Honestly, if any character deserves to die not in another parallel universe, possibly in the 50s, and never came back to life. Everyone forgot about him including the bear would be Archie.
The writers get their heroic ending. The hero, in their eyes, is dead. The other characters rejoice because he is the worst, and they must keep making him feel good afraid to bruise his ego. Now they can drop the act breathe, and get back to normal, for Archiekins is dead.
The girls are happy because whatever potion he bought from Cheryl to be the Stepford wives around him is broken, but Cheryl will say it was her Momsy.
Uncle Frank, god, he can die too. I don't count him as a main, though. If anything, it will be Midge dying in childbirth from having Fangs baby, so Toni and Fangs decide to raise it.
I'd say let it be Alice and Archie, either one, but knowing these writers, we can't bet on that.
I'd say Jughead he'd always sacrifice himself for his friends, but you know what? He deserves to live to thrive, and he's done it enough, but if he needs to, he will, and he'll be okay with never coming back, no matter the time frame. However, if he finally finds love and it works, and they kill him or his lover, that's just cruel. Would the writers do this to Jughead? Absolutely.

fascinated that in toeing the line of "the doctor both is and is not asexual, and because the show is ostensibly sexier now there should be imagery of especially david tennant and various women (shockingly no men with ten) smooshing lips," it means that the doctor only ever instigates a kiss when it's got some scifi-type reason behind it, even starting with nine removing the time vortex from rose.
so only counting lip-to-lip contact for a second here*:
jack kisses the doctor (the parting of the ways)
nine removes the time vortex from rose (the parting of the ways)
cassandra kisses the doctor (new earth)
madame de pompadour kisses the doctor (the girl in the fireplace)
jackie kisses the doctor (army of ghosts)
the doctor leaves a DNA print on martha (smith and jones)
martha gives the doctor cpr (smith and jones)
john smith kisses joan (human nature)
astrid kisses the doctor (voyage of the damned)
the doctor kisses astrid goodbye as she dies (voyage of the damned -- only instigation on the doctor's part of any kiss)**
donna shocks the doctor out of being poisoned (unicorn and the wasp)
christina de souza kisses the doctor in planet of the dead and is overall very flirtatious at him in a way that almost feels like idk. an anti-romance plot. it's like everything that came before (and tbh... also amy and river song) in terms of "sexy" doctor-and-companion tension is lampshaded and made a bit silly. I don't know if this is just because the actress and dtennant have minus chemistry, but it's very funny that this is the final flirting + kiss and it's so very... "shrug, you're not going to be my companion, okay, goodbye"
*I think the only time the doctor even jokingly talks about kissing is in dalek's of manhatten, when martha and bby andrew garfield/frank have been captured and the doctor arrives. martha expresses her relief, and the doctor says something along the lines of: "well, you can kiss me later. you too frank, if you want." this is to diffuse a very scary/tense situation
**I tend to read the astrid final kiss as a kindness/comfort rather than romantic interest or sexual interest. because she is dying. and she kissed the doctor earlier, and is very scared
but wait! tentoo and rose were really going at it, you say! tentoo is part human/specifically human in a donna sense. tentoo is also super up for settling down and having a monogamous relationship, which isn't exactly the doctor's style in any regeneration. so yeah.. tentoo is another part of the tightrope, just like john smith. change the doctor into someone who is almost-but-not-quite the same, enough plausible deniability and voila, it's almost like the doctor is kissing someone, but crucially, the doctor still Is Not. in tentoo's case, the doctor is in fact watching it happen with a somewhat despondent look, before turning and leaving without waiting for rose to say goodbye. because, youknow. canonically the doctor cannot give rose what she wants (because he's not alloromantic/allosexual because he's an immortal alien) so it's better just to leave
lastly flirting: the doctor does flirt, but not often. the most flirtatious the doctor gets outside of above kissing line is when jack briefly joins nine and rose, and I'd call that the jack-contagion (affectionately, it's a good thing). ten, actually, flirts... less. comparably. (and hilariously is annoyed that jack flirts so much around him) a bit with rose in christmas invasion and new earth, but apart from the "sexy" wink, not very overtly. I mean, maybe I'm very ace, but I think they do banter rather than flirting. the one time the doctor interprets something as flirting that funnily enough isn't is when rose is talking to a cat. the doctor similarly gets flirted at (madame de pompadour, shakespeare code, martha several times, health and safety, silence of the library) but doesn't tend to enjoy it or often even notice it

Favourite Non-Fiction / Bio Graphic Novels of 2022
When I Grow Up: The Lost Autobiographies of Six Yiddish Teenagers by Ken Krimstein
When I Grow Up is New Yorker cartoonist Ken Krimstein’s new graphic nonfiction book, based on six of hundreds of newly discovered, never-before-published autobiographies of Eastern European Jewish teens on the brink of WWII—found in 2017 hidden in a Lithuanian church cellar. These autobiographies, long thought destroyed by the Nazis, were written as entries for three competitions held in Eastern Europe in the 1930s, just before the horror of the Holocaust forever altered the lives of the young people who wrote them. In When I Grow Up, Krimstein shows us the stories of these six young men and women in riveting, almost cinematic narratives, full of humor, yearning, ambition, and all the angst of the teenage years. It’s as if half a dozen new Anne Frank stories have suddenly come to light, framed by the dramatic story of the documents’ rediscovery. Beautifully illustrated, heart-wrenching, and bursting with life, When I Grow Up reveals how the tragedy that is about to befall these young people could easily happen again, to any of us, if we don’t learn to listen to the voices from the past.
