HERE COME THE AKIRA THIUOUGHTS,. I’m so bad at typing

How I feel about this character: you think i can put that into words? You think I can go oh yeah here’s a general overview of how I feel about this guy. With HUMAN WORDS? And anything short of TELEPATHY? I’ll give it a try. First of all I love him <3 he’s like. The best protagonist ever actually. No literally the AUDACITY of some people to act like he doesn’t have a personality- look at him. He is a silent self insert protag in GAMEPLAY ONLY. In the actual narrative? That’s Just A Guy. And a really fun and interesting guy. He wants to help people so bad, it’s so important to him. Where’d he get that from. *squeezes atlus* Show Me His Family. “Really just wants to help people” as a defining trait for a character never gets old like yessssss show me the goodness of humanity the urge to do whatever you can to make things better for someone else even if it’s hard. But at the same time he’s also like. Verging on insufferable sometimes. He has SO many dialogue options to make SO many dumb jokes, he’s just like me <3. He’s the king of *gently bullies his friends* *gently bullies his friends* *gently bullies a complete stranger* he’s a complete dork and an overdramatic showoff and the chuuni of all time and a guy who wants to be a superhero and a guy who just wants to be normal and a guy with social anxiety and a guy who couldn’t shut up to save his life. He chronically adopts younger wiglojgs. SORRY WHAT? SIBLINGS. I TRIED TO TYPE SIBLINGS. IM KEEPING THAT. GOD and that’s not even getting into the way he like… kind of lies a lot. Like for a bunch of the confidants he just Lies about why he’s talking to them, I mean honestly you could say that all the things he says are true if you WANTED I wouldn’t argue with you on that it’s a cool and funny concept but like in my eyes. He’s like. “oh this is because I want to be a politician” “oh im just a model gun enthusiast” and etc etc etc etc and its like. Yeah it’s because all this is because his cat yells at him “THAT PERSON LOOKS USEFUL TALK TO THEM” and he can’t possibly explain That so he just has to come up with a plausible reason but also it’s like. *shakes him* are you good? Like 100%? At the very least lying all the time is really uncomfortable. Like that’s a strain. Oh also he’s so smug <3 Basically I think he’s fun and awesome. Basically he is like a little guy to me. Basically he just does whatever he wants and good for him. He’s a little weirdo who can’t stop being dramatic even in his internal monologue. Has there ever been a better protagonist? Well. That’s a huge paragraph. Hopefully I expressed my thoughts well.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: is there… really gonna be that huge of a gap between these sections? I don’t know if that’s just how it looks for me i or if there’s just gonna be a mile wide gap. Well, either way. Look at me, the man who has probably made at least one tumblr post containing the term “akeshu” every day for the past, like, four days, and take a wild guess. He’s just straight up flirting with akechi in that one confidant. Also see my earlier post abt ryuji being like “THE PLACE YOU BELONG IS WITH ME! ALSO I WOULD DIE FOR YOU” like….. i DO believe in the healing power of best bros. So basically akechi and ryuji r my favorite akira ships. Special mentions go to yusuke and haru as well. Akira may have One girlfriend.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: I mean like all of the phantom thieves they’re a fun little found family of bffs but. *banging pots and pans together* FUTABA. FUTABA. FUTABA. SISTER OBTAINED. SISTER ACQUIRED. all futaba and akira do is be siblings and hang out and joke with each other and teach each other things okay? Okay? I am talking directly into your ear now young man? Also gotta mention sojiro their shared dad. Gee akira how come i let you have THREE dads (his actual dad, sojiro, and yoshida)

My unpopular opinion about this character: *leaning in and whispering conspiratorially* i dont interact much with persona fandom… i dont know which opinions are popular or unpopular… I guess my earlier point of just. He DOES have a personality. Some people act like he doesn’t! He DOES! Literally just LOOK AT THE GAME! He makes jokes relentlessly & does cool backflips just bc he realized He Can & he spends every single class every day staring pointedly out the window & he insists on helping people no matter what & he loves his friends & I might have had another thing to say but I got so busy building up to it that I lost it. Anyway. He’s literally just NOT a self insert. He’s his own guy who just occasionally supplies you with dialogue options when he doesn’t feel like talking. Ok? Ok? People stop saying he doesn’t have a personality. He does.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: oh god idk uh. I wish he actually swapped outfits with akechi. I mean there’s still time, I guess, but I know how these things work, so I’m just, like, assuming it won’t happen. Uhh. I wish atlus had not been cowards and gave him the option to date his guy friends too <3 seriously it’s a missed opportunity all around. I wish uhhhhhhhhh. I think I had something else but I forgot it 😐 honestly despite my passion about his personality i DONT wish he wasn’t a silent protag bc like- then so much of the charm is lost. What makes m get so excited abt his personality is the fact that you have to LOOK for it. I LOVE looking at characters and keeping an eye out for things that are less than obvious about them and piecing together details that lie under the surface and akira woild be fun anyway but also hes kind of more fun for his personality having to be something you grow to understand yourself. As much as it infuriates me when people Don’t understand. Also I wish you got to call sojiro dad.

If you don't mind me asking, what are all of your AU's? And what are they about?

Oh boy get your popcorn ready because this is a doozy of a question, but one I am more than glad to answer because I love these so freaking much. I will point out that I keep a tidy list here (x) of the AUs I’ve introduced so far, both for basic explanation but also contains links to each tag for easy reading, but I know a lot of people aren’t gonna read every link on my blog so I’m fine with explaining them here~

First we’ll tackle the non-Persona 5 AUs because I have… way, way too many of those tbh. I’ve done a few practices on a Danganronpa mastermind!AU where Shuichi Saihara was the mastermind of NDRV3, though should inspiration strike (or a request come in) I’d give a go at writing for other characters taking up the role, and how those scenarios might play out.

