ANGER IS A GIFT

Ok, so the presidential and a lot of other really important elections in the US look like they just went way right and there are so many people rightfully angry and scared.

That being said, DO NOT PARTICIPATE IN THE BLAME GAME. This is a waste of valuable time and energy.

Your anger at these outcomes is justified but this didn't happen because your Muslim friend couldn't in good conscience vote for either of the two candidates turning a blind eye to our direct contribution to A GENOCIDE being perpetuated against their people and the destruction being done to their ancestral homelands.

And it certainly isn't the fault of the poor and disenfranchised and those that republicans have been working their asses off to disempower for literally decades: historically black, hispanic and poor neighborhoods with abysmal funding for public resources that deliberately include making it extremely difficult to vote.

It didn't happen because of those that rightly sensed the Democratic Party's lack of a spine on any serious issues we care about: giving weak promises to "fix" things they haven't bothered to fix during the last FOUR YEARS they've had in office.

We've been blue this WHOLE TIME and what has the Democratic Party done with that? Basically nothing. We still haven't codified Roe v. Wade. We've INCREASED spending on police, not decreased it. And millions of EXTREMELY vulnerable people like the working class, the disabled and certainly muslims and LGBT people are as scared as ever and they saw more regressive policies put in place against them not fewer.

The Democratic Party keeps relying on their favorite strategy: letting the opposition strip away rights so they can use that as campaign talking points but when we hand them power, THEY DO NOTHING TO FIX WHAT'S BROKEN.

My mom recently got fired up by old Rage Against the Machine music videos and I feel fired up, too. Particularly their song Freedom and its accompanying video. One of the most powerful lines in any song:

ANGER IS A GIFT.

Why?

Because anger lets you know that a wrong has been done. It gives you the will and ENERGY to find the problem and deal with it.

DO NOT WASTE THIS GIFT ON POINTING FINGERS AT YOUR ALLIES.

Who are your allies?

Your fellow leftists. Your poor and working class neighbors. And more than anything else, the marginalized that keep getting used, abused, and dismissed by our broken systems.

We need to build and strengthen aid and support networks and our connections with people we care about. The government after this election has been fully hijacked by the rich and powerful, the regressive and the ignorant.

BUT!

There are organizations all over the country that are passionate about doing what's right for those people who are consistently wronged by the systems in place.

I live in the deep south, in a rural town in East Texas. And even here, there is a small organization that's mostly just one woman calling and fighting insurance companies for medications for low income families. There are food pantries and a great local library. A larger nearby city, within an hour's drive, has a planned parenthood and a small LGBT community.

FIND THESE ORGANIZATIONS or start building them yourself and PUT ALL OF YOUR ANGER AND YOUR ENERGY toward HELPING EACH OTHER. Build mutual aid and support the efforts that already exist around you to help, support and protect the real lives of real people within your existing communities, both near and far.

Start or join online communities of support and mutual aid. We will not make it through another Trump presidency by attacking each other. The systems are what's broken so lets fix it or build new and fight like hell against the people trying to break those positive systems down, whether they carry a blue flag or a red one. We can't recast votes for these elections, we can only do what we can to help and protect one another. That's all we had before this, too, but I think this makes it clearer than ever.

And lastly, please reach out to those you know will be the most scared by this outcome and be their shoulder for crying or their ear for listening and then stand up together and start taking action to make things better.

this is in direct response to this post... made a separate post because i needed some time to compose my thoughts and didn't want to hijack yours, @luciferstit.

so... studio BONES actually made ???% angrier than he was in the manga, and particularly so with reigen.

LOOK AT THIS THING. that chunk of pulverized city shown here is a rock about the size of an eyeball a fist on the page.

given the trauma shigeo has been through -- that reigen has unwittingly and knowingly put him through -- over the years of their acquaintance, i struggle to blame ???%.

too many reigen stans try to handwave shigeo getting paid in pocket change for his exorcism work. (too. fucking. many, and that's another post for another time.) this alone is cruel AF. whether or not the boy is old enough to do this kind of work legally, can do it with relative ease, or even needs the money. it's cruel.

do y'all really not see how paying him less than $3/hr -- when he's too young to advocate properly for his needs and rights -- for labor that occasionally threatens his life and keeps him socially isolated makes things worse? shigeo was eleven when they met.

while reigen undercharging for his services might come from a good place, his kindness (at least with his clients) and his profit motive intersect in a way that is destructive to himself and anyone he employs. shigeo gets caught up in this man's cycle of self-loathing financial self-abuse and suffers direct harm as a result.

i never found this shit funny. apparently ???% doesn't either.

the keiji mogami arc, OMFG. honestly, this needs its own post, but six months of daily torment at the hands of a petty, vengeful spirit who brought his woes upon himself? certain death in minori's body had ???% not resurrected him and returned his soul to its rightful place? starving spirits eat shigeo alive in there. this is harrowing even in the anime, which toned down much of the source material's brutality. (the manga ghosts rip him apart, limb by bloody limb, and chew him to pieces while he's conscious. i can only hope he feels no pain...) reigen put him in this situation too, and ???%'s anger at having to clean up here as well is fully, fully justified. 'mob' might forgive, but ???% is holding him accountable.

