My guyyyyys!!! My little kitties!!! I used a vaguely pixelated brush for this, since the site uses pixel art, and it was really, really fun to use for some reason?? Gotta do that again. And grabbing the colors for this took some thinking, with the way the Not-Cat icons work, but I managed it! These guys are in the order their turns go in combat, so from left to right, we've got Adeen (Medic), Schilly (Fighter), Crystal (Bard), and Liphanes (Guardian). They are such little creatures!!! I need to draw them more!!!

Hi and welcome to another episode of Nerd Knowlege with Kari!
In this episode we'll be talking about the Boeing 737 MAX 8, the MCAS system and why said system was even installed, why it failed.
Tumblr media
(this ist the actual Cockpit of a 737 max 8)
One lovely day someone at Boeing woke up, saw that Airbus (the Europen counterpart) had decided to renew its engines, and went: "Oh shit we have to do that too". And they did, just not well.
The Boeing 737 Max 8 failed 33 out of 89 tests, which is a lot.
With a too-high AoA (angle of attack) at take-off caused by the weight of the new engines, they could lead to possible danger.
So Boeing decided that a system that corrects the aeroplanes nose if needed. And so the MCAS ( or Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation system [say that 5 times in a row I dare you]).
One would argue that pilots would need proper training for a new system, but not Boeing. Why?
Because it's cheaper to give pilots a one to two-hour iPad course. And I'm not even joking, that is literally the training they got.
Now what made it fail?
The MCAS system relied on one single sensor, and that sensor gave wrong AoA data, causing the system to automatically push the nose downwards.
The pilots could push up the nose as much as they wanted, the system would always push it back down. The pilots did not know how to fix this problem which then led to two horrible crashes.
I would like to add that having the finance guys take over the company was a bad decision.
I hope you're doing good!
Logging off,
Kari

Duhai diri
Dia separuh jiwamu. Dia terpilih ada di sisimu.
Dia banyak luka, kamu menyembuhkan.
Dia emosi, kamu mengendalikan.
Dia pun, tak meminta dirinya diwariskan sifat tempramen itu.
Hanya saja, diri ini, kamu, mampu?
Maafkan. Pikirannya terlampau jauh hingga halu.
Sekali lagi. Maafkan, jangan trauma diriku. Kuat kuat diriku.
Sabar diriku.
Menghadapi dia, Suamiku.

USAF Secretary Eyes Early Start For Future Tanker Program
Rendering of a conceptual future refueling tanker
Lockheed Martin Skunk Works rendering of a conceptual future refueling tanker.
DAYTON, OHIO—The U.S. Air Force hopes to speed up its next-generation tanker program with potential new-start authority in its fiscal 2026 budget, or even an earlier start under newly provided authorities from Congress, the service’s leader says.
The Air Force expects by October to have completed an analysis of alternatives (AOA) for the Next Generation Aerial Refueling System (NGAS), a new, clean-sheet design tanker designed to be more survivable than previous refuelers. Service Secretary Frank Kendall, in a July 30 speech at the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center’s Industry Days, said the AOA staff is looking at how a refueler can meet its mission in an environment where adversaries have longer range weapons.
The AOA will wrap in time for the service to make a decision for its fiscal 2026 budget, Kendall predicted. However, the Air Force could use its so-called “Quick Start” authority approved in the fiscal 2024 defense policy bill to begin work early on the program.
Under the authority, the Air Force can begin early design work through the preliminary design review, ahead of full authorization and appropriations if the defense secretary deems it important for national security.
The Air Force used its first round of Quick Start authority on efforts for space-based moving target indication. Each of the services has a share of $100 million it can allocate to the new acquisition programs.
Funding has been a question surrounding NGAS since the program was announced, with so many competing programs in the service’s budget. For example, Lt. Gen. Richard Moore, the deputy chief of staff for plans and programs, said in an April conference the service has not decided on a financing plan, which likely would require money from outside the service’s budget.
So far, the Air Force has only committed $8 million to NGAS for the AOA work. Kevin Stamey, the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center’s program executive officer for mobility and training aircraft, told reporters July 30 he has not been tasked with exploring Quick Start authorities for NGAS. Kendall has told the directorate NGAS is a priority to be accelerated, and the authority could be an option.
The Air Force needs to make “corporate decisions” on where to go with both NGAS and the nearer term replacement plan for its Boeing KC-135s. The service had outlined what it called the KC-135 Recapitalization Program for use in buying new tankers after the final procurement of KC-46 in 2029. However, the service has not committed to it yet. Kendall said earlier this month that there has not been a final decision.

A Memphis woman banned from every Walmart in the U.S. was arrested earlier this week after she allegedly used a self-checkout scam to shoplift packs of ramen noodles and other items from one of the retailer's stores, according to police.
A Memphis police officer wrote in an affidavit, which was obtained by USA TODAY, that the 37-year-old woman was charged with criminal trespass and theft of merchandise of less than $1,000. The woman, who the officer said is a "known shoplifter," was arrested at a South Memphis Walmart location on Feb. 10 around 3:44 p.m., according to the court document.
The woman is on the Authorization of Agency (AoA) list, and therefore is "not to be at any Walmart location in the United States due to prior shoplifting encounters," according to the affidavit. An AoA list for trespass is a legal document where a property owner formally authorizes law enforcement agencies to take action against individuals found trespassing on their property, including arresting them.
“We value our customers and associates and want them to have a pleasant shopping experience. Though rare, there are instances when someone is no longer welcome in our stores,” Walmart said in a statement obtained by WREG.
A company spokesperson said they are working on providing a statement when contacted by USA TODAY on Thursday.
What was the woman accused of doing at the Walmart?
A witness in the Walmart told the police officer she saw two women "stealing from the store," the affidavit reads.
The woman banned from the store was caught on a Walmart camera using an old watch barcode battery to scan all her items for $1 while using the self-checkout machine, the police officer wrote in the affidavit. During the fraudulent transaction, the woman stole 11 packs of ramen noodles, a pair of women's boots, blue jeans and a T-shirt for a total of $137.34, the affidavit reads.
The other woman who allegedly participated in the scam stole a backpack, two bras, a lash kit and an automotive accessory that all together cost $57.86, according to the affidavit. She received a misdemeanor citation for theft of property, the court document continued.
Court documents: Not her first time shoplifting
According to Shelby County court records, the banned woman was found guilty of shoplifting at a Circle K store in Memphis on April 22, 2024. The convenience store's clerk told police that the woman stole $33 worth of items, including four sandwiches, two slushies, one bag of chips and a can of cheese dip, an affidavit filed on May 9, 2024, says.
The store clerk identified the woman out of a six-person photographic lineup, and she was subsequently charged with theft of merchandise less than $1,000, according to the affidavit.
Other Shelby County court records accessed by USA TODAY show the woman was also found guilty of stealing $502 worth of items from a Nordstrom Rack in February 2023; $381.25 worth of items from a Dicks Sporting Goods in November 2021; $281.12 worth of items from a Walmart in December 2019; and $32.64 worth of items from a CVS in November 2019. ___________
