Finally soup weather, and we had beets at work. I'm going to be honest though...I cheaped out on the ham hock. I had bought two raw ones at the Asian market for ten bucks a piece, but it turned out I needed a smoked ham hock for this recipe and a raw one for another. Welp, smoked ham hocks are thirty bucks each, and I literally already had an extra raw one. So here we are.
Tumblr media
Also, pigs foot. Recipe called for one, I put this whole bag (right). Partly to try to compensate for the lack of smoke on my ham hock (left), partly just to use it all up so I didn't end up with old pigs feet in my freezer for a year.
Tumblr media
Standard veg. One lonely turnip. I rubbed the ham hock with smoked salt, but I don't think it changed much.
Tumblr media
Most of the beets are diced, but one beet is shredded, which adds a nice texture. I made sure to get real lard for this one too, even though my pork stock is already very thick with fat and gelatin from the feet and hock.
I may have added a tiny bit of chicken bouillon, replaced two of the garlic cloves for roasted garlic cloves, and put a little blob of red miso to make up for the complexity of flavour that I was lacking from the missing smoked hock...
Pork stock, ready, mise en place, ready. Then I realize I don't have a pot big enough for this, aside from my stock pot, which is comically huge for this amount of borscht. So that was fun to wrestle with.
Tumblr media
Very nice beets. I managed to not stain my kitchen, which is a bonus.
Tumblr media
Topped with sour cream and dill fronds. Incredibly veg heavy, not very brothy. Didn't get much meat off the ham hock in the end.
| Hot Borscht |
Taste is a 4 out of 5. Enjoyed this more than I expected to. Gave some away to a coworker and got very good feedback.
Difficulty is a 2.5 out of 5. Bit of a complex soup recipe, but worth the work.
Time was about 3 hours. Longer than I thought it would take. We ate a little late.
Since this was so good, I'm sure it could be a 5 out of 5 if I had used a real smoked ham hock. And obviously I just happened to find some cheaper ones at a different grocery store, so I may just give this another shot. That bag of beets I bought was pretty big...

Tumblr media
15-Allow chocolate to set.
16-Transfer the remaining melted chocolate into a small ziploc bag or piping bag. Snip off the corner of the bag and drizzle melted chocolate over the tops of the set truffles.

Notes :
The ganache can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 1 week or in the freezer for up to 1 month before rolling it into truffles.
Melting wafers need to be heated slowly and stirred frequently. Stop heating when there are just a few small chunks of chocolate left in the mixture. Then stir until they melt completely.
You can reheat the melting wafers if the mixture becomes too thick while dipping the truffles.
Do not get any water in the melting wafters or they will seize up.

Blueberry cake with cream cheese frosting
Tumblr media
Ingredients:
175g soft butter
175g golden caster sugar
3 large eggs
225g self-raising flour
1 tsp baking powder
2 tsp vanilla extract
142ml carton soured cream
3 x punnets blueberry
>> Get a FREE EBOOK With 500 Recipes Here <<
Cream cheese frosting:
200g full-fat cream cheese
100g icing sugar
Derictions:
STEP 1: Preheat the oven to fan160C/ conventional 180C/gas 4 and butter and line the base of a loose-based 22cm round cake tin with non-stick baking paper or reusable Bake-o-glide.
STEP 2: Put the butter, sugar, eggs, flour, baking powder and vanilla in a bowl. Beat with a wooden spoon for 2-3 minutes, or with a hand electric beater for 1-2 minutes, until lighter in colour and well mixed. Beat in 4 tbsp soured cream, then stir in half the blueberries with a large spoon.
STEP 3: Tip the mixture into the tin and spread it level. Bake for 50 minutes until it is risen, feels firm to the touch and springs back when lightly pressed. Cool for 10 minutes, then take out of the tin and peel off the paper or lining. Leave to finish cooling on a wire rack.
STEP 4: To make the frosting, beat the soft cheese with the icing sugar and the remaining soured cream in a bowl until smooth and creamy. Spread over the top of the cooled cake (don't be impatient as the frosting will melt if the cake is too warm) and scatter with the remaining blueberries. The cake will keep in the fridge for a couple of days. Bring it to room temperature for about an hour before serving.

