Sam Birds 'CV' on his website circa 2002.
2002: Well, I really thought this would be my year - I wanted to win the JICA British title and start some European racing. However, with the new regulations and the restrictor, which favours smaller, lighter boys, it was not to be. I had some silly problems in the first race, which left me trailing the championship at 17th . However, a good place in the second race put me up to 6th. Bad luck dogged me, with a black flag for "weaving" and a couple of dnfs, so I stayed in 6th place. Some fantastic drives, through the field, earning me good publicity for the first time in a long while.
Went to Garda for first ever ICA race - wow! I love this. Came 2nd and 4th in heats and 4th in final. Parma - again great results in practice and heats, but developed fever for race and finished 10th. Mind you, there were some 90+ entrants and I was the youngest!
Portugal. Qualified fourth in group. Set fastest lap in 2 heats. Sadly, didn't finish race but did enough to qualify for finals in Angerville. One of only four Brits to get through!
Did practice race in Spa, just to test engines ready for the final. Highest non=Belgian finisher by 11 positions. Finished third, almost photo finish with Thonon who went on to win European Championship!
European Championship. One DNF (shunted off) plus technical problems in two heats where I had to "nurse" kart home meant very poor qualifying position and didn't make finals. Started 15th in Federation Cup, had great drive and reliable kart this time, overtook almost one kart per lap, came in 5th.
Future: Hope to concentrate on practice for ICA in Europe/UK. This will be my route for next year and after that ……………
2001: After Common Entrance, I won a place at Charterhouse, in Godalming. Fabulous school and here they recognise karting as a sport and not just a hobby. Am on the short list for a sports scholarship. During this year I joined Ricky Flynn Motorsport and have learned a lot. Many technical problems, but also some very good results - have had a 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th in various heats/races.
2000: Still having problems persuading the school that I should be allowed to race on weekends. Could NEVER do Friday practice and had problems on Saturdays, because I was in every team for football, rugby, cricket, athletics and cross country! However, in 2000 I was joint winner of Buckmore Park Series and 2nd in winter series.
1999: After such success in Formula 6, rather a shock to enter Formula Junior Yamaha which was a leap too far. Many technical problems, plus my prep. School was unsupportive. However, see pic on this site of me ahead of di Resta - it really did happen once!
1997/8: Persuaded my parents to buy me a kart for 10th birthday present, but only used it very briefly, as I raced in Formula 6, courtesy of Sandown Karting. Won trophy almost every race. Novice trophies in first, second and third races, after that, always on podium. Once I had finished being a novice, very often came in half a lap ahead of the rest of the field.
1996/7: Still too tiny to buy a kart, so went indoor racing at Playscape in London. Won most races, even against instructors. Thanks Mike for your encouragement.
1995: Aged 8, had first lessons at Silverstone. Far too small to reach pedals but thoroughly enjoyed experience and couldn't wait to get back into a kart.

😁👍 #producteurslocaux #essonne #iledefrance #idf #madeinfrance #dourdan #mangezmieux #mangezfrançais #angerville #etampes #france (à Ile-de-France, France) https://www.instagram.com/p/CNdF_M_Jf64/?igshid=ubrtiz4fqhox

ronaldo headcanons, etc.
cuddling naked a lot.  not in a sexual way, necessarily, but simply to get as close to each other as possible.
bike ride dates, with and without the kids.  stopping for ice cream, and to feed the ducks at the pond.  laughing and sharing flavors.  and it’s a wonder that they don’t crash, for how frequently they look at each other.
a lot of sweet kissing.  on the cheeks, on the forehead, on the nose, on the lips.  the kids are never grossed out, and grow to adopt the habit, often kissing each other’s faces when they are pleased.
making meals and desserts together.  ephraim stirring the pot, aj setting the table, ronnie cutting the onions while waldo opens a can and cries, sam washing vegetables.
music nights.  (eventually, if ronaldo and the kids move into a real house and get a real piano.)  they gather around on sundays and sing songs while ronnie plays the piano.  ronnie makes sure all the kids have the opportunity to learn an instrument of their choice.

