Imagine: K-Drama remake of “The Walking Dead”

1) The show would be 20 episodes long and would cover the first two seasons of the original series.

2) Storyline is mostly the same, with changes being to fit the different setting/culture. Also, the teases to season 3 are removed just in case the drama doesn’t get renewed. So, no Michonne or the shot of the prison in the distance.

3) Lee Jung-Jae (Seong Gi-hun from Squid Game, Sol from The Acolyte) as the equivalent to Rick Grimes. In this version, he is a police officer from Yangpyeong County. I chose that county since if Seoul becomes the equivalent of Atlanta, he has to be from an area not too far from the city.

4) Han Hyun Min (So Not Worth It) as the equivalent to Glenn Rhee. Since you obviously can’t do the scene where Glenn has to correct Daryl Dixon by saying that he’s Korean, Glenn in this version is played by a Korean-Nigerian actor. So Daryl’s ignorance in this version would probably be something along the lines of him saying that Glenn is Ethiopian or a black American.

5) The Rick-Lori-Shane love triangle gets more of a kdrama vibe, so maybe we might actually get to see how Rick fell in love with Lori and how Shane began to lust after her.

6) Ryoo Seung-bum (Frank from Moving) as the equivalent to Daryl Dixon.

7) Ju Ji-hoon (Lee Chang from Kingdom) as the equivalent to Shane Walsh.

8) Song Hye-kyo (Moon Dong-eun from The Glory) as the equivalent to Lori Grimes.

9) Steven Yeun (original Glenn Rhee) makes a cameo appearance as the army zombie inside the tank. The one who Rick gets the grenade from.

10) Park Ji-hu (Nam On-jo from All of Us Are Dead) as the equivalent to Maggie Greene

11) Park Sung-Woong (Kim Myeong-gil from Bloodhounds) as the equivalent to Merle Dixon

12) Song Kang-ho (Kim Ki-taek from Parasite) as the equivalent to Hershel Greene

13) Han Hyo-joo (Lee Mi-hyun from Moving) as the equivalent to Andrea

14) Chun Ho-jin (Seo Tae-su from My Golden Life) as the equivalent to Dale Horvath

15) Kim Joo-ryoung (Han Mi-nyeo from Squid Game) as the equivalent to Carol Peletier

16) As stated above, Atlanta is changed to Seoul

ANGELA KANG: Christian Serratos volunteered for Rosita to die. When I made my rounds with the actors to talk to them about the final block of episodes, she expressed that she felt like the right thing for her character, and something that would be really good for the finale, was if her character died in trying to save Coco and in trying to make sure that the next generation had a shot in life. And she told me to think about it.

GREG NICOTERO: Christian came to me about six to eight months before we did that episode and said, "I want something really great for Rosita." She's like, "I want that character to go out strong." She said, "I think I might want to die, but if I die, I want to do something heroic. I want to die saving the children." So she came up initially with the idea, and I thought it was a really smart idea for her character.

KANG: We felt that there were some aspects of it that felt like we could pull from the Andrea idea in the comic — just the idea that there was a really important member of the cast doesn't make it, but that there is a chance for there to be a bit of a goodbye that felt like it was honoring the emotional intent of the comic as well as kind of fulfilling something that Christian said that she felt was important for her journey. And we try to take those things into account.

NICOTERO: As we got closer to it and then once the outline and then the script came out, she and I worked really, really hard to make sure that we captured the moments that we felt were critical to Rosita's storyline getting wrapped up.

She was 100 percent committed. It was a little different than previous scenarios, because her death had a very resounding meaning in the end of the series. We've had characters go on the show that weren't ready to go. But this was a different situation because she felt that dramatically, story-wise, it left Rosita in a better place than where she would've been if she would've just been part of everybody else just saying goodbye. So I give her a tremendous amount of credit for that. I think that she had fantastic instincts on that.