Thank fuck I've now learned to read the whole recipe all the way through before starting...
Tumblr media
Pretty easy one. Didn't expect to be eating it at room temp though.
Tumblr media
Start with summer veg, tomato paste, garlic and thyme. I used my fancy French thyme, obviously.
Tumblr media
All diced to the same size, and only use the outer bits of the eggplant that have skin on them. A waste of an eggplant in my opinion, but those are the instructions.
Sautee the onion and garlic on medium high until soft, season it then add the thyme and tomato paste. Dump that on a sheet pan to cool. Then clean the pan, oil, and sautee each vegetable seperately. Salt and pepper the batches as you go, then dump each on to a sheet pan to cool. Methodical and satisfying.
Tumblr media
Tell me that isn't so fucking satisfying. Now the weird part. Once it's all at room temp, combine with balsamic vinegar (Tony says good quality aged stuff. I saw the Parts Unknown episode in France, I know the quality vinegar he wants. I cannot afford that. So I'm using Kirkland Signature brand), torn basil and a splash more olive oil (I used good Tunisian olive oil, at least).
Tumblr media
Mix thoroughly, cover and sit at room temp for THREE TO FOUR HOURS to allow the flavours to marry. What the fuck. Never in my life have I ever. Then you're expected to serve it at room temp as well. Sure bro.
Tumblr media
I did a simple baked herbed chicken breast as a main, nothing fancy that might outshine the ratatouille itself. Could've used a carb though.
| Ratatouille |
Taste is a 3 out of 5. Fresh and summery.
Difficulty is a 2 out of 5. Knife work and quick sauteeing, pretty straightforward.
Time was like 40 minutes, until the 3-4 hour marinade. Fuck sake.
I completely see why Tony says this isn't a real ratatouille and that his French friends judged him for it.
The veg is supposed to be cooked together into a sort of stew. I'm pretty sure you're supposed to serve it hot. This is an okay side dish, but you make a bunch of extra work for yourself.
It was pretty good eaten cold from the fridge the next day...

How about a Diabolik fic where the reader is the only Sakamaki sibling who acts strange during a blood moon? I'll let you decide what strange is if you want.
From Author: Okay so I did some extra digging on what would be considered strange to a vampire during a blood moon and it's just the opposite of the regular effects. I took some creative liberties with this so I hope you enjoy! Thank you for submitting this!
TW: Graphic depictions of violence!
A Vampire's Dissension
Tumblr media
The sun's rays painted a warm hue across the sky, dying the clouds a soft pink and orange. Birds and humans alike were scuttling about to make their way home before nightfall. For it was when the twilight hour hits, that predators emerged from the shadows. To avoid being caught in the unforgiving jaws of death, one needed to be vigilant as to not get entrapped by these crowned monarchs of the moon, these sultans of sadism. Their ambition was relentless and so was their appetite.
Tonight however, was an especially particular night. Blood Moons were special occasions in which a vampire's abilities were amplified, along with their unyielding thirst for that deliciously, savoury, scarlet syrup. It was a known fact that no bride has ever survived a night in the Sakamaki mansion. As unfortunate as it is, this family has a reputation of killing their prey. Many brides have come but never gone, as their crying souls became trapped in the mansion where they all met an untimely demise.
You'd be lying if you said you didn't have a couple bodies stacking up on your end either. To be fair, it's not like you tried to kill them, you just lacked a significant amount of restraint. And if you were being honest with yourself, you've always been that way for as long as you can remember. You noticed that with every Blood Moon, your predatorial instincts seemed to contort into pure unbridled aggression. It became an unbearable flame that scorched throughout your body, begging, crying, wailing for you to drink something more.
