ZAP Astro Megazord
Yo, they told me it was big, but I didn’t know it was this big O_O And I know I’ve seen a few people complain about that, but my retort to that is, “Delta Megazord.” And now you’re imagining how insane the Astro Delta Megazord is going to be when/if they eventually make it. At this point, ZAP, for me, is how I’d like to collect the older Megazords I can’t afford the DXs of. And I had the DX Astro Megazord as a kid, so how does this compare apart from size?
The Good: As ZAP is supposed to do, they added quite a bit of posability. Neck, inward butterfly, outer shoulder, elbow, wrists, ab crunch, waist, hips, knees, and even ankles if you pull them out. If you’re familiar with the posability from the transformation joints DX toy had, those joints have been expanded upon.
The transformation is basically the same as the DX, but is much easier and more solid than ZAP Dino Megazord. The accessories are all fun, all the non-electronic gimmicks are still there, and it has the cockpit gimmick again.
Tumblr media
The Bad: I don’t count size as an issue, but it doesn’t fit in my display shelf, which is a bit of a bummer. The hip joints are 1) very tight, and 2) somewhat hard to orientate when going between modes. Lastly, the shoulders have disappointing amount of range to them. They can only extend about 45°, and hinge at the bottom of the shoulder so it doesn’t always look nice. You can still get a decent amount of range, and the Astro Delta will hopefully fix it, but it’s a bit of a disappointment.
Overall, I really like this one, probably more than the Dino Megazord. It’s (apparently) detrimentally big, lacks arm posability, and is a little annoying to transform at one specific point, but it overall feels a lot more solid than its predecessors, and feels a lot more playable, whereas the Dino felt like a subpar display piece. If you like the Astro Megazord, but don’t have the DX, this is a fine replacement.

It’s time.
I’m gonna rate some fuckin megazords.
Starting with In Space cause I’m biased
(Possible flashing lights warning? Just to be safe)
Up first, this lil dude
Tumblr media
7/10. It’s nothing fancy be he has so much charm! His little hat is perfection and honestly the simple sword design slaps.
Delta Megazord
Tumblr media
7/10. Bruh came flying down to Earth with two gatling guns for hands and honestly it was a vibe. Gotta love a black/yellow color scheme but I gotta be honest I dont understand the pin head helmet. (Honestly it’s a 5/10 without the gun hands cause they’re so cool imo)
Lastly, this baddie
Tumblr media
9/10. ITS CLASSY. ITS COLORFUL. IT SHOOTS A WHOLE ASS ROCKET AS A WEAPON. She is true beauty and one of my fav megazord designs like ever. 😌 love me some megavoyager 🥹💜

My favorite part of that BBC tweet identifying a Gundam as a Transformer has been seeing the Japanese posting in response:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
ID: Three screenshots of three different tweets with pictures.
1. A tweet by @Daitotetsugen (in all caps), originally in Japanese that says:
“こネタは散々見てきたけど、英語版を見た時は爆笑 した” and machine translated to English that says:
“I’ve seen this story a lot, but when I saw the English version I burst into laughter.”
The picture is titled “Giant robot identification chart” and it’s made up of four rows with four pictures each of mechas and robots of different media, almost all labeled incorrectly.
Robots labelled incorrectly as “Transformers”:  Gundam Rx 78-2,  Zeku 2, Mazinger Z, Getter 1, Eva Unit 01,  Yf-19, Valsione R, Astro Delta Megazord, Daileon, Big O
Robots labelled incorrectly as “Evangelion”:  RahXephon, Yuubrain, Tactical Surface Fighter, Nirvash Type Zero
Robots labelled incorrectly as “Megazord”: Optimus Prime
Labelled correctly: ATM-09-STTC Scopedog Turbo Custom The Last Red Shoulder Ver.
2. A tweet by @Seskou (in all caps), originally in Japanese that says:
“メガゾード!” and machine translated to English that says:
“Megazord!”
The picture attached to it is a drawing in color of the Gundam Rx 78-2 transformed as a trailer truck and engaging in a three step transformation sequence into his usual form.
There are two things written in Japanese in the picture:
戦え!超ロボット生命体 - Fight! Super robot lifeform (roughly translated)
エヴァンゲリオン  - The title of Neon Genesis Evangelion
3.  A tweet by @naototsushima, originally in Japanese that says:
“まあまあ間違えはよくある事さ仲良くやろうや ” and machine translated to English that says:
“It’s a common mistake, let’s get along”
The picture attached to it is a drawing in color of Optimus Prime and the   Gundam Rx 78-2 shaking hands while looking at the viewer. They are seen from hips up and the background is green.