I have an untagged Fate/Grand Order AU for completely self-indulgent purposes where I and a friend joke about what like in the Chaldea base might be like with us two being the last remaining Masters. It’s a disaster, but you can catch references in the small F/GO snippets littered about.

So far I have two AUs for the Arsène Lupin novels, one a modern!AU where it’s exactly what it says on the tin and it’s just a modern take on the character. The other is a time travel!AU (although it also contains dimensional travel but I don’t care enough to change the name for my own tagging purposes) where he’s brought to an alternate version of the modern day via parallel universe/string theory bullshittery.

On to the meat of this ask: my myriad Persona 5 AUs. First and foremost is my first (and dubiously favorite) AU, the vampkira!AU. Named so because at the time of creation the only canon name we had was Akira Kurusu and I haven’t changed it because I like vampkira better than vampren. But this is separate from what I might otherwise call a vampire!AU because the universe is based for a very specific story idea that I have, where the Reader Character is a Spirit Agent in Tokyo who ends up having to deal with vampire!Ren. The whole thing is aimed at my vicarious love of ‘Enemies to Friends to Lovers’. I do plan for the other PTs to show up including: werewolf!Ryuji, witch!Ann, fairy!Yusuke (like Tinkerbell, it’s meant to be funny), alchemist!Makoto (think Atelier series alchemist, not FMA), brownie!Futaba, fae!Haru (spooky fae, the kind you don’t mess with, not funny at all), and a fellow spirit agent!Akechi who actually got the help and support he needed to be a better person.

Next comes the palace!AU, another fairly self-explanatory one, where Persona users can indeed have Palaces of their own. So far I’m currently writing a full fic for Ren’s palace, though I have definite plans for an Akechi palace fic, and I’m kicking around ideas for possible Yusuke and Ryuji palaces.

Then we have my youkai!AU, the foil in some ways to the vampkira!AU, where they’re more traditionally Japanese supernatural creatures. Unlike the vampkira!AU I don’t have one overarching story idea for this, so far it’s just four separate ideas for the PT guys featuring nekomata!Ren, oni!Ryuji, kitsune!Yusuke, and tengu!Akechi. I might write stuff with them knowing each other, I don’t have any qualms about seeing them interact but I just don’t have one big plot for this one.

I’ve written some bits and pieces for a proper thief!AU, but this is some really self-indulgent faffery because I want actual-gentleman thief!Ren to sweep me off my feet. (And it’s good potshot fodder when you’ve gotta make a friend weak in the knees). I just want thief banter and sass, ya feel?

There’s also a pocket pals!AU I’d like to do more for, an AU where the guys get shrunken down and the poor Reader Character gets to babysit until it wears off. The whole point is crack and fluff, and seriously just picture tiny!Akechi and tiny!Ryuji getting sent to a cardboard jail because they keep fighting while tiny!Ren laughs (at Akechi, mostly) and tiny!Yusuke tries to be the Goodest Boy while painting the tiniest paintings. Adorable.

Another plot heavy AU is my velvet attendant!AU, born of wanting to write some porn I got distracted with some really, really cool story ideas and now it’s going to eventually become a full, coherent fic of it’s own. The basic premise is that the story takes place after a very specific canon bad end (the one where you make a deal and the Metaverse remains, you know the one) and to fix this an alternate version of Ren (one who got another bad end, if you fail the interrogation, you know the one) becomes a velvet room attendant to the Reader Character in order to help her fix things, all under the nose of the ‘current’ timeline’s corrupted!Ren (the one who made the Deal). It’s a complicated mess, but it will let me take a look at a lot of interesting facets to Ren Amamiya and his reaction to the power he was given and what it could have done to him.

And now we reach AUs I have, but haven’t yet introduced to you all just yet, though surely they will appear in due time.

Of these, first up is a twin!AU, an easy to explain AU where Akira and Ren are the Amamiya twins and it’s absolute faffery just to have two of these crimeboys running amok. Can you blame me? Also carries a huge sitcom vibe, set in college where they can all be goofy friends. Former-child actor Goro Akechi and current-model Ann having gossip sessions, anyone? Smuggling high-school senior Futaba into the dorms to have TTRPG sessions? Hella.

Then I have a non-reader insert AU I’d like to tackle: a role reversal!AU where due to varying circumstances Akechi and Ren’s roles are reversed, with Akechi having fallen under Sojiro’s care and benefiting from it, saving him from his canon downward spiral, and Ren loses out on this support system and becomes a twisted antagonistic force instead.

Back to the reader-insert, there’s an Arabian Nights!AU idea I’ve kicked around, but I’d like to spend some time reading the actual Thousand and One Nights first before I get too deep, but it looks to be a fun and promising venture.

In my notes I have what I call a Disney prince!AU for Akechi, where the whole story idea is basically a Disney movie, and Akechi is the prince to your princess. Still very much under construction, but absolutely a fic I’m going to write.

BIG EDIT: I also got a request for a detective!Akechi piece and I’m totally gonna turn that into an AU, you bet ur bippy. Look forward to that, Akechi Anon.

