Oh yo no estudie nada relacionado al arte-

En donde vivo no hay escuelas con la carrera de animación, por lo que tuve que aprender por cuenta propia.

Todo lo que se hasta el momento fue practicando y auto-educándome con información del internet.

Digo, llevo dibujando desde los 14 años, algo he tenido que aprender con el tiempo.

He tomado muchos videos de como aprender a dibujar.

Tome muchos videos del como animar, al igual que leyendo el "Kit de Supervivencia del Animador" que la verdad es un muy buen libro. Y soy honesta en que me falta mucho por aprender de esta área que es la animación 2D.

Ultimadamente, que me quiero dedicar al área del Storyboard, he visto algunas guías gratuitas por internet. Ver el trabajo de otros artistas que se dedican en esa área e intentar aprender de ellos.

Cosas así...

I used to draw in Clip Studio, but now I've been drawing in Procreate for almost a year, so I'm still using the default brushes because "comfort zone" lol

¿ Por que decidiste centrarte en Ben 10 ?

¿ Que te hizo enamorarte de esta serie y universo ? , lo digo porque amo tus post y tus explicaciones se nota que amas Ben 10 con todo el corazón

🤣🤣 fuera de broma~ pues fue el destino. Fue hace 3 años, pero sigo agradeciendo a mi amigo Lucky Lui por recordarme que siempre ame el ship de Rook x Ben, si no fuera por su animación probablemente hubiera tardado más años en dibujarlos.

Desde niña me gusta Ben 10, recuerdo haber visto todos los capitulos de Alien Force en estreno y algunos de Ultimate Alien (antes del cambio de voz de Gwen).

Aunque soy fan de Ben 10, no me preguntes del lore porque es muy confuso y dificil para mi.... aunque piensen que le sé, no soy tan pro para el lore (estoy más interesada en la historia de los humanos que los mismos aliens). Aunque hablenme si se trata de Rook 💙

Le sé mucho al Ben 10 pero tal vez nunca me veas en una comunidad del fandom (tal vez este agregada pero no comento, no publico nada y ni suelo entrar) esto debido a malas experiencias con gente mala/tóxica del propio fandom (gente robando arte, artistas/youtubers que son amigos de gente bully y que insulta a otros artistas sin ninguna razón y personas que comparten contenido explicito en paginas y grupos SafeForWork).

Pero no me malentiendas, tengo amigos/compañeros de parte de la comunidad, y es curioso que aunque nos veas hablando en Inglés, muchos somos parte de Latinoamerica que jamás deja que Ben 10 muera (aunque lo lamentable que lo que se hace viral/conocido es el arte incest0 y men0res... claro, no juzgo a la gente pero yo prefiero no estar relacionada a eso). 😅heh también lo curioso es que en el fandom hay mucha gente homofoba y gente parte de LGBT+.

Hiii thank you for the nice words! I had to dig a bit with brushes because they're both downloaded from Clip Studio Paint assets. But I got them!

First up is DrawingPen

Got it because the description said it was like a drawing pen, and I wanted something that was like the marker pens I used traditionally at the time. It's a neat brush, solid, very even strokes which I like a lot, and I do most of my art with this one.

The next one is fairly new to me, recomendation from a friend, these two brushes called Salmon Brushes.

Both slightly transluscent, one more than the other, similar to watercolours but more oily, and colours don't blend in fully if overlaid which is cool. My friend uses them for painting (follow her at chizz_dudlz on Instagram if you wanna see what I mean with awesome painting art) but I use it for sketch and sometimes for lineart because it feels very smooth to use them, for some reason. The lines are more modulated, unlike DrawingPen which is very even.

(You can't see it very well cuz these lines are thin overall but the line width differs more than the first piece because I used Salmon Brushes here)

Overall I pick my brushes more than anything on feel! Sometimes I've tried cool brushes other artists recommend but they felt wrong, so it's just a matter of trying things out and seeing what you like or gives you the result you want :)

Me acabo de enterar que unos animadores de mi país van a sacar una serie animada para cartoon network. Se supone que va a "representar" a Chile, con su idiosincrasia y costumbres. Pero francamente lo dudo, después de todo, la familia nuclear de padre, madre e hija no es una realidad en Chile, país donde gran parte de las familias no tienen padres porque estos abandonan a sus hijos, siendo estos criados mayoritariamente por madres, abuelas y tías (suceso que aumentó con la pandemia). Los nombres de los personajes son gringos y suenan gringos al final del día y donde viven luce como un suburbio gringo, acá no tenemos esas viviendas, ni siquiera en el barrio alto.