Finding Joy by Gary Andrews
When his wife, Joy, died very suddenly, a daily drawing became the way Gary Andrews dealt with his grief. From learning how to juggle his kids' playdates and single-handedly organising Christmas, to getting used to the empty side of the bed, Gary's honest and often hilarious illustrations have touched the hearts of thousands on social media. Finding Joy is the story of how one family learned to live again after tragedy.
Flung Out of Space by Grace Ellis & Hannah Templer
A fictional and complex portrait of bestselling author Patricia Highsmith caught up in the longing that would inspire her queer classic,  The Price of Salt Flung Out of Space is both a love letter to the essential lesbian novel, The Price of Salt, and an examination of its notorious author, Patricia Highsmith. Veteran comics creators Grace Ellis and Hannah Templer have teamed up to tell this story through Highsmith’s eyes—reimagining the events that inspired her to write the story that would become a foundational piece of queer literature. Flung Out of Space opens with Pat begrudgingly writing low-brow comics. A drinker, a smoker, and a hater of life, Pat knows she can do better. Her brain churns with images of the great novel she could and should be writing—what will eventually be Strangers on a Train— which would later be adapted into a classic film by Alfred Hitchcock in 1951.   At the same time, Pat, a lesbian consumed with self-loathing, is in and out of conversion therapy, leaving a trail of sexual conquests and broken hearts in her wake. However, one of those very affairs and a chance encounter in a department store give Pat the idea for her soon-to-be beloved tale of homosexual love that was the first of its kind—it gave the lesbian protagonists a happy ending.   This is not just the story behind a classic queer book, but of a queer artist who was deeply flawed. It’s a comic about what it was like to write comics in the 1950s, but also about what it means to be a writer at any time in history, struggling to find your voice.     Author Grace Ellis contextualizes Patricia Highsmith as both an unintentional queer icon and a figure whose problematic views and noted anti-Semitism have cemented her controversial legacy. Highsmith’s life imitated her art with results as devastating as the plot twists that brought her fame and fortune.
My Brain is Different: Stories of ADHD and Other Developmental Disorders by MONNZUSU
In this manga essay anthology, follow the true stories of nine people (including the illustrator) navigating life with developmental disorders and disabilities. This intimate manga anthology is about the struggles and successes of individuals learning to navigate daily life with a developmental disorder. The comics follow the stories of nine people, including: a junior high dropout finding an alternate path to education; a former "troublesome" child helping kids at a support school; a so-called problem child realizing the beauty of his own unique quirks; and a man falling in love with the world with the help of a new medication. This book illustrates the anxieties and triumphs of people living in a world not quite built with them in mind.
Ten Days in a Mad-House by Brad Ricca, Courtney Sieh, Nellie Bly
Beautifully adapted and rendered through piercing illustrations by acclaimed creators Brad Ricca and Courtney Sieh, Nellie Bly’s complete, true-to-life 19th-century investigation of Blackwell Asylum captures a groundbreaking moment in history and reveals a haunting and timely glimpse at the starting point for conversations on mental health. “I said I could and I would. And I did.” While working for Joseph Pulitzer’s newspaper in 1887, Nellie Bly began an undercover investigation into the local Women’s Lunatic Asylum on Blackwell Island. Intent on seeing what life was like on the inside, Bly fooled trained physicians into thinking she was insane—a task too easily achieved—and had herself committed. In her ten days at the asylum, Bly witnessed horrifying conditions: the food was inedible, the women were forced into labor for the staff, the nurses and doctors were cruel or indifferent, and many of the women held there had no mental disorder of any kind. Now adapted into graphic novel form by Brad Ricca and vividly rendered with beautiful and haunting illustrations by Courtney Sieh, Bly’s bold venture is given new life and meaning. Her fearless investigation into the living conditions at the Blackwell Asylum forever changed the field of journalism. A timely reminder to take notice of forgotten populations, Ten Days in a Mad-House warns us what happens when we look away.
So Much for Love: How I Survived a Toxic Relationship by Sophie Lambda
Part memoir, part self-help book, So Much Bad For Love guides readers with honesty and humor through how to spot, cope with, and ultimately survive a romantic relationship with a malignant narcissist. Sophie had always been cynical about love—until she meets Marcus. His affection and doting praise melt away her defenses. The beginning of their relationship was a whirlwind romance, but over time she finds herself on uneven footing. Marcus lies. He's violently angry and bewilderingly inconsistent. Yet somehow he always manages to explain away his behavior and to convince Sophie that it's all in her head. Sophie comes to realize that she's become trapped in a cycle of abuse with someone with narcissistic personality disorder. Once she gets out of the relationship, Sophie documents the experience in this bracing, hilarious, and empathetic graphic novel that's full of advice to readers who may be in similar straits.

Doctor Who, but Chronologically 31
Fun fact! The timelines have intersected, almost - if we were watching this show in the normal order, this episode is actually only one out from where we would be. It's 1930! And we all know what that means - it's time for some terrible stereotypical New York accents as we watch Daleks in Manhattan.