Bonus edit: I do technically have two more AUs, though I have no idea if you’ll see them here unless I get more ideas or y’all really want to see them. One is a mahou shoujo!AU where the PT + Akechi are a band of magical boys and girls who fight evil and Shido and Yaldy are totally dressed like 80′s anime villains. The other is a sort of companion to the pocket pals!AU where the guys are animals instead, featuring cat!Ren (anyone see a theme here?), shiba inu!Ryuji (literal sunshine), fox!Yusuke (duh), and beagle!Akechi. This one has mostly been reduced to joking headcanons with a friend, but if anyone really wanted to see it make an appearance I’d be glad to write and post something here.

Morning addendum: Since this has become my de facto AU master post I’m gonna mention that I forgot an eventual yakuza!AU. Because.

Another edit because I lack self control: Been considering both a Starbound!AU and a Stardew Valley!AU because both games are good and they’d make for good crossover fodder.

Home Is Not Home Anymore (Maybe a part of a mini series? I dunno)

Akira didn’t want to leave his friends behind. Not after all they had been through, all the good and bad times they shared, and not after he finally felt like he fit.

His parents were certainly glad to see him, though he knew what the rest of his family and neighbors truly cared about.

“The Phantom Thief”.

Not even the house was safe from the questions. No sooner did Akira open the door when his cousins began asking about what a Phantom Thief was, what it was like, if it was cool breaking the law, and any other question that could even remotely be asked. His grandparents were less concerned about his exoneration and moreso loudly voicing their disappointment in him for even getting charged in the first place.

Just when he was wondering how he could excuse himself from this surprise party of questions and disappointment, he imagined how Ryuji would handle this exact situation.

“Eff off, he’s been through enough! More than any of you could ever understand. So if you’re going to get an attitude with anyone, I’m your guy. Bring it, it’s nothing I haven’t heard before.”

All Akira could do is blink a couple times, dragging himself unwillingly out of the imaginary moment, and tried to lock eyes with either of his parents, wordlessly begging for some breathing room.

“I’m feeling nauseous thanks to that sandwich I got from the store on our way home. Can I go upstairs and lie down?”

Begrudgingly, his parents relented, and Akira did his best to appear nearly sick to his stomach, bolting for his room, all the while bringing his bag with him.

With a quick lock of the door, he sat at the edge of his bed, and tried to take some deep breaths. He didn’t know that he had been anxiously holding his breath, or hyperventilating as he booked it up the stairs. 

He looked over to the space to his right he’d always leave for...

That’s right, they were back in Tokyo. He was alone here.

The thought hung around him like a heavy necklace, pulling his head down to the point he only saw the floorboards and his legs and feet.

He figured he’d miss the mere presence of his friends, or knowing they’re only a short ride away, or perhaps the antics they could easily get up to, or even the familiarity of life over the past year. 

However, what hit him hardest was the utter silence. The noise of his family and neighbors gossiping was, at most, a quiet murmur that was more like an annoying buzzing than relaxing.

“I bet Yusuke would hate it here. It just gets quiet enough that you try to relax, but something loud always happens to break your peace of mi...”

On cue, his neighbor four houses down let out a shrill laugh, one he was glad to have left behind last year, and even less pleased to have to be stuck with on a weekly basis.

“This must be what it’s like for Haru when she has to go to board meetings.” Akira mused out loud, but quietly enough that no one could hear him.

Slowly but true to his nature, his mind slowly started shifting gears from excitement, anticipation, happiness and eagerness to a creeping sense of anxiety, apathy, depression, and the feeling his energy was left back at Leblanc.

“It’ll be good to come back to my friends” became “What friends? Your friends are back in Tokyo, not out here”, or “It’ll be nice to relax” turned into “I have nothing to do but be on my own.” or worst yet, “I’ll be okay” was now a resounding “I don’t care”. 

What didn’t he care about?

His parents? His extended family?

He already had heard some of the most devastating things to hear from parents or mentors, with such classics as “You are a disappointment”, “You deserve to be locked up”, “Are all your achievements a lie”, “You’re always screwing up”, “You’re a delinquent menace” and “You never do enough”, and no matter how much he tried to believe they had moved past that, that pain wasn’t going to evaporate.

The backfire of a nearby motorcycle made him imagine Makoto being there, looking at his down state.

“Akira, I know this hurts. I’ve been called similar nasty things by my sister...but you know what? She respects me now more than before, and we are doing our best to be better friends and family than we did before. If we can do that, in spite of everything, so can you and your parents. You’ve always had the gift of turning what others call a lost cause into something incredible.”

He decided he would just close the blinds and try to sleep this feeling off, though picturing his friends and what they’d do or their own experiences of similar situations did help him at least calm down enough to even attempt to fall asleep.

“You should get some rest.”

Picturing Morgana lecturing him was the last step he needed to sleep. Funny how the small things were the only things keeping him together.

Waking up early in the morning, Akira slowly and still mostly groggy stumbled down the stairs. He smelled the scent of coffee, and imagined Sojiro and Futaba waiting for him, with Futaba happily sharing her latest new manga craze with him. Still waking up, he imagined the sight of someone he never thought he, or anyone else would see once he could see into the kitchen:

Goro Akechi.

Clearly Akira wasn’t readjusting to life back home, and this only further unnerved him. The smell of freshly made pancakes and coffee being brewed were clearly the scents that tricked his mind into imagining Akechi sitting in the kitchen, looking more forlorn than he normally would with his favorite breakfast in front of him.

Akira was exhausted, and tired from the memories that all seemed so much sweeter now that he was gone, wordlessly ate.

“I’m sorry about yesterday Akira. I was hoping they would be happy to see you, not...”

Akira purposefully took a huge bite of the pancake to avoid talking, and waved his mother’s sentence off.