You stood near the manor's old balcony, watching how the setting sun drained any and all natural light dry from the sky. It wouldn't be long now before the moon started taking effect. Your veins began to pulsate and writhe under your fleshy arm, almost as if beating out your very body. You gritted your teeth as you remembered the last Blood Moon. You had requested Reiji to make specially tailored tranquilizers to subdue you, which it did.... For half an hour. After that brief period of peace, the stairwell was completely destroyed and Subaru refused to speak to you for a week. Your hostility wasn't unknown to the family, but that still didn't make it tolerable to put up with. From feeling thirsty and irritated, your emotions quickly took a turn to being aggravated and wrathful.
You stood there contemplating ways on how to isolate yourself from your brothers so you wouldn't cause harm to them. As night began to ink the sky, you decided it was better to lock yourself in your room and distract your mind. You sifted through your belongings before finding a cookbook hidden in your backpack. That's right, you were meant to prepare a meal from home and bring it to your home economics class the next day, using a list of designated recipes that your teacher highlighted. You skimmed over the book, scanning for any recipes you could make. Your eyes were immediately glued to a page on Beef Shigureni.
You'd never made it before, but Reiji was extremely talented when it came to making the stew up to his standards. You began to feel peckish as you read through the ingredients, mouth drooling at the images the book had displayed. Soon enough, that slight hunger metamorphisized into voraciousness. You could smell the succulent aroma of the prepared meat, drowning in its delicious flavours. Abruptly, a knock was made at the door which jolted you out of your thoughts. You noticed how the scent seemed to linger in the air. Were you that hungry that you were experiencing phantom sense? Your fingertips brushed against the cold doorknob as you twisted it open, only to be met with sly eyes and a smirk that could kill.
"Oh? Why the cruel expression? And here I thought you'd be elated to get a visit from your dear brother~" You rolled your eyes at Laito before replying. "What do you want? I'm kinda busy right now." Laito peeked into your room hearing this, eyes searching every corner until you had to push him back out into the hall. With your hands pressed against his chest, and arms flexing, you finally got him out of your personal space. "Hm? And here I thought you meant you were busy with a cute little plaything, how depressing." You clicked your tongue and looked him dead in the eyes. "You should leave before it starts." Laito raised an eyebrow at this.
"The moon isn't at its peak yet. Unless you really are getting that bad?" You noticed the very slight hint of concern in your brother's voice. "I felt it even when the sun was setting.... But I should be okay for now. Still, we don't know when it'll happen, so it's best you leave." Laito met your gaze with a cold hard stare. "If you try anything on me, I won't be going down that easily. Neither will the others. Stay in your room." You almost had chills hearing Laito speak so sternly to you. It was obvious he was worried for the others and for you. Despite his provocative nature, beneath was a man riddled by the fleas of abuse, and something about you going on a rampage seemed to bubble up memories once long buried. You couldn't help but notice how the succulent aroma from before seemed to be radiating off of Laito.
"Reiji mentioned something about you meeting him in his lab. If what you're saying is true, I'd hurry there before you bite his head off." And in an instant, he teleported away. You sighed and decided to find Reiji before it was too late. Your stomach growled and screamed, begging to be fed especially after your encounter with Laito. You admitted that it was srange that he smelled exactly like the recipe, but didn't let it bother you as you made your way to Reiji's lab.
You rapped on the door gently, fingers beating against the oak wood. You listened as it creaked open to reveal a dignified looking man behind it. "I see you've gotten my message. Come inside." You made your way into his lab and sat down on one of the chairs. "Deplorable...." You rolled your eyes and looked at him with an expression that could only transmit the words 'Get a grip'. He coughed lightly into his gloved hand, making an ahem sound. "I've prepared this sedative for you to try." Reiji pushed his glasses up before handing you a tiny glass vial with the most repungant, foul, revolting liquid you've ever smelled. You corked your nose shut before refusing to accept the bottle.
"Don't be a child. This is for the safety of all of us." You listened to Reiji's words and knew they were true. You knew all he was doing was trying to help. But even so, that concoction made you gag so much you thought you might throw up. You grabbed the tiny bottle and just seconds before you downed it, there was that scent again. That deliciously deceitful scent. It wrapped around your brain, clouding all your senses. As you gave into the smell, you couldn't help but notice that your senses became heightened. Your veins began to throb once again, pumping through your body. Being a vampire, your heart hadn't a reason to beat, but every Blood Moon seemed to tell a different tale. The feeling could only be described as want, the same kind of want that a predator feels when stalking its prey.