Martha's back! Very exciting, Martha put herself into God Tier in the companion rankings with her last episode, and frankly she is very solid in this one as well. She and Tennant arrive in New York, discover it's 1930, and immediately launch themselves into the mystery of working class people going missing during the Great Depression as they live in a Central Park slum in sight of the Empire State Building being built, a tale that is so richly anti-capitalist the only thing they don't do is turn to the camera to break the fourth wall and say "The real monster here, children, is capitalism."
(Also, side note, if you watch in this order, you do feel the devastation of the First World War).
Plot-wise, this is a two-parter! Our second one that is actually intentional. In fact, the plot is fairly basic and simple, meaning the emotional stories and anti-capitalist morals can take centre stage, which is nice - homeless people are vanishing from the slum. They are being turned into pig slaves, by which I mean, humans in fetching brown boiler suits with pig heads who squeal a lot. This is being done by a sort of wannabe mobster who wears stylish spats in the Empire State Building, who insists his workers risk their lives to attach Dalek bumps to the top - because, as the title made clear and the episode wisely chose not to hide from us, the real bosses behind it all are Jeff Bezos inhuman monstrous perversions with no morals or emotions other than hate or racial purity aka Daleks.
Which is exciting! Because you see, while we have SEEN Daleks before, next to the big cube in the second episode, and we got that brief cameo from Rusty... this is actually the first time we get to meet them properly! First Dalek episode, to show us why they're scary!
Except it turns out there are only four of them and they're a cult.
Also the Doctor is proper freaked out by them. We get SO MANY PLOT THREADS HERE
"How are they still alive?" he asks the showgirl who has followed him into a sewer (she is played by Her From Spooks). "How do they always live, while I lose everything?"
Later, Martha, having been kidnapped for experimentation by Daleks and literally shaking with fear, steps up to the Daleks and stares them down.
"I demand to know what's going on," she proclaims (god she's so fucking cool.) "Report."
"Our planet and species were lost in a war," a Dalek says (HOW MANY FUCKING WARS -) "We're the Cult of Skaro. Dalek Sec is hybridising with a human so we can evolve to live outside the shell."
(The other Daleks do not approve. Racial purists. I foresee a mutiny.)
And the merge is complete! The final cliffhanger is that the wannabe mobster now has a single eye and a beard made of penises.
Far be it from me to agree with Daleks, but I also think that's a bad design, actually.
Anyway, other little stories in this episode include Rick Griffin from Holby City playing a man called Solomon, the sort of leader of the slum, who in his first scene resolves a conflict by splitting a loaf of bread in half I-see-what-they-did-there; Her From Spooks playing a showgirl whose boyfriend gets turned into an incomplete pig slave, so he just has the snout and that's it (on being reunited she is very good about it, good for her); and ACTUAL LITERAL SPIDER-MAN IS HERE. That is. Andrew Garfield. Like, THE Andrew Garfield. His name is Frank and he's from Tennessee and he is also about to be experimented on with Martha. And he's played by Andrew Garfield.
The Doctor jokes at one point that he'll let Frank kiss him if he wants, and all I can think about is Andrew "I want to play bisexual Peter Parker" Garfield's eyes lighting up at the line.
But, a nice moment for us watching: the showgirl bonds with Martha (of course) and offers to let her watch the show from the wings.
"Have you ever been on stage?" she asks
"Oh, yeah, a bit," Martha says. "Shakespeare."
WE UNDERSTAND THAT REFERENCE!!!!!
Anyway! New plot threads again!
“She” (an unknown person) is returning (perhaps River returned as Missy. Maybe Me? Maybe Clara???!)
There is something on Donna’s back
An entire planet, Pyrovilia, just… disappeared, somehow. (Maybe because the TARDIS is exploding??? Saturnine was also lost, and that WAS because of the TARDIS exploding. The lion man’s planet was also lost but he was a bit of a knob about it if I’m honest.)
Amy is maybe dead (she’s not)
The Doctor has been cubed (he’s out, but how?)
River is possibly blown up  (unless she’s Missy)
The TARDIS has blown up  (It’s fine now. Except it’s sort of melting now because it’s corrupted, but it’s fine again)
The universe appears to have ended  (the universe is back again)
The Doctor has employed(?) Nardole

Thank you @fettuccin-e @yarrystyleeza @shouldbestudying41 and @hailey-murdock for the tags!
1. Matt Murdock – Daredevil (The character that got me back into writing after a 2 year break. He’s my husband. I love him with all my heart. He owns me. I’m never leaving. Also, he made me discover Charlie.)
Tumblr media
2. Spencer Reid – Criminal Minds (Boy genius. Cinnamon role. He’s been through far too much. He’s so adorable. I want to put him in my pocket. He was the first ever character I wrote fanfic for years ago. The show also got me interested in criminal psychology.)
Tumblr media
3. Michael Kinsella – Kin (Now he is daddy. He’s my hot mafia husband who just needs a hug and someone to take care of him. Also, I hate his family. I just want to take him far away from that. I’d make a great stepmom for Anna, I think. They both deserve some peace. Kin got me hooked after I started watching it for Charlie only.)
Tumblr media
4. Eddie Munson – Stranger Things (He’s the age-appropriate choice. I’m not usually into metal heads but there’s something about him that got me hooked when I first saw him. Also had too little screen time, but I still have hope he’ll appear in Season 5)
Tumblr media
5. Frank Castle – Punisher (There is something so attractive about men covered in blood. He’s morally grey but, like, in a cool way. So what if he kills people?)