“Akira...Son, are you okay?”

Akira grabbed his bag and wordlessly walked out.

Frankly, he didn’t want to know the answer to that question.

His walk to school was a good fifteen minute walk, and while he could normally catch up on what he missed gossip wise, regardless if he wanted to hear it or not, today he couldn’t. The fog in his mind only got deeper as the fog crept in to the town, to the point that he felt what he knew he truly was here....Alone.

Here he was alone. And nothing was changing that.

“...Kurusu. Akira Kurusu! Don’t you have anything to say to the class now that you’re back?”

He didn’t know what Mr. Ishiyama was expecting, he didn’t know why his rude neighbor Yuki Hammura counted as family to his parents, nor did he know why his own parents cared all of a sudden that he existed.

He didn’t know why he cared either.

“No sir.” Akira mumbled, catching Mr. Ishiyama off guard.

“Well...you’ll be sitting in the fourth seat back, by the window there. Now, everyone, settle down, we aren’t an institution to only discuss one student’s life outside of town, so please, stop badgering him for answers. You’ll have an exam this Saturday regardless, so make your choice. Ask him endless questions, flunk your first exams, or listen, stop running your mouths, and pay attention!”

The class largely ignored Mr. Ishiyama, and Akira looked out the window, picturing his friends being in class themselves.

Then came the last one. The last Phantom Thief, one of the very few he had hoped wouldn’t haunt him so much, wouldn’t hurt so deeply in their absence as he was hurting, and the unending sense of brokenness that came with it.

Ann Takamaki.

She was the first person he had met from the group, and that moment began to replay in his mind. He fully immersed himself in the memory, letting his hand, ears and brain do all the note taking subconsciously.

He couldn’t look at the desk directly in front of him. If he didn’t, he could still pretend, still imagine, still hope against hope that she was there, that all of his friends were still there.

On sheer instinct, he looked forward, and the pain of that last hope being crushed felt worse than any weapon leveled at him in the cognitive world. It felt as if each vow, each unspoken pact was slowly being unwound, and each tiny fiber that once held it together was ripping his heart apart.

A quiet buzz from his phone gave him a little reprieve from the downslide, especially since it was his friends, all in a group text seeing how the first day was going for one another.

[TEXT] Makoto: Akira, how is your first day back at school going?

[TEXT] Ann: Ryuji’s already getting on his teacher’s nerves.

[TEXT] Ryuji: You know that’s not true!

[TEXT] Futaba: ...not the same. Hate it. 

[TEXT] Haru: My day is going well, but I hope your day is a pleasant one!

[TEXT] Yusuke: I believe we’re deviating from what this group text was being used for today.

[TEXT] Makoto: Yusuke’s right, we were all wondering how your day is going!

Akira had a thousand ideas, ranging from being honest and depressing all of them immensely, all they way up to lying right through his fingertips.

Against any good judgement, he lied, and lied so intensely that he had to pause and focus on classwork to try and distance himself from it.

[TEXT] Akira: I’m doing really well. Being back in town and back to school is easier this time around.

He slowly pushed the text out of his mind, his eyes glazing over in apathy and pain, increasingly  losing even his sub-conscious focus on the material. The sounds of people whispering rumors, Mr. Ishiyama lecturing, the air conditioning, the way desks and chairs creaked and groaned, all of it was lost in this mental fog.

Just as the second break was ending, and course work resumed, Akira felt his phone buzz once. He caught a peak at it and spotted Ann’s icon with one message. He could only do his best not to crack, not to let on how anxious he was, how alone he felt, how much it all hurt, how it felt like he had just left the best people he’d ever have in his life behind, that he had cut himself out of a life he had made with them...

[TEXT] Ann: ...Liar. I know you too well to not know when you’re putting on a front to keep us happy and not make us worry. I miss you Akira, and I know that you’re hurting.

Before he could even begin to handle that text, a message from Makoto followed immediately after he read Ann’s.

[TEXT[ Makoto: You don’t have to be brave for us Akira. We all miss you. I...miss you quite a lot. 

He didn’t know what to say, or what to do. Frankly he wanted to grab his things and run away, run back to the friends, no, the family he had made, the people that loved him through some of the biggest tragedies, failures, and losses. He knew he’d never make friends quite like his friends from the past year.

 He missed them. He...

He needed them. He knew, always knew, deep down that they had saved one more person than they may have realized.

They had saved him.

And he knew now he couldn’t go from such a strong support system, to nothing. Not like this. 

There had to be a better way.

Persona 5 Review! (Spoiler Free)

Ok, so I’ve played it twice, I’ve platinumed it, I’ve been through every f*cking rage quit, I died many times right before getting to the safe room, I’ve never seen it coming like a thousand times, and now, I can safely say, I love this game so much.

No joke. Persona 5 was everything I expected and more, much more. It surpassed my expectations in every aspect. And yes, this is gonna be anything but praise, and you can already guess which is going to be my final verdict on this, but still, I have to talk about this game.

So, like in its two predecessors, you play as a nameless protagonist, whom we’ll call Akira Kurusu (‘cause that’s his name in the manga and I like it very much) and who’s been falsely accused and now is under probation in Tokyo, the big city. Here, he’ll be taken under custody by Sojiro Sakura, the owner of the café Leblanc, and he’ll attend to this school with a very particular sense of fashion when it comes to its uniforms, Shujin Academy. Soon enough, Akira will discover that a strange app has been installed into his cellphone without his consent, and despite the many times he tried to delete it, it won’t go away.

