neighbourhood borders bushland (or woodlands/forests for my non aussie friends) you can be at risk.
Familiarise yourself with your local fire danger rating system (FDRS) I can not stress this enough. Go on your local fire services website now and look it up. I will be using the Australian FDRS as a reference because it is what I am most familiar with. It looks like this:
You should understand what your local FDRS levels are, because they are extremely important tool for communicating the possible severity of fires, and can help you make important decisions on how you should act.
You should also familiarise yourself with your local wind patterns. You would be surprised by how many people die in bushfires because they are unfamiliar with wind change patterns and get caught out.
Pre fire season preparation- your house
Prepare your property! This is basic fire safety, and most people who live rural will be familiar with the motions but for those who aren't in the know:
Keep the grass in your lawn cut to 10cm (4in) or less. Rake your lawn so there aren't loose leaves or twigs in the grass. Clean your gutters while you're at it.
Store any wood piles and flammable liquids away from your house (put it in a shed or any building that isn't attached to your house).
Cut back any trees that are overhanging your roofs. Generally you want 10m (or 33ft) of clearance. Prune the lower branches of shrubs to separate them from any possible fuel underneath them.
Line your garden beds with pebbles instead of mulch, if you have any shrubs or bushes under windows get rid of them.
Evacuation kit
You should have an evacuation kit ready to go during fire season. This is different for every individual but here are a few things that should go into it:
Scan all of your important documents (birth certificates, wills, passports, drivers licences, insurance documents, etc) and put them on a USB. Put this in your kit alongside the documents.
Your medication. Your prescription paperwork if it is not digital.
Portable chargers for your devices.
A battery-operated radio (check the batteries regularly).
100% wool blankets. Enough for everybody in your household to be fully covered. Do not pack anything synthetic. These blankets need to be accessible if you are travelling by car so do not pack them in the bottom of any bags.
"Bushfire fits", clothing that is either wool, heavy cotton, or denim. Once again, no synthetic fabrics. Shoes should be leather boots and not sandals or runners. There needs to be enough to clothe everyone in your household.
If you have pets you need to have their carriers, medication, food/water and bowls ready.
You should also have food and (more importantly) water for yourself and everyone in your household ready to go should you need to evacuate.
Other pre fire season preparation things
Practice packing your car at least once so you know exactly how long it will take you to get ready if you do end up needing to leave.
Talk with your neighbours. If you can't drive they might be able to drive you, if they're staying they may be willing to help defend your house if you let them use your water. You'll never know if you don't ask.
You need to talk with the people in your household and decide whether you will stay to defend your home from the fire or evacuate. If you want to evacuate you need to agree on which FDRS danger level you will evacuate on, or what your trigger to leave will be.
If you will leave, decide ahead of time how you will leave and where you will go. In a fire, phone services ay go down; have a physical map that shows not only your main evacuation route, but also your backup ones. Have these clearly marked.
On fire risk days
Stay informed. Listen to your local radio and use more than one source of information if available. You want to know if a fire starts near you.
If you have a deck or verandah with mats or furniture on it, move them away from your house. Hanging pots need to go too.
If you have a car behind an electric gate or garage door take it out and have the car facing the road ready to go.
Ensure your evacuation kit is ready to go. Make sure that everyone is aware of the evacuation trigger and has agreed to leave.
If you choose to evacuate
Leaving early is always the safest option. Many things can be replaced, but your life can't. This is the official stance of the Australian government. Leaving early (as in, before the fire even starts) will prevent any issues being caught in your car during a bushfire can bring. You do not want to drive through heavy smoke, and you do not want to accidentally block roads for emergency services.
Make sure everybody is in their bushfire fits, even if you can't see the fire. Better safe than sorry.
Turn off your home's gas and (if you have the time) plug your downpipes and fill your gutters partially with water.
Close and lock all of your doors and windows.
Leave your front gate open.
Tell somebody that you are leaving, and where you are leaving to.