Reiji sighed at your incompetence to even simply drink something. He marched over to where you remained sat, seemingly stuck in a trance. "You understand the importance of the little time we have, don't you?" You didn't hear him. All sound was tuned out as your mind began to fog. As a matter of fact, you didn't see him either. Visions of rabbits running around in a forest at night as you watched from a hidden position formed in your mind. Reiji grabbed the bottle from your hand and had planned to force feed it to you, but as soon as his clothed fingers made contact with yours, you yanked him forwards and sank your teeth into his throat.
He let out a grunt as he tried to get you off of him, but you rammed his body into a shelf, teeth unmoving from their position. You sucked every trickle of blood that dare made its way down his neck, the crimson ooze only tantalizing you further. Your fangs sunk into his bloody flesh as he squirmed and fought, which only made you more adamant on not letting him escape. You began to press deeper and deeper into his muscle tissue before ripping your fangs out, along with a chunk of his flesh. Blood spurred everywhere, coating your face. Your hair became messier and tousled, pupils dilated far back, fangs dripping with the scarlet syrup you craved. You began to chew that piece of flesh that you ripped out, tearing it to shreds as Reiji slowly crawled out of the lab, leaving a trail of Vermilion behind.
It wasn't long after that your tastebuds were hit with sensations of the one thing you've been craving this entire time, meat. You searched the house far and wide until your gaze was met with Ayato's disturbed stare. He was horrified at the state you were in, looking up from below the stairwell. His shock was beyond what words could describe. Reiji lay behind him, Subaru using his own body to block his injured form. Shu stared at you, unsure of his own emotions. He knew you saw him as a meal, and for the first time in his life, he felt like prey. Despite their enhanced powers, none of them stood a chance against you alone, so it was imperative they stuck together. Your lips were stained with your own brother's blood as you stood there heaving, waiting, watching, like a predator about to pounce.
You ran down the stairs faster than any of them could comprehend, teeth bared like a wild dog as you sprinted towards Ayato. In the flash of a second, pain shot through both your arms as you let out a pained cry, howling like a beast as blood gushed from your palms, soaking the carpeted staircase in your fluids. Laito and Kanato had teleported just as you ran, iron stakes in hand as they plunged into your hands. They dashed up the stairs as they pinned you to the wall. At this point you were thrashing and snarling at them, not a coherent word to be let out. Anger took over and almost overrided the pain, until Shu appeared right before you, clenching your jaw and forcing your mouth open as he shoved that putrid concoction from before, down into your throat. In a matter of seconds, your eyelids began to feel heavy and as much as you fought, you fell asleep.

It was just a night, much like any other, when everything changed. Kara was tired- between the apartment fire and her work that day at CatCo and mopping up another alien crime ring, she’s barely slept in four days and had been skipping meals. It was a rare thing indeed when Lena was pestering Kara to eat lunch.
As soon as she reached the house, she glanced up and tilted her glasses down. Lena was in the kitchen, hard at work. A quick scan of the countertop revealed the mess she’d made putting together her homemade gyoza. As with everything in her life, when Lena decided to learn to cook, that she might pamper her girlfriend and her superhuman appetite, Lena went into it fully, taking culinary classes and equipping the remodeled kitchen of their suburban homestead with every conceivable gadget. Lena’s first change to the house was a bump-out that turned the already expansive “chef’s kitchen” into a near-commercial level culinary laboratory, and she threw herself into making dumplings with the same gusto with which she had set about solving the energy crisis, as if the freshly made potstickers awaiting the oil heating in the gas-powered commercial wok were as vital to humanity’s future as the fusion plant she was building in the desert.
Kara stopped in the entryway to the kitchen and drank Lena in, enjoying the fleeting moment before she was noticed. Hands covered in flour the elbow, Lena hunched over her cookbook, expression furrowed in deep concentration. She’s dressed down in a baggy flannel and patterned leggings that hugged the inviting curve of her hips that cried out for Kara’s hands, and wore her hair in a simple, loose ponytail. Everything about her was soft and cozy and home, and Kara would trade a king’s feast for one taste of those soft lips.
