Here’s my take on the whole audio books vs. reading:
Oral tradition of storytelling predates written ones by millennias, and honestly, which one you like is just a personal preference.
The actual difference is
when listening, you have no idea how to write characters’ names
when reading, you have no idea how to pronounce characters’ names
hope this helps!
#audio books vs reading#honestly this debate is just pineapple on pizza again#personally i like reading better#i’m a poor listener and since i read faster than people talk i get bored and my mind starts to wander#but who gives a shit#just do what works best for you#in the end we all get the same story#oh and this post is about stories in english#in finnish you rarely have either problem

I made a little comic about clover being happy cause the bean deserves it! In not proficient in comics, so im sorry if anything is hard to understand!
(the order of pannels is top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right lol)
Also, even if theyre living with martlet in this, starlo and ceroba definitely have shared custody
The idea was based on the thought that clover coming from a not-so-good envoirment gets really exited at the smalles things, while martlet is overly worried about making it nice for them :)
Enjoy!
#i totally didnt mess up by assuming martlets boots were claws and noticed only after i finnished haha#i hate drawing food#also sorry to people reading my handwriting#uty#uty clover#undertale yellow#uty martlet#clover undertale yellow#clover#ut yellow

doodled your little guys!!! I have so many thoughts about them. As someone who lives in Italy it has been absolutely wonderful seeing your characters express the country's culture and history!!! It's not often that I see characters be based off Italian history in such an artistic manner.. But that might be me living under a rock, LOL. Anyhow, keep doing what you do, YOU ROCK!!!!
.
#aaa you're too sweet! ;_;#and the art!!#I don't know what you did but I love the way they look in your style#they seem so expressive and alive and your linework has such wonderful almost animated fluidity to it#that swooping line from the tip of Machete's ear to his cheek fluff? such a shape#their faces are priceless#Vasco's little blep and Machete's blush and squiggly mouth#thank you so much! you've warmed my heart#gift art#limelemonchi#Vasco#Machete#own characters#it genuinely means a lot to me when someone from Italy says they like my dogs#I'm Finnish so I'm never going to have the insider experience and the full picture of someone who lives there#and sometimes it really worries me like what if I get things wrong and I'm not only embarrassing myself#but also disappointing people who thought I do my research well#but I'm doing my best and I always welcome feedback and tips to make the setting more believable if you want to give them#whether it's the original canon or the modern au#I mean it when I say the history and culture of Italy are extraordinarily rich and interesting#I've been reading about them long before these two came to be#it's a meeting spot for many of my special interests some of which I've had since I was a preschooler

I think the biggest culture shock I experienced in Finland so far is around friendships, as well as the area where I learned a lot of valuable things about myself. I might not be entirely right about this as I've only been here for a short time, but those are my main take-aways:
(under the cut to not block ur tags w my english rambling)
Trying to build real friendships takes time, much longer than in my home country. It is relatively easy to get in contact with Germans in my experience, especially if you live in a bigger city and speak the language, ESPECIALLY if you are a student and just starting out in a new phase of your life. You will naturally hang out frequently if you match well and spend a lot of time together. It might take a few meetings before people will invite u to their home, but generally there's not much distance as soon as the ice is broken.
Here I feel like people are much slower and more reluctant to open up. But that doesn't equal rejection, it's simply a slower process and you will still be able to tell the difference between being rejected and being on the path of friendship. In Germany, it's usually a lot more fast paced and there is a small window you have to catch to get into tight friendgroups. If you miss it, no chance of ever going back, vibe gone chance gone. Also people who might have found you interesting could lose interest if you wait for too long (meaning usually a month or so) to get back to them.
I actually realized that this way of socializing stresses me tf out. I much prefer a more laid back approach where you can get to know each other without time limitations (of course prerequisite is that you have the time). It is a much more sustainable, thoughtful and respectful approach to someone elses time. You're not treated as disposable, but rather as a person someone actively chooses to get to know.
Likewise, if people feel like they either do not vibe with you or if they already have a very busy social life or life in general, they will let you know and don't pretend to have time or like you. This was quite a new thing to me and felt a bit cold, but I actually really appreciate it now, as it's saving you from stressful, draining interpersonal connections. It also made me respect some people immensely, because they know their own self worth and boundaries quite well.
It made me reflect upon my tendency to be a people pleaser, and the strong yearning I have to treat my own relationships the same way as I've experienced it here. I've grown so tired of superficial connections that are placeholders for true, fulfilling friendships. I used to think being lonely was the worst thing in the world. It kind of is still awful, but what's worse is being surrounded by a bunch of people you don't really click with or can rely on, which leaves you lonely as well. I do think letting go of this is something that will slowly seep over into my own life, as it is so freeing.
I also intend on staying, or rather coming back when I've finished up all my business back in Germany (I am not really rooted to the city I live in). People who I've told about this recent development were very worried if I would be able to be happy in a country that is (generally) much more reserved when it comes to social interaction, as I need social interaction regularly. I don't really think it's that big of an issue, as I think I can balance out people's passive approach with my more active one in the beginning. I have a high social battery, so I'm fine with interacting with a few more people, before people get truly comfortable to hang out on the regular. Yet I also prefer quality interactions over a bunch of small talk meetups I don't care about. I also still have my core friends who I talk to regularly on the phone, and this has been a tradition for years already before I came here.
What I am immensely struggling with right now is trying to make sense of all the connections I made in the past 10 years. This is the 6th city I lived in the last decade, and the 8th move. All my relationships feel so spread out and scattered. I am holding on to some solely because those people were there when I moved somewhere new and I didn't have anyone else. Like back in school, when I was friends with people because they were the only ones there. It's all a bit confusing and painful right now, as my values and perspectives are changing. I think there are a lot of people moving from the friends to acquaintance category right now. I'm completely redefining friendships for me at the moment.
#is it appropriate to tag this with#suomipaskaa#also finnish people seeing this and agreeing or disagreeing or wanting to add on to this#please do tell#I am curious about this and open to hearing various perspectives#as this is my limited generalized opinion after living here for a few months

