The Professor Power thing where he is some guy running around in his dead son's body is... really kinda one of those comic book things that are better off not being thought about too much... also Jean just kinda sorta talks this dude to death here...

(SPOILERS obviously):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
An obvious one, but a classic, the "up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's Superman!" line reference. This one never gets old.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jimmy next name drops Flamebird. in the comics Nightwing and Flamebird were Kryptonian superheroes adopting their names from a species of Kryptonian birds. This is where Dick Grayson gets his Nightwing identity from. The page here is from Who's Who: The Definitive Directory of the DC Universe #17 (1986) drawn by Curt Swan and Karl Kesel.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the climatic battle of part 2 of Adventures of a Normal Man, we see Leslie Willis become blue and look more like her traditional Livewire look. Her first appearance was in Superman the Animated Series, season 2 episode 5 "Livewire" where she was voiced by Lori Petty, a.k.a. Tank Girl. In the show Leslie was a shock jock radio DJ slinging hot takes live on air knocking down Superman a peg or two
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Obviously MAwS took Leslie in a whole different direction, design choice, and occupation change, but I am excited to see what happens next for her.
Tumblr media
Before we see Clark battle Leslie we see this guy. White hair, wears orange and black, its Slade Wilson a.k.a. Deathstroke. This fool here in like 20 to 25 years will have his life spiral out of control and get his ass kicked by a bunch of colorfully dressed teenagers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Deathstroke makes his first appearance in New Teen Titans #2 (1980) (W: Marv Wolfman and George Perez, P: George Perez, I: Romeo Tanghal, C: Adrienne Roy, L: Ben Oda) where he is hired by H.I.V.E. to kill the Teen Titans. In the comics he's a major piece of shit, but a damn good assassin.
Tumblr media
After the fight we see Supes clean up and he picks up a billboard that reads Amazotech.
Tumblr media
This is a good reference to Professor Anthony Ivo, a mad scientist of the DC Universe who built the Amazo robot who could adapt and replicate any power that the Justice League has and weaknesses. Both Ivo and the Amazo robot make their first appearances here in Brave and the Bold #30 (1960) with the cover art done by Mike Sekowsky and Murphy Anderson.
Tumblr media
At the end of the episode Slade name drops Task Force X better known as the Suicide Squad. The name "Suicide Squad" is from the Brave and the Bold #25 where it was the name of Rick Flag's unit in the military. The Suicide Squad pop culture knows first debuted in Legends #3 (1987) as seen below (W: John Ostrander and Len Wein, P: John Byrne, I: Karl Kesel, C: Tom Ziuko, L: Steve Haynie).
Tumblr media
The team at this time was composed of Rick Flag, Bronze Tiger, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, Enchantress, and Blockbuster. The team members have changed out with each new Task Force X/Suicide Squad iteration.
Tumblr media
Behind Slade, here is Amanda Waller, the most fearsome woman in the DC universe. She's ruthless, politically powerful, and will not hesitate to blow up anyone in the Suicide Squad if they screw up. She makes her first appearance in Legends #1 (1987) same comic series in the previous picture. Very excited to see where My Adventures with Superman goes with this cuz you don't see Superman interact with Deathstroke or Suicide Squad all the often.

part 1
part 1.5
part 2
Another meek chime rings out from your bed, calling to you, forcing you to slam your textbook shut out of frustration.
You’d been studying for maybe four hours at this point. It was far past dark, the sky now an opaque charcoal. Your eyes are aching. Your back is sore. It was time to take a break.
You hop on your bed, body weight causing it to gently bounce you up and down a few times.
You click your phone on.
New message from (+14556768854)
New message from (+14556768854)
Image from (+14556768854)
New message from (+14556768854)
New message from (+14556768854)
You hesitantly open it up, eyes squinting and head shunned like it might be something unsavory.
(+14556768854)
hey
can u tell me if this looks serious
IMG_5354 [Click to Download]
pls respond
y/n
Your heart lurches.
These texts were from Ellie.
Instantly on edge, and you frantically poke the image link to see it, tapping it repeatedly as if that would speed it up. It buffers, agonizingly, and you prepare yourself to see a grotesque and mangled amalgamation of colors in the next few seconds.
It finally loads.
You scan it quickly, studying and prodding the image with your eyes.
Your mouth flattens.
It’s…just a picture of her flexing.
Your thumbs type at an alarming speed.
that was not fuckijng funny
You throw your phone back at your mattress, deciding to ignore whatever nonsense Ellie will respond with.
It chimes immediately.
You regretfully pick it back up, still angry, and open to read what she says.
lol
“…Fucking stupid…” you mutter, already typing at your response.
im serious
thats not why i gave u my number
ok
why then
You roll your eyes, memory already recalling a couple of days ago, where you very clearly and very obviously told her why.
for emergencies
or if u need me for something important idk
i dont wanna see your thirst traps
You knew that last part was a lie before you even typed it out. That picture she sent was not what you were expecting, but it still turned your insides to mush. It still had you a bit uneasy, nauseous even. Ellie had power over your body like that.
hmmm
i have an emergency
really bad one
You wait on her answer, skeptically, watching those three dots dance around in circles.
im hungry
You let out a sigh.
Then you click your phone off, throwing it elsewhere, and dejectedly gazing at the textbook sitting on your desk. Your professor would want you to, right?
Your phone interrupts you again, noisily snatching your attention with its sounds and jostling your focus from the book.
The sounds don’t stop.
Fuck, you think. Your phone is ringing.
You jerk to pick it up, fingers fumbling it, until finally you’re able to click ‘answer’ and bring it to your ear.
You’re quiet, hoping Ellie will speak first.
“Hi.” a voice says, and you quickly connect that it’s just Ellie’s, sleep riddled and raspy.
“…Hi.”
“So…what’d you think?”
Your eyebrows crease.
“Of what?”
“'Of what?' Of my fuckin’ progress, that’s what! Anthony has me eating, like, six whole chickens a week.” she boasts.
“Oh. I didn’t really…see?…I guess? I don’t know…”
“I mean—I’ve gained almost 30 this year.”
You remain confused. Is that a lot…?
Ellie must understand your silence for what it is and continues.
“Pounds, princess. Muscle. I’m getting fuckin’ huge.”
Oh.
“Okay—I got it now. Um…congrats, then.”
“What, that’s it? That’s all you got for me?”
“I—I don’t know!” you defend, voice coming out a bit louder and higher. “Your muscles look—like, big, all the time! I can’t tell the difference!”
She laughs loudly into the receiver, and you can’t help the smile you wear, hearing it so amplified in your ear.
“You need more pictures? I got more pictures.” she assures.
Simultaneous with her voice, you feel the sharp vibration and hear the dingy chime of your phone.
“Just took that one. You should look at it.” she adds, tone low but casual.
You deeply blush, feeling exposed despite being so alone in your bedroom.
“…Okay.” you agree, sliding the phone off your face to open it up.
A mirror reflection of Ellie’s back fills your screen, stretched and taut into a flexed pose. Her arms are out beside her head, clenched impossibly tight, in effort to completely portray her physique. Your eyes flick down, noticing in the image that she’s wearing only boxers.
She just took that picture?
The air in your room feels warmer, hotter than ever, so you strip down to a tank top and underwear. It feels wrong, almost. Talking to Ellie with this much skin showing. Her not knowing.
“Hello? You there?” Ellie loudly repeats over the speaker, audio fuzzy and weak.
You grasp your phone back up, stuttering out a response.
“Yeah—yes, here. I’m here.”
“'Kay. Your turn.”
You almost drop the device completely.
“My turn?”
“Fair’s only fair, right?”
“…Ellie…” you protest, skin burning with even the idea of her seeing you.
“C’mon, please? I took mine already, you can’t go back.”
You say nothing, whole body sweating, hoping and praying she’ll just forget about it.
“…I wanna see you.” she admits, voice warm and fuzzy through the speaker.
Your cheeks erupt red, a sense of burning flowing throughout your whole body at her words. You curl up, thighs squeezing at themselves, and try to answer.
“But—I’m…I’m in…pajamas.” you whisper, looking down at your bare legs and sheer top.
“You are? Even better.”
“I—I don’t know—”
“You really don’t have to. I’ll live, princess. I promise.”
Your body relaxes entirely, a breath of pure relief leaving your lips, as well as a forceful yawn. Ellie must’ve heard it through the phone.
“Aww—you tired? Should I hang up?”
“No! Don’t hang up! I want to keep talking! I was studying before so I’m a little—a little out of it but—”
“Nope. I’m hangin’ up. Princess needs her beauty sleep.”
“What—no, Ellie.” you argue, albeit lazily, as the energy you have left is truly running low.
“I’ll be here in the morning, won’t I? Good-niiiight—” she lulls, drawing out the last word.
“No! Don’t hang up! Ellie!”
On the other end of the phone, there’s only quiet.
An abyss of silence.
“…Ellie?” you try, voice small.
Nothing.
Your mouth purses, frustrated, as you listen to the absent noise through the speaker.
Still nothing.
You flip over, hostilely pulling the comforter over yourself and crashing your head into the pillow. You feel cold, but you know an extra blanket or some layers wouldn’t make you any warmer. Only she could.
Before you can shut your eyes, the chime sporadically rings out again, and you find yourself rapidly grasping the phone from your mattress.
Immediately you unlock it.
(+14556768854)
sweet dreams
dont let the bed bugs bute
fuck
bite *
call you tomorrow
Your eyelids finally shut, the weight of the day keeping them closed indefinitely. Your limbs go lax, succumbing to exhaustion.
You permit yourself to fall asleep, now knowing fully, that you will have the sweetest of dreams.