Late evacuation- my car is about to be hit by fire
If you evacuate late there is a chance you may find that you are unable to drive safely due to smoke or flames. It is considered extremely dangerous to shelter in a car, however you can do the following to increase your chances of survival:
Do not park on a road. Emergency service workers do not need to be dealing with car crashes as well as the fires.
Park your car away from dense bushland, preferably in a clear area. If you can find a rock wall to buffer some of the radiant heat even better. Face your car towards the oncoming fire.
Stay in the car, close all windows and doors. Shut all vents and turn off your engine.
Cover yourself with the wool blankets from your evacuation kit. sit or lie down below window level. Drink water.
Once the fire has passed, get out of the car and move to burnt ground.
If you choose to stay
The best way to prepare to stay for a bushfire is to have an action plan that you have both written down and practiced with your household. During a bushfire there is a high likelihood of service disruption both during and after a fire, so do not expect for there to be phone service, internet access, electricity, or water. You should expect:
Embers and spot fires which will move ahead of the main fire. Embers can also land for hours after a fire has passed. Embers are the number one cause of house fires when there is a bushfire.
Darkness. You will never truly understand how dark it can get in a bushfire until you are in it. It's darker than midnight.
Smoke will also make the air difficult to breathe. Invest in good face masks.
Local roads can be blocked from fallen trees or power lines, burnt out cars, dead animals, or emergency service vehicles.
Radiant heat. This is the biggest killer of bushfires. There is very little way around this. Long term radiant heat exposure will kill you long before the main bushfire gets to you. You can block radiant heat with solid walls (such as brick or concrete). Stay away from windows.
Your weapons in the fight against fire
You will need at a bare minimum 10,000 litres (2200 gallons) of water to defend your home. Have a petrol/diesel pump ready to use close by your water source.
In Australia you can find specialty firefighting hoses. Check your local availabilities, but you can still use a gardening hose in a pinch (be aware that plastic will melt once it gets too hot, get ones with metal fittings). Any hose you use should be able to reach all the way around your house.
Sprinklers. Ensure any plastic hoses connected to them are buried so they don't melt.
Buckets. And mops. Yes, you can whack an ember to death.
Metal rakes and shovels which will help break up burning materials.
Metal ladders so you can reach your roof.
Defending your home
If you are planning on staying to defend your home there needs to be at lease two fit adults. They both need to be physically and mentally willing to work for several hours in difficult and distressing conditions.
Everyone who stays also needs to be aware that there is a chance of dying. Survival is not guaranteed if you stay to protect your home.
Make sure you are all wearing appropriate clothing. Put on your bushfire fit. Wear eye protection and face masks to block out smoke. As funny as the picture of the bloke in his shirt and thongs standing on his roof with a hose is, it is a monumentally dangerous move.
Turn off your gas supply, air conditioners, and close all of your windows and doors facing outside.
Block your downpipes and fill your gutters with water, put wet wool blankets (or cotton towels) inside of windows and as door stops.
Check that pets are safely contained, and your car is ready to go in case of a late evacuation.
When embers appear, turn on your sprinklers.
You will need to patrol for embers, and put out any spot fires which occur. As embers float through the air, you will also need to check your roof as your home can easily be set alight from roof embers.
You will be patrolling for embers for several hours, as they can show up before, during, and after the fire front has passed.
Keep hydrated, even if you don't feel like drinking.
As the fire front approaches
You will begin to feel the radiant heat. Remember- you will need to protect yourself from this. Once the heat outside is unbearable you must retreat indoors or you will die.
Hose down any decks and/or garden beds connected to your house.
Collect your fire fighting equipment and bring them indoors. Anything plastic will melt. There are specialty fittings that will let you attach your fire fighting gear to washing machine taps to make it easier to fight fires inside your house.
Stay hydrated. Drink water, and splash your face with water to cool down.
If you are caught in your home during a bushfire
You will still need to patrol inside your home to check for embers starting fire. This includes going into your roof space, as embers enter most easily through the roof.
Make sure the room/s you are sheltering in have two exits- one to another room and one to outside your house. Keep all of the doors inside your house open.