In response to multiple alien invasions in recent years the government forms a response team to confront the next alien threat. This team would be trained and given top end technology to perform their job.
Five people are recruited to form this team and are given morphers and training. They are the Power Rangers Astro Force.
The timing could not have been better, for the United Aeon Empire has set their sight on Earth. Lead by the monstrous Dark Specter and his first lieutenant the beautiful yet brutal Astronema they attack Earth.

For anyone who’s a big fan of the GoGoV/Lightspeed rescue mecha’s and missed out on the DX ones back in the late 90′s/early 2000′s and would like to get them, Premium Bandai’s Got you covered with new model kit re-releases of the Victory Robo/Lightspeed Megazord and Grand Liner/SuperTrain megazord as part of the Super Minipla Line. The super-minipla line, unlike Bandai’s Gundam model kits or Figurise models, are a newer redesigned upscaling of the older candy-toy figures bandai used to/sometimes still releases, intended for older audiences and maintain a higher build quality for animation/Tokusatsu mechs not part of the standard circle of figures bandai Produces; usually in smaller scale to the DX toys.  I personally have collected all their Gaogaigar ones, and they’re fantastic, and include all the gimmicks they can with as much pose-ability as they can manage.
Tumblr media
For reference, the Victory Robo is on the scale of a standard SH Figurarts or Figure-rise standard figure or 1/144 gundam model kit, while the Grand liner is approximately in scale with a 1/60 Gundam model kit, the 1/144 Psycho Gundam, the 1/100 Sazabi ver ka, or the Super-Minipla release of King J-Der. As these are Premium Bandai items and not something that’ll be entering regular retail, there’s going to be a significant markup on import costs for them due to their scarcity, but currently Retail for Victory Robo is 5500 yen (likely average Import markup will leave it at around $75 or higher) and the Grand Liner is 13500 yen (Avg Markup to $175 or higher).   For those who would want to get in on buying them, the Website Tokullectibles has them up for preorder, with a july-set release date. https://tokullectibles.com/collections/super-sentai/products/super-minipla-gogov-grand-liner-super-train-megazord https://tokullectibles.com/collections/super-sentai/products/preorder-super-minipla-gogov-victory-robo For those who would want to wait and potentially get them later, or would like to see if bluefin might be importing them like they did the MMPR Season 3 Ninja megazord and Shogun megazord, and PRIS’ Astro-delta megazord Minipla models; the figures will likely be around those same markup ranges as evidenced by the normal western retail prices for those items.  If Bluefin does not, then your likely next-best bet will be the Japanese retailer “Mandarake”.  Mandarake is a Japanese second-hand/Used item retail chain that ships internationally, and is a Godsend retailer for anyone who misses the first-run releases of any P-Bandai merchandise or get screwed over by a import/E-bay seller that never actually provides what they were selling, or does so months after their releases.  I’ve gotten a LOT of P-Bandai Gunpla from them in the last year, at relatively fair prices.
Plus, the P-Bandai design team have teased that they’re likely not done with The GoGo-V line just as of yet...