Hello librarian squad!
First of all I would like to thank you for all the work you're doing and providing the fandom with reading material, you're doing god's work<3
I was wondering if you, by chance knew some good gomens university AU fics with enemies to lovers trope? Preferably a longer one
Thank you in advance!
Here are all the enemies/rivals to lovers university fics I could find...
More of a Comment than a Question by CemeteryAngel725 (W)
Dr. Aziraphale Fell and Dr. Anthony Crowley are both architectural historians in the same department. You would think they would have a lot in common, but it's the exact opposite - from the day they met, Crowley has done everything in his power to annoy Aziraphale. But now they're being forced to share a hotel room at an academic conference, and Aziraphale is worried. Will they survive the weekend?
A Halo Effect by Tv_Saved_The_Teenage_Girl (T)
Living with a roommate so different from you can start to get on your nerves, but when Aziraphale takes care of Crowley one drunken night, things start to change between them. What will happen when Aziraphale finds out Crowley is in an abusive relationship?
Play The Game by ffonippop (M)
Aziraphale was a university student on his last grueling year of pursuing a joint-honors Bachelors degree in Biology and Theology. His favorite day of the week was Sunday, because on Sunday, he could forget about the lab and leave behind the library to gather with his friends and play a competitive game of trivia— Quiz Bowl. He liked Quiz Bowl because it was a brain game, it was engaging, and it promoted teamwork. But most of all, he liked Quiz Bowl because he was the best at it. Until Crowley, the arrogant bastard with a swagger in his saunter, started showing up.
The Shared Desk Dilemma by MissUnderstoodLyrics (E)
In the hallowed halls of Eden University, professors Aziraphale Eastgate and Anthony Crowley share a desk but have nothing else in common—except for their knack for outwitting each other with escalating pranks that have the entire faculty taking sides. When the university president, in a desperate bid to restore peace, mandates a team-building retreat, the adversaries find themselves reluctantly sharing a room, and sparks fly. Crowley can't stand the pompous, irksome Dr. Eastgate, and the feeling appears to be mutual, yet they can't seem to keep their hands off each other.
A Tricky Situation (Entirely of his own making) by sixbynine (E)
"Crowley stood up and went to leave, he turned back just as he opened the door and took a deep breath. “You know I was quite excited to come here and work with you. I enjoyed reading your work. I disagree with a lot of it, but your writing style is lovely and every so often you’d let that privileged rich white boy mask drop and it was fantastic. I was hoping to meet that Professor Fell, but I’m beginning to think maybe he doesn’t exist and I’m going to be stuck with a rude stuck up arsehole for the next five years.” He slammed the door behind him before Aziraphale could respond. Aziraphale gaped, open mouthed, at the shut door." -- Aziraphale is teaching at Kings College London. He's been teaching at King College London for a long time now thank you very much and he does not take kindly to new Professors being sprung on him suddenly. Especially when this one has quite publically made his opinon of Aziraphale's work known. Luckily Aziraphale has an understanding penpal...

More of a Comment Than A Question, a Good Omens Professors AU by CemeteryAngel725
Tumblr media
My dear @outrageousring5655 asked for 1500 words of smut to record as a mini podfic, and this is what popped out! She asked for Enemies to Lovers and Only One Bed, and I hope this delivers.
Rated E, 1,381 words
Read here on AO3!
Summary:
Excerpt
“But — ahhh, just like that — you don’t even like me — you’re always challenging everything I say —”
Crowley pushed up on his knees, leaning forward to cup Aziraphale’s cheek, dragging him in for a sweet, open-mouthed kiss. “Well, when you pout like that every time you’re cross, you can’t blame a guy for pulling your pigtails a little.”
(when the excerpt is this short you know the story is filthy)
I have a feeling Ring's podfic is going to be part of the @goodomensafterdark 4500 Celebrations!

