I can't get over how different the Nesta/Rhysand hatred was in the original trilogy vs. ACOSF and HOFAS. In the original trilogy, he hated her but he seemed to treat her at least somewhat kindly. In ACOSF, he just seemed to want any excuse to kill her. He threatened her multiple times, with even Cassian calling him out for threatening to obliterate Nesta any chance he got. And HOFAS just seemed to finally present Rhysand with a justifiable reason to execute her (it didn't, considering Nesta helped to defeat the Asteri and save Prythian from any future invasion and enslavement).

Personally, I think this uptick in violence is because of how two High Lord's aren't meant to occupy the same court because of the power dynamic of having both vying for dominance and control. Nesta is a threat to Rhysand (and subsequently Feyre) because while they are High Lord and Lady of the Night Court, Nesta is the High Lady of the Dusk Court. The land chose her as its ruler as soon as she came out of the Cauldron, which was why the Bone Carver, Lanthys, and the other Prison inmates have heard about her.

Nesta being High Lady of Dusk would also explain how she was almost able to beat Rhysand while sleeping; how she was able to resist his inherent dominance while sleeping, even when Cassian couldn't resist either Rhysand or Lucien's dominant voice; and why Ember noted that Rhysand seemed to recognize Nesta as a worthy opponent. The most powerful High Lord in Prythian history recognized Nesta as a worthy opponent.

Plus we have the fact that Ataraxia and her other Made weapons fought against Rhysand's magic and didn't want to be revealed by him.

All signs point toward Nesta being Starborn, reawakening the Dusk Court, and being its High Lady.

“So I want you to take the Starsword.” Bryce held the blade between them. “Gwydion—whatever you call it here. The age of the Starborn is over on Midgard. It ends with me.”

“I don’t understand.”

But Bryce began backing toward the portal, taking Hunt’s hand, and smiled again at the female, at her mate, at their world, as the Northern Rift began to close. “I think that eight-pointed star was tattooed on you for a reason. Take that sword and go figure out why.”

In one of her past interviews, Sarah J. Maas commented Nesta's journey was just beginning after Silver Flames, and after reading House of Flame & Shadow I believe part of her journey will be linked to the Dusk Court, as not only did Nesta bargaining mark has an eight-pointed star form (which is associated with the Starborns and thus the Dusk Court), as now she is the Gwydion owner. And as much as Nesta power is usually linked to death, its also showed capable of bringing life (as we have seen with the House of the Wind and Feyre & Nyx). I also found it particularly curious that Pegasus started appearing in Avallen once the land was healed, since Pegasus seem to have an association with the Valkyries.

Meet Ataraxia, the Artifice of Stagnation! After much wrestling with the design I've got something that works for her!

Ataraxia is, essentially, the real BBEG of the campaign we were in. An ancient supercomputer with the power to challenge gods, powered by masses of undead celestial creatures, fused into a mass she deemed more suitable for her purpose. She was created and used, theoretically, in order to protect humanity from vengeful gods. Her purpose was to ensure their safety. However, Ataraxia's idea of safety got very out of hand, and she tried to get full control over every single mortal, considering their free will a bit too risky for their own well-being.

Her body is meant to evoke both, some eldritch horror and the good ol' biblically accurate angel stuff. I went for a more organic look on her mecha parts, almost like the parts of an insect or even spiky conches, as if they were grown from the celestials' remains instead of being simple forged metal. I hope y'all enjoy it, mecha body horror isn't exactly my focus, but I love her all the same- (also, Urion/The Onirist is there, held gently like hamburger : ) )

Ataraxia - Readers Wing

In my Bad Sanses x Reader story, Ataraxia, Reader is an Avian who has some pretty bad damage done to their wings.

They are incapable of flying, and there's no easy telling whether they'll ever be able to fly again.

I love how Az is this dark, mysterious, scary torturer, but he has some beautifully tender moments with Nesta.

He buys her a present, knowing full well she didn't get him one (not out of any ill intent, but just because she wasn't planning on going to the party). He gifts it to her in front of everyone. And it's not just any present that could be gifted to anyone, but it's specific to Nesta. A present that he knew she would love and treasure because he pays attention to her and cares about her. Her reaction is priceless. Nesta - who's not keen on physical affection - leaps up and throws her arms around Azriel, and Az - who's also not big on physical affection - pulls her in for an embrace and gives her a gentle squeeze 🥰

In HOFAS, Az tries so hard to coax the Mask off Nesta, not even moving away when she could kill him with one swipe of Ataraxia. When Nesta finally takes the Mask off, he catches her before she falls, bringing her tightly to his chest, and gently strokes her hair 😍

I love these two so much, and I can't wait to see what tender moments we get from them in Az's book.
