I have an idea for an Andromaquynh modern AU fanfic

In it, Quynh moves back home to her parents after getting a degree at university she isn't really sure she can or wants to use. She used to think that she's a city girl despising the suburbs she grew up in, but now she thinks she was wrong about that or maybe her preferences changed, she doesn't much like the cities she studied in anymore, first she thinks it's because she studied abroad (in the countries of her ancestors) and could never quite connect to the culture there, but visiting a friend in a city in her home country shows her it isn't just that, she just prefers a quieter environment

In the meantime, her parents have moved to a different part of town and it doesn't really feel like coming home at all. Quynh still struggles with her place in life, she doesn't want to hang around on her parents' couch doing nothing forever but she doesn't know what else to do either and the thought of a regular 9-5 job in an office terrifies her, she has done enough internships in that kind of environment to know she can't stand it for long

Quynh starts taking long walks through the countryside, for her health because she hasn't really found any sports/active hobbies in the area yet (that's an aspect she really liked about the cities, there's always something interesting going on, she used to dance and try out things like shooting with bow&arrow and axe throwing), and to have quiet time to think away from her family. That way she gets to know the area quite well - she actually already knows it a bit because she really didn't live far away as a kid, but she never really walked through the fields on this side of the suburbs before

On her walks she sometimes comes across equestrians, and one time a horse throws off its rider and she ends up catching the animal, which doesn't seem to mind people in general just people trying to climb and sit on it - it won't stay the last time she comes across that particular animal, and she thinks she understands the horse quite well what with not wanting to do jobs they don't like just to be allowed to live comfortably.

Andy's the owner of the horse riding school, and when a girl falls off her horse (probably the one that doesn't much like its riders, Quynh calls it Big Guy lovingly not knowing what it's actually called) and needs medical attention, Quynh ends up taking the horse back to the stables and meets Andy there.

There's a bit of an age-gap between them and even once they meet and fall in love Andy is reluctant to commit to Quynh out of fear of tying Quynh to a life she might not really want, meanwhile Quynh is finally figuring out her place in life and she wants to stay with Andy.

I'll probably never write the full fanfic, I just don't have the time and motivation for it. If anyone's interested in getting the draft and adopting it, I'd love to hand it over for you to write it!

The draft I have is pretty much in bullet points atm, but I'd even go over it and clean it up a bit if someone's really interested in adopting the fic, and I'd be open to either chatting about it and giving more input, or you taking it and doing your own thing with it!

I don't have the time to write a longfic atm and I feel like what with the plot I'm thinking of, it really needs to be 10 or even 20k minimum to start doing it justice... That being said if sb wants to try writing a shorter version or is inspired by it to write anything similar, absolutely feel free! Just pls lmk once it's done so I can read it :D

I also already wrote a college AU horse girl!Andy longfic before, and while that one was happier and this one would probably have quite some angsty vibes before reaching its happy ending, it still kind of feels like I've done this before, also reducing my motivation for it even more :( which is a pity really because I do really like the idea.

Fanfic writing asks, 4 and 74?

Hello, thank you for asking!

4) How do you choose which fics to write? Honestly I get so few ideas that I pretty much write every single one. I don't necessarily finish them (or at least I haven't finished them all yet), but I at least start writing them.

74) Do you have a fic you wish got a bit more love? ...all of them? I posted something the other day about having a small readership (in the context of the fandom I write in) so of course I'd love more readers in general. But if I have to pick just one, I'll go with "axis mundi". It is my least-read actual fic (the only ones with fewer hits are a collection of ficlets I wrote for a Halloween event and a shitpost fic that is still technically anonymous.) I wrote "axis mundi" as a Secret Santa gift, and it's a soft little post-canon Andromaquynh fic that's only been read by like a hundred people (but with 25 kudos and 4 bookmarks, which I think is really good for so few hits, I am kissing you all on the forehead I love you).

“Are you sure about this?” Andy asked one more time. The tone of her voice was purposefully nonchalant, because the last thing she wanted was to offend the other woman. But there was no denying in the apprehension displayed on the gentle and concerned frown on her face.

“Yes,” Quynh sighed gravely, “I will get on with my life, Andromache. I must.”

Andy nodded, and offered an encouraging smile. She knew very well that Quynh was exactly the type of woman to get over her fears even if just out of spite. In fact, was this just fear of water? I would make perfect sense, all things considered. But that night, as the two of them walked over to the pool of the hotel they were staying in, Andy had a feeling that Quynh wasn’t just scared. She was angry, furious at the water, as if it had been the one to personally wrong her. Maybe she wasn’t ready to dive into the ocean, maybe she wouldn’t be for a long time. But she looked at the pool as if she was about to defeat it in battle. Andy knew maybe this wasn’t the moment to think about how attractive Quynh looked, with fiery determination in her eyes and a blood red one piece swimsuit, but the thought was in the back of her mind of course.