Advice/hard truths for writers?
The best piece of practical advice I know is a classic from Hemingway (qtd. here):
The most important thing I’ve learned about writing is never write too much at a time… Never pump yourself dry. Leave a little for the next day. The main thing is to know when to stop. Don’t wait till you’ve written yourself out. When you’re still going good and you come to an interesting place and you know what’s going to happen next, that’s the time to stop. Then leave it alone and don’t think about it; let your subconscious mind do the work.
Also, especially if you're young, you should read more than you write. If you're serious about writing, you'll want to write more than you read when you get old; you need, then, to lay the important books as your foundation early. I like this passage from Samuel R. Delany's "Some Advice for the Intermediate and Advanced Creative Writing Student" (collected in both Shorter Views and About Writing):
You need to read Balzac, Stendhal, Flaubert, and Zola; you need to read Austen, Thackeray, the Brontes, Dickens, George Eliot, and Hardy; you need to read Hawthorne, Melville, James, Woolf, Joyce, and Faulkner; you need to read Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky, Turgenev, Goncherov, Gogol, Bely, Khlebnikov, and Flaubert; you need to read Stephen Crane, Mark Twain, Edward Dahlberg, John Steinbeck, Jean Rhys, Glenway Wescott, John O'Hara, James Gould Cozzens, Angus Wilson, Patrick White, Alexander Trocchi, Iris Murdoch, Graham Greene, Evelyn Waugh, Anthony Powell, Vladimir Nabokov; you need to read Nella Larsen, Knut Hamsun, Edwin Demby, Saul Bellow, Lawrence Durrell, John Updike, John Barth, Philip Roth, Coleman Dowell, William Gaddis, William Gass, Marguerite Young, Thomas Pynchon, Paul West, Bertha Harris, Melvin Dixon, Daryll Pinckney, Darryl Ponicsan, and John Keene, Jr.; you need to read Thomas M. Disch, Joanna Russ, Richard Powers, Carroll Maso, Edmund White, Jayne Ann Phillips, Robert Gluck, and Julian Barnes—you need to read them and a whole lot more; you need to read them not so that you will know what they have written about, but so that you can begin to absorb some of the more ambitious models for what the novel can be.
Note: I haven't read every single writer on that list; there are even three I've literally never heard of; I can think of others I'd recommend in place of some he's cited; but still, his general point—that you need to read the major and minor classics—is correct.
The best piece of general advice I know, and not only about writing, comes from Dr. Johnson, The Rambler #63:
The traveller that resolutely follows a rough and winding path, will sooner reach the end of his journey, than he that is always changing his direction, and wastes the hours of day-light in looking for smoother ground and shorter passages.
I've known too many young writers over the years who sabotaged themselves by overthinking and therefore never finishing or sharing their projects; this stems, I assume, from a lack of self-trust or, more grandly, trust in the universe (the Muses, God, etc.). But what professors always tell Ph.D. students about dissertations is also true of novels, stories, poems, plays, comic books, screenplays, etc: There are only two kinds of dissertations—finished and unfinished. Relatedly, this is the age of online—an age when 20th-century institutions are collapsing, and 21st-century ones have not yet been invented. Unless you have serious connections in New York or Iowa, publish your work yourself and don't bother with the gatekeepers.
Other than the above, I find most writing advice useless because over-generalized or else stemming from arbitrary culture-specific or field-specific biases, e.g., Orwell's extremely English and extremely journalistic strictures, not necessarily germane to the non-English or non-journalistic writer. "Don't use adverbs," they always say. Why the hell shouldn't I? It's absurd. "Show, don't tell," they insist. Fine for the aforementioned Orwell and Hemingway, but irrelevant to Edith Wharton and Thomas Mann. Freytag's Pyramid? Spare me. Every new book is a leap in the dark. Your project may be singular; you may need to make your own map as your traverse the unexplored territory.
Hard truths? There's one. I know it's a hard truth because I hesitate even to type it. It will insult our faith in egalitarianism and the rewards of earnest labor. And yet, I suspect the hard truth is this: ineffables like inspiration and genius count for a lot. If they didn't, if application were all it took, then everybody would write works of genius all day long. But even the greatest geniuses usually only got the gift of one or two all-time great work. This doesn't have to be a counsel of despair, though: you can always try to place yourself wherever you think lightning is likeliest to strike. That's what I do, anyway. Good luck!

People say Eloise is a self centered white feminist who enjoys the privileges that come with being a Bridgerton and although that's true, she is also a sheltered teenage girl who needs to learn about the world.
Her feelings of marriage are valid and while she needs to learn that desiring motherhood and marriage doesn't make a woman lesser, it's part of growing up and learning true feminism. She's a baby feminist but viewers don't want her to grow. How many teenage girls in today's day and age are all-knowing about feminism theory? Her friendship with Theo taught her about the working class and that connection to the outside world could have been a great learning experience for Eloise. Yes she has the privilege of being a Bridgerton but that safety net is exactly why she should be allowed to advocate for things the way she wanted Whistledown to(not a critique of the character but rather the writing and the fandom)
Penelope did some selfish things as Whistledown, abusing her power (cause it wasn't just about being gossip girl for the bag) and rather than acknowledge that we're expected to sweep it under the rug. I LOVE flawed characters because the writing acknowledges their wrong doings and yet certain characters get away with murder.
Eg s1 Blair was awful to Serena and while she had her reasons for doing so, revenge and her own self worth and abandonment issues, the show acknowledged this and we wanted good things for Blair. Serena slept with her best friend's boyfriend and covered up a mans overdose but we still root for her because she is a good person and is trying to grow.
If Penelope doesn't acknowledge her wrongdoings how can she grow as a character.
"Okay publishing a burn book is wrong but I love writing and I'm good at it, maybe I should become Jane Austin or something."
(throwing in how Edwina was raked over the coals for being angry with Kate and while the half sister comment was uncalled for, she wasnt given the same grace Penelope has been given)
I'm sorry for how long and all over the place this is.
No, I get it. The issue is that some characters are given grace while others are crucified. Some characters have their circumstances considered when examining their behavior while others don't. I hate it that some characters get novellas dedicated to defending their bad behavior while others should've just known better.
And that's totally the way I see Eloise Bridgerton. She's a baby feminist! She is in her just watched Ironed Jawed Angels and has maybe read a few zines era of feminism. When I was 17, I remember saying in class that I didn't think it was possible to be a SAHM and be happy and now my opinions have radically shifted because I'm not a kid anymore. Now, if you'd ask me I'd say it's a vulnerable position to be in economically because your security is tied up in your marriage working out and or your husband never dying, but it's your choice ultimately. What a difference a fully developed brain and college professors who require you to read bell hooks and Audre Lorde can make.
But seriously, the sad irony of Eloise being raked over the coals for "doing nothing" is that she was trying to become more informed and it blew up in her face. Spending time with Theo and other members of the working class was really good for her. Sadly, Penelope should've known better than most that she was genuinely trying to expand her worldview, but Eloise is the only person getting the bad friend allegations.
And yeah, as much as I love Kate and Anthony, people were way too hard on Edwina in season two. No one wanted to hurt her, but who in her position would toss confetti?
Plus, I'm really glad someone else is seeing the endless Gossip Girl comparisons that can be made here!
P.S. If you're interested one of my favorite Kanthony fics ends in Anthony and Kate encouraging Eloise to become a fiction/social commentary writer.