when reigen's throwback website ushers in new business, reigen takes it upon himself to use this boy to the fullest. the story treats us to a two or three-day span of time where reigen literally works this boy late into the night, taking on client after client... and dumps the consequences of his irresponsibility straight into shigeo's lap (missing dinner and losing sleep before school the next morning. need i mention the boy is already anemic? this is all kinds of NOT OK).

those clients from hell i wouldn't have entertained the first time they approached? the next time they show up, shigeo spends another long night at their mercy: the aforementioned clients pressure him so hard to abandon his morals that he has a panic attack before reigen finally does the right thing. there isn't enough soba in the world to atone for that.

when shigeo protests reigen's ungodly habit of calling him at the last minute for work yet again after missing out on his friends' birthday celebration... and reigen lashes out at him? tells him

his friends aren't real,

that he needs to abandon them in favor of his poorly-paid exorcism job because reigen alone knows what's best for him?

because he needs reigen in order to help him control his powers stay sane?

this is UGLY but human, and so, so not out of character. anyone who has been in shigeo's place will understand just how poisonous -- and sadly common -- this actually is. these are the same blundering but often effective strategies employed by lonely family members and abusive romantic partners to keep people from rightfully deserting them. the teenager putting his foot down and walking away is arguably ???%'s first conscious emergence in this story... in a very healthy fashion.

keep in mind: their eventual reconciliation and reigen wising up as a mentor, boss and friend for a few months don't absolve literal years of mistreatment. not in the eyes of ???%. ???% wants this man's head on a stick.

if that rock above and ???%'s bloodlust for/indifference to reigen aren't enough of a sign that those insults in the first episode of this series weren't exactly sliding off the boy's back?

that shigeo has been seething for a long, long time over reigen's casual cruelty to him?

republicans only care about money and power

The GOP wonders why young people (and others) don't want to vote for them. Some wise scribe assembled this list.

1.) Your Reagan-era “trickle-down economics” strategy of tax breaks for billionaires that you continue to employ to this day has widened the gap between rich and poor so much that most of them will never be able to own a home, much less earn a living wage.

2.) You refuse to increase the federal minimum wage, which is still $7.25 an hour (since 2009). Even if it had just kept up with inflation, it would be $27 now. You’re forcing people of all ages but especially young people to work multiple jobs just to afford basic necessities.

3.) You fundamentally oppose and want to kill democracy; have done everything in your power to restrict access to the ballot box, particularly in areas with demographics that tend to vote Democratic (like young people and POC). You staged a fucking coup the last time you lost.

4.) You have abused your disproportionate senate control over the last three decades to pack the courts with religious extremists and idealogues, including SCOTUS—which has rolled back rights for women in ways that do nothing but kill more women and children and expand poverty.

5.) You refuse to enact common sense gun control laws to curb mass shootings like universal background checks and banning assault weapons; subjecting their entire generation to school shootings and drills that are traumatizing in and of themselves. You are owned by the NRA.

6.) You are unequivocally against combatting climate change to the extent that it’s as if you’ve made it your personal mission to ensure they inherit a planet that is beyond the point of no return in terms of remaining habitable for the human race beyond the next few generations.

7.) You oppose all programs that provide assistance to those who need it most. Your governors refused to expand Medicaid even during A PANDEMIC. You are against free school lunches, despite it being the only meal that millions of children can count on to actually receive each day

8.) You are banning books, defunding libraries, barring subject matter, and whitewashing history even more in a fascistic attempt to keep them ignorant of the systemic racism that this nation was literally founded upon and continues to this day in every action your party takes.

9.) You oppose universal healthcare and are still trying to repeal the ACA and rip healthcare from tens of millions of Americans and replace it with nothing. You are against lowering the cost of insulin and prescription drugs that millions need simply to LIVE/FUNCTION in society.

10.) You embrace white nationalists, Neo-Nazis, and other groups that are defined by their intractable racism, xenophobia, bigotry, and intolerance. You conspired with these groups on January 6th to try to overthrow the U.S. government via domestic terrorism that KILLED PEOPLE.

11.) You oppose every bill aimed at making life better for our nation’s youth; from education to extracurricular and financial/nutritional assistance programs. You say you want to “protect the children” while you elect/nominate pedophiles and attack trans youth and drag queens.

12.) You pretend to be offended by “anti-semitism” while literally supporting, electing, and speaking at events organized by Nazis. You pretend to hate “cancel culture” despite the fact that you invented it and it’s basically all you do.

13.) Every word you utter is a lie. You are the party of treason, hypocrisy, crime, and authoritarianism. You want to entrench rule by your aging minority because you know that you have nothing to offer young voters and they will never support you for all these reasons and more.

14.) You’re so hostile to even the notion of helping us overcome the mountain of debt that millions of us are forced to take on just to pay for our post K-12 education that you are suing to try to prevent a small fraction of us from getting even $10,000 in loan forgiveness.

15.) You opened the floodgates of money into politics via Citizens United; allowing our entire system of government to become a cesspool of corruption, crime, and greed. You are supposed to represent the American people whose taxes pay your salary but instead cater to rich donors.

