Chapter 5 - The House

Immediately, the window drew his attention and Henry gravitated over to it. The view was beautiful. Following a decent-sized garden was a gate that led into a deep forest.  “Sold,” Henry stated, staring deep into the forest. 

“Over the view.” Gordon moved to stand next to Henry. “You're strange sometimes.”

“There's something about the woods, you know?” Henry tried to explain himself. “It's still, and it doesn't change. Constant.”

Suddenly, the door opened to the chattering voices of Annie and Clarabel. “Speak of the devil,” Gordon said, smiling.

“You brought a man in the house and Thomas had to tell us, Gordon. How rude,” one of them said.

Henry giggled despite himself at Gordon's expression of exasperation.

“It was a spur of the moment,” said Gordon gruffly.

“We don't have your name.”

“Henry Stanier.” Henry held out his hand. “I've heard a lot about you.” 

“Only positive, I assume.” Annie and Clarabel took his hand in turn. “This one's a good looker,” they whispered to Gordon.

“Stop,” Gordon groaned, used to their sense of humour.

Henry looked between Annie, Clarabel, and Gordon. “I really thought they were related to you.”

“Not yet,” Annie sighed, swooning.

“Perhaps one day he'll make honest women of us.” Clarabel smirked, looping her arms around Gordon's waist. 

Henry's eyes widened as he looked between them, drawing all the wrong conclusions.

“I don't need to make ‘honest’ women of you because I haven't done anything to you. Honestly.” His tone held aggression, but he pulled Clarabel off him gently.

“Nothing stops us hoping,” they said in unison, both attaching themselves to his side like limpets.

“You've lived in this house for the past fourteen years.” Gordon sighed. He pulled them off himself before walking across the room and out the door. “Stop hoping,” he called back as he closed the door.

Armin couldn’t stop thinking about you the entire flight. It wasn’t just the fact that you were on the plane with him—it was the way you’d looked at him before takeoff, a teasing smile on your lips that made it hard for him to focus on flying.

With the plane on autopilot and cruising smoothly, he decided to take a break. He found you in the back cabin, lounging casually, but your eyes lit up the moment he walked in.

“You’re supposed to be flying the plane, Captain,” you teased, but your grin told him you were thinking about something else.

Armin smirked, stepping closer. “I’ve got a few minutes. Thought I’d spend them with you.”

Before either of you knew it, you were kissing, the tension that had been building all flight long finally breaking. The small space made everything more intense—every touch, every kiss, every whispered word. It wasn’t just about the thrill of being in the air; it was about being alone together, with nothing but clouds around you.

“I’ve always wondered what it’d be like to join the Mile High Club,” you said, your voice low and playful.

Armin’s response was a mix of excitement and mischief. “Ive had my fair share.”

Everything was a blur after that—clothes coming off, the heat between you rising. The two of you moved together in the tiny cabin, trying to keep quiet but not really caring if anyone heard. It was intense and fast, fueled by the thrill of doing something so risky.

When it was over, you both collapsed onto the small bed, breathless and grinning. Armin pulled you close, his heart still racing. “That was… incredible.”

You laughed softly, pressing a kiss to his cheek. “Definitely one for the books.”

As the plane continued its journey, you lay there together, wrapped up in each other and the moment. Armin knew this flight would be one you’d never forget.

It's a slow day in the 104th training corps. No training since all superiors are away, no exams (also far away), no titans breaching walls and creating havoc. Everyone's off somewhere or very much in somewhere and being nosy about it, there's nothing to do, nowhere to see, and Annie's sure if she doesn't open her mouth and talk to another human-shaped being, she'll go insane.

Not that she has any energy for it.

But maybe... maybe if she can find him, all she'll have to do is listen.

It's doubtful, Armin is rather popular with the people and for all she knows, he could be making the girls flower crowns and reeling off obscure fact after obscure fact to anyone who listens with gusto. On a free day like this, maybe he's not even in town. Maybe he's been whisked off somewhere by his friends. Maybe he-

And then she stops in her tracks because there he is, sitting by the canal, a book in his lap (how typical, she wants to laugh), but all alone.

Maybe he'd rather not see her though and be bothered by her empty presence when he could be reading the book in peaceful solitude.

Somehow, even if she can't nearly overturn her desire to take his time for herself, the sudden doubt roots her to the spot and she can no more walk forward. Instead she just stares at the back of his head where the pale afternoon sun warms the locks of smooth gold hair with a desolate sensation of longing taking over her heart.

Who knew loneliness could cause feelings like this. Her father would be disappointed.

But maybe she creates a darkness, or maybe she creates a void, it's lost to her which, because Armin seems to think he should turn around at that very moment and look for some reason, only to end up blinking with surprise at the sight of her lurking around the corner like a homeless kitten with "take me home" written all over its face.

It's embarrassing really, but thank god he can't see her cheeks properly at this distance.

"Annie!" he calls, a great big smile spreading over his face.

Oh, stupid. Stupid of her to think he wouldn't want to share his time. Armin's an idiot, carelessly giving everyone his time! She's just another one.

"Hi." She says, stepping into the sun to sit next to him. The canal is like the dozen others just like it in this town, nothing remarkably large or impossible to fathom; if she transformed, she'd step right over it without so much as a glance down. She's also nimble and quick on her feet, qualities her father had made certain she was aware of if only to size up an enemy by comparison - even if she were to stumble sitting down by the edge of the canal, nobody in the military would expect her to fall.

So why then, does he reach a hand out as if to catch her if she falls?

And why can't she look away from the shape of his palm?

Armin's smile is, somehow, brighter than the sun on the back of her neck. "I thought you would've gone to the market with Mina and the rest. What are you doing here alone?"

