Not like actually, but he's an even closer match than The Criminal

Impressively high IQ, kid genius, considers himself an artist, Harleen's psychological profile is almost identical to the one I made for Jeremiah, they have the same look in their eyes (I don't know how to explain that one, but I swear I took one look at him and all I could see in those cold blue eyes was Jeremiah), made what I would consider a "battery bomb from Hell" in the GCPD basement.

I swear to y'all, the biggest difference is that this Joker has Jerome's haircut and wears all leather. Other than that he IS Jeremiah.

What I believe would have happened to all the batkids if Bruce hadn't come in and been Batman, dark version-

Dick- he would have been consumed by vengeance and tried to kill Tony Zucco without Bruce’s guidance and support. Would have tried. He is dead by age eight. If he succeeds at killing Zucco, he is immediately caught by the police commissioner. At eight years old Dick Grayson is thrown in jail. He dies two years later, still behind bars. If he escapes the cops, he succumbs to his Talon nature as his tooth is not bitch slapped out of him by his father figure. He becomes a Talon and works for the Court of Owls, always present but never truly in control.

Jason- Jason never meets Bruce, never steals his tires, never gets killed by joker. He does not die at age 15. He doesn't even make it to age fourteen. He dies in an alleyway in Gotham, on a cold winters night, alone at age twelve. 

Tim- Tim does not stalk Batman and Robin. He is neglected by his parents and because there is no neighbor for him to stay with(cough cough bruce) Janet and Jack Drake take him with them on their cruise. Tim Drake is skinny as a bean pole and underweight. He gets rocked off the side and drowns because he never learned how to swim. 

Babs- Barbara Gordon becomes a detective just like her father at a very young age and makes it her mission to capture all the villains in Gotham. She succeeds almost and has about half of them in Arkam when she falls into a Joker trap. Due to the lack of technological access, she dies of a fatal wound at age twenty. 

Steph- Stephanie does not become a vigilante because of her father because he is taken down by Detective Gordon(age 18) before she has a chance to. Babs sees herself in the ten year old girl and starts to teach her how to be a detective and work with the law instead of outside it like vigilantes do. They create a strong bond however after Barbara dies Stephanie seeks revenge and is about to kill Joker when she gets shot from behind by none other than her own father, Arthur Brown, because with Detective Gordon out of the way he had a massive prison break. She dies at age 13. 

Cass- cass escapes from her father after her first killing and flees to Gotham, but without the protection of the Bat is captured by her father again and forced to become Ra’s Al Ghul’s bodyguard. Sickened with the death and killing required of her Cass committed suicide, but continually got resurrected by the pit until she could stand it no longer and stayed. 

Damian- Damian is never born, as there is no Batman. Talia never becomes pregnant with him. She does however, create a child with another assassin who is her lover and she gives birth to a strong, healthy boy named Aziz. He grows stronger every day until the day he turns twenty three, when Ra’s Al Ghul puts him in the pit and absorbs his youth, the same fate that would have befallen Damian had he stayed with the league(or in this case even been created).

Sometimes there’s a moment where you know things will never be the same. A turning point in a person’s life, if you will. It could be as monumental as the moment of the wrongful death of a loved one, leading to an obsession to right the wrong that had happened. It could also be something as trivial as bumping into a person at a coffee shop, leading to finding the love of one’s life. For Barbara Gordon, it was a simple click on a link.

It had started a week ago. Three meta-humans had attacked Jason, Cass, and Damian while on patrol. Seeing as all three family members had some connection to the League of Assassins, the first idea was that they were assassins. The fact that they seemed to glow a Lazarus Green color only provided more evidence for that theory. But as soon as someone verbally confronted them, the theory crumbled under its weight.

“They had called themselves Ghosts,” Cass had signed with their face screwed in confusion. They had emphasized the last word, marking it as important. The rest of the night hadn’t given her much besides debunking the Assassin theory. While she couldn’t do groundwork anymore, she is still one of the if not the best, digital detective on the team. She had made a file and labeled it accordingly, then she had started her search with the keyword ‘Ghost’.

It had taken her 2 days between her day job and getting roughly 3 hours of sleep to find what might have been a lead. A self-published research paper by the Drs. Fenton titled ‘Effective Warding Techniques Against Ghosts’. Barbara had spent 3 hours reading the paper, scanning every detail for information. She could barely find anything useful at the end of those three hours. A lot of it was opinions worded through a scientific lens and not actual scientific facts.