Do not shelter in a room with frosted windows as you want to see what is going on outside.
If your house catches fire and it can't be put out
Close the door to any room that is on fire. Move away from the area/s on fire, keep low to avoid breathing in smoke. Close all doors behind you so you know not to turn back.
As soon as the main fire has passed your house get out! Please do not stay in your on fire house. Instead move to burnt ground.
Drink some water. The last thing you need is to be dehydrated.
Once the fire front has passed
Use your own judgement on whether the outside radiant heat is bearable. Remember, solid walls protect you from radiant heat, so it may be hotter outside your house. Once you can go outside, you are back on outdoor ember patrol.
Do not take your bushfire fit off. Yes, even if it is warm. You don't want bare skin in bushfire conditions.
Put out any fires that have started near or on your house.
Hose down the outside of your house, all of it including the roof and under the floorboards.
Call your friends and family. Let them know you are alive, and that the front has passed you.
Drink water. Do not die of dehydration or heat stroke now.
You will need to stay vigilant for several hours after the front has passed- embers can still start fires.
Places to shelter
If you are caught in the open with no options available to you, you can use these as a last resort shelter:
A stationary car in a clear area such as a bare field.
A ploughed paddock, field or park.

Hathai grabbed Eric by the elbow and hustled the protesting youth into the woodshed. “It wasn’t me, you crazy witch!” the gardener’s assistant angrily shouted at the sixth former. “Then who else was it?” the girl demanded, equally angry. “Who else would be spiteful enough to try to ruin Aranya’s opportunity to go to Bangkok University? Who else hates us Thai girls for taking the opportunities you threw away?” Eric simply scowled at her, saying nothing. Hathai grabbed a coil of white rope from where it hung from a nail in the wall of the shed. “I can’t prove it was you yet, Eric, but I will!” she told the young man. “And you’re staying here till I do!” Then the girl advanced and seized the young man by the wrist, twisting his arm behind his back until he cried out. “Give me your other arm!” she insisted. “Get lost, you cow!” cried out Eric in anguish, but the pain of the armlock was such he did as she said. “I’m tying you up and locking you in here while I search your room!” Hathai said as she swiftly and expertly tied Eric’s wrists together. She stepped back then and observed the now bound Australian youth. “I bet I’ll find Aranya’s missing exam paper too!” the girl said caustically to her prisoner. Eric again said nothing, but twisted his tied wrists so they emerged together at his side. He then eloquently raised the middle finger of his left hand at her. “Creep!” retorted the sixth former and slammed the woodshed door, locking it behind her.

Day 34 - Cacabelos to Trabadelo
Our phones are showing 14+ miles today with a 450m hill climbed.
We’ve got the get out down to pat now, we woke about 20 to 7 and were out by 10 past. There were 4 women in the dorm but the lady opposite was snoring really loudly. I think I must be getting used to it now as I slept quite well.
We stopped for breakfast in Cacabelos before we left as it was going to be quite a trek before our first stop.
The view from the bridge going out of town was very pretty. The path initially followed the road uphill and every now and then we’d look back on a lovely view.
We soon left the road and wandered back into wine country with people tending their vines and driving their tractors on the dirt tracks.
The views over to the mountains were really lovely and we passed through an old village with another couple of doer-uppers for Jane to tackle.
Eventually we arrived in Villafranca Del Bierzo, a sizeable interesting looking town with an impressive castle.
We stopped for a while for coffee then wandered on. On the other side of the river bridge was an option for a diversion up a hill. It would only add a couple of kms but I didn’t think it was such a great idea with Jane’s ankle. However, she wanted to test it out on a proper hill so up we went.
It was so nice to be away from the road and also to find out that our hill legs hadn’t deserted us. I think I worked out it was a 450m ish climb. We initially went up through scrub and trees and eventually ended up in a very fragrant pine forest. The views from the top were tremendous.
There were no facilities so we stopped at the top of a big climb for a drink and some snacks we had brought with us. We kept crossing over with a Portuguese man who we found out later had accidentally taken the mountain route!
