strangrr things five could go one of two ways.
and i will make the same post either way, with one key difference.
SCENARIO ONE:
This is the character with the best writing, design, acting, and plot. Fight me.
SCENARIO TWO:
This is the most poorly designed character, and no ending will make less sense ever.

Okay maybe Lily did some random unintended magic when she died to protect Harry....OR maybe she'd been researching blood magic and protective magic for months in secret so she already knew what she needed to do. Maybe it was on purpose and she'd been preparing for it since Harry was born.
She had books stacked up in the study that she constantly went over to perfect the encantation so if he ever showed up, she was already prepared to give him exactly what he deserved for daring to threaten her family for his own personal power. James never knew because she didn't want to worry him or cause him to try and protect her from her own decision. She didn't even tell Remus or Mary in her letters. It was her secret backup plan.
It wasn't an instinctive bout of accidental magic. It had been carefully crafted and perfected just for this moment. That's why she didn't run when she was told to, she knew that there was no point in trying to escape anymore because it was too late and her last chance was to put her knew knowledge to good use.
She was going to curse this shell of a man with constant weakness for eternity if it was the last thing she did. And it was. She was as vengeful as she was kind, even if people never noticed it until it was too late. And we love her for that.

Orpheus: Flirting with you is like punching water.
Eurydice: Why? Cause it’s pointless, or because you look stupid doing it?
Orpheus: Did you hear it?
Eurydice: I heard it that time, yeah.

James walks away, leaving pieces of his broken heart as he does.
He walks, each step heavier than the previous one, like he was chained with metals Hephaestus himself created. And the thing is, he didn't want to be freed.
He walks away from the gravitational pull of Regulus' presence. Even if all his thoughts are screaming at him to go back , go back, go back.
He didn't.
So he walks.
He wants to look back. To see, if Regulus too, was affected by him walking away. He didn't.
Because James wasn't Orpheus after all. He may have gone to the depths of hell, trying everything to get the love of his life out of it. He may have suffered every millisecond after he found out what happened to Regulus. Still, he was no Orpheus.
So he didn't look back. But he knows, even after not looking back, he still lost his Eurydice.
Maybe it was like that all along. There was no chance for Orpheus to get his Eurydice back. The test was just a trick. By Hades, by Persephone, by the fates. He was always meant to lose Eurydice.
Losing her by looking back. Losing him by not looking at all.
What's the difference? Nothing.
Because in the end, the only conclusion of their myth will forever end in one word,
tragic.
At least Orpheus' Eurydice wanted to leave hell.
James doesn't know If Regulus could say the same.