From here on out, you can guess what will happen if you’ve played another Persona game before: he’ll discover he can summon creatures from hell itself and that there’s a world inside of the world where shadows live, he’ll come across other people who can summon things as well, and they’ll fight demons and stuff, and at the end, they’ll save the world with the power of friendship because if not, this is definitely not a jrpg. Pretty much the same concept from previous games.

But at the same time is completely different, new and fresh.

Persona 5 revolves around the themes of ’freedom’, and ’being slaved by society’. The topic of corrupt and rotten adults is also brought up many times. And it does it perfectly. From the beginning, you get absorbed by the prejudice they throw upon Akira for being a ‘delinquent’ under probation. You can feel how they speak behind his back, how they look away while he walks past them. You put yourself in his shoes, and you sympathize with his bad luck. That’s a very special moment for the player and the protagonist, for it hadn’t happened in previous Personas: this is the very first Persona game in which the main character has the heaviest story pre-game and you feel it. And with ‘heavy’ I mean, seen, clear, present, because yes, the P3 Protagonist had a very sad past, but the game barely touched upon the death of his/her parents, and regarding Yu Narukami… well… yeah, he comes from the city and… yeah, that’s it.

Akira is a character already stablished, the responses you can choose for him have a tendency to seem rebellious, the way he smirks, taunts his enemies and acts proudly of himself… He is, in every way, a character on his own, and not a chance a representation of what the player want him to be. And that’s GREAT!

And not just him. The friends you come across in this path – The Phantom Thieves – may all seem a copycat of previous characters from previous games, but there’s always something that make them unique and original. The way Ryuji speaks and stands against everyone; Ann’s ideals of becoming an inspiration and her passionate love and care for her friend Shiho; Makoto’s concern about her sister and her own future and the pigeon-hole that chained her down for so many years; Futaba’s case of agoraphobia, with her tearful fears and her own demons; Yusuke’s hidden past shaped in a painting and his eccentric ideas; Haru’s heavy burden in following her father’s footsteps while at the same time realizing what she wants for herself; Akechi’s intrusive appearances, with a sad motive and a real self-centered issue; Morgana’s pursuit for his own past, and his devotion for the team. Yes, we already had that best friend who follows women in swimsuits (and actually buys a swimsuit for them cof cof Yosuke I’m looking at you cof cof), we already had the genius detective, the rich heiress to a big enterprise, the talking animal (stop it, Teddie, this is un-bear-able), the popular girl… but they all bring something new to the table. They’re all relatable at some point, and it’s hard to choose a favorite, for they all make you want to be part of that group of friends.

The story is so well thought that it makes me want to cry tears of joy. The main concept is to change the hearts of corrupt people: a sexual assaulter, an artist who plagiarizes his pupil’s work, a mafia leader… you get the idea. The Phantom Thieves risk their lives by entering Palaces, these people’s manifestation of their distorted desires, and they steal their 'treasure’ – in other words, they take away from the villain’s cognition that specific thing that made them corrupt in the first place. It can be a memento from their childhoods, it can be a very naïve object that, with time, created in them this sinful desire to abuse of others with their power. F*ck these guys, really.

And yeah, one thing leads to another… and… there’s like a wheel thing, things that happened at the beginning have repercussion later down the line… and… if I speak a little more I’ll be banned by Atlus 'cause spoilers. But, let me just say that if you believe that Persona 4’s story was clever and surprising, trust me, your jaw will fall to the floor many, maaaaany times in Persona 5. Like, really. You’ll envy these kids’ minds. You’ll never see it co- sorry, it just never gets old.

The gameplay remains true to Persona roots, and brings back the Shadow Negotiation, a mechanic that hadn’t been present since the Persona 2 duology. Before, you gained Personas at the end of the battle thanks to cards shufflin’ (the Shuffle Time Oh My God), but now, it’s up to you to convince the shadows you fight against to join your cause. The Velvet Room is also back, with a very grave-voiced Igor (and Oh, I wanna comment on this, but I can’t), and with two new assistants: Caroline and Justine, the twin wardens. You’ll be able to fuse Personas, just like in old times, but in this occasion you’ll have to decapitate the Personas you want to fuse to create a new one. Nice! There’s also an electric chair, a cell for lockdown and a hanging spot! Cute! All of these things bring new mechanics to the Velvet Room, that you’ll be taking advantage of. There are over 200 Personas to create, and there are some new ones, but don’t worry, we’ll be seeing the same old faces again (hee, hoo, Jack Frost is there too!).

As always, the Social Lin- pardon me, the ’confidants’ (f*ck it, they’re still Social Links, don’t bother me), will enchant the player and take your heart, no pun intended. Aside from fighting darkness itself inside the Palaces (which you should finish as fast as possible), you’ll be spending time with your party members and people from school and from around the city. It’s always good to see Akira interacting with his peers, but it was refreshing for me to see him with adults: in a society in which adults are all rotten and only think about themselves, he comes across some grown-ups that are worthy, that are still clean, and this goes to show that not all of the adults are corrupt, and not all of the teenagers are stupid and immature.

Akira grows close to the people around him, and you can sense his affection and theirs. There’s a big change as to how they regard our favorite delinquent: they slowly realize that he’s not a troublemaker as they made them believe, that he’s actually a noble fighter, and that he’s also worth fighting for. All their love, all their support, is seen and felt during the course of the game, and even more during the final hours. You’ll be grateful to have been close to all these people (I fully recommend to do a playthrough with all the Social Links maximized, it’ll give you, apart from a sense of satisfaction, the whole picture of what I’m talking about).