Workups for Ian & Arasha's costumes in the SSHAU! Enjoy!! (notes below cut)
This is their main superhero/villain-ing fits. Generally, when Ian's doing detective-work he's got his regular [REDACTED] trenchcoat fit going on. This is Arasha's villain fit, because when she was a hero, she wore a completely different outfit that I may or may not also draw in the future. Ian's fit is vaguely inspired by Batman & Solder Boy, with that Jason Todd- sort of face mask. I imagine he has the visor because it's prescription, lol. Arasha's fit is obviously mostly stripped from her Anthony's Funeral fit, but with a little Professor Pyg thrown in there, with the smock thing she's got. I imagine when she pulls down her little facemask thing, that's sort of her tell that's she's about to Allison Hargreeves style control you, because she wants to be sure people can hear her / read her lips so it works. She doesn't need to worry as hard about being anonymous, just because her powers can make people forget things, but obviously there are cameras and such to worry about.

My fic recs
...yes it is just my ao3 bookmarks but anyway.
Hunger Games
Now we're all the chosen ones
Hunger Games & Six of Crows crossover - well, you get six of crows in HG setting. I think the author did a great job at making up the characters background so fits the world and the characters as well.
Not all of them are in one games, which is great, cos all your faves can stay alive, and the series is longer <3
Each of the arenas was very unique as well, it never felt repetitive.
Mag's War/Mag's Trilogy
Basically, the revolution and the aftermath through the eyes of Finnick Oddair, Mag's protege.
What I really like about this series is the worldbuilding that goes into fighting a war, winning it and reform the country, but more so, I like the relationships in this series.
The relationships are really a driving force for Finnick, his love for Mags, Annie, later Cashmere and Johanna. My favourite is Finnick and Johanna (qpr) in the happy end version - "this might not be the perfect ending for everyone, but it is for us"
Phoenix Fire & Mockingjays
Once again, briliant worldbuilding. Even the encyclopedias are fun to read, and the whole thing is rereading material.
There is one story from the series that is my favourite though:
My Eyes Dazzle
Absolutely horrific story of President Snow, his young wife- his obsession and paranoia that runs so deep you can feel it.
Mind the content warnings, though.
Harry Potter
Bonds of Grey
Very elaborate canon rewrite including soulmates – soulmates of choice, platonic soulmates.
You could argue that the characters are overpowered, but it's so fun to read, on the battle field and on political courts as well.
Prince of Slytherin
It'd just feel weird not including Prince of Slytherin, I've read it multiple times. You can also see the writing style improve through the books.
Also, there's a scene of professor Snape eating popcorn at a wizangamot meeting. I think.
Oh god, not again!
Very funny time-travel fix-it. Well, fix it. (Barely anything gets fixed and several new problems are created.)
Contains this quote: HP: „Come on! Do you think if I was the heir of Slytherin, I wouldn't be merchandising it?!“ „...fair enough.“
Lucius Malfoy and the terrible, horrible, no good time
...okay that's not the official title but that's what's going on. It's incredibly funny, I sent this to my roommate and she was laughing out loud.
Lucius is so funny in this, obsessed with his hair, slughtly (rightfully) afraid of his wife, and pissed that the deatheaters keep breaking his fine china.
Next two are from @thistlecatfics
Nymphadora, Nymphet
First of all, mind the content warnings. Really, do. It's the Blacks.
Second of all, this is very beautifully written, and I find myself thinking back at it, remembering some quotes. It's haunting.
Icarus
I've only read this one once, but it stayed with me, it's just so vivid. Dealing with the war ending when the war is the only thing you knew.
Also, the definition of mutually destructive relationship <3
Once again, read the tags, though.
The Locked Tomb
Crawl home to her
I lack the words to describe this, but this fic was what made me actually use the ao3 bookmarks function for the first time. Let that speak for itself.
Descendants
Okay first of all everything that my mutuals wrote <3
So I'm gonna write just few that I really like:
From @tiredflowercrown
There is no sweeter innocence than our gentle sin
Ivy/Claudine. Ivy being the self-destructive diva she is and causing chaos at the pirate crew meeting.
...you know, I just really need to throw Ivy de Vil and Harry Hook into a room together and study them. For the greater good.
Dirty
I just think Harriet should get violent more often, that's all <3
Oleander petals
And Anthony deserves to give in to the darker side. You know, as a treat <3
Does it cross your mind to be slightly sorry?
„Oh so that makes it okay? You had faith that your cousins, who you had never put in positions of power, and the boys who love you so much that they would stop breathing if you asked them to, would be able to care for an entire crew! Harry shut down when he realized you had left! You think Harriet is an alcoholic, you should’ve seen Harry!”
That was a quote and I have nothing else to add.
@humaforever 💞
Seven Deadly Sins
Okay funny story about this story: I just started rambling about this ship in dms, completely drunk, and when I woke up the next day, (hungover), there was a story!
A miracle!
(thank you)
Innocent bystander
Sammy Smee is suffering, forever and ever. It's fun to watch.
Secret Santa
This one is great cos it's all my faves! Together! Being happy! Causing only moderate amount of chaos!
Look I'm pretty sure that I could write it down from memorory with like, fifty percent accuracy. It's just good, and I'm rereading stuff a lot.
@shellyseashell
Heart made of glass
Claudine! Pirates! Theatre nights!
What else can you wish for?
No, really, I really love this story. It's amazing with the friendships Claudine is slowly building, with Isle kids that shouldn't care but do.
Our finest gifts we bring
Anthony fretting over what to get his Girlfriends for christmas.
Every character that appears feels so real and true, and I like the gifts that they got.
@theamityelf
The worst is now the victor
Descendants kids in Hunger Games setting cos apparently I like hurting myself-
Really though, it's so well written, and there's a ton of comfort in there as well. And Uma always trying to do the most!
Where the angels used to be
Another crossover, this time Good Omens, with Uma and Audrey taking on the roles of Crowley and Aziraphale respectively. (For those interested, Core 4 are horsemen of the apocalypse.)
I really like watching Uma and Audrey through the ages, but my favourite is them with Harry and Gil. Uma just. Let them follow her everywhere. She forgot that humans are supposed to age and die, okay?
And Harry didn't really feel like telling her.
The scene when Audrey tells her is probably my favourite, Uma's just like: "Harry? Do you wanna die?" "Nah I'm good." "Okay."
@nocturna-iv
A path to an answer
... I'm just gonna leave the link there for this one.
Blue Domain
Complete AU. Some politics, Evie and Uma friendship, Harry/Uma, what more could a girl want.
Okay last ones probably, without tagged author:
Anchored
Ladies and gentlemen, behold, the first smut fic I managed to read. (That's not on the author btw, that's on me, I don't really like most smut scenes. This is very sweet tho)
Til the storm comes
The pirate crew. Not just Sea Three, the whole dead. Bonny, Desiree, Jonas, Gonzo, Claudine, Marya, whole bunch of others.
This fic is great, very raw-like. They're Isle kids to the core and it's so real.
Plus, the party scene is great.
That concludes my fic recs for the day, thank you for your attention <3