Quynh sighed again, this time it was lighter, trembling, betraying her confidence. "Hold my hand?" she extended her right arm to Andy.

"Always," Andy said with a smile. However, she moved even closer and wrapped her left arm around her lover's waist, holding her close, and grabbing her hand with her own right hand. 

Slowly but surely they walked together until they reached the edge of the pool. Andy lowered herself to the first step and looked up at Quynh with an encouraging smile. Holding her breath, Quynh followed suit, her feet submerged and goosebumps raising all over her skin.

"All good?" Andy asked.

"I've taken baths already, Andromache, I can handle this," Quynh attempted a chuckle, and very slowly followed Andy step by step into the water.

But then they reached the bottom. The water reached their waists and if they continued walking it'll get deeper each time. Quynh had closed her eyes at some point, and her hold on Andy's hand was really tight.

"Open your eyes," Andy whispered, holding her closer, "Remember that you are here, safe, with me. I won't leave you alone ever again."

Quynh opened her eyes, but she didn't look at the pool around her, she focused on Andy's eyes. "Is it wrong..." she whsipered tentavily, her voice was trembling, her words vulnerable, "that I sometimes wished you would have been there with me?" There wasn't need to further explain with words what she meant. They understood perfectly all it meant.

"Not at all," Andy shook her head lightly and placed her hand on Quynh's neck, "I wish I would have taken your place entirely."

Feeling a knot on her throat with the way the conversation was going, Quynh managed a smile and, bringing them back to the present she said, "I want to swim."

"Are you sure?" Andy immediately asked, taking a cautious step back.

"With your help, I'm sure I'll be fine," Quynh took a deep breath and gave Andy one of those smiles that would convince her anything at all was possible.

And it was possible. They walked around the pool for a little while, until Quynh started to loosen her hold on Andy's hand and stopped feeling like her heart might burst out of her chest. After she managed to float once or twice, with Andy always there making her feel entirely safe, never letting go, Quynh started to feel at peace. Before... just before, she used to love the water. She was a great swimmer, and it wouldn't have been fair that she'd have to give that up for eternity. She wouldn't allow that.

It felt pretty much like a miracle, every moment they spent together in the water, holding each other, letting go only briefly, swimming togehter, floating with each other. Andy couldn't remember a more pleasant feeling than Quynh’s smile, her black hair wet around that glowing face. It was a testament to how comfortable Quynh was starting to feel in the water when she pushed Andy to one end of the pool, and wrapped her legs around her waist, holding her lover to keep her afloat. Andy would have marveled at the meaning of it all, if she hadn't been thoroughly distracted by Quynh running her fingers through her hair, connecting their lips together, letting her hands start a little argument with Andy's black swimsuit.

That night, the stars and the moon that watched them love each other all over the world through centuries, that watched them be torn apart of each other and suffer and mourn for centuries too. They watched the two immortal lovers reunited, find love and joy and strength once more. Quynh was getting back her life, and Andy too, since she got back her love.

Modern/no powers AU where Andy is a famous actress who's constantly stressed and Quynh a writer with mental health issues, her works just starting to gain international attention, they get together over hating the same annoying producers and managers, they go on dates and dancing and Quynh introduces Andy to her family and Andy introduces her to her friends and they are So In Love, they talk about everything and anything, they even talk about marriage a few time, about how Quynh doesn't think it's necessary because there's no reason for it apart from like saving taxes or something, divorce rates say pretty obviously that marriage does not mean forever, but she's not entirely opposed to it, and Andy says she'd just love to call someone her wife one day-

Andy has anger issues (that get worse when she's stressed, which is all the time) that she's working on but she doesn't want to go to therapy because she thinks she's handling it and she doesn't like the thought of trusting a stranger like that, but one day when she's snapping at Quynh for no reason Quynh tells her she needs to get help or the next time it happens she's walking away for her own mental health. Andy doesn't go to therapy because she's a stubborn bitch, and for a while it still works because the knowledge that Quynh would leave her is a pretty good incentive to be better, but, well, it's not doing anything to get to the source of the problem and-

They've been together for several years at that point, they're basically married already and Quynh tells her that she's going to love And forever and that she would marry her if she wants that, and Andy says she just wants to call her her wife, they don't need any official bullshit, and anyways Quynh is right that they will be together forever as long as they both want that, marriage or no, and then Quynh calls her her wife and ravages her-

But then one day, Andy snaps again, and it's about something really stupid, and she knows it's not Quynh's fault, but she says something that's below the belt and she knows it and the moment she looks in Quynh's face she knows she fucked up and that this is the moment she lost Quynh.