That’s the way it is...
I’ve been haunted by the ghost of someone I used to love for the past 7 years.
I don’t know whether he is literally dead, or he’s just a phantom born from my trauma. But recently the universe forced me to face that trauma and work my way through it. Forgiveness - TRUE forgiveness - can be a tricky thing to achieve. Especially when the person has hurt you in ways that left you permanently scarred. Forgiveness isn’t just a simple declaration or action. It’s a process. It’s something that you have to practice, because depending on who or what you are trying to forgive, chances are you’re not going to achieve the first, the second, even the tenth time you try. You go through phases, stages...
In the process of trying to forgive him, I've realized there’s a striking parallel between forgiveness, and processing grief. But I don’t know why that surprises me so much. Grief and trauma are so tightly entwined that the line between them is as thin as an atom.
The stages of forgiveness and the stages of processing grief are even pretty much the same. You start with denial...
“Why should I have to forgive them?”
“I don’t need to forgive them. I can’t. I won’t. I never will.”
“If I live a thousand years, I will never forgive you.”...okay you know what? You got a two for one deal with that last one, because there's a whole lot of anger in that statement too. There’s a whole lot of anger in the process of practicing forgiveness. A lot of people never get past it. But sooner or later, sometimes you realize that the anger is poisoning you. At that point, you may move on to bargaining.
“Maybe I can forgive them someday, but not now. I’m not there yet.” If you can make it this far, it’s an accomplishment, and you’re probably going stay in this phase for a while. Quite possibly very long while. And that’s okay!
Then the depression hits you like a freight train. You really do want to forgive them, for yourself if nothing else, but the traumatic memories keep coming to you. Sometimes they’re triggered by the most infinitesimal things; sometimes just completely out of nowhere. Even though you try to acknowledge that it happened a long time ago, even though you try to process it and move on, you just can’t. Those wounds might be old, but they’re still open and bleeding, and the pain feels like it really will be there forever. This experience can and probably will send you flying back to angerville. Rinse and repeat.
Acceptance is a stage a lot of people just never reach. And you know what? this is where forgiveness and processing grief differ. Sooner or later you have to accept the source of your grief. But forgiveness? That’s not always going to be possible. There are some things that just can’t be forgiven, and in those situations the mere suggestion that you should do it is tone deaf at best, and abusive at worst. Then we get into the thing that really sucks for the person who is being forgiven...
Nothing is ever going to be the same. Trust can never be unbroken. Some scars just never go away. Sometimes the pain never does either. Just because someone forgives you, it doesn’t mean they’re ever going to want you to be in their life again. And if you find yourself in the unfortunate position of being someone who is forgiven, but ever after unwelcome in someone’s life, you have to be okay with that. Sometimes that’s just the way it is. Having a prominent place in someone’s life is a gift that you should never take for granted. There are nearly 8 billion people in the world. Even if you’re the biggest social butterfly in the world, you are never going to know even a fraction of them. Losing someone you used to be close to is a tragedy. But sometimes when it happens, we only have ourselves to blame. That’s a lesson that everyone learns sooner or later, and it’s one of the most painful lessons of all.
I never thought I would be able to forgive that man. And forgiveness, much like grief, isn’t linear. Sometimes you’ll bounce back and forth between the stages so much you’ll feel like you’ve got whiplash. Such was the case for me. It took me seven years. But I think I am finally, at long last, ready to forgive him.
I don’t know if you’re dead or alive, and to be honest I’m still too afraid of you to find out. But Dan...if you’re out there, and you happen to ever read this...I forgive you. We were two people who had no idea how to be in a healthy relationship. We both hurt each other so much. It took me a really long time to accept that. I accepted it in my head almost as soon as the relationship was over, but accepting it in my heart was my Everest. I think I’ve finally reached the peak, and the view is breathtaking.
Now I really believe that we both deserve to be happy. I’m sending you all my love and wishing you all the peace and happiness in the world.
Just...maybe...find your happiness far away from me.

Folks that know Cyrano stuff umm...
Do you happen to have the James McAvoy version I could view? I purchased tickets to see it twice but my first time was thwarted by travel restraints and the next because of Covid hitting within a week give or take of seeing it in my local theater. Last time I tried to watch it was through Google Drive but I lost access to the file as it was removed by the sharer. 🙃
Of course lying awake in my bed as I fade away to dreamland I take a detour to angerville where I remember that I should be a lot more upset about more than $100 spent on something that I never got to see almost exactly an entire year ago.
I know the chances are slim and I’m fact I am aware it is generally looked down upon to ask something like this but man I basically used all my free spending money outside of my savings to see this and never got to. Yell at me if you’d like for asking. Goodnight.