Music in Golden-Age Florence, 1250–1750: From the Priorate of the Guilds to the End of the Medici Grand Duchy
This book is recommended to academics and musicologists interested in the music of this time period and place. The book is about music in Florence, Italy from 1250-1750, its intended audience ranges from amateur historians to professional musicologists and musicians. The title's blend of historical and musicological information makes it particularly outstanding.
As the title indicates, this book presents the music composed and performed in Florence during its most prolific and productive time: from the Middle Ages to the end of the Baroque. This 500-year time capsule saw Florence as a politically and ecclesiastically dominant city on the Italian peninsula and musically and culturally significant within the European landscape. In the preface, the author, Anthony Cummings, details his approach and presentation of the information within the book, attempting to satisfy the interests of both music amateurs and professional musicologists with his approach and presentation.
Divided into four major sections containing 19 chapters and a conclusion, 500 years of historical and musical history are discussed and intertwined. The first section examines late medieval Florence from roughly 1250 to 1450, known as the Duecento and Trecento periods. Both secular and religious music are covered, along with various buildings and churches within Florence and their influences and important composers. Francesco Landini (d. 1397) is generally considered the major Florentine composer of this time. Influences from French music along with the rise of liturgical polyphony round out this first section. The second section focuses on the politics and music of the early Renaissance known as the Quattrocento period, when the Medici family began its rise to power. Ecclesiastical institutions, sacred music innovations, the Florentine carnival, music and patrons in the Medici establishment, and the Medici in exile round out the topics in this section. The third section discusses the late fourteenth and fifteenth centuries known as the Cinquecento period, describing the rise of the madrigal, the Medici family’s influence, and ties to the papacy, the chanson, the lauda, sacred music and the major musical buildings and composers of the Reformation and Counter-Reformation, and finally a chapter on Medici pageantry. The fourth section covers the Baroque time, roughly 1600 to 1750. The rise of opera and monody along with the influences and personalities that changed musical style from a focus on musical extravagance to a focus on the text and words created a widespread movement across the entire Europe. Other topics discussed include religious and dynastic ritual music, devotional and convivial uses of music, and the pan-Italian and pan-European phases of growth within the operatic medium. The conclusion provides a concise summary of both musical and political Florence during these 500 years.
Anthony Cummings is Professor of Music at Lafayette College who specializes in historical musicology. Cummings has taken on a challenging subject and presented it in a way that tries to balance both general and extremely complex political, ecclesiastical, and musicological information. As a musicologist, I appreciate the level of detail provided in the musical examples and their descriptions; I don’t know whether this type of information can be digested by the amateur reader or historian. I also appreciate how the author has interwoven historical information and musicological descriptions, as well as various personages and composers of importance. The numerous black-and-white images and photographs, along with the color plates, help to balance out the textual and musical examples. Overall, while the attempt by the author is commendable in relation to writing for two different types of audiences, I find the book will probably be more amenable to academics and musicologists than the general public. Given the author’s background, this is probably a successful strategy in the long run.