Quynh leaves, because she promised herself she wouldn't stay in a relationship that's hurting her- she doesn't think Andy's a bad person, not really, she's not manipulative or doing it to hurt her on purpose, she just has some issues- except that she knows Andy knew she had these issues, and what does it mean that she never got help even when Quynh asked her to? But she also knows that Andy is afraid of opening up to someone, that she tried the best to be better without therapy, and Quynh still loves her So Fucking much, she just can't deal with someone shouting at her like that, so she knows she made the right decision, ending it-

They 'stay friends' in public and say that they just broke up because they took jobs in different parts of the worlds, Quynh wants Andy to have a fresh start, and she doesn't want to be known as some domestic violence victim either, because she knows that's what the press would paint it as. But they don't really meet unless they have to for public functions, where they make amicable small talk and don't talk about anything of importance at all, and Quynh fiercely misses the way they had been able to talk about absolutely everything...

But the distance is still good for her. She focuses on her career, publishes books and gets to write for TV Series, and the being in different places physically isn't a lie or a pretence anymore at all...

Until one day, years later, she runs into her at a Gala ball. Well, into Andy's new girlfriend. She asks about her- she can't not- and the younger woman grumbles something about Andy treating her with kid gloves and how she can't stand that sometimes, and Quynh can't help feeling a little gleeful that that relationship looks like it's about to crumble, not because she wouldn't want Andy to be happy, she really does, but because this ungrateful little thing doesn't /deserve/ her-

And then she really does run into Andy, and it's awkward for a moment but then they get talking, Andy tells her she went to therapy before she even started dating again at all and that she's happy for Quynh's success, Quynh tells her she saw her in a movie a while back and did she get along with some producer better this time around, and when the girlfriend is mentioned Andy groans and is like 'yeah we're kind of dating but I should've broken up with her already, she just really wanted to go to this Gala and she's here as my date so I figured it'd be kinda cruel to break up with her before that' and Quynh can't help laughing and points out that maybe she should do it now, then, because it looks like the girl is making eyes at some singer, so Andy goes and Quynh can't hear what they're saying, but she sees them hug and laugh and it looks a lot more like a breakup where two people stay friends afterwards than the one between her and Andy had felt like. And then Quynh decides to be brave and asks Andy to dance.

It feels just like the old times. They dance wildly and gracefully and they have everyone's eyes on them and don't even care- until Quynh sees that Andy is a little misty-eyed, and she asks what's wrong, and Andy is like 'fuck, I have you in my arms again after so long and I was never really over you that's wrong' and Quynh asks her whether she wants to get out of there.

They end up on Andy's couch, because she's actually living in the city of the ball at the moment, and Quynh looks through her new apartment, it's not at all what you would expect from someone with Andy's salary, but then again Andy keeps handing out money for good causes like candy and this place is very much Her. They end up cuddling on the couch and when Quynh tries to kiss her Andy tells her that she doesn't think she can do it if this is just going to be a one time thing. And Quynh tells her that she never stopped loving her and that she is going to stay with her, forever, as long as Andy really did go to therapy and won't shout at her again. Andy says she actually still is seeing a therapist, as well as taking boxing classes, and she won't promise anything because she doesn't trust herself like that after what happened before, but that she is going to try her best and she hadn't had a problem with her anger issues in years. Then, Quynh kisses her, and they somehow make it into the bedroom, and maybe they're moving too fast but on the other hand it feels like they've just been on a three year long break and are finally together again.

The next morning, half awake, Quynh murmurs thoughtfully how maybe it was good that they never really married at the time. And Andy flinches a little, although she agrees because she wouldn't have wanted Quynh to stay in a situation that was bad for her, and she really did need the therapy. But then Quynh explains that she actually meant that while they were never officially married, they had done their promises to each other and called themselves married, and Quynh never considered that marriage annulled, and she's glad that they weren't formally married because then she probably would have felt the need to get a divorce to make a point about distance, but she 'probably would have kept the ring, or something', and then Andy is crying, and they are hugging and Quynh kisses her soundly before she pulls back and asks Andy whether she wants her to marry her for real this time. Andy can't stop smiling and tells her she's going to get her a ring then, and Quynh laughs and says really her ring example from earlier was a bad idea because she'd just lose a ring, and Andy says alright I'll just have to get you a ring for every outfit, with different stones (no diamonds because those are evil anyway), and then she'll always have one of the rings Andy got for her, and Quynh nods and says yes but they've got to get matching golden wedding rings, even if she won't wear hers all too often.