Tumblr media
6. Addison Montgomery – Grey’s Anatomy (Mommy. That’s all I’ve got to say. I love her so much. I want her to adopt me. I want to be her child.)
Tumblr media
7. Loki – Loki, Avengers, etc. (Does he count? I feel like he should count. Because I am so in love with Loki, it drives me crazy. Maybe it’s the Tom Hiddleston obsession, or maybe it’s because I like my anti-heroes with dark hair.)
Tumblr media
8. Peter Parker – The Amazing Spider-Man (I’m talking Andrew’s Spidey. He’s my favorite Spidey. Because I grew up with him, and I love Andrew. I just want to give him a hug. The thing with Gwen BROKE me, and also her back.)
Tumblr media
9. Fleabag – Fleabag (Does anyone know her real name? I don’t know, but the show was so real, and SHE was so real, I will forever love her)
Tumblr media
10. Phoebe Buffay – Friends (She’s me. I am her. Phoebe is so crazy, it’s almost endearing. The crazy part reminds me a lot of myself. I can’t help but love her)

my ranking and review of all eurovision 2023 songs
(don't expect any intellectual deep dives, i just tried articulating my feelings the best i could but it was hard bc i'm so lukewarm on so many songs. if the reviews don't make sense it's because i wrote them before i used the esc gerbear to sort the places hhh)
37. iceland: diljá - power
it definitely is a song that is competing in eurovision this year and i've listened to it. it doesn't make me feel anything so i don't know what to say. it's a fast pop song but i'm not even vibing to it :( i just don't like it
36. switzerland: remo forrer - watergun
oh switzerland, just because sad boy gjon worked in 2021 doesn't mean you need to keep sending sad boys now... a really boring attempt at an anti-war song
35. cyprus: andrew lambrou - break a broken heart
i don't think i'm really into men singing some heartbreak songs tbh i don't like those howls in the song and the rest sorta sounds imagine dragons-ish to me, the verses at least
34. greece: victor vernicos - what they say
it's cool that he's playing bass in the music video but the song isn't making me feel much. ain't gonna really talk shit about it bc the dude's just 16, i hope he has fun at eurovision
33. italy: marco mengoni - due vite
i like to think italy is my fave eurovision country and then they send a ballad….. i actually watched sanremo (tho i haven't seen any of the nights till the end bc i'm not that strong Yet) and marco wasn't my favourite at all, i was actually surprised how crazy the audience kept going whenever he was performing. of course i can see it getting some good result because it's a classic italian ballad. just not for me
32. ireland: wild youth - we are one
we've got u2 at home/the u2 at home:…. this song has the most generic love love peace peace lyrics ever and whatever unity they are singing about i don't want to be a part of it
31. poland: jann - gladiator blanka - solo
baybeh….it's kinda crazeh… allegedly it was a big radio hit before "winning" the preselections but imma be real with you, i'd never heard it before. it's a harmless pop song without any substance and if it was selected internally i'd be like meh but all the bullshit that went down at our national final makes me mad. i hope we flop hard
30. portugal: mimicat - ai coração
something about it to me feels like early 00s eurovision and i must admit, i don't really like it. though the performance in liverpool might be quite fun
29. romania: theodor andrei - d.g.t. (off and on)
the national final performance of this song is a state of mind. to be frank i feel like the esc fandom is overhating this song, it's not That bad. am i a fan of this song? no. would i like it to see it in the final with the same staging just for laughs? yes
28. israel: noa kirel - unicorn
israel i'm so sorry 0 points……. this song is a disjointed mess to my ears, i think it would've been better if they stuck to just one of the styles they used in this song. all the mentions of unicorns in this song make me cringe. not to mention the "you wanna see me dance?" bit which um, also makes me cringe. no problem with a dance break but why did she have to announce it like that out of nowhere. my favourite part of the song is probably the "u-ni-corn" chant at the very end but other than that eh. this song was written to make the staging crazy and exciting but as a song it doesn't work for me
27. azerbaijan: turalturanx - tell me more
brave of azerbaijan to send two dudes with their song that sound like it teleported itself from an early 00s shitty british movie. that rap part sounds like it's from a corporate song targeted at a young audience to idk make them stop smoking asdfadsf there's something endearing about this song tho
26. uk: mae muller - i wrote a song
i recognize that it's a step in the right direction for the uk and it's a rather fun song but tbh i just don't connect with it. i really liked sam last year and sadly in comparison mae's song seems quite weak to me. though i hope that the (de facto) host country curse doesn't work on the uk this year tho and they don't end up on the very end of the board
25. the netherlands: mia nicolai & dion cooper - burning daylight
ngl i forgot about this song after the first listen. i don't even know what to say about it really, it's just really underwhelming to me. i think i don't actively hate it but i also don't really like it
24. georgia: iru - echo
english grammar rules have left the chat. i'm baffled by the lyrics. but the song overall (along with the video) feels like something from outer space or the future. not in a crazy way tho. i think it has some potential
23. denmark: reiley - breaking my heart
bts are on hiatus so it's his time to shine. no but seriously, there's something so kpopy about this song? i defo like it more than the other "breaking heart" song this year but still. the dude gives me some uncanny valley feeling, especially considering he allegedly pretends to be 5 years younger than he actually is? i love eurovision drama
22. estonia: alika - bridges