I'm gonna try to post more doll photos here on Tumblr.
These were taken in the "Ihmeellinen pieni maailma" miniature fair in Espoo, Finland in 2024. The art workshop diorama was created by Susanna, the Ken and Kaarna doll story creator.
The dolls Ken (orange dress), Kaarna (short blue-dyed hair, Mackie sculpt, orange shirt that says "Fuck The Universe", and Mari (the blonde who models for the live drawing) are characters from the Ken and Kaarna doll story.
There were a bunch of dolls from many different people visiting the diorama, it was very fun.
My dolls pictured here visiting the diorama: the guitar-playing Kit (Barbie Looks) with the skull top, the cyrvy Daya fashionista hybrid with the paint-splattered white coat, Becky (the wheelchair user), Trichelle MTM hybrid with the green and black crop top.

I wish that Kari Grandi, kaikkien janoisten sankari, saves Eve from (alleged) dehydration
I'll rewrite the story so this can be the end scene. Kari Grandi... thank you for the juice.
#ask#vampuuri#eve#meemies#Kari Grandi was an extravagantly heroic juice box man in old Finnish TV ads#he was always saving dehydraded people everywhere. I think those people were beautiful kidnapped women more than once...#and I did not in any point foresee him in the context of my comic

Dr. Professor I have a question. Maybe it has been talked about before and I had missed forgot it, is there any correlation between English articles and Finnish language? Ik Finnish doesn't have articles, but maybe there are context clues?
In other words, does Jere have any reason to keep saying "The Bojan"?
Anon, have you been spying on me? Can you read my mind? Because I have been thinking about The Bojan a lot lately. Mostly trying to figure out if he uses the article for literally anyone else, and I honestly cannot, of the top of my head, think of examples of him using The in front of anyone elses name as consistently as he does with Bojan.
So here's the thing. There basically isn't any correlation between Finnish and English articles, and so I cannot like point to a specific thing that would make him do that. But I can guess at the connections he makes.
I think sometimes he uses it to translate Finnish words like "toi", which is a spoken language/colloquial version of "tuo", literally translating to "that" in English. There isn't like a direct equivalent in English to use as an example of why we use "toi" like that, because like, "that Bojan" is not the same vibe as "toi Bojan".
Instances where i think this would make sense are moments like:
"Who did you connect with in Eurovision?"
"The Bojan."
If the conversation was in colloquial Finnish, it would not sound out of place of him to say something like "toi, tota, Bojan."
It's like a filler word, spoken out loud it can even be sort of drawn out (almost like just to make a sound, like "umm") but it's one that you would use when you can reasonably assume the listener knows the person you're talking about (at least in his regional dialect, i know some dialects might use it differently, but i speak the same dialect as him and this is my feeling on it.)
Which takes us to how articles in English are taught to us: the is to be used, instead of a or an, when we're already familiar with the subject. A cat is "a cat" only once in a story, before turning into "the cat".
So, i think he keeps saying The Bojan, because he simply assumes everyone knows who Bojan is. Bojan doesn't need an introduction or a qualification. Others get titles or explanations: "my sister wife Alessandra" or "my friend Joost", "manager Jesse" or "guitar man Jukka"... everyone else gets a title that explains who they are to him. Bojan doesn't need that, and Jere seems to have a reason to believe everyone knows who Bojan is. So he's not just any random Bojan. He is The Bojan, you know the one. And if you don't, you should.
#other finnish people feel free to jump in if you have other theories or have cracked the code on the bojan#käärijä#bojan cvjetićanin

so what I gathered from today’s urheilucast episode is:
- jere and pekka had a half year whatsapp bromance before they met
- they have also been spooning at the cabin
- jere says it’s nice to spoon with such big guy and that pekka has been protecting him from all the bad things
- jere says pekka’s calves are thicker than his thighs (and pekka answers he has gazelle calves)
- the group has had deep conversations about life while wine drunk
- jere made $40k in OF during december
- jere has also shown his OF videos to pekka (and pekka said they are great entertainment)
- jere said they are going to make more OF content and it’s going to be even dirtier (he tried to get pekka to be his dick stunt double)
- and now esko is trying to get pekka to join jere’s OF (the plan was to have some kind of passionate sauna session and with pekka only in his hockey groin protector)
- they are also talking as if jere is sitting in pekka’s lap the whole podcast
- in their last game jere’s legs were tired so he was bending over, but now the others think it’s because he wanted to be whipped (which had apprently happened already before??)
- then esko added that jere has been repeatedly saying ’kipu kiihottaa’ (’pain turns me on’) throughout the weekend
- to which jere replies that he is a bit of a masochist and that he gains happiness and feels alive when he gets beaten up
- also apparently the whipping made him to start scoring goals in the hockey game
- lastly they accidentally stole a bottle of soda from some random little kids at the store but the kids contacted jere through ig and he went to return the soda
#käärijä#pekka rinne#urheilucast#esko seppänen#hockey#some little crumbs for you non-finnish speaking people💕#jere pöyhönen