La chica protagonista se llama Mandy porque, según me dijo uno de los animadores, es por llamarse Amanda. Nadie jamás acá le ha dicho "Mandy" a las personas llamadas Amanda. Es más, el nombre Amanda tiene un peso histórico fuerte ya que nos remite a la canción del compositor y artista nacional Víctor Jara, que fue detenido, torturado y asesinado en el Estadio Nacional por la dictadura generada por Estados Unidos. Victor Jara en su canción "Te recuerdo Amanda" nos habla de una mujer del mismo nombre que a pesar de la lluvia va a dejar el almuerzo a su amado esposo Manuel que trabaja en una fabrica. Finalmente Manuel, junto con otros trabajadores muere. Amanda también se llama la hija del músico y la canción y su obra se enmarca en las canciones sociales y de protesta del movimiento Nueva Canción Chilena, que trataba de construir una identidad, reconocer las luchas y opresiones de la clase obrera, así como oponerse a la colonización cultural europea y estadounidense. Así que no, en Chile el diminutivo o apodo de Amanda no es "Mandy", eso no es nada más que un nombre gringo que no tiene ninguna conexión real con nuestra cultural. La madre de este personaje se llama Rubí y, de nuevo, para un gringo va a sonar igual que Ruby y en Chile el nombre Rubí no es en alsoluto común y es, en el mejor de los casos (que es el peor de los casos), una referencia a un personaje de una telenovela con personajes clase alta como protagonistas y heroes (como todas las teleseries chilenas de los últimos 20 años) y que es emitida en el canal nacional católico de ultra derecha que es propiedad de uno de los fascistas más grandes del país y que contribuyó a la dictadura y actualmente a perpetrar su legado. El padre? el padre se llama Brad y este es, como ya podrán suponer, un nombre que no es parte de la cultura chilena. En palabras de uno de los propios creadores, se llama Brad porque cree que suena "cool" y me da de ejemplo 2 artistas chilenos que se pusieron nombres en inglés en pos de imitar a los gringos, algo común en el país con el colonialismo cultural que sufría y que se intensificó en Dictadura, siendo ambos artistas encubridores de crímenes de la dictadura. Es más, Brad gusta de las motos y es motoquero, y un tipo especifico que, en Chile, es propio de la clase alta fascista ya que son los únicos que pueden darse el lujo de comprar una moto de ese estilo y salir a la carretera a recorrer puesto tienen el dinero para semejante actividad de ocio. Los personajes son blancos y no morenos, la clase alta son los pálidos aquí y debido al colorismo/racismo, lucir "blanco" es bueno, mientras que ser moreno es algo indeseable. La madre es pelirroja, algo también que no ocurre en Chile, es algo sumamente escaso y que se concentra básicamente en la clase alta cuyos ancestros vienen de europa en el siglo pasado y europeos o yankees que viven acá.

Me da asco que la serie sea promovida bajo la idea de "orgullo nacional" por llegar al corazón del imperio (USA) y que, de alguna manera, nos va a "representar". No, no lo va a hacer. De hecho en un inicio la animación tenía un nombre totalmente en inglés, a pesar de ser creado por, en ese entonces, una universitaria chilena en una universidad chilena. Peor teniendo en cuenta que esta gente ahora hace clases y en una de las universidades caras y más corruptas del país ostentando puestos que sería imposible obtener siendo proletario y sin nepotismo o acción similar. Si tanta vergüenza sienten de como somos, entonces derechamente di que son personajes gringos porque amas estados unidos o di que no tienen relación alguna con Chile, pero no traten de venderlo como si fuera una "obra nacional" porque no lo es. Y más rabia me da que tengan la cara de sentirse molestos o "confundidos" porque se les señala lo evidente y que sea el creador más moreno de los tres el que salga a negar que son nombres gringos y a hacer piruetas mentales para justificarlo. Chile es un país al sur de estados unidos hasta el día de hoy, como siempre siendo el patio trasero del imperio y abrazando el colonialismo cultural estadounidense y haciéndolo pasar como la norma.

