I finally watched breaking bad (all within the past week or so while I worked, finished it and watched el camino last night) and I'm confident this isn't a new thought I'm expressing or anything but genuinely how DID an entire generation of dudes convince themselves Walter White was cool and admirable and intended to be sympathetic. I know ppl just lack media literacy sometimes but I'm still so confused
I don't think I've EVER watched a piece of media that so blatantly depicts a guy making the worst possible decisions at every turn and having his life ruined for it and not being redeemed or made sympathetic in any significant or lasting way. the kinds of justifications villains USUALLY give that make people consider them "morally grey" or "tragic" or whatever (everything I did was for my loved ones, I did what I had to to survive, once I was in this I couldn't get out, I just needed you to trust me so I could keep you safe, etc etc) is ALWAYS framed as complete self-serving bullshit when Walt says it, and one of the only shreds of personal growth he ever exhibits in the whole series is when he finally fucking admits that. every time he does something even remotely cool or drops a quotable one-liner, something terrible immediately happens that makes everything worse and makes him look like an unreasonable idiot asshole again. by the end of the series the ONLY characters they can still contrast as being morally "worse" than him are literally a bunch of bloodthirsty neonazis who kept a guy in a cage for several months. this show is practically SCREAMING at you the entire time not to admire Walt. why did every dude I knew in highschool have his face on tshirts and Facebook pfps.
I just don't get it. at least with The Dark Knight's Joker it was like, a feature-length movie and that's it. you spend a lot less time with the Joker and it has a lot less time to delve into his motivations, so there's way more room for flanderization and misinterpretation as people extrapolate the few cool/interesting/sad things they saw into a whole nuanced misunderstood guy in their heads and online. Walter White has 5 seasons' worth of 45min episodes to convince you beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is a miserable fucking loser who ruins everything he touches because of greed and selfishness. if you weren't watching it for that, what WERE you getting out of this. what DID you think this show was about. am I just missing some key piece of context from 2012 or whatever that would help me understand this
#buny text#breaking bad#also I'm vaguely aware there was a big movement of fans who blamed everything on his wife and said she was the worst#which like. obvious misogyny from the primary audience of teen boys and young men aside#she's not really worse than any of the other adult characters?? she sucks real bad in the first couple seasons but so does everyone else#half the point of having all these characters be so shitty and rigid and unwilling to grow or accommodate others is so that#they can serve as landmarks to show how rapidly walt is abandoning his morals and spiraling into self-justification as the series goes on#the people you hate in season 1 are largely people you sympathize with in season 4 and 5 because compared to walt they're saints#idk. it's just weird having grown up around the fan culture for this show for the past decade or so and then finally watching it#and just being completely baffled now that i know what they were responding to

Lilo & Stitch is, and probably will remain for the foreseeable future, the Disney animated film that is more antithetical to everything about Disney as a company than any other Disney animated film. Unfortunately it is also owned by Disney which effectively commodified every subsequent use of the characters back into conformity with every other Disney property. Which leaves the original film itself kind of an orphan - isolated from its creator by its own nature, its various sequels and merchandise and etc belonging to Disney with no bearing on the film, and innately difficult to engage with on its own terms by the nature of the larger population of the Disney fandom also aligning more with Disney as a corporation and not that specific film.
It's almost like some kind of secret experimental creation which normally would have been destroyed by all the acceptable corporate governance under Disney, but it managed to escape and find the weirdos and exiles of the world who could appreciate it or something
#not that its like 100% perfect but its got more giving a shit per minute than every other disney animation combined#shaking hands w Iron Giant like actually engages with a young audience and also recognizes the struggles of adults too#directly tells you to reject the values of the USA and embrace non-conformity#Disney is not capable of making anything sincere anymore so I think Lilo and Stitch is the last one

had a conversation last week with a 10 year old girl about the s5 finale and i can’t stop thinking about it. she said nathalie is the best because she loves adrien enough to lie to him about his father so that he stays happy. completely convinced that emilie was resurrected at the end and shocked when i suggested otherwise. i’ve been dying to know what the children think happened and it’s so interesting
#anna rambles#ml s5#ml season 5#ml#i personally don’t think that adrien’s gonna find out anything in future seasons#which to me feels unsatisfying#but it’s interesting that (from my sample size of one child) maybe the kids would see that as a good thing#it felt to me like the show was framing it as a good thing at least#so it would be interesting to find out how more of the (young) target audience perceived it#bc i feel like most of the adult fans i’ve seen online assume that adrien will find out or at least would find it unsatisfying if he didnt#when i asked if she thought it could’ve been amelie at the end her jaw dropped and she said ‘no because he’s always down there talking#about how he’s gonna bring his wife back! he says it all the time and that’s what he did!’#& i was like. girl yeah you’re right😭 that is also what i thought when i saw it😭#anyway I need to talk to more kids about ml. for science