She's happy, she's elated, and on the next day they hang out with Nicky and Joe who are some of their mutual friends from /before/, who honestly hadn't seen that much of either of them in the past few years because neither wanted to steal the friendgroup from the other, and everyone is happy that they figured their shut out.

Quynh goes back to her hotel in the evening grinning kind of stupidly- she has things to arrange, she and Andy compared their schedules for the next year and they can be in Europe together for several months without major changes to either of their plans, mainly because Andy is working less so she'll be less stressed, and Quynh is just so fucking /happy/.

In the lobby, Nicky calls her and she thinks she must have forgotten something at their place, but it's not that. Andy was in an accident.

Quynh is at the hospital as quickly as possible, Andy is in surgery, she was hit by a car and Quynh thinks that it's her fault, it must have been her fault that Andy wasn't focusing on the street, until the guys arrive and Joe tells her that a drunk guy hit her with his car on the damn sidewalk. Then Andy is out of surgery, and they don't want to let her in or tell her anything until Joe tells her that she's Andy's fucking fiancé and he knows for a fact that the male fiancé of a girl had been allowed to visit her in the same hospital (which isn't even a lie) and do they all want to get sued for homophobia.

They tell Quynh that Andy's body is fixed and there probably won't be any lasting damage, but that her head was hit and she's in a coma, and it all depends on whether or not and when she is going to wake up.

Quynh stays at Andy's bedside for hours, she's the only one they're letting in so Nicky and Joe are camping out on the waiting room like chairs in the hallway and manage to get Quynh to at least eat and drink a little when she inevitably has to walk past them to go to the bathroom. She isn't leaving Andy's side for long though, staying up all night at her bedside talking to her, telling her that she can't do that to her when they have only just gotten back together, that she can't do that to her /period/, that she was- is! going to buy her these rings she promised her and that they have a goddamn wedding to plan, okay? And that 'if you're listening and you can in any way influence this, then get better! You need to! I need you, okay, I barely managed when we weren't together, I only did because I knew it was the right thing to do and that we both needed the break, and I threw myself into my work but honestly I wouldn't be able to do that forever! And I was okay because I knew you were okay, so don't do this to me! You've got to wake up, Andy, please-" and in-between these rants she tells Andy all about her life during the past few years, what she's missed, all the little things she had wanted to tell Andy about when they had happened but couldn't, and she's crying but she doesn't even notice anymore, just holding Andy's hand and telling her to please give her some sign that she's in there, that she's listening- and at some point in the morning, it's still pretty dark outside, she feels Andy weakly squeeze her hand, and for a moment she thinks she imagined it, but then Andy squeezes her hand again, not quite so weak this time, and Quynh keeps talking to her under tears until Andy finally opens her eyes.

Meanwhile, Quynh's mom is surprised that Joe answers Quynh's phone explaining that Quynh is in the hospital with Andy, no no she's alright, she's just with Andy who was in an accident, and yes they were broken up or on a break or something but yes he's fairly certain they're together again. He feels kinda bad after that because he doesn't know whether he was supposed to tell people and of that, he was just too tired to think, and Nicky has to reassure him that no Quynh and Andy would never hate him, and in the end the two women are actually glad because the way the rumor spreads everywhere saves them a lot of work of telling people that they're together while Andy is still in a hospital.

They plan their wedding while Andy's injuries heal, and Quynh tells her to wear that dress she knows she likes but Andy knows Quynh likes her best in a suit so she wants to wear a suit, and in the end they decide on a suit for Andy and a dress for Quynh for the ceremony and to switch for the party afterwards so Quynh can twirl Andy around properly for their first dance....

And then Andy gets better and they do get married and they live happily ever after!!!!!

Oh. my. gosh adsfghjkl! I Love love love this, also i know this is a meme but I feel like Andy would 100% do this?? She's used to sleeping in stables- hell, she's used to not sleeping in buildings at all, so of course she would share body warmth with a horse, and inevitably get used to it...

So in modern times, when she gets a new favorite horse somehow... Quynh will just have to get used to it again xD

Okay so here is a story about me and tog fandom. So I watch the movie and I start looking through the Nile tag, and I see a fanfic. Now, this fanfic is tagged “the b**k of Nile”. I think “oh cool, like a saga of Nile, the phrasing is kinda evocative of religious texts, the idea of this immortal figure finding her way through the world”. And then I read it. And you know what it was about. And I was very disappointed.

