I think one trope that is very underused as far as I can tell is that you have a fun little setting with one medium and then introduce eldritch abominations that have a different art style so by comparison they look truly otherworldly and terrifying.
I mean just LOOK at these
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Archangel Morgante from Cassette Beasts and Oktavia von Seckendorff from Puella Magi Madoka Magica)
These are the only two places I've seen this concept, but it really is interesting at least to me. If you see this recommend more media with acid trip eldritch gods like these

Movement Project - Artist Research, Q Hayashida
Q Hayashida is a Japanese manga creator known for her works such as Dorohedoro and Dai Dark.
In one of her rare interviews, Hayashida reveals that she is a mixed media artist who uses whatever media she ‘feels like in the moment.’
The chaotic, sketchy, raw and colourful look to her art works harmoniously as she depicts her gory and dark but funny stories.
Tumblr media
I love her usage of gouache, watercolour, ink and pen, majority of the time mixing these media together in the same piece creating a layered texture reminiscent of grime, reflecting the apocalyptic settings often found in Hayashida’s manga. Matching her colours, line weight and compositions to fit each scene and its tone is highly impressive and a source of inspiration for myself since I first read her work Dorohedoro many months ago.
Her character design is also equally interesting. Dorohedoro’s cast including the protagonist, Kaiman, a man with a lizard head searching for the sorcerer who cursed him, mypersonal favourite being Jonson, a giant realistic cockroach and plenty others, diverse, well-written and designed human characters. I can’t forget the monsters, each with unique personalities highlighted by their designs, brilliantly adding to the horror aspect of her works.
Lastly, my favourite technique Q Hayashida uses to instil discomfort, is her use of repetition and massive spaces, infinite crowds of monsters showing the viewer how powerlessness feels and drawing giant empty settings, such as a department store where the protagonists are stuck in devoid of all life, which perfectly matched the unease the characters she wrote were feeling.

Artist inspiration: Yuko Tatsushima
Tumblr media
Many of her pieces centre around women and their place in the world. Grief, marriage, sexualization. Her use of colour and the erratic and frenzied lines assemble a story of how women are used and abused. This fits in my theme of relationships because of how many people go through toxic and abusive situations, yet they are unaware of the damage being done to them. How their sense of self, their own self esteem change.
Tumblr media
“I cannot be a bride anymore”
This piece in particular resonates with me as a woman in the modern world. Women are seen as undesirable and ruined when they aren’t virgins. People’s view on you can change in an instant. This piece (above) visually represents what a “used” woman looks like. I hope to convey the emotion behind her depictions in my own work for this project. She gave me the idea to break down typical roles in relationship, partners, sisters, mothers, and show a twisted, judgemental view of them.

hope this doesn't come across weird but your art somehow, Somehow?? reminds me of diabolik lovers. I don't know why because it's not the same art style but the thought is always there in my head? I needed to get this off my chest lmao . <3
That's because I always loved Diabolik Lovers and trains to draw like Diabolik Lovers!! Every day, I strive to get closer to Diabolik Lovers art style!!!!!
... Yeah, no, hahahaha.
I always admired the way that artist, Satoi, was it? Drew the eyes and shade the hairs colorfully tho. They are so pleasing to look at.

This is the only aesthetic pic of Yui I can find. Prob the only pic where she is happy and safe too.
And I do worship her other work, Olympia Soiree.

Did you know? Or did you forget? You can do whatever you want with your art. Put random scribbles wherever. Horizontal lines over your character. Add dots everywhere and on everything. Draw eyes different than the rest of the face. Change art styles halfway through. Cut and glue paper cutouts. Use paints and markers together. Use all the filters. Use photos on top to add texture.
You can do what you want. Like literally literally literally.
Add a rubber ducky in the corner for no reason, put text in different languages on the background, leave your handprints or wipe your fingers on the paper.
Go have fun now this stuff isn't meant to be stressful for you