can't believe a show based on a videogame (usually games adaptations are notoriously bad, which isn't the case here tho) gave me the beauty and the beast/twisted mirrors/enemies to traveling companions/ruthless antihero+optmistic but still badass heroine who takes none of his shit/age gap but make it sexy dynamic of my dreams. as much as i love maximus and i think he deserves the best writing ever because 1. he's a clever deconstruction of the aspiring Knight bro who's actually a bit of a loser and, as much as lucy, sees the world in black&white at first and then doesn't get what he thought he wanted but what he needs (or at least i hope he'll eventually get it), and 2. he's a cutie and i want an epic love story for him too, it's very funny how they tried to give us a puppy kind of romance and the tumblr girlies still fixated on the "toxic ~she bites his finger off and he cuts hers off and sews it on his hand in what we'll pretend it's a symbolic marriage rings exchange or whatever~ asshole who used to be a nice guy/good girl™ with a lot of spunk and hidden anger but unshakeable morals" kind of relationship.
#mind you idt the writers will ever have the guts to go for this pair or anything and i'm perfectly okay with the maximus/lucy romance#but still. they tried to give us the wholesome love story between two cuties with a killer side#and the fandom went ~mmmh we kinda want for that girl and the noseless radioactive ghoul to fuck nasty actually#shhdhdhf i'm sorry but this was so predictable to me. conosco i miei polli#also. i don't fully understand those who see it as a father/daughter thing? just because it worked on tlos#doesn't mean we need the same kind of dynamic here#1. despite him being an actual father (or at least. he was 200+ years ago) i've never seen a less paternal character than the ghoul lmao#2. lucy is an adult woman. young but in her mid twenties i guess? cooper had (and maybe still has) a daughter but the kid was like. 6 or 7?#lucy doesn't need a daddy she's a grown up. stop infantilizing women all the freaking time#let them be fully equals!! let them be bickering road trip companions/a killer squad/tentative allies who eventually form a real bond#i SWEAR if the writers go full parent/child bs with them in s2 because they're more popular#(at least on ao3. i don't expect the same level of insanity from the general audience)#than the canon ship i'll riot. idt they will but still#..... maybe they should go for a hot max/lucy/coop polycule instead. that would be interesting lmao#vaultghoul#fallout#val rambles in the tags#val speaks#txt

If I had a nickel for every show I’ve seen that follows a strong spirited blue-eyed heroine who lost her mother at a young age to a fire that can be linked back to colonial violence and who seeks revenge for that but who is also strongly associated with water and the colour blue, who travels with her close companion who happens to be a bald and childlike yet oddly wise individual with traits both physical and emotional that line up with association of air and the colour grey, who eventually fight and then travel with a stubborn fighter who has never lost a battle before encountering them and is associated with earth and the colour green, as well as a fourth character that represents fire and the colour red and who is a royal/noble trying desperately to ensure control over her own destiny for the sake of freedom and power and who very much acts as a narrative foil to the water/blue character, and one of the former two characters is obsessed with honor to the point that they are willing to actively aid their enemy just so that they can personally be the one to bring them down and are also sporting one half of a whole haircut for reasons also associated with honour and humiliation, and all this takes place in either east asia or an east asian inspired setting with both plenty of nuance and entertainment value to be found, then I’d have two nickels… which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice, right?
#do be aware that Blue Eye Samurai is ADULT/18+/mature unlike Avatar: the Last Aibender which is meant for young audiences/children#blue eye samurai#avatar: the last airbender#if i had a nickel#mizu blue eye samurai#ringo blue eye samurai#taigen blue eye samurai#akemi blue eye samurai#mizu bes#ringo bes#taigen bes#akemi bes#katara#aang#avatar aang#zuko#prince zuko#azula#princess azula#both S tier shows btw#mizu x akemi#mizu x taigen#zutara#netflix#atla#atla meta#bes meta#blue eye samurai meta