we have very few true ballads this year but i think this one's ok!! not a ballad girl myself but i don't mind this one, i like her voice. gives me adele bond theme vibes. i've seen people say alika isn't really selling this song but i saw her national final performance and it seemed fine to me? not much you can really do when you're singing a ballad tbh
21. armenia: brunette - future lover
imma be real with you, i laughed out loud when i first listened to this song because of the lyrics. but i think the song is kinda nice anyway? not a fave but it's nice enough
20. malta: the busker - dance (our own party)
they got sax and in theory i should like it. but i'm not a fan. the whole "ooh i wanna stay at home in my sweater" shtick doesn't work for me. i can see why some people are vibing to this song but it's not doing it for me
19. sweden: loreen - tattoo
i'm a noted hater of sweden at eurovision so don't expect me to say anything nice hhhh the song is rather fine and loreen is fantastic but at the same time i feel like the entire song is just one idea repeated over and over without any sort of variation. her staging at melfest seems quite interesting but overall i don't think this has a potential to win? especially if the people watching in may remember euphoria. tattoo pales in comparison
18. san marino: piqued jacks - like an animal
hear me out………i don't hate this song. yes maybe it's cringe but somehow it keeps getting stuck in my head because it's catchy asdfasdfadsf i'm waiting for the studio version bc it's hard to properly judge it based on the shit sound mix at san marino nf
17. ukraine: tvorchi - heart of steel
was kinda surprised watching vidbir when this won! but then again ukraine keeps giving us different things constantly. i quite like this song but it's also too lowkey for me, nothing to go crazy about. still, it's a vibe
16. norway: alessandra - queen of the kings
ngl when i first heard the song i couldn't understand why people like it so much. now i enjoy it more but i wouldn't say it's a fave of mine? i can see it getting a good result though, there's something very eurovision about it
15. serbia: luke black - samo mi se spava
i feel like technically i should like this song but i….don't. i think the music itself is quite fun but…..the performance makes it seem like it was written for the netflix eurovision movie. something about this guy's voice bothers me. the nail to the coffin for me is the fact that the title of this song sounds close to "samo mi się spawa" in polish which means "it welds on its own for me" instead of "i just wanna sleep" which is what the title actually means 💀 i can't shake this association off and it doesn't help me like this song more
14. slovenia: joker out - carpe diem
at first i wasn't impressed but overall i think it's quite a fun indie/pop rock song!! and it's always nice to hear a native language instead of english
13. lithuania: monika lynkytė - stay
it's a pleasant song and the lithuanian bit is my fave part of the song. overall i don't mind it, but also i'm not crazy about it. sort of disappointed because i really loved sentimentai last year :(
12. belgium: gustaph - because of you
i haven't watched the belgian nf so i don't know what the other options were (that people are so mad about not winning) but i quite like this one!!! it's a bop, makes me wanna dance. i hope gustaph brings some voguing to liverpool
11. moldova: pasha parfeni - soarele şi luna
the only true folk influenced song we have this year, i like it!! it's a banger, it has some sort of flute going on, from what i've seen the lyrics refer to a folk legend? we love it
10. australia: voyager - promise
banger!! pleasantly surprised because i don't think i've ever really really liked any of australia's entries in the past. thought the random high note in the second verse is quite funny to me tbh asdasdfds
9. croatia: let 3 - mama ŠČ!
i think it's more of a whole package where the song doesn't really make full sense without the performance but in some strange way i enjoy the song anyway. the lyrics also are quite understandable in polish which probably also makes it easier for me (and i imagine other slavic people as well) to understand the message without feeling confused about what's going on
8. albania: albina & familja kelmendi - duje
the drama?? i love it. i saw somebody say it feels like a turkish telenovela and they've got a point. it makes me feel something (unlike some other entries) and i appreciate it. plus the instrumental absolutely fucks
7. spain: blanca paloma - eaea
when i first heard the song i didn't understand it at all. i feel like i still don't fully Get it but there's something so fascinating about it to me that i can't stop thinking about it. i'm so confused? but i think it means i enjoy it. definitely something i like more than slomo last year
6. germany: lord of the lost - blood & glitter
yell heah!! germany finally sending something worthwhile. i keep listening to this song on loop, i wanna twerk to it. love the combo of metal AND glitter <3
5. france: la zarra - évidemment
i already liked it at first listen and it keeps growing on me! not a big fan of chanson type of songs but this one is a banger + her look in the music video is gorgeous, i hope she keeps it for liverpool
4. czechia: vesna - my sister's crown
liked it before it was chosen at czechia's national final and was happy when they won but i kinda got bored of it after a month or so? i still think it's a good song (even tho i know people have some issues with it) and i love the mix of three different slavic languages. i think with the right staging they can win me back
3. latvia: sudden lights - aijā
OK OK… when i first heard it i was like ok. but then one evening i randomly found myself watching the moldovan nf and they were guests there and when they played their song in this shitty studio i was like omg it's actually really good?? obsessed with the lullaby bit at the end. i hope to god they qualify, they need to bring justice to latvia after citi zeni's nq last year
2. austria: teya & salena - who the hell is edgar?
