Hope can be a source of strength, but when it fails to deliver what I want, I’ve found a good degree of stubbornness to be an appropriate substitute.

Hello! I just noticed that you also like the Arcane Ascension novels. It's nice seeing someone else who's into them.
Yes! Andrew Rowe is quickly becoming a favorite of mine! He was my introduction to the LitRPG genre and I’ve been hooked since. I’ve been listening to the audiobook versions of all his series because a gentleman named Nick Podehl does the narration for them. He’s great at making the different characters feel like characters. I sometimes forget it’s just one guy doing all the narration. I’m having fun with it and it seems like an underrated series.

Book Review – How To Defeat A Demon King in 10 Easy Steps
The Story:
The world is being taken over by the newest generation of Demon King and everything good is perishing. As everyone waits for the 100 year marker to reveal the next Great Hero, the one individual who can save everyone from certain doom. However, tried of waiting for just a hero to save the day, a young bag mage takes on the quest of saving the world. Even though she isn’t the hero and isn’t in the hero class, Yui Shaw heads out on a grand quest to accomplish the impossible. Her 10 steps to achieve saving the world is her only hope and just might help her survive if she sticks to her plan. It’s time gather your party, gain those experience points, level up your classes, and learn some new spells! And hope that we are strong enough to take on the bosses.
Key Elements:
Science Fiction, Fantasy, Gaming, Adventure, RPG
Have you ever played a RPG (Roll-playing game) before? Some game that is similar to Skyrim or World of Warcraft. If I could embody these games into a fun, lighthearted story this would be the book. I was a bit hesitant at first when I realized what the author was attempting and didn’t see how someone could actually write about a person leveling up and working on quests essentially; however, I was very surprised. I felt that Andrew Rowe did a very nice job at creating a strong balance of gaming jargon and a relatable story to keep the reads involved. I have not run across a story that incorporated a leveling system and class skills before this book. And being that I am a gamer, I was able to picture just how some of the mechanics would work and the ‘pop-up’ screens would be functioning during the game.
There were moments that I was having a hard time trying to figure out how I should be reading the story. I couldn’t decided in some situations if I should be seeing these characters as real people or simply characters that people are playing in a game. I feel that a little part of that is supposed to be the charm of the story. Always keeping you on your toes and making you think about what is in a game and what isn’t; however, having some key phrases and random jumps with the story bounce between a person or a player threw me off. It kept me from really getting full into the story because I was trying to figure it out during some chapters.
I would say that if you are not much of a gamer or at least haven’t played something that involves a skill and level grinding process, this book probably isn’t the best option for you. Rowe does rely a little on his readers to have at least a base knowledge of how some properties work in a game environment. Don’t get me wrong, he does a fantastic job at describing some of the advanced spells, or fights. But with a gaming background, I feel that I was able to appreciate the story a bit more and fill in some of the blanks that are created.

Anybody ever read war of broken mirrors or weapons and wielders?
They’re great books with one of the most creative magic systems I’ve ever seen but I’ve never actually seen anyone say a single word about the books online.
I’ve never found a series of books like the two previously mentioned that can accomplish such an immersive magic system but they’ve got COMPLETELY UNNOTICED! And it makes me so mad.

I've recently bought (and finished) the arcane Ascension series, and was looking through Tumblr for some other fans of the series to follow, and kept seeing references to a server, presumably on discord. Is it a public server for fans? If so, I'd quite like to join to talk with other people about these books, if that's okay.
Hi! So glad to have another fan on Tumblr, most of the poeple stick to the discord server. Which is fair, because it's an amazing place!
The Climbers Court is the Official Andrew Fan Server (or as close to it as it gets, given how Rowe himself is in it and makes the occasional appearance), and it is public! Here is the link, which can also be accessed through Rowe's website.
I hope to see you in there soon!

Welcome to my Page!
Jack of many trades, master of not enough I think.
Hi, I'm Sapphire, and I am Sapphic. Aside from being transgender and loving women, I enjoy a great many things including (in no particular order):
Randomizers & Speedrunning
I stream twice a week-ish at twitch.tv/SapphireSapphic
Video Games in General
I play a pretty wide variety of games outside of streaming, although my favorite genres tend to be RPGs and Roguelikes.
Books
Current Hyperfixations include Animorphs and Andrew Rowe's Acane Ascension-verse. I usually listen to audiobooks, and most of them tend to fall into either YA Action/Adventure or Sapphic Romance.
Linguistics
I've been studying Japanese for about 5 years, and I'm dabbling in a few other languages as well. Being a polyglot is a big life goal for me.
Martial Arts
I practiced for a good 6/7 years and I'm looking to get back into it.
Music
I listen mostly to J-Rock and J-Pop, but I'm open to a pretty wide variety of stuff. Favorite Artists Include: Eve, Frederic, Tally Hall
I'll update this post more as I grow more familiar with Tumblr!

Thinking about Corin as transmasc bc of course I am. And like. It works. All his issues(tm) line up very well with being trans.
But also there’s no way Magnus Cadence would allow/accept a trans kid. Like. Even if those who take after Wyd are like. Commonly accepted. Magnus is the kind of bitch that would be an asshole about it.

Andrew Rowe had a great solution to this in his books: Resh. He defines it as "hot pile of garbage" or something after the first use but he uses it as a substitute for fuck shit and damn. Works very well.
Everyone. Please. Write "fuck." "Damn." "Shit." "Motherfucker." Don't fucking censor. Don't write f*** when you mean fuck. Let's not encourage censorship. Let's recognize when we are participating in censorship and self-censorship. You don't have to censor your words on tumblr. You don't have to censor your stories on AO3. Please. Please. Write out the word "fuck."
If you personally don't like the word? Then there's no need to write it. If you are writing a story and you know the character curses and you don't feel comfortable writing it? Write "Character cursed." No reason to disrupt the writing, infantalize the writing, and create an ugly piece of work by writing "Character said, 'F***!'"
We can all handle the word "fuck." Please, please, just write out "fuck." I don't know what you're trying to get out of "f***" but I promise, it's not going to have the effect you want. If you really hate the word "fuck," feel free to be creative and insert another fun word. Anything but "f***."

I recently got recommended an audible audio drama called "death game quality assurance" by Andrew Rowe and oh my goodness I'm so autistic about the little goobers in that book it's so good! I loved the voice work and the character writing is very believable. It's a spoof on SAO, Ready Player One, and the game industry at large about, essentially, the freelance quality assurance team for a direct parallel to SAO and their general work culture. The naming structure of these characters is based around their usernames and you read chat logs to understand the story. It's really fun and I recommend you give it a listen if you can.