My Easter eggs and references for My Adventures with Superman comic issue 3 post is here
SPOILERS if you have not seen the episode of course:
We start off the episode with an Amazo Tech blimp crashing into a building in Metropolis
Tumblr media
You don't see a lot of blimps in Metropolis. Gotham is usually the one with a lot of blimps flying around. If you saw the episode on Adult Swim when it premiered on air you'll know that the next episode involved Professor Anthony Ivo and Amazo Tech. Throughout the previous episodes and this one, the Amazo Tech brand is shown to set up next week's episode. After the scene we go to a break in at Stryker's Island (more on that location later) as we see one of the villains for the episode Mist...
Tumblr media
and one of his partners...
Tumblr media
Rough House who are trying to break out...
Tumblr media
Siobhan McDougal. If you know your Superman comics, you'll also know here as Silver Banshee.
Kyle/Mist is a VERY old DC supervillain from the 1940s who first appeared in Adventure Comics #47 (1941) as the arch villain to Starman. Mist's design in the comics is RADICALLY different from the show.
Tumblr media
MAwS modernized Mist's design compared to here in these comics panels (W: Alfred Bester, P&I: Jack Burnley, C: Raymond Perry, L: Betty Bentley). In the comic Mist's power allows him to turn his body into a gaseous form thus the name. MAwS uses Mist as someone who can turn himself and objects invisible (lowkey when Mist showed up I was like "is that Luminus from Superman the Animated Series?") Fun fact in the comic, we don't know what Mist's last name is. All we know is that his name is Kyle and in the show that is what Rough House calls him on accident but at least he has a last name, McDougal in MAwS.
Tumblr media
Rough House makes his first appearance in Adventures of Superman #544 (1997) (W: Karl Kesel, P: Stuart Immonen, I: José Marzán Jr., C: Glenn Whitmore & Digital Chameleon, L: Albert DeGuzman) where we see him rip open a door with his bear hands as a member of Intergang (more on them later).
Tumblr media
Siobhan McDougal aka Silver Banshee makes her first appearance here in Action Comics 595 (cover by John Byrne). In the comics Silver Banshee's powers are a lot different than how MAwS does it. Comics Silver Banshee has the Banshee Curse giving her powers like flight, super strength, a death stare, and of course her signature thing, the Death Wail, a sonic scream that can knock someone into a coma or it outright kills them. The version in the show gives Silver Banshee her signature sound manipulation powers through a mask...
Tumblr media
which kind of invokes her comic counterpart's skull face design.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mist and Rough House break into Stryker's Island to free Mist's sister Silver Banshee (in the comics Mist and Silver Banshee have no familial connection). Stryker's Island makes its first appearance in Superman #9 (1987) (W&P: John Byrne, I: Karl Kesel, C: Tom Ziuko, L: John Costanza) where Joker arrives in Metropolis to challenge Superman. Stryker's Island is supposed to be a stand in for Riker's Island in New York even though there is a Riker's Island in the DC Universe because Metropolis is often a reflection of New York City.
Tumblr media
The next Easter egg is the scene after where Lois name drops Waid's Cafe as a reference to...
Tumblr media
Mark Waid, one the best writers in the comic book industry. In terms of DC work, you might recognize his writing credit on Flash with artist, Brian Augustyn (we miss you Brian), Kingdom Come with painter, Alex Ross, and Superman Birthright with artist, Leinil Yu (highly recommend checking out all three titles). He's also currently writing for Batman/Superman: Worlds Finest with artist Dan Mora, which I also HIGHLY recommend reading. Fantastic writer, super nice person if you ever meet him at a convention.
Later, Jimmy is heard screaming "back you monsters" and we see some more of the Daily Planet staff...
Tumblr media
From left to right its Cat Grant (doing the anime high society lady laugh), who runs the celebrity and gossip side of the paper, Steve Lombard, who reports on sports, and Ronnie Troupe, the investigative journalist on the team. Their names were mentioned in the previous episode after taking Lois, Jimmy, and Clark's credit for the Superman piece.
Tumblr media
Cat Grant make her first appearance here in the Adventures of Superman #424 (1987) (W: Marv Wolfman, P: Jerry Ordway, I: Mike Machlan, C: Tom Ziuko, L: John Costanza) as a potential love interest to Clark to shake up the Clark-Lois-Superman dynamic. You might've seen her in the live action CW Supergirl show. Like in MAwS, in the comics Cat does the gossip columns writing for the Daily Planet.
Tumblr media
Steve Lombard makes his first appearance in Superman #264 (1973) (W: Cary Bates, P: Curt Swan, I: Murphy Anderson) as a foil to Clark Kent. Steve acts very brash and rude to contrast Clark's mild manner and friendly demeanor. Later iterations of Steve give him the mustache that becomes part of his signature design.
Tumblr media
In MAwS, Ronnie Troupe is a gender swap of Ron Troupe in the comics who makes his first appearance in the Adventures of Superman #480 (1991) (this page specifically, W: Jerry Ordway, P: Tom Grummett, I: Denis Rodier, C: Glenn Whitmore, L: Albert DeGuzman). Like his MAwS counterpart, Ron is an investigative journalist and very level headed. He was the first to break the story about Cyborg Superman meeting the then PoTUS, Bill Clinton.
Tumblr media
A news report on TV in the Daily Planet shows Bethany Snow of Channel 52 News reporting about the break out in Stryker's Island. The logo for Channel 52 News reminds me very much DC's 2005 logo.
Tumblr media
As for Bethany Snow and Channel 52 News, Bethany made her first appearance in the New Teen Titans #22 (1982) (W: Marv Wolfman, P: George Perez, I: Romeo Tanghal, C: Adrienne Roy, L: Ben Oda) as a news reporter and follower of the Brother Blood cult.
Tumblr media
Later iterations and retcons had Bethany Snow as just a reporter where she does the Channel 52 news in the back end of DC comic titles in 2013.
Tumblr media
Freddie E. Williams II is the artist for these as Channel 52 was way to let readers know what is happening in other DC titles that they might want to check out with other DC characters reporters accompanying Bethany as seen in the promotional art with Vartox, Ambush Bug, and Calendar Man. Obviously MAwS redesigned Bethany Snow but they at least kept her occupation.
Tumblr media
A quick one but we see Lois call Clark "Smallville" a nickname that has been used in various media involving Clark and Lois.
After news report on TV, we cut to Siobhan, Kyle, and Rough House in their hide out where they name drop their group name, Intergang.
Tumblr media
In the comics and other media, Intergang is a world wide crime syndicate who is supplied with powerful high tech weaponry from the evil New Gods of Apocalypse, if you know your DC universe, that is everyone is Darkseid's circle. Intergang first appeared in Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen #133 (1970) created by LEGENDARY artist Jack Kirby.
Tumblr media
Here in Forever People #1 (1971) (W&P: Jack Kirby, I: Vince Coletta, L: John Costanza), you can see they have direct contact with Darkseid. Originally led by Morgan Edge, later versions of Intergang had leadership change from Joe Danton to Max Danner. Post-crisis, Intergang is led by Bruno Mannheim (the Intergang boss that I am familiar with), his father Moxie Mannheim would later lead Intergang. Current continuity in DC has Bruno still be the leader of Intergang.
In the episode we learn that MAwS version of Intergang is very small time. Siobhan, Kyle, and Rough House rob convenience stores and make smash and grab runs. But maybe MAwS will move Intergang in the criminal syndicate direction in the future who knows.
After the Intergang scene we cut to Lois, Jimmy and Clark walking up to the front of Stryker's and Jimmy mentions something interesting about convincing the warden to spill on the government's... (read Jimmys quote in the screenshot to complete the sentence)
Tumblr media
The term meta-human has its roots in the DC Universe if you did not know! The term was first used here in Invasion #1 (1988) (W: Keith Giffen and Bill Mantlo, P: Todd McFarlane, I: P. Craig Russell, C: Carl Gafford, L: Gaspar Saladino)
Tumblr media
In the comic, the Dominators discover that certain humans have what is known as the meta-gene which grants them powers when under a lot of duress and so to test this they rounded up a group of humans and experimented on them with only 6 surviving who gained powers. The Dominators conclude that the human population must be eliminated or there will be a rise in meta-humans on Earth.
How does the government, according to Jimmy, connect to all this. is a possible nod to one of the plot points in Doomsday Clock where the idea that 90% of DC's meta-humans are from the US and they have been engineered by the government. This conspiracy, in the comic is known as the Superman Theory.
Tumblr media
This here is one part of the back matter you can read at the end of Doomsday Clock # 5 (2018) (W: Geoff Johns, P&I: Gary Frank, C: Brad Anderson, Back Matter Design: Amie Brockway-Metcalf). Later the trio, specifically Lois, steals the warden's ID badge and were able to access where Siobhan was kept. On the ID the warden's name is Agatha Zorbatos, who's first appearance in the comics was in Batman #23.4 (2013), as the warden of Blackgate Penitentiary in Gotham
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Obviously her design in the comic is drastically different from how she looks in the show. The one on your right is from Batman Eternal #4 (2014) (Story: Scott Snyder & James Tynion IV, Script: John Layman, Consulting Writers: Tim Seeley & Ray Fawkes, P: Dustin Nguyen (my favorite comic book artist of all time), I: Derek Fridolfs, C: John Kalisz, L: Rob Leigh).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the climax of the episode we see more of the alien crystal that Superman encountered last episode from the tech that MAwS Intergang used and it strangely looked familiar. I wouldn't be surprised if the animation team were fans of Neon Genesis Evangelion especially with the way the robots were designed in the first part of episode one and here how the crystal reshapes itself like the angel Ramiel. Also since I'm at my 30 image limit here and I can't post anymore, I also want to point out that the poster that Siobhan has in her cell was a cat with the words "Believe it" over its head I like to believe that is a Naruto reference because the dub has Naruto say "believe it" all the time. I guess I'm gonna be doing the Easter Eggs and references for each episode so expect this to be a weekly thing. I hope you all enjoy my doing this If you made it down here and want to see my first two easter eggs and reference posts for episodes one and two are here and here.