The whole scene played out in her mind. She’s sidle up behind Lena, who’d crack a joke about Kara being dressed as the CEO, and pretend she hadn’t noticed Kara’s return. Kara would let down her hair and bury her fingers in it, then her nose to devour Lena’s scent. As soon as Kara’s lips found the curve of Lena’s jaw, dinner would be indefinitely postponed and Kara would sate her hunger in other and better ways.
Then, she heard it. Beneath Lena’s heartbeat, strong and steady and safe, was another. A tiny, racing thing, like a baby bird. Kara stood there dumbfounded for too long a beat before she understood and let out a soft cry.
Lena looked up.
“Darling? What’s wrong?”
Kara fought to keep her voice from choking but failed. “I love you.”
“Did something happen?” Lena said, turning from the counter. “Kara, what is it?”
“I love you. I’m not angry and we’re okay. I just need Alex. I’ll be right back, I promise.”
Lena nodded. “Okay.”
Kara was out the door and in her suit and flying just fast enough not to endanger Lena. They’d been trying for months for this; dozens of visits to the Fortress, tests, experiments. She knew that, eventually, it would work.
It was hitting her now. Kara landed a little too hard on Alex’s back porch and knocked on the glass.
Alex was there in an instant. “Kara? What’s wrong? Is everything…”
“Lena’s pregnant.”
Alex’s face went briefly blank. “Oh.”
“Can I come in?”
“Yeah.”
Kara stepped into the house, sat down. As she took a seat, sweeping her cape to the side, Alex poured them both glasses of seltzer water and joined her. They sat quietly for a long time.
They were both quiet for a few minutes before Alex said, “How did you find out?”
“I heard it. I don’t know if she knows.”
“Kara,” said Alex, “did you run?”
Kara looked up sharply, eyes stinging with tears. “What have I done?”
“I don’t understand.”
“We made a baby, Alex. A little person, a living being we’re bringing into the world. What have I done?”
“Kara?” Said Alex, resting her hand on Kara’s. “Slow down, okay? Breathe. Tell me what you’re thinking.”
“Lena and I talked about this,” said Kara. “This life we have, being together, all the risks. We agreed to it. This little baby didn’t. She’s going to see her mom getting her head punched in on TV. What if I get sent to the Phantom Zone again? What if I die?”
“You won’t-“
“I already have,” Kara snapped, surging to her feet. “How many times, Alex? How many? What if there’s no magic grass to bring me back next time? What if I leave them alone?”
Alex stared at her, face an unreadable mask, heart racing.
Kara turned, frantic, and paced Alex’s kitchen, her eyes drawn inexorably to Esme’s drawings on the fridge, to the pictures of Alex and Kelly on the living room wall.
“So don’t,” said Alex.
“How?”
“Maybe it’s time for Supergirl to hang it up.”
Kara froze, and this time it was her own heart she heard hammering in her chest, batting against its cage of ribs as if it might break free. Her eyes found the mirror above the living room sofa and she saw herself now in the colors and crest of her house.
Her house.
“What do you mean?”
Alex stood up. “You have died three times,” she said. Clinically dead. I was there. Maybe it is time for it to stop.”
“I can’t do that to them again,” Kara agreed.
“No, but I’m not saying this for them, Kara. I’m saying it for you. You paid. Whatever debt you think you owe, you’ve paid it.”
Kara covered her mouth in her hand, biting back a sob as the tears came.
“Why should I have this, huh? Tell me why I should have it? Just because they all died and I didn’t?”
Alex stood there, stuck silent. Kara knew the hug was coming before it arrived, and melted into it. Alex gripped her firm and strong.
“I have so much to lose now,” Kara sobbed.
“No, Kara. You have so much to live for now.”
Kara’s eyes flicked open. She stared last Alex, ignoring the sting of free flowing tears. The thought of all that had come before. The sight of Krypton, crumbling in a green flash as if devoured by some great primordial dragon. Reign and Red Daughter, the darkness that has gripped her between death and Sol’s loving warmth, gifted by the soul of this Earth herself.