14 and 19 for end of year fanfic asks!

14. a fic you didn't expect to write

Most of them? "Iron & Oxygen" (Quỳnh rescuing a captured Andy) was a kinkmeme prompt I posted because I didn't want to write it, but I wrote it anyway months later. The TOG Round Robin was a late-night impulsive realization that no one else was going to make a round robin I could join, so I'd have to organize it myself. The original idea for "Guiding You Through" --my fic about Nicky getting hit with truth serum on Booker's first mission back, and Booker having some uncomfortable revelations-- was a comedy about truth-serumed Nicky being able to answer literally any question with an in-depth but unhelpful answer about Joe. I needed someone needed to bear witness, though, and then the implications of Nicky having to confess things while Booker watches helplessly on his very first mission back took it a completely different way. And then Quỳnh only came in because I wanted to post it for the Ohana-thon, so the fic is very, very far from the original idea.

19. any new fics to start next year

It depends on the definition of "new." I write fast, messy, nearly incoherent first drafts (or partial drafts) and then usually rewrite the whole thing as the first edit, which is why I said I'd be quick posting my multi-chapter fic "Scene by Scene" with its first draft completed in 2020, but it's taken nearly a year to make it through 11 of 22 chapters.

According to my WIP spreadsheet, I have 20 TOG WIPs that range from a few lines to ideas that grew out of control to three that "just" need editing. That doesn't include the Round Robin chapter 6 and the Andromaquynh secret Santa fic that I haven't started. I should probably do one of those WIP ask memes at some point, because it's ridiculous.

(I also have at least as many non-TOG fics listed in the spreadsheet, but some are like a decade old. "Only" needing editing, I have a Tenet fic that I've been sitting on for a year but I'm really proud of it, a Clint/Coulson MCU fic in the same 'verse as my lone MCU fic on AO3, and a few others.)

as always, i’m a bit late to the party, but it’s still 2020 somewhere, right? thanks so much for tagging me @lilolilyr​ and @jackwolfskid !

2020 was actually the year i first picked up drawing as a hobby (i got procreate at the beginning of jan and started experimenting) and it was super fun to go through my own stuff and think about how my style has developed over the past year 

here are 5 works i liked  - 

(1) wolf!geralt and jaskier (jan) - this is one of my oldest works and it’s the only early one i still really like, mostly because it has inspired some amazing fanfic and headcanons. it’s also where you start seeing traces of my current art style with the slightly messier strokes and some very, very gingerly applied rim lighting 

(2) modern/future au geraskier (apr) - i don’t usually do angst but watching people in the fandom react to this one was very entertaining. i actually ended up adding a fix-it sequel piece because angst is best served with a happy ending 

(3) the amazing devil band poster (apr) - the tad album got me through two lockdowns and for that alone i love them! this one is also one of my favourites in terms of colour palette, i still do some variation of these colours quite often, most recently in my the old guard joenicky piece  

(4) 90s boyband jaskier (dec) - yes, it’s completely ridiculous joke art but i had so much fun drawing this and i did also get some slightly more respectable looking lockscreens out of it 

(5) andromaquynh from ancient rome to 2020 (dec) - i’m just very, very soft for these two and loved drawing this. i’m also really happy with how the bust turned out! 

+ honorary mention: lullabies and firelight (sep) - i don’t have any strong feelings about the piece itself but i posted this in the middle of the two most horrible, stomach-turning and painful weeks of this year and reading everyone’s nice comments really cheered me up when everything was going completely wrong. thank you so much, everyone!

Ot3 fake-dating fanfic idea:

Your main character has a top secret job that they have to travel a lot for - when asked by their date why they had to leave in a hurry, in a panic they said it's because they're actually poly/ in an open relationship and have to go home to their partner. They don't expect to get a second date after that, but lo and behold actually the date calls back and over time they get into a mostly long-distance relationship - in which the lies about their 'other relationship' quickly pile up...

Now the date wants to meet the other partner, maybe because the main character made them seem much too nice - and now they have to pretend to be in a relationship with their co-worker....

Please @ me if anybody writes this, no matter the fandom!

My top post results almost got skewed by memeing to 1 thing again! Not as badly as last year with 100% ESC content, but Goncharov definitely made it in xD even though I made most of the posts, all the non Katya/Sofia ones rly, on sideblogs... Thankfully lmao! Also # N°2!!!