My favorite bits:

easing into things with harmonies of a memorable song from their own youth, then jumping back to the early stuff

Earl at nearly 40 sounding just as good as preteen Michael Jackson on those high vocals

the clever camera wipe transitions that allow them to change outfits and positions to reflect each group

the rhythm section doing some air instrumentation during "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" 🎸🥁

J.None actually not being too proud to ask his bandmates to come back after they jazz-square-slide away

using the whip pan to and from the gossipers to make another costume change

Geoff pushing past Earl, which propels Eli off screen and into the right order for the next dance sequence

the beautiful juxtaposition of the "Single Ladies" choreography done to "Walk Like A Man" 💃🕺

the airy decending sounds Layne makes as they all fall down and the camera spins into the next song

getting back to their barbershop roots for "Candy Girl"

bracketing "Thank You" with the unmistakeable bell chords from "Motownphilly"

Layne doing the quick change "wrong" and yanking off his dickie with dramatic flair as he starts beatboxing again

the whole montage of "Pop"-able items, particularly the intense Bubble Tape™ stand-off, and J.None being showered in bubbles

Trivia:

○ This video was the result of a Patreon poll, and the option the guys least wanted to win, because they knew how much work it would be. But they committed to it like the professionals they are, going all out on the music, costumes, and choreography.

○ The medley is an update / expansion of the previous version they had been performing at live shows for many years. They took the opportunity to swap out some songs in the earlier arrangement for others by the same artists:

Jackson 5 — "ABC" ⇒ "I Want You Back"

Four Seasons — "Sherry" ⇒ "Walk Like a Man"

*NSYNC — "Bye Bye Bye" ⇒ "POP"

One Direction — "What Makes You Beautiful" ⇒ "Best Song Ever"

○ To get the dance moves right, they called in a ringer — choreographer Kristin Denehy from The Sing-Off competition show and live tours, who they'd also worked with on their "Cheerleader" video several years before.

○ The group of gossipers during "Walk Like a Man" is all of VoicePlay's spouses at the time — Nick Perez, Kathy Castellucci, Cyndi Stein, and Ashley Jacobson.

○ The sandwich delivery guy in "Thank You" is the fellas' longtime friend and collaborator Rek Dunn. Given that Boyz II Men are proud Philadelphians, he's probably handing over a cheesesteak.

○ Eli sings some of the Korean lyrics in the closing BTS section. Given that he speaks Japanese, he was probably the most likely of the guys to get the pronunciation right. (And judging by the YouTube comments from BTS fans, he did a good job.)

○ When Geoff was rehearsing the choreography at home, he got some personal coaching from Kathy and little William.

○ The guys also had group dance rehearsals at a local studio.

○ The long day of filming and dancing aggravated Earl's old foot injury, so he spent the next day wearing a brace to help it recover.

○ The streaming audio version is separated into 4 tracks with 3 or 4 songs each, primarily due to licensing restrictions.

○ The 4:2:Five boys had opened for 98 Degrees at Sea World all the way back in September 2001, just a few months after they'd released their first professional EP. When VoicePlay appeared on the fourth season of The Sing-Off in 2013, working with Nick Lachey again was a little bit of a reunion.

199 lmao...i have a slightly smaller to-read list for this year that focuses on just books i own physical copies of but haven't read yet. that one is 35 books rn...

hmmm ok gonna try to make this list like. authors who i've read multiple works from & enjoyed as opposed to just really liking one novel or series so. hannah moskowitz for sure. also victor hugo and mervyn peake...kurt vonnegut...neil gaiman...have also read & enjoyed multiple works by han kang, ursula k. leguin, octavia butler, and gabriel garcia marquez but i feel less familiar w them so...not sure if i'd confidently call them favorites...have also read a lot from v.e. schwab but not sure if she'd quite make the favorites list either bc there's wider variance in how much i like her works...

Top 10 kdrama friendships that had me bawling

#10 - alchemy of souls : mu deok/bo yeon + the boys

the only reason this doesnt get a higher rating is because they just didnt have enough scenes together. it was always pretty secondhanded, like the boys helping her with her servant exam in s1, or scenes between seo yul and mu deok/bo yeon. however, their friendship was amazing, and just adore this show in itself.

#9 - doom at your service : tak dong kyung, na ji na and cha joo ik

okay, they weren't a trio, necessarily, but they had such a great friendship through indirect interaction. joo ik and dong kyung had such a wholesome excited little sister and passive older brother relationship. and dont even get me started on the cuteness that was the friendship between na ji na and tak dong kyung.

#8 - strong girl do bong soon : do bong soon and gyeong shim

i wrote about this in my review of strong girl dbs as well, and the friendship between gyeong shim and dbs was so cool because both women were willing to go to such lengths for each other. one of the lesser-highlighted friendships of kdramas.

#7 - crash course in romance : nam haeng son and kim young joo

it takes a lot to sacrifice your national sports for your friend, and young joo made that sacrifice like a pro. their friendship was so cute, a bit annoying at times, but cute nonetheless. they were there for each through the goods and the bads, and that's all we really ask for.

#6 - lovestruck in the city : lee eun oh, suh rin i and kang geon

why! are! they! not! talked! about! ultimate peak best friendship, no romantic subplots to this gang, absolute delights. everyone should give lovestruck in the city a try.

#5 - twenty five twenty one : the gang

how could i say friendship and not have these people. this gang singlehandedly and platonically had enemies to besties, childhood besties, sunbae besties and just everything. right in the feels.

#4 - weightlifting fairy kim bok joo : the trio + the boys

the 'swag' trio. every time they did the swag thing it made me cringe so bad but they were very cute. the rooftop scene was legit so cute and the addition of the boys was even better. nothing beats these weightlifting girls and we stan.

#3 - extraordinary attorney woo : woo young woo and choi su yeon

this was sosososososo cute. the way su yeon was literally always there for young woo. she couldve easily been a villain, young woo took the guy she had a crush on, was higher in grades and well known. had an influential background. such telltale signs of bad women in kdramas. BUT this amazing person really was so good with young woo and totally spring sunshine su yeon.

#2 - the fabulous - the gang

everyone seems to hate the fabulous. genuinely, come at me. i dont give a shit about cinematic art or marketing strategies or whatever, this is my opinion gonna stick to it. i ADORED the fabulous. their gang was so amazing, the definition of supportive, cute and somehow maintaining that joke around stuff. they had their little pairs in the middle as well, but that didnt take away the overall love. go watch it.

im a recent to hosplay bandwagon, but. i fell in love. finished the (almost) entire show in nearly a week, an achievement considering it's my finals rn. we've got the piggies, buddha who is catholic, the guy who knows everybody and his dad. it was the little things with them for me, really. when they called jeong won andrea like that was so cute. when jun wan called seok hyeong ik jun's dad it made me laugh so much. and the fact that they're really not that close when u think about it but they still are? like that is adult friendships and we love.

Just finished ep 6 of the Good bad mother and while I overall really like the show there’s somethings that annoy me lol

- any scene with Andrea! What is the point they really don’t do anything, unless they’re planning to make him some important guy who will help them all at some point but even then the scenes feel forced and unnecessary

-the annoying ass trot singer, can’t stand him and he feels utterly pointless. We’ve already seen them trying to get rid of her and after being with them for so long to even entertain the thought is super stupid and pointless bc they backed down (never should have listened to him in the first place)

-the fact that we’re basically half way through the drama and he hasn’t regained his memory (mostly bc I feel like when he does the story will be rushed to fit in the rest of kang ho’s plot)

-the mom having cancer which will most likely force reconciliation and forgiveness between them (saw it from a mile away) are there any kdramas out there where the characters don’t forgive their abusive guardians and just tell them to F off???

Anyways excited for the new eps specifically for some development with Mi Joo (the dinner scene killed me 😭). I can’t wait for him to regain his memories and be good to her(and his children)!!! Also the thugs and their imaginary farm and house were too funny. Interested in how they���ll deal with all the corruption and shady stuff Kang ho was involved in and am praying for the downfall of the prosecutor, prosecutors daughter, and the gangster lol

On a side note I saw a comment somewhere saying Kang ho needs to apologize to his mom and like wtfffff? His mom owes him the biggest apology and him being a dick to her before he lost his memory is 100% justified, she’s lucky he even gave her the time of day.