people concerned with the lack of parents and teachers in the wind breaker universe, I see you and I understand. but I’ll be honest, I didn’t even question it while I was reading, because it sort of… doesn’t matter? in the context of the story. the people who’ve addressed their parents have done so purely for plot reasons, so if their home life isn’t relevant to the plot, we don’t need to see it. which, yeah, makes you worry about these 16-18 year old kids running around beating the shit out of each other (and grown men) but also I appreciate that extraneous information just isn’t included in the manga. we’re here for character development, the power of friendship, learning to love oneself, and kick-ass fight scenes, and anything else is just a bonus.
#king’s court#wind breaker#wind breaker nii satoru#I think it’s funny tbh#the lack of adults#from a meta standpoint it’s maybe not great that all the kids here solve their problems themselves without reaching out to reliable adults#except in that one scene in umemiya’s backstory#because the target audience is still young boys#but like it’s fine don’t worry about it#they come home from training beaten black and blue and the parents don’t bat an eye#it leaves a lot of room for writers to play around in which I also think is fun#especially in sakura’s case#but anyway yeah that’s my two cents

if you were going to rate transformer synergize like a TV show or video game rating what would it be rated?
Well, with a comic rating, it probably be a T+ or 15+. I guess if you want a game or TV rating, it would be a T or TV14,
There is definitely some violence mostly towards robots, but humans/non-robot characters can get hurt as well. There's also some techno-organic Body Horror, and the insecticons are techno-organic so when they get hurt it's a little more than wires and broken metal, but Transformers comics are usually pretty violent in general, so idk if synergized would be about average, or maybe even less violent than your average tf comic, but it definitely would be less graphic mostly due to the art style.
Their occasional profanity, it’s mostly leaser swears like damn, crap, hell, or Transformers substitutes like scrap and frag. But if I feel the scene calls it, or it makes sense for a character to say you may find a rare fuck or shit.
There may sometimes be suggestive jokes, dialog, or implications, but nothing sexually explicit happens on page or is talked about in detail.
#idk if i really had a target audience in mind since this is just kinda my crazy weird passion project#if i had to say what my taget audience is it prob be young adults like 18 to 26yo#thats were im at in my life and its also the age rage of the main main humans characters and mentally were a lot of the bots are sorta at#transformers fan continuity#transformers#tfs#transformers synergize#ask answering#text post

i have a question for the dangerverse fandom. how do we feel about fanart? more specifically how would we feel about ray fanart as the 'cover them up slut' meme...is it, like- is that okay? appropriate? or is it too much? this is a genuine question people, please don't come for my throat.
#henry danger#henry danger movie#ray manchester#captain man#dangerverse#i mean. most of the fanbase who grew up with the show are young adults/adults now#but it's still a kids show. so. even if the movie is for older audiences i'm not sure uhg#and i'm asking about RAY we all know the man is fine#PEOPLE PLEASE interact !!! tell me ur opinions i need to know#yipyip

might make an adult sideblog. not like explicitly "adult content" but like. one where I can make weiner jokes and be sure there aren't any minors nearby
#smokey talks#i love this blog i love my main blog but i do have 2 acknowledge that im an adult who#occasionally has adult thoughts and adult things to say and this blog is more oriented to a general audience#and given the media im into it tends to skew young#so i dont always feel comfortable sharing those thoughts here

idk its weird how a lot of the companies making sonic merch just go "oh we'll do classic sonic stuff for the adults and modern sonic stuff for the kids" when some of the modern sonic games are old enough now for there to be adults who grew up with them or weren't even born yet when they came out. and there's also probably plenty of adults out there who like modern sonic games despite not playing them as a kid for whatever reason. there's not a strict never broken pattern for the age group someone falls into and the sonic media that they like. now please make more modern sonic shirts that fit me thank you
#and im sure theres also kids out there who really like classic sonic it goes both ways#but thats not really as big of an issue because they DO make plenty of classic sonic stuff for kids#its literally only the adult sized stuff that goes ''ok hered a picture of classic sonic just standing there. you get no other options''#they also tend to make movie sonic stuff for kids but not adults#however the first sonic movie only came out like 3 years ago there arent any adults who watched them as little kids yet#so while its still a bit disappointing as an adult who likes the movies#the divide here doesnt feel quite as pointless and unreasonable as the classic/modern one does#and like i KNOW that kids are the target audience so theyre always gonna take priority. thats fine#but by making sonic merch for adults theyre making it clear that they know adult sonic fans exist and theyre willing to make stuff for them#and i wish they would keep literally any of us who are too young to have been a kid in the early 90s in mind. you know

