Year III, Reign I of the Green Dragon

Dear Journal,

My week spent in the Drachenlands was even more intense the second time, in both experience and heat. Oh the heat... This year, Frederick and Rehland also answered the Silver Dragon's call. It felt good to have more friends in this strange world.

Rehland was appointed Vice Chancellor of Silver Camp after showing great chivalry at the Mage competition. Only he showed up, so the prize, a dragon egg, would have been his. But Rehland said no and sent for someone from each of the camps to come compete fairly. Then Rehland won anyway. Maelstrom and I crested the hill just in time to hear the judges call his name. I cheered the loudest.

The People of the Bazaar were so impressed by this that the Fighter's guild forgave their grudge on Silver Camp for failing to pay a debt last year, and offered their forces to defend the egg until it was safe behind our gates. For this feat and great showing of honor and Chivalry, Rehland was named Vice Chancellor, the Virtue of Chivalry, and the Pride of Silver. That man can't go anywhere without impressing everyone. I swear his head has grown visibly larger.

Frederick proved himself to be a formidable healer, even in this world where healing works so differently. But this would be dangerous for him in ways I didn't expect.

During Red's siege on Shadow, Silver sent healers to assist Shadow, as we were allied. Frederick and Rehland both joined the fight. But then we heard Red had been executing healers, so Silver marched into battle, met Red on the road with Shadow's flag, and returned Shadow's flag back to them. Fredrick and Rehland were not there but we heard Rehland had gone up to the Surgeons guild. So Maelstrom and I trekked up to the Surgeons guild, spoke to two surgeons who told us they had spoken to Rehland, but hadn't seen Frederick. Fearing the worst, we returned to Silver Camp and met Rehland who told us what happened.

During the siege on Shadow, fighters from Red, or possibly assassins hired by Red - the details were never confirmed - downed and executed every healer they could. Rehland was dragging the injured General of Shadow out of harm's way, and so was not there to defend Frederick. But he watched him die. Frederick had gone to Limbus.

We had this conversation in the Golden Light tent next to the Altar to the White Light, which Frederick had brought with him from our world. We wept, cursed his killer, prayed for his return. And though Rehland follows the White Light as the rest of us do, he has never been a man of prayer. But Maelstrom convinced him, just this once. For Frederick.

Just as Rehland bowed his head, out of the darkness, his white robes illuminated just slightly by moonlight, Frederick appeared in the opening of the tent. He was alive! Returned to us by the White Light and by Rehland's prayer. I looked at him in awe and Maelstrom nearly lept over me to embrace him.

One does not remember their time in Limbus, but Maelstrom, who died and returned last year says he remembers the fear. I can see it in his eyes when he speaks of it. For Frederick it's the same. They're changed in ways Rehland and I can't understand. I fear Limbus to a degree I am too ashamed to admit.

Before the battle, we had intended to go bar hopping at each camp, but after the day's events we all felt too weary to go anywhere, (especially because we had been accosted and robbed by orc bandits outside of Blue camp the night before, which meant we'd have to lug our weapons from camp to camp if we went out), so we decided to spend the night quietly at The Refuge, Silver's bar. A fitting name, given the circumstances.

In happier news, I met the Green Avatar. She saw my fangs and seemed very excited to meet me. I admit I was quite awed by her eminence. She kept saying she was sorry I had answered her brother's call, and I could only look on dumbly. If I am ever called on by both Silver and Green I don't know what I'll do.

I learned more about the herbs that grow in the Drachenlands, and was happy to see that I was not the only Herbalist in Silver Camp this year, lifting a huge weight off my shoulders, as I feel very out of my depth here. At home, I know the plants, and I feel the spirits in nature. Here they are unfamiliar and the magic flowing through them is strange and off-putting. Put a weapon in my hands and the muscle memory will lead me to victory even in a new world with slightly different physics. But a trowel?I'm a lost infant. It's humiliating.

Bluehands of the Alchemist Guild remembered my name, which warmed my heart. I had to reintroduce myself to nearly everyone else. But not Bluehands. I met Hawthorne, who I hope to see in the years to come. She will surpass me easily. With her help, Zephyr's, Chancellor Yvaine's, and the many donations of plants from other members of Silver Camp, we had a beautiful Alchemy garden. So beautiful that we not only won Most Improved, but second overall in the garden competition. Next year we will win an egg for Silver. I feel it. I want it.

Oh! Did I mention Silver won the Drachenfest?

initially received as a sample from Sephora, i am in 🔥💖 w this scent.

it’s woody (obvi) and therefore reads as masc off the top but it’s creamy & coconuty & clean/fresh which is a concoction i would never have thought of.

immediate perfection: masc on the top, yet the more you get to know her she’s gentle & femme (like me) 🖤🤍.

performance is decent—she’s no MFK’s Amyris Femme, but this lingers for a few hours.

assumed my partner would have perceived this bb as too masc but he’s into it (which maybe I should’ve guessed because his preferred fragrance is Replica’s Jazz Club??).

scent of the day: amyris femme (maison francis kurkdjian)

starts as an unqualifiable lemon floral, very feminine and clean, almost like micellar water or toner, with a luminous touch of iris and violet, and something else that smells rounded and balsamic which i assume is the amyris (new note to my nose). it's really hard to pick any of these notes individually, though: the lemon blossom lays hazily over everything and blurs the contours of the scent into seamlessness.

amyris femme smells classic, yet somehow unlike other fragrances: it is airy, very pretty, well-crafted - almost too well-crafted. this is a perfume for people who don't like perfume and who wish they could just smell abstractly good. (unless they don't enjoy lemon, in which case, avoid.) it gets progressively less unique as the top notes evaporate, though. the musk base is fairly generic for something that costs 175€ a pop, and i don't really enjoy it compared to the floaty top notes. it's all a little too prim and vague for me.