what a surprise?? adored it at first listen. it both manages to be a bop while also trying to say something. i loved in corpore sano last year, i love who the hell is edgar this year
1. finland: käärijä - cha cha cha
what can i say......i usually don't really listen to any of the national final songs and just wait for the winner of each one but the thumbnail for cha cha cha music video on yt intrigued me so i watched it. and immediately i wanted käärijä to win eurovision weeks before he even won the finnish nf. the song is sooo addictive and his entire look/performance is hypnotizing. i know he's a favourite to win rn but if he somehow flops in may i'm gonna be really really sad. come on, it's crazy it's party. i think this finnish win would be a really fitting addition to lordi's win in 2006

following the canon timeline for the legion, frank is 19 in 1996 (year of the murder and abduction by the entity), implying he was born in 1977. he was 6 years old when he was taken from his home in calgary (alberta’s largest city, the third largest city in canada) and tossed around foster homes across alberta. implying he was separated from his parents in 1983; this would have occurred during one of the worst recessions in global history; wages for low-wage workers rapidly declined, and the world price of oil collapsed. alberta’s economy plunged into a deep recession. oil companies, which were in massive debt due to years of exploration with no profit, filed for bankruptcy and curtailed, or abandoned operations in alberta altogether. by 1992, 25% of calgary’s population were living under the standard poverty line.
frank grew up in a densely populated, expensive city. when the recession reached calgary, his parents could not afford their apartment and were driven into houselesness, living out of their car. social services processed frank and separated him from his biological family. for days. then the days bled into weeks. into months. into years. his foster parents received fat checks to keep frank fed and sheltered. nothing else. in 1984, his parents froze to death in their minivan when the heater stopped working.  the local government took his survivor benefits and stored it in state coffers. frank never saw or spent it.
for the first five years, he screamed and cried and fought and repeatedly tried to run away. raging against the unfairness. spent two birthdays in a juvenile detention center for physically attacking a foster parent.
74% of all children in alberta’s foster care system are indigenous. first nation children make up 82% of canada’s permanent wards. the older wards used to call it the new residential schools. frank was a foster brother to many aboriginal foster kids, and he was often mistaken as one of them because of his features. when he was 15, frank attempted to contact his hualapai relatives in arizona; an effort to finally escape the cycle of foster homes. but frank’s efforts to reconnect with his estranged family were ultimately in vain. the legalities of immigration and blood quantum did not favor frank’s unique circumstances.
frank learned that no one was coming to save him. by design. so, fuck it. fuck them. and all the stupid fucking rules that stopped him from getting what he wanted.
frank’s trauma within the foster care system cultivated his overt/antagonistic narcissism and antisocial or “anti-society” personality. arrogance and aggression became a protective shield that cushioned the worst of his experiences, becoming vital to his survival and inseparable from his core self. with authority (police, foster parents, social workers, bullies), frank learned to watch for certain body languages, vocal tones. tells. their habits. their interests. their insecurities. he learned to use his intense observation skills to lie, manipulate, cheat, etc.. people were objects or assets, forgettable faces he would never see again as he constantly moved around foster homes.
for every town or city he was bussed to, frank would get a tattoo. to keep him focused. to remember. as a rule, his rule, frank only sticks around until the skin cools and the ink dries.
ormond, and the legion, became the only exception.
frank lived in ormond for three years, which implies he was 16 years old when he moved into the trailer park with clive andrews. in those three years, frank nurtured his obsession with julie, joey, and susie.
frank views the other members of the legion as tools. weapons. his favorite weapons. extensions of himself, like body parts. and, like his body, he protects them. appealing to their interests. infiltrating their darkest secrets, their insecurities. enabling their worst instincts. julie’s boredom. joey’s rejection sensitivity. susie’s loneliness. and frank’s anger, bleeding into them like a virus.
when the entity takes its killers, it makes an offer. if the offer is refused, the entity takes them anyway, and forces them to become its killers through supernatural torture. frank was offered an eternity with the only people he has ever cared about. no rules. no turbulent future. no way to separate them. together, forever.
he did not reject the offer.

Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly in High Noon (Fred Zinnemann, 1952) Cast: Gary Cooper, Grace Kelly, Lloyd Bridges, Katy Jurado, Thomas Mitchell, Otto Kruger, Lon Chaney Jr., Harry Morgan, Ian MacDonald, Lee Van Cleef, Eve McVeagh, Morgan Farley, Robert J. Wilkie, Sheb Wooley. Screenplay: Carl Foreman, based on a story by John W. Cunningham. Cinematography: Floyd Crosby. Production design: Rudolph Sternad. Film editing: Elmo Williams, Harry Gerstad. Music: Dimitri Tiomkin. High Noon, as has often been noted, is a movie of almost classical simplicity, adhering to the unities of place (the town of Hadleyville) and time (virtually, with perhaps only a little fudging, the runtime of the film). There are no flashbacks -- the only expository moment involves a shot of an empty chair -- and no preliminaries or codas: It begins with the wedding of Will Kane and Amy Fowler, and ends with a shot of them riding out of town. It's what makes the movie enduringly satisfying, but also what once seemed to make people want to superadd a layer of significance by interpreting it as a parable about blacklisting. That would have been inevitable anyway, since screenwriter Carl Foreman had been called before the House Un-American Activities Committee and left the country before the film was released. But it strains the tight confines of the film's narrative. Not surprisingly, High Noon took some hits from critics on the right like John Wayne, but it was also stigmatized for a long time as "pretentious." Andrew Sarris called it an "anti-populist anti-Western," but that, too, seems to me to burden the film with too much message. (Anyway, aren't Westerns, with their emphasis on wandering loners, essentially "anti-populist"?) Sixty-five years later, it's possible to view High Noon as nothing more than a neat and tidy narrative about simple heroism, which is not at all "anti-Western," a phrase that suggests far more psychological complexity than the movie possesses. Will Kane is still the good guy and Frank Miller and his gang are black-hearted baddies. If you want moral complexity, go watch The Searchers (John Ford, 1956) or The Wild Bunch (Sam Peckinpah, 1969). It's true that High Noon was overpraised at the time, winning four Oscars -- for Cooper, film editors Elmo Williams and Harry Gerstad, composer Dimitri Tiomkin for the score and, with lyricist Ned Washington, the song "High Noon (Do Not Forsake Me, Oh My Darlin')" -- and nominations for best picture, director, and screenplay. But that the Academy should even have acknowledged the virtues of a Western, a genre it typically looked down upon, is significant -- even though it reverted to its usual indifference to the genre a few years later, when it entirely ignored The Searchers.