After over 6 miles we approached a village, Pradela, serenaded by the sounds of cow bells. To our upmost joy and relief the cafe/Albergue was open. They made us fresh lemonade with real lemons, a cheese and tomato baguette, and home made walnut cake, and boy did it go down well.
There was only 3 kms to our final stop but it was all downhill, and quite a steep downhill at that. Luckily the path wasn’t stony and was straightforward to walk, if carefully.
We got to Casa Susi, our Albergue, not long after 3. We could do a whole blog on just this place. The couple who run it are an Australian women who bought the place in 2016 I think, and her Spanish husband who walked in as a Pilgrim and who never left! There are only 10 beds which are all in what would have been the cow shed. The gardens are lovely with a hammock and a cottage garden where they grow their own veg. A path leads down to the river where I had a paddle. Unfortunately a road runs over the river.
We all had the evening meal together, hosts included. They started by telling us their story, then we had to go around the table introducing ourselves and saying a bit about our Camino experiences so far. Dinner was vegetarian, wild garlic pesto and pasta, a white bean stew with veg, and home made tiramisu washed down with the local organic wine.
We’re all now settling for bed. Jane and I have a really short day tomorrow, just 10kms, as we’re meeting up with Nicole and the Texans for Nicole’s birthday.

As an Australian who moved to the UK, it drives me insane the insistence people have in this country that their cats are not harmful to the wildlife and wild bird populations, that they're somehow impervious to harm from cars, dogs and other people, and that domestic cats NEED to be able to roam outdoors and shit in people's gardens to have a fulfilled lifestyle.
There's no larger predators in the UK that I know of that regularly predate on cats, but still every other day on the local facebook group there's similar posts to the ones that were noted above - "Has anyone seen Mr Fluffy? He always comes home at night, but we haven't seen him in 3 weeks, everyone check your garages and sheds in case he got locked in by accident!" Two posts down "Black and white cat hit by car on such and such road, left the body by the roundabout, tag says Mr Fluffy"
And a lot of the cat rescue orgs won't let people who don't have garden access for their cats adopt. So if you live in a flat or apartment and want a cat, fuck you. Regardless of how much experience you have with cats, and how much you plan to make sure they have adequate exercise and enrichment. It drives me round the bend.
you tell a bitch to keep their cat indoors and suddenly their town is the first in the world to have eradicated every viral, bacterial and parasitic disease, they invented completely harmless cars, dogs and predators dont exist either but somehow the native songbird population is fine since the cats in this place have lost the hunting instinct, there's no pollutants or toxic plants and human cruelty has ceased to exist. and mr mittens has a chip in his brain that will explode if he doesnt go outside 10 hours of the day

How to Design Your Ideal Patio Rockhampton
Now that you know why AI Sheds is the top choice for patio Rockhampton, it's time to think about designing your ideal outdoor space. Here are some key factors to consider when planning your new patio:
1. Purpose and Functionality
Before you begin designing your patio, it’s important to think about how you plan to use the space. Do you want a quiet retreat for reading and relaxation? Or do you need an area for hosting family gatherings and entertaining guests? The purpose of your patio will determine its layout, size, and features.
For example, if you plan to entertain frequently, you may want a large, open area with enough space for a dining table, seating, and possibly an outdoor kitchen or BBQ area. If you're creating a personal oasis, you may prefer a smaller patio with comfortable seating, ambient lighting, and landscaping elements that create a tranquil atmosphere.
2. Size and Layout
Once you’ve decided on the purpose of your patio, it’s time to consider the size and layout. The available space in your backyard will dictate the dimensions of your patio, but don’t worry—AI Sheds can work with any size area, from small courtyards to expansive backyards.
A professional designer from AI Sheds can help you maximize your available space by optimizing the layout for flow and function. You want the patio to complement your home, not overwhelm it. It should blend seamlessly with your existing outdoor areas, allowing for easy movement between the patio, garden, and other outdoor living spaces.