****** Here are some user listening instructions to enhance your experience and maximize the benefits:
1. **Background Listening:** Let the affirmations play in the background during your daily activities. Whether you're working, exercising, or doing household chores, allow the positive messages to permeate your surroundings. The subconscious mind is receptive, even when you're not actively focusing on the affirmations.
2. **Meditation Mode:** Set aside a few minutes each day for a dedicated meditation session. Find a quiet and comfortable space, play the affirmations, and focus on your breath. Let the positive words guide you into a state of calm and mindfulness, reinforcing the affirmations at a deeper level.
3. **Interactive Affirming:** Engage with the affirmations actively by repeating them aloud or in your mind. Use the video as a guide and affirm along with the positive statements. This participatory approach can strengthen the impact of the affirmations as you internalize them consciously.
4. **Loop for Maximum Benefit:** The affirmations in this video loop three times for maximum effectiveness. Feel free to let the video replay or manually loop it to extend your listening experience. Repetition is a key factor in affirmations' efficacy, reinforcing positive beliefs and intentions.
Remember, consistency is key. Choose the listening style that resonates most with you, and make these affirmations a regular part of your routine. Whether in the background, during meditation, or actively affirming, these positive messages are designed to uplift and empower you on your journey. Enjoy the transformative experience! 🌟

What inspired your art style
I find it unique the way you draw shapes and line art!
-cracks knuckles-
The recipe for my particular flavour of art is quite obvious once you know the ingredients, please follow below:
I’m a 90’s kid first and foremost, YuGiOh was the first big inspiration.
You can spot Kazuki Takahashi’s solid black shading and white highlights on reflective surfaces are a staple in my current style.
Look at this beautiful Millenium Eye, don’t you just wanna lick it?
Tumblr media
Another specific technique: fabric folds. I love how Takahashi uses solid wedges of black to carve out the wrinkles in fabric (or in some cases, solid white on a black fabric). No blending needed! I apply these shapes both in the lineart (with solid black) or the shadow layer (on multiply) without softening/blending on the edges.
Tumblr media
Next up is Jamie Hewlett, most known for designing the Gorillaz characters. This heavily influenced my aesthetic away from pure anime/manga and into a wider culture of pop, punk and graffiti.
On the technical aspects, I started thickening my lines and squaring/rounding off my shapes to have a more blunt, chunky feel.
On the Character aesthetic side, it also made me realise that characters don’t need to be conventionally attractive to be appealing. Bad posture? Crooked teeth? Baggy eyes? Hewlett is 100% responsible for all my ocs slowly turning into gremlins and tumblr sexymen.
Tumblr media
I absolutely have to highlight how he draws hands, there’s an almost uncomfortable level of detail and realism that feels out of place on a cartoon character. The tendons, joints and wrinkles wouldn’t be out of place on a zombie, but all the gestures and poses feel very familiar. Like these are people I could have passed in my day by day.
That could just be me projecting - as someone who rarely looks people in the face, I tend to watch peoples hands the most; They give the lions share of body language and help humanize a character.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And now we have colour, which is a bit tricky since I still haven’t quite managed to figure out.
So instead I’ll point towards what I’m wanting to do more.
BrotherBaston: his use of bold shades, constrained colour palette and a light touch of gradients are something I aspire to use more.
There’s a level of clean, knowing when to embellish, and when to hold back on an artwork that I still struggle to balance. The ability to clearly visually communicate a character’s pose, design and intention.
This kind of precision and restraint is something I wish to learn, both in linework, colouring and character design.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Luckily for us he makes tutorials on youtube for anyone else wanting to check out his techniques!
And that's about it~ I've got a few honorable mentions to throw in at the end here: Banksy: Their bold stencils further influenced my use of solid shadows and strong shapes to build volume in an image, as well as being my introduction to graffiti
Mike Mignola: More amazing solid shadows and fantastic blocky shapes! I love the chonk.
Zdzisław Beksiński: Whenever I'm drawing more detailed body horror, this guy lives rent free in my head. A real chaotic layering of skeletal limbs twisting together into knots.
H.R. Giger: On the more erotic side of body horror spectrum, not much more needed to be said there