I hate it when objectivists are like, “Oh Bioshock just hates objectivism because they don’t understand it”. When like...yeah they do. They just purposefully chose to make it hyperbolic just like Ayn Rand does to socialism in Atlas Shrugged. And Bioshock doesn’t just hate objectivism, it hates basically all ideology. It mocks collectivism just as much as objectivism in Bioshock 2 because the thesis of these games is basically that any ideology will fall apart upon being implemented at a societal level because cruel people will corrupt that ideology and use it for their own evil ends. Not ‘selfish’ ends, evil ones. Andrew Ryan, Sofia Lamb, Frank Fontaine, and even motherfucking Suchong all use and abuse their respective ideology to get ahead in life and deliberately do evil bullshit because the society around them has been designed based on that ideology. Any and all ideology that you or anyone thinks will make a utopia will fail because sometimes people are just dicks; that’s how I interpreted the throughline of Bioshock 1 and 2. Objectivism? Sometimes people are dicks and will coerce others into doing things or fuck with the great chain the moment it stops going their way or will take advantage of the lack of support available for people who were fucked over by circumstance and lead a revolt. Collectivism? Sometimes people are dicks and will manipulate the collective into working for their own goals or form a cult of personality around themself as ‘the most selfless and kind person’ or fuck with the idea of the ‘common good’ to turn it into ‘whatever is good for them’ whatever the hell Lamb was trying to do with Eleanor. Ideology fails the instant the ‘ideal’ falls apart, aka the moment some dick shows up and decides to fuck shit up. So it’s not just anti-objectivism, it’s anti-ideology-being-implemented-at-a-societal-level. Bioshock tries to show that any and all systems that seem perfect will flounder under enough pressure.

Anti-inflammatory diet.
Hey there, friends! Let's talk about something that could really make a difference in how you feel: adopting an anti-inflammatory diet. 🥦🍓🥑 It's not just a fad; there's solid science behind it that could benefit your health in numerous ways. Here's the scoop:
🥗 Key Takeaway 1: Reduce Inflammation, Feel Amazing "Chronic inflammation is at the root of many diseases, including heart disease, diabetes, and arthritis," says Dr. Frank Hu, Professor of Nutrition and Epidemiology at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. By choosing foods that fight inflammation, you can help reduce your risk of these conditions and feel better overall.
🍎 Key Takeaway 2: Load Up on Antioxidants "Antioxidants found in fruits and vegetables have been shown to combat inflammation by neutralizing free radicals in the body," explains Dr. Barry Sears, a leading authority on anti-inflammatory nutrition. So fill your plate with colorful produce to give your body the ammunition it needs to fight inflammation naturally.
🐟 Key Takeaway 3: Embrace Healthy Fats "Omega-3 fatty acids, found in fatty fish like salmon, as well as nuts and seeds, have powerful anti-inflammatory properties," says Dr. Walter Willett, Professor of Epidemiology and Nutrition at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Including these healthy fats in your diet can help quell inflammation and support overall health.
🥕 Key Takeaway 4: Say No to Processed Junk "Processed foods high in sugar, refined grains, and unhealthy fats can promote inflammation in the body," warns Dr. Andrew Weil, founder and director of the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine. Steering clear of these inflammatory culprits can go a long way in reducing inflammation and improving your health.
🥦 Key Takeaway 5: It's a Lifestyle, Not a Diet "An anti-inflammatory diet isn't just about what you eat; it's also about how you live," says Dr. David Katz, Director of the Yale University Prevention Research Center. Getting regular exercise, managing stress, and getting enough sleep are all important components of an anti-inflammatory lifestyle.
So there you have it, friends. By making simple yet powerful changes to your diet and lifestyle, you can tame inflammation and set yourself on the path to better health and vitality. Let's eat well, live well, and feel amazing together! 🌟 #AntiInflammatoryDiet #HealthyLiving

FACT SHEET: JIHAD
Struggle in the Way of Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala)
IMPACT: Jihad is an Arabic term meaning “to struggle” or “to strive.” Most Muslims agree that the concept is best understood and practiced as an inner spiritual struggle towards faith and good deeds, but anti-Muslim groups and militants have co-opted the word and equate it to violence, “holy war” and terrorism.
Jihad is an Arabic word meaning “to struggle,” or “to strive.” Jihad is a concept often used to describe a person’s “personal, spiritual effort to follow God, live out one’s faith and strive to be a better person.”  Generally, the word has many meanings depending on context. Oxford Islamic Studies Online, an encyclopedia of Islamic Studies, states that “Muslims use the term to refer to battles within themselves or to efforts to improve the Islamic community.”