3. Materials and Roof Styles
The materials you choose for your patio Rockhampton play a huge role in both its appearance and durability. AI Sheds offers a wide range of materials to choose from, including:
Colorbond Steel: Known for its durability and range of colours, Colorbond steel is an excellent choice for both roofing and wall panels. It’s also low-maintenance, making it ideal for Rockhampton's weather.
Timber: For a more natural look, timber can add warmth and charm to your patio. It’s perfect for those looking for a rustic, earthy feel.
Insulated Roofing: If you want to keep your patio cool in the summer and warm in the winter, an insulated roof system is an excellent choice. It helps regulate temperature and reduces noise.
Additionally, the style of the roof is an important design element. A gabled roof provides a classic look, while a skillion roof can add a modern touch. AI Sheds will work with you to select the best materials and roof style for your patio, based on both your design preferences and functional needs.
4. Budget
Establishing a clear budget is essential when designing your patio Rockhampton. Be realistic about how much you’re willing to spend, keeping in mind both materials and installation costs. The team at AI Sheds offers a range of options to suit different budgets, so you can choose a design that fits your financial plan without compromising on quality.
5. Landscaping and Features
Consider how your patio will interact with your landscaping. If you have a garden or lawn, you may want to incorporate plantings or greenery around the edges of the patio to create a seamless flow between indoor and outdoor spaces. Additionally, consider features like lighting, ceiling fans, or outdoor heaters to make your patio usable year-round.
A patio Rockhampton from AI Sheds is the perfect way to create an outdoor space that adds value to your home, enhances your lifestyle, and withstands the local climate. Whether you're looking to entertain, relax, or simply enjoy the beauty of your surroundings, AI Sheds can design and build the perfect patio to meet your needs. Affordable Possum Removal Services Near Mornington
If you are experiencing issues with possums invading your property, you are not alone. Many homeowners in the Mornington area face the same challenges. Possums, although protected by Australian wildlife laws, can become a significant nuisance. They often make their homes in roofs, sheds, or gardens, causing damage and creating noise that can disturb the peace of your home. Finding affordable possum removal services near Mornington is crucial to ensure the protection of your property while adhering to local regulations.
Why Possum Removal is Necessary
Possums may seem harmless, but their presence can lead to various issues. These nocturnal creatures often:
Damage property: Possums can tear into roofing materials, insulation, and wiring, leading to costly repairs.
Noise disturbances: They are active at night, and the sounds of them scurrying across your roof or inside walls can disrupt sleep.
Health hazards: While possums are generally clean animals, their droppings can attract other pests like rats and insects.
Garden destruction: They can feed on fruits, vegetables, and plants, causing significant damage to your garden.
It is vital to address the presence of possums promptly to prevent further damage and avoid health risks.
What Makes Affordable Possum Removal Near Mornington Important
With Mornington's unique environment, possums are a common sight, and finding a service that combines expertise, humane methods, and affordability is essential. Choosing a professional possum removal service ensures that the possums are removed safely and legally, without harming them, as they are protected under the Wildlife Act 1975 in Victoria.
When considering affordable possum removal services, the following key factors should be taken into account:
Compliance with local laws: It is illegal to harm possums in Australia. They must be trapped and released within 50 meters of where they were found.
Expert handling: Possum removal requires skill and experience to ensure the animals are captured humanely and do not return.
Prevention measures: Professionals not only remove the possums but also secure entry points to prevent future infestations.
Affordable pricing: Look for a service that provides transparent pricing without hidden fees, ensuring you get value for your money.
How to Identify Possum Infestation in Your Home
Before you contact a possum removal service, it's essential to confirm that you indeed have a possum infestation. The following signs may indicate possums are living in or around your property:
Scratching noises in the ceiling or walls: Possums are excellent climbers and can enter homes through roof spaces.
Droppings in your yard or attic: Possum feces are usually small, dark, and cylindrical.
Damaged roofing or soffits: If you notice gaps, torn shingles, or other entry points in your roof, possums may have moved in.
Unpleasant smells: Possums can leave behind a musky odor that lingers in enclosed areas like attics or crawl spaces.
If you notice any of these signs, it's time to contact a possum removal expert near Mornington.
What to Expect from Professional Possum Removal Services Near Mornington
When you hire a professional possum removal service, they will follow a step-by-step process to ensure effective and humane removal. Here's what you can expect:
1. Initial Inspection and Assessment
A professional service will begin with a thorough inspection of your property to locate where the possums are nesting and how they are entering your home. They will check your roof, attic, and garden areas for signs of possums. This step is essential to determine the severity of the infestation and the best approach for removal.
2. Possum Trapping
Once the entry points and nesting areas are identified, the professional will set up humane traps. These traps are designed to catch the possums without injuring them. Trapping possums requires experience to ensure the safety of both the animal and your property. Remember, possums must be released near the location they were captured, ensuring they are not displaced from their habitat.
3. Sealing Entry Points
After the possums have been safely removed, the professional will seal any potential entry points to prevent them from re-entering your home. This may involve repairing broken roof tiles, soffits, or other gaps in your home’s exterior.
4. Post-Removal Prevention and Maintenance
To keep possums from returning, removal services often provide advice and preventive measures such as:
Trimming overhanging tree branches: Possums can access your roof by climbing trees near your home.
Securing rubbish bins: Possums are attracted to food sources, so keeping bins closed and stored securely can help deter them.
Installing possum-proof barriers: If your garden is frequently targeted, barriers can be installed around plants to protect them.
Affordable Possum Removal Services: What Should You Look For?
Finding an affordable possum removal service near Mornington doesn't mean you should compromise on quality. Here are some tips to help you choose the right service:
1. Licensing and Certification
Ensure that the service provider is licensed and certified to handle wildlife removal. This guarantees that they comply with local regulations and use humane methods in their operations.
2. Experience in Possum Removal
Look for a company with a proven track record in possum removal. Experienced professionals will be familiar with the behavior of possums in the Mornington area and can efficiently remove them while preventing future problems.
3. Clear Pricing Structure
Affordability is crucial, but transparency in pricing is just as important. Ensure the company provides a clear estimate for their services, including the cost of inspection, removal, and repairs. Avoid companies that offer vague or unusually low quotes, as this could lead to hidden fees later on.
4. Customer Reviews and Testimonials
Check online reviews and testimonials from previous clients. A reputable company will have positive feedback from satisfied customers who have had successful possum removal experiences.

A Dreamy White Vintage-filled Cottage in California
I am often asked how I find homes for this blog. The answer is hours and hours of scrolling instagram, Pinterest, and interior magazines. But sometimes, I home just lands in my lap - and I was very excited when this beautiful cottage appeared in my inbox this weekend! The cottage is located in central Vacaville, California - a short drive to the Napa Valley and with the Sierra Mountains less than 2 hours away. It belongs to Colette Miller and her husband who have been busy renovating it to restore it to its former glory and add her own 'California Casual' vibe to the space. If you love light and airy homes, white wood panelling and plenty of lovely vintage finds, today's tour is for you! Oh, and it also features a romantic rustic sunroom and even a shed! Read on to hear more about this dreamy property in Colette's own words - and a load of beautiful pictures captured by Lynda Kennedy.
"We downsized to this little cottage on a tree lined street 10 years ago. It is 1200 sq. ft (111 sq.m) with a detached garage and shed."
"The kitchen is on the to-do list, but I'm OK waiting. I call it the 'unfitted look'- I think when I do remodel it there won't be any drastic changes... maybe a Smeg fridge though!"
"The previous owners had remodelled and took out the vintage wood paned windows and the wood floors were covered with wall-to-wall carpeting. All of the windows and had been replaced as well, so we found vintage windows and doors that we thought the home was probably outfitted with when it was built in the early 1940s."
"We raised the ceiling in the living room and added two skylights to really let all the light in and it immediately felt so much more spacious."
"We replaced the pot belly stove for a 60's Malm stove for the vibe we were going for."
"If someone were to ask my "vibe" I wouldn't really know how to answer. I don't really fit in one box, but if I had to put a name, I'd like to think it's 'California Casual".