Today, Bandai Candy revealed the official information regarding the next Super Sentai Super Mini-Pla release; the release is for none other than Galaxy Mega and Delta Mega from Denji Sentai Megaranger. The two will be sold together, as a set rather than being sold separate as some collectors expected. Power Rangers fans will easily recognize these mechas as the Astro Megaship/ Megazord and the Delta Megazord from Power Rangers in Space. In addition, both sets will be able to combine to form Super Galaxy Mega/ Astro Delta Megazord. Below is the official gallery from Bandai Candy:
Pre-orders for the Super Mini-Pla Galaxy Mega & Delta Mega Set are set to open tomorrow, October 1st. The set will be sold at retail, but Premium Bandai opened their listings for the set early. Premium Bandai and retailers (like our sponsor, CS Toys International) will be selling the Super Mini-Pla Galaxy Mega & Delta Mega Set for roughly 6912 yen, with its release set for Janurary 2019. Denji Sentai Megaranger is currently available in North America on DVD via Shout! Factory; the complete series was released on home video last October.

On the older side of toku, we got complete looks and pre-orders for the Super Mini-Pla versions of Megaranger’s Galaxy Mega and Delta Mega. Yes yes, I and a bunch of others are wanting these because they’re the Power Rangers in Space Astro Megazord and Delta Megazord (no idea what Hasbro’s Power Rangers deal is gonna do to Bluefin Bandai imports), but that’s beside the point. What’s important is how COOL these things look, just being properly transformable little toy robots. I can’t believe we actually got a decently posable figure out of the Delta’s deliberately bricky design. And they even combine! Given how into completing sets Bandai is with these releases, I really hope we get...whatever the Megaranger names for the Mega Voyager and Mega Winger were (man, the PR adaptation really stuck the Sentai version’s prefix in there a bunch, didn’t it?).

Mega Voyager
I’ve hit the end of my backlog! It took me until the end of the year, but it finally happened >_> And we’re ending it with an old toy I’ve had my eye on for a long time. I owned the Astro and Delta Megazords as a kid, and had a neighbor with both this and the Mega Winger. It was one of those situations where I had what most people would consider the cooler toy (since it’s the most cohesive looking combination), but I always liked the look of the Mega Voyager more. Probably because it had the usual colors, but symmetrical. Also, it’s got a bazooka.
Also, this is preowned, and super in need of some shock oil. I’ve really got to pick some up for Rovoyager-1. Everyone is pretty good, though.
The Good: It’s a pretty fun transformation. Shuttle Voyager-2 and Tank Voyager-3 are both pretty simple, but the way Rovoyager-1 forms a core for everything, the way Rocket Voyager-3 forms the legs and the weapon and the torso, and how it combines with Saucer Voyager-4 and how it itself transforms. There’s a lot of cool conversions, like DekaRanger Robo, where it’s interesting but mostly centers around Red being the complex one. It’s neat how three of the five require intricacies to get to this mode in comparison.
Also, I joked about the Bazooka, but it’s really cool. My spring is dead, but I’ve seen a new one fire, and it can fly. It also has clips on the side so hold it to the waist, so I’m not afraid of displaying it while holding it since there’s actual engineering in place to deal with that and prevent the arm from eventually failing.
I also appreciate how Rocket Voyager-3 can combine with either 1 or 2. It’s not ever something you’re going to use in a display (unless you buy more than one copy, I guess), but I always appreciate stuff like that.
The Bad: The biggest disappointment of this set has always been Shuttle Voyager-2. You pop the head out the back, and the entirety of the Zord becomes a shield. I don’t like when they do that (as this is not the only time it has happened). It could have been smaller and incorporated into the chest, or bigger and given it actual wings (instead of taking the Mega Winger’s). Other than that, though, there isn’t much else to complain about.
Overall, this is a solid vintage release. This is one of the few occasions where nostalgia for playing with it as a kid is definitely shaping my opinion a bit, but I still feel like it’s super solid. I was originally going to stop with Mega Voyager, and not try tracking down Galaxy Mega or Delta Mega, but hearing people talk about that combined mode recently, and my own memories of owning it, are probably going to eventually make me replace it.