Western public discourse and militant groups often incorrectly translate the word to mean “holy war.” The Arabic word for war is “harb.” Professor Asma Afsaruddin, an expert on religious and political thought in Islam, states that in the Qur’an, “jihad’s nonviolent aspects are encapsulated in the term śabr, or patient forbearance, to connote individual striving to fulfill God’s commandments in all aspects of life.” However, she states that Islamic juridical literature “conflated jihad with fighting.” In the Qur’an, Jihad is used in multiple contexts including self-defense.
There are four types of “Jihads” or struggles: the Jihad of the heart, the tongue, the hand, and the sword. Jihad in the context of self-defense is carefully controlled in Islamic law with specific guidelines surrounding defensive military actions, which have been compared to those articulated in Just War Theory.
While the majority of Muslims agree that the concept details activities describing inner spiritual struggle to be better for the sake of God, violent militants and anti-Muslim activists have co-opted the word and equated it to violence, “holy war,” and “terrorism.”
During the 2016 presidential election, Republican presidential nominee Dr. Ben Carson promoted a conspiracy theory about a Muslim “civilization jihad” plan to take over America. The Bridge Initiative debunked this claim, which still appeals to Americans who already hold largely negative views of Islam and Muslims. Carson’s source for this claim is the Center for Security Policy (CSP), an organization designated a hate group and run by anti-Muslim activist Frank Gaffney.
During the second Democratic debate in 2015, Hillary Clinton called on the U.S. and the international community “to root out the kind of radical jihadist ideology that motivates organizations like ISIS.” Following the July 14, 2016 terrorist attack in Nice, France, Clinton went on Fox’s O’Reilly Factor program and stated, “We’ve got to do more to understand that this a war against these terrorist groups, the radical jihadist groups.”
In 2015, CSP held the “Defeating Jihad Summit,” which CSP described as the “war for the free world” attended by “freedom-fighters.” The summit included Senator Ted Cruz, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Dutch politician Geert Wilders, former federal prosecutor Andrew C. McCarthy, current CIA director Mike Pompeo, and anti-Muslim speaker Nonie Darwish. The summit involved discussions about various forms of “global jihad,” described as the “violent kind; civilization” or “cultural, stealthy and subversive jihad; institutional jihad” (identified as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the United Nations); “individual jihad (its perpetrators are mistakenly being described as “lone wolves”); and material support.”
In 2012, the American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI) is an organization dedicated to stopping the “Islamization of America.” Led by anti-Muslim activist Pamela Geller, the AFDI ran ads on public transit in cities like New York City and Washington D.C. The ads read: “In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man,” with the tagline: “Support Israel/Defeat Jihad.” The ads recycled orientalist tropes identifying Muslims as the “savage man.”
On her website, Pamela Geller pairs the word “Jihad” with varying subjects to create phrases like “adoption Jihad,” “food Jihad” and “election Jihad.” Other anti-Muslim activists who use this strategy include Robert Spencer who runs the online platform Jihad Watch, an anti-Muslim website funded by David Horowitz, identified by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) as the “godfather of the anti-Muslim movement.” Spencer’s website claims that “violent jihad is a constant of Islamic history and a central element of Islamic theology.” Another website focusing on the “Global Islamic Jihad Movement” is Counterjihad, which seeks to inform the public about this alleged threat by engaging in a “battle of ideas” with the “extremists.”
In the United States, ex-FBI agent John Guandolo, identified by the SPLC as an anti-Muslim extremist, has been holding training sessions for law enforcement entitled “Understanding and Investigating the Jihadi Network.” The sessions are run by his “training and consulting” group, Understanding the Threat, which teaches security professionals and leaders “how to locate and map out jihadi organizations, locate jihadis, and dismantle the network at the local and state level.” The Arizona chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union has stated that Guandolo’s “hateful message” is “so symbolically wrong because it’s a message of hate and racism.”
In mainstream media and public discourse, “Jihadist” is often used to identify any Muslim who engages in a violent act. According to a BBC, the “term “jihadist” has been used by Western academics since the 1990s.” According to Stimson, since 2001, the “U.S. press” has primarily “referenced Jihad” in violent contexts.  Following the 9/11 attacks, it has been more widely used “to distinguish between violent and non-violent Sunni Islamists.” Many Muslims do not use the term “because they see it as wrongly associating a noble religious concept with illegitimate violence.”
During a campaign speech in 2016, then Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, referenced Jihad when discussing the San Bernardino attack. Former and current members of the Trump administration, including Stephen Bannon, Stephen Miller, and Sebastian Gorka, have utilized the word “jihad” or “jihadist” when referencing violence committed by Muslims.
In July of 2017, an edited video of Muslim social justice activist Linda Sarsour’s speech at the Islamic Society of North America conference went viral on Twitter. The activists word’s were tweeted out of context by conservative media outlets like Fox News and figures such as Donald Trump Jr. The viral story led to death threats, calls for rape, and deportation against the activist. In the speech, Sarsour “told a story from Islamic scripture about a man who once asked Muhammad, the founder of Islam, ‘What is the best form of jihad, or struggle?’ And our beloved prophet … said to him, ‘A word of truth in front of a tyrant ruler or leader, that is the best form of jihad.’” In an interview, she stated she was advocating solely for peaceful, nonviolent dissent.
