A far too long post about the newest Futaba Sakura figure from Goodsmile! (Under the cut)

I got her from a local comic store for 50$ and tax, which ended up being ~6$ cheaper than my other figure from this series since I wasn’t covering shipping. Which was fun. Usually in stores like this I look for P5 figures or other merch unfortunately, since it’s my favorite game.

The place I was at had a ton of Popup Parade figures which was really cool to see, but I honestly didn’t expect to find any of the P5 ones since (at least in my opinion) P5 merchandise is hard to get your hands on after the initial release. It was a nice find since this is one of the few figures of a girl from Persona I feel aren’t super creepy (there are some Bad persona figures out there. Ann’s figures usually get the worst of it 🙁). Although its hard to find any devoid of Creep since the phantom thief designs for the girls are... the way they are (see: Bad).

That being said I think this one has some aspects that are kind of... off. I guess it’s fine for her to look kind of lost in thought, I wish they’d given her a more mischievous face entirely because I plan on displaying her next to my Akechi figure from this line and think it’d be funnier if she looked like she was picking on him. Also I just think they should always make every figure of her have the vibe of :3c. For fun.

Alright so for some far less than stellar photos I took of her!

Overall I think she’s a cool figure! For the most part I like her pose and expression but just wish it was all rendered slightly differently (see my comments about how the p5 girl figures are all a little creepy from earlier). The paint work is nice with no noticeable issues or misprints. Her face is printed very crisply and looks neat, although I wish there was some more blushing since the face is where people look by default.

She works pretty well displayed from any angle, but naturally works best displayed front facing, and easily the worst angle (again, in part because it is Weird to me) is the back. It’s mostly hair, which while sculpted nicely, isn’t super interesting to look at.

I don’t tend to collect boxes, which is good in this case since hers had a price sticker from the store I got her from that seems hard to rip off. It’s a shame though since I think the p5 popup parade boxes do look really nice. (they’re too large for me to keep though lol.)

Final thoughts

I think she’s neat! Gonna be on the lookout for the Joker popup parade figure so she can have her brother with her! (and ig her brother’s miserable boyfriend). Glad I saw her in store and didn’t have to worry about shipping. Ideally the second wave of p5 popup parade figures (Futaba and Makoto) means they’ll make more in the future and I can continue my insane habit of buying Ryuji and Ann’s figures together (they are besties to me).

Do I recommend this figure?

Yeah! Love the Popup Parade figures a lot and think they’re worth the price, especially for the P5 sets, usually p5 figures go for a lot more :,)

5/16-17/2023.

Finally collapsed some boxes I had been saving, because they were blocking some of my older consoles.

Got rid of that printer-scanner that wouldn't scan because the printer was always on ink/paper-jam error.

Cleared off half of the shelving at my window, to turn into a partial desk, for when I open mail or need some flat space. Stacked my Bleach manga into 2 vertical columns to safe space. I would have done 1 column, but the last box is smaller than the other 3 boxes of Bleach. So moved some items to my 3rd bookcase: rock base accessory (from a Sol Badguy figurine, I think), Sengoku Basara DVD/bluray box sleeve, and some clear Darice mini display boxes (1 containing a pompom teddy bear). I moved the Nendoroid More face parts cases to the shelf above my closet.

Moved my Lelouch, Sora, Riku, and P-chan plushies from my window shelf, to my plushie tower. They don't actually have string loops, so I used a darner needle and yarn to insert some loops for them to hang from. (Years ago, I did the same with my big Hinata Hyuga plushie, and it still works.) Made some hooks out of 20 guage craft wire. Didn't sew any loops into P-chan though. I don't think I could emotionally stand to pierce his plushie skin. So just tied yarn around him and looped that to a craft wire hook. P-chan is sitting on top of Cheese-kun, but I wanted to give him a security harness, to ensure he doesn't fall.

Recently moved my book of Grimm's Fairytales out of bedside box, and returned it to my bookcase's myth/folklore shelf. Ended up rearranging 2 shelves. Moved the playing cards and hanafuda cards to my 3rd bookcase. Also moved around some books from my writing and language sections.

Recently unboxed my last 3 Persona 5 Figma. Today, I shelved the Futaba and P5 protagonist Figma boxes together, since they're both in normal, non-thief clothes. Moved the Oracle/Navi Figma box to the row where Figma protag used to be. There's now a gap behind the Persona 5 Dancing in Starlight case, but I'll fill it with some random Figma box later. It gets covered by the game case, so it doesn't matter if it fits the Persona 5 theme of the shelf or not.

ok so. goro akechi. goro akechi who is unable to look at himself in the mirror and grows his hair out past his knees and is so so so so so gay. goro akechi who studies japanese flower language and talks to haru and yusuke about it. goro akechi who tells haru it was either going to be him or her that killed kunikazu first, and he's happy he did it first so haru wouldn't have that blood on her hands. goro akechi who sits at leblanc every thursday to quietly talk with deadbeat parents club (ryuji, haru, yusuke, akira, sumi joins sometimes but not often cause she doesnt consider her dad bad she just wishes he helped her more during stuff, himself, ann) and tells them what he learned in therapy and helps them all find ways to find peace with it. goro akechi who was gifted a Crow figurine from akane (p5s) after akira told her he was a fan of crow, and then akane found out he was crow, and akane freaked out. goro akechi who is 20 years old but lives life like he is 16 because he missed out on everything. goro akechi who watches featherman with futaba and works with her and yusuke to write featherman fic and get yusuke money by commissioning featherman art. goro akechi with a sticker covered cane. goro akechi with medical necklaces who has stress induced petit mal seizures and chronic pain and multiple disabilities both mental and physical. trans goro akechi. goro akechi who is tired and worn but so fond. goro akechi who is dragged to takemis at a late hour because hes going through an episode and he tries to hurt himself and all the phantom thieves (+ hifumi & shiho bc hifumishihogoro bffs are real, + ken, + sae & naoto) come running to make sure hes okay, to watch him. goro akechi who cries late at night because he can't understand why people are nice to him. goro akechi who doesn't really believe it when he says "i love you" to akira because he doesnt really experience romantic love. he has an odd 3rd thing he feels guilty about with akira but they still say theyre dating. goro akechi in general. idk ..