Apropos top hashtags, x is my tag to separate rambling from search tags so that's obviously on a lot of posts... & It's cool that Andromaquynh is apparently still my most blogged about, or at least most tagged, ship! Though that it's the only ship in the top 10 is also rather fascinating

I was gonna say ExcUse YOu tumblr, I gave 2 gifts this year??? Then realized it might have been from a different account

Anyway I gave crabs twice, I wanted to give someone checkmarks for her birthday the second time but that wasn't possible so crabs it was!

I also got a gift once this year, at least I think it was this year? Some months back anyway I got ad-free tumblring for a month!

TOG Soulmate AU

I have an idea for a femslash-centric story that I’ll never write, so if someone else wants to, feel free, just credit this post and let me know so I can read it!

It’s a soulmate AU – either with soul-marks or just knowing or any other type of soulmate trope that would work… Either way, a soul-bond is this guarantee that your relationship can work out, but it doesn’t force you to go for it either if you’re happy without it or you are already in a fulfilling relationship with someone else. You can be with other people who aren't your soulmates, and people often have more than one soulmate and they don't get together with all or sometimes any of them. A soul-bond just points to a few people you can be happy with for certain, not to all of them.

Quỳnh and Andromache aren’t soulmates.

It never stops them from being together. They still fall in love, they are partners, and they consider the both of them being immortal far more important to any soul bond...

Maybe they have mortal soulmates from time to time, sometimes staying with them, sometimes not... When they do stay, the soul bond is always right, and the relationship works out perfectly fine, but they always return to each other afterwards.

Lykon finds a mortal soulmate to give his all to, and then, when his soulmate is gone, he dies. Quỳnh and Andromache bury him next to his soulmate and promise each other never to get so lost in someone else that they would forget what they have with each other.

Joe and Nicky are soulmates, and they want to hate each other at first regardless of that. Andromache and Quỳnh laugh at them. Not only are the soul bonds always right – but do they really plan to spend infinity hating each other? That would be a silly waste of energy and time, when there are so many better things that can be done and enjoyed together…

While Quỳnh is in the ocean, Andromache meets mortal soulmates three times. The first two, she doesn't seek out, in fact hides when one of them tries to go looking for her. She’s sure that they could have been good together, that perhaps they could have even helped her with her grief, but – she doesn’t want any help, she doesn’t want to forget Quỳnh, she wants her back and no-one else. The third one is Achilles, and maybe Andromache has just given up on her search, maybe she thinks Quỳnh must be dead by now, but for whatever reason, she stays with him. And it is nice, the soulbond never lies, but – he is mortal, and a few decades later, she has two lovers and an entire family to grieve.

Booker was soulmates with his wife, and he comes from a culture and time where people believe their soulmates are god's plan for them, where people without soulmate and those with several are shunned, and the ones who choose to live with someone else but their soulmate are considered even worse. He doesn't believe the immortals when they tell him he will meet other soulmates in time, and that he can be happy again regardless. Andy and Booker especially take some time to warm up to each other because he can't believe she's grieving so much for a woman she wasn't soul-bonded to.

And then Quỳnh is back, and Andy is scared, because Quỳnh is traumatised and angry and they're not soulmates and there's no guarantee that this thing between them will work out again, but she loves Quỳnh so much and she wants to be there for her and she wants to try-

But then Quỳnh is soulmates with Nile.

And Andy thinks fuck, now I've finally lost her entirely. Because while with mortal soulmates, it had always obviously been temporary, but now... she is certain that she doesn’t stand a chance.

Andy withdraws completely, and Quỳnh and Nile do get together after a while, knowing that their relationship will work out is a great incentive to get over any fear or unease… but Nile notices that Quỳnh isn't entirely happy with her, and she figures out that Quỳnh and Andy had been an item, soul-bond or not. And she likes Andy too, alright, and yes maybe she has always dreamt of finding a soulmate to have that kind of stability, and the current culture still favours soul-bonded couples over anyone else, but really, she knows she loves both Quỳnh and Andy equally, so if they all feel the same...

Maybe the soulmate thing is a guarantee, but a happy relationship can also exist without it.

I've an idea for an Andromaquynh fic that I won't write because I have too many others already, so if anyone wants to do it feel free, just let me know so I can read ittt, credit me w/ the idea & link to this post!

Andromache is a car accident victim who ends up disabled- not very visibly so, and many don't believe her when she says so, but she has scars under her clothes and her right leg will never quite stop aching. Most importantly, she has lost her memory, and also trouble retaining new memories if she doesn't basically focus on learning things by heart. She didn't even remember her name when she woke up, and she picked Andromache out of an old story she liked, but now mostly goes by Andy- even though her old identity has at some point been found out, and a different name entirely is on her passport.