Social Links are now useful to the actual gameplay. Not only the party members learn new skills as in Persona 4 and passive skills as in Persona 3, but also the confidants outside of the party will give you perks and bonuses during the fights. For example, Mishima’s Social Link (Arcana Moon) will give you extra experience points for those playable characters that are on the reserves (you know, the ones you don’t like and don’t use), so now all of your characters level up at the same time, not just the four you choose. And it’s helpful as hell, believe me. Another Social Link, Hifumi Togo’s (Arcana Star), lets you exchange the characters in battle for those who are on the reserves as well, so in a middle of a boss, if a character is low on hp or sp, you can change them for one who is fresh and ready to fight. And so on. That’s why it is advisable to maximize as many Social Links as you can (but don’t forget to boost your social stats from time to time!).

So, the story is great, the gameplay is addictive… and the music is downright REBELLIOUS. It’s so good that it makes you wanna put on a mask and go out to reform society in a costume. There are songs that you’ll never see – alright, I’ll stop. It’s just… I love 'Last Surprise’ so much. And 'Rivers in the Desert’. And 'With the Stars and Us’, especially the piano version, my goodness, is that a tear in my eye…?

At the end of the game, I found myself whispering how good it was. It was beautiful, and I cried, although it’s not a sad story. I cried because of how good, how joyful it was, because of how many laughs it gave me; I cried because it conveyed many feelings, it made me feel rage, sadness, pity, happiness, rage again, betrayal, surprise… I was amazed by how clever the story went, by how well implemented each mechanic was. I really don’t know how Atlus can top this game, but I’m sure they will, and Persona 5 won’t be the 'last surprise’, I hope.

I really am glad that this game exists. I waited for it not so much, because I entered the Persona world (and I’ve been sucked into it forever now) last year, but still, a few months of delay felt like an eternity, and by the end of March, I was yearning for this to finally be released.

I do have one complaint. Tiny. I really wished there were more easter eggs and references to past Persona games. I know you can see Rise’s poster, and also Kanami’s (which makes, unfortunately, Persona 4 Dancing All Night canon), and that they mention the other 'ace detective’, referring to Naoto Shirogane. I’ve read but not found that they also mention another detective with red sunglasses, making an allusion to Katsuya Suou, older brother of Tatsuya from Persona 2. But still, I was waiting for that trip to Inaba, or to Tatsumi Port Island, or to come across at least Yu Narukami. Something… more. But I guess we’ll see Akira interacting with previous wild card wielders in the not so far away future (yeah, you guessed it, most probably Persona 5 Arena is being developed right now). I just wished they put something more obvious into the game.

But that’s it. I want Atlus to keep on creating games, to keep on surprising me. If you’re a fan of the series, this game will blow your mind, because it brings everything from past games and make it better. If you’re new to the series, this game will blow your mind as well, but you’ll have a difficult time adjusting to the previous ones, if you ever wish to play them (I recommend it though, even Persona 2 Innocent Sin). All in all, it’s an excellent, EXCELLENT, jrpg, and everything we’ve been waiting for.

Persona 5 doesn’t disappoint.

I like AUs and doubling, so I’m sure we can figure something out. I am also leokumi trash and can play either… though I’d rather do Corrin/Leo and Corrin/Takumi. I also like Sakura/Elise! I’ll also play Fang/Lightning), Zidane/Garnet, Cecil/Kain (Cecil) etc. There are others. I’ve played almost every Final Fantasy except the online ones, so just ask. There are a few canons I play that I’ll pair with ocs, like Noel Kreiss for example. This is probably the only place you’ll catch me for mxf. I would really love a Ramza for one of my ocs as well? I’ve played all of the Tales of games released in the US EXCEPT for Eternia and Vesperia. That doesn’t mean you can’t play these characters! I’m totally down for Asch/OC and will try and accommodate you as well. I also recently bought Tales of Berseria. I’m only about 40ish hours into it, so no spoilers!

The World Ends With You. I play Josh. Mostly looking for a Neku or whomever you want to throw at me. I’d prefer AUs (kind of have a basic idea for one) or post-game. Please, for the love of all things holy, do not play Neku as a weak willed little thing who won’t tell Josh to go eff himself if he doesn’t like what Josh is doing. We can also do a whole new Game with all ocs.

The Legend of Zelda. I’m looking for a Link and am looking to do a brand new Zelda roleplay where we split the cast and have fun times~! I have a male oc. There doesn’t need to be romance, but I would like there to be. I can play Ravio, Zelda, humanized Sidon, Revali (maybe), or Midna for one of your ocs, if you’d like. With Breath of the Wild out, I’d be happy to do something similar to that, too.

Devil Survivor 2. I want to play the main character (Hibiki/Hiro/MC) against a Yamato LIKE BURNING Also, Shin Megami Tensei IV, I’d love a Flynn/Walter chaos route roleplay where I play Flynn.

Kingdom Hearts. I kind of want to do an all-original setting with new Keyblade wielders, new villains and everything. We’d each play a keyblade wielder or something and fill out the cast. If you’re not up for that, I do love SoraxRiku–I’ll be playing Sora. (I love this ship with my whole heart.)