OH MAN WHAT A FEAST! Sorry for the wait, I've got no agnst ideas for our guy Goro at the moment, but I'm gonna take a good look at this all

I think Yusuke would actually be more enthusiastic about Japanese flower language than Haru, which is saying something. He's captivated by the inner meaning held by such beautiful works of art, crafted both by nature and the nurturing hands of humans, and would easily go on an infodump about the language (and the shape of the petals, the stalks, the colors, both bold and subtle in difference, so... so much.). Meanwhile Haru takes both the language and the technical care of the flowers seriously, and loves sharing tips on how to keep the flowers healthy and vibrant, both before giving to someone and after receiving them. She encourages Goro to try growing something himself since it can feel very rewarding

honestly, I think Haru would appreciate that sentiment in a bittersweet way. Goro has... caused a lot of pain that can never be healed. It's also true that it was very, very easy to draft up plans on killing Kunikazu herself

Goro and the deadbeat dad club is like trickle down therapy and a fucking love it, holy shit. I'm sure he doesn't fully realize how much he's really helping them all

AWW YES, GORO WITH A CROW FIGURINE!! I'm sure talking with Akane is bittersweet, but as time goes on, Goro becomes another person she can depend on and is welcomed by Zenkichi

I've seen a surprising amount of fanfics with Trans Goro, and while technically not trans myself, it's nice to read them and think of how Goro had handled transitioning (either explosively not well or surprisingly... pretty fine? Considering that Japan is pretty tolerant of trans people and it's not necessarily as difficult to properly transition from female to male or vice versa as in the US (which isn't much of a high bar but still))

I love characters that are tired and worn and fond... it's just... damn I relate to it

there was some artwork from someone on tublr..where they pointed out that he doesnt really talk outside the metaverse so--hes hyperverbal as joker and just near nonverbal as akiren

bouncey legs, swingin arms, twirlly skirt, little somersaults! when will she stop? never!

he is still nice to people because he doesnt see a reason not to be, but also he has very limited energy so only his senpai and old people get his most polite-kindnesses

cannot describe feelings for the life of him. the team wont know hes injured or sick until hes passed out

everything is too loud, time to drown it out with my loud ass music

rocking and chewing stims, ryoji is the first person to point him out for these subtle stims (not accusingly of course, just general pure curiosity and love for the uniqueness of humanity)

I think one of the issues with the girls in p5 (and p4) is that Atlus realized that as long as they are pretty and a romance, anything else you can half ass. Take Makoto - not a bad character, but not that interesting. She’s pretty and has her moments, but most of her role is just saying information and her SL was really boring. Female fans I follow criticize her for being to similar to Mitsuru without the complex, interesting backstory. Yet, in Japan Makoto is the most popular girl.

I think that really depends on the character and all but yeah, I can see that. Even the game itself babies Makoto, giving her powerful weapons that give her stats a boost compared to the other active party female members and always seems to shove her in the MC’s path. She’s the Aigis and Marie of P5, in my opinion…. till they possibly remake P5 and add a new girl that they will push even more (I wouldn’t be surprised if she ended up rooming with the MC for some reason or something, I expect nothing at this point so something like that wouldn’t surprise me).

As for Makoto’s confidant/slink… yeah, pretty boring. People only like it for her romance and to see her ‘blush’ - other than that, she’s pretty much a bad mix of Mitsuru and Chie’s worst character traits, in my opinion.  I personally hate how Eiko pretty much takes over her confidant till like rank 9, was it? And nobody likes Eiko, tbh. Like I think she scored low on the list the Japanese made about their favorite to least favorite non-confidant/slink NPCs.

As for why she is popular, I heard the Japanese prefer their girls the way Makoto is, she was literally created to be a ‘waifu’ first and everything else second, her horrid confidant/slink and skills she gets from it still baffle me to this day - she literally just gets the normal party member skills, scanning the enemy for weakness/etc. like Futaba/Morgana should be able to and… what else was there? I forgot.

Then there is the people who treat her as the replacement for the P3 FEMC because they look similiar, but that doesn’t mean they are similiar in personality… 

… to keep it short, there are many hints from the game itself to her frankly OOC figurine poses (we all know that bike pose that Makoto would never do because she supposendly isn’t that sort of girl, even I - who is not her biggest fan - can say/write that with confidence) that she is their ‘waifu’ … for some reason. I never understood the hype about her given she is not all that special and compliments more with Anne than she ever did the MC, imo. My vision of the MC would never date a girl like her, is all that I’m going to add onto that. I just hope the anime doesn’t show her into my face as well but after Aigis in the P3 movies, I’m not holding my breath (if anything, they will just give her more ‘moments’. Calling it now! :D) :)

waiting for Haru to be shoved aside again and for Anne to have literally no important moments while Futaba just appears cute and knowledgeable as she always did in the game