She meets Quỳnh in a support group for disabled people that her docs told her to go to and that she feels constantly out of place in. Quỳnh is recovering from a bad illness or accident, she doesn't want to talk about it much, but she used to be an acrobat and now she is too weak to even walk far without a wheelchair. At first, Andy is torn between pitying Quỳnh for losing that when she herself can physically do most things again even if they do cause her pain, and resenting her because at least she still remembers her past, and once she does recover she will be entirely the same person, not the shadow of her former self that Andromache often feels like!

But then they actually get to know each other, bond over snarky comments and liking horses as well as action movies with actual storylines instead of solely explosions, and Quỳnh helps Andromache learn Vietnamese- which she does as a memory training technique, though she has to admit to herself that it being this language in particular is mostly for Quỳnh. And it's good, some days are still bad for each of them, Quynh having physical relapses and Andy going through depressive episodes, but they help each other through it all, they start seeing each other outside the support group too, sometimes, and it's wonderful, even, Andromache wants to ask Quỳnh on a date next week-

But Quỳnh never shows up to the session, and neither does she answer her phone.

Nobody knows anything, the therapists and doctors won't tell her anything, 'patient confidentiality, sorry, I know you are her friend', and Andy curses herself for not having asked out Quỳnh sooner, maybe having been added to her file as a contact... Now the only thing she can do is wait.

And wait.

Because Quỳnh doesn't show up to the next group session, nor the one after that. And Andy's not stupid, okay? She knows Quỳnh still had relapses, and she is well aware that she actually has no idea what kind of illness or injury Quỳnh even /had/, so what if- what if-

Sometimes, she hopes that Quỳnh just moved on and forgot about her and is completely fine somewhere else, wherever she is now.

Other times, she cries into her pillow because she feels abandoned, by fate, by Quỳnh herself, by her own memory because she can barely remember the way Quỳnh smiled anymore.

& I'm incapable of writing unhappy endings so if I were to write this into a proper fic they'd get together in the enddd, however as already stated above I don't have the time... still, if sb does write that, Happy Ending pretty plsss?

Some ideas for your consideration:

- Quỳnh was in a coma, wakes up again and goes looking for Andy

- She relapsed and had to be taken to a special clinic out of the country where also no phones are allowed as the signal could fuck with medical equipement

- Quỳnh had a final dangerous surgery and didn't want to tell Andy because there's a good chance she will die in it

(& the next one's my fav, if possible in combi with the last one)

- Andy goes volunteering at a hospital or sth bc she feels the need to pay back & also figure out what she wants to do in her new life, then finds out one of her patients is Quỳnh, who's in a coma! She is shocked, but glad to finally know what's going on and even more so to learn that she might still wake up alright, talks to her on her shifts and sometimes stays longer just to stay at her bedside.

She talks about everything and anything, from books over support group gossip and the weather to personal things like how she misses Quỳnh, how abandoned she had felt by her and how sorry she now is for these thoughts and how much she hopes that Quỳnh is going to wake up... and that she loves her, she really loves her, even though they had never even gone on a date. The last part she only ever whispers, half afraid that Quỳnh is able to hear her, yet desperately hoping that she does.

Of course Quỳnh does wake up, and she remembers every word <3

What if during Andy's fling with mortality she gets blind due to some injury and in the aftermath is when Quynh comes back? like Andy might think she's hallucinating her voice and go like "came take me to my death, love?" (we all know it's a happy end she gets her immortality back. Immortalwives TM)

Ohhmygosh I'm here for this!!! The absolute tragic of her not believing that Quynh is really back... and the emotional hurt/comfort potential! Quynh being angry at first, but finding Andromache so vulnerable she quickly wants to help her instead....

Also, once Andy regains her immortality (and yes you're absolutely right, of Course she does :D) - what if she stays blind? I think she would still be a formidable fighter- she has the advantage of her age and all her memories & muscle memory... she hasn't always been blind and learned things that would be harder to learn for someone without sight, but at the same time it makes is harder for her now as she has to re-learn a lot of things where she had relied on visuals in the past...

Which brings me to a new idea: completely AU setting, with Blind!Andromache from the start! Did her culture take care of her when she was young, or did they discard of her because of her disability? Did she only learn most things after her first death and losing her fear of the world that she can't interact with in quite the way most people can? She's probably not able to write, definitely not read 'normal' texts...

How does she dream? Entirely without visuals, solely of Quynh's voice, the foreign sounds and smells around her? How much longer did it take her to find her? How does Quynh react to her- and Nile, and any of the others?