They were not grave markers but way stones, not portents of doom but a map. A map that led only one place.
“I have to go. Lena.”
“It’s okay,” said Alex. “Go home to your girl, Kara. Call me when you’re up for it, and maybe you can talk to Kelly, too.”
“I’d like that.”
A few minutes later, Kara came to a gentle landing on the upstairs balcony and entered through their bedroom. She could smell dinner, and a quick glance told her that Lena had finished cooking and was waiting for her downstairs with a glass of juice- not wine. Lena turned it in her fingers, her face a mask of worry. Beside her sat the potstickers in a big bowl, kept warm by a damp towel. Another look revealed a pregnancy test hidden in Lena’s shirt pocket.
Kara reached up to slip on her glasses and dissolve the suit, the stopped.
Instead, she took it off, slipping out of the suit before changing into a threadbare sweater and some joggers. Later, she would fold it, put it in a box, put it away.
Right now she slipped into the kitchen, padding silently behind Lena on bare feet, savoring the quick flutter of Lena’s heart when Kara embraced her from behind. Kara made sure to press a kiss to her cheek before deftly sliding the test from Lena’s pocket.
“You used your super senses, didn’t you?” said Lena. “That’s not fair.”
“You know what’s not fair?” said Kara. “Being the most beautiful woman in the world, and in my house no less. The audacity.”
Lena gave her a crooked smile. “Technically, this is my house.”
Kara placed a hand on Lena’s belly and spread her fingers in an wide, protective grip.
“Our house,” she whispered.
The potstickers, unfortunately, went cold.
Seeing their partner make them a meal.

Becoming Friends

Goku
After the Tenkaichi Budokai, you did end up giving Goku a call. It was about two weeks after the tournament when you met him out in the mountains. You silently prayed that he didn’t lure you out there just to murder you. Something about him gave you the feeling that not only was he not that smart, but he wouldn’t have any malicious intention. Because of that, you were at his place right on time.
You were one of the few Earthlings who could fly on their own. It was a technique you had learned from your master who had learned it somewhere else. Thanks to this ability, you traveled to the mountains with ease.
As soon as you knocked on the door of the small house, Goku opened it.
“Hey, (Y/n)! Wow you sure know how to get places on time.”
“Thanks. Training gets me so pumped.”
“I’m just finishing up breakfast. I’ll be quick though.”
When Goku said breakfast you expected like some eggs or something. His entire dining table was covered in empty bowls stacked up. Only a few still had food in them. He ate a ton! This was just breakfast!
“Sorry about the mess, I eat a lot.” Goku grinned sheepishly.
“It’s alright. Whatever you gotta do, man.” You shrugged it off.
Goku finished eating in a matter of minutes. He offered you some food, but you didn’t wanna barf while you trained.
There was a clearing not too far from Goku’s house. That was where you trained until lunch. Goku taught you how to focus your energy to shoot beams and told you about some weighted training he did. You would be trying that at home under your master’s supervision.
For lunch, you helped Goku prepare a meal of gargantuan proportions. It all smelled so good, so you weren’t complaining. All that training had worked up quite the appetite for you.
“Where’d you learn to cook like this? It looks and smells amazing.” You asked while chopping vegetables.
“When my ex-wife and I got divorced, I had to learn how to cook for myself so that I wouldn’t starve. Some friends gave me some cookbooks to study and I’ve been doing fine since.” Goku explained with a smile.
“Oh, I’m sorry to have brought up your divorce.” You frowned, feeling like an inconsiderate idiot.
“It’s okay. We weren’t really that happy together anyways. I was always away training, which was hard on her. We butted heads when it came to our sons’ schooling and whatnot.” Goku explained somewhat sadly. He perked back up again. “It was probably for the best. Now our sons don’t see us fighting all the time.”
“How old are your sons?” You questioned, trying to shift the topic.
“21 and 11. Gohan is the older one, and Goten is younger. My ex still has custody over Goten, so I only get to see him on the weekends.”