The back porch was open when we moved in. I knew the moment I saw it that it needed to be a sunroom. I had 6 old windows that we used to partially enclose and its my favourite space just off our master bedroom for morning coffee!
"I love our little shed in the backyard too. It's been a gardening shed, an art shed, a sit-in shed when rain is pitter-pattering on the tin roof. And now that I have grandkids, I have made it into a playhouse for them to play in."
What a dream! It feels like this property has fallen into exactly the right hands! I love that old windows and doors have been refitted - and also that a sunroom has been made from vintage finds, I'd be so happy sitting there, sipping coffee while the rain patters on the windows, how about you? You can see more pictures of Colette's pretty cottage and follow her latest home updates over at @colettemiller. Is there anything that stood out to you about Colette's home? If so, please do share in the comments below, I love to hear your thoughts, observations and reflections! The interior reminded me a little of Leanne Ford's woodsy cabin and also some of the properties by Australian Lynda Gardner (especially her Daylesford property) - two interior designers I admire. And I think the sun room holds similarities to romantic Camellas Lloret - somewhere I've always wanted to stay! I am busy packing as I am heading off to Norway tomorrow for a week. I'll be heading to Bodø and then the Lofoten islands for a travel piece for Simply Scandi magazine, and I am SO excited! If you'd like a virtual trip, do follow along on my instagram!Have a wonderful start to the week! PS Don't forget to make the most of the 20% discount at Skandinavisk with code myscandinavianhome20 - I love their FJORD fragrance, they've managed to captured the scent of the Norwegian fjords beautifully! Tropical Paradise: This style features lush greenery, palm trees, and exotic plants to create a resort-like atmosphere. Adding elements like bamboo fencing, thatched umbrellas, and stone pathways can enhance the tropical vibe. Tropical landscaping provides a relaxing, vacation-like experience right in your backyard.
Modern Minimalist: Clean lines, simple shapes, and a limited color palette define this style. Use materials like concrete, glass, and steel to achieve a contemporary look. Minimalist pool landscaping Sydney focuses on creating a sleek, sophisticated space with low-maintenance plants and streamlined features.
Mediterranean Retreat: Inspired by the coastal regions of Spain and Italy, this style incorporates terracotta tiles, stone walls, and drought-resistant plants like lavender, rosemary, and olive trees. Water features such as fountains or cascading waterfalls can enhance the Mediterranean feel.
Native Australian: Using native plants like kangaroo paw, bottlebrush, and grasses not only enhances the natural beauty of your pool area but also supports local wildlife and reduces water usage. This style is sustainable and blends seamlessly with the natural Sydney landscape.
Tips for Successful Pool Landscaping Sydney
To ensure your pool landscaping project is a success, consider the following tips:
Choose the Right Plants: Opt for plants that are pool-friendly, meaning they don’t shed excessively, are resistant to chlorine, and can thrive in Sydney’s climate. Avoid plants with invasive root systems that could damage pool structures.
Incorporate Functional Features: Include elements like outdoor seating, sun loungers, and shade structures to make your pool area more comfortable and usable. Fire pits and outdoor kitchens can turn your pool area into an entertainment hub.
Lighting Matters: Proper lighting enhances the ambiance and safety of your pool area. Use a combination of underwater lights, pathway lights, and accent lighting to highlight features and create a warm, inviting atmosphere.
Maintain Balance: Strive for a balance between hardscape (patios, pathways, decking) and softscape (plants, grass, flowers) elements to create a cohesive look. Overcrowding the pool area with too many plants or structures can make it feel cluttered and cramped.
Pool landscaping Sydney is an essential aspect of creating a beautiful and functional backyard oasis. By choosing the right design style, plants, and features, you can transform your pool area into a space that reflects your personal taste and enhances your outdoor living experience. Whether you’re looking for a tranquil retreat, a family-friendly environment, or an elegant entertainment space, pool landscaping Sydney offers endless possibilities to make your backyard dreams a reality.
