I feel like the "you can't eat at everybody's house" meme also applies to riding in someone else's car. Some of my friends are TERRIFYING drivers. 😭
#And it's not just the driving itself#This friend pulled out of his garage to drive us somewhere and the back right tire was 100% flat#I said your tire is flat and he said yeah the light's been on for a while 💀#I was like I'm gonna grab my air compressor out of my car and air this up for you and hopefully it's a slow leak#Fortunately it is indeed a slow leak#But SIR#that is a safety issue#If you can't afford a new tire rn I get it#But it's such a slow leak it's probably a patch job and it would cost $20 which I know he can afford#But yeah also the driving makes me feel like we're in Mad Max Fury Road#And if we miss an exit DO NOT DART ACROSS LANES OF TRAFFIC TO MAKE THE EXIT! we can exit the next one and turn around!!

because I rent a car to get out to my office, sometimes I'm confronted with a radio that has wildly different preset stations than I would ever select. mostly this means I have to suffer through a lot of country, or christian talk radio, before I run out of patience and switch over to the stations I like; but other times, it's someone with a thick accent reading a very lengthy advertisement for the Chicago Public Library in an almost....computerized way? and then long carnatic music, with a celtic fiddle breakdown in the middle? with absolutely no explanation for why this is what it is.
.........only afterwards did I discover that it's the station for a nearby university. then it made sense.
#I know numbers stations are old fashioned and mostly done but that was very much the vibe.#........a while ago I was listening to a very very cool station where the interviewer was interviewing one of the attorneys#involved in the CPD consent decree#I wonder if it's the same station? that would make sense.#while driving home the other day I thought about how fun it would be to write a story where a businessman in town for a trip#rents a car and starts listening to the weird radio station presets. getting more and more into this weird station#that doesn't explain itself or name its dj. just plays the sound of the wind and music even google's never heard of.#I still think that would be neat#celestial emporium of benevolent knowledge

with the amount that the main series dunks on the forbidden cities i would just love for unraveled to be just an unabashed celebration of humanity. like yes there is poverty and pollution and crime but also there is dancing and music and rollercoasters and scary movies. let keefe discover the beauty here! the first book was all about the wonder of the lost cities but unraveled could be all about the wonder of the forbidden cities

It's not automatically a good thing, actually, that the game de-emphasizes or even outright removes racism against elves, and bigotry against other groups, from the story
#veilguard critical#completely declawing the sociopolitics of the story doesn't in any way make it a better story ugh#being of a certain race and even of a certain gender should mean something in the dragon age world and not all those things are good#and that's part of the challenge of the roleplay and part of the themes of the whole overarching story like#tevinter! is a location in this game!!#not to focus on just the elves but if we're not feeling the absolute depths and desperation of all the elves#not just the dailish#then there's no way to feel much complexity or conflict over - for example - what solas is trying to do and why he's so motivated#his character is boiled down to him being by himself and feeling conflicted over just his past actions#as if he didn't spend all of inquisition investigating yours and the companions' differing plights and worldviews#tbh though one of the biggest failings of inquisition is maybe possibly not highlighting the dailish and city elves enough#to help drive home this point - but veilguard is so clearly just kind of out here by itself with loredumping that goes completely#uninvestigated socially or politically that like... it doesn't matter much#like we just have to pretend that everyone is playing kumbaya now? with the elven god of rebellion real and running around?#that you can walk around anywhere in tevinter practically unbothered?#like bellara and davrin and every dailish elf in thedas aren't at all significantly moved by knowing their gods are just some guys?#i get more and more pissed at -good vibes- storytelling in all its mediums with every passing day#ISMtext

#this is why all of my OCs are horrible people in one way or another#this goes for relationships too#lum1ty is cute and all but nothing about it ever destroyed me nearly as much as even the most tame scene between any members of#the calamity trio. and ik it's because the relationship between those 3 is what drives the story while lum1ty is a romantic subplot and all#but my objection is: that's precisely the problem#it's supposedly meant to be the fluff amongst the angst. a refuge from everything else that happens in the show#plus it's not the MAIN main relationship of the show - the main relationship is between Eda Luz and King#but... i genuinely believe divorcing lum1ty from the rest of the story does them a disservice. imagine how could it would have been if#they let amity be a little bit worse. deeper into the emperor's coven or something. with a more intense rivalry w luz#characters in toh just need more Drama imo especially luz's friends#hunter is great *because* he's Dramatic#this isn't toh bashing. i love toh. i just can't help but feel it's an example of characters being too... *nice*#cant remember who said that the only thing worth writing about was the human heart in conflict with itself and#im sorry but you can't convince me a character like gus or willow is just as much in conflict with themselves as like. idk. hop pop.