Final Fantasy. I’m cool with most things here. Some characters I play are Lightning (my favorite), Cecil Harvey, Yuna, Cloud Strife, Kadaj, Vanille, Terra Branford, Garnet til Alexandros/Dagger, Bartz, Faris, Noel Kreiss, Ramza (Tactics), and some others here and there. Some of the ships I play are Lightning/adult!Hope (I play Lightning and have some au ideas for this), Zack/Cloud (I play Cloud), Tidus/Yuna (I play Yuna), Fang/Vanille (I play Vanille. I’ll also play Fang/Lightning), Zidane/Garnet, Cecil/Kain (Cecil) etc. There are others. I’ve played almost every Final Fantasy except the online ones, so just ask. There are a few canons I play that I’ll pair with ocs, like Noel Kreiss for example. This is probably the only place you’ll catch me for mxf. I would really love a Ramza for one of my ocs as well? Like I said, I’ll play certain canons for you, too! … or maybe just something with Final Fantasy Tactics in general.

Addendum: I just finished FFXV and would love to try out being Noctis–looking for Gladio, Ignis, or Prompto–or a mix of all four. We can discuss but my favorite ship is IgNoct. Will be happy to do Promptis or GladNoct, too.

Bravely Default/Bravely Second. Ringabel/Edea, otp for life. I’d like to play Edea. Also willing to consider Tiz/Agnes (Tiz.) or Yew/Magnolia. (Magnolia.) Prefer an AU for this. I won’t do this genre without Ringabel/Edea, though, keep that in mind.

Parasite Eve. Does anyone even know what this is? We can discuss–ocs, canons, I’m sure we can figure something out.

  Pokemon. I have a male Elite Four trainer I’d like to use against any character. I have a couple other trainers here and there. Why not, bring it on. If you want romance, it has to be m/m for this. I don’t mind gijinkas or whatever they’re called. I also beat Sun/Moon! So we can do some Alola stuff! Maybe a plot with the Ultra Beasts? Neaaaat.

Ace Attorney. Okay, okay. I only do canon/oc for this one, fam. I’ve also only played the first three games and Ace Attorney Investigations. I’m looking for a Miles Edgeworth to my male oc and for you, I can play Franziska von Karma for fxf. Might be talked into playing Phoenix Wright for you, depending on your oc. 

ATLA. I have a male earth bending oc (with a spirit pal who follows him) that I’ll do mxm with. I’m really up for anything here, except LoK verse since he doesn’t seem to fit in there so well. Canons? OCs? Sure, whatever. I’ll leave it open. You wanna test a new OC or practice a canon against him? Cool.

There are also a few fandoms that I play, but only with an oc cast such as: Dead Space, Gravity Rush, Fatal Frame, Etrian Odyssey, and Silent Hill. Note: for Silent Hill, I will NOT be playing romance.

As for Silent Hill… I’m up for putting canons in a Silent Hill verse as well as using originals.

The same goes for The Last of Us. Canons in a TLOU universe could be fun. Same with ocs. I’m a little out of touch with this, though. It’s been a while.

Maybe something based on Transistor? Or YoKai Watch? Yomawari Night Alone? Hey, maybe some creepy Japanese horror with a haunted town in the vein of Yomawari?

Suggest! If it’s along the lines of what’s mentioned above, then by all means. Other fandoms are: Okami (Human form!Amaterasu), a 999/Zero Escape based roleplay, Demon Gaze, Dragon’s Crown, Animal Crossing (humanized villagers), and more. Hi, my name is Coll! I’m a 29 year old lady with a full time standard 9-5 job. That said, I have some free time on my hands. I’d really love some new RPs.  =D I’m very friendly and willing to plot. I mostly roleplay video games and original plots.

A few things about me:

- I am looking for people who play in the third person and post multiple paragraphs in their responses. (Please give me at least 3 paragraphs and I’ll be happy with that. Anything less and I get put out and most likely will not respond back to you out of disappointment ^^; Sorry.) I will also match my partner’s response length. Also, please have a decent grasp of grammar and spelling. I won’t respond if you message me in all chatspeak. When you message me, also, please have an idea of what you want to do. “Hi, wanna RP?” is kind of unacceptable. Of course I want to roleplay–that’s why I put the add up.

- My hard limits are rape, vore, mpreg (good god no mpreg never ever mpreg), pedophilia, and a few others in between, but those are the big ones. If you ask for any of these four things, I will delete your post immediately. I don’t mind rape being mentioned in a backstory, but I won’t play it out. I’m not too keen on large age gaps unless we’re playing a supernatural creature with a human. They need to look about the same age.

- I don’t really care for unhealthy ships. I don’t like cheating or abuse in relationships–that sort of stuff. I’m not about that life. - I am a slash (both mxm and fxf) roleplayer. I will not tolerate seme/uke paradigms. You will play a switch or there will be no smut. There are only certain canon ships I’ll do mxf for. (like Lightning/adult!Hope or Tidus/Yuna for example.) I won’t do mxf for originals.

- I will only accept roleplayers who are 21+. If I find out you’re under my age limit, I’m going to delete you immediately.

- All kinks are based off of character preference, not my own. I’m also not really a kinky person. Sorry about that.

- I like canonxoc for certain canons. If I play a canon for you, I expect you to play one for me. Compromise! Some ships I will not do canonxoc for.

- I know this sounds like me being a hard ass, but I really like becoming friends with my partners and exchanging headcanons and songs!

- I roleplay through email only. No exceptions.

- I try to post every day. I really do. Sometimes, I’m just too tired to do so. ^^;;; Be patient with me. Weekends get hectic because I’m in a couple DnD campaigns.

- Once the roleplay gets off the ground, I have skype. You can ask for it–but only after intros are exchanged. Every time I’ve given someone my skype before we started, the roleplay never got off the ground.

- If for some reason I stop responding, I legitimately forgot. Just poke me. There are times when I’m at work and look at an email and forget to respond to it later because i thought I did.