“How is Goten about all of this? Eleven is sort of a delicate age.”
“He seems to be alright. He’s just glad he gets to see me. Gohan is more affected I think. He doesn’t talk about it, but I can tell he’s sad that his mom and I weren’t happy together.”
“Geez, I need to stop asking questions. I’m over here bringing up deep stuff and we just met.” You chided yourself out loud.
“You’re fine. I love my sons, they’re a huge part of my life. They were bound to come up sooner or later.”
Vegeta
For some odd reason, everytime you left Capsule Corp, you ran into Vegeta. You couldn’t avoid him. No matter what you did, you ended up meeting him at the door. It would be more annoying if Trunks’s attitude wasn’t starting to turn around.
He had begrudgingly begun to cooperate during class. You didn’t know how long this streak would last, so you took advantage of it. You gave him positive reinforcement at every opportunity to encourage his new behavior. When you gave him a test, he passed with flying colors. It was a miracle!
You knew you kind of owed Vegeta some kind of thanks for talking to his son, but you were still upset about how rude he was to you. Your pride made it hard to do these things in the first place.
Swallowing your instinct to just glare at Vegeta as you walked by him, you prepared to say what you had mentally rehearsed for the entire walk to the door.
“Hey, Vegeta. I just wanted to say thanks for talking to Trunks. His grades have gotten so much better and he’s realizing how intelligent he really is. I think this has been a big confidence booster for him, and you’re one to thank for it.”
“Whatever. His mother told me to yell at him about his grades anyways.” And Vegeta ruined the moment.
“Your son’s education is important to me. Not just because I get paid for it, but because I genuinely enjoy what I do.” You stated with confidence. You were about to walk out the door when Vegeta grabbed you by the arm.
“You should tell me more about his progress next week. I didn’t raise my son to be a simpleton.”
With that, he released you. The cab ride home was full of thoughts for you. You and Vegeta were finally on good terms.
Son Gohan
Sitting next to Gohan was actually better than you thought it’d be. He was so funny and socially clueless. You could mess with him a bit.
At first he had things to say about you sleeping in class, but you assured him that it was fine. He saw your grades to prove it and has left it alone since. It was cute though because he mentioned it out of concern.
Gohan was so sweet compared to most other teenage boys. He didn’t bask in the attention from the other girls. He just nervously responded to them and exited the conversation as politely as possible. Gohan was a people pleaser, these things made him awkward. The fact that he was home schooled for most of his life only made it worse. He did not know how high school worked.
That was okay though. He had you to show him the ropes and guide him. You warned him about which people to avoid and not engage with. Teenagers could be nasty. In more than one way.
You took on the role of Gohan’s protector. People already didn’t like you, so you had nothing to lose. You tended to keep to yourself and stay out of drama. People held that and the fact that you were blunt, especially to those who interrupted your naps, against you.
Gohan just barely picked up on the fact that people didn’t like you. Some red headed girl that you couldn’t remember the name of had blackmailed him into going out with her. When he told you about it, he mentioned that she was confused as to why he chose to be friends with such a lazy bitch. You didn’t explain it much, but he got the idea.
While you weren’t one to stay awake in class, you were a studyer. Gohan came to your house after school almost every day to study for a bit before he had to go home. You offered to alternate which house you studied at, but he refused saying his mom would flip out if he brought a girl home.
“She would ask you if you’re pregnant. No joke.” Gohan told you with a horrified expression.
“You? Get a girl pregnant? That’s like impossible. You’re the biggest virgin I know.” You giggled.
“Hey! I could.” Gohan had learned enough from you to know that you were teasing him.
“Do you even know how sex works?” You raised your eyebrows, still laughing.
“Of course I do! The guy inserts his penis in the girl’s vagina and then they go at it until he ejaculates.” Gohan explained so matter of factly that you were on the floor laughing. “What’s so funny?”
“You know so little. I have much to teach you, my child.” You patted his head.
“I don’t think I wanna know anything you have to teach me about sex.”
“It’ll be fun.”