George Chidi at The Guardian:
The Fulton county district attorney, Fani Willis, has pledged to drive forward in her prosecution of Donald Trump, even as he once again ascends to the presidency. But the Georgia court of appeals may have other plans. The appeals court on Monday abruptly canceled oral arguments scheduled for 5 December in Georgia v Trump et al, the racketeering case alleging that Trump and more than a dozen of his allies conspired to steal the 2020 election. The court offered no explanation, and has not replied to a request for comment. Trump’s appeal of Fulton county superior court judge Scott McAfee’s order, which declined to disqualify Willis after bombshell revelations about a romantic relationship with her chosen special prosecutor, was to be argued before a three-judge panel. As part of their effort to dismiss the case, Trump and his co-defendants alleged Willis’s relationship meant she should be recused from the case.
Most cases before the appellate court are decided on pleadings, without oral argument. Nonetheless, the panel’s cancellation unleashed a wave of speculation about their intentions. “There’s a decent chance that the appeal gets dismissed as improvidently granted because the court wants Judge McAfee to address how the case will proceed now that Trump is president-elect,” said Anthony Michael Kreis, a constitutional law professor in Georgia and a close observer of the case. It is also possible that the appellate judges may have concluded that “defendants didn’t satisfy their evidentiary burden and so there’s no need for [the appeals court] to intervene”. Trump’s election has meant an end to federal prosecutions. Jack Smith announced that he would wind down the case involving Trump’s mishandling of classified documents and election interference shortly after the election. Federal prosecutors are now concerned that a vengeful White House will target them in retribution.
Trump’s lawyers on Wednesday asked the judge overseeing the hush-money criminal case for permission to make yet another play for dismissal, arguing that throwing out the case was necessary “in order to facilitate the orderly transition of Executive power”. The sentencing date of 26 November for his conviction is on hold. If the court sets the Manhattan conviction aside, Georgia is the last line of prosecution remaining against Trump. It is a state-level case, in a state that has no meaningful avenue for executive clemency. Willis reaffirmed her intent to pursue prosecutions on the case in comments last week, potentially waiting for Trump to come out on the other side of his four-year term. “If someone has an indictment in this office, no matter who they are, we continue to pursue those charges,” Willis, who was just re-elected to a second term, said at a media availability. “I’m here for eight more years, is my plan, so if that’s what it takes for us to get justice in some cases, we come to work every day, we’ll come in and look for justice.”
Fani Willis’s Georgia v. Trump prosecution could be on very shaky ground post-Trump victory.

Hello!
Do you have any bookbinder Aziraphale/ gardener Crowley human au's??
Thank you!
The only fic I know of and can find that is specifically book restorer Aziraphale and gardener Crowley is the very popular and well-known...
Petrichor & Parchment by MrsNoggin (E)
“Mr. Crowley, I presume?” Aziraphale asked in lieu of an introduction, which was not forthcoming. The guy hadn’t even removed his sunglasses. Oh God, he had a tattoo on his face. Aziraphale wasn’t one to judge, but… what kind of gardener had a snake tattoo on his face?
But here are some gardener Crowley fics in which Aziraphale works with books in one way or another...
The Easter Petting Zoo by MM2022 (G)
“Didn’t you hold a duckling?” “Er,” said Aziraphale, looking up from where he was kneeling on the ground, trying to entice to most energetic of the kids frolicking around to get into his lap (he watched it attempt to climb a resting sheep earlier, and then the hay feeder, certainly his knees wouldn’t be much of a stretch?), and promptly losing his gift of speech. Addressing him was one of the animal handlers, the gorgeous red-haired man Aziraphale noticed as soon as he walked up to the mobile pen. Whickber Street Shopkeepers and Traders Association brings in a petting zoo for Easter, and bookseller Aziraphale stops by. A human AU meet-cute.
Turn To Face The Sun by his_infinitevariety (G)
Five times Crowley watches Aziraphale picking flowers, and one time Aziraphale is given flowers by Crowley.
Please Stay by curiouswriterkr (E)
Did the angel just insinuate-? Crowley grinned at him. Might as well take the invitation. “Well, I’d love to hear it one day over a glass of wine, then,” the gamble worked because Aziraphale beamed and wiggled. His lips parted and his eyes focused on Crowley’s sunglasses. “That would be delightful, Crowley,” his name rolled off Aziraphale’s tongue like it was a delicious chocolate raspberry truffle. In short, Crowley moves in next door to Aziraphale and sparks fly. And then so much miscommunication begins to happen and assumptions are made and things get very rocky indeed. (Because sometimes these two share a brain cell.)
Almost Heaven by pilatesandpinot (E)
English literature professor Azra Fell finally decides to go on sabbatical for a semester. If he were smart, he’d probably spend his time in the Mediterranean, go hiking across Europe or America, or perhaps learn the power of prayer and meditation. Instead, he settles into a seaside town called Abel’s Point, also known as “Almost Heaven”, hoping some time away from London will help him rejuvenate and write his memoir. Little does he know that the town will prove more than he bargained for. Not to mention his next door neighbor, Anthony Crowley, who happens to be the most flirtatious yet neurotic man in town.
and now all of my garden is grown in lavender by ilikeblue (E)
Popular queer romance author, A.Z. Fell, has been lying about having a husband and a happy marriage for years. Longing to escape a string of failed relationships and looking for a fresh start, Aziraphale moves into the cottage left to him by his Great Aunt Agnes. When a TV adaptation of one of his books leads to sudden popularity and throws him into the limelight, his fans (and the press) are eager to catch a glimpse of Aziraphale's own mysterious leading man. Unfortunately, he still has to cast someone for that role. Enter the handsome gardener… Under Crowley's meticulous care the cottage's neglected garden slowly comes back to life, and Aziraphale finds himself writing the most important love story he'll ever write: his own