"I could ask you the same," She retorts. "You're always surrounded. How come nobody needs you today?"

There's a flash of something like the edges of disappointment in his eyes, so quick and fleeting that Annie thinks she imagines it when it's gone.

"Well, you know, I'm glad to have the day to myself," He chuckles. "It's quiet and peaceful."

"Right, and then I intruded."

"No, no," He laughs, shaking his head. "I'm glad to see you, Annie."

Annie looks away, squinting at the flowing waters. The sunshine makes it glitter in a million different ways, dazzling her until all that's left in her vision is a soft, beautiful river of light, flowing to some unknown place. In the corner of her vision, she's acutely aware that the book on Armin's lap leaves its place for the stone ground - a sign that makes her nervous, really, because it means that all of his clever little attention is now on her.

"Pretty, isn't it?" He says softly, making her look at him.

At the shape of his face, framed by a soft molten gold that flutters with the wind; at the blue of his eyes, a shade she doesn't really know the word for as it penetrates deep into her own; at the tip of his nose, always dusted an endearing pink; at the ridge of his brows, a tad stronger whenever the bangs move away in the breeze; at the set of his jaw, the shape of his lips, the-

"W-what is?" She stammers, dazed.

"The water." He laughs, and she feels so silly.

"... Right."

Some of the people back in her hometown used to believe in Gods; said calling upon their names would ease their thoughts and bring them to calm.

Perhaps she should try it, just this once, because her heart-

But then, Armin leans in, a smile just short of bashful playing on his lips.

"There's more water like this beyond the walls."

Oh god, there it is. Again. Somehow, she's glad for it.

Annie can't help but release a sigh. "I was wondering if you'd grown tired of talking about the sea. Haven't heard about it in three days."

There's everything in his laugh, embarrassment, happiness, hope the size of the sun, and then some more embarrassment. For better or worse, Annie decides, it's her favourite sound and can he please continue to laugh?

"Sorry. I'm sure I've bored you by now..."

"No," She hums, drawing her knees to her chest and closing her eyes to the warmth heating up her face. "Tell me about it again."

And he does.

And Annie decides it's her favourite story because it's kind and beautiful and better than any of the ones she grew up hearing.

This story of the sea is sweet.

Okay, I’m about to go full Pepe Silvia on the August lims but here’s my insane prediction.

- Ever since the introduction of the two random lim reruns, one of the three reruns a month have had a character that ended up being on that month’s lim banner

- August’s reruns are cafe rec, Halloween 2022, and NY 2023, this means that one of the characters on the end of August lim banner should be Airi, Mizuki, Saki, Shiho, Kohane, Minori, Tsukasa, An, or Rin

- Kohane and Minori both have 7 lims so they can’t be lim

- Airi was lasts month’s lim so she can’t be lim

- Rin is on vs wl so she can’t be lim, and if Mizuki5 is MizuEna 4 stars, since one of them needs to be anni, the event would need to be directly after August lim, so she can’t be lim either

- This leaves us with Saki, Shiho, Tsukasa, and An as possible candidates for an end of August lim

With that, I’d say there’s two likely options for August lim:

- L/n hako lim - Most likely Ichika5, clpl has been obsessed with hako lims lately, between Saki and Shiho the one not lim here would be anni

- Tsukasa mix 3 - Clpl seems to be trying to get the leaders 3rd mixes done fast, also could be a easy explanation for the whole Kasa5 fiasco

I’d say An is much less likely since she’s 4 stars on the current event and has a chance to be anni, but there is a slim chance she could be August lim

Anyway that’s my prediction, I’m ready for clpl to completely destroy it, but they’re always really fun to make!

the 'rule' you mentioned also applies just to the random rerun banners on their own, really seems like they're just asking for money from fans atp LOL. the only exception is July (intersecting melodies + CGO->ideal idol), though that's probably down to the fact they're running out of gachas to random rerun.

if we go based on the random rerun rule, then Tsukasa is indeed the only one who works. while he has one of the highest 4* counts in the game, it can easily be balanced by just not giving him another 4* for a while. he needs reward 2*s as well so you could easily just make him 2* on nene5 and call it a day. unless nene5 is october lim and then he has a good chance of being lim there instead of august. the characters we know can definitely be lim are mostly from wxs or l/n, so we've got connections there that make sense too.

alternatively yeah leoni hakolim is an option. i think the lineup is most likely to be ichika/saki/honami if this happens (or just generally though you could swap honami for a vsinger) mainly because saki cannot be reward card and leoni can't get another vsinger lim for quite a while, also this works to make shiho the anniversary lim. it opens up another opportunity to have another perm mixed event too since we skipped over a lot of slots that should've been perm mixed in order to balance unit events between WLEs. it'd be frustrating to have a fourth hakolim since april but if it happens it happens ig.

to go on a tangent (again) i've seen a lot of people predict rui/honami/mafuyu, which i think is an option but i feel like there's too much weighed against it. from a meta perspective it makes a lot of sense, like all 3 of them haven't had a lim in a while and are eligible for this gacha, plus storywise they all have connections, but that's about it. mafuyu and rui just had their kizuna and it still feels off to me that they'd give them that just before an event rather than after when they would have a more fleshed out relationship, plus honami and rui were both featured prominently in rise as one only a few months ago, and the game tends to avoid rehashing mixed event lineups so close to each other (i mean we did have minori/shiho on two mixed within 5ish months but shiho was only a small role in wedding).

yeah i think the most likely events will be leoneed hakolim or a lim banner featuring tsukasa (for money). or they could do the widely predicted rui/honami/mafuyu banner or totally pull the rug out from underneath us and do something like an ichika/nene focused event (you could probably still put tsukasa here tbh).