I'm sorry but Mike being "rude" or "mean" or "a little bit of jerk" is NOT a valid reason to hate him when characters like Troy or Billy or Angela (or Brenner but he's a whole different breed) exist in the same show ☠️
#did he say some jerk-y things? absolutely#but he also immediately regretted it and tried to make it up to the ppl he hurt bc he actually CARES abt others#(and don't even bring up Max cuz they have a whole different dynamic and it is NOT the same)#and he's also an extremely traumatized teenage boy who shows very common untreated trauma/PTSD symptoms!!#“he may get irritable [or] he may lash out” - literally Owen in s2 abt PTSD symptoms#plus... don't sit there and tell me that you have never snapped or even said something dumb or hurtful to ppl you care abt#EVERYONE is a jerk at least once in their lives whether you want to admit that or not#sorry just needed to vent i saw someone come after s3-4 mike and it got my blood boiling!!!#mike wheeler#mike wheeler defender#mike wheeler defense squad#stranger things#byler#<— target audience#jay's talking ST <3#jay's saying stuff :)#i stand by the fact that if any characters deserve to be mean every once and a while it's literally any of the children in this show#cuz the stuff they have gone through is hard for even adults to deal with let alone young kids/teens

He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth

i had a final to get done this weekend too but i think that venom 2016 pet names compilation was a valuable use of my time as well
#I'M SO FUCKED. IT'S GONNA BE FINE THOUGH...#have to make an adaptation of some sort of one of the books we read#and then write a 750 word explanation of why i made the adaptation choices that i did#easy in concept. um. i don't feel qualified to adapt the hate u give. don't rlly wanna touch love simon with a ten foot pole#which means i'm doing wrinkle in time and i just don't have that much to say about a wrinkle in time...#we have to choose a specific audience that is not child or young adult too. who else is there to write for#gonna deadass say i'm writing for queer people and move on. dr. breuer will be fine with that#i'm doing this option cause writing a poem was explicitly one of the suggested options! it's gonna be fine!!!#i just. have to actually do the work. which is. well. hm. um. well.#i have venom 2016 pet names compilation to get me through it now. everything's gonna be fine#academia#valentine notes

my brother just told me my book would probably be popular on tiktok and. ngl i almost strangled him lmao
#yes i'm a pretentious asshole AND a picky reader#and yes of course i'd be incredibly happy if my book became popular or just got published at all. tiktok or not#but. ahehhddh idk should i take it as an insult?#what my brother meant was that it has the potential to sell well (especially among a younger female audience)#but i have a bad relationship with booktok in general. everytime i tried to read a hyped on tiktok novel#it went from kinda mid to downright bad#tbc my book is not ya. i didn't even write it as ya at all. at least not consciously (the protagonists *are* young adults)#and it's a historical romance but... it goes into very sensitive problematic territory#and i'm not comfortable with the idea of publishing it. like at all#if any of my followers is curious about my writing tho don't worry because i'm also writing a batb retelling#and i have another idea for a gothic ghost story going through my head#first i have to actually finish them (... or *start* writing them in the first place lol)#val speaks#writing life#txt

the thing about the michael bay skibidi movie is it's gonna be such a huge fucking flop gkfjfkd
#like. teens won't want to see it because they know hollywood+memes=''how do you do fellow kids'' disaster#adults won't know what the fuck it's about and be weirded out by the concept#the most likely audience is going to be very young kids lacking the knowledge to foresee that hollywood will ruin their funny gmod youtubes#AND that demographic is going to severely overlap with the aforementioned weirded out adults one#who are most likely going to tell their kids ''i'm not taking you to see a toilet movie''#also they're going to have to change the appearance of the characters because y'know. valve owns g-man & all#and i'm betting they won't give away the rights to using their character's likeness on a head coming out of a toilet#it being a youtube series is one thing. that's fair use. but being a commercial product And franchise? different story#also IT'S A SILENT THING. THERE IS NO DIALOGUE. HOW IS THAT GONNA BE A MOVIE -AND- A SERIES????#no dialogue movies are a thing but ooooh i know michael bay is Not gonna make one#there's gonna be explosions and witty one-liners and cliché ''we have to stop these damn toilets...'' dialogue#also the song ? are they gonna get the rights to the damn fucking song ?#how is it gonna be skibidi toilet without the music that says skibidi#in any case. hey#michael. dipshit. there's already a skibidi toilet series. it's called skibidi toilet. it's free on youtube.