Lessons In Nursing (Calvin Evans x Reader)
Tumblr media
Summary: You decide to have your mother-in-law come and give a lecture to your class, but woe to the heckler who incurs her wrath
Tagging: @floydsmuse Meggy, I hope you're good with it, but the entire time I wrote this I was picturing Emma from White Christmas as Patricia and could literally hear her voice as I wrote it (lol).
Warnings: Pregnancy, college admin being a sexist moron, misogynistic remarks, etc.
"You nervous Pat?" you asked as the three of you made your way towards the science buildings on campus.
"Not in the least (y/n)," Pat answered confidently. "I've had to give numerous lectures in the past and have yet to face one that I couldn't do. How about yourself? How are things?"
"I'm tired," you answered.
"I tried that home remedy you suggested the other day Ma," Calvin answered. "The one with the raw ginger?"
"Did it help with the morning sickness?" Pat asked.
"Morning sickness, yes but the fatigue is a different story," Cal said.
"A mug full of chamomile tea in the morning will do you good," Patricia explained. "Did it with every single one of my kids and it hasn't failed me since."
The three of you had at last arrived at Franklin Hall, a tall, imposing gothic monstrosity of a building that looked more like a medieval church than a reputable college institution. Here was where the science classes were all held, chemistry, biology, anatomy and physiology as well as the nursing courses that you taught.
"You gonna be able to make it this afternoon?" you asked Calvin as he handed Six-Thirty and his leash off to you.
"I'll make it," Calvin promised. "Dr. Powers and I will both be there after our classes get out at twelve. But after that I need you down to the cafeteria so you can get something to eat. I don't want you faint in the middle of the lecture."
You chuckled and kissed your husband, even as Six-Thirty nudged your belly with his nose. "Now you knock that off," you told the dog. "That's Daddy's job."
Calvin smiled as he gave you one last hug, his hands trailing to the slightly evident bump that had shown up overnight. He couldn't feel the baby kicking quite yet, but you knew that when he did, he wouldn't be able to keep his hands off you.
"Good luck Sweetpea," he said, pressing one last kiss to your lips. "I'll see you at noon."
"I'll see you then."
Cal pulled open the heavy oak and iron doors, letting you, Six-Thirty and his mother in first before he followed you both down the hall. He headed straight for the chemistry labs with Dr. Powers while you and Pat headed for the anatomy lecture room.
Your girls were all awaiting in the room, each one in their lab coats, chattering away as you and Pat took yours from the rack. "Good morning ladies," you chirped.
"GOOD MORNING PROFESSOR EVANS!" they chimed in.
"Alright ladies," you announced, taking your place in the lecture pit. "We've got our demonstration today at noon and to prepare, I've brought a little guest to help. So without further adieu, I present to you all, my mother-in-law, Patricia Evans."
"Thank you sweetheart," Patricia said, taking her place at the stand. "Alright ladies, none of the usual bullshit this morning. Lets get down to business....."
********************
"So am I technically doing this right?" the eighteen year old asked Calvin.
"Yep, you're good," Calvin assured him. "Just let it drip into the beaker and let it do its thing."
Calvin absolutely loved working with the eager, fresh-faced students who had come from all the local high schools in the area. To him it meant being able to get back to basics, to go back to the roots of chemistry and to teach them from the ground up. He loved when they got creative with their notebooks, drawing colorful pictures and diagrams and experimented with their handwriting. Any other professor would have turned their noses up at it, but Calvin and Anthony Powers absolutely loved it.
"Hey Professor Evans?"
"What's up Frank?"
"Remind me again what color the fluids are supposed to be again after they've boiled?"
"It's supposed to be pale pink," Calvin answered. "What color is it now?"
"It's a dark pink."
"Let it go another five to ten minutes but no more than that," Calvin instructed.
He looked up at the wall clock and saw that it was ten minutes till noon. As soon as he had the chance, Calvin ordered everyone to clean up and to put their experiments in the glass cabinets until tomorrow. He dropped his lab coat in the laundry and made his way down to the other end of the wing, eager to hear and see your demonstration.

"..........Now these particular tests are quite easy, but determining the results can be a real hassle," Patricia explained to the audience. "Back in the day you wouldn't have thought to test the patient's blood at all and half the time you'd wait until really, truly, severe symptoms appeared......."
"Your mother's a knowledgeable lady that's for sure," Dr. Powers remarked to Calvin, the two of them sitting higher up from the pit.
"Knowledgeable isn't even the half of it," Calvin whispered back to him. "You should see when she really gets going."
"Now after the blood test has been done," Patricia continued to explained. "It's best to continue the treatment as is, until further notice or until the results come in and then determine the course of action therewith."
"Sounds like a brilliant plan," someone in the crowd spoke. "Coming from a woman."
The entire room fell so silent one would have been able to hear a dog whistle. "I'm sorry?' Patricia enquired.
"It just seems funny to me to think that you know more than the doctors on this campus," the grey-haired young man said to her. "After all, nursing is one of the lesser sciences."
Calvin wide-eyed and made a face, Dr. Powers groaning and running his hands over his chubby, round face. "Oh no, he didn't," Powers groaned.
"Brace yourself, this shitshow's about to get worse," Calvin warned him under his breath.
You and Patricia glanced at each other, your mother-in-law noticing the way your jaw clenched and how your posture stiffened.
"Young man do you work here?" she asked.
"Well......yes but I....."
"And to what department do you belong?" Patricia questioned sharply.
"Well, the medical arts," the young man replied. "You see I had studied at the Harvard Medical College and......."
"Oh and Ivy Leaguer huh?" Patricia said. "Tell me now, have you ever stitched up a man with shrapnel flying around you in all directions?"
"No I......."
"Have you ever had to repair a torn aorta in a tent before?"
"No I......"
"What about trenchfoot?" Patricia questioned again. "Ever had to deal with any of that?"
"No ma'am I......"
"Then I wouldn't consider you much of a doctor in that case," Patricia scoffed.
"Now ma'am you see here for a moment!"
"Young man, I had to earn my stripes in the middle of a shelled out church in France, rearraigning men's guts day after day while everywhere else was having the living daylights pounded out of them," Patricia snapped. "So until you yourself have been there, I suggest you sit up a little straighter, keep your legs crossed, shut your mouth and mind your own business!"
The young man cleared his throat and sat up a little straighter, as did everyone else including Six-Thirty who was in the corner at your feet. Not a single soul in that lecture hall dared to make another snide comment to Patricia Evans or to you.

"Well that went a little better than expected," Patricia commented as you, her and Cal made your way up the little brick path to the house. "Although I could've done without Mr. Ivy Leaguer there making those snide remarks."
"I saw him cross his legs the minute you snapped Ma," Calvin chuckled, unlocking the door.
"My apologies, but the damn fool had it coming," Patricia remarked. "Besides, if that had been your father, he would have said things that would have Ulysses S. Grant himself rolling over in his grave."
"Or blushing in most cases," you chuckled.
You both entered the house, the place warm and cozy as ever with the smell of dinner cooking on the stove. One could say whatever they liked about Henry Evans Jr., but the man was a damn good cook.
Henry and Pat both conversed about the happenings of the day while you and Cal enjoyed their company. All of you laughed at the lecture incident, but when Calvin looked at you and mouthed a silent "I love you", you couldn't help but lean into him, one arm round you and the warmth of your husband surrounding you.