Spurred on by the lack of information, she searched for other papers in their names. Yet, the majority of it was filled with the same content. Descriptions of creatures in agony while being remarked as'manipulative' and ‘non-feeling’ by the two doctors. She knew this needed to be brought up to Bruce and the Justice League as a whole, but she needed more information for the presentation. Thankfully, she had the next day off, and she began a more detailed search of the doctors.

They had documents claiming them to be doctors, with Madeline and Jack both holding doctorates in biology and master's in engineering with minors in Supernatural Studies, but she couldn't find any records of their college days. A handful of papers referenced in the other self-published research papers had Vlad Masters as another co-author, but that dropped after Vlad’s accident. That set off alarm bells in her detective sense, allowing her to dive deeper into her research.

She was nearing the end of her research binge on the doctors and was gearing towards Vlad Masters when she spotted a weirdly named Web link on the last page of her search engine of choice. Thinking it was something similar to the doctor’s papers, she clicked on the link. While it wasn’t another research paper, it was something that grabbed her attention. A halfway-done website wouldn’t have been published unless they were hiding something, so she opened the source code, hoping to easily crack the passcode and start snooping around in whatever was hidden.

The code was surprising, to say the least. The code itself was the same Lazarus Green color as the Ghosts, changing languages every 7 seconds - yes, she had timed it -, and moving in a scattered pattern. The code fought back as soon as the cursor was placed in the text box, with the creator not far behind. With her getting little sleep and the surprise of the abnormalities in the code, she ended up losing against the person on the other side of the screen. With her loss, her screen turned black with a green I-beam in the left-hand corner. A message was written behind it.

<I don’t recognize your system. Who are you? What is your affiliation>

Barbara looked at the question before checking on the burner phone she had bought for this reason. They hadn’t touched any files, even though they had full access to her civilian computer. She went the complement route and hoped to get more information on what lay ahead.

<It has been a while since someone had bested me. You should be proud.>

<I will not ask again. Who are you and what is your affiliation?>

Barbara’s hope of the other hackers’ pride getting to them and spilling what they’re hiding diminished with their quick response. She debated her options mentally. She could lean on luck, tell the truth, and hope the person on the other side is an ally in her search. She could also make up a lie and hope they won’t see through it. While she was debating, a new message appeared.

<You have one minute to respond, or else I will destroy your system.>

It seemed the decision was made for her. Even if she were to call their slightly plausible bluff, there were way too many important files on her computer, including the one she was building against the Fentons. Plus, she had yet to receive a notification on her burner phone about a breach.

<I go by the name Oracle while online. My employer may need this information. Can you unlock my computer?>

<Only if I monitor your actions.>

It was a fair request, one she would make in their situation. From their perspective, she was an outsider wanting to look at something personal to them. She could handle a little monitoring if she could find a crack in this case.

<Deal.>

When the black screen disappeared, a light gray followed behind it, giving the website an industrial feel. Black text filled the tabs across the top of the screen, listing labels like 'Ghost Basics’, ‘Rouge Abilities’, and one with a lock emoji, among others. This was a hero database, given the mentions of rouges.

The database belonged to a group of small-town vigilantes, with the person she was conversing with filling in the guy in the chair role. She could tell they were young, with mentions of having to skip class or needing to find an excuse for the team’s main hero, Phantom. Just reading their rouge descriptions, as sloppy as they are compared to the bat’s, she could tell a lot about their team and how they worked.

She kept reading on about the rouges themselves. Even though the pictures were a blurry mess -similar to the stills she had asked Tim to try and clean up -, she could get some information through the written portion of the reports. Everything thing she was learning was leaving her increasingly shaken.

Needing a break from the rouges list, she looks to the Phantom tab to see if the Justice League needs to extend a hand or if they have it under control. She hovered her mouse over Phantom’s tab, only a tab away from the locked emoji. Right before she was about to click, her screen turned black again. Their previous conversation looked back at her, and a slight weight settled on her shoulders. On the other side of the screen was a child.

A child.

A child on an entire team of children being attacked by beings with the power levels of gods; who are being hindered by the very people they protect. At the very least, Robin had Batman, or even their junior teams, if something happened. She looks at the new message.

<Phantom is off-limits.>

She needed to keep the connection. Something is happening in Amity Park. Something big. She can feel it in her bones. Racking her brain for ways to keep the connection, she thought back to how unorganized and messy their reports seemed. Mentorship seemed like a good way to go with the kid.

<Your Phantom’s guy in the chair, right? I can help you with that.>

The next message was apprehensive, much like talking to an Alley kid. She should’ve expected this. She was a stranger who had attempted to hack into their database and then offered help with nothing in return. It had caught their attention, though, which was good enough for her.

<What’s the catch? Nobody would do that for free.>

<You seem to know a lot about Ghosts. We had a few show up in Gotham recently. You help me relay the information to Batman and the others tomorrow, then we can talk about our mentorship.>

It took a few minutes to get a reply, but that was okay. It gave her time to clear off her desk and start getting the papers strewed about in order.

<Let me talk with my team.>

<Take as long as you need.>

She continued cleaning up her apartment while she waited. While it wasn’t trashed, it wasn’t clean either. Taking empty snack bags and water bottles from the top of overflowing trashcans and putting them in a separate bag was repetitive and mind-numbing enough to pass the time. She set the filled bags by the door and rolled back to her desk, pushing the desk chair out of her way. It would be stupid to go out this late. She was finishing organizing the paper notes she took over the three days when she got a response.

<I accept. I am not giving you more access though.>

Her screen returned to normal; the same gray greeted her back. The only change was a small, lime-green chat bubble in the bottom left corner. She spent the next three hours getting a feel for Pharaoh’s setup while gathering more information on the team for her reports. She still had to collect information for the Justice League for them to look at what's happening ground-level. After three hours, she closed the database.

She told the bats, via group chat, that she had found answers to their meta case that needed to be discussed in person tomorrow. After closing the group chat, she checked the locks on the door for the second time that day. Assuring herself it was locked, she wheeled to her bedroom, locked her chair by the bed, and then pulled herself into bed. She went to sleep relatively easy, unknowing of the bombshell that would be dropped tomorrow night.

Batman; Gotham by Gaslight

Within the annals of cultural, pop cultural, and historical crime, there are few whose macabre methods could reach the bloody depths that 'yours truly,' Jack the Ripper, managed to plumb.

Five brutal deaths were all it took for that deadly name to resound for Five centuries. The echo of the deed has so scarred the psyche of man that Man collectively found 'champions' of their own to face the blood-soaked beast on the battlefield of 'what if' in an attempt, perhaps, to find a semblance of cold closure on one of the most famous cold cases in history.

A murderer must be hunted by a detective, and there is no more excellent detective at DC's disposal than Batman to solve the mystery of Jack the Ripper. It is a contest between legendary figures, a Dark Knight on a quest to capture a monster, two ghosts playing a grisly game of hide-and-seek through the foggy alleys of a Victorian-era Gotham lit not by neon ...but by Gaslight.

Ironically, even though Batman is DC's greatest detective, barely any detective work is done in both the movie and the original comic it is adapted from. Any investigative work done by Batman in both mediums to uncover the identity of Jack is brushed over, and the reveal of the killer's identity had nothing to do with anything Batman had done throughout the narrative.

Ultimately, Batman is almost railroaded into solving the mystery, and the climax is somewhat underwhelming and blunts the effect of the twist reveal of Jack the Ripper's true identity.

YES. Commissioner James Gordon IS Jack the Ripper. This risky reimagining elevated this adaptation to a height that its original comic did not achieve. The twist shocked the system for any DC fan familiar with Batman's relationship with Gordon. It is also expertly hinted at throughout the film for any sharp-eyed viewer interested in a whodunit, as the narrative presented many possible suspects, but Gordon was the only one who would have fit all the facts of the mystery. The twist was further muddied by the inspired decision to design Jack the Ripper to be as angular as possible, while Gordon had a softer, more rounded silhouette.

This culminates in a climactic showdown atop a burning Ferris wheel, which was ironically begun by a knocked-over gas lamp. At the end of a brutally animated brawl, Gordon allows himself to be consumed by the fire of the burning wheel. He is a good man driven into hellfire by his hellish desires. Was he the last evil of a bygone age sacrificed for a better future? Or was he just the latest in a never-ending cycle of self-destruction, doomed to go around in a wheel until the wheel eats itself alive?

Whatever the case, Gotham by Gaslight turned a throwaway 'what if' comic story into a film that embodies everything that makes a Batman story great. The film shows that, even if lit by gas, Gotham is still a city that needs its Dark Knight, regardless of what the city deserves.

Civilian!Bruce AUs are always kind of an interesting topic to discuss because everyone wants to talk about how that might work (what job does Bruce have? Are the kids still vigilantes? What does life in Gotham look like in this universe? etc) but few people ever really talk about the practical logistics of "how does Bruce even meet his kids in an AU like this?" since half of them only ever become involved with Bruce through his activities as Batman

Dick and Jason are ultimately easy enough to sort through, because their introductions to Bruce happen in ways that are very easy to integrate into a world where Bruce isn't Batman: Bruce and Dick's meeting largely goes exactly the way it does in canon and Jason's first meeting with Bruce goes largely unchanged (Bruce going to lay the wreath in Crime Alley on the anniversary of his parents' death and Jason jacking the tires off his car) except Bruce is Bruce rather than Batman.

Cass, meanwhile, is running around Gotham during No Man's Land and gets picked up by Jim and Barbara Gordon, so her introduction isn't too hard either...though justifying Bruce becoming Cass's adoptive father in a world where he's not Batman would be extraordinarily difficult. It's more likely Babs would adopt her at some point, so they'd know each other through Dick and Babs.

Tim and Damian are the really sticky ones here, because in a world where Bruce never became Batman Tim has no reason to ever get involved with the Wayne family in the first place and there's no reason for Bruce to ever meet Talia al Ghul and eventually have Damian. You could theoretically budge Tim in via Bruce meeting him at occasional high society functions once he gets a bit older, but Damian is still largely impossible in a world where Ra's isn't gunning for Bruce to be the heir to his empire

......unless Bruce is a doctor, like his father. Because little known fact about Talia: she was originally introduced as a med student at the University of Cairo:

"Yes...I am Talia, daughter of he who is called Ra's al Ghul! Darrk's henchmen captured me at the University of Cairo! I study medicine there, and..." -Detective Comics (1937) #411

You could easily fit Talia (and thus Damian) into a Civilian!Bruce AU if Bruce is a doctor or another type of medical professional

Batman #200 is about Scarecrow creating a gas that makes Batman and Robin terrified of him. It terrifies Batman and Robin so much that they think about hanging up the cowl, that's until Alfred decides to remind them of why they started this superhero thing in the first place. It does help. Batman and Robin goes out to catch other criminals, like the Joker, Penguin man, and other villains to build their confidence back up again, however when they face the Scarecrow again. It only lasts for so long, and they're petrified of him once again, but in the end they fight through and win the fight when they're reminded about their parents death. 7 out of 10

Batman #201 is about all Batman's villains coming to his recuse. They all decide they can only murder the Batman, so the thugs who begin to sets theses traps to murder the Batman, fails everytime because Batman villains is secretly helping him from being killed by the thugs. This includes the Joker by the way. Plus Batman wonders who saving him, although he never finds out. 9 out of 10

Batman #202 is about Robin getting involve with a gang of motorcycle marauders, and he misses the school election. He wounds up shedding a tear at home. He realizes how much this job effects his life. 4 out of 10

Batman #203 is about brando finding out Batman's secret identity. Brando wounds up discovering the bat entrance, and finding out Batman's secret identity and Robin's too. The criminal got Robin tied up, as he holds him in his grasp. He threatens Batman he'd murder Robin if he tries anything. Batman punches him senseless. He wounds up stumbling into a jack in a box, which is in the bat cave. It sprays him in the face, poisoning him. Robin wants to leave him for dead, so they can still continue in their work, but Batman refuse not to help the man. Batman creates a cure and saves the man's life, as soon as the man's cured, he's ready to reveal Batman's secret identity still. Lol he finds himself by a whirlpool. Bats attacks brando, knocking him in the whirlpool. It's looks like Batman and Robin secret is safe after all. 6 out of 10

Batman #204 is about Batman informing the Commissioner that he's going undercover as a blind man, but suddenly a blind man wounds up dead, leaving Commissioner Gordon to believe that Batman has died. The Commissioner mourns the death of Batman, but let's take a step back. Batman isn't really dead. He is about to die in the crossfire, but Robin shows up to save the day. The blind operation makes it look like Batman died, however when Batman does return everyone believe he's an imposter. Batman does tries to explain to Gordon that he's not an imposter, that he's the Batman. He even supply his Detective skills in this case, although Commissioner Gordon doesn't believe him one bit, so he locks Batman up. Batman does eventually escapes after finding out Robin is in danger. At the end of the comic Batman finally proves he's Batman, with the help of Alfred and Robin. 8 out of 10.

205 is the same comic #204 Batman just proves he's not an imposter. 8 out of 10

Batman #206 is about man who claims he's the brain behind Batman's mind. That without him Batman wouldn't have solved any of theses cases. The criminal asks Gordon for a challenge of duel to prove he's the brain behind Batman. Gordon agrees to the man's terms. The criminal does in fact supply information to him before Batman could, but in the end Batman finds out the criminal tricks, and puts a stop to him. The man wounds up getting electrocuted with a bat suit on. 6 out of 10

Batman #207 Batman has to find a bomb that's located in Gotham, and It's not any bomb. It's a hugh bomb. Haha! Batman takes awhile but Batman finds the bomb in the back of a trunk, due to the bomb not having a switch or any wiring that's visible. Batman can't disarm it, but in the end he finds out the little boy got the timer in the ball the criminal gave him as a gift. 3 out of 10

Batman #208 is about all the women in Batman's life, but to be honest it's a bunch of golden age comics. 8 out of 10

Batman #209 is about Batman and Robin trying to stop a gang of thugs from robbing a bank, but the thugs wound up setting him up. They plant a device underneath the bat mobile which causes Bruce to see people as tigers and elephants, not only is this device affecting Batman's imagination, but also Commissioner Gordon's. Batman believes he's in a jungle. Batman soon finds the device, and stops the crooks for once and for all, but casper is really the mastermind behind this brilliant plan. 7 out of 10

Batman #210 is about Catwoman bringing a group of women together to become cat felines like her of course. Catwoman dresses theses women like her to help her commit a crime. Planning to steal the pricey Jewelry from nizam head, although she fails, it wound up being Alfred dressed up as him, so Catwoman is caught by Batman. The rating is 5 out of 10

Obituary

Brady, David Joseph - Well if you are reading this then I guess I am now dead, I passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2024, shortly before my 65th birthday.  Death is a part of life, my death was not unexpected, and I had a good run. Don’t feel sorry for me because I left this earth surrounded by the best wife, daughter, family, and friends anyone could ever ask for.   For those of you who thought I could never achieve that smoking hot body, you are wrong, Cremation is to take place.

     I am predeceased by my Parents Gordon and Nora (Goldsworthy) and brother Michael.  I am survived by the absolutely best wife ever, Robin, the most incredible daughter Elizabeth, sister Patricia (Jeannine & Hannah), Step-Mother Alberta, and the Teodori Step Adults Quinton (Kiran), Harrison (Kristin), Jack and Isabelle.

     I was born and raised in St. Catharines and spent seven years with General Motors Security before moving to the Hamilton Police Service where I worked for 31 years and retired as the Grumpy Old Detective in the Corner.  Policing was both the best, and the worst career I could have ever asked for.  I like to think that I made a difference.  It also gave me a collection of inspiring, loving and empathetic friends, some who literally saved my life, and many who stayed by my side during the challenging times.

     Robin and I then became caretakers of our dream on 98 acres in the incredibly beautiful township of Nipissing.  It is here that I worked part time at the Powassan Home Hardware where I distinguished myself as a the carrier of heavy things and the getter of things on the top shelf.  When ALS came to visit, we gave up our dream in Nipissing and moved to Cambridge to be closer to family, friends and health care.

      So who was I?  I was just a regular guy trying to do what was right, and as I got older I like to think I got better at that.  I was proud of my career in Policing, and of all the awards received over the years, I was most proud of the Victim Services Award for looking after my Victims of Crime.  I enjoyed my time as a Baseball Coach with the Hamilton Challenger Baseball League where my players inspired me on a weekly basis.  I was an under appreciated Master of the Pun.  In later life I started writing a blog with my ponderances on this thing we call life, I am grateful to my small group of loyal readers.  I tried my best to be a good husband to Robin, and a good father to Elizabeth and I hope that they would say that I was.  I tried to be a dependable, loyal friend, a mentor and someone who dispensed random acts of kindness.  I hope if you knew me that you would agree that sounds a little bit like me.

     A special thank you to those who made the effort to stay in touch and help out during the challenging times, you know who you are, the words don’t exist that would adequately describe how grateful we were for everything that you did.  Thank you to the ALS Clinic at Sunnybrook Hospital, and all my fellow travellers on this ALS Highway that became friends.  Special Thanks to Dr. Sandor and her Palliative Care Team who looked after me so well at the end.

     If I can share one piece of advice, Don’t keep putting things off until tomorrow, because sometimes tomorrow doesn’t come.
