This is a strange question and it's really more something to muse over than a question that has an answer, but do you suppose that Katharine Hepburn might have had ADHD, or something like it? I've been reading her book on the making of The African Queen and I've noticed these tangents that she takes that are very similar to the way my own train of thought works. And I've been watching this (https://youtu.be/rqFzFyWnnhs) interview with her and there's a part where she talks about being unable to focus in school because she was so "thrilled with life that [she] couldn't concentrate" but that she is able to devote attention to "certain things that interest [her] enormously, but [she's] totally one-track!"

Anyway, this has just been something that has been building up in the back of my mind and you are the first Katharine Hepburn person I think of.

If you haven't seen the Dick Cavett interview already, I can't recommend it enough. She's hilarious.

And yes i’ve thought this too! I’ve also kind of wondered if she might’ve been on the spectrum as well. She seemed to have a kind of black and white, all or nothing way of thinking and a very strong sense of justice. Those are maybe the most obvious (possibly autistic) traits i’ve noticed in her (there’s more but i won’t get into that now bc that’d be a long post).

I have adhd myself and I remember watching that Dick Cavett interview for the first time and having to pause to speculate when she said that about not being able to focus in school because it’s so relatable😭.

Also yes i’ve seen the Cavett interviews they’re sooo good!! I haven’t read the book you mentioned but i imagine those tangents are similar to the ones she goes on in the interviews. She keeps accidentally changing the subject by focusing on irrelevant details and what not while telling her stories and it is so funny because that’s exactly how i sound trying to tell a story.

Anyway i can’t say anything for sure but i don’t think she was neurotypical
