Anna Held appreciation :) character from The Metal Operas 1 and 2, the familial devotion between her and Gabriel is so sweet :) girl deserved better. Anyway religious imagery, chains, and the overall vibe of “seeking” - I feel like this could have turned out better if I had drawn it larger? But yippee

Starting out in her native country Poland, Held toured Europe, appearing in Paris and London. Meeting empresario Flo Zeigfeld in London, she was convinced to move to NYC, where she became a huge star. Her first starring appearance was on Broadway in 1906/1907's "A Parisian Model". Held had 14 appearances on Broadway, from 1896 to 1917. This then led to her appearing in Ziegfeld's Follies.

Held and Ziegfeld never married, but were romantic partners from approx 1897 to 1913, around when Ziegfeld dumped Held for actress Lillian Lorraine.

During WWI, Held performed for French soldiers and raising money for the war effort. She visited the men as close to the front lines as she could get.

Anna Held died of cancer in 1918 at the age of 46.

"This beauty queen (The book is wrong, she is Anna Held) hides under a lavish cape from 1902. Long coats and skating outfits were some-times topped with a short, matching cape thrown over the shoulders. This one may have been part of a tea gown ensemble -- long loose dresses and wraps women relaxed in, without corsets, before dinner."

Grace is an important character in my Main AU and she’s even more important and prominent in my Universal Wayfarer AU, so I figured it was about time I did an into post for her!
