I know we all like to joke about everyone knowing about Anakin’s relationship with Padmé but I think its so much more interesting if they don't.
Or at least, not to the true extent.
They know he has a crush. They know the two are closer than they should be. But every Jedi had that phase! Obi-Wan Kenobi and Satine, Aalya and Bly. Even Qui-Gon did as well.
They assume it’s the same for Anakin. He's what, 19-22 during his obsession with her? He's young, he’ll outgrow it in time, learn to quiet those impulses.
But it’s not. He doesn't. He's not just having a too-close friend or a fling, he’s MARRIED. And he is loyal to Padmé as much as he’s loyal to the Jedi Order. And that’s what ends them all.

Obi-Wan: What did you do?
Anakin: …
Obi-Wan: WHAT DID YOU DO?!
Anakin, shamefully puts his head down: Married Padmé on accident…
Padmé: ACCIDENT?! YOU BEGGED ME FIRST.

Does anyone think a lot about Charles Darnay’s inevitable post-novel PTSD/survivor guilt or is that just me?

Okay, I’m aware there’s probably no way Charles Dickens could have known what autism was, but if you read “A Tale of Two Cities” with the interpretation of Sydney Carton being autistic or otherwise neurodivergent, so much about him makes sense.
I always just saw Sydney Carton as a gay alcoholic depressive but that adds so much nuance omg now I gotta reread atotc ✨

hi there, I've been looking everywhere too for the Tale of Two Cities musical with James Barbour. Have you happened to find a copy yet? Id do anything to watch it! Thank you
Ashley P.
Hi Ashley! I've yet to find a full copy of the James Barbour show. It's SO SAD!! I'm sorry I can't help you out. I too would love to get my hands on a copy of this incredible show ❤️ I do have a copy of the PBS Concert edition, which is pretty good even though it's abridged. DM me if you're interested in that 😁

Re: Cartnay, let’s not even get into how Carton and Darnay are both country boys who come to the big city to seek new lives and fortunes, or how Darnay has literally changed his name to his mother’s maiden name and is trying to get away from his shitty conservative family and stifling small town environs.
You're so true and correct. Charles Dickens really did just accidentally make both of his self-inserts gay.
Although I will say....Sydney Carton is obviously extremely gay, always "lounging" around while making snarky comments about how handsome Darnay is, and how "dissipated" he is, and how he's loyal to Stryver for mysterious Personal Reasons, and how he doesn't find women attractive, and etc.
But Darnay has "confused person who can hardly wrap his mind around the concept of gay people existing" energy. He's an absolute vanilla wafer of a man. He could be gay, it would just be very surprising to everyone including him.

Where did the idea that Sydney is bi come from and why is it so popular?
I've actually been saving this ask for a long time because I (still do!) intend to fully answer this question in a thorough, very-long-form essay once I finish a reread of A Tale of Two Cities (and also read some companion analysis books I now own for it!)...
...but being as it's gonna be a long time until that happens - and also being as it is now pride month(!!!) - I figured that what I would do in the meantime is...open the question up to everyone else!
* for those who aren't familiar with the terminology, here's a good article on the word "headcanon" ** I broadened it to "queer" because although bi is the most common queer headcanon for him, it's also possible to headcanon him as queer without headcanoning him as bi, and I wanted to open the question up to all of the possibilities🌈
I'm going refrain from writing out my own answer (for now, at least!) and instead am leaving it completely open - please elaborate if you feel compelled to do so!
though I do have one humble request: I know it's a common way to talk about queer headcanons, but no sex jokes / nsfw, please!
I know the original questions in the ask concern a more fandom-wide cultural phenomenon and that my poll is more based in individual viewpoints, but I think enough of a variety of answers to the latter could help build towards answers to the former - at least as a starting place before I do my big analysis some day😌
🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️In the meantime, happy Pride!🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈
