I got an ask from someone saying they are interested in watching adventure time but I accidentally deleted it :( anon if you are reading this here are some great reasons to watch it!

the later seasons are really awesome bc they start going really heavy on the lore and start to develop more of an overall plot. it's like watching the climax building in a movie but spread out over multiple seasons. it is 100% the best lore ive seen in a cartoon.

the show is really convenient to watch bc each episode is only 11 minutes but there are so many of them you dont get sad about finishing it too soon. this was back in the days of cable so theres anywhere from 20-50 episodes per season (yes, 50).

it's one of the only shows ive known that keeps the same voice actor for the entire series. the actor started around the age of 12 so you can literally hear him getting older throughout the show and the character gets older with him, voice cracking a lot and slowly deepening. i find it cool that they chose to do that instead of keeping the character eternally young.

you get attached to characters in ways you dont expect. as more things are revealed about them you begin to feel their loneliness, their insecurities, their desires. since the show lasted so long they had really amazing opportunities to develop the characters over a prolonged period and didnt need to rush it.

easter eggs! concept art! backgrounds! if you are an artist it's hard not to become obsessed with this show. and all these things are very well recorded online. even at the age of 26 i can think of ways that adventure time has influenced my art.

the idea of a post-apocalyptic setting being fantasy instead of sci-fi is so creative and unique. im personally not a fan of sci-fi but love fantasy and they did so many amazing things with this universe and it worked so well.

it is genuinely so funny. I think i actually laughed more rewatching it as an adult than i did as a kid.

you will gain a new appreciation for tom kenny if you've only ever heard him in spongebob. (also the VA who plays princess bubblegum played starfire, and jake's VA played bender)

if you do end up finishing the show (that will take a while) you have even more to look forward to! Distant Lands and then Fionna and Cake! the wiki also reveals some amazing stuff about each episode and you learn a lot of things you didn't know before (i dont recommend reading it while watching the main series bc it wont hide spoilers)

Keith David recently complimented the hb cast saying when he’s with them he’s in the presence of something beautiful. I think that’s really sweet, because yes, the vast majority of the cast of HB seem like very kind and passionate people. I’m really glad Keith is having a good time, and tbqh I’ve never really had an issue with the cast.

But weirdly there are already people saying shit like “you just KNOW the Hazbin haters are mad lol” and that Keith said Hazbin was his favorite role—

FIRST—It’s really weird that they assume people who don’t like Hazbin think Keith needs to be “saved” or some shit? Keith David is a grown ass man who can make his own decisions. He’s a very very talented individual, who has been in TONS of movies and shows, and has done a lot of really amazing voice work. He’s the best performer on HH imo, and while I don’t like Hazbin Hotel personally, I find it downright bizarre that Stans would assume that we’re like…mad at him or don’t think he can make his own choices??

SECOND—the clip that was circulating did not show him saying Hazbin is his favorite role, he said he’s in the presence of something beautiful with the other cast mates and crew while working on the show (which tbh, I agree with—I really love a lot of the actors/actresses on the show, and I think, all things considered, they did a good job with what they were given. I’m of the opinion that the voice director did a pretty bad job, as a lot of the seasoned VAs on the show sounded kinda off, but I digress)

There’s like. This weird insistence I’ve seen in Hazbin Stan spaces where they point to the professionals who have worked with Spindlehorse or started in Viv’s shows and are like “SEE??? THIS REALLY TALENTED PERSON WAS ON THE SHOW!!! SO IT MUST BE GOOD!!!!”

And I mean. That’s still all subjective. I’m so sorry, but it is!! Idk how to tell yall this but great actors and artists have been in some really really bad movies. It’s not really an indicator of if something is SURE to be well written or made. Again, all subjective, but like. Idk Keith David is very very much allowed to think Hazbin is the greatest story of all time and his favorite role ever, and I’m very much allowed to disagree with him on that, but still enjoy his body of work.

My favorite performance of his will always be Childs from John Carpenter’s “The Thing”, but that’s just, like, my opinion, man!!! Who cares!!! Maybe Keith hated that role! That would make me a little concerned, because I’d be worried that he was treated badly or was struggling during the filming, but if it turned out he just didn’t think it was a good movie? That’s okay!!!! Him not liking his part in it wouldn’t take away what I like about it.

Just had to vent that. I really really hate when fans or critics bombard actors from shows in any way, either by being overly familiar in a really parasocial way, or by acting like they’re “owed” something from them.

Either way, love Keith, not a fan of Hazbin personally, and that’s an incredibly normal cold take to have that for whatever reason some people apparently cannot fathom. It’s kind of sad to me that people will see an actor compliment a show they like and immediately go “PEOPLE WHO DONT LIKE THIS SHOW MUST BE SO MAD RIGHT NOW HA!!” Instead of being like “aww yay, I’m so glad the actor enjoys the character”

Hey! Im a queer person (lesbian transgender woman) and wanted to talk on the queerbaiting argument ive seen here quite a bit

First let’s start with the positives of what AE has done related to the queer community

• worked with queer people, including a few trans VA's, and one of the members i BELIVE its justin (i have poor memory due to DID so, please excuse that) going by they/them.

•has many openly not just queer sexuality wise but gender queer characters, a group of people who dont usually have a whole ton of representation within the usual queer rep thats typically just cis white gay men

•turned the harmful trope of "oh whats this characters gender? we dont know!!" with paintbrush, and then turned it into nonbinary representation, and didn't just imply but had paintbrush actively use they/them pronouns and later on in season one outright stated they where nonbinary

•had bot as a way to represent trans teens and also nonbinary people who dont fit the typical androgynous box that most enby's get put into

•lightbulb transitioning originally jus to even out the genders of the characters then being used to help add representation and having confirmed she's a transgender woman, so that she didn't end up just being some queerbait for people to decide "oh is it just show logic or is she trans?" and start arguments that gains traction

Now, for the negatives. (this will be kinda difficult since i'll have to avoid ii18 spoilers)

•lightbrush as a ship being as implied as it is yet still debatably canon, yet fantube being canon and the whole fandom unanimously agrees on it (USUALLY)

•payjay in the same boat, being a heavily implied yet still debatably canon ship

•and I'm adding a separate bullet point to point out the excuse of them "trying to leave things up for interpretation" when it doesn't seem very "up to interpretation" with the straight ship.

So, yes! in some ways AE is guilty of queerbaiting, but not jn the ways ive seen people talking about on here.

What I love most about Hajime is how he is a hater and hes grouchy and skeptical and direct and dismissive and rude, yes, but he is completely unafraid to show his emotions in front of others. He is just as quick to tell you that youre doing something stupid that he thinks is a waste of time as he is to take interesr in you and ask you questions about your interests and laugh at your jokes. He enjoys spending time with others and learning new things, he just has no patience for bells and whistles or any kind of conversation he might feel is pointless. If he wants to get to know you, he doesnt want you to dance around the topic, he just wants you to get right into it. This is all clear from his free time events with other characters and how he is written in Japanese to completely forgo any and all pleasantries and honorifics. His Japanese VA, Minami Takayama, portrays him very snappy and to the point. Aggressive but not necessarily mean. To me he comes off as if he was raised by old-fashioned and working class parents that take a tough love sort of approach to teaching their kids, like he was never handed anything and he always had to work for what he wanted. He wants to help but you need to help him help you. He doesnt hide his emotions, when he is confused or scared you will see it plain as day on his face and in his voice. Same as when he is happy, however rarer a sight that may be. He is kind in a way that might seem hostile if you dont know how he thinks at first. Hes a very genuine person that unlike Makoto completely refuses to let anyone walk all over him and I think thats what makes him so compelling as a protagonist. He isnt the way he is because he wants to look cool or better than anyone, quite the opposite he simply doesnt care what other people think, at least on a surface level. I would describe him as very "inward" focused. When speaking to others i dont think that he is trying to necessarily relate with them or put himself in their shoes so to speak, but rather, he is laser-focused on what *he* can contribute to the discussion, and he really wants to contribute. It makes complete sense why him of all people cemented himself as the de-facto leader of the group despite not even knowing what his talent is or if he even has one. He is the most curious and attentive person and he wants to be prepared so there is never a situation where hes caught being ignorant about important information. He wants to be helpful, he wants to be important. Thats why it hurt him so much that he didnt have a crazy talent like everyone at the school he admired so much for all of his life. He might not be an ultimate but he absolutely does have the gusto and ambition of one, if not more.

honestly so happy that its easier to grind in hsr then genshin cause im actually able to properly build my characters instead of whatever mess i had in that game (i got the right artifacts but trying to get materials for anything was a bit of a pain to me)

also that the resin (i dont know what its called in this game im using genshin terms) can like. overflow into this other thing??? is. so helpful. (i stopped playing at one point so i just came back to both being full. and then when i realized what it actually did it was a godsend because it made it so much easier to fully commit to grinding. i know in genshin you can make the resin this little thing? condensed?? but thats a thing you have to do yourself i think)

i returned to honkai star rail because aventurine. i focused on the story because aventurine. (got spoiled his story, realized 'what the fuck hes cool i like him' and watched someone go through the story) i came back in time for his banner but you know what? i had like zero wishing stuff because id stopped playing so i missed out unfortunately

i have friends who have aventurine as like one of the support characteres thingy tho? like the the where you can get support from other peoples characters

Charles cannot seriously be hoping to win races and be a world champion. I've got no proof just my own absurd theories but I seriously cannot see him becoming a wc. Lando is the same. They both are so alike. One bad race or bad moment and they shit on themselves and lose control and take a week to bounce back from it. I as much as I have love for them and am starting to think they genuinely believe they will win a dc. Oscar and Carlos are the only ones who could on either team as it currently stands. Unlike merc where George could in the team even tho he is lewis' teamate he actually could. But Charles and lando can't unless they change their mindset and team. And tbh to some extent I see both Charles and lando not nearly serious enough about f1 at the moment. And I know 'social media is fake and only shows so much blah blah blah we dont know them personally' but if they gave a fuck they'd risk the money and try and get into redbull. They'd risk thier paychecks and get the money invested into the team. And again I know I don't know what is happening behind the scenes and I'm whatever for saying this but Charles won't win a dc and neither will lando. WOAH. Okay we about to get trashed for this but ya know what, idc, I partially agree with you.

I don’t think Charles, or Lando, will ever win a WDC. I think of the two of them Charles is the one with the real shot, because I think he has a much stronger mentality than Lando. I don’t think the pressure gets to him for pressure’s sake the way it does with Lando. I think where Charles knows he doesn’t have the equipment he gets desperate, and mistakes happen. Whereas Lando just can’t seem to hold it together over a weekend, and I think a lot of what affects Lando happens outside the car, which is why he would crumble in a title fight. That said, I think time will run out for Charles, George, Carlos, Lando, etc. Those teams won’t catch up to Red Bull before ‘26 and by then Oscar, and whoever else has come in from the next generation will be younger and hungrier, and the next cycle will start. For me, they will miss their window. I won’t say for sure but that’s my feeling, and if by the end of next season the Ferrari team is not operating like Red Bull (meaning they have a clear #1 driver, and their strategy and pit stops are where they need to be) it will be clear that not even Fred can change the tide and they are an unserious team where Charles will waste his talent.

I disagree that it would be a smart idea to get into Red Bull. Tbh I don’t think Red Bull would want Charles, but that’s another issue. That team is Max’s and it will be until he leaves (or suddenly can’t drive a car anymore but that won’t happen). As a driver, you have to think you’re the best driver, but I don’t think either Charles or Lando is delulu enough to think that they could beat Max in Max’s Red Bull (and this is not me saying they build the car for Max, I’m saying that when Newey hands you a car and Max is saying “make it faster” and everything you do to the car to make it driveable only makes it slower…you are fighting a losing battle). Red Bull would not only be a waste of time for them, but yes, probably a big financial loss, because they both benefit from marketing themselves as #1 drivers at the moment.

I have to say, I agree that it doesn’t seem to me that Charles is as committed to being WDC as he could be. Disclaimer - this is purely based off vibes, I don’t know the guy. I’m not saying he’s not doing his job, he absolutely is, but the self promotion levels, at a time when the results are not resulting…signals to me he’s branching out. I talked a lot last season about how I think he’s transitioning out of the “Il Predestinato” image, and how I felt part of that is because it is becoming less likely that he will win a WDC. I think it’s clever of him to think about doing other things though, because so much of what it takes to get a dc is out of his control, and he doesn’t even have the bare bones of a team or a car that will let him challenge for a title. But I disagree that the branding is ridiculous, I think it’s a logical thing to do. Yes these guys make good money from their teams but that won’t last forever, they have pretty short careers. It’s good for them to use their platform to build income streams for themselves that will go beyond their F1 career. Charles previously hadn’t been able to do that and now he is, which is definitely a positive. I will give Max and his team props here because I think he’s sneakily got the best alternative income streams of anyone. Verstappen.com must absolutely be raking it in with those grandstand deals, the merch is consistent, his brand deals are minimal but they’re big and they stick with him. My point is, drivers do need alternative income streams, especially when their brand can’t just be “I win”.

Lewis a master at this, I will admit, I just don’t like his brand. But it is consistent and he has managed to transcend F1 as his own brand which will keep him comfortable for the rest of his life, so good for him. I don’t buy into the brand but the brand is branding, I have to recognise.

I don’t really get Charles’s brand identity yet lol so I can’t tell if how likeable it will be. I mean, currently he is very liked, it’s possible it will stay that way. I really couldn’t say. I think Lando is about to have an unlikeable season but I also think his “babygirl brat” thing is pretty amusing and won’t ultimately alienate his fan base.

The Monkie Kid Style Shift

To start, for those who are unaware of my existence bc you only know mills or just dont know us at all, hi! I'm Cicada, he/she pronouns, and I'm a Tang fictive. I wanted to give my opinion on all the shit that happened today, because I believe I and other fictives have unique experiences regarding source media changes :3

Okay, so we all know that Flying Bark's animation has always been an integral part to the spirit of Monkie Kid as a show, and is the main reason why a lot of people love it. As a semi source-connected fictive, seeing that style is like literally seeing me and my family in photographs.

like, y'all have no idea the emotional damage this shot specifically does to me whenever i see it.

and while, yes, there is a possibility that WildBrain can simply just be learning the style (hell, even FlyingBark had to kinda learn their own style in the early days), it's an extremely drastic change and, thus, is bound to cause collateral damage.

I love speaking about my husbands, for example, and the FlyingBark style luckily gives me a great outlet to do so (pignapped lives in my mind rent free).

However, and I can't speak for any other fictives, but the art style shift is kind of like if you watched your family get replaced by aliens or robots right in front of you and couldn't do anything about it. Stiff, doesn't really have a lot of character. I've seen people theorize that they're gonna be animating on rigs instead of handrawn, which matches up. That means, however, that we can't achieve awesome shots such as. every lbd scene ever.

I know plenty of Singlet but neurodivergent people who are also distressed about this, there's familiarity. Especially in my fellow autistic folk, that feels natural, good, and we wouldn't give it up for the world.

(We mod in one of the biggest Monkie Kid discord servers and, dear gods, the fucking backlash. we're all going through it.)

I'm kind of worried that this was pushed, not only because of the ATLA movie, but also because everyone on the staff team was worried because the fandom was antsy.

Can't speak for anyone else, but all the "save me s5" jokes I made were just light hearted, and I'd much rather have quality over quantity. Personally, i'd be willing to wait years for the next monkie kid season if it meant that we could still have it animated by FlyingBark.

Now, of course, this isn't what we're getting, and we'll have to accept that, I just think it should also be valid for fans to be reasonable skeptical at the quality, no matter if it's still the same writers and VAs. It's a huge change, and all I ask is that you're patient with me.

WildBrain is an amazing studio, but I'm not sure they can adjust to the shift in style. Of course, someone's bound to be dissatisfied with it, including myself, and I ask that y'all are patient with people like that. Don't say shit like "if you're a real fan, you wouldn't care about the art style change." That's not nice.
