It's cool when Merthur fics go in depth on homophobia of the time plots but also if there is any medieval setting where you can have the King just decide to say "fuck social convention" and do what he wants its THE ONE WHO USED A ROUND TABLE FOR HIS KNIGHTS

We're pretty used to the concept by now but I dont think we always appreciate how batshit insane Arthur is. Or how crazy it is the amount of unthinkable stunts he gets away with. the magic was secondary to aurhurian legends when the real fantasy was a King who would and could radically change the system that kept the lower classes powerless and unseen

🤔 Appearance wise, Merlin doesn't look much older than Morgan in the Camelot show. I would put him in his late 30's and I would put her in her late 20's. (It doesn’t help either that the actor and actress have a 10 year difference as well).

If we go with just appearance, that would mean Merlin was a young man, making himself known to the world, when he met Uther.

Starz Igraine commented that present!Merlin did not look any different from the day he took newborn Arthur from her arms tho. And that event happened 18-20 years prior (im not sure of starz arthur's age lol)

And a that time Morgan should've been around 10-15 (i cant peg her younger self to a specific age either) I always think that Merlin and Uther were kinda of the same age especially in more faithful screen adaptations like Excalibur 1981 (tho merlin appearance never changes), Merlin 1998 and Starz Camelot 2011

But in the legends didn't Uther meet Merlin as a young boy? or maybe im wrong.. i havent finished reading the early parts of prose merlin.

and yet, it is literally from bbc merlin, a show about a magic servant that tries to sacrifice himself for the life of his prince everyday.

but tbh, king arthur and merlin are a tale of tragic romance and a classic novel.

bbc's merlin was literally thee most show of all time they gave us a black actress playing guinevere, one of the greatest queerbaits of our time, katie mcgrath (sword), katie mcgrath (evil), blatant disregard for any sort of historical accuracy, a queer metaphor they publicly said "didn't mean anything", and then at the end they fucking killed king arthur. truly legendary.

when merlin leaves to go back to ealdor arthur says “you’ll come back though” cause he can’t FATHOM merlin leaving him forever. and then he first night merlin is gone, the first night, arthur sneaks out of the castle to come fight with him. so that he will come home with him after. this is 10 episodes after they meet btw