16.) You respond to elected representatives standing in solidarity with their constituents to protest the ONGOING SLAUGHTER of children in schools via shootings by EXPELLING THEM FROM OFFICE & respond to your lack of popularity among young people by trying to raise the voting age.

17.) You impeach Democratic presidents over lying about a BJ but refuse to impeach (then vote twice to acquit) a guy whose entire “administration” was an international crime syndicate being run out of the WH who incited an insurrection to have you killed.

18.) You steal Supreme Court seats from democrats to prevent the only black POTUS we’ve ever had from appointing one and invent fake precedents that you later ignore all to take fundamental rights from Americans; and even your “legitimate” appointments consist of people like THIS (sub-thread refuting CJ Roberts criticisms of people attacking SCOTUS’ legitimacy).

19.) You support mass incarceration even for innocuous offenses or execution by cop for POC while doing nothing but protect rich white criminals who engage in such things as tax fraud, money laundering, sex trafficking, rape/sexual assault, falsifying business records, etc.

20.) You are the reason we can’t pass:—Universal background checks—An assault weapons ban—The ‘For the People/Freedom to vote’ Act or John Lewis Voting Rights Act—The ERA & Equality Act—The Climate Action Now Act—The (Stopping) Violence Against Women Act—SCOTUS expansion.

21.) You do not seek office to govern, represent, or serve the American people. You seek power solely for its own sake so you can impose your narrow-minded puritanical will on others at the expense of their most fundamental rights and freedoms like voting and bodily autonomy.

22.) Ok, last one. You are trying to eliminate social security and Medicare that tens of millions of our parents rely on and paid into their entire lives. And you did everything to maximize preventable deaths from COVID leaving millions of us in mourning.

truth serum / system reveal au where shen qingqiu gets hit with an uncloaking spell that reveals the system in the reflection of his eyes every time it pops up.

during one of his missions, in the treasure hoard of some dragon-like creature, he finds a golden, oval shaped hand mirror, its gaudy style more victorian based than anything (airplane you hack!), that doesn't seem to do anything when he looks into it. but when he does, it reveals the system's screen in his eyes.

he doesn't notice this, of course, because he can't see it, and the system, surprisingly, stays quiet.

the peak lords think he's cursed.

maybe mu qingfang is the first to notice, during the mandatory post mission check-up, when shen qingqiu is scrolling through his most recently accumulated points and mu qingfang can see the strange vividly-blue lines reflected in his pupils. it's gone when shen qingqiu blinks, like it was nothing but a trick of the light.

it comes out when yue qingyuan is visiting and, just as he's done laying out the plans for a new mission, shen qingqiu's eyes glaze over and a bright blue box takes over the whole of his iris. shen qingqiu goes quiet; the thing in his eyes moves, shifts, pulses for a second, like static worms crawling all over his pupils. then he blinks, and it's gone, and shen qingqiu accepts the mission that yue qingyuan was almost sure he would decline.

maybe there is an intervention, when the peak lords corner shen qingqiu at qian cao peak and try to figure out what's wrong, subjecting him to all kinds of treatments and curse-finding spells that turn up empty, they can't find anything.

of course, the silencing threat is still very much up and running. at first shen qingqiu was kind of confused by the whole ordeal, but when the peak lords start describing a "strange blue box", he realizes, with sickening suddenty, that they're describing the system. and he can't say anything.

this only makes everything worse, because their fellow peak lord now keeps evading every question and acts like he doesn't understand. liu qingge points right at his face and asks, "that blue box, what is it?" and shen qingqiu laughs nervously and starts talking about how bright the weather is and surely it's the sky and nothing to worry about!

even worse, during the intervention the system thought it was a good idea to start talking to him, so now even the peak lords who hadn't seen it and who might have been persuaded by light tricks and reflections, get a first row view that no, that definitely isn't a trick of the light.

they try to do the whole thing of "are you in danger, blink twice" but shen qingqiu can't even do that because it's still a direct admittance!

maybe eventually he starts saying vague confirmations that don't actually confirm anything, like "this master hears what you're saying", or maybe he goes with a classic "this master can neither confirm nor deny that." but the system starts warning him for that too and eventually he stops saying anything, which worries the others more.

luckily mu qingfang catches on that every time they ask a direct question about the box or shen qingqiu says anything vaguely confirming, it appears. it doesn't appear when they ask about curses or demons, so it must not see that as a threat.

for a little extra angst: maybe the peak lords keep pressuring him for answers, and at some point shen qingqiu gets fed up and snaps out something like, "why don't you understand that i'm not allowed to answer that!" the system counts this as a direct admittance, threatening it's existence. so it punishes. shen qingqiu has a qi deviation so bad it lasts two weeks and takes two people every day to cleanse his meridians. the system doesn't appear in that time. it doesn't appear for a long while after that, either. the peak lords stop asking, mainly because shen qingqiu will instantly leave the room if they do. they don't stop searching for a cure, though.

shang qinghua returns from a business trip and catches on the second someone mentions a blue box and forced silencing.