I just found out that some animators from my country are going to have an animated series for cartoon network. It is supposed to "represent" Chile, with its idiosyncrasy and customs. But frankly I doubt it, after all, the nuclear family of father, mother and daughter is not a reality in Chile, a country where most of the families do not have parents because they abandon their children, being these raised mostly by mothers, grandmothers, sisters, and aunts (a fact that increased with the pandemic). The names of the characters are gringo and sound gringo at the end of the day and where they live looks like a gringo suburb, here we don't have that kind of housing, not even in the upper neighborhood.

The main character is called Mandy because, according to what one of the animators told me, it's because her name is Amanda. No one here has ever said "Mandy" to people named Amanda. Moreover, the name Amanda has a strong historical weight since it refers to the song of the national composer and artist Victor Jara, who was arrested, tortured and murdered in the Estado Nacional (National Stadium) by the dictatorship generated by the United States. Victor Jara in his song "Te recuerdo Amanda" tells us about a woman of the same name that despite the rain goes to leave lunch to her beloved husband Manuel who works in a factory. Finally Manuel, along with other workers dies. Amanda is also called the daughter of the musician and the song and her work is framed within the social and protest songs of the Nueva Canción Chilena movement, which tried to build an identity, recognize the struggles and oppressions of the working class, as well as oppose the European and American cultural colonization.

So no, in Chile the diminutive or nickname for Amanda is not "Mandy", that is nothing more than a gringo name that has no real connection with our culture. The mother of this character is called Rubí and, again, for a gringo it will sound the same as Ruby and in Chile the name Rubí is not at all common and is, in the best case scenario, a reference to a character in a soap opera with upper class characters as protagonists and heroes (like all Chilean soap operas of the last 20 years) and which is broadcasted on the ultra right wing Catholic national channel which is owned by one of the biggest fascists in the country and which contributed to the dictatorship and currently perpetuates its legacy. In the worst of cases is called Rubí bc sounds like Ruby.

The father? the father's name is Brad and this is, as you might guess, a name that is not part of the Chilean culture. In the words of one of the creators themselves, his name is Brad because he thinks it sounds "cool" and he gives me as an example two Chilean artists who gave themselves names in English in order to imitate the gringos, something common in the country with the cultural colonialism it suffered and which intensified during the dictatorship, being both artists cover-ups of crimes of the dictatorship. Moreover, Brad likes motorcycles and is a biker, and a specific type that, in Chile, is typical of the fascist upper class since they are the only ones who can afford to buy a motorcycle of that style and go out on the road to travel since they have the money for such a leisure activity. The characters are white and not brown, the upper class are the pale ones here and due to colorism/racism, looking "white" is good, while being brown is undesirable. The mother has red hair, which is also something that does not happen in Chile, it is something extremely scarce and is basically concentrated in the upper class whose ancestors come from Europe in the last century and Europeans or Yankees who live here.

It disgusts me that the series is being promoted under the idea of "national pride" for reaching the heart of the empire (USA) and that it is somehow going to "represent" us. No, it won't. In fact, at one time the animation had a name totally in English, in spite of being created by, at that time, a Chilean university student in a Chilean university. Worse considering that these people are now doing classes and in one of the most expensive and corrupt universities in the country holding positions that would be impossible to obtain being a proletarian and without nepotism or similar action. If you are so ashamed of how we are, then just say that they are gringo characters because you love the United States or say that they have no relation with Chile, but do not try to sell it as if it were a "national work" because it is not. And it makes me even angrier that they have the nerve to feel annoyed or "confused" because the obvious is pointed out to them and that it is the darkest creator of the three who comes out to deny that they are gringo names and to make mental pirouettes to justify it. Chile is a country south of the United States to this day, as always being the backyard of the empire and embracing U.S. cultural colonialism and passing it off as the norm.

Algunos datos sobre la producción:

DinoPops es una de las primeras series animadas completamente en Unreal Engine. Su primera temporada cuenta con 52 episodios y más de 250 minutos de animación. Más de 80 artistas de Argentina, México e India trabajamos arduamente para entendernos.