Future Trunks
After you met Bulma, she convinced you to stay a while. The worn down Capsule Corp building provided a room for you where the androids would not hear you scream. You figured it wouldn’t hurt to stick around and contribute to Bulma’s efforts.
This included scavenging for materials with Trunks. You would go out and dig through rubble until you could find things that were still usable. It was hard work, but you enjoyed chatting with Trunks for hours every day.
At first he was shy and awkward. Bulma told you he hadn’t really met girls his age. You had to initiate your first conversations and keep them going which was hard. You weren’t used to interacting with people, so you were just as awkward. He did warm up to you though.
“Look at this, Trunks. Isn’t it cool?” You held up an unknown object. There were a lot of things that were probably everyday items back before the androids that you couldn’t name.
“Oh wow. That’s a music player!” He reached out for the small rectangular electronic device. He inspected the small screen and large circle with buttons around it, indicating their uses. “I might have a charger for this lying around the lab.”
“Let’s see if we can get it to work!”
In the evening, you headed back to Capsule Corp under the cover of the shadows of dilapidated buildings. The two of you put the salvaged parts in the lab before digging through some junk in Trunks’s corner.
Like his mom, he was gifted with technology and liked to tinker with appliances. When he scavenged he took things for himself that he found interesting. Only he could navigate his collection, carefully sifting through boxes.
“Found it!” Trunks turned around, charger in hand.
He plugged it into the wall before connecting it to the music player. An icon appeared on the tiny screen. Success.
“I wonder what songs are on it”
“Probably old stuff that we wouldn’t recognize. My mom might though.”
“Damn, calling your mom old like that.” You teased. He immediately turned red and looked away.
“I didn’t mean it like that..”
“I’m just giving you a hard time, Trunks.”
He went back to figuring out the device with his ears still tinted red. He gasped when he pressed a button and sound came out.
You swayed to the music, you’d never heard anything so beautiful for such a long time.
“I think you’re supposed to dance a certain way. My mom used to do it with me when I was younger.” Trunks stuttered through that a bit.
“By all means, teach me.”
“My hands go here.” He placed his hands on the sides of your waist. “And your arms go around my neck.”
You tentatively brought your hands up to meet at the back of his neck. “Like this?”
“Yeah.” Trunks began to sway, leading you through the song.
I hear the crystal raindrops fall, on the window down the hall, and it becomes the morning dew~
And darling when the morning comes, and I see the morning sun, I wanna be the one with you~
Broly
A few days in, things were going well on Vampa. Broly was gentle and considerate seeing as you were a human and happened to be much more fragile than him. He took you out to explore the planet, carrying you as he flew through the air.
His grip was light on your body, fingers nearly hovering around your shoulders and under your thighs.
“My father used to train me here. He had to cut off my tail because I couldn’t control myself as a great ape.” His deep voice was so soft.
“And to my knowledge, that is a transformation brought about by seeing the full moon? Vegeta tells me that he could control it, but Goku and Gohan never learned how to.”
Broly only hummed in response as he kept flying. The wind whipped at your hair and his, the strands loosely tangling. You could tell that Broly was focusing from the way his brows slightly furrowed, his nearly unblinking stare, and his slightly scrunched up nose. It was cute.
“This is where Ba lives.”
“Goku told me about him. Your father wounded him because he was your friend? An awful thing to do to an animal.” You glanced at his face to study his reaction.
Broly’s lips pursed into a frown and his eyes clouded with what you guessed was guilt and sadness.
“Yes. He didn’t like me playing with Ba.”
“It wasn’t your fault, Broly. You didn’t know better, and your father is the one who hurt him.” You placed a hand on his muscular shoulder, looking at him in his big dark eyes. “Beating yourself up about it won’t change what happened. You can move forward though.”
“How do I move forward from losing the first friend I ever had?” Broly averted his eyes.
“Accept what has happened. Your father hurt Ba.”
“Yes.”
“And it was not your fault.”
“Okay…”
“Now, we can try to befriend Ba again or leave him in peace if you think that’s best.”
“I…think I can try again.” The saiyan’s voice wavered for a moment.
“Take as much time as you need. I’ll be right here for you.”