Fire Emblem Fates. This, here, is what I’m craving the most. I’ve played all three paths, but prefer Conquest and Revelation. I want to play Corrin. (Male.) and am open to ships. (As long as they’re mxm and fxf.) I’m mostly looking for a Xander (!!! Boy, I want Xander the most. Xander/Corrin happens to be my otp.), Leo (!!), Takumi (!), or Silas. I also ship Selena and Camilla. (I play Selena.) I like AUs and doubling, so I’m sure we can figure something out. I am also leokumi trash and can play either… though I’d rather do Corrin/Leo and Corrin/Takumi. I also like Sakura/Elise! (Slight preference toward Sakura.) I much prefer AUs and am willing to hash something out with you. No OCs for this. Sorry.

Persona. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to do a Persona or Persona based roleplay!. My favorite pairing for Persona is Yu/Souji/ProtagonistxYosuke. I play Yosuke. I am seriously craving another Yu/Yosuke roleplay like woah. We can discuss this. I also REALLY like the idea of the P3 Female Protagonist/MinakoxMitsuru. I’d be playing the female protagonist. Addendum: Just finished Persona 5, am interested in playing Akira–or maybe we could do our own team of Phantom Thieves? Really dig the concept. I do like Akira/Yusuke and Ann/Makoto–will play Akira and Makoto. I am also interested in an Akechi redemption line, but I won’t pair him with Akira. Others I can play are Futaba and Haru.

With Breath of the Wild out, I'd be happy to do something similar to that, too.

Devil Survivor 2. I want to play the main character (Hibiki/Hiro/MC) against a Yamato LIKE BURNING Also, Shin Megami Tensei IV, I'd love a Flynn/Walter chaos route roleplay where I play Flynn.

Kingdom Hearts. I kind of want to do an all-original setting with new Keyblade wielders, new villains and everything. We'd each play a keyblade wielder or something and fill out the cast. If you're not up for that, I do love SoraxRiku--I'll be playing Sora. (I love this ship with my whole heart.)

Final Fantasy. I'm cool with most things here. Some characters I play are Lightning (my favorite), Cecil Harvey, Yuna, Cloud Strife, Kadaj, Vanille, Terra Branford, Garnet til Alexandros/Dagger, Bartz, Faris, Noel Kreiss, Ramza (Tactics), and some others here and there. Some of the ships I play are Lightning/adult!Hope (I play Lightning and have some au ideas for this), Zack/Cloud (I play Cloud), Tidus/Yuna (I play Yuna), Fang/Vanille (I play Vanille. I'll also play Fang/Lightning), Zidane/Garnet, Cecil/Kain (Cecil) etc. There are others. I've played almost every Final Fantasy except the online ones, so just ask. There are a few canons I play that I'll pair with ocs, like Noel Kreiss for example. This is probably the only place you'll catch me for mxf. I would really love a Ramza for one of my ocs as well? Like I said, I'll play certain canons for you, too! ... or maybe just something with Final Fantasy Tactics in general.

Addendum: I just finished FFXV and would love to try out being Noctis--looking for Gladio, Ignis, or Prompto--or a mix of all four. We can discuss but my favorite ship is IgNoct. Will be happy to do Promptis or GladNoct, too.

  Bravely Default/Bravely Second. Ringabel/Edea, otp for life. I'd like to play Edea. Also willing to consider Tiz/Agnes (Tiz.) or Yew/Magnolia. (Magnolia.) Prefer an AU for this. I won't do this genre without Ringabel/Edea, though, keep that in mind.

Parasite Eve. Does anyone even know what this is? We can discuss--ocs, canons, I'm sure we can figure something out.

    Pokemon. I have a male Elite Four trainer I'd like to use against any character. I have a couple other trainers here and there. Why not, bring it on. If you want romance, it has to be m/m for this. I don't mind gijinkas or whatever they're called. I also beat Sun/Moon! So we can do some Alola stuff! Maybe a plot with the Ultra Beasts? Neaaaat.

Ace Attorney. Okay, okay. I only do canon/oc for this one, fam. I've also only played the first three games and Ace Attorney Investigations. I'm looking for a Miles Edgeworth to my male oc and for you, I can play Franziska von Karma for fxf. Might be talked into playing Phoenix Wright for you, depending on your oc. 

ATLA. I have a male earth bending oc (with a spirit pal who follows him) that I'll do mxm with. I'm really up for anything here, except LoK verse since he doesn't seem to fit in there so well. Canons? OCs? Sure, whatever. I'll leave it open. You wanna test a new OC or practice a canon against him? Cool.

There are also a few fandoms that I play, but only with an oc cast such as: Dead Space, Gravity Rush, Fatal Frame, Etrian Odyssey, and Silent Hill. Note: for Silent Hill, I will NOT be playing romance.

As for Silent Hill... I'm up for putting canons in a Silent Hill verse as well as using originals.

The same goes for The Last of Us. Canons in a TLOU universe could be fun. Same with ocs. I'm a little out of touch with this, though. It's been a while.

Maybe something based on Transistor? Or YoKai Watch? Yomawari Night Alone? Hey, maybe some creepy Japanese horror with a haunted town in the vein of Yomawari?

Suggest! If it’s along the lines of what’s mentioned above, then by all means. Other fandoms are: Okami (Human form!Amaterasu), a 999/Zero Escape based roleplay, Demon Gaze, Dragon’s Crown, Animal Crossing (humanized villagers), and more. Seriously, just ask. Ask away. I know some older animes but video games? I most likely know it, especially if it’s an RPG. I’m also a fan of AUs.