I think the blind woman would be underestimated by a lot of people, and Andromache can use it to her advantage- she still knows more fighting styles than any mortals have time to learn, and she engages with her environment in ways others can't even comprehend.

On the other hand, I think that as long as she knows a place- and maybe, after thousands of years of experience, even in most new places- she would be able to get around without any aid and while seeming entirely 'normal', just relying on sounds and the wind- but she would probably hate the modern world even more because of this, where everything is so noisy and fast...

Oh man, so many ideas, thanks so much for this ask! I don't have the time to start another AU fic right now, but if sb else wants to use these, feel free, just credit this post!

Also while I've gone to school with several visually impaired/blind people & know a bit about eg how they can get around with little to no help from others, I'm not one myself, if you write a fic like that and are sighted yourself, best look at some info on it first or ask sb you know who is willing to talk about their disability :)

hey! 1- How do they fall asleep? Wake up? Any daily rituals? for andromaquynh for the ask meme?

Ohh Andromaquynh my beloved! Alright so first of all I think with millennia of them being together, I think they've obviously gone through a lot of changes :D times where they went their own ways and other times where they were attached at the hip, and everything in between... I'll focus on the distant past where they had first gotten comfortable in their relationship, and on the post-canon/AU modern day :)

• How do they fall asleep?

Andromache didn't need a lot of sleep, used to naps at all times of day instead of sleeping through the night. Quỳnh slept better when it's dark, and they often kept watch over the other, I like to imagine the sleeping one with her head in the other's lap by a fire...

Modern day, depending on the mood of the day either cuddled together Quỳnh's head on Andy's chest (never the other way around, they tried that because they used to like it in the past, but Quỳnh wakes from nightmares of not being able to breathe), or each in their own bed, especially Quỳnh likes to take up a lot of space and to steal the covers for extra warmth, plus they like different textures in their sheets and well, with the luxury to choose, why not... plus I think Quỳnh would like warm fluffy covers but nothing too heavy after her time in the ocean, while Andromache prefers weighted blankets. They also still don't always go to sleep at the same time, Andy's still a nightowl while Quỳnh tries to ignore the darkness that reminds her of the ocean, she often sleeps with lights on hiding from the darkness outside, sometimes Andy reads or looks at mission files in the room with her while Quỳnh sleeps

They always kiss goodnight, it has turned into a little ritual for them after it was their first tentative step back to closeness and intimacy after Quỳnh came back.

• How do they wake up?

They're both good at waking up in an instant, out of necessity in the past, and while they still have the skill in modern times, Quỳnh likes to doze and enjoy the warm morning sun and the soft bed, and maybe Andromache has crawled into bed as well at some point in the night... and Andy, especially when she is forced into a more awake-all-day sleep-only-at-night rhythm because of a mission, is extremely grouchy in the mornings of the next few days before she gets her rhythm back, she needs a lot more sleep than when she can pick when to nap when it feels right for her, refuses to wake properly until mid-day even when Quỳnh peppers her face with kisses or lures her with coffee... not that Quỳnh minds, Andy can be incredibly cute that way

Quỳnh is also very proud that while usually, any sound closeby and especially touch wakes her immeduately, Andromache always seems to know that it's just Quỳnh and no danger even when she's fully asleep, Quỳnh managed to braid her hair in complicated styles when it was long without Andy stirring, and now just cards her fingers through her hair as she watches her nap (I also like the idea of Andy growing out her hair on one side, mainly so Quỳnh can braid it again :D)

• Daily rituals

I already mentioned the kiss goodnight, then I think they usually have at least one meal together, not always the same one and not even always eating the same thing, just comfortably sitting together... Andy is also the only one allowed to brush Quỳnh's hair, though I wouldn't call that a daily ritual exactly, just something they like to do from time to time :)

This picture of Ngô Thanh Vân for Harper's Bazaar gives me such Andromaquynh-AU-where-Quynh-owns-a-flower-shop feels...

Andy comes in to buy flowers for the grave of her sisters who died in an accident years ago... Quynh thinks she must be dating someone buying flowers that often and is inconsolable because All The Cool Gay Gals Are Taken... but they keep talking when Andy comes in, even though she's a little gruff at first- she just can't resist Quynh's charm and cheer... slow burn, happy ending, beautiful.

But I already have too many WIPs!!! And other irl stuff to do too! Can't possibly start another one right now!!!!! So if sb wants to write this Please do, just tag 'inspired by' & let me know when you post because I would Love to read this <3
